26. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She would use a very polite calm tone to each student There should be no concerned about Lau Kong. She is a great teacher. she would always ask if we have any questions, and if we do she answers them. She demonstrates an eagerness to teach and help her students with the subject matter in any way she can. She ultimately cares less about the course, and more about the student's success in the course. She always offers to help students who do not understand the material. always there to help She is willing to help you and answer questions after class. She's available outside of class time for questions and she's understanding and helpful, if you have to miss a class or two. She makes it easy to catch up on class work if you do have to miss time in class. Goes over material thoroughly and makes sure everyone is on the same page. She always offer help outside of class

27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

She explained the course in a easy approch and more modern thoughts She is kind, helpful, and joyful and great explain the material. she makes things easy to understand. when showing slide shows she explains whats on the slide and that's what i like. Her powerpoint slides are easy to follow and she explains each slide in more detail. Also are primary source readings are relevant to what we read in the textbook and we can relate the source to other countries or people. She gives great examples for various concepts. She makes historical events relevant by comparing them to modern-day events. Nothing to dislike. I overall enjoyed her class. Perhaps better technical equipment would be better so it can assist her with her teaching and it isn't giving her a hard time. it was interesting I enjoy her teaching methods. I like how she would sometimes put us into groups and have us share ideas on an in-class assignment...it allowed us to interact and share our thoughts and ideas. Sometimes I felt sleepy, but it was probably because it was a morning class. I liked the videos she showed us. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and interest in speech

28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

She is a fantastic teach, love her! This is the first history course that I actually understand. Not because of the material, but because the way you set up your class, the pace, the amount of material, and how well you explain, is why I understand and can follow along easily with the material. She is interested teacher too. she is a wonderful teacher. she is very caring towards her students and willing to help us with anything we need help with. She makes the subject matter interesting and challenging. She also gives very interesting homework assignments. We have to read primary sources and then reflect on them, as opposed to just doing tests. I like the fact that she enjoys telling us about history. I can tell when she speaks about certain events that she is excited to tell us, which makes me excited to know and want to know more about history. thank you Very good teacher and treats everyone equally! She has to be the happiest person on campus! I have her class at 8:30am and she has never walked into class without a smile on her face...it makes a difference on how you feel a class when you know the teacher is happy to be there. Very nice teacher, prefer her to anyone who is taking history. She knows what her material is and makes me feel confident that I am learning something. I really enjoyed her class

29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

Yes,she is a very well prepared teacher and easy to understand! Definitely Yes I would recommend Lau Kong because she not strict, will help individual when needed, and explain the material well. yes i would because she is very helpful and interested in making sure her students learn. Yes, she makes history fun and it's not a boring history class you had before. I would recommend Professor Lau Kong to anybody who wants to likes history and wants to learn more about it. I would also recommend her to people like me -- people who might have thought history a boring or dry subject -- because she makes it interesting. ABSOLUTELY!! She's awesome!! She is patient and thorough. She definitely knows what she is talking about. Yes, very good course. Yes! She is a nice teacher and knows her subject well! Yes, she is great. History can be boring, but not with her...she makes it very interesting. yes i would because she is nice and makes learning fun I would recommend her class to other students. Even if you don't like history, Lau Kong will still keep you occupied.

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Always willing to accommodate. Malia is always explaining things in detail so that we students truly grasp the lesson that she is teaching. When someone loses their worksheet or can't find something within the course reader, she never treats them like their stupid or says something like "well hurry up!" NO! she always takes the time to help them out. She is kind, funny, and is truly an amazing teacher. by sharing the subject and making it fun and very interested. She goes through the whole lecture by being specific and answering students questions. Yes, she is caring and generously shows great concern for all her students. Sheʻs helpful, kind, polite, teaches well, lets us use cheat sheets for exams which helps us a lot, while there is a lot of material to know, memorize and learn. Sheʻs also thoughtful in many ways and understanding to the students. Be never missing a class. She offers her office hours if anyone needs help or has questions or any concern can see her She always asks her class if they are on the same page with her and makes sure she doesn't skip a question. She also allows her students to interact with one another and also share ideas with the whole class. A very reasonable teacher. I enjoyed the class alot. Malia helped in any way she could. I love history and cant wait to take another class from her. She would show concern by taking time to ask if anyone when had questions periodically throughout lectures to be sure that everyone was understanding and following along and she always stayed after class so that students come go to her for extra help or if they had any individual questions. She always offered help to all the students and made us feel welcomed. She is so nice and really cares for each person Whenever someone made a small comment about the subject, she didn't just say "oh well that's dumb." she took it as it is and actually encouraged us to ask questions if we wanted to. If you needed help on anything like getting your papers back, you could always see her after class or in her office. She's very approachable teacher. She takes time to help them to understand. Malia is always willing to listen to students - whether it is during a class lecture or before/after class. She is always willing to help students and encourages them to do well.

