13. What did you like best about the course?
I liked the activities that we got to do to understand how students with a disability would feel and how they learn.
I liked how it was an online course and we could do assignments at our own pace but there was also deadlines that we had to meet every week. That helped me to make sure to turn in the work.
Patrick Sheehey was well organized. His instructions were very clear and thorough.
Professor Sheehey was always there to help us when in need, and I am able to learn from other classmate's opinions on the course.
The layout of his online course is impeccable. Iʻve taken at least 10 online courses, and I have never seen a more organized class! It was like lesson plans, and I learned a lot! This class teaches you about things that may have never crossed your mind otherwise. Professor Sheehey goes above and beyond his responsibilities because he really cares about people. Enrolling in this class was one of the best decisions Iʻve made. He is a good resource if youʻre ever in need of help.
everything was easy to understand. Also everything was laid out well and explained in a manner easy to understand.
The quizzes were helpful to understand this course
I really enjoyed everything about the course all the subjects was interesting. I learned so many great things that will really help me in the future.
Even though it was an online class, the teacher was involved and responded to every post.
The course was very manageable because we got to do the work on our own time.
The course was very consistent and reliable. The work load was not overwhelming and was generally very interesting and sometimes fun to take part in.
I like the discussions because we can discuss with our classmates our opinions.
I liked that it was online. It made it extremely convenient for me. I also liked the activities and videos because it was really eye opening. I definitely learned a lot from this course; it widened my view on Special Education.
Online classes are often difficult but I really enjoy this one. Professor Sheehey has made each quiz and forum post due weekly at the same time, and regular assignments with the due date clearly visible.
14. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I thought he did a good job so I'm not sure what suggestion I would give to improve the course
I think Professor Sheehey did a great job!
He did an excellent job for this course.
N/A. He's wonderful.
nothing
Professor Sheehey was very helpful and I don't think he needs to do anything to improve teaching this course.
Because this was an online course, I really did not have much interaction with the instructor but over he was very good in what little interaction I had with him and I think he could have had more online "video" sessions with the class just to make sure everything was going well through out the semester.
I like this course.
I think Professor Sheehey did a great job instructing this course considering it was online. We got emails almost week with updates on the status of class and the assignments.
It is extremely difficult to improve an online course, and I cannot think of a way to improve it.

I never took a online class before and I am glad that this was the class I took.
I loved this course! I know it is all information that is important for me to know before I become a teacher.

11. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Just fine
In general consistency of format, the way information in Laulima is presented would be helpful if it could be maintained in all the classes offering online courses. It does get confusing when you have new professors and there is a learning curve as to the way the lessons are formatted and information presented.
Maybe having a face to face at the beginning of the course. The face to face meetings were very beneficial and I, personally, would have loved to have one more!
12. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Very helpful and knowledgeable!
Very accommodating to questions
Great attitude and lots of experience
very helpful teacher. Always values student's opinions and work.
Doing the MAPS interview was a great learning experience. Dr. Sheehey's powerpoints were very straight forward and entertaining.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Ecological assessment project
The professor and his insight
I like how the ecological project was done throughout the semester, including the maps, gcp, and discrepancy analysis.
Small assignments helped to develop the final project.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Help should be provided to place a student with a child with disabilities or in a classroom for observation when an assignment calls for such a situation. When you are not employed in the field it is extremely difficult to have a parent sign off and find someone to work with on your own and in this class the difficulty caused me late submissions and lots of stress!
everything was great and thoroughly explained.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
None. He did a good job in preparation! =)
Everything was great about this course and the way in which it was taught. The only thing I would tweak a bit would be some of the questions on the weekly quizzes and exams were worded in an ambiguous way. I would change some of the questions on those exams.
Nothing. Keep up the great work!
He does his job very well. I felt that he was a professor who really helped my development here. I wish I could take more classes he teaches as Major I always have a relationship with his â??â??subjects bring. My advice is may he always be in good health and carry out his duties as a professor. I've learned a lot from him and it really helped me.
maybe have like a web discussion class for some weeks. Like instead of a module hose a discussion about the chapter to get more indepth about the subject
Nothing
I think Mr. Pat did an amazing job. I don't think there is a way to improve the course.
16. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Understanding that his background influenced and helped prepare him to instruct the class was good knowledge and credibility.
Professor Sheehey was very informative and he was open to discussion. He was a great teacher. His classroom and life experiences make him a very valuable teacher in the special education department.
Teaching approaches that he used so far. Having a knowledgeable professor and master the material is a rarity and his has all of this.
His response to emails and problems we were having. also his flexibility
Emails us weekly with reminders
He was extremely organized with his lessons, grading, and keeping up with the forums. I received immediate feedback, and Mr. Pat was very helpful and accommodating. He is genuinely, one of the nicest and best professors I have ever had!

