I really enjoyed this online class. I like her learning style online. Wish other professors would format their online learning style just like hers. It's easy and simple to follow.
Mahalo nui loa for all that you have done for. You challenged me to the core, which granted me a deep understanding of discovering the human lifespan. Dividing the workload into discussion debates, article reviews, and quizzes gave me the courage to believe this class is doable. Overall, this was the best course I had this semester. I will always be forever grateful of having a course like this. I will always remember you. Aloha Nui.
I really liked this online class overall, at first I was overwhelmed with the schedule, but the workload wasn't even that bad.
I wish due dates were Sunday at midnight instead of during the week. As a parent working full time I felt I could've used the few extra days. However, assignments were doable, felt like a little much at times for me personally but relevant.

Barbara Briscoe is a very understanding and caring professor.
Helpful and enthusiastic
Instructing an on-line class can't be easy, but Mrs. Briscoe does a great job. I found her instruction clear and concise. I enjoyed her assignments and participating in the debates. My only advice is that maybe a little more feedback or response to homework completed.

Some of her exams included material from future chapters.Online technical difficulties that arose during exams were not addressed.Regardless, Professor Briscoe is a very supportive teacher that wants everyone to succeed.Professor Briscoe was always available online or over the phone despite her busy schedule.She presented her material in a way that helped students become engrossed in topics regarding humanity/human development.
Very well organized online class and I like the readings that were given.
Professor Briscoe is an extremely fair instructor. She was patient and flexible with class assignments when resources and materials were not readily available to the students (bookstore issues). Professor Briscoe was also understanding when personal schedules and issues conflicted with scholastic deadlines. She inspires the class to do and be better in their personal as well as professional lives. You can tell that the professor wants you to excel beyond the classroom.

I loved her online course. I've taken online classes before and this course was by far my favorite class. She was so helpful and she made sure to respond back to our emails and voicemail. She treated everyone equally and paid attention to our concerns, which in amazing because she has a lot of students. She doesn't complain about us asking questions like other online professors. She's so patient and nice. More professors should be like that.
She is very helpful with helping other students with problems they might be having with any assignments that were assigned. I felt as if i was in an actually in a classroom. She gives everyone attention and constantly checks her email. I would suggest her to any of my friends that are looking to taking the family resources class.
Online communication was bad.
Overall, I believe she is one of the greatest online instructors.

Barbara is very Positive and from the start, she expressed how she wants all of us to succeed! She reminds us all the time that she is here to help.
she emails students to see if they need extra help.
If she saw there was a lack in understanding of the course expectations she encourage us to contact her through several avenues of communication.
Sent out frequent emails urging students to contact her at any time should they require any assistance with the material.
She email us and explain what needed to do for our discussion paper. She did leave her phone number for us to call her.
Either emails or phone calls, she always expressed how she wanted all of her students to pass her course, and if we needed help with anything, she was always there.

I felt the recordings were outdated and the need to send in test sheets, was more than what we should do for an online course. She was very understanding when I had to turn somethimg in late, which I really appreciated.
Online courses are fairly impersonal, as they allow for people to work on course material as their schedule permits. She was as communicative as I would imagine possible under the structural confines of an online course.
We were able to share our thoughts and response online.

32. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Asking how we all were doing every class, reading us a positive quote before the start of every class, and informing us that we can always go to her for anything and she'll provide us with help.
Briscoe was very informative and gave us additional notes in class to help widen our knowledge of information and do better on the exams.
She didn't. In my opinion, all she did was rant about her personal life. I took this class with the intention of actually learning something, and I didn't. I attended class, listened, and took notes, and still I feel cheated. In the beginning of the semester she seemed to have things well organized, and put together. However, that was not the case at all. She continued to rant about things that aren't even relevant to the course, like her personal life. She didn't even tell our class that it was cancelled, we all waited around until half hour pass the start time of the class, and still she didn't show. We even signed a attendance log in the event we get penalized for missing class.
She offered all of the possible ways to contact her outside of class. She tried to explain things as clearly as possible and answered any questions students had. She also was very understanding of situations and tried to help the students as best she could.
She always asks how we are doing.
She asked us how we were doing and maintained a positive learning atmosphere for us.
She's very sentimental
Professor Briscoe showed her concern especially around our team related debates, especially when parts of the team werenʻt showing up. She made it very evident that we could change up, if we wanted to.
She gave lots of resources and showed general interest in what a student had to say

33. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She would send important emails 5 minutes prior to class.
I liked how she knew a lot about psychology and told us about her experiences in the field. Also, the debates were good and was very interesting to hear about everyone's reaction to the topics.
I didn't like any thing about the course, except on day one when she seemed to have things put together, throughout the course everything seem to unravel for her. The academics was poor, and mainly she would go off subject and talk about things in her life that was not relevant to the course. I say this with confidence that I only had one day of psychology that i actually enjoyed. That was towards the end of the semester, and its not because it was close to ending either. It was because we seemed to stay on subject, and maybe once or twice she talked about her allergies, and the air on the Windward side. (not relevant at all)
I didn't find anything that I didn't actually like in the way that she taught. I liked the way that he was helpful, and so enthusiastic about the course material. She was always excited to see her students and that helped make a great environment.
For most of the semester everything I learned was from read the text. Not to much knowledge was learned during class time.
I liked that she related it to our lives. It made it easier to understand.
Funny but can sometimes be confusing
At times, course material didnʻt seem to be laid out or organized in a fashion that could be related to. Kinda like being all over the place. It would be better to speak on relative topics, especially those that would be tested on.
I liked that she seems to enjoy her field of study a lot. Shes very passionate. I disliked that sometimes she would not make good use of class time and tended to talk about things that somewhat related to what we were talking about but wouldn't ultimately help us pass the class. Talked about personal stories too much so that we wouldn't have time to finishing discussing the important subjects at hand.

Very bubbly, nice, understanding, and very smart! Knows what she's teaching and enjoys what she's doing.
She is very enthusiastic when teaching her students and it makes it enjoyable to listen to lectures.
My opinion is that i do believe she needs to be reevaluated as a teacher. Please keep in mind, that I am not a lazy student, or slacks off, I wholeheartedly feel as if i had been cheated out of a course in Psychology. I don't feel the need to learn about her life, allergies, trials and tribulations that has no relation to psychology at all. I also don't think that she should advertise that the average grade in her class is a "C", at the beginning of the semester.
She was very nice and helpful. I would recomend her to anyone asking about a psych class teacher.
Towards the end of the semester class got a little more informative.

She is a very friendly teacher. Professor Briscoe at times communicate things that werenʻt clear and concise. Information would change from class to class which made if difficult at times. It would be best to keep to the syllabus.

No I would not. I would, and will tell everyone that I know to do EVERYTHING possible in there power to NOT take her class. I am making this statement from a academic perspective, and yet I still believe I passed the course. So the point of view of my statement is not from an angry student who failed the course, but a student who actually wanted to gain something from this course. And I did not gain anything helpful at all from this teacher.

I hope you take into consideration of my review, because I know that I am not the only student who feels this way. Should she miss class, send an email at least. I mean really, its less than two mins. Some consideration for others would be greatly appreciated. Also when students ask a question about the guide, she should at least point us in the right direction not give us vague answers that keep us wondering what the answer is. I honestly feel as if our class was a clinical trial to her own experiment on how we would react. Overall our whole class was not thrilled, and I hope that is not the case. I felt like a lab rat that she could experiment with.

20. What did you like most about your online course experience?
All of our assignments had allowed me to grow personally and also allowed me to learn about Human Development. Her assignments are common sense, she's always respectful and nice, and only expects you to complete your work but at the same time learn from it as well. I feel that she wants her student's to succeed.
Professor Briscoe organized the assignment due dates in a predictable manner. Although the quizzes were oddly dated, due dates were in a visible area. As long as students checked the website weekly, there should have been no problems. I was worried that being online, I wouldn't be able to get a very engaged feeling of learning. However, Professor Briscoe ensured that we made contact with one another through our assignments. Learning with one another was encouraged, and looking back I now realize how much I appreciated hearing from another student. I did not have the need to communicate with Professor Briscoe, but I know that if I needed to send her correspondence, that she'd get back to me in a timely manner and without bias. I never felt that Professor Briscoe unfairly judged me or held me to a higher standard.

I liked the ease of posting my assignments.
I really enjoyed having my peers read and look over my paper. The information that they add only helped me understand my point that I was trying to get across or shade some light on the other side of the topic.
I liked how there was a set schedule for our due assignments, quizzes, and article reviews. Also how we got to interact with others through online since this is not in class kind of course. Even though we were not in class discussing about weekly debates, I still felt like I was talking to my classmates in person due to responding to everyone posts.

It did not require much effort.
The course was intellectually stimulating, but wasn't overwhelming. Being a fulltime student, the course was difficult enough to keep myself challenged to finish with a good grade, but wasn't impossible. the discussions topics were awesome!
The thing I liked most about this course is that professor was VERY organized and the assignments and reading were all ready and in order.

Discussion Debates
Professor Briscoe is so open and friendly, it made learning interesting. I really enjoyed the discussion debates because it made you think about the things you read in the textbook. The material are presented in a way so a student can apply what they just learned versus reading about something and just holding in your head. Professor also made herself available if anyone needed clarification.
I liked how it was independent and I was able to work at my own pace. I liked how there were only deadlines and we were able to submit the work whenever we wanted as long as it was before the deadline. I also liked learning about the different age groups and it helped me understand how both the body and mind work.
I liked that everything was well structured.
I liked how we had discussions and each had to communicate with someone else and reflect on their postings.