27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

She makes material interesting. Explains things where you can understand. The worksheets helps to prepare us for the lecture in class. Exams are on material that we covered (no surprises!)VERY friendly, approachable and knows her stuff well. I love how Malia greets everyone as soon as they walk into the room. She always has a smile on her face and is super helpful. She is serious when needed, but can also make us laugh during her lessons. I really enjoy her class and am hoping to take another next semester. There was nothing that I did not dislike about her and the way she teaches her class. I like her class because she puts effort into teaching the students and therefore she has a good class. Her personality is so bubbly and fun, it makes you want to interact and listen to her in class. I like her style of teaching and the way she goes about things about the subject. She's not afraid to tell the truth. She makes learning fun and always likes to have a good laugh I liked it good class. I liked how she was so enthusiastic everyday even though our class was in the afternoon. She always kept me awake in class. I especially like that she made her course easy to follow and understand and she would always explain things from the textbook in a way that everyone could get and remember. She tries to help every student achieve the highest grade possible. I like her Sing song voice I like the small group activities she does for us, it makes history interesting and not boring and also that most of your assignments were in our course reader, which made it SO EASY to do our homework instead of worksheets. That way everything is more organized then before. Her class is good because she emphasizes things where you just cannot fail her exams I love how she uses sources and as a class we overview it on the overhead. Everything we do.. we do together! Malia gave us many chances to get into groups and discuss many issues (giving us the chance to interact and see different view points from our peers).

28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

She enthusiasm helps me to wanna learn more and understand. Malia is bright and warm. She really does care for the students and is always thinking about how she can make things easier, better, and quicker for us students. She is definitely one of the best teacher I had the privilege of learning from...in my life time. She explains everything so vibrately interesting. She is very nice and professional. Great Teacher and cares about everyone in the class. I would recommend other student to take her class. Time for a pay raise. I enjoyed having her as a teacher and looks forward to taking a class of her's again She is a great teacher and would not take a history class from anyone else. I think she was overall a fun teacher and a sweet lady. I really enjoyed being in her class. Keep doing what your doing!! she knows all current issues She's nice and is really passionate about what she does. She looks like she cares about her job and not like she doesn't want to be here like some teachers. She's such a great teacher but wished she taught more history classes Malia is very bubbly! She is always in a good mood. She is always positive and lights up the room. You can really tell that she loves teaching and her students.

29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

Yes, one of the best teachers at Windward! I would recommend her to EVERYONE! SHES SO AWESOME! Yes, because sheʻs fun and funny and she really puts a lot into her class and the subject yes because she is more specific to the students compared to other instructors. Yes, she makes history interesting with a variety of group exercises to get students interested. Yes, like I had said earlier. Sheʻs a good instructor. Yes, because she is organized and informative. Yes because she is a great teacher to learn from. Yes great i can't wait to take 151 Yes, I would because she was a great teacher and actually Upward Bound at WCC told me to take her class. Absolutely. I never usually cared for history as a course but her teaching style made it easy and fun to understand and I enjoyed taking her class. Yes i would because she cares if you just do your part. yes She keeps it fun Yes, because she tries to make history fun and doesn't try to lecture forever. Also tries to relate the history now to what happened in the past. Yes because she's really great. She CARES I would and have recommended Malia to other students. My reasons are because she teaches a subject that appears to be boring, but makes it interests. She grasps the students' attention and keeps things going. She is very knowledgable when it comes to the material. She is also easy to approach and always happy to hear from students.

