7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I felt that she was very open and communicated very effectively. She was always willing to answer questions we had and was very approachable for help. She gave a good amount of homework and I liked her teaching styles.
This course taught me valuable lessons about cultures and multicultural education and how to overcome biases.
openness and honesty
I recognized my biases and found ways of getting rid of them. It is going to be a long process but the main thing is that I know that I have them.
self-learning
... it fulfilled a requirement
The group presentations.
Professor Xu Di was always available to meet if I ever needed help in the class.
Collaborating with my classmates helped me to learn a lot because I was able to listen in on different views and opinions about different topics. The class environment made me feel safe to express any opinions and thoughts and I really enjoyed the format of this class.
I learned a lot about myself and how to interact correctly amongst other people. By addressing my biases, I have learned to be more accepting of people. I have also learned to look at people without any judgments when I do not know them. I also enjoyed how we were able to teach the class, that was a unique experience that will help me in my professional career.
This course has been one of the most beneficial to me. Xu Di has made such a positive impact on my life and my educational career. I will never forget her, and I will highly recommend her to anyone.
Your mind is broadened beyond the book's knowledge, but allows each individual to overcome biases they've had and grow in heart for others rather than one-self. Dr. Xu Di also motivating for students to be creative for their group class presentations.
What i loved and respected most about Dr. Xu Di's teaching was her way to let and encourage everyone to be open about their bias's and judgements towards other races/people.
She was extremely helpful
I really liked how Di Di cared so much about her students. She's a great model as a professor and I hope to someday be just as knowledgable and helpful to my students.
getting to know the students and the professor helped me to learn and grow. also to understand the course content,
The most valuable thing I learned from this course is that cultural relativism is a great way to understand someone else's culture. I also liked how we got to work in groups and do fun activities.
Pondering about culture, bias, and taking actions in our daily lives.
The most valuable thing about this course is the self-discovery that I have found throughout this course. I realized a few things about myself (such as biases and stereotypes) that I did not realize that I had prior to taking this course. I think that the knowledge from the other students and especially from the professor is something that I will take with me throughout my career and my future in becoming a teacher.
I truly enjoyed each and every class. I learned a lot about myself which is something very different from any other class. I think that is what I enjoyed the most aside from learning life skills on how to become a better person with less biases.
Working together and learning about each other.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
The only thing I had a hard time with was understand what was due and when.
Everything in this course was very valuable to me.
it is only once a week :(
I thought the quizzes were a little pointless. I just hope none of my quiz scores brought down my grade.
There wasn't really anything I didn't like about this class or found invaluable. Everything I learned thus far has really opened my eyes to new perspectives on certain issues. I loved working on the group projects in the class, but it did take a lot of time to prepare for them.
I thought that the quizes did not fully test us on our knowledge of the chapter. Some of the questions were things that I was not able to remember completely, even though I read the chapters all the way through and took notes.
none
Dr Xu Di;s teaching strategies and her open mindedness. she does a fabuous job of making the children comfortable in her classroom setting and encourages you to share how you are feeling/your opinions...
nothing
The course wasn't very hard, the work was just a little tedious but manageable which I liked, I didn't really dislike anything about the class.
Some of the assignments I feel were not necessary
Almost nothing.
The only thing that I struggled with in this course was finding parking before class. It has made me tardy a few times, and I thought it was very difficult to find parking.
Absolutely nothing
Nothing.

14. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She is a great teacher and I learned a lot from this class. She was always well prepared and excited to teach. She came to class with a good attitude and always used our time wisely.
She is an excellent teacher and great at what she teaches. She cares for her students and is available and very flexible with everything.
excellent!
I really loved her as my teacher. I thought she was the perfect multicultural teacher because she herself was different from us and had her points of views to add to our class discussions. She was a fair and honest teacher.
Excellent.
She is a great teacher and a very fun person.
Excellant professor! I've never had a professor like her and I hope I will get to be in more of her classes! Di Di really took learning to a completely different level for me and I loved it. No other teacher made me evaluate myself as much as I did in this class, but I'm really thankful we did. I learned so much about myself as well as the content being covered in class.
She is a very hard working teacher who puts her students first. I felt very welcomed and comfortable in her classroom setting. I also appreciated that she was flexible with my schedule and was allowed me to make up some classes that I missed due to personal reasons.
She is awesome. I couldn't ask for a better professor. She puts smiles on all of our faces and helps us when we need it. I can't write enough about what an asset she is to all of us.
She is very open-minded and big on love for her students and flexible with students and shows no signs of favoritism. Her witty attitude is awakening and creates an environment for self-discovery.
amazzzing
I would strongly recommend her to anyone who has to take the courses that she instructs because she's very helpful and understanding and helps me to better understand the material rather than just sitting in a boring lecture.
Very inspirational and knowledgeable professor and makes class fun and enjoyable to all students.
She is a great teacher.
I loved having her as my teacher, and she is the epitome of the type of teacher that I would like to become in the future. She was very engaging, and shared a lot of her knowledge as well as her wisdom with us, and taught us that we must become the type of individual that we'd like to teach our students to be. She taught me great things about life, health and love that I did not learn in any of my other classes. She is an amazing teacher and a wise individual, and I admire her love and devotion for education.
She is a fantastic professor and I loved being in her class. You can tell that she is so passionate about multicultural education and striving to be the best person you can be to not only yourself but others. She radiates goodness and I hope to be in another class of hers again. I will miss this class because I was able to meet a lot of new people.
Amazing professor, encouraged us to do better for ourselves.

