13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Her major strengths as a teacher was her friendliness and openness to helping those who are in need of extra help or help in general. She was a very friendly professor to talk to and never made me feel intimidated.
Very good at explaining things. very clear. very organized.
She is very knowledgeable in the subject.
Patz is an excellent teacher and has good ways of engaging students during lectures.
She provided many resources which students can view and learn from.
Encourages students to her office hours Makes sure that students understand the material Very nice Knowledgable
Taking consideration for what the students have to say and making the subject interesting as she can. Also providing students with all kinds of study material.
She is very open, bright, friendly, and genuinely concerned for students success in the course.
She is really kind.
She strived to get the information well understood by her students.
She knows her material very well, even some extra info beyond class material too. She's really caring and is always willing to help students. If you cannot make it to her office times, you can email her and try to work out a nice where both of you can meet. Professor Patz is also funny when she lectures in class and uses examples that students can relate to.
She knows what she is doing.
She is very clear in her descriptions of different mechanisms, etc. She also would make a point to provide several examples of how certain things worked so that our class would have a better concept.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
Do not change.
The PBL assignments were not that helpful to understanding the material. It felt like a waste of time. Some of the exam questions were too difficult because they were on minor things that we didn't really cover enough.
No changes
The schedule for quizzes and online lecture quiz credit is convoluted. It would be easier if the quizzes were just on one or two days a week, instead of spread out so much.
none
I think we should do more problem-based learning because those are fun! It's like playing detective, sorta. The problem-based learning assignments also help me to retain the information better because it can be easily applied to someone. It's like useful information.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would always schedule extra study sessions before exams for us which was really awesome but unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the ones on campus. She also encouraged us to come and see her if we needed any extra help or if we had any questions regarding the content.
asking us any question before moving on to the next lesson. helped me understand things that werent very clear and helped during her office ours.
She is willing to meet with students outside of class to have study sessions and provides many of her own podcast which students can use to help understand the content.
She always did study sessions and checked if we had questions. She had many resources available to help us study.
Always help students when they are studying in lab. Is very clear on the subject she is teaching.
Encourges students to come to her office hours all the time
Being there for every class, doing review sessions before exams and always responding to emails quickly. She also was available outside of class most of the time!
She offered review sessions.
She was so helpful to me when I didn't understand the terms since English is my second language for me.
Did many things to help us learn about the chapters. There were lectures online and had study sessions in campus and online to help us prep for the exams.
She would constantly ask questions to the class to make sure everyone was on the same page. She would also respond through email fast. I could tell that she was more concerned about her students understanding the subject more than how much she could talk about. The more she talks the less we would understand and the more of us would've dropped her class. But because she was concerned with our understandings everyone stuck through the whole semester together and was able to pass.
She always lets us know that if we have any questions that we can always email her or talk to her in person. She's willing to work with the students. When we have our on campus review session or our online review sessions, she makes sure to ask students what time they're available so she can try to fit it into her schedule. She just has this giving attitude where she's always willing to help students.
She gave us many resources in order to prepare for the exams.
She is very approachable and made herself available to students after class and during office hours. It is obvious that she genuinely cares about her students and how well they are learning and understanding the material.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would.
yes because she makes the subject better to understand.
Yes because she is an amazing teacher who helps students understand Zoology.
Yes, but you need to be willing to do a lot of work and have a lot of time to focus on that work.
Yes, Amy is a great professor that shows concern for her students when they have trouble with the subject.
Yes, same as number 13
Definitely!!! She's the best at what she does.
Yes.
Yes
Yes. She is really kind teacher.
yes, because anatomy is a hard subject but she is willing to work with you if you fall behind.
I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend Professor Patz to any one, even people who aren't into anatomy or physiology because she's a GREAT professor to learn from and you might end up liking the material.
Yes, she knows the subject very well.
Yes, she is amazing!
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I would say that I like the organization of the class and the continuous quizzes and online lecture quizzes to help us stay on track in the course and up to date with the content being taught.
Amy Patz is an amazing teacher
She's wonderful!
I really like her class!
I wish she taught ZOOL142.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is very knowledgeable of the subject.
Explains topics clearly and easy to understand
She goes over the exam during class, gives us case studies to help us picture what it's like to be put in a situation, and I am able to understand what she saying compared to other teachers.
Able to talk to us students outside of class
Professor Amy Patz's major strengths as a teacher was being able to teach a difficult course by having many resources available for her students to refer to and use when they need it.
Prof. Patz is my friendly and organized zoology teacher. she is straight forward and clear on her lecture notes and assignments during class , She will dedicate her own time to held study session for struggling students. She also encourage group discussions so we can review and discuss about our lectures and textbook chapters. she is a student-caring,proactive and awesome educator that can proudly represent KCC as an educator role model.
she is an passionate teacher and she teaches well all the chapters and always close to us.
