She is the BEST teacher that I have ever had in my college experience! I didn't enjoy the animations since it didn't really help me for tests.
Nothing.
She should lecture more in class and focus on the material because it is hard to know what she wants to know on the tests.
None
Don't teach hybrid courses. It is more fun to be sitting in class and listen to her inside the classroom. More information learned that way
nothing much if any thing she made the adjustments a long time ago.
It would just be to fix the online lecture videos so that there arent so many pauses and they are more straight forward

Less required course delivery methods, redundancy is not for everyone.
I suggest that the assignments online to be changed to midnight because some students such as myself work past 10 p.m. and will miss out on points.
Nothing really too bad her class was so much independent
no changes
Make the quizzes worth more points. I also didn't get much out of the wileyplus animations.
Perhaps more time on helping students understand how to study the material better. For example, it would have helped me if she had given me certain ideas about how to memorize and learn the subject material, i.e. like using flashcards, as a random example.
There is not really anything I think needs changing.
Maybe a more thorough study guide?
I would suggest that they change the fall semester and let Ms. Patz teach Zool 142 :)
Have the exam questions more clear
I wish it wasn't a hybrid course.
Nothing, she's a great teacher and makes a difficult subject easier to understand.

I like how she explained everything even if we don't meet the usual 2 times a week. Through her online presentations, I was able to understand her lessons clearly.
Amy Patz has good energy which makes the environment conducive to learning. I enjoyed the in class and recorded lectures because I felt that she was passionate about what she was talking about.
Awesome teacher. Her hybrid method is a something new to me but very effective.
she's very knowledgeable about the course being taught.
Knowing materials and being open minded and never letting people feel non-intelligent.
Mrs. Patz knows the topic she teaches very well. She trys to make her lecture class fun to teach.
She brings a great attitude to the class very energetic. Extremely accessible outside of class especially holding study sessions.
Amy Patz's major strengths were that she was a nice teacher who is caring and very likable. She is also an organized teacher which is also a plus. Her emails were replied promptly and they were usually very helpful and clear.
Always available! Knows the subject very well.
Amy Patz major strengths is in her knowledge of the material but also the dedication and time she gives and makes for her students. She is one of the few teachers i have come across throughout my college career where she puts so much time and great effort on getting her students the help they need to not only learn and digest the material but also to make it interesting than oppose to the traditional way of learning. You can see what i mean in her assignments, there are many ways in learning the subject and so much ways of getting extra credit, and the fact that some of those assignments she would have to go over individually/personally with over 40+ students and still able to make time to provide off class online study session, be able to communicate quickly, and always willing to listen and take time to address concerns of her students. She is a great teacher and i cant express it enough how great she is. Overall, her dedication, passion, knowledge, and personality, makes her a great teacher!!
All around, Professor Patz is a professional, well organized, concerned, and respectable professor. The course material was always presented to us in a timely and accessible manner.
Well organized, very enthusiastic about the subject
she is a great teacher and amazing in helping.
Everything she did. She had outside class information like power points, live chats for studying, the lecture notebook that was extremely helpful, in class stop and thinks, the discussions we had were straight to the point and there was never time wasted.
She is very clear, enthusiastic, and is good at explaining complex things.
The energy she puts into the online lectures, in class encouragement of participation, and involving our interest in topics when preparing for tests
Her strengths as a teacher is flexibility and listening when students need help.
Her strengths are that she explains the material very well and put it in ways you can understand.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
N/a
none.
I would suggest that we would mainly stick to class discussions instead of PBL cases in class because it takes a lot of time away fro our learning.
NA
More points on assignments and quizes would be helpful for students to learn more because it's worth more.
don't use the blackboard online lectures program, it is helpful but i don't like the program, wileyplus worked best for me. if you forget to post something, either cancel it or just do it for bonus points.
I do not suggest any changes.
The only change I would like is maybe to give out a sample of the exam. I remember doing this in one of my classes. It would help a student to keep on practicing.
The testing days being consistent with lecture days did not work well for me. I did not feel as prepared for the next lecture if I took the test in the morning before class.
would be nice if she can curve examination grades especially if the whole class failed an exam;)
No more tricky questions. Less exams if possible. I felt as if this was 2 classes put together.
Maybe have more class days, instead of one class per week.
Because we only met once a week for a little over an hour maybe summarize key points over each chapter especially if they are going to be on the exams.
The changes I would suggest to Amy Patz is to probably make deadlines a little later and make animations worth more points. The animation activities were actually not much help so maybe consider doing something different with or getting rid of it. There are some times where there are different due dates for things which confuses up things with other classes, like a quiz due Monday Wednesday Friday, and the next week just Wednesday.
NONE
Nothing, Stay the way she is. She is a great teacher!!!
There is a lot of material to cover and because majority of our grades count towards our tests, maybe less work load in terms of pre-lecture quizzes and case studies so that we can better focus on material.
Nothing, this class was very easy to follow along because of how Mrs. Patz presented it. She has a lot of extra work like quizzes and animations that really help with studying.
Too many assignments and due dates. Assignments should be due during the week and not on weekends (animations).
Just more class time
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She emails you if she knows you're having a difficult time and she wants to arrange for meetings to better you.
she was readily availible and she held also online study sessions through blackboard which made her more accessible.
I felt that she took the time to learn our names and would speak to us about our exam and homework grades to see if we needed help studying or improving our grades.
She makes sure students are paying attention by doing stop and thinks. Responds to email quickly.
Many exam study sessions, available to answer questions
she was easy to get in contact with if we needed help. she helped students when they had problems. if they missed the test deadline, she would allow them to still take it but at a different time.
She showed concerns by giving extra credit to students.
By answering e-mails as soon as she can even though I know she has a busy schedule. She is also able to answer questions that we may have in our mind before we even ask.
Amy promptly answered my emails whenever I had any issue. She changed due dates when she felt we needed it and she also did online study sessions - which were a great asset to have.
she took time out of her busy schedule to go over and ask questions prior to exam
Study sessions and e-mails.
She reminds us if some assignments are due through e-mail.
Amy Patz showed concern for students by providing us with feedback on our exams and offered us one on one sessions going over our exams. She also showed concern by offering us study sessions out of her own time to help students prepare for the exams. I like how she asked students for a preferred time for the sessions, and also she wanted the students who weren't able to participate in the study sessions before give her a time they wanted so they could attend.
She was able to voice out any problem or mistake to everyone in class or through email, and if students had concerns she would go above and beyond to address any concerns students may have either in class, through email, or in her office. If their where any discrepancies on certain information or material she would immediately address it through her students so that misinformation wouldn't happened.
She always gets back to her students via email, in class, during office hours, even outside of class.
willing to be flexible with individual students who could not take test at previously planned times due to.
She would always email you back within the same day. She made time for us during office hours, and would talk to us during class if we needed help she would explain it until we understood.
She provided study review days before the exams and would encourage students to attend office hours.
email notification, the frequent updates on laulima, seeing us outside of class, holding study sessions
She took the time to help the students review for the exams.
She always emails our class about important information.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. I enjoyed learning the materials presented by prof. Patz and the way they were presented. I also enjoyed working in groups.
yes, she is a very knowledgeable and fair teacher who truly cares for her student's learning and well- being. Very understanding of situations we, as college student might have during the semester.
Yes, Very nice teacher who understands the human body.
Yes, she is great at presenting the material in a practical manner and thorough when addressing student questions and concerns.
Yes, because she is a good teacher and knows her subject very well.
Yes, it is almost impossible to not find one method of learning that you can do well with in this class.
yes! she was one of my favorite professors! i wish she would teach 142! :]
I would recommend professor Patz to students because she provides a good learning environment and a lot of help just to make the course better to understand.
Yes. Because her online lectures can definitely help a student memorize and understand the lessons with accuracy and great speed.
yes, she is very easy going and friendly. I enjoyed her method of teaching.
Very much yes.
Yes, she is a knowledgeable professor. Has a new born child, but still manages her students professionally.
Yes
Yes, but maybe not in the hybrid format because the workload and is excessive with having to do online assignment, blackboard audio lessons, online power points was too much.
Yes I would recommend Amy Patz to students because she really cared for the learning of her students. It's just that you need to learn most of the things on your own and relate them in your own ways especially in the hybrid class. I would also recommend her because she provides lecture notes and study sessions which really help on exams, the biggest portion of our grade.
YESS!! i would its alot of work, and time but its worth learning the material, like a, live, eat, breath a&p kind of thing especially if your going into any medical field from healthcare, PT, EMT, RC, nursing, its better to be immersed in it and be able to apply it to your life so that it will come naturally once your actually in a program, nursing school or already in the field. i know other professors out there that teach the same subject and you basically dont learn anything, its just a download a study guide, come to class and hear me say the answers then take it. If dont want to learn anything take that and suffer later on. BUT if your really wanna be prepared, want to learn the subject/material and really serious about a&p, but also to enjoy it, and actually have a way to feel like in the field where you actually have case studies to address illnesses of certain patients and what not then this is the class for you! TRUST ME!! TAKE THIS CLASSS!!, TEACHER IS GREAT, AWESOME AND THE SUBJECT COULDN'T GET ANY BETTR, WELL WORTH THE SEMESTER, FIRST YEAR STUDENTS I RECOMMEND YOU TAKING THIS CLASS, AS IT WILL PREPARE YOU FOR NOT ONLY 142, BUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE IN THE FUTURE IN THE HEALTH FIELD.
I would recommend professor Patz because she really helps her students learn and retain her course material.
Yes. She keeps the class interesting, gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
DEFINITELY. She is the best professor I have ever had the opportunity to have me in class. She is awesome and teaches this material so well and is always there when you need help.
Maybe. Her courseload is much more intense than the other professors'.
Yes she not only knows her material her presence while teaching is welcoming to a learning student who may be overwhelmed by the material
Yes, she is understanding and flexible. She goes out of her way to meet the students needs. She even agreed to doing an online study session for the students who can't make it on campus for the regular study session.
Yes, I would recommend her because she cares about our learning and she is a great instructor.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is very easy going, yet she'll get her point across.
She was a great teacher and her hy-brid class made learning more accessible and efficient.
She has a great smile!
Good job.
She is very versatile at teaching which makes a her a good professor.
We can go through a lot of many parts of a chapter in just a matter of an hour and fifteen minutes with her brief but clear teachings.
overall, she's a great teacher..
She is great.
I would like to say that the quizzes were annoying to do but the extra credit points it provides really helps with my grade. I would like you to also maybe go over the lecture notes and study topics to help with your students studying. The narrated powerpoints were not really enjoyable yet it was helpful. The lecture notes definitely are helpful.
Mrs. Patz, thanks for a great semester!, thanks for all the support, encouragement, and extra effort you given to not only me but every individual student you had, you go above and beyond what you do as a teacher, to not only make sure that your students get the material, and be able to apply it to there lives but you also provide fundamentals in your lectures and material to not only make learning fun, but also to make students enjoy and love the field that they will soon get in too. It is great to have you as a teacher!!
She always projected a willingness to teach her students despite how many of us there are. She is very well organized and provides materials to her students that are easily accessible to us. She makes her students feel like they are learning in a professional environment and always had a positive attitude. Even though the course had a heavy workload because she is a great professor it encouraged her students to challenge themselves by completing that work load.
Teach ZOOL 142!!! :)
I thought the online lecture powerpoints were the most helpful resource for the class.
Thank You!
She is awesome!
18. Other comments:
NA
I like the "stop and think" questions, because they make me think for myself and confirm that I retained whatever was just covered. I learn well with prelecture quizzes, animations, and PBL's, but least with online lectures/quizzes because it is hard to keep focused on long lectures after a long day at work or school. It may just be my preference. Maybe other people learn just as well with online lectures.
Thank you for a great semester.
course is hard but mrs. amy patz is very helpful...
Thank you for the valuable knowledge.
This class was not one of my favorites but still I needed the credit. The material content were sometimes overwhelming and hard to understand. But in the end it is taught by a professor who cares. Thank you for the knowledge you have shared and given to me.
Awesome teacher! Thank you SO much!!!
Keep up the great work!