19. My overall evaluation of this course is...
This course was fun because I met a lot of new people because of the group work. This class taught me about diversity and it also opened my eyes to new things. This is a good class for education majors to take because it is very helpful and resourceful.
I enjoyed it very much and gained a lot of knowledge and will prepare me for my future career.
excellent
It was bomb! I enjoyed going to it every Thursday!
Good.
not sure it is the most valuable thing that the college could require but its also not too hard just long.
It was great and I hope to have Xu Di again in my next EDEF course.
Awesome!
I really enjoyed this class I would recommend it to other people most definitely.
Although this class was required, I would recommend it to anyone. What she taught us goes beyond the classroom.
Super interesting!
great overall learning environment...
awaesome!
This course was probably my favorite out of all the courses this semester and I hope to learn more from Di in the near future.
Very interesting course
Super good!
I enjoyed this course, and feel that I have gained a lot from the material that we have covered in class. I feel that I got to know some of my classmates on a deeper level, and have made discoveries about myself as well. It opened my eyes to the essence of multiple cultures, and the importance of accommodating multiculturalism into the classroom setting.
This course was very informative and interesting. Everything she had us do made me think complexly and step out of my comfort zone. She gave us all the "push" that is necessary towards improvement.
One of my favorite classes.
20. Other comments:
This class made me think outside the box. I felt knowledge depth was very important, both about content and ourselves. Instead of just lecturing and taking test I got to interact with Di Di and my classmates with I loved. I ended up meeting really awesome people in class and it's something I don't experience in a lot of my other classes. I really appreciate the time and effort our professor has put into this class!!!!!
I loved this class. I hope to have another class with her again.
great teacher.
I'll miss this class spirit!
I would recommend this class to my peers, because the knowledge that I have gained will stay with me forever.

7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Challenged my intuitive capabilities
Philosophy was a tough course, because it encouraged my to 'alter' my view point for the greater benefit of 'teacher learner ' experience, but through this process DiDi always supported strengths and celebrated those with the class sometimes by actually reading excerpts from each student's papers--this was a wonderful experience, because it made me/work feel valued. DiDi accepted that student voice added value to the discussions, and often asked us to extend our initial thoughts so everyone could participate (including her) in a meaningful way, and this process also helped us to get to know our other classmates beyond the 'superficial' level--I think this was an important process and created meaning for me about 'Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students" (Freire, 1999, p. 72) This course has helped me to really think (looking into my self) and build my own philosophy (we come from plural identities, we must be open wide to the human landscape ---Maxine Greene) that will help to transform my life and practice. Thank you!
Xu di always gave me so much detailed, knowledgeable, technical, academic comments to my works. She gave positive and negative comments/feedback at a time, and so I've never discouraged. Also, she gave me second chances to my assignments, that helped me to re-think of assignments deeply and critically.
Rooted in our individual and collective lives, our foray into educational philosophy held meaning beyond the walls of Wist Hall. Unlike other courses, Di Di allowed our personal philosophies to become a part of the fabric of our curriculum. This approach makes her style unique and the effects tremendous. In this course, we lived.
The flexibility with which Xu Di allowed in meeting each student's needs. The material was highly applicable to te education field and life in general. The small class comprised of students with diverse cultural backgrounds allowed each student full participation to share a deeper, richer flow of knowledge and expanded learning opportunities.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
N/A
Can't think of any!
The class size was fairly small. Most of the time, I was helped by the small class size, and could voice out in the active discussion. (Because I sometimes feel a great hesitation to intervene the discussion, especially in the big class) But sometimes, I wanted more varied opinions from bigger number of students. For me, around 10 students in a class is ideal.
The student-led presentations were valuable experience particularly as presenters. However sometimes the philosophical concepts were more difficult to understand through the lens of another. I suppose this means that I had a certain notion of how I would receive the information. I did learn but I also found myself wondering if I was really gathering the essence. For myself, I was concerned about presenting a philosophy because I did not feel like I really understood the formal tenets. I labored over making sure I was presenting "the essentials" to my classmates, even though I wasn't 100% sure what those essentials were exactly.
The artificial unsustainable environment (lights and ac) detracts from the learning experience.

14. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Extremely knowledgeable and very inspiring
DiDi was an amazing professor, who really considered and valued her students--her standards were high, but was extremely flexible. She was always willing to consider alternate view points and really encouraged students to think deeply and critically about personal philosophies. DiDi always celebrated everyone's learnings as a group--this was a wonderful positive experience for everyone, I'm sure. An A+ for DiDi I also want to thank and acknowledge Dr. Lum who sat in during our classes--She was a warm wonderful professor with so much knowledge who was always ready and willing to support student learning/success.
Overall evaluation of Xu di was scored the highest. Her profound consideration and generosity to students were very impressive.
I hope my next professor shares an enthusiasm for realistic life-learning!
She is a experienced professor who is passionate in conveying the course material while allowing us to expand into our on areas of interest.

Challenging yet essential for a holistic perspective to develop
A+
Overall evaluation of the course was also the highest. I really enjoyed the class and challenged lots of assignments/works that some of them questioned me the hardest through my life.
that it is valuable for future teachers, professors, and leaders to understand what their own philosophies are before they enter the realm of Education.
beneficial to the graduate studies and will serve me well into the future.
20. Other comments:
Recommended for researchers-to-be
This point was discussed in class, however, I will mention it here as well--We thought it would be a great idea to include philosophies from other cultures to add more value to the course. UHM is an institution with a diverse group of students, therefore, it would be more meaningful to look at other cultural thoughts, and not just the Anglo-American and Euro centric thought (although it is extremely important to study those early philosophers as well). I think studying other cultural philosophers will bring greater closeness/respect and understanding about diversity and the value of multicultural education.
In the middle of the course, her father became seriously sick, but she always smiled to us. I was impressed by her strength and great humanity. Not only as an instructor, but a human, I respect her.
As we discussed in the class, an international perspective would be valuable as well.
For Question 16 I answered neutral mainly due to the information in the texts are available in many other books carried by the library. If each student was responsible to locate the course material from a variety of sources, a richer flow of sharing would occur. Students are already investing large amounts of money in tuition fees, thus cutting the costs of obtaining the course materials by other means is highly beneficial. As for Question 18 I answered "agree", however, grading should be done by the students through self assessment. When investing the amount of money that we are, the student is more knowledgeable as to how the experience increased our level of learning.

7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I liked the activities she made us do in class.
This professor is truly the kindest and most knowledgeable. She was extremely flexible and she alwAys tries to assist her students in any way possible.
Didi was very enthusiastic about the content she was teaching and provided neumerous ways to get help in the class.
Group discussions were very informative and opened my eyes to new ideas and opinions.
The different philosophies of education.
I thought that the papers were extremely helpful not only in improving writing and communication skills, but also that it forced me to reflect upon my learning and how I was going to make it applicable.
I feel the aspect that was most valuable and helpful about the course was how Di Di conducted her classroom; she led by example. She showed us what a great educator does and how to treat your students well. She communicated with us well and I never felt like I was out of the loop or in a bind. She was very understanding and truly cared about each students success. Her instruction focused on what we are doing now that will prepare us to be great educators. This is a question that has never been posed to me and the answers we discovered throughout the semester will be valuable to my career as an educator.
How she runs her class is great
different techniques like philosophies that we can use in our classrooms as future teachers
I found everything in this course helpful and valuable. I did not think that I would learn as much as I did, which is good. I found writing papers instead of doing homework assignments very good because there are many things that people think are more important than other things. I think it was good that we got to express our own opinion in what we thought was important. I also thought that doing the group presentations was good, because it gave us a glimpse of what teachers actually do when they teach a class.
Everything:0) Everything that was taught and discussed in this class could and can not only be utilized towards my future in educating children but also could be applied to my own personal life. Aside from the basic criteria explained and talked about involving the book information, Di Di also taught us to look beyond what is and work towards something better.
Di Di was very helpful the information given was quite an eye opener
Dr. Di used alot of discussion of ideas in the class. We had to think about "why" and how the things we were discussing would effect us as teachers and what we could do now to address it. We were able to get many good ideas from other members of the class, things we didn't think about or had considered before.
Throughout this course, we really got to understand and create our own definition of education, and create our own philosophy as well. To me, that is very important, because from those two things, it will help us, as future teachers, to build our foundation of how and why we're teaching.
That we were given an opportunity to teach valuable course curriculum to the class.
Everything - good course and discussion based
Everything I learn in this course I can relate to my teaching. Professor Di really makes sure that what we're learning is connected to how we will teach in the future, and how we will conduct our classrooms.
The way that Xu Di incorporated each student into every class activity and every class session. It built a strong bond that I have never seen in any other class.
Students were involved in the teaching.
Our class discussion and when we did group work.
The most valuable aspect of this class was the overall structure. I learned a lot about the many different aspects of the class-room, and that there are many ways to teach. I also learned a lot about how different each student, class-room, teacher, school...can be.
The discussions during class were interesting and extremely helpful, especially because we got to hear our classmates' points of view.
I was able to begin my study of education on a right foot. I was able to learn the necessary foundations to understand and learn the principles of American education.
She is genuine and really cares about her student. She is very flexible and will work with her students. Thankyou Xu Di. Aloha
I liked how this course is discussion based. It helped me to think on my feet and to work on my verbal communication skills. For the amount of speaking we do, I feel that this course should fulfill the Oral Communicaiton credit.
It was a great class because it addressed many different aspects of education that sometimes get over looked.
Professor Xu Di incorporated a lot of class discussions into the lessons. I found this very helpful because it allowed me to hear and share class concepts with the other students. The discussions helped me take the information read from the text and relate it more to my own personal experiences and future goals.
CLASS DISCUSSION. definitely. Sometimes a professor will ask a question and I don't feel like I have a response, but if another student responds the class begins bouncing ideas around and I feel like I can contribute, and I definitely learn more this way.
I really enjoyed the way Dr. Di brought across the information to us. Epitomizes a great example on how we future teachers should be.
The fact that we taught each other with support from the instructor.
I have learned that how important education is. How education effects in society and family. As we are in the future of teacher,Xu Di made us to think, What can we do in this class.
Group presentation that help students to master the subject of their teaching and then master the skills needed to teach their topic to the class.
I found the discussions in class to be helpful in learning the material. I also enjoyed the feedback on the essays that I wrote and from our fellow peers so I could improve my paper. I also liked the teaching project where we learned the lessons from our peers. From this we could see the variety of different strategies use to teach the material. Everyone helped each other, it was an awesome learning environment.
the openness and positive feedback from Didi was really nice and refreshing :)
she is a wonderful teacher that was very positive about everything.
I found so many things very valuable in this course. I learned a lot about what I want when I am a teacher and also about the the education world and how we as educators are the change. She was always so helpful and encouraging too. I always enjoyed going to her class and knowing that I was apart of something special was great. She taught a lot about the educational problems to open our eyes to the world around us so that we can fight for what we think is right and what every deserves....equal opportunity to a great education so that our country will succeed. She's a terrific teacher:)
Professor Xu Di was amazing, thanks to her I had experience what a difference makes having an instructor that has passion for her class.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
The class was too early in the morning.
Nothing.
The teaching we had to do was a great experience when you are the one teaching because it shows you how difficult it is to be the one running class. However, I felt it was unfair to the class when the teaching wasn't prepared or delivered very effectively because we didnt really get the information.
I found that only meeting once a week was least valuable! We had such an important topic to focus on that we could have definitely met twice a week.
That is only met once a week