Great Teacher and feel totally comfortable around her and to ask her questions. :) Iʻve leaned a lot from her in her history class. Keep her around. favorite teacher this semester, very fun. I would just like to say that malia is a great history professor. She loves her subject. she has made second guess my educational goals by making me want to major in history. I am terriable at writting she is not my english teacher but she taught me how to use transitional words and how to develop strong paragraphs. Nothing against my english 100 teacher but malia was better. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students. thank you malia. I have already encouraged everyone i knew that was looking for a writing intensive to take malia. thank you ms lau kong This is truly one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has excellent interpersonal skills and has interesting lectures which "paint a picture" of history in Pre-Modern European Civilization. I have recommended her history classes to everyone that wants to really learn about history but can handle excessive reading and writing as it is not just a "WI," I would say its reading intensive as well. GREAT TEACHER! Great professor, made writing our papers a lot easier and gave us different ideas in class which urged most of the students to come to class. I had lots of fun in this class and drafting your papers is KEY! I really enjoyed this class. Professor Lau Kong is a great teacher, who knows her subject and makes it interesting. 22. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She was patient and understanding to those in our class who really DID NOT deserve her patience and understanding...I found that remarkable. letting us go over it in class together and turn in assignments late. and when you have questions she gives you the most straight up answer she can and it makes it a lot easier for us especially on such a complex subject She was always eager to explain as many times as was needed in order for students to get the concepts. She also made clear that she would be free for help outside of class. By answering all our questions. She is always asking if she can help us. She would answer the questions that we would tell her and clearly answer them back with examples and ideas. She wrote a lot of suggestions on the tests she graded to help us do better on the next test. again when i was absent she allowed me to make up my work with minimal point deductions for late work and she really extended her hand to help me catch up and understand everything that i had missed She would help us understand things if we didn't get it by talking with us individually or in a small group to clear things up. Always willing to spend time with the student to "catch them up" with the rest of the class and offered extra credit opportunities as well. always asking about work and if you understand the material With her sence of humor. Laughing trying to brighten up the room. she gives those who didnt complete the assighment, time to do it and also is a really big help when it comes to test taking. She is very understanding when situations happen and you miss class. She is always willing to help if needed. Always willing to teach & make sure everyone understand it. She always listened to suggestions and ideas from students and took them into consideration. Always available for help when needed, lots of extra credit opportunities, rewards us for attending class Whenever a student was absent, she would give out all notes and handouts that were missed. she explains instructions very clearly... gives opportunities for questions and extra credit she was available after class, and during office hours. She gives all the students an A at the beginning of the semester and its up to us to keep that A. This shows alot of confidence in us from her that we are all capable of getting and A in the class and its in our hands whether or not we keep it in the end Asked us how we were doing and used our comments and concerns very well The instructor would allow time for students to exercise preparation rather than memorization. The instructor, also, would take time to talk to students and find the best ways for the student to do their best and encourages them to keep up if doing well. she made sure nobody was confused by asking. Give extra credit opportunities and offer help. As busy as she is, she has made time for each tasks and remembers each e-mails and responds to them. She also gave a lot of information about the course that made it really interesting. I wish she teaches other subjects so that i would enroll in them. Always available to answer questions and provide missed worksheets She took time to gauge our input on assignments and incorporated that input into her class. um no one comes to class with problems that anyone needs to be concerned about, so this question is dumb. i mean what am i supposed to put? has anyone ever put anything useful in this box? oh ok, i got something: one time i fell and like skinned my knee By being flexible with the date worksheets were due. This is helpful when you have other classes to worry about and deadlines. Always ready for class and extremely organized. I wish she taught other types of history because I would definitely sign up f She helps you understand and offers help after class. she takes the time to explain everything in great detail helping to uderstand the topic. anytime anyone was absent, she had the work ready. we never had to seek her out to know what we missed. she always knew exactly what she was doing. The instructor is always available in class and outside of class. I approached the instructor with news of a new addition to the family. I was a little worried that the birth of my nephew would conflict with a test. She reassured me to not worry about the test, to enjoy my first nephew and that the test can be taken at yes She made herself readily available prior to and after class. She gave us a schedule that allowed us to know in advance when worksheets were due as well as when there was an exam. If we do not understand the material she uses varities of ways to make sure we understand. Either by her own examples or she allows us the students to help those by using examples to clarify to everyone. She talks to her students to see if they understand what is going on in class. She really wants her students ti understand the subject at matter. Malia is well organized as far as class assignment,homework deadlines and exam dates and times. She makes sure every student who shows up for class understands what's going on for that session. she encourages phone calls, showing up at her office or email she encourages students to visit her before class to learn more about us as individuals By asking questions and giving through explanation, and or, alternate explainations so that the struggling student can comprehend what is going on. By displaying an outmost cheerful and student friendly personality that keeps students awake and interested even throughout the late evening class. 23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