Knowing Anatomy very well.
Everything that was listed above.
She explains the subject really well.
Approachable, friendly, actually cares about students, how she is wiling to improvise to make the class better for students, and you can tell teaching is a passion.
Even if this was a hybrid class, she still explained each chapter in the textbook clearly. Prof. Patz knows the course really well.
Takes time to explain concept, always available to help students, strives to help the student to understand and succeed as much as possible.
She is very approachable and easy to understand and clear in her online lectures and in class. She is also very responsive to any e mails i ever needed an immediate response to.
Lectures. She excels in making lectures fun and easy to understand. She has the ability to make a student feel better after answering with the wrong answer.
She really makes the learning more enjoyable with palpating and other activities that allow us to memorize key parts of lectures for quizzes or exams. She also responds to her email promptly when her students need help with certain problems.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would eliminate of lessen the PBL assignments.
None
Sometimes i didn't understand the case studies and i feel like the animations don't help at all.
N/a
There are no suggestions I have for Professor Amy Patz.
if the information on online power points are closer to the white lecture notebook , it will more convenience for students to understand and able to study combining both power point and lecture notes together :)
If she give some more extra credit for us, it would be great. Because we have the 6 exams and finals. it makes us frustrated, if we can not get a good score. so much work to do.
Update her exam notes and power point lectures.
While I value her teaching style, I believe if Prof Patz could reach out to students more if she applies the ZOOLOGY 141 concepts to relatable and personable scenarios... otherwise I'm hearing big words transitioning to robotic terms. I understand she is being literal, I just need different concepts and examples to truly understand the terms better.
None!
If it's possible, maybe shorten the PowerPoints and make the pre-lecture quizzes and lecture quizzes worth more than just a point.
None
Teaching is a Hard job! ....Keep up the good work!
The case studies didnt help very much and they were time consuming. Took away from the real studying that should be getting done. Homework should be the big book of notes that is recommended at the beginning of the semester.
There are not much changes I could ask for, rather than a wider range of office hours that will be suitable for students that have class on a certain time during her office hours.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She made herself available to all students outside of class.
She was accessible outside of class if needed
She offers help whenever.
She always had study sessions before exams.
Professor Amy Patz showed concern for her students many times, academically. Professor Amy Patz gives a lot of her time for her students, when there's an upcoming test, she would inform us about coming to school to join the study group she has and if we aren't able to go to the campus, she also held study groups online.
For exams and studying, she give some advice how to do she let us to ask every time. she helped us for studying well.
Email and asking questions.
Prompt responses to emails.
Making sure we understood concepts and topics. Always asked if we had questions.
Prof. Patz always informed us about her office hours. She would inform us that when ever we needed help, to either email her or go to her office and talk to her.
She would always go over parts that students struggled on previous exams to ensure understanding.
She always made sure they participated. If you talk to her you can tell she is not trying to make the class fail, but rather make the material easier to digest.
She was prompt with her emails and very available outside of class hours.
She allowed us to contact her via email and kept us up to date with the exams and assignments that were due by emailing us. She also gave us strategies that would possibly help with our learning if we had a hard time following the material, which really helped a lot of students I believe.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because she is very good at teaching the subject.
Yes she is a good teacher who has a passion for the human body
Yes she is the best zoology teacher. She's more understandable and her tests are broken down into a format that we are able to understand.
Yes because she knows her material well and she does her best with helping her students
Yes, I would recommend Professor Amy Patz to students because Zoology is a difficult subject for many people. With having Professor Amy Patz as my instructor for this class, I was able to make it through with little difficulty, especially with the numerous amounts of resources she provides us to help us study and remember all the information.
yes. absolutely. She is perfect.
Yes she knows this subject very well.
Yes! She is not an easy A but you sure learn a great deal from her!
Yes, she is friendly and really good at explaining topics. She will help you understand things you are confused about.
If you are looking for a fast pace class then Prof. Patz is the instructor for you.
Yes! Great professor and is there to really help the students to succeed.
Sure! But u have to work too! she gives lots of hints on what to focus on which can be immensely helpful to not waste time memorizing the entire book but rather understand what is important and why.
As a great of a teacher she is, her exams seem to be very difficult. I feel at the end of the semester, I know a lot about the subject and yet have very little to show for it. Unfortunately there is so much material that half of what she teaches will actually translate into doing well on the exam. If it was only about the knowledge you gain, I would recommend her. Unfortunately, grades are a large part of our future as a student, and based on difficulty, I would not recommend her. I would not take her again.
Yes, I would definitely recommend Professor Patz to other students because of the interesting material covered and the constant participation needed to understand the material more effectively. She also shows so much concern for her students to understand the material and relates the material taught to situations in various medical fields.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Very good teacher.
Thank you

I've enjoyed having Professor Amy Patz as my instructor for a difficult subject because with all the resources, quizzes, and assignments, I can truly say that I've learned a lot, and will be able to refer back to it by memory.