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Everything was and is important.
nothing everything was great.
The group chapter presentations sometimes were unclear, because of the group may have been unprepared.
-
I found that sometimes the work can be too much, and since it's only one day out of the week, I mostly forget about the subject matter.
The authors of the book are often quite biased and very opinionated, but state their opinions as facts. The book gets the necessary information across, but incorporates too many opinions.
the point distribution was a little different and hard to get used to.
There was no aspect of this course that I found to be non-valuable.
N/A- Everything was helpful.
It was sad to say that our class was only once a week. I wish our class was at least twice a week. I believe that if we had classes twice a week, it would improve the classroom.
Although I enjoyed our class discussions, sometimes I felt lost and didn't know what we were talking about.
I had a really hard time reading the book, therefore it made the readings difficult. But then again it was heavy information.
n/a
sometimes hard to get in touch with professor
I do not think there is anything negative in her class. She was very warm and open to the everybody.
There is very little that I found the least bit helpful. Everything was well organized with everything having a beneficial purpose and plan.
Most of it was helpful.
N/A. everything was helpful
the classroom was cold
Nothing was least valuable everything was great:)

14. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
I really liked her. Not only was she very knowledgeable in her subject but she really did care about her students. She would also go out of her way to help a student out if they were sick or just needed someone to talk to.
20 out of 10.
She is a wonderful teacher, one of the best I've had since attending UH.
Great professor who genuinely cares about her students and is dedicated to enriching her students' minds.
a 10!!!
DiDi is a great professor. She challenged us to be the teachers we wanted to be while we were still students. She provoked great class discussion and involvement.
great. She is honestly the greatest educator I have had the opportunity to learn alongside. She not only stresses what is important for us to know, but she demonstrates it actively. She encourages us all to speak up and share ideas.
She the kind of teacher that I aspire to be.
she is a wonderful teacher. very friendly and always there to help us. i love that she has us participate in class so much; it broadens out knowledge of the subjects we are learning
She is a very good professor and I would definitely recommend her to other students that are going into the education field.
Awesome, fantastic, enthusiastic teacher. She loves her job and loves teaching others the knowledge and life learning experiences she has obtained. Wonderful personality. Gave life and happiness to the class. I would recommend her to anyone needing or wanting to take this course. Give her a raise!:0)
Awesome, Excellent, Superb, need i say more?
She is an excellent teacher. She requires work but is understanding about students and their many classes. I learned alot and had the opportunity to teach which helped us to learn that part of the subject even more.
Didi was a great teacher, and very helpful. Her class was always very uplifting and there was so much positive energy that flowed through the class. Her office hours were always opened and Didi was always open to have us make up work. She was a very helpful professor and I really appreciated her as an educator.
She is an excellent professor. She is easy to understand and communicates her expectations very well. I also appreciate her positive attitude. It was joy to attend her class.
Great professor - will definitely recomment
She is an excellent professor, who is dedicated to her work and her time to educating the youth. She is also very enthusiastic and understanding towards her students, while at the same time being professional and knowing how to handle the classroom.
She was always extremely well prepared and excited for each class. She brought an unmatched level of enthusiasm and desire to teach to every class. One of the most helpful professors I have ever had.
Great, supportive, understanding wonderful teacher!
Related very well to her students. She got to the core of the subject that she was teaching. Very fair in grading and made sure that we learned what we needed to learn.
Professor Di was a very influential and effective teacher. Her enthusiasm and love for the subject was evident in each class, and her love for teaching was inspiring.
She's a great instructor. She's enthusiastic, caring, and knowledgeable. I really felt like I learned a lot from her and she was very understanding and accommodating to her students' needs.
Professor Xu Di is very knowledgeable of her subject and she is willing to do everything in her power to help her students to understand the class material. I appreciate and value her positive criticism in my papers and participation in class. She has encouraged me to do better in my studies through education. She treats us all equally which is a key characteristic to have an effective teacher.
Excellent professor. She treats us like people and is always there to help us. She does what is in the best interests of us. If I could, I would take another course from Professor Di.