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
There's not much to change.
None
I wish questions weren't so tricky and that we only focused on what was going to be on the exams. Not everything in general and figure out what will be on the exams.
None
Class is fine as it is
Nothing comes to mind
None
N/A
I suggest that Professor Patz to promote student interactions as well. In every lab, students should have different group members.
More time on brain models
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She allowed for students to visit her during her office hours to discuss anything about exams that were just taken to further explain the subject to them.
She invited me to her later lab class to make up for a missed class. I know not every teacher would do that.
She helps us with questions we have.
E-mails and fast response times.
Always askes if anything is confusing and explains until students understands.
During lab, she always walked around to see if we have any questions. She always always mentioned her office hours and if we ever needed help she's there.
She has hours open to go over with us grades and exam questions
Some of the questions that came up from time to time were sort of silly but she really took the time to answer everyone's questions and explain thoroughly without judgement.
She would be available during her office hours if there were any questions about anything concerning an assignment or exam.
She was available for questions during office hours and after class. Helpful with clarifying questions on course content.
She constantly asked if we had any questions or needed help.
She always makes time to help students inside and outside of class in a way that makes you feel more confident about the material. SHe is the reason why I am doing so well.
She actually sent me a powerpoint from her lecture class to help me study when i asked for some outside help. She always answers emails promply and is available to help study outside of office hours as well.
Professor Patz checks every group how they are doing often during labs. She also tells us always ask questions whenever we have questions.
Helps us at the parts of the model we dont know.
She e-mails her students about the time you take your test and what is due.

Thank you. It was fun in the class.
She is friendly and easy going. Very approachable and doesn't show anger or any negative feelings toward anyone despite what they may do. I am glad she was my first instructor for zoology.
Good job
I had fun in lab! I hope you continue doing this for many more years
Overall, she is one of the best professors that I've had. This class wasn't an easy one, but she did a good job at covering the material and also makes time outside of class to help students when needed.
I wish more teachers were as dedicated and well versed as she is.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is passionate about the subject, therefore, conveys material very well. She is fair and very informative with assignments and deadlines. She will go out of her way to help you get what you need to learn the material and do well in her class. She takes time to create learning material outside of just the textbook.
She gives mini lectures, which are interesting. Plus, she is helpful and encourages her students to study for her exams. Lastly, her handouts, study guides, and animation worksheets are online in Laulima. This is very convenient for the students.
Response to questions promptly.
she would keep an open mind for students print out assingments for her students and always have an open door
She knows the material really well and if there's any question we have that she can't answer, she always looks it up and gets back to us. Also, I like that she's really organized and has a bunch of resources to help us really get the material. The chapter notes and study guides are super helpful.
she knows A&P very well and gives her students everything needed to learn the material effectively. she is one of my the best teachers i've had since high school.
She knew what she was talking about. Gave good information and i learn a lot from it.
She gave lots of resources for us to utilize throughout the semester. She always posted on laulima and sent out e-mails. And in the second we suggested we needed more lectures or anything, she was always ready to switch her schedule around to accommodate the class.
Her major strengths as a teacher was that she was always accesible to students and when asked for help through email she was always prompt in returning the emails.
Her knowlege about the subject and she encourages the students to move up their grades.
Good communication, good classroom management, knows the subject, and responds to email quickly.
helpful, knowledgeable, encouraging
Caring, and offering help when needed.
Let us think for ourselves, critical thinking.
She is helpful and encourages students to get better scores on tests. She uses media (powerpoints, blackboard collaborate) as a way to reach out to students if she's not doing lecture/review in class. She comes to class organized because she always bring handouts for us.
She was VERY helpful and very quick to respond to any questions I had.
knows the material very well and wants everyone to succeed
She knows the subject very well.
She is a fantastic Professor, she is very energetic and well organized and does whatever it takes to help her students. She presents the material in a very positive manner and never seems in a bad mood.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Spend less time on trying to build students abilities to work together as groups. Less focus on problem based learned cases.
Perhaps, the only comment I would give is to use fewer paper during the beginning of the semester. I remember that in the first two weeks of school, we were overwhelmed with a lot of handouts. Keep things concise. With regards to everything else, she is an awesome teacher. I would definitely take her for Zoology lab.
Her PBL session doesn't really help her students to understand the A&P. It takes a lot of time.
nothing
Can't think of any.
Just the work, there was a lot of work due in one day. I had a hard time trying to turn it a all in
I would suggest her to be a bit more organized with her lectures. I could see the effort in her teaching which made me want to learn but constantly switching from powerpoint to whiteboard in a single lecture made it difficult to follow.
More mini lectures
Need more organized syllabus and hand-outs..
If possible, maybe not to put "All of the above" or "None of the above" as answers constantly in exams. It gets us mixed up with what the actual answer is.
I didn't like how we did so much work on animations and case reports when theyre not worth a lot of points.
the notes and the study guide was a bit too much. I don't like the fill in the blanks on the notes. I wish she didn't make those fill in the blanks so u can print it out and study it. It takes time to do it, which is why some people don't bother using it. Sometimes people don't have the time. I would rather just get to studying right away instead of filling in the notes first. she needs to narrow it down a little especially the final exam study guide was very overwhelming, therefore it's hard to study for the exams especially if it takes time to comprehend the subject. She needs to understand that everyone is different. Just because your a C or D average student it doesn't mean you didn't work hard or didn't study enough. Some students can comprehend faster and some takes time. She sure makes it hard to get an A in this class. It seems those A students are the smart ones who probably has a photographic memory, but if you work hard this class is passable.
none
Do more lecturing in class along with the PBL.
Regarding her teaching style, none.

No changes!
The only thing i would like to change would be to have the pre-exam quizzes due the day before the exam rather than through out the week, it would just make them more convenient. Although i understand why it is the way it is.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She constantly reminded and email us to keep us up to date with our class. She asked us our opinions in class and was open to suggestions for class time use, etc.
She says she is available at her office and comes around to help during group work.
try to reach out to students even and try to help them or work with them to pass
You can tell she really wants us to do well, she provides all the materials and resources you need to succeed in the class - there's online notes, lectures, animations, study guides, and even checklists for every week. She also gives a bunch of opportunities to boost your grade with extra assignments. If you fail the class it's because you didn't put the effort in.
she gave us opportunities to ask questions and she even changed exam dates to mondays for the students to study over the weekend.
She would help us as much as possible with our work, and if we didn't understand it she would try to explain it to us.
She always sent out e-mails for big announcements and small. She even sent individual e-mails to show progress in the class, to relay grades, etc.
She was very understanding when it came to students understanding the material, when things werent clear she made them clear.
She go over the questions from the exams that the students got the most wrong.
She notified students what to get in the upcoming exams in order to pass the class.
She gave us some feed backs. We had to write about how we feel and how well we are doing in this class and she gave us feedback. She also offers for help if we need it. She also offered extra credits which were very helpful, but sometimes those extra credits are not easy.
explained information thoroughly, available for questions, encouraged participation in class
Made it as easy as she could for students to be successful
She offered help and always let us know what her office hours was.
She updates our grades/scores on laulima regularly. Amy also encourages us to give our fellow students feedback on how well we are performing each other's tasks. This shows that she wants to get involved with how the group and individual is doing. Most importantly, she tells students how we could improve our grade by constantly communicating to us via email.
Yes, 100%
was very easy to get a hold of, and always returned emails right away. keeping me updated on my grade and what i need to get a better one.
She makes sure we understand the lectures.and she is always available to talk to.,
She always lets us know how the class did over all on the exams and if there are particular questions that we all struggled with she makes sure to take the time to review the material. Shes the type of Professor that will go the extra mile to help her students do well, the only way to do badly in this class is if you don't put in the effort.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Amy made entry into health science extremely doable and exciting because she herself is enthusiastic about the subject and provides great learning resources to help you through the semester.
Yes, I would recommend Amy Patz to other students. Her class is challenging, but she does help facilitate our learning. She is very helpful and shows concern towards her students.
Maybe.
yes even though i failed this class she gave me so much help and tryed to help me to understand her class its not easy but she helps you to understand
Yup, it's a good class, especially for people who like independent learning, because most classes aren't spent on lectures.
yes definitely.
yes i would because she makes class fun she will try and get everybody involved.
For students who could be self-directed enough in this hybrid class, I would recommend this teacher because she understands that this is a hybrid class and she does more than necessary for the actual class portion.
I would if they were able to handle the work of not being lectured and teaching themselves. other than that she was great.
Yes, definitely! For a teacher who's currently pregnant with a LOT of PATIENCE to teach! That's awesome, specially she was Thoroughly focused on teaching us in the best way that we could understand..
Yes. She is really nice and seems like she loves her job as a professor. She knows her material well.
This is really a hard class. Yes I would recommend her, but I would also give some warnings that this is a hybrid class which is all about learning own your own. I'm sure if we ask Ms. Amy for help, she will help us.
yes, great teacher
Yes, because she actually cares about students and wants them to succeed.
Yes if you are able to study really hard on your own. Her class is hybrid so if you need more than studying on own then I wouldn't recommend the PBL course.
Yes. Amy made the course as easy as possible.
I will-she was a great teacher!
yes, teaches you to work as a group and to be more responsible for yourself
Yes because students will really learn
I absolutely would. Because shes a great teacher to work with and makes some very tough material more manageable.
Yes I would recommend to students. Once you get a grasp on how the class material is organized, it becomes easy to succeed. Difficult at first to know how to use the resources provided.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is AWESOME! I wish she taught more classes...
She tells students ways they can memorize the material better so that they may succeed in the exams. This is very helpful.
thank you for trying to help me as much as you did, i just wasnt ready for this much school yet and mixing it with work but next semester i will give my 100% thank you again
She was a great teacher and really nice :)
wonderful teacher
I enjoyed her lectures a lot and I wanted to learn. If she had a more traditional class, I would love to take it.
Thank you for the encouragement you give to each and every student.
She's awesome!
I just wish she was teaching 142 as well.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
shes a great fun interesting professor and she always tries to help her students through problems. Shes always energetic and presents the material in a very positive way that engages students.
Helps to understand things easier.
She assists students a lot during lab experiments.
Her course is taught precisely as her syllabus states. She adapts well to fit the needs of her students.
Mrs. Patz is very, very, very smart in her field of study. She is truly an inspiration to me and all her students I would hope!
talking
She is very enthusiastic about the subject which makes it exciting to learn and she is also really approachable and easy to go to if anyone needs help.
Being available and understanding.
She knew what she was teaching.
She knew her materials really well.
Very nice and easy to listen to.
black oyster
she knew her stuff...she spoke directly to us and told us what she knew. she's a pro at what she teaches.
I feel that her strength would be that she knew a lot about the subject. With this, she was able to explain to us about it in a clear and effective way.
Awesome Instructor!
She's very nice and helpful to her students.
She was always there for her students. She made sure we understood the materials.
Her major strength were she knew what to talk about and made class as entertaining as possible.
her experiments are more fun to learn than anything else she does.
She explains the lesson very well so that all the students can understand what they are during especially during experiments
Very sweet, Friendly and knowledgeable. Tests were very Clear and fair. Excellent teacher! Always Ready to help us and always offering help in idenditfying structures of the body. Very dissapointed she seems to not be teaching for the fall semester due to having a child! I wanted to take more of her classes, i hope she comes back After maternity leave!
knowledgeable of subject matter, helpful with questions, encouraging and patient. I enjoyed her lab very much!
knowledgeable in the subject area. excellent communicator. good classroom management. offered help to students. very patient, sensitive and understanding towards students. very nice and approachable.
I think her main strength is her enthusiasm for teaching the course. You can tell she is fascinated with the material. She is also very thorough in explaining topics, for example if a student tries to explain how they understand the concept and they are a bit off she will correct them to make sure they know the information correctly. Her class is well planned out so that you know what to is expected and when things are do. I am sad she is not teaching Zool 142 because I would without a doubt sign up for her class. I loved this class.
Her explanations are concise and easy to understand. She's also very patient and thorough.
-Knowledgeable -Helpful -Great Personality
Just that she knows her subject very well and was able to explain to her students clear when they don't understand the material.
She know's what she's explaining to us and explains clearly
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I think her classes are very well structured.
None