She encourages us to keep studying on and she always tries to communicate with students.

Please reconsidering teaching for Zoology 142... we may need you!
Great professor!
She rocks.
She is a great person and a great teacher with much passion on the subject.
She is a great teacher that I would be happy to have as my Zoology 142 teacher.

Prof. Patz expects her students to read the textbook before going to class. Her lecture is really fast. Since she teacher a HYBRID class, you're pretty much on your own. Read the textbook, watch her lecture videos, and her animations. This class needs lots and lots of your time.
None
Zoo 141 is an introductory class, not a mastery class. Yet there are such high expectations for retaining all the material in this class. Its definitely overwhelming at times. I would like to see more questions of the quizzes reflect what is going to be on the chapter exam, not just throw it in there for personal enrichment.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Caring, clear, and helpful.
She knows where everything is on the human models, like she didn't have to look it up on the internet, like other professors did. She's also a good in-lab professor when we were dissecting the models. It didn't seem like she had a hard time identifying any of the organs, tissues, etc. Not only does she know her material well and loves teaching, but she has this willingness to help students succeed, whether in her class or in life.
She is very nice and will take the time to help you, what more could you ask for in a teacher?
Her ability to explain difficult subjects.
She is an excellent instructor who makes sure everyone is on the same page and understands.
She is very knowledgeable.
Well organized, knowledgeable, caring, hard working, persistent, encouraging, engaging, flexible
she is really knowledgeable on her anatomy and human part models, she will use friendly , easy to understand terminology during lecture to encourage us to learn and understand every experiences, she's super patient with foreign student ( like myself) and always take extra time to explain many times to us some hard zoology concept. I personally believe that she is an highly dedicated and caring educator.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
We should have more dissections!
Regarding the course, its SOOOOOOOOOOO much work for a 1 credit course. It's pretty ridiculous. If I'm expected to work my butt off to learn this much material, make the course worth more than one credit.
I would make more optional assignments to make up for the exams.
I think she should grade the creative images less strictly.
None.
NOTHING!!! she's amazing
stem center had a shortage of certain models ( brain models, eye models), we need to take turns to look at the models during caring or even study after class at STEM center.(which is really inconvenient)
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She made it fair and is understanding.
She's always flexible in meeting with students if they cannot make it to her office hours. She always lets us know that if we have any questions that we can always email her or talk to her in person. Also, one time I was at the stem lab late at night with my friend and we were reviewing the body models for our final exam and she stopped by the stem lab inside to see if me or anyone else in our group needed help. I don't know any professor who would willingly do that, especially late at night. I think she had a meeting that ended late, but even yet, it was very considerate of her to drop by. It shows that she really cares for her students and wants to help them as much as she can. She's one of the BEST teachers around KCC!
She showed concern by helping and answering our questions. She's very knowledgeable.
He has a big variety of available times as in instructor.
She was always there to answer questions and help us.
Mrs. Patz was very open to helping students during class. She was open to meet outside of her office hours and actually that's what I loved about her. Class time was very limited since we only met once a week and she had 20 other students to help, but she took time out her busy schedule to help me prepare for the exam
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, her course is simple and organized.
I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend Professor Patz to all the students because she's a GREAT professor that everyone should take. The lab class is pretty fun too!
YES! Patz and Shook are awesome teachers!!
Prob not. She has some lofty expectations from her first year zoo students.
Yes, she is a very present instructor who cares about her students' learning.
Totally. She knows a lot.
Absolutely!!!!! She's the best teacher for anatomy and physiology. Her explanations are so clear and she won't move on until you completely understand the material.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I wish she was teaching ZOOL142L.
none.
She deserves a recognition. Do not quit/resign.
Mrs. Patz is the best anatomy and physiology teacher I've ever had. I dropped my previous 141 Lab class and signed up for her class instead and that would the best decision I ever made. Mrs. Patz made me LOVE GOING TO SCHOOL. I was excited to get up in the morning and attend her class. And after her class is over, I get reminded of how much I love school and it's because of her. Thank you so much.
18. Other comments:
The creative image assignment was counterproductive. Its intention was to help the students by drawing, however it was graded with such rigorous standards I found most students did the absolute bare minimum to avoid getting counted off for silly clerical/artistic mistakes. IN the end it was just an assigment that go in the way of time that could ahve been used to study.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is always available when a student needs help and her method of teaching is easy to understand if you try.
Since Zool 141 is a harder subject to learn and understand she made it easy for the students to understand the material.
Very nice Knowledgable Helpful
Very concise and tries very hard to ensure all students are well-informed and prepared for labs.
she help student when they don't understand what their doing
Good at explaining things
Amy Patz's is a really great teacher who is very nice and shows a lot of concern for her students. She also cares about you understanding the content.