The ability to go at my own pace and also the chance to see difficult societal problems from different points of view. The arguing or providing constructive criticism is what I enjoyed most. I would like to have taken this course in person as it would have allowed for much more arguing and face time with the professor. Overall I really enjoyed this course.

The professor assigned us readings and work that were highly thought-provoking. A lot of deep seated opinions were surfaced that I never even realized I had. I enjoyed this course entirely and I recommend that it be a required course in more degrees. This course exposed me to valuable content and I am very grateful to have learned it.

briscoe is a very good teacher overall, the only bad thing is she took awhile to grade assignments. but would recommend her to anyone.
I thought it was strange how little the main text book was used for this class. The only time I used it was for the few little quizes. I was not forced to learn the material from the text so I didn't. The main part of this class focuses on her book which is used for all of the forums. They are interesting topcis but you are not forced to use any terms and things that you would think you would from the main text.
Could improve on organization as there were many mishaps with the quizzes, syllabus, due dates, which created some confusion. Overall, Professor Briscoe was very fair and helpful. I enjoyed this online course. Thank you!
I am taking this course to supplement my first semester at an accelerated nursing program on the mainland. compared to other options, this class was perfect for my schedule. the only critique i have of professor briscoe is that she took a little longer than i would have liked to grade assignments.

This class really helped me to view people especially my own family and children in a different way and i now have a better understanding of going through the life process.
I enjoyed this course. I appreciate the time Professor Briscoe took to talk with me on a personal level to make sure I understood the material. It was difficult to not have face-to-face time, but Professor Briscoe was very open to us calling her to be able ask questions that were difficult to say non-verbally.

Barbara Briscoe teaches the course fun and enjoyable. She helps me understand most of things that I needed to know by messages. The discussion board is incredible as well, we get to share our thoughts and ideas about the article book created by her. Professor Briscoe taught very well and I think she did a wonderful job. Professor Barbara Briscoe did an awesome job! I met with her 3 to 4 times in person to understand the assignment and everytime I left, I felt very good.

I think Barbara Briscoe did a very good job with this online class. Online classes can be very difficult to manage at times, but Professor Briscoe did a very good job and keeping things concise and easy to follow.
Mrs. Briscoe seemed very enthusiastic and therfore transferred that feeling to her students, kept up the momentum with daily to weekly posts on the main board with encouraging literature, good pace to the class not overwhelming stuck to syllabus, i would love to try to take a face to face class with her one day to get the full experience.
Ms.Briscoe was an accomodating teacher. She took the time to explain in details what i need to do to excel in her class. She was energetic and seems enthusiam with her teaching. She grades our posts on time which is cool. On thing i would comment though was that there was not enough interactions with classmates, one helpful way to know our classmates was reading thier post on debate since we are required to do a peer post. I was thinking that more of this in other format that will enhance student participation will create a classroom like ambiance eventhough it is an online class. Other than that i would say that FAMR 230 is definitely an important course specially those going to nursing and Ms.Briscoe is passionate in her profession.
a couple of comments. 1> I think the quizzes should be worth more. I would like to see future classes have to put a bit more effort into the text material to see a solid grade. 2> this kind of class should have an overriding topic that everyone must follow from beginning to end. A single "master question" that everyone has to read and participate in to get a solid grade for the class. for example, the final "discussion" question should encompass three of the questions used for discussion into a larger discussion and have students spend more time discussing other students answers. For example. Take the first three debates. Create a question such as. "after reviewing everyones answers for the first three topic questions, tell me how you think you might want to raise your child, or how you might do things differently if you are given the opportunity once again?" Would you spank, would you play classical music for your child? or would you want your child to be part of pre school workshop? something like that. it would involve slight modification fo topics for it to be seamless. something like this would be a good participation score guage and encourage people to read more than one or two responses.

I really enjoyed Professor Briscoe's online course. It made me see different perspectives/viewpoints of others. Although I did not take her course in a traditional classroom, I could tell that she is very passionate about teaching & cares about the outcome of her students.
The only thing I did not like about this class is when the assignments are due. I got confused because all of my online class assignments were due Friday at 11:59PM but her assignments are due 12:59PM which confused me a lot. It is stated in the syllabus but if you read the syllabus it's kind of confusing. I also would have got an A for this class but due the timing I could not turn in my work late.
I really liked the way different issues were presented in the the Human Development 230 textbook. The assignments related to the readings made me think about where I stand on these issues.
The class and assignments were relevant to the course. I really enjoyed the class and it was really interesting as it pertains highly to life itself. I loved the debates and the quizzes were fair. I felt that Barbara Briscoe is a very involved teacher and she seems to thoroughly enjoy what she does. This online class was definitely one of my favorite classes because the coursework keeps you involved in the class and keeps you interested without overwhelming you. Loved it!