23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed the class atmosphere and also the easy accessibility to all of the information needed to succeed in the course.
The weekly posts engaged the students and it was fun to have our discussions in an online forum format.
The interactive assignments that helped us understand the children we might possibly teaching
Everything but topics like facing people with disabilities who have physical problems with autism and is a topic that I enjoy.
Everything
I liked how each lesson was set up and I really enjoyed doing the homework. I could tell that Mr. Pat is an experienced professor. His assignments were very eye-opening. I learned a lot not only about the course, but about myself as well.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
For this course I think I would have enjoyed a little more interaction with the instructor or other classmates. The feedback for each posting was a nice but small contribution.
I'm more of a conventional student so I would like to see this course offered in a face-to-face situation but with that being said it was a good online experience overall.

being it was a summer class and everything was accelerated it was hard to retain the information from each chapter.

Great class! I will recommend Professor Sheehey's course to other people.
Even though this course was required and I'm not going to be a teacher this course helped me understand my little brother who has alarming disability.
He has done very well job and is a pride to be his students. Moreover, the background I come from a country that is not so fluent in English. But he demanded a lot and helped me the adaptation process. I always pray and hope the best for him.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think he should keep the course the way it is.
by asking his students about comments or feed backs about his lessons given.
N/A
I honestly cannot think of anything Professor Sheehey can improve on because he provided and encourage the students to email or see him during his office hours for any questions we may have.
N/A
He could provide better resources for some of the modules, like the videos from youtube.
Mr. Pat is a wonderful and dedicated professor. He made himself openly available to all students in a variety of media outlets. If a student needed further assistance, he always made sure to allow students to come to him with concerns or questions. To improve the teaching of this course, I think it would have been helpful if Mr. Pat encouraged students to meet outside of the online course and in person. With an online course it's easy to disengage from the community that a classroom really provides, and when we respond to one another it's difficult to connect with one another on a realistic level.
Nothing, I just wished this class was not online because I think it would have been more fun to go to this class. Although, since it was online it was convenient to do work.
Maybe have individual progress reports with each student and seeing where they are at. This could improve the student's understanding, especially if they have never taken an online course before.
Maybe just explain the whole virtual conference a little more in detail because some of us might have trouble with computers.
Everything was great.
I really like how he taught this course. this is the first online course that I took where I was able to keep up with everything. I think things need to stay exactly how they are.
It would be great if there were more videos in the modules so that students can physically see the different disabilities.
16. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Always willing to help and provides very good feedback.
The material he gave us each week was excellent and made me learn so much about students.
He is a very patience man with our class. He gives second chances to students to make up whatever assignment they miss due to work and hours that does not fit his virtual classroom.

What I felt that was most helpful was that he emailed us back VERY quickly for any questions and concerns we may have. He encouraged us to do our best and he emailed us weekly as far as the class average grades (quizzes, responses, assignments)to see where we were at. He was more than willing to meet up with any student without setting an appointment with him as soon as possible. Also, he personally made me feel more comfortable taking an online class, this being my first time and gave me an outline on what his class is going to be about before registering for his class. He was VERY much helpful overall!
I really liked the way the online course was set up, it was very easy to understand and complete the assignments.
He was very knowledgeable about the course content, and passionate about helping his students engage with the course material.
Mr. Pat's most valuable and helpful attributes are his openness to communicating honestly about the challenges of working in the SPED field and being a parent of a child with disabilities. He was extremely encouraging and supportive and would express that sentiment well although it was through Laulima only.
Communicated well with students and was willing to meet with students on campus since class was online and sent weekly emails regarding the class averages of quizzes and responses.
He sent emails out every now and then to keep the class updated of the scores and progress.
A lot of resources, always replied when contacted. Lots of first hand experience and very helpful.
I liked that he gave feedback quick and had our grades right away after we completed an assignment. I also like how he updates us every week and checks on our weekly progress. I also like that he's very understanding and open to any questions or concerns.
He is always available for his students via email and willing to help them.
I really enjoyed his lessons and the way that they were organized. It was easy to follow along with each week's lessons. The online collaborate discussions were also good, so we could have a sort of class even without meeting in person. He also did a really good job keeping everyone informed with what's going on and how the class is going in weekly emails.
I liked how he sent us out weekly email stating how we are all doing and how we can all improve.
I thought the videos were most helpful in learning about special education. It gave me a better idea of how the highlighted disabilities affected students.