She knew her material, and it was easy to discuss concerns regarding assignments.
She knows her subject very well and always tells us to ask any questions if we are confused.
She is very knowledgeable in this subject.
Very encouraging.
Amy is accessible to students, flexible and willing to help explain things.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None, the course was very informative and challenging, but not impossible.
Maybe a few more minutes at each exam station.

nothing i can think of at the moment.
No changes.
I only had Amy for lab and not for lecture. It seems on tests and quiz's that there is a disconnect for those of us not in her lecture class. Often On exams, I would encounter questions for things we that we had not covered in lab or that my lecture class had not covered yet. On quiz's I also encountered questions that had answers not covered in the background information we were told to review. It's very confusing, and did not help in my overall learning experience.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would e-mail us if we missed a class, and she would always reply to any emails or questions.
We always received email reminders about the next lab or exams. It was very helpful in remembering what to bring to class.
Helps students with whatever question we need help with
Explained lab procedures as clearly as possible to ensure no student was lost
she helps them when they have probably understanding certain part of the labs and tells them to meet her in her office if they have any question. also she give us heads up when we have a quiz or lab earlier so we can study or bring the material to class.
She made sure we understand a topic before moving on to another section. She also encouraged us to go to her office or email her
She also wanted to make sure that we knew the content and knew what we were looking for during dissections as well as class experiments.
Always pushed us to ask questions.
She offered to see students during her office hours.
She would go around the room throughout the lab and ask questions as well as check up on the status of students.
Always asked students if they need help.
Amy always checks in with her students during lab to make sure student questions are addressed. She also reminds everyone of her office hours.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend Amy to anyone because she is a lovely woman. She really does care about her students and if the students are willing to apply themselves, they will have a good time. It was a great class and a wonderful way to start zoology.
I definitely would because she is an amazing professor.
Yes, same as number 13
Yes. Makes labs very easy to understand and material less overwhelming
yes because she knows what she's doing and its easy to understand her class
Yes. She is good teaches very clearly
Yes I would
Yes because she explains clearly.
Yes, zoology is a hard subject and she uses different ways to help us learn and make the concepts a little more easier.Using the experiments to relate to what is learned in the lecture course.
Yes, she teaches well and is helpful in understanding the different structures of the body.
No, at least not for lab.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Amy goes above and beyond when it comes to her students, she is one of the best teachers I have the pleasure to have here at KCC. Keep doing what you are doing Amy, you are doing a wonderful job.
I think that the way she approaches each topic that we had to do for lab was great. I really understood why we were doing experiments. I also enjoyed the mini quizzes during the models because it helped me study better by putting them in sections.
she's a really good teacher and considerate of the students
Great teacher! Learned a lot
She's one of the best zoology teachers and will always encourage you that it's always okay and cares about you understanding biology.
Great teacher, i learned a lot in her class.
She's very friendly and positive!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She really cared about the students and very open to responding quickly to emails.
Very Helpful! and willing to help!
This is my second time taking this class because my major degree had a time limit. My first time taking the subject I cried on every exam because the subject was so intense. Taking the class with professor Amy Patz made the subject more interesting and more enjoyable to study. She engages the students and she doesn't make us feel stupid about nonsensical questions we ask.
Knowledgeable in A&P. Great lecturer. Thinks of awesome mnemonics to help with remembering certain material. Considers change by asking our opinion on certain assignments and teaching methods. She actually tried something different this semester than last semester and I appreciated how she took her students concerns seriously and actually did something.
Her enthusiasm of the subject. Seems like she knows her subject very well and enjoys it a lot.
Ms. Patz strengths as a teacher is that she made up mnemonics to help the students retain that abundant amount of information that is being taught to us.
Helpful, concerned, caring, and extremely enthusiastic.
Knows the subject and teaches very well to students. Really is a great professor.
Availability, positive attitude, humor.
-Extremely helpful -Encouraging -Interested on teaching her students the material
Amy may have been the best teacher I have ever had. She was knowledgeable
She is an amazing teacher, always available for help. she explained things to where you can understand them.
way of teaching is organized and clear
Amy Patz's ,ajor strength as a teacher is that she knows her material well. She doesn't teach straight out of the book and that allows her flexibility during her lectures.
Professor Patz's major strengths were one of them is her style of lecturing, because the way she lectures each chapter, with her tone she makes it sound exciting and she sometimes uses terms or phrases that she makes up that are fun/funny which makes her students remember.
She is very enthusiastic and passionate about teaching! She always has a positive attitude and I think that she genuinely wants every student to succeed.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
none
Returned grading for some assignments took longer than expected.
Base class lectures on material that will be on exam. I studied some things more than others and it was completely not on the tests. Maybe spread out PBL cases by maybe introducing it earlier and if it can not be spread out take it down to 2 cases only. I enjoyed doing it but it also got hard when we had to do a pbl and exam due the same week. Maybe update some online lectures. Some had dead air time and a lot of blanks in between with minor flubs. Nothing major but just a suggestion.