change your face
I dont feel any changes should be made because everything was completly fair.
Maybe study guides, to give us a heads up on what to concentrate for exams.
Just the work a lot of work was crammed i believe and I had a hard time just trying to get everything in on time.
I suggest making each studies (online) also in class and have the online studies less boring...
none. terrific teacher just how she is.
some of the things she lectures or talk about in class are a little difficult to understand - needs more clarifying. In the beginning, she was able to explain the material very well. There a lot to study for the exam, I would appreciate if she could be more specific on what areas to focus on studying especially on the models.
I suggest starting the bones and muscles before the pig dissection so that the students have more time to study those chapters. Also, find a more creative way to incorporate the cell slides. I really don't see the point of the slides. We never talk about them or apply them to our experiments or dissections, so they seem pointless.
-Need Extra Credit
None.
More lectures in class
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She is always available to help students one on one or answer any questions in class, she always finds what problems the most people had trouble with on exams and helps us go over it, she is very open to taking suggestions from students to modify the class to our individual needs so that we can do well in this class.
She always answered questions and suggested if help is needed let her know.
She emails me letting me know what I need in order to pass the class.
She always takes the time to go over the class information with her students and explains things very well. She is patient and easy to get along with.
She would always remind us to visit her office hours and make herself available to come in if we needed extra help.
Open to listening about questions and concerns.
If you missed a lab and you contacted you then she'll make arrangements for you to make up whatever you missed.
Always offering help and ready to answer any questions.
She showed concern for students by making sure she made known that her office hours were available, responded to emails promptly, always took the time to explain any uncertain concepts and graded and posted grades very quickly.
Very supportive!
She would always go to each group asking if we we're ok and if we had any questions. She never just watched us perform the materials, she's always walking around and participates with us.
she will always have ways too communicate with us and give us email concerning how we were doing in class and would try and help us to do better.
she noticed some students lacked enthusiasm and asked if anything went down or something
I had a family emergency and I had to leave class early, she gave me a chance to gain the rest of the points that I miss the day I left early
Always offering to help us, very sweet teacher. get the sense she really cares. Terrific.
available to answer questions outside of class, during her office hours. helpful in explaining why a question was marked wrong on assignments.
She offers help and she is very approachable. She is not one of those intimidated teachers. She has a kind personality and soft spoken, which is why it's easy for students to interact with her or ask for help.
By answering questions thoroughly. She was always explained concepts before we did experiments to make sure we knew why the experiment was important.
-She is willing to help and give tips to students when they are in need.
Encourage the students to go online to help us better understand the materials as well keep us inform if any changes are made through the assign scheudule.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I hope to have Mrs. Patz as my ZOOL 142 lab teacher for the Fall 2012 semester. I really like the way she teaches!!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Ms. Patz is an effective teacher who is able to reach out to the students. Her prior knowledge in the field helps students understand/answer their questions about topics related to real-life issues or cases.
She was good at bringing in her quirky sense of humor into the narrated power points (lectures). She was very organized and quick in grading our material. Things were straight forward and I felt she was always available if I need help with some thing.
Good examples.
Real kind and concise about what needs to be done. Provides outlines for everyone.
Compassionate teacher who provides us with all the resources.
She is always prepared and gives us many different resources that are very useful in tests. She sets deadlines that encourages the students to not procrastinate. She is always available for any problem or questions!
Her major strengths as an instructor is that she is always there, willing to help a student with any problems he/she are struggling for the course
Mrs. Patz major strength is her willingness to help, advice in retaining information and the way she lectures/provides resources that has helped me learn and do well on the exams.
she gives extra credit opportunities in which leads us to see the extra credit options also open doors to help us understand the topic.
She was able to explain content in the course very well in a lecture form.
her class is very fun
Professor Patz was the most organized teacher I have had. She kept me on track with a week by week assignment. She went above and beyond the duties of a teacher by providing outlines, to-do lists, online lectures, extra credit opportunities, and resources that would help us on the exam.
knowledge of the subject
She provided lots of activities to help us understand the material.
knows subject well and motivated students to do their best
She is very compassionate and really wants her students to learn.
Organized and helpful.
she provided several methods of learning such as lecture, online notes and powerpoints and was always available for questions.
It is very clear that Amy is a very caring teacher and she explains complex concepts in a way that makes it easy for her students to absorb.
She is a good motivator, very encouraging, very smart and very organize teacher.
Full knowledge of the subject and provided us to learn with other peers and independently as well.
She knows her class very well.
Mrs. Patz was always available if I had questions or needed something explained in further detail. She was very knowledgeable about Zool.
Gives us many opportunities and methods to learn and retain very difficult material. Very dynamic and engaging.
Course is very organized and she explains everything is detail.
Clear presenter of subject information. Uses different study tools to assist you with the subject material. This allows you to understand the material you need to know.
Very helpful to students.
Amy teaching method is really great. She understands the material very well, and is very organize. She is one of my best teachers i ever had in college. She kept me interested in the subject which hard to do with a subject like zoology. Overall she really cares for the student, and i can she really cares for her students.
as much of a nuisance as the subject is, professor Patz still worked to make the material as appealing as possible.
She is very nice and thorough about her teaching. Quizzes and exams online are a plus. We can always go to her for help anytime, and she does not hesitate to create analogies for a better understanding.
Knowledgeable, patient, and punctual (returning emails, grading material, etc.)
Everything was organized.
She's approachable and genuinely encourages her students to be successful students. She is very knowledgable in the subject and has an extraordinary skill in explaining complex concepts in simple terms for all students to understand.
She is a good teacher and she explained well our lectures.
She is an instructor well versed in her subject, which makes learning from her much easier since you can approach her with any question with out worrying about being too obtuse.
She knows well about material.
helps students in need of assistance with problem with material, very helpful
She is willing to help students when possible. She is fair and willing to do what she can to help you succeed in her class.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
I felt at the very beginning of the course, it was really clear to me how to approach or utilize all of the components of the hybrid class, ie; laulima, narrated power points, lecture notes, animation ect.. It took me until after the first exam to understand how these things work and once I did it made things like 10 times easier.
maybe not doing the pbl and making it strictly lecture?
Less lecture, more PBL.
She started the class lectures after hearing out that we wanted it.
I think for the problem based learning classes there should be one disease given to every student (or a group of students) at the beginning of the school year and they should do major research on it and give a very specific power point at the end of the semester. This power point should include all the side effects procedures required for treatment and all the causes of the disease. This way every one in the class would get a much stronger understanding of the disease. I did really enjoy the pbl part 2 where we would discuss our disease with the opposite groups disease but i did noticed that some students only knew the questions that were assigned to them and not any thing about the rest of the disease. I think this way every one needs to understand all the specific details and master a particular disease and teach it to other students!
Just maybe upload the powerpoint slides/narrative slides early in the week we first learn the chapters.
nothing, the way she sets up her course is honestly well thought out. She makes you do hw, quizes and watch the animations on time by giving an extra credit on the exam only if everything is done. If I forget to do a quiz the point will not be added. Mrs. Patz even changed her original schedule because her students had a suggestion but she asked all her students in both class to vote on what to do and she made those changes to satisfy her students.
to give more lecture then activities during her classes, because it would be more helpful doing exams.
Add more time for lectures.
more inclass teaching
course is too broad
none
none
I appreciate how she made changes and lessened the number of cases that we needed to investigate in order to make sure that we would be successful on our exams by thoroughly knowing the curriculum.
Dont have as much group work.
It would be nice if the blackboard collaborates could be posted earlier. With that said, I understand that Amy must have a lot on her plate :)
None.
Go over chapters in class instead of us reviewing it on our own at home.
fair grading system.
Keep the number of PBLs small so that each PBL can have a focus rather than trying to keep up with constant PBLs.
Nothing
I would like a little more class instruction for this hybrid course. Other wise Don't change a thing.
Spend more time on lecture rather than PBLs.
No changes
No changes. At first I was unsure of this hybrid format, but not this hybrid class is pretty damn good.
I felt that the PBL learning issues are very important, however, I think that maybe a little less time devoted to discussion partners, and maybe more for lectures. But definitely still keep the PBL learning style. Huge difference in learning in a positive way.
More lecture time.
As long as she continues to be receptive of her students feed back (which she exceeds in) and she remains approachable (which she is), she will continue to master and improve her skills, techniques, and approches as a teacher. She's an excellent instructor!!!
Keep retooling the hybrid class dynamic. It seems there is still that struggle to get even veteran students into the unique class style. It's not to say that is at all any fault of hers, but there is still room for improvement.
This class more need lecture for help students.
don't do pbl's
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She often asks the class if they have any questions/concerns with anything. She encourages students to ask for any help if needed.
Making her self available. Addressing learning issues that seemed to be common throughout the , for example if a bunch of us didn't answer correctly to some thing she would always take time to go back through and make sure we understood.
she emailed back right away
Always listening to students concerns, worries and adjusting if needed.
She will meet with you one-on-one and plan an action plan if needed.
She would post the narrated power points on black board which was the best way of studying for me! They helped me understand that i am actually more of an auditory learner and that in class lectures do very little for me in learning. By listening to those narrated power points i was able to learn every thing in one sitting and i really hope all the professors start using that method!
During class she walks around and she always ask each of us if we need help or if we understand.
She showed concern for her students by replying to emails, setting up meetings with her students and taking in their concerns and questions.
she goes over problems that we have on our assignments to give a clear picture.
When she changed the class schedule to put in more lecture time on more difficult parts of the content.
she reply emial very fast, we know what to do in class or at home.
She made sure that we asked if we had any questions or to see her at her office if we had any questions or concerns about the class. She also had us do a mid-semester evaluation and then she modified the class in regards to what people wrote in their evaluation. It showed that she listened to what the students thought.
She provided us with surveys to see which parts of the chapters we weren't too clear about.
always stated that if we needed help, we can always email. after every blackboard presentation, she would always mention that if we had questions, that we always ask.
She gave feedback often and she allowed for one exam to be taken later than the due date with no questions asked.
Always available and quick to respond with any questions.
allowed us to take paper tests instead of online if we wanted, gave us opportunities to correct our essays for a better grade.
Amy had clear office hours in her syllabus and when asked was more than wiling to schedule appointments to accomodate her students.
She is very concern with our studies, she is giving us tips on how to cope with her subject, and she is very easy to reach whenever we have problems with the subject.
She sent out emails to us regarding our grades for assignments, exams, and quizzes. She answers all of our questions.
She suggests study habbit.
Mrs. Patz showed concern for students by encouraging us to study and providing us with more than enough information to help us get a decent grade if we just applied ourselves.
Always makes herself available to assist with questions on material, quick to respond to emails and communication to go over tests.
She was very concern with our opinions as students and how we can help her with any suggestions that will help her future students.
Allowed you to call on classmates to help you answer questions. Every individual was called upon she did not target any one person . offered her assistance a lot of the time.
She would come around the classroom asking if we needed any help or had any questions. She would also tell us to email if we have any questions and responds back quickly. She provides a lot of feedback concerning the work we do.
Grades, always helped us, went out of her time to post power points and lectures for us online, and she showed us that she put in alot of work to make sure we succeed in her class.
We asked many questions and she made us understand the content with a better picture.
Always stayed after class to answer questions that students may have had, made adjustments to some scheduling to accommodate students and their time needed for studying or getting things done. Made many resources available to the students to encourage the reinforcement of learning the material.
Available to meet outside of class.
She always remained accessible and open to our feedback! She also asked us our opinions, probably because she knows that many students (especially in Hawaii) are passive and aren't accustomed to telling the teacher what we believe he/her is doing wrong or areas in which they need inprovement. Amy Patz opened those lines of communication for us, so that we didn't have to put ourselves in a potentially uncomfortable situation.
She is concerned about how our studies.
She has a wealth of student forgiveness for common student excuses, both legitimate and rote.
shows concern by checking if students get the material or not that she's explaining
She wants students to succeed and learn the material and is willing to help students who want to succeed.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend her to studnets because she is a very nice teacher who is willing to help her students pass the course. She grades her quizzes and exams fairly.
I would recommend Amy Patz to other students because her course offers an experience to learn the subject with applying real-life case studies to help understand concepts. All of the resources, assignments and lessons she offers is very useful.
Yes, because I felt like she cared and she was funny and engaging.
yes, shes a good teacher who knows the subject well
Yes, her teaching is simple, effective, and enjoyable to learn under. Learned quite a lot and smoothly.
Yes, great teacher concise and very informative.
YES, because as long as you put in the effort for studying and follow the deadlines correctly, there is no possible reason why you should not pass this class with a very good grade.
I would recommend taking her if hybrid courses are your thing.
I would recommend Mrs. Patz because you literally learn from her class and helps us students to be responsible and self learners/independent people that will help us go far in our careers in the health field.
yes, because she is an excellent teacher and does whtever she can to help her students achieve the subject they need to know.
Yes because she is great at explaining things during lectures.
in class teaching will be really good
Yes. I would highly recommend her. She is efficient, organized, and my only professor who provided grades immediately (or as soon as they could) with a complete detailed percentage and point-by-point guide. I have never had a professor do this before and it helped me achieve the grades that I did because I never had any questions about my status in class. It kept me on track.
Yes, I would recommend her to other students because although it was a hybrid class she still did narrated powerpoints. The powerpoints helped me understand the material a little better than just reading the a&p book by myself.
yes, great teacher
Absolutely! She is a great teacher. She makes you work hard, but you come out really knowing what Zoology is all about.
Yes.
yes. she is a reasonable teacher and tries to make the subject exciting and accessible.
I would recommend Amy to any A&P student who wants to learn the subject properly and is willing to do the work needed to get an A.
Yes, because she is very good in teaching.
I would recommend students who can work on an online course for this class. Things are independently learned at home on your own. Also students who like to work in groups, classes are mainly in groups when we do have class, other than that everything else is on your own.
Yes I would because she makes learning Zool fun and interesting.
YES. Makes learning the material fun.
Yes, because she's a great teacher who helps her students as much as she can.
Yes just because she is a great Educator and students will learn a large amount of useful course material.,
yes, very nice, helpful teacher who shows concern for students.
yes, great teacher
Yes, i would recommend her to other students, because in this class you'll really lean to be more independent, organized, and timely mannered.
Definitely. She works extremely hard to make so many resources available to the students. Regular powerpoints, narrated powerpoints, Wiley Plus, quizzes on Laulima, and animation worksheets in addition to the text. She basically makes learning so easy for the student. But at the same time it encourages students to learn on their own. If these still aren't enough, then she encourages students to email her and ask questions.
Yes because she knows the subject very well.
Yes, because she is one of the best teachers that I've head in a college level class (and I have taken many classes because I received a Bachelor's degree in psycholody at UH Manoa and have taken other classes at KCC).
I would only be able to recommend the course to those who are already well self motivated. For the uninitiated, the workload will be too much.
Yes, because her lecture is easy to understand materials.
highly recommended, very good teacher and knows her stuff
Yes because I like the PBL class. She is helpful.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Ms. Patz is very kind and helpful to students. I appreciate her teaching methods and does her best for students to really learn the subject.
She wasn't any easy teacher, she didn't cut much slack but if you did your part you should do well.
shes awesome
I enjoyed the PBLs, a lot more than lectures.
She is an amazing teacher and cares for every student to learn all the materials and her tests are very fair when you have studied.
That she is a really nice and wonderful teacher.
This is my first semester in Kcc and I'm a Sophomore. I can honestly say she is the best professor I had by far.
none
she is great, i really like her
She always encouraged you to speak out in class and if you didn't know the right answer, she was very kind about it and guided you to the right answer. I didn't feel intimidated.
Great professor.
great job
She is very down to earth and approachable and even took the time to know the names of the students in her lecture classes. It is a great environment when your teacher takes the time to learn your name and know who you are.
Good teacher.
She's a very compassionate teacher who is knowledgable in her subject. She is always open to any questions and that is an invaluable quality in any teacher.
Continue the excellent job.
Thank you.
By far the best instructor I have had at Kapiolani.
Thank you!
Thank You
no
She makes one of my top great professors list,
Highly recommended. Very impressed with teaching style and the hybrid format.
She is a very kind and caring instructor. I hope she can maintain that same attitude as an instructor for the rest of her interim as a teacher.
She is great teacher!
very nice teacher and has high knowlege of the material she teaches
18. Other comments:
I was glad to be able to learn more effectively from Ms. Patz's class compared to my previous experiences in this course.
She is amazing!