She makes history FUN! She is excited about relating facts, adds personal touches and highlights to keep the subject matter interesting. i really DIDN'T like how much paper she used. the folder i used for her class was twice as fat as all my other folders. i just think she could conserve paper a little paper, maybe print them double sided or on half sheets. its just such a waste of paper, I enjoyed the style of teaching being that the lectures were not just "lectures" but more of class discussions in which short bits of the concept were interspersed. The fact that she made the course easy to understand. I really liked how kind she was. She taught the course well giving us examples and ideas on each chapter of the book and sometimes gave us study quiz games to prepare for exams. I liked how we had worksheets to do for every chapter we went over. The worksheets helped me get involved on the subjects being discussed in class. her energy and excitment about the subject that she was teaching. class was and is never boring She was always energetic and happy which set a good mood for the class and she always added a little bit of humor to the lessons. Sometimes her lectures would run long or not seem too interesting but she does a good job at teaching history. Malia is especially enthusiastic about the subject matter, which greatly helps in maintaining the students' interest level. i liked how the discussions involved everyone including the teacher not only the students. You're able to play ideas of from everyone. I enjoy learning history so thats a huge bias. But the fact that she really covers everything that she wants to cover for the particular section really well means alot. i like how she gives us to the last day of instruction, to turn in any missing assightments we have. i like her attitude towads her students and the teaching material. I liked the way she gave notes and discussions in class. She also shows videos, which help to understand things better. She was very good! She was very nice and friendly, which made her more approachable when help was needed. WAY TOO MANY HANDOUT PAPERS. I cringe when i think about the trees that got slaughtered so all of her classes could learn history. Make a booklet of handouts next time. That way, students folders and notebooks wont be such a mess, itll save paper. Bet I wasn't sure when the class started, but this teacher showed herself to be an excellent instructor. Malia made learning a lot of fun! The review she would do befor each test helped me a great deal. SO FRIENDLY! always upbeat and never in a bad mood. shes enthusiatic about her subject very fun, talkative, it made the learning easier. She makes learning about history interesting and enjoyable. The way she teaches and explains the subject matter to us so that we all can get involved and express our feelings on the different matters, is a very refreshing way to learn in a classroom. Very understanding I liked how the instructor was so very enthusiastic about the class, the students, and subject matter. Her enthusiasm made coming to class an especially pleasant occasion. group work was different but i liked it. it made class interesting and less boring:) She teaches us exactly whats needed on the test and she lets us use notes for them. She made class fun and she explained things clearly. Very down to earth. many times there would be interruptions or answer not pertaining to the subject and Malia would answer it adequately anyways. She has a way of not making you feel unintelligent about questions or answers Review games, Historian logs I like how she used many examples of making history relevant to today. like- the class was fun and everyone was included. + I learned stuff about things and things about stuff, and some places too! I liked everything about this course. Malia is always organized and always has a warm smile to welcome all of us. I would change anything about this course. The work load was fair and I do support the idea of using a notecard for the exams. Don't chan She made it really easy to understand the subject and explained everything well. the has so much interest in the subject and makes is exciting I liked how organized she was. She always had notes and worksheets prepared to help us better understand everything. I thought she was an excellent instructor. History is not one of my favorite subjects, but she showed so much enthusiam, it was hard not to get involved. I loved the teachers enthusiastic approach to the course. She always had a comforting smile. She always took the time to answer any questions that came regardless of how redundant they were. liked everything What i like about the instructor is her ability to make history an exciting topic and keep us wanting to learn more. She is very passionate about this subject and transends that into her classes. Professor Lau Kong created an atmosphere were I can be able to learn about history and grew to loved it. We need more teachers who are energetic and understand their material and willing to share their knowledge through motivation and inspiration NOT mono I liked how she made sure we had the appropriate materials for understanding the topic (ex: notes, handouts, etc.). I like that Malia knew her subject. she seems intensley passionate about history and teaching it to students who want to learn. Malia always comes to class with a positive disposition and tries hard to encourage her students to feel the same way. i liked how she was very energetic and got people involved in the material I liked the fact that she made it fun to come to class, as well as being informative about the subject. She would play helpful instructional games that ultimately helped all of us prepare better for the topic and exams. due to the nature of the course, and its overwhelming knowledge that must be coverted to memory, it was VERY USEFUL/HELPFUL on how this intsructor displayed her formt of quizzes and exams. It was displayed very organized and fair. The vibrant enthusiasm which made the subject matter even more interesting in each lecture she is always up beat and very happy her atitude made coming to class much easier...

She is light-hearted and passionate about her career and study subject. She is highly intelligent, available at all times, easily approachable. I am still amazed at how much I learned and truly enjoyed learning about history this semester. THANK YOU MA use less paper! other than that KEEP IT UP! don't transfer schools, i want you for my next history class. history is a super boring subject for me so i need a good teacher She is a very sincere teacher as well as a teacher that makes turns class as a chore, to class as an interesting learning experience She is awesome. She's the best teacher out of the whole school. That if i did take Hist 152 i would like Ms. Malia to be my teacher agian. Class can be oversimplified sometimes, especially if you did the homework already the assignments in class are redundant. But i my favorite history teacher ever! very nice, very very fair. easy to understand and very sociable. She gives you all the chances in the world to succeed in her class, she'll give you missed work that have and let you take tests and quizzes if you missed them. That i really enjoy the class. her way of teaching helps me, she adds excitment, and gives me a diffrent prospective on history, which I have always never understood till now. YES YES YES!! I like her so much I am continuing on with her History 152 class next semester. yes and i already have, when people ask about history i immediately drop your name. you are a good teacher. and although you hand out a lot of papers you are very thorough with your class Yes, definitely. I would recommend this instructor to others because of her excellent command in her subject matter and has a very good teaching style in matters of getting students involved in every class period.