Lessen on the online lectures and give more of a detailed study guide.
-
You have too much work for a hybrid class, its extremely hard to balance the case studies, quizzes, animations and other stuff when all you want to do is focus and study the subject because of the minimal time you have (because of work and also other classes you are taking). If possible giving students the choice to look at online lectures, they will if they find a need for it. All the resources given are great and helpful but not everyone has time to focus on just this one class.
Online presentations could be better organized and more precisely presented. Blackboard program is kind of cumbersome so if something better is available that would be great.
None
I would really like to have had all of the PBL as homework instead of classwork, just because Amy's lectures in class were so good and I benefited from being able to participate in the interactive "Stop and Think" sessions. I wonder if it would be possible to set up an optional PBL section for the class (an additional meeting time for both sections of the blended class) so we could have both lecture and time to work with the PBL? I think it is a good way to learn but I'm not convinced it fits well in a lower-level course that is designed around a traditional lecture timeline. I liked her solution for the last PBL in which the class members were able to choose whether to work in groups or to do the PBL as homework, I thought that was an excellent way to do the PBL.
No changes, everything is great.
I kind of wish she would allow the final exam to be an option of in class or online because it is a loot of convenient for me to take it online as I live a far away from kcc.
Just a little slight change on the deadlines of the assignments, which she did from the 2nd half of this semester. Maybe do the changes in the beginning of future semester.
None. Keep up the great work!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She asked what day would be good to do a review for each test and even does online reviews.
She would give us study session which is taking time off her day
Good listener and very flexible with students. Sometimes we have no control over our external environment or things that go on around us and Professor is very accommodating to helping you make things work if possible.
She would take polls and ask for positive and negative feedback after certain assignments. She even changed some due dates to see if that will help certain students more. She also held online and campus study sessions for exams which were extremely helpful. You could also schedule an appointment to visit her to see your grades and exams to see what questions you missed.
She made sure to inform us that she's available during her office hours.
Ms.Patz tried to get back to the students as quick as possible via email. Although I know she is a busy lady she would try to respond as soon as possible.
She is approachable, understanding, and really helpful.
She would help no matter what, giving study session before all exams, she made sure you fully understand the subject!!
By being available and positive.
She had approached every student during class to answer any questions and made sure we were on the right track.
She arraigned study sessions for each test, both in-person and online, provided study guides and notes, and even set up polls to find the optimal time for study sessions. I really appreciated the time she took to set these up, and also the effort she made to communicate office hours and allow us to look at our errors on tests. Even the time she took to find and share answers on the top 5 most missed questions for every test - that is a fantastic way to help students, she really did a lot.
She understood the busyness of different students and understood them. extended deadlines so that we could meet the criteria.
she allows student turn in work late with valid excuse, responds to email promptly
She showed concern for the students by having online study sessions a day or couple days before the exams.
If a student was confused or lost on a topic or assignment, she really helps her students, also by responding to the emails right away.
She shows concern for students in many ways. For example she always has a positive attitude and reminds students that she is there to help.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because she is very open to students and she will help you understand.
yes because everything about her is great!
Yes. She is down right the best Zool prof I've had.
Yes. Even though this is a hybrid class She is a great lecturer. She knows this stuff pretty well. Her online lectures really help since you can listen to them over and over.
Yes she is a good teacher and is very nice to students. She cares for students concerns.
Yes I would recommend her to other students because she knew how to teach her course and it her teaching made it easier for me to understand the material.
Yes, she update the grade book and is a fair grader.
Yes if you have time and are possibly taking only one class.
Yes. Because she's a pretty cool person who does her job as an instructor pretty well and you can learn and do well in her class. Also, she is not Timothy Brilliande, the worst teacher I have ever seen in a classroom anywhere and an absolute embarrassment, actually an insult to KCC as an educational institution. I dropped him last summer after one class because I keep on my toes but sadly I just heard a horror story about this semester from a girl in my lab section. How has that guy not been fired? He doesn't care about people or learning and discourages students passively by being being a poor instructor and actively by being a jerk to people who understandably suffer in his courses. Do something!!!
Yes, because she is respectful and a fair grader. Also, her lectures are well prepared.
Absolutely. She will try to work with students and their schedules without detracting from the rigor of the course, and she is very kind and polite even when she lets a student know that she cannot do something due to class or school policy.
Yes!!! she is always available, make time to help you out when you dont understand the assignments on campus or via e-mail.
yes, she teaches the material in an effective way
I would only recommend her class if they're willing to study on their own a lot since this is a hybrid class. It's not as much self studying as a full time online class but it's still more than a regular face to face lecture class.
I would definitely recommend professor Patz, because even though it is a hybrid class, you can really learn and understand the concepts by the way this class is fully set up. Sometimes it can be good to learn things on your own because it helps you gain experience of being independent and learning things by yourself.