Great! She was very nice and always brought an energy to class to get us going. She was also always up for new ideas and allowed us to think on our own.
She was the most engaging teacher I have had during my college experience, and she always kept the lessons interesting. She related well with the students, and that made the class very rewarding.
awesome, loved the helpfulness toward student success. put more emphasis on learning material than the grade, sometimes I found myself not even thinking about my grade...like when I was writing papers even, I felt so into the subject while I was writing that I didn't stop to worry that I might not get an A. Would DEFINITELY take another class from DiDi
She is an amazing teacher, very kind-hearted, always in communication with us students. Never wants us to fail.
Amazing professor! I have never been so happy to come to a class! I learned a lot and appreciated her understanding ways. I was happy to do the homework she assigned and appreciated the class discussions it stimulated.
She lead us to put our step into the great teaching world. She is good role model. You are so great!
A charismatic teacher that encourages to help broaden our understanding of our views on teaching.
A exceptional professor who encourages and provokes deep thinking and provides a wonderful learning environment for everyone. She is a wonderful person who makes you feel welcomed and you want to learn more from her. It was an awesome opportunity to be able to take a class from her.
a really good teacher who pushes students to speak up and be engaged in class.
i wish she taught more classes but she is my rolemodel for a teacher!
Great, Awesome, Enthusiastic. She was just a great teacher and class overall. I am going to miss this class very much.
She is the best teacher I had at UH

19. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I really liked this class. Mostly because DiDi is a awesome teacher!
I learned alot and enjoyed the activities and discussions in class.
Opened my mind new thoughts and ideas and changed my perspective of education for the better
8!!!
I am glad I took it, I feel that I have furthered myself in this journey to become an educator.
The course is a very helpful class in that it prepares us to think deeper about education and the aspects that affect education.
Fun and very interesting
the course material was uniteresting at times but i guess it is important to know. the professor was excellent though!
Good course
Very educational. Revealed to me what education is truly about and why it is the way it is today. Encouraged me to look at the world from perspectives different from my own and to think critically, exercising the knowledge I had gained.
Very good the experience and atmosphere of the class was fun
This was an excellent course that made us think about many aspects of education that we had never considered before. We learned there is so much more than just the schools and students.
It was a great class, and I have already recommended Didi to other classmates. The semester went by really fast, but I feel as if I have soaked up so much information. I also feel that I have also grown so much into mentally becoming an educator. All of the problems we have learned about in the history of education really makes me want to start changing the world, be we have to only by one classroom at a time, starting with our own.
Great overview of American Education and the history of American Education.
Good basic info course for future teachers.
It may be a hard course, but it is needed for education majors. The information you learn in this course is very valuable, I cannot say anything more than that.
It was a great class that met and surpassed all of the desired objectives I had for it.
Very beneficial!
I have to say that the course was a bit boring because of all the info but with a great professor it was not as bad.
I am glad that this course was "required" for me to take, I learned so much and had a lot of fun doing it!
Great course! Learned a lot.
American education has overall given me the courage to pursue the rest of my education degree more confidently. After taking American education, I just can't wait to learn more from my future education classes to help me become the best teacher that I can be in the future.
Execellent teacher and attitude.
Excellent course. I learned so much.
It was a good course and Im glad it was a 'have to take' class because I really did learn from it. Hopefully we will have more courses similar to this one once we are in the COE.
Excellent!
Loved it, wish it was longer/more often!
I enjoyed this class. made great friends, learned material that could be used in the future.
Great course! Don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much without Professor Di though!
Most in her class, we had many discussions about what we think of education. It really helped to develope value of education actually.
A wonderful class that help to motivate students to really enjoy and have a passion for teaching like never before.
I loved it the best learning experience I ever had :)
a good course but very packed
Great course and I encourage everyone to take it with DiDi. I learned so much and I grew so much from what I learned.
Very nice class