i really like this class
I really enjoyed her blackboard collaborate. She is a great teacher and I learned more from her lectures online than I did from the book. I liked her analogies and jokes. I hope my ZOOL 142 professor will be as enjoyable and easy to understand as she was.
If you are looking for a lecture class make sure you sign up for one that indicates only lecture. Do not take a hybrid class if you don't want to do work online.

.
Overall, I am happy to be with her class.
none.
The College is fortunate to have a Great professor.
...
Class once a week was the best part, rather than coming twice or three times being that i live far to the west side.
Thank you!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She knew exactly what she was talking about when she lectures the students. She knew the subject very well, which is always good because that's what the students expect anyway.
Good teacher knows her stuff well.
She really took the time to explain everything in class. She made sure that we were not just doing the experiments, but understanding why and what we were doing.
Her major strengths as a teacher is that she is always there, willing to help a student with any problems he/she are struggling for the course
Amy Patz is very good at explaining the subject matter in a way students can understand it better, she's an overall very good teacher.
Amy Patz knew there course material very well.
Funny/ Fun teacher.
she made sure that everyone understood the material very well. she gave great example that we can relate to and made learning fun.
She teaches very clearly and explains all the details.
Very well-versed, and made the subject matter fun to learn. Very helpful when giving the oral quizzes to each group. She didn't lecture too long (as expected in a lab), and when she did, she focused on what we should concentrate on for the exams.
very flexible with working with students to help them attain a better understanding of the course material, even if it means changing her lesson plan.
explaining the material that needed to be covered
She showed that she knew the subject very well. She was always available for help even when it is not the assigned class time.
Very engaging and willing to give her own time to assist someone in their learning.
Amy is well organized and is able to convey concepts and information very well. She creates an open atmosphere of learning by encouraging questions and discussions about topics.
She thoroughly explains all labs and assignments
She is very knowledgeable about Zool 141. She is a really good teacher, that makes you want to learn. She was always willing to meet before or after class if you want to discuss your grades or just to get an idea of where your at.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
I really enjoyed her class, there is nothing that i would change.
No changes at all
I don't have any changes.
none
i feel that we should of gone over all the material that was needed for the exams. like the atlas figures and the micro anatomy slides.
Maybe to show and go over the models very fast and quickly at the beginning of the class. Because due to the very bad models that we have it takes a very long time to find some very easy number on the models. If she goes over them quickly at the beginning of each lab class then the students have a slight idea of what they are looking for and in which general area they should look for it!
Perhaps she could give the written quizzes towards the end of the lab instead of at the beginning.. I realize the quizzes are meant to figure out if the student read the assigned chapters before lab, but in order to minimize cheating (some students looking at another students paper) and to keep the student in class for the full 2 hours, it might be better for students to take it after the lecture/lab. They will be confident to answer the quizzes on their own (rather than peeking at another students), and can't leave lab early or when Ms.Patz isn't looking.
don't do any pbl (problem based learning) sessions or classes.
Nothing really. Majority of everything seems fair. Maybe if she graded things "easier-less harsh"
Nothing
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She'll approach the student and talk to that person or she'll just email showing concern.
She always took her time with the students. She never rushed anyone and always took in account any answer that was given. She made herself avvailable outside of class as well.
She always ask each of us if we need help or any questions about the topic
Patz always helped me answer questions, and made sure I understood the concept thoroughly, she made herself easily accessible during class.
.
she went around the room to make sure that we were right on track and tested us on the material we learned.
she was available all the time in class or out side of the class to help students with materials for the lab and for the tests!
She demonstrated how lab experiments are to be done (to minimize confusion) and went around to every group to see how they were doing during model examinations. You can tell she really wants every student to succeed.
asks students if they understand the material and explains in the best way for students to understand
She was available to meet out of class.
Always attempting to quiz to check on progress BEFORE tests or quizzes happened.
Her office hours are clear and she's willing to meet with students as long as an appointment is set up. She's always encouraging student participation and discussion.
She expressed her concerns in our opinion as students to give any suggestions, so she can better her teaching for future students.
She showed concern by making herself very accessible to her students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes! She's a very nice professor! Very lenient on a lot of things.
Yes! she is a great teacher. She is a fair teacher. I feel like i learned a lot from her class.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Amy is the shit!
She is good teacher because her lecture is easy to understand.
Always willing to point us in the right direction when we are doing homework questions and asking questions we are not sure about. Takes the time to make us understand the subject. Uses the full class time during the summer session and tries to fit as much as she can in that session.
shes motivated to teaching us the material, always willing to stay back and help us with whatever.....even with other classes.....an amazing person =) love her to death
She is great at explaining concepts and is very nice/not intimidating. Great teacher!
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Yeah she should kick usagawa out of lecture and patz should teach it.
There were a few experiments that we couldn't do due to ineffective equipment and also need newer models. If at all possible if the school can buy these equipment then we can properly test these experiments. Other than that everthing was great!
no changes....except too bad she couldn't be able to teach 141 and 142 lecture and lab....
Wish I could think of some bc I know it is helpful...but everything was great.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she was truly concerned about our well being and wanted us to succeed in the lecture even tho she didnt teach it!
She would stay pass class time to help us if we had any questions. Extend her office hours to make sure that we got our materials for the exams.
was always there for us willing to help with everything and anything.
She is patient, kind and understanding.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, she is amazing you learn alot and she is a sweetheart
Yes, I would. Very Great teacher!
yes i would...she wants you to know the material not just have you pass the class. she's very sweet and teaches the material easily.
Definetley, one of best teachers I've had.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is the best AP professor, jonen is aswell...
Thank you for the great experience in Zoology lab! It really helped me understand my lecture class even more.
she needs to teach 141 and 142 =)
Don't change a thing!
18. Other comments:
Dr. J is the MAN! so funny and good sub when we had him, I wish i had Dr. J for lecture I would actually look forward to going to class. as opposed to usagawa there is no point... i can read off of the lectures too...
Thank you!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is very organized.
Amy encourages students participation in class. I liked that we took short quizes during her lectures. It notified me on what key areas to study.
Keeping students engaged in the class while still going over the whole material.
She knows her material and if we asked a question she didn't know the answer to she went to look up the answer and told it to us the next class period.
Amy Patz has many teaching strengths. One major thing is the review quizzes that we have after we cover the material while it is still fresh in our minds. Another thing is the well organized power point presentations and I love the notes that she has made for the class. She makes materials for the class easily accessible and if we do not
very passionate teacher who knows her craft very well. Really connects subject to real life content.
knew the subject well and showed great enthusiasm when teaching. very fair and helpful.
As a teacher, Amy shows great concern for every student (despite his or her grade). She's open to all of her students that either need to go over more information or talk about his or her progress in class. She always informs us of any coming up the next class or what's just been posted on the laulima website. she encourages all her students to participate in the lecture by answering anything she asks us.
Very enthusiastic about going the extra distants for students.
She makes her class enjoyable to be in.
Great knowledge of the subject area and use of everyday examples and memorization tips.
knowledgeable
Some of the major strength that Amy Patz has are the strong knowledge of certain topics, gets student to participate even though there are none, and motivation, the motivation that she gives her students to do well.
She knows the subject area very well and always encourages students to ask questions. She makes the class room environment as "fun" as possible despite the difficulty of the subject matter. I've taken her for 2 classes, and would take her again if she had a 3rd. One of the best teachers I've had.
she knows her material outstanding on her powerpoint.
Her lecture was fun, the in-class quiz and lecture notes help a lot, she also likes to share techniques that help us to memorize.
Amy Patz is a real professional. I think students can tell she has been teaching this course for some time. She is organized and attacks the tougher, harder concepts from the beginning of the lecture. There is a rhythm to her lecture. She jumps into lecture with a quick review, attacks a concept with q&a, a quick quiz, attacks a concept with q&a, quick quiz, lecture is over. Its all business because there is so much material to cover in a short period of time. For this class, the students have high expectations and performance of themselves. I think students enjoy her class because they want to work at a same level as Amy Patz.
She genuinely cares about her students. Not only does she know how to communicate with them in a way so that we understand the content she is teaching, but she is always available to her students should we need further help.
She could explain well on anatomy and gave students clearer knowledge of information
She appears very approachable.
Amy Patz's major strengths as a teacher are, shes well organized, knows here what shes teaching,
Ms. Patz is a natural leader, not just because she stands in front of a classroom, because she exudes confidence and projects a strong sense of excitement for course material towards her audience. Anatomy and Physiology weilds some difficult concepts that demands attentiveness, so behind the enthusiasm of her well organized lectures students demonstrate the desire to participate in class. She establishes a safe environment for learning, the kind that fosters positive feedback even when one took a risk to raise their hand to answer a question (whether correct or incorrect) during class. During lecture, often Ms. Patz asks the three dollar word "why" as she looks out across her room, and as a result her students start to get involved in the process of feeling like their understanding of the material is important, and that they are part of a movement towards grasping key concepts. Ms Patz is always available for her students during her office hours. Often, I felt like I was a permanent fixture in her office asking one question after the next; however, not once did she turn me away or make me feel like I was wasting her time. It became very clear that when she decides to do something, that she rolls up her sleeves, and jumps into with both feet. She never gives up on her students. I'll always be grateful for everything she has taught me.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing
request 1 hour and 20min classes because 3- 50 min. classes were unfortunately rushed
I know it may not be possible, but I wish we had more lecture time to go over things! Other than that I really enjoyed your class immensely!
use 3D graphics for power points
i wish extra credit quizzes could've been completed up until class time (11) instead of hour before.
No changes are needed in my perspective.
Slow down sometimes. Some things were briefly covered and quickly looked at.
more extra credit, take care of the lower grade students
None. Maybe a longer class time so we don't have to rush through the material that needs to be covered.
nothing
none
Maybe move the deadline for online quizs after the class instead of before the class.
There is a lot of subject matter to cover in this class. I think it would be a good idea to assign students to draw pathways like hormones from post-pituitary go where/affect what, tubular fluid flow through pct-collecting ducts indicating reabsorption, excretion, secretion of ions, water, hormones. Make these assignments optional and due on exam day as an EC. It's study guide and reinforces the processes.
None