Yes, this is a difficult subject to learn and professor Patz will help you obtain the information in an effective and efficient manner.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
very helpful and kind Professor
I want her to teach the second Zool!
Great instructor.
Enthusiastic about teaching the material.
Thank you.
She is one of the best teachers at KCC.
Giver her tenure immediately, and be sure to pay and benefit her well enough to keep her at KCC, she is an asset to the school.
She is really awesome teacher, would highly recommend her.
I just would like to thank you to professor Patz for a great semester, I may have not fulfill my major goals of this class (to get an A grade), but hopefully if I do good in the final my second goal (to get a better grade from my first attempt for this class).
I took her hybrid class and thought I would hate it, but ended up loving it. If you must take this course, take it with professor Patz!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Ms. Patz is knowledgeable of the material, and makes learning extra very fun. She is very easy to follow.
The way she's super energetic as she teaches and she shows passion when she teaches too.
She is easy to talk to and understanding.
She presented the class and course material very well which provided for an easy learning environment.
She was very enthusiastic about the subject, which made the class very enjoyable.
She's very helpful and really tries to make the material as easy as possible since this is a tough course.
Helpful for PBL assignments, exams, and in sections that I wasn't sure of. Organized our class schedule and gave us exact due dates on a colander which really helped. Communicated effectively by giving us a mid-term evaluation so we could put our input into the overall experience of her class so if there any things that we didn't like we could inform her and she was able to fix or solve the problem.
She is very approachable and helpful. She wants everyone to do well in the class and is willing to help in any way she can. She makes the information easier to grasp and understand by relating it to every day life.
Preparing students for testing
Being able to have patience while teaching the subject. I barely manage to understand science as it is, but this class helped me understand it just a little more than usual!
Her openness to help her students
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
N/A
I think maybe she could make test times open within a week instead of having the two days of option to take her test.
NA
Not to have a hybrid class. It felt really crammed.
I wish the class wasn't a hybrid class, so if she could change that, it would be great!
None, she is a great teacher and gives out her own evaluations so she could fix or solve class lectures.
I would suggest having feedback prior to turning in the case report as well as giving the thursday class equal amount of days to turn in the assignment.
Spacing out the work being due would help tremendously. I found myself under pressure a lot of times because I wouldn't be feeling good sometimes and I would have to drag myself and manage to finish up the assignment/quiz before I can even take a break to get better. It didn't help that sometimes the quizzes/assignments were back-to-back.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She is accessible to students during non-instructional time. Throughout every chapter discussions, she would ask the class if we have any questions, or if anything is not clear and she will go over it again.
She asks students always during the class as she goes through the material if we don't understand just ask and she will be gladly happy to answer.
She always asked if we had any questions and we could always stop by her office if we need extra help.
She offered study sessions before each exam which greatly helped us
She always assured us that we could see her during her office hours if we had questions, concerns, or wanted to review or test with her.
She tried to make the material more of a hands on experience for students.
She gave out a mid-term evaluations so she could form her class lectures around students feedback. Very helpful whenever we have questions. Always replied in an efficient manner.
She wanted everyone to do well in the class and was always willing to help as much as she could. She made time for her students prior to class as well as outside of class.
By being open for students who need the extra help on the subject and constantly checking around to make sure the students got the help they need.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because even though 141 is a hard course, she makes every lecture easy and entertaining.
Yes, why I already told my friends and they ar taking her. She's just awesome she makes learning fun but she relates it in ways to things you never thought could relate to in real life which makes the learning experience easier for me.
YES. She is an awesome professor.
Yes, because she is a great and nurturing teacher who has set up a great way of learning for the students
Yes, I enjoyed her class that's why. And she is very kind.
Yes, she genuinely wants to help student understand the class.
Yes, because she is a very organized instructor and knowledgeable. Even though her class is a hybrid I was still able to learn at my fullest potential because she had very informative online lectures.
Yes. I learned a lot from the class and I've had a great experience taking her class compared to other teachers. She really cares about her students and offers extra credit opportunities that help throughout the semester. She's passionate about the subject but she knows what she's talking about.
Definitely! Science isn't my best subject and may be my worst subject, but at least now I was able to understand science a little more!
Yes, she was helpful, stated the subject matter clearly and held study groups for the tests.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Brilliant professor, clear on her subject, and very approachable.
Keep doing what your doing and I now understand why everyone says your the best zoology teacher to take this subject with.
Thanks for the knowledge.
She had a very upbeat personality.
She is a great teacher, one of the best I had so far. Even though I am having a hard time at understanding the material she has a lot of resources that I am able to use that will help me for her exams.
I really enjoyed her class and I hope she would teach zool 142.
Great and kind teacher!

