He was really diligent to teach. He cares each one of the students

Mr. Nakasone is very patient; he will explain a concept many times. He is available to students on line and in person.

His knowledge of computers, Windows and Mac...

He is a good listener and he does his best to help his students.

He is an outstanding teacher. He knows his information well and everytime I needed help on my assignments because I have a Mac and not Windows he knew just how to help me.

Engagement with his students and allows us to always ask him any questions through email, phone call and the ICS 100 chat room. Helps his students as much as he can, great teacher = good grades. Very flexible with his students, he would definitely make time for us.

He knew the subject very well.

Professor Dale is a fair and encouraging teacher. He is knowledgeable and provides an arena with thought provoking questions to practice complex thinking skills and individualism. He appreciates each student as an individual and understands the complexities of our lives. Professor Dale's teaching style and curriculm, although there are deadlines offers flexibility and a nurturing environment so that his students want to be successful.

He listens to our feedback and is fair.

Straight foward instructions

It seems like he knew things about the course. Knows how to communicate to certain students over the chat room, meaning like I could tell which students were his favorites because of the way he responds to them. Very enthusiastically and the students he dislikes he gives off sarcasm.

i would like to receive my grades on assignments in a more timely manner so i am able to better calculate my overall grade.

I have no suggestions to improve any aspect of Professor Dale's teaching technique or environment.

I suggest that Dale would have made the chat room credit be not mandatory for the beginning of the semester. Like have students be able to chat with the whole class rather than just him because it would be more convenient. Also I think it would be better if Dale could make the re take on assignment be allowed to resubmit the assignments by the end of the semester. I mean the policy should be the same but just have students have the option to be allowed to resubmit the assignment by the end of the semester. It would also be better if he could extend chat room hours instead of just 3 hours every week.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

He was at online chat every regular time and he answered all our questions.

If a student was having difficulty with an assignment, he would say, "Call me right now," and he gave his mobile phone number.

He makes sure to answer the students questions and help them understand the assignments...

He emailed you if you missed anything in the class, he also encouraged you to ask questions during chat time which was three times a week.

He always showed up on chat laulima to help the students that had questions or any doubts on an assignment.

Willing to meet up with students on campus or outside of school if homework/questions needed hands on demonstration.

dale is always very helpful during chat hours and is very willing to help students on a face-to-face basis even though this is an online class.

Keeps students engaged throughout

Professor Dale was very attentive, especially to those students that did not speak english as a 1st language or had not used the computer often.

As a teacher, Dale is excellent at explaining the subject specifically to whatever the next test covers and connecting the topics. He is also fantastic at communicating with students either right after classes or through email or Laulima, replying almost immediately. Both of these two strengths played well during the summer because the time limit to learn everything most students learn during the spring or fall semester was shortened drastically.

Sense of humor and patience with students that had different level of skill and understanding of computers and software.

Funny, Helpful, always available for questions, patient, knew the material well.

On time and helpfully to fix student problem with his class

Knew his subject very well and is willing to make time for his students outside of class.

Dale takes a genuine interest in all of his students, he takes time to get to know everyone and is always willing to help any student in need.

Dale seemed like a flawless teacher. I would make no improvement suggestions.

No changes and to keep up with the great teaching and look forward to maybe taking a class with this instructor again.

Some assignments, such as doing the Excel 2010 training twice per chapter, seemed unnecessary.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

He actively sought out students who needed assistance and would stay after class to help.

He would stop and help you immediately during class and if you still did not understand, he would meet you after class.

Dale was outstanding at showing concern for all of his students. Everyday he stayed after class in the computer room next-door and answered any of their questions. He gave several students (with or with out DSSO needs,) extensions on their test times because they showed their struggle or asked explaining their misunderstanding.

The instructor made himself available after class for students who were having difficulty with the class and also emailed we were absent what we needed to do if the assignment was not clear online or in the syllabus.

Always available for questions, showed a considerable amount of patience for repetitive questioning and mistakes.

After he finish class he still going to the computer lab and waiting for student asking any problem with any problem

He made time time for chat hours 3 x a week and requires at least one visit from student per week.

Chat rooms.

Continuously sent us reminders to complete our assignments and exams by the due date and made it mandatory to chat with him in the chatroom weekly in order to make sure we were doing well in the course.

Making himself available for meetings on campus besides on line activities.

I was having problems accessing certain tests online and he took the time to meet with me to go over it with me. I work fulltime and often struggle making it to office hours and he worked around my schedule to make a special time to meet. He even had me bring in my laptop so he could take look at it and try to fix it for me so that I would be able to access the tests like I was supposed to be able to. He makes all the students attend a chatroom once a week so that he will be able to communicate with us and help us work out difficulties.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes, hey is a very good teacher.

Yes, because I learned a lot from Professor Dale.

I would definitely recommend Dale Nakasone to other students. He explains the topic and makes sure that each student understands it with clarity.