Her exams should not be too difficult, her questions always consisted of MANY questions that were misleading by one word which are very tricky. I study so hard yet those questions always get to me
The study guides are too broad. since we have 7 or 8 exams total for the whole semester, she should be a littel more specific on the study guide. Also, when she usually runs out of time in class, she makes us study many of the sections on our own
A suggestion that I would considered is just a review before exams. Other then that here class is well organized.
NONE!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She replies immediately when there are questions in emails. She also shares some ideas on how an A student studies.
Amy spoke/emailed me when my grade droped and encourgaed me to meet wih if I needed help in studying.
updating students via email on how they are doing in the class and offering help at any time.
always asked questions, emailed us about grades and better ways to study for exams
She showed concern through the quizzes and the grades and advice that she posts up. The quizzes is for the temperature check to see if the students are absorbing the material, the grades (along with other peoples' grades) help one know where they are in the class, and the advice is for people struggling in the class or people who want to continue to do well.
constant asking of feedback and emails.
Amy Patz shows concern by informing those who might need to go over a bit more than what is covered in lecture because in the given amount of time, we sometimes don't go over as much as she planned. Show she informs all of us that she is willing to go over with anyone that wants to after class or office hours.
Constantly asking students to ask for help if needed.
She gives quizzes in class for students to remember something about the lecture that she just went over and she listen to students if they have any question and comments.
went over exams with students individually to help them better understand the things they had a hard time with. She also sent email notifications to remind us and provided resources online in laulima.
ask questions and quiz in class, answer all the questions from students during class
She asked if we had trouble with certain topics that we don't quite understand.
She would always answer my questions emailed to her promptly. She also did her best to help rearrange her schedule should you need help outside of class.
she is really concern about her students
She always keep in touch with her students, spend time to reply emails and answer questions.
Every lecture Amy Patz starts with questions from the class. She will stop the lecture 2 or 3 times (depending on depth of the subject) and give the class an opportunity to ask questions and clarify the lecture. Students always asks questions and Amy Patz clarifies the lecture point. She stays after class to answer additional questions and makes herself available to students during her office hours.
Always available to her students. She is constantly monitoring their progression throughout the semester and always goes out of her way to reach out to students who may need the extra guidance or who are not "keeping up" in class.
She responded to emails, whenever questions were asked she would make them clearer for us to understand without confusion
she provides 1 extra credit quiz for each of the chapter that we go over.
She showed concern for students by always listening and answering there questions, she gives one make up exam and give extra credit points for completing her online quiz's and also she's always positive.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. Zoology class is much more interesting.
Yes. Excellent teacher.
Yes. Shes very knowledgable and keeps students focused by her upbeat personality.
Yes because she is able to teach the material to the students in a way we can understand it
I would highly recommend her to any student because her lectures are interactive, incredible, and she always makes sure that anyone and everyone is equally exposed to the material.
definitely. She really emphasizes and reiterates the material in a way that students can understand.
yes and i already have recommended her. great teacher.
I highly recommend Amy Patz to any incoming student that wants to learn about the human body. Because of the topic being covered, it's generally a difficult course to cover. Amy Patz teaches at a slow, easy understanding pace for anyone and if you don't understand she is willing to temporarily halt her lecture or go over with you after class.
Yes. They will have a good chance to earn a good grade by learning good material.
I WILL RECOMMEND HER TO OTHER STUDENTS.
Yes, she gives you a lot of detail when learning the anatomy of the human body and the short quizzes keeps you on your toes and up to date with the class lectures.
yes, but only if the students really wanna learn something and smart. if you only wanna get an A or not very self motive!
Yes, she's very knowledgeable.
Yes, by far the best anatomy lecture teacher I've seen.
absolutely she is a great instructor
Yes I will, she is a really good instructor.
Amy Patz's friendly nature makes her approachable. Her professionalism earns her respect right away. I can't say that I've heard a student speak poorly of her. They may not like the language of a question on an exam, but students quickly realize that its because they do not understand the subject as clearly as they thought or incorrectly read the question/answer. I wouldn't want to take this class with another instructor. She is highly recommended.
DEFINITELY! And I do! She is a great instructor and relates to students well, cares about her students and how they do in her class, makes sure she students are prepared for exams, knows the subject extremely well, and is always there should we need additional help.
For the lecture, not really because her exams affect your grade in this case it occurred to me
I think overall, Ms. Patz is okay. So i would recommend her.
Yes I would recommend here to students, because shes well organized, got everything planned, and always want here students to learn and understand whats she teaching. Also provide a positive and learning atmosphere.
Yes I would and have already done exactly that. When asked how was she as a teacher, I always respond with the same few sentences. She really cares about her students, but she is very fair. You have to work hard to earn an A in her class. You learn more that way though, because you have to push yourself harder. She is always available for you when you have questions.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
When taking her lecture class if can try to enroll in her lab course as well (no matter ho late it is). Doing so allows you to relate both lab and lecture much easier because the order of topics taught in lab correlate with the ones in lecture.
Very recommended.
thanks professor!
I had her for 2 semester and it was worth it. I learned a lot, it wasn't only for the good grade I want but the materials/topics that I wanted to get off of.
Great teacher, wish there were more like her.
good job
KCC is a wonderful person. She is a humble and considerate human. If I were a student in her department, I would want her to be my advisor. Amy Patz gives students the feeling that no challenge is to big to overcome or too small to ignore, so much as it a task to be completed. She has a real 'go for it' attitude.
Truly an asset to KCC and the UH system.
She provided me with a tough semester but made me learn for myself
how i wish there are less exams.
Really enjoyed her class,I learned a lot. Just keep doing on what shes doing.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Her strengths as a teacher was providing a great attitude towards students which made me want to learn. Also her labs were engaging and provided with me useful information
knows material well, just a great teacher overall
She's nice and does show some concerns to her students.
Well experienced and good lab planner to utilize the whole three hours.
Informative. Fair. Helped students.
She is a great teacher and very knowledgeable in her subject. She is easily accessible to all students. Also, always goes over the directions in class and informs us early by email to keep in my of what's going on.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Do grade her creative images easier. I felt she was harsh on them and expected too much
none
I would suggest not grading so hard and marking off just .5 points. Her grading is kind of difficult. Maybe suggest more extra credit?
Maybe offer some short breaks every so often. If they want to keep working then let them though.
none
no changes
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She responded to emails quickly, her concern for students if missed class was fair, always provided alternative opportunities
always asked if we had questions and made sure we understood the material and went over it thoroughly.
She would ask if we had any questions.
She gave us email reminder and provided a lot of the resources online.
helped students before and after class.
She always email her students of anything that were going to do in class. Always reminding of exams and proper attire for the lab.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, she engages students to take part in activities, grading isnt that strict
i recommend to take her class.
Yes because class is easy if one can handle all the material there is to learn
Sure, but I think you could find another teacher that could not be so hard on the grading. She's nice I guess.
Yes, the labs are well organized and thought out.
Absolutely. She taught the subject well. Easy to understand.
I would recommend Amy pats to any student that wants to take Human Anatomy. She goes over the materials and directions slowly with the class to make sure everyone understands what is going on.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Keep exams same format but time frame could be longer
She grades hard in lab class.
I've enjoyed having her as my instructor!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She really cared about her students. She knew the subject well. She really encouraged learning and incorporated different forms of learning
knows everything about the materal she is teaching.
Amy would always go out of her way to help me understand the material. When hardships came up in my life, she understood and was more than willing to help work around my difficulties. I liked her so much that she is only 1 of 2 teachers I have ever bothered to sign up for her continued class (zoo142).
Amy Patz's major strengths are: she's well organize, shows good examples, makes class fun for learning, give fairly good test, and shows concerns for her students.
Knows material & is very thorough when answering questions. Presents material in such a way that makes it a little easier to learn (considering how difficult Zoology 141 really is).
she provides her students with study guides, which is very helpful for a very challenging classes, like zoology 141.
Patz has a good knowledge in this topic. Able to give different examples on different topics.
she wants to make sure that her students understand the material. she wants to make sure she can do everything in her power to ensure that she can get to each students way of learning. I've never had a teacher ask her students 'what can she do to help us learn and understand the material better?'
Ms.Patz strength are she knows the subject by heart, she has her own overview instead of word for word from the book. She is really organized with her notes and help students and makes it a lot easier for us with the exams n study guides.
She is very organized and her material flows nicely.
She encouraged us to ask questions, work together as groups.
I could really tell that Professor Patz really cared as a teacher, she really explained the material as best as she could, and was open to discussion when a student had something to bring up.
Her knowledge of subject area and the ability to engage with students.
She is very organized! She is also a great speaker! Her lectures were always very interesting. I found myself always motivated to be in her class. She was very prompt with checking email requests and responding.
She's extremely organized and her power points are very helpful with reviewing for exams and doing study guides. She's very knows what she's talking about and is very educated. Always having study sessions outside of class shows how much she cares about the students.
She definitely knew her material.
She thinks about her students a lot. She is very timely mannered and organized. She gives us chapter outlines and study guides for tests.
Enthusiasm, knowledge, and getting everyone to participate and understand certain material.
She is an awesome teacher always caring about us students asking us what she could do better so we understnad the material. She knows the material well and teaches in a way that students can easily understand as well.
She gives outlines of each chapter, and also lists topics that you need to concentrate on for each exam. These were extremely helpful in being successful in her course. Also, the extra credit quizzes online helped my grade alot, and was a good way for me to study as well.
Ms. Patz had so much energy during lectures. It made very difficult material much easier to intake. She always encouraged us to visit her during office hours and put a lot of time into helping me when I went to visit her. She always did a follow up with me which made me feel like she really cared about my progress in her class
She organize things very well. She upload the notes and powerpoints we need on time.
Organized and a great preparer for exams
Amy is very concerned with her student's learning and wants each of us to do our best and get the grade we want in the class and she is willing to help us do that.
Ability to explain scientific concepts in an approachable manner
she knows the course material and does her best to cover as much as she can in the chapter. shes very nice and very personable
Her strength is her passion and charisma for the subject matter. She inspires her students to learn.