As a teacher Professor Patz is good at planning out the schedule of the course. This course is knows to be extremely difficult and we learn a lot within such a limited amount of time. I think she did a good job at aligning everything up for us to be successful. She provided us with some extra credit, a lot of resources, study session opportunities, and everything worked well together.
Very informative and nice
She really knows the material and she finds ways to help students in any way that she can
She is passionate about Anatomy and dedicated to presenting the material in an effective manner.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I suggest that the assignments online to be changed to midnight because some students such as myself work past 10 p.m. and will miss out on points.
She should lecture more in class and focus on the material because it is hard to know what she wants to know on the tests.
N/A
nothing much if any thing she made the adjustments a long time ago.
Nothing.

Don't teach hybrid courses. It is more fun to be sitting in class and listen to her inside the classroom. More information learned that way
no changes
Less required course delivery methods, redundancy is not for everyone.
It would just be to fix the online lecture videos so that there arent so many pauses and they are more straight forward
Perhaps more time on helping students understand how to study the material better. For example, it would have helped me if she had given me certain ideas about how to memorize and learn the subject material, i.e. like using flashcards, as a random example.
Make the quizzes worth more points. I also didn't get much out of the wileyplus animations.
I didn't enjoy the animations since it didn't really help me for tests.
Nothing really too bad her class was so much independent
There is not really anything I think needs changing.
None
I would suggest that they change the fall semester and let Ms. Patz teach Zool 142 :)
None.
None
No changes necessary, she creates a learning environment which all different kinds of learners are able to understand.
Have the exam questions more clear
I wish it wasn't a hybrid course.
Maybe a more thorough study guide?
Nothing, she's a great teacher and makes a difficult subject easier to understand.
None.

Great teacher. A lot of work, but I learned the material better that way.
She is a very good teacher because she knows her study area and she really cares about her students.
Thanks for an interesting semester you made me really love anatomy & physiology.
I would like say, she made this class fun and enjoyable. As a result, I was more likely to learn.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mrs. Patz encourages a brilliant and positive learning environment. I also enjoyed how well she understands her topics and demonstrations she did in front of class. Great teacher.
She let's us study at our own pace and is available for help when needed.
Good teaching habits. She makes students WANT to learn.
She's the best professor I've ever had.
Professor Patz is extremely nice and caring, but she also knows how to be a professor and gain respect from her students. She was easy to follow and learn from.
Very knowledgeable on the subject and always willing to go the extra mile to help students who need it.
She has a great way of teaching material of the human anatomy. She allows us to be hands on with the models in class, and she answers all of our questions. When doing an experiment, she explains exactly what we need to do, and she explains why we are doing such experiments.
She is willing to help students when they needed it, she is very understanding, she is patient, and she knows how to teach well.
Good communication
Very well spoken and explains the subject matter very well
It really looked like she cared for her students and tried to be of help.
- Clear - Time Management - Quizes
Her lectures are clear, and she comes around to help.
She made the labs interesting by having creative activities.
-She knows her study area. -she is very helpful and understanding
She knows the subject well when students needed help with a certain question
She is fair and gives you enough information about the subject. She also goes over the subject in plenty of detail and gives enough time for assignments
Was clear and the class was fun.
She is organized and knowledgeable about the topic! She devotes many hours to her work and her students.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
If I could suggest anything it'd be to update the models with correlation to the online stem center models available. It was challenging to find something on computer but not have it listed or marked correctly on actual lab model available.
None.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
There were occasions where I couldn't leave work because I work in EMS. Mrs. Patz made available to me the following labs and classes I could participate in when I was available to make up work and labs when I needed to.
She answers all our questions, and constantly checks up on us to see how we are doing.
Made sure students turned in work on time or at all.
Professor Patz never hesitated to assist or accommodate her students as long as could in her capacity.
Always offers help to students outside of class, reminds students if they are not doing so well in class, and always has plans for students to get their grade right.
She offers help outside of class especially before exams.
She did her quizzes where she made sure each person knew the material so not just one person in the group would do all the work. She also would answer all questions via email and in person.
Explaining very well if someone didn't understand
She was very involved and was passionate about the subject
Sending out E-mails of concern. And holding study sessions on her own time for us.
Always asked if any student had questions
She's available to answer questions.
she always went around the room and asked if we were doing okay. she would make sure to answer any questions that you had. If she didnt know the answer she wouldnt give you a fake answer, she would look up the answer and give you a correct one.
-she would always ask every group in the class if we need help and she tries to explain things by making it easier to understand.
Include students to participate in questions/discussion
She is helpful and is always availible after to class for help. If we have a lot of questions with a particular assignment she is always there to help.
Helped students when needed and emailed everyone to inform you on tests.
She made sure she was available to meet with anyone even if they couldn't come during normal office hours.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I like how she explained everything even if we don't meet the usual 2 times a week. Through her online presentations, I was able to understand her lessons clearly.