Yes because his class is very useful and his teaching style is very good. His patience and acceptance of students from all difference cultures and language barriers. As a korean-american student from out-of-state and veteran he made me very welcome and helped with me with class assignments. I also saw the instructor very patience with students whom didn't speak english very well or grasp the lectures he presented and made sure the students understood what was being explained.

When I was taking some of the exams like power point or access it seemed like a lot of the material in the book was not covered and was really difficult to find when taking an exam.

Please make the content more friendly towards foreign students. The English you use is difficult to follow unless you are a native speaker. Also, it would be nice if we could to the MyItLab in class? I felt overwhelmed with all of the tests, they took an hour for each, rather than the expected 20-30 minutes.

Try to have more time doing ITLabs, or maybe a practice test or two on each section in class. I know it's hard because of the schedule and the syllabus having us doing something every day, but it will help the students who're struggling.

Mr. Nakasone would make an announcement before or during the class if there was a quiz or exam will be coming up. Also, he would discuss on certain areas of the subject before the exam to make sure the students would understand because it might be on the exam.

I would to students who understand and speak good English. But it's way too hard for foreign students. Computers are a whole new language in themselves, but to top it off with a professor who lectures the whole time, might be a lost cause for many of our foreign students. Dale needs to figure out a way to reach out and create a better/easier understanding of his material to all of his students.

Yes. If they want to learn the basics of Microsoft Office, then Dale is good to take. However, if they want to keep their skills learned in class they would have to use it often, otherwise simple things will be forgotten.

Mr. Nakasone is very good teacher, but I'd like to say some comments about the course. There sometimes have problems to see all words correctly for Office exams on Laulima, and there sometimes have wrong answers, too. I hope they are improved perfectly. I hope there are enough time to cover Technology in Action textbook, too. In class, he teaches Office, so it was hard to do all exams, which we had to do by our own.

I recognize this course is as more practical in academic way. Myitlab is helping how to use MS office, however, I feel that Laulima exam for those MS office doesn't help much. it's just wasting time. I don't think we don't need to know line name or function name. We want to learn how to use, functions, easy way to use.

This course is a Windows centered course. Ok, Office is fine, but Office also works on the Macintosh. Also, MyITLab only supports IE which is a poor choice. This should be communicated to Pearson or another course should be selected where you can use other mainstream browsers.

Knew the subject very well.

He was available during his office hours/via email. He was proactive with all the tests and assignments. Was very enthusic about the class.

Mr. Nakasone had lots of background knowledge of the subject matter we were studying. He was an effective communicator, and had a fun sense of humor as well! This made the class really enjoyable :). He was punctual, and always answered any questions we had.Many teachers dont respond to students (ive had my share of them -_-) and it was frustrating because you want to try your best, but if they aren't there to guide you or answer your questions, it makes it difficult. Mr. Nakasone was great about this, and I never encountered this problem with him.

He's really good about getting back to your emails.Good at explaining what needs to be done and when assignments are due.

It is obvious that he knows a lot about the subject and he gave the online students opportunities to do well on their assignments.

The wording on some of the assignments were difficult to understand

I don't suggest any changes aside from maybe being a bit more explanatory when it comes to the assignments. Sometimes it can get a little confusing because i took what he said so literal, and come to find out, it meant a completely different thing. hehe~ but that's about it.

The instructions for the assignments were very confusing and it was difficult to sometimes interpret what he meant. I think it is because he knows about the subject so some things are more obvious to him but for those that know not much it was a little confusing.

He replied to emails right away.

He would e-mail them and let them know of their current standing. He would help them out if they needed help. If a student e-mailed him, asking him tons of questions, he would call them personally and answer their questions via phone call. He was very helpful! And his instructions for assignments were very clear.

He did check ups wiht ones that were falling behind, he did a good job notifying students about what to do and when to do it by.

Allowed resubmission of assignments, pointing out corrections and where to look to in order to resubmit for better grade.

He answered all of our questions, and he always took the time to email us if we were slacking to see if we were okay.I remember i missed a few of my assignments, and I was so stressed with work and financial issues, and i opened up my inbox one day and he asked if i was okay. that meant the whole world to me, just that simple gesture, to see that wow, he actually cares about his students. He's a great teacher, but also a great person. :)

He gets back to you in a timely manner if you need help with anything orneed to know something.

i loved that i was able to test out of ICS100 at the beginning of the semester. it really helped me out an made the rest of my load more bearable.

Yes, and I have already because he is very nice and understanding about homework assignments and tests. The class seemed interesting and the instructor was interested in it as well.

Absolutely. He's a great teacher, and i would reccomend him, hands down, without a doubt to anyone. The class is informative, fun, enjoyable, and challenging enough to keep you interested!

Specificially for this class, waiting until two weeks left in the semester to have the final project explained is unreasonable. This is not a 400 level course, and the load of the final project did not meet the amount of time provided.