This semester Amy Patz as a teacher has shown a vast knowledge in the science of Human A & P. She makes the atmosphere within the class much more lively despite the time of day. She encourages participation from all students and is very enthusiastic in her courses.
She presents in an orderly, easy-to-understand fashion. She also teaches with power points--two thumbs up to that because I'm a visual learner! :)
She made the material easy to understand and keeps the students envolved in the class
She knows the material very wells and preps students for what they need to focus on in each chapter.
Give plenty of examples and encourage her students to do well. Available outside of class.
She difinetly knows a lot about Anatomy and cares that her students do well.
I liked that she was very enthusiastic about what we were learning. She was also very knowledgeable about the material we learned. And if we did have a question she wasn't sure about, she was straight up about it. She didn't give us a maybe answer; she told us she would look into it and get back to us the next class period. I enjoyed the fact that not only did she have powerpoint but she also had lecture notes that we could bring to class and follow along with. That really helped. Her in-class quizzes helped a lot as well because it kept us alert in class and paying attention so we knew we wouldn't miss anything. I also appreciated the Study guides she made available to us via Laulima and that she offered extra study sessions before the exam. Those were helpful and very nice of her to offer up time from her busy schedule to help us get in some last studying before the exam.
she knew the subject well, and she speaks loud and clear... she doesnt make me fall asleep in class.
She cared about every question that been asked, and tried her best to solve it. Encourage students to study ane work with groups.
Ms. Patz knows how to get the students active in learning.
She is an effective communicator. Also the amount of information she knows about the subject is vast.
She knows the subject well. She likes to teach at a different POV such as listening, visual, or hands on
Amy presents the material in a fun and easy going manner which makes the students pay attention and want to learn the material. She encourages lots of class participation through various class activities, quizzes and this helps everyone learn from one another rather than just sit through another boring lecture. Lectures include experiences that most of us have encountered and this helps with remembering/learning the material.Amy is approachable and always trys her best to be available for her students...
She has a helpful personality in the classroom and has the material organized in a way that makes learning the material of the course very efficient.
Always being upbeat and prepared.
She is very helpful and organized.
That she knows the course material.
Very clear and provides good study outlines.
She cares about her students. I've been in the university system for some time and she is the first instructor I've had who has actually reached out to her students on an individual level... by choice. She is also very organized and gives us enough information to be well prepared for our exams. She also makes herself available to us at all times.
Very available when needed and she replies promptly to your messages. Which is great!!
Well organized modules helped a lot with the tests and the course!! Best online organization and help I've seen.
She is extremely helpful and available to her students. She encourages students to think for themselves while helping them step in the right direction toward succeeding in her class.
During labs she explains everything thoroughly.
Amy truly knows the subject she is teaching as is very accessible. She is clear in her instructions and is a very nice person.
She lets you know
she provided a good learning atmosphere. she is a very nice teacher who explanes the course content in a way that most people can understand (very simple words). basically she explains things very well and knows how to make whatever your learning interesting.
good course material
She gave a lot of examples to help us for our exams. She also emailed us our grades when we weren't doing so good.
She answers questions clearly and promptly.
-very helpful and understanding -very good attitude
care for students and knowledge of subject
clear directions in syllabus
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Don't forget to post up the studyguides
make more opertunities for students to gain more points, instead of offering only Exams and in-class quizes for points.
none
Some changes that I suggest for Amy Patz would be to have a review for exams, and to go over the exam answers as a class.
Possibly offer a little more extra credit.
she should be a little more organized and clear when explaining or discussing the materials during discussion. sometimes, she's a bit confusing because she jumps from here to another. more organize and clear lecture results in better understanding of students.
None.
Nothing in particular because it is a really difficult material in so little time that we have to learn the sub,i guess its just the time management of the class and that taking notes and quizzes are a good way for us to learn the material.
i know there is alot of material to cover but the in class exercises helped alot with memory.
Maybe a more descriptive exam study sheet.
More class activities.
None. She's good.
NONE
I think that the only thing I would change are the exam days. I think that she should make them on Wednesdays instead of Mondays. I found it very helpful to myself and stress level when we had our exams on a Wednesday. Also, I hated when she would randomly call on students for answers to in class quizzes. Its hard to retain all the information all at once and I think it makes students feel nervous.
Some questions and answers on the exams are sometimes confusing.
I tend to like straight forward lectures. I didnt like group exercises. I also didnt like being called on randomly for answers. It made me not want to come to class. I found that with the help of the chapter outlines, and reading the chapters thoroughly myself, going to class wasnt really neccesary.
Have study sessions before exams, or review days.
offer more points for the class. i didnt like how all the points are based on the exams and the extra credit is worth very little. i would like the class to be a little bit longer so she is able to feel more comfortable in teaching her material
N/A
As a teacher I see nothing that needs suggestions, perhaps better hours during the day however that can not be controlled.
None
could not think of any changes
I like the way the semester was ran.
id say more pictures on the board.... and if even possible, more time for this type of subject to be taught...
Ms. Patz could maybe explain things more thoroughly, & not rush through her explanations.
It would be better if she would speak a little bit slower. I also wish we could of stayed in each individual chapter a little bit longer.
Concentrate on sections into more depth
None
Set up online chat rooms for any help for people who are not able to go on campus.
That the exam format be changed to more questions with more defintions of the terms, rather then just about the figures of where exactly a term is, rather then what is does.
Allow exams to be taken outside of the testing center.
I wish I could give constructive criticism, but I can't think of anything.
None
Include some assignments in preparation for exams.
Nothing, really
I did not like that the majority of exams were only 18 questions long, this made it so that a single wrong answer was too harshly graded. I also would have liked to see longer chapter quizes that would aid in teaching the material.
Changes that I would suggest are making the modules for points so it forces the student to actually study them and make sure they fill the modules instead of just printing the answers.
dont be so popular! i wish ur class for next semester wasnt full:( i couldnt sing up...
none
I wouldn't have minded assignments because if we did bad on our test, then that's the only grades that would show.
none
more assignments for the online course so more opportunities to raise your grade if you do bad on the exams
more interactions
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She'd post up our grades right away, created studyguids and chapter guides, gave out extra credit.
anounced in class many times.
see my #13
She showed concern for her students by always providing help to her students either in class or outside of class.
By saying how the 3:15p class has been doing better overall on the exams...hahahaha!
she offers extra credit quiz for each chapter that we cover, which is i think so nice of her to do.
Ms.Patz showed concern for students by helping us outside of class, and notes are prepared for us by next lectures or really ahead of time to help us with the notes and study guides are all ready in laulima to just print them out and get a head start on reviwing on the exam. I like how she post her power point on laulima before and after the lecture just in case if we missed somthing on the exam it is there for us to reference for our notes.
she did student eval to help us see where we ourselves are at and what we can do better.
Was available for questions and answered emails very promptly.
If us students weren't doing well, especially after the exam she would tell us and remind us her office hours and that she is always there if we needed to talk to her.
Offered extra office hours to help out students in need.
She was very verbal with telling us that she was concerned about blank stares from students during her lectures, or when students didn't take the initiative to participate in class. She offered study sessions outside of lecture classes.
She provided review sessions before exams and made study guides for us to study from and she would go off of the study guides for her exams. She always asked us if we had any questions after every topic we covered.
She would ask us to meet her after class if we had any questions and also make time before exams to meet with us.
She is very accessible to her students outside of class. She is always there for her office hours. She always replies emails very quick. She is really helpful in many ways. She encourages her students to be successful in her class.
Amy had practically everyone participate during "open" quizzes to test our understanding, and making notes available to study/understand the chapters.
Always asked if we had questions.
She is willing to meet if the students want to see the grades or tests, or if the students would like to have a review session for the exams.
Had office hours and allowed students to come in after exams to see where they went wrong. She also helped
reminded students to come into her office hours if we needed help or just needed to talk and she made extra office hours during the semester for us to review and ask any questions we had for our test.
She asked everyone if they had questions and made herself available for study sessions
she encouraged us to come into her office when ever we needed and she even suggested i should take a particular class because of the interest i showed on a certain topic. she also would reply to emails that normally would be ignored by most people. i appreciated that
She is a wonderful listener, and always takes the time to be available to her students.
She is available for all students that seek assistance of understanding the material.
She would make arrangements with her students to meet with them outside of class, like study groups.
she is always telling the class to come by during office hours or email her with any questions
She met with me early on and helped me figure out what I needed to do since I was going to be gone for a week. And she replied to emails I sent.
She is always wiling to repeat and always asks if anyone has any questions.
She was very quick to return and reply to e-mails that I sent to her. She always asked if we had any questions and answered as many as she could. She offered up office hours and if we couldn't make it to those she offered appointments to meet with her when it was convenient for us. She offered a study session before the exam.
she offered extra time out of the class schedule to regroup with students to verify things we might have not gotten from the reading...
She replied emails fast and answered every question, do in-class quizzes to help students to memorize.
Ms. Patz uses her free time to answer all our questions & she hosts study sessions on days which does not require her to work.
She showed great concern for the students.
She e-mailed me concerning my grade and if i needed help out of class.
Amy will meet with students beyond her office hours to help accomodate those who are unable to make the office hours. She is constantly asking for feedback from her students during lecture to make sure everyone is on the right track. She never makes you feel intimidated to ask questions, and despite how ridiculous your question might be, she explains the correct answer and laughs with you, not at you.
She answers all questions with all of her attention and constantly expresses how she is willing to help all students. She is also very available throughout the week in her office and after class.
She replies to emails really quickly and encourages students to come in her office for help.
She emailed us when in need and showed up for chat time appts.
As I mentioned before, she is involved in her curriculum and reaches out to her students on an individual level. I commend her for that.
She let me know how I was doing and made it clear that she was there for us with any questions
Replied fast to emails
She allows herself to be available to her students outside of class.
She emails us if we're not doing so well and asks if we would like to meet with her or withdraw from the class, etc.
Amy was understanding of a person's schedule and did not set any impossible workloads for the student.
She emails you if shes concerned about your grade in her class. Which I think is very nice of her.
she always made herself available
She emailed students our grades whether it was good or bad and explained how we can improve.
She showed concern by getting to know her students.