Thank You!
:)
Finally had a teacher who changed me and made me love learning! Great job Didi! I'm going to miss you, but hopefully I'll be lucky enough to have another class with you!
Great part was feedback of paper. I have learned other student's ideas and thinking. So I was able to write better paper.
thank you for a good semester!
i've never had a teacher that motivated me so much before
Super Awesome:)

She was very into all her lectures, she bonded very well with the class, and she gave us great examples. :)
the teacher! she's amazing.
I liked that our class was really small and that we were able to ask Xu Di any questions that we had. Also, because of the size of the class, we were able to adjust the schedule when things got hectic.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
Nothing at all.
I think that the best possible way to learn about multicultural education is to see it in action. We were not able to go into classrooms and observe that in this class. That's the only thing that I think would have improved this course.

7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The course was very organized so that students were aware of what was expected of them. If there was any confusion the professor was available to clarify.
I thought that the way she ran the class was really good. She created a learning environment that throughout my college career I have never experienced before. Everyone in the class learned from each other and really gained from that.
The fact that a lot of grup work was incorporated into the classroom and also the material learned. By working together, we learned through each other.
The concepts learined within this class
I think one of the most helpful things was having interaction in the class. This couse involves many ideas and opinions and having interations allows us to see everyones opinions and experiences in education
I think just having all of our class discussion was very helpful.
i thought that she did a great job of opening our minds and allowing us to think about things outside the box and in a different perspective.
I liked the class bonding that happened in this course, and I enjoyed that Xu Di was very practical in terms of the work load for this class.
The information and relationships
Very helpful instructor.
I found that i am more aware of things happening in a classroom. That we need to be well aware of what is happening to our kids. Also not to judge a book by their cover.
I really liked the group work and working in groups in class for classwork...it really helps getting everyones opinions and ideas and we can learn from each other...
She is very flexibe and she works with you to help you if there are any difficulties. Very good teacher, understanding but yet still makes sure goals are accomplished.
This class helped me develop my educational philosophy and that will benefit me in my years of teaching. It helped me build my confidence in my teaching abilities and knowledge.
I found the teaching method very inspiring and will use some of these techniques
i thought that the way we interacted in the class was very helpful to success in the class.
Prof. Xu was very well-spoken, even with her accent, and thus I was able to learn very effectively. She initiated very thoughtful discussions and kept us engaged all the time. Our class was also very cooperative and had little trouble working with one another.
The group discussions about each section helped a lot during the course of the semester. The Q and A's at the beginning of the class helped to grasp the basic information of the section.
Professor Di has to ability to encourage her students. She is a very inspirational professor.
I enjoyed the student teaching session. It was a good challenge that works well in a college setting not sure if can be translated into a secondary ed.
Having us teach.
everyone teaching and not just straight lecture from the teacher. different things every class so it was interesting
Every class included group discussions whether it was with a partner, in small groups or as a whole class. Getting insights from peers and learning about each others different perspectives made easier to understand each aspect of the course.
I found the philosophies of education most valuable because I never knew what it was until this course. Also that was helpful to learn because I realized that if I want to become a teacher; every teacher has to know his or her own philosophy.
I loved how engaging and fun her class was :)
The one hour teaching assignment.
It was a very informative class. It help me grow as a person and future educator.
I think the group work was the most helpful. It really got me out of my normal shyness and i got to chance to share my ideas.
Applied Knowledge.
This course really made up my mind to go into the field of education. I learned a lot more about what it takes to become and teacher and methods that I can use in my classroom.
she has vast knowledge of subject and methodology which creates a great learning environment. here exercises and workshops helps to build knowledge by layers which helps student to learn.
The things that we learned in this class will be helpful in my future teaching career
This class taught me a lot of different perspectives of education. It helped me to understand what sociology, history, and philosophy was.
I enjoyed the group presentations and the group work that was hands on and artistic.
I loved this and all my education courses because they all dealt with a subject i have considered very important.
I really enjoyed the variety of presentations and methods to the learning. I also appreciated the way she was available and willing to work with everyone to make a good class experience. She was very open, understanding, and helpful. I really enjoyed that everyone had a teaching session so we could experience a variety of ways to learn and get to know everyone in the class.
I found very helpful of the course is the teacher being there whenever we need her. I also found the information very useful and got me more ready to teach.
I found all the material I was taught in this class valuable and helpful. This class really provided me with the tools and skills I need as a future teacher to be able to communicate with my students effectively and properly.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
Nothing. Every part of it was useful. Everyone's ideas and opinions counted.
the teachers attemp to set up a relationship with the students. It came off as intrusive.
I think we would have had less quizzes. We ended up discussing and participating in class to show we knew the subject.
i thought that i didn't do a good job of keeping up with my work so sometimes i felt behind and not able to participate with the class.
Sometimes class discussion seemed a little reductive. I wish we had more time to delve into the topics.
The book was BORING.
Sometimes we had a difficulty understanding.
nothing really. Everything had importance
i thought everything was helpful...:)
We did team teaching activities and while those were beneficial in their own ways, I would have liked to be taught by someone with more knowledge on the subject than a student in the class.
There is nothing that comes to mind
most of the thing in this class was very useful
We did group presentations, but I felt that our Prof. should have been a little more involved in their preparations. At times, the presentations were either disorganized or unoriginal, which made learning the material harder.
Nothing.
I think having to form a mock cariculm might have been more helpful than some papers.
Nothing.
grading scale 72% is an F when regular grading scale it is a C
That is was only one day a week, for about 2 and half hours.
Nothing. Everything we learned was valuable. Sometimes things we learned was hard to grasp, however Didi did a good job helping us to understand.
quizes
The gazillion papers.
Some of lectures were a little long where I needed to be able to get up and walk around for a second.
Nothing all lessons were valuable and applied to my teaching career in a meaningful way.
There wasn't anything that I didn't find unhelpful. I really enjoyed this class. I wish this class was more than once a week. It was a lot of information to take in for one day, but that's not really something the teacher can fix. Also, our class was added on last, and I wasn't able to pick up the book on time, but again, that isn't something that was our teachers fault
everything was relavent and knowledgeable
n/a
I did not like the beginning lectures
nothing
Everything was helpful. There was nothing I couldn't use in my career.

14. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor Xu Di is the best professor I have ever had here at UH. She truly believes in education and cares for each of her students. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and her methods of teaching. Students not only learned from her, but also from each other through group discussions and interesting lessons. In this way, students were actively involved in their own learning. I hope to use these same techniques when I become a teacher.
She is a GREAT teacher. I would highly recommend this class for anyone who has ambitions of becoming a teacher.
she is a great professor. She comes to class ready to teach and is very friendly and knowledgeable of the subjects taught.
Very good teacher.
She is very knowledgeable in the subject of edu in american society. She also is good at facilitaing participation and she makes us think and find ourselves and what roles we wantt to play in education.
Di Di helped make this class interesting. She really took the time to make sure I was doing good in the class. She made me feel like I could go to her and talk to her about anything. I always felt like she was willing to help me. (:
she is a great teacher and she is very insightful and knowledgeable. i would take one of her classes again for sure!
She is an excellent member of the University of Hawaii's Education Psychology department, and I am happy to have met her.

she was enthusiastic and positive about her topic. I really liked her as a person.
She is grest and I will recommend this class to anyone
she was really great, i will definitely suggest this class to other people and if i could i would take her other classes if needed.
She is an excellent professor who far exceeded all of my expectations. I especially appreciated her public speaking abilities, a skill that seems sparse in today's teacher population.
one of the best professors i had at UH manoa so far.
Excellent professor!
Di does a great job of connecting with students. She allows for growth in more ways than just lectures and test.
She is a very good teacher.

She is a great teacher with a variety of different teaching styles. Very forgivable for late assignments. Originality is key to your lessons
I enjoyed her class and would suggest taking her class to anyone else. I felt like I got a greater understanding of the topic.
she is very helpful and cares for each student.
I strongly agree that Xu Di knew her material and effectively communicated the material to all her students. I was able to easily understand the material and her question and answers, readings, and discussions were very helpful and proved to be very useful. I would definitely recommend her to others.

19. My overall evaluation of this course is...
The course was excellent. I learned about the foundations of education, developed my own educational philosophy, and was able to learn from my peers.
that this class was interesting.. The teacher and activities make it worth while.
Very good course.
This course is very good. It covers many subjects and information I was not aware about.
Coming into this course, I didn't think I would find this class interesting. However, Di Di made this class interesting.
GOOD COURSE!!!
It was great! Paper grading, though, was sometimes a little harsh--I wish we had spent more time in class on APA. I use MLA for everything, so this sometimes annoyed me.
=)
Not that exciting of a class. But with the group that we got to be in it was a very interesting experience to go through together.
great class.
an awesome class and i've learned a lot of things to help me become a better teacher.
good
It is an extremely valuable course for anyone who is going into education. It is necessary. I thought it was going to focus more on education today.
I am so glad I took this course with Didi. A worth while course
very great, i made lot of new friends and had a very good experienced.
I learned quite a bit in such a short time. I was able to further my critical thinking skills and knowledge of the material.
One of the best courses i had so far.
Good class to take. I definitely learned new concepts!
Not what I thought it was going to be, but turned out to be way better.
Very good course. But the part about history was a bit boring. The book was biased and a little outdated in the information.
it is a good class i guess it depends on the teacher. professor Di did a good job using a student teaching method, helped me out alot. fun class
Great!
interesting, a bit challenging, but very informative.
it was very informative and awesome
EXCELLENT!
A 10 out of 10
This class was really good, I enjoyed it very much