23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The weekly discussion posts
I liked taking what I learned from this online course to my job as an after school care teacher. It really helped me work with my students better!
The different approach to students with disabilities.

Honestly, I really liked everything about this course. Professor Sheehey provided us with interesting and insightful movies, textbook information, and activities related to the course. Also, he gave a great amount of time to do each of our forums, quizzes, responses, and essay paper.
Peer responses, it was great to see what others had to say.
I enjoyed being able to see what each of my classmates learned from the material provided. The discussion posts really helped me to engage with the material and see various perspectives from people who come from different educational backgrounds.
I enjoyed the highly organized presentation of materials and the correspondence between the youtube videos and chapters in our textbook. The module's flashcards were a very helpful study guide, but I found that they were only good at presenting basic information and for more thorough understand reading the textbook was imperative.
The class content itself is what I liked because I was interested and with it being online it was convenient but there was limited class/instructor interaction.
I loved that it was online. SO much easier for my schedule.
I like that i could always check my score.
I really liked the discussion posts, it was a good to see everyone's opinions and it was a good way to get everyone involved. It was due at reasonable times. I also liked that we didn't have a time limit for the quizzes and we could take it as many times as we want until we were satisfied with our grades.
I liked this class because I was able to learn not only what is people with disability but also how it relate to family, school and family.
I really enjoyed the videos that were provided for certain modules. They were really applicable to the lesson for the week and provided more insight than I would have received from simply reading a book. It also made these students more understandable and relatable because we are actually seeing real students with real disabilities rather than simply reading facts about how these children are "supposed to" be like.
I liked all aspects of the course, each week was a very interesting activity.
I enjoyed watching the videos and reading the input of other student's perspectives.

The reading part especially. There was too much reading, but it was worth it in the end.

The first mandatory Collaborate session was too soon in the semester and I couldn't make it because I was already scheduled to work
Although I knew this course was online, I still didn't enjoy my lack of direct interaction with my classmates. We had to respond to each other's posts, but for some people they didn't take their posts or responses seriously leading to some dull conversations and boring interactions. I was hardly stimulated by reading their responses and replying I was a more difficult time because I was responding to insubstantial posts. I think there has to be a grading rubric, sample post, or standard for posting and responding. By the end of the semester I felt as if people were just repeating and reiterating what they were reading in posts into their own replies. There needs to be more class interactions, so you feel as if you are connecting with your classmates. I also felt as if there were a lack of creative options for alternative learners.
none.
getting graded out of 5 is frustrating because a 3/5 is a D.
Nothing
I have never been good at keeping up with online homework. Although the weekly recaps of the past week's progress help remind me to do the assignment for the current week, it was really hard for me to get my assignments in on time.
none
I didn't find the modules where we would just read text to be as informative as the ones that had us do experiments or watch videos to better understand a disability

This course has inspired me to not only major in elementary education, but special education as well!
Thank you for an awesome semester Sheehey. I hope I will take another professor that has a heart of yours that give second chances. Thank you once again for your patience with our class this semester.

I would definitely recommend other students who need to take SPED 304 to take Professor Sheehey as his/her instructor!
I haven't taken the final exam yet, so I couldn't entirely answer Question 21. But the quizzes were appropriate for the material
I think this online course could use some major restructuring. I think there can be ways to create a better classroom dynamic and student to student rapport. This class is online, but the sense of community should still try to be maintained as we will all be colleagues in the professional College of Ed. We should be encouraged to get together to discuss class materials. We should have an open forum that we can all discuss a weekly topic in chat form. We could get extra credit for putting a video together instead of doing a quiz or an exam. There are other ways to submit information and demonstrate course knowledge.
Great online teacher! definitely should take SPED 304 from him!
In all, I really enjoyed this class. I thought that it was really insightful and it helped to open my eyes to the wide variety of disabilities and how I can help these children in and outside of the classroom.
fun online class