Yes, wonderful teacher. Very nice and patient
yes, If you want to now about Anatomy/Physiology and nothing else this is the class.
absolutely. she was recommended to me by my coworker, and I would do the same for anyone else.
Yes without a doubt, shes a good teacher. She give a clear and understanding way for you to learn on what shes teaching. She gives good examples, and quiz's during class to keep you up to date if you understand.
Definitely! Not sure if there is a better Zoology teacher available. I've taken Kim & Pfeffer, & she is waaaay better than either of them.
i would recommend her because of the study guides that she provides for her students. very helpful when studying for examinations because it is the summary of the most important information that need to be learned from the book (although, every information is important).
definitely. she makes anatomy and physiology fun to learn.
yes i would def recomment Amy Patz for great organization on this difficult subject, she breaks things down and all her notes and study guides are ready and if you study them it is exactly like the exam. She also gives quizzes on lecture day and it helps, she also has extra points

Yes most definitely. She created easy flowing fun class.
Yes, she is a very good instructor.
No doubt. She is the best anatomy physiology teacher and I had 2 previous a&p teachers and they were terrible.
Yes, I would because she is very organized and her teaching styles are great!
Yes, I am already recommending many of my friends to take her class because she teaches her subject very well. I was actually able to learn for myself, not just for the class or the tests. I gained new knowledge through her lectures. Her class was fun because she gives in-class quizzes and activities that make us learn and review.
Yes, great learning environment, she makes learning fun.
Yes because she makes hard material easy to learn.
I would recommend her. The extra credit is helpful, and there are no surprises on exams. You just need to study hard. and if you hate being called on in class, going isnt neccessary.
Ms. Patz is a very good teacher. She goes beyond expectations of a teacher by making me feel comfortable asking questions in class and taking time to explain material I did not understand.
Yes because her style of teaching is effective. Zoology is a very difficult subject, but the way she teaches makes me remember what I needed to learn.