good! I think this class has helped me to view education with an open mind. I shouldn't just think of the students but also other things such as the society.
very informative
Very good. Loved how the class is self instructed
I enjoyed this class very much and felt that I grew in my understanding of my future profession.
i will tell people to take her course
this course really was beneficial for me because it helped me as a future teacher see how I can relate to my students and properly teach them.
20. Other comments:
The only thing that I didn't like was her grading scale. I felt that it was a little to tough. Other than that I truly enjoyed this class.
:)
:)
Thank you for making this class fun and interesting. I have learned a lot! (:
I enjoyed this course a lot!
=)
None. :]
I grew close to our class. I thought that the cloud activity was very productive.
it was very nice experience, everything was great in this class
Continue to do what you're doing!
change the grading scale. i felt it was very unfair because a 72% is a C in majority of other class grading scales.
None.
EDEF 310 was informative and helpful.
I would strongly suggest this class to a peer.
:) loooved it
Thank you for a a great class Di Di!
this class was very helpful and very beneficial for me. i thoroughly enjoyed this class and am happy it was required.

7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
the teacher was very helpful.
This course gave me amazing insight of myself. I have learned empathy, compassion, understanding of other cultures
I was able to discover who I am. And to recognize that I needed to get to know myself.
She allowed her students to learn from eachother. With her assistance I was able to learn more than i ever did in a class. I was able to really look at myself and reflect on the many aspects as a future teacher and educator. She was the best proffesor I've ever had.
importantness of multicultural education these are many things which we have to consider carefully i did not jnow about them before i took this class
I really liked the student presentations because they were informative yet focused on issues students now really are interested in.
She related everything to real life situations. I love how she gives us a chance to teach the class in a fun and related way. This is very helpful especially since we all want to be teachers :)
learned a lot about myself and multicultural education
i really enjoyed the class and loved all the activities we did. this was one of the classes that i liked coming to & found important and reletive
She taught me to look at myself and understand why I have preconceived biases and how to overcome or change my perception of others. This is extremly helpful As a future educator.
the student presentations
I really liked the student lead discussions and classes. They helped in both learning about/from my peers, as well as how to plan a class/activity. It also helped that Dr. Di was readily available for counsel as well as guidance/help in the assignments she gave.
We practiced our own communication skills by doing working sessions with our classmates. We also learned to be more aware of our cultural biases.
I believe we were able see how Myself and Other people are effecting each other in the worlds. It have helped us to look at ourselves in different view and it was very useful.
I learned who I am in this class. Also, the most imortant learning for me was understanding my biases. i learned the important things that teachers should know in this class.
That Didi created a safe environment where we felt comfortable speaking our minds and being open to our classmates about controversial topics. She was so encouraging and helpful.
The teaching opportunities.
The class activities, readings and assignments helped me to better understand myself and become a better human being and teacher!
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
nothing
There is nothing that was invaluable
Some of the presentations seemed repetitive and were not really effective. Also I did not like the lack of respect some of the class members disrespected the classroom and the learning process.
n/a
nothing
Everything was really valuable
Nothing really. Just the fact that it was from 430 to 7 it's a little late and I'm a little less energized.
nothing everything was valuable and helpful
none
Nothing! This class was a challenge and the best one I have done thus far.
I did not find all the journals helpful, nor the extra "homeworks" particularly relevant. For instance, the assignment for the survey of biases, although interesting, was not particularly eye opening.
The text book have given many basic information and way to organize the class focus. But, for my knowledge, it was too basic information that I know some online journals which talks better at it.
All things I learned in this class were valuable and helpful.
Nothing, it was all valuable.
The textbook.
I thought everything was helpful...never a dull moment!

One of the best teachers ive ever had. loved the class thinking about taking it again just to learn more!!!
a wonderful and engaging teacher
Excellent teacher who truly cares about her students and their future.
she is great, patient
She is a very passionate teacher, who although being strict about what she requires and who sets the bar incredibly high, was also very understanding in the constraints and concerns of the students.
very good educator, speaks well, and covered the material that was relevant to learning about multicultural education.
I believe all of the students should have a talk with her to change the view of ourselves and others.
She was very helpful. She was one of the best teachers in my whole school life.
She was marvelous, as always. Thanks Didi!!
She is always professional and very compassionate.

I loved the connection made between myself and the material. I enjoyed her as a teacher and as a person.

I enjoyed this course immensely; not only did it open my eyes about multi-cultural education, but the professor was very understanding. She was most influential in making this course enjoyable.
Very good, we decided a fair rubric for our presentations and was give enough time to do them. And each were valuable lessons.
This was my favorite class in this semester.
It was great. If this class was not required, I would have taken it anyways as an elective!
A very important class to take.