Yes. Very good teacher and if you pass her class, you will know the material.
Yes, she's a great professor and very caring towards her students.
I would recommend her to anyone who really wants to learn something. I think there are easier teachers but you would not learn as much.
I would definitely recommend her to other students interested in taking this course becuase she is such a warm-hearted person and a very encouraging/informative teacher. She is one of thee best science teachers I have ever had. She keeps me alert and paying attention in class. She likes to make it fun and gives us many chances to earn the maximum number of points through in-class quizzes and some by simply filling out a survey or doing WileyPlus quizzes before we come to lecture. She has a kind smile and a very welcoming personality. She doesn't get down on you but she encourages you when you go to see her if you're not doing well. And even if you are doing well, she is more than happy to offer up her time to help you go over anything you might be wondering about or if it's just to go over the study materials before the exam.
yes i would.... just her speaking alone was very impressive....
Strongly recommend, because her class is fun to be in there, and you also can learn a lot. This is my first semester in KCC, at the beginning I don't know which instructor to choose, so I just picked the instructor who has most students. It's Mrs. Patz's class and I like my choice.
yes, because she knows this subject very well & will go out of her way to make students succeed.
Yes, I do but I would tell people that even though she is a great teacher the material covered is quite difficult.
Yes she is nice and knows her A&P well.
Yes. She teaches the beginner anatomy/physiology material very efficiently, grades fair, and student's will learn alot in this class if they put forth the effort.
Yes, she was able to relate to students better than some teachers solely based on her enthusiasm and encouragement.
Yes, she is a very kind and helpful person.
Possibly, if she change the format of the exam questions.
Yes I would recommend Amy Patz's class to other students because her class is straight forward. All you need to do is study the course material that is outline and you will do well.
Absolutely
if students where used to taking classes online then i would recommend this class for them.

Absolutely yes. She is dedicated in helping her students do well.
Yes, I did refer some friends/classmates to her for next semester (spring semester)
Yes I would recommend her, because she was such a sweet teacher, but I would more likely recommend her if she made changes to her exams/quizzes.
Yes I do. She seems like a great professor even if I didn't get to meet her in person.

I admire Ms. Patz for her equality and fairness approach.
She's a great teacher that makes a classroom much more interesting.

I really enjoyed your class, professor. I hope to have more classes with you in the future because I was focused and very motivated in your class. It really helped that you were so very encouraging to all of us and not once frowned upon us or gave us a bad vibe.
i think she should continue teaching the way that she does....
very smart & nice teacher.
I really was blessed to have her as a teacher.
Amy trys her best to make a difficult subject interesting and understandable. She helps her students with the medical terminology, and does not automatically assume that you have a huge background in such vocabulary. She offers extra credit through out the semester and does her best to make sure that all questions asked by students during lecture are addressed. She admits when she might not have the best possible answer to a student's question, and provides an answer the following class. She's always willing to go out of her way to help her students, even if it cuts into her personal time..Amy is an all around great person who knows her stuff and is eager to help others understand. She is enthusiatic about the teaching and that positive feeling encourages students to attend.
Her positive attitude is very consistent in the classroom and it allows maximum room for a student's success in the course.
That she seems like a very nice person.
Thank you for a good semester. Happy Holiday's.
I wish there were more instructors like her.
I really like how everything on the test was from the chapters study modules and i like that there was no trick questions.
Great teacher
one of the best teachers at KCC!!
She was very informative and helpful to me and probably other students as well.
Mahalo for your patience and dedication in molding minds.
very caring professor and help student every way she can

Thanks for all your support!
If I had to enroll in another A&P class I would definitely make sure Amy was the instructor.

I really enjoyed your class and am bumbed that i wasnt able to get into your 142 class.
I wish there was better cohesion in the department on how instructors are able to grade. I find it unfair that some instructors are grading tests on a curve in addition to dropping the lowest test score to replace it with an average test score of all of the tests combined; furthermore, these same instructors are giving out extra credit assignments too. It almost seems as if some students are earning their grades, and some are getting padded grades to make the professor seem favorable for evaluations such as these.
thank you so much!
I wish I could attend her Zool 142 classes for Spring 2011 :(
Thank you so much for being a great teacher and actually being able to teach the material without having us fall asleep or not being able to understand what you're saying. Thank you again and I wish you the best of luck with your future semesters and I hope to see you around on campus. You're always a friendly face and nice to see :)

Perhaps there could be a viedo stream of her teaching the other zoology classes so that there is a lecture ;)
I think she's an awesome teacher who seems to really care about her students. thanks!
maybe you should start thinking about giving out the best teachers' awards:Dv
I would recommend her to other students.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She made the labs fun and instructional.
Amy Patz was the best science teacher I have ever had. She is extremely patient and explains things in such a way that I feel that I have learned something for each class session. She is also good at taking time to make sure that nobody is left with a question after she explains something. Her explanations are very thorough and informative.
She is very clear on what she explains and very helpful and understanding toward the students.
Very organized and systematic
She is very friendly, and easy to approach.
Amy Patz ensures us that we know and understand what to do and what not to do while performing labs.
She is an expert on the human body. She knew exactly how to answer every question the class asked her. She also cares about her students and will talk to them about anything that's bothering them. I love her teaching style, putting things into clear words that I can actually understand.
She has a great way of teaching where the students can relate and grasp the material.
Very knowledgeable.
She made sure that everyone had a good understanding in lab material
organized, professional, good speaking skills.
Same as my evaluation on her lecture
Professor Patz has major strengths in everything she does. She shows concern for students 100% and is very patient with every student. There is not one time where she showed irritability or frustration. Prof. Patz was always willing to help. Another thing I loved about her was that she always had a positive attitude. I think that was what made the class fun and an environment that you want to learn in. All labs were well organized and was planned out to the T. Too bad all teachers were like her. Classes would be fun to learn in.
she knowledgeable about the subject and makes the class entertaining
She knows her material very well, she loves teaching and she always encourages all of us to take part in dissection. She goes around and made sure we have any questions or needed any help.
Well organized Very informative Very knowledgeable
She was very clear and concise in her instructions but also offered explanations to those who didn't understand. She was always available after class for any help and answered emails promptly.
Having an uplifting, encouraging mood. She interacted with the students more than most teachers do.
same as the zoo 141 lab evaluation
Being able to answer whatever question myself or others had.
She made the material as easy as possible to understand. She is very helpful with any question the students have.
Ms. Patz is very knowledgable and approachable. I never felt embarrassed to ask her a questions. She is very patient and took the time to explain and answer all of my questions.
Good speaking skills and knowledge of the course.
She explained things in a way that was easy to understand and remember. Very organized and has exam topics, notes, and power points on laulima before-hand.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
There was only one change I would suggest and that would be to space out the exams by a little bit. Other than that, the class was perfect.
To emphasize what is required to know on the anatomy slides for the exams.
Have all the quizzes at the end of the lab, so that students can absorb what they learned in lab.
If possible, an earlier class time would be much better.
No changes.

same as the zoo 141 lab evaluation
maybe give more points to the model (verbal) quizzes. Maybe 2 or 3 points would be sufficient.
Switch up groups to have different interaction between students.
For the exam topics, more specific topics may be more helpful. Sometimes it's hard to tell which part to study more on.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would talk to everyone with a very understanding patient ear and listen to our concerns and questions. I even met with her once outside of class to discuss my grade for the class and after that meeting I felt so much better about my progress.
She shows genuine interest in helping student succeed in her class and is adequately available in her office.
She updated grades very fast and allowed students to come in after exams to see where they went wrong.
Walking around to make sure that we are all going by the book or what she says (depending). Even though we read prior to class, she still goes over in detail of the steps and instructions.
I was going through a hard time this semester and she was the only teacher I had that would actually sit down and hear me out. She never rushed me out of her office or made me feel like I wasn't a smart person. I always felt encouraged and better about things after talking to her.
She made herself available to her students outside of class. She is flexible and understanding.
N/A
She taught us to work as a group with one another
same as my lecture evaluation
Prof. Patz always notified students through e-mail if any grades were posted up or if it was just a change in schedule. If she could not make it to class one day then she would notify us in advance about class being cancelled. There was never a doubt about Prof. Patz.
her availability to meet with you or to make up a class
She made sure we understood the dissection and always asked us if we needed help.
whenever we had questions Mrs. Patz was always available. she always tried to give the best explanation possible.
She always asked if everyone understood the material, and if not she explained it again.
She always offered help during office hours or via email/telephone.
same as the zoo 141 lab evaluation
By asking us if we had any questions.
Ms. Patz is easy to contact via email or phone and always responds promptly. She is flexible. For example, if you are unable to make a class, she will work with you and allow you to attend one of her other classes. If you have any questions, she will meet with you and go over any confusing material.
Always asking if we understand the models and if we have any questions.
She had office hours and encouraged us to ask more questions and asked what she could do to make it easier for us to learn. Also, she answered my emails very quickly and was very friendly even when I asked a lot of questions.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
MOST DEFINATELY! I think everyone that has the chance to take Patz should definately do so because you will leave her class knowing so much more about the body.
Yes. She teaches the material in a clear and efficient manner and offers help to all types of students.
Yes, she is very organized and easy to learn from.
Yes, Its a hard class, and requires alot of studying on the students part to do well. Mrs. Patz labs were clear and she was helpful in explaining concepts and finding anatomy.
Anyone that seeks to learn about the human body, Amy Patz is a great teacher to learn from. Her lab is exceptionally fun which especially with the people you'll work with.
I would reccomend her to others because she is a great teacher and always explains what the class is doing. Whenever I felt lost she would explain even more and then make sense of it all.
Yes, she shows great dedication to her students and their success.

Yes because she is patient and has lots of knowledge
yes, same as my lecture evalution
I highly recommend any student to Professor Patz because she is the nicest teacher you will ever know. She is 100% organized and will let you know of your grades promptly. She always had that spark to her that no other teacher has. Class is always fun when she is around. Zoology 141 Lab can be a little hard to keep up sometimes, but Professor Patz made an easier route where it was easier for the students. If you had a hard time keeping up, you could always contact her to seek help. Like what I said before, there was a never a doubt in me when I took Professor Patz. Her classes are the way to go!!
yes, her class is interesting and shes a great teacher. i love her class

Definitely!
Yes, she is very kind and caring as a teacher. She understands the course and knows how to teach well so that students actually understand the material.
Yes, I would recommend Prof. Patz, because she is friendly, and her class is very enjoyable and interesting.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is a great teacher and I am deeply sorry that I cannot take her for ZOOL142.
If all teachers were similarly as positive and efficient as her, we would have alot of well-educated people around.

She is a very good teacher.
She is able to make the learning environment fun and comfortable. She has a great ability to teach the material in a way that her students can learn well and retain the information.
Excellent teacher, if I need to take another course I'll choose her again.

Mrs. Patz ran a good lab. But the lab that is set up by KCC needs some help. Sometimes the structures on the models we had to study were labeled wrong, or not labeled at all. Much of study time is done outside of lab, when you dont have your teacher around to ask where specific things are. If these are the models we need to study for exams, then shouldnt they be at least labeled properly for us?
Thank you for being there for me.
Thanks Amy for all your support!
I feel that the resources in the lab (anatomical models) are in need of replacement. Also that room Ilima 202C is in terrible condition.
GREAT SEMESTER!! It has always been in her classes. :)