Her comprehension of the course material made it easy for the student to understand because she could explain the material in less intense manner making material stick a lot easier
Good at applying the study to real life, provided variety of study methods for different learning styles
Amy Patz is wonderful at keeping students engaged in the course material both inside and outside of class.
She's always up for answering any questions we may have and she keeps the class interested in the subject and information she is going over.
She provided a lot of ways to help students learn the course.
She understands the subject very well.
Amy used different tools to help teach students. she helped make it easy to understand and was able to explain it in a different way if we didn't understand the book.
Awesome teacher. Her hybrid method is a something new to me but very effective.
Amy Patz has good energy which makes the environment conducive to learning. I enjoyed the in class and recorded lectures because I felt that she was passionate about what she was talking about.
she's very knowledgeable about the course being taught.
The energy she puts into the online lectures, in class encouragement of participation, and involving our interest in topics when preparing for tests
Knowing materials and being open minded and never letting people feel non-intelligent.
Mrs. Patz knows the topic she teaches very well. She trys to make her lecture class fun to teach.
Always available! Knows the subject very well.
Amy Patz's major strengths were that she was a nice teacher who is caring and very likable. She is also an organized teacher which is also a plus. Her emails were replied promptly and they were usually very helpful and clear.
Amy Patz major strengths is in her knowledge of the material but also the dedication and time she gives and makes for her students. She is one of the few teachers i have come across throughout my college career where she puts so much time and great effort on getting her students the help they need to not only learn and digest the material but also to make it interesting than oppose to the traditional way of learning. You can see what i mean in her assignments, there are many ways in learning the subject and so much ways of getting extra credit, and the fact that some of those assignments she would have to go over individually/personally with over 40+ students and still able to make time to provide off class online study session, be able to communicate quickly, and always willing to listen and take time to address concerns of her students. She is a great teacher and i cant express it enough how great she is. Overall, her dedication, passion, knowledge, and personality, makes her a great teacher!!
Her strengths as a teacher is flexibility and listening when students need help.
she is a great teacher and amazing in helping.
All around, Professor Patz is a professional, well organized, concerned, and respectable professor. The course material was always presented to us in a timely and accessible manner.
Her strengths are that she explains the material very well and put it in ways you can understand.
Well organized, very enthusiastic about the subject
Everything she did. She had outside class information like power points, live chats for studying, the lecture notebook that was extremely helpful, in class stop and thinks, the discussions we had were straight to the point and there was never time wasted.
She brings a great attitude to the class very energetic. Extremely accessible outside of class especially holding study sessions.
She is very clear, enthusiastic, and is good at explaining complex things.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The only change I would like is maybe to give out a sample of the exam. I remember doing this in one of my classes. It would help a student to keep on practicing.
none.
NA
N/a
I do not suggest any changes.
More points on assignments and quizes would be helpful for students to learn more because it's worth more.
don't use the blackboard online lectures program, it is helpful but i don't like the program, wileyplus worked best for me. if you forget to post something, either cancel it or just do it for bonus points.
The testing days being consistent with lecture days did not work well for me. I did not feel as prepared for the next lecture if I took the test in the morning before class.
would be nice if she can curve examination grades especially if the whole class failed an exam;)
I would suggest that we would mainly stick to class discussions instead of PBL cases in class because it takes a lot of time away fro our learning.
No more tricky questions. Less exams if possible. I felt as if this was 2 classes put together.
Maybe have more class days, instead of one class per week.
NONE
The changes I would suggest to Amy Patz is to probably make deadlines a little later and make animations worth more points. The animation activities were actually not much help so maybe consider doing something different with or getting rid of it. There are some times where there are different due dates for things which confuses up things with other classes, like a quiz due Monday Wednesday Friday, and the next week just Wednesday.
Nothing, Stay the way she is. She is a great teacher!!!
There is a lot of material to cover and because majority of our grades count towards our tests, maybe less work load in terms of pre-lecture quizzes and case studies so that we can better focus on material.
Just more class time
Nothing, this class was very easy to follow along because of how Mrs. Patz presented it. She has a lot of extra work like quizzes and animations that really help with studying.
Because we only met once a week for a little over an hour maybe summarize key points over each chapter especially if they are going to be on the exams.
Too many assignments and due dates. Assignments should be due during the week and not on weekends (animations).
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By answering e-mails as soon as she can even though I know she has a busy schedule. She is also able to answer questions that we may have in our mind before we even ask.
she was readily availible and she held also online study sessions through blackboard which made her more accessible.
Many exam study sessions, available to answer questions
I felt that she took the time to learn our names and would speak to us about our exam and homework grades to see if we needed help studying or improving our grades.
She emails you if she knows you're having a difficult time and she wants to arrange for meetings to better you.
She showed concerns by giving extra credit to students.
She makes sure students are paying attention by doing stop and thinks. Responds to email quickly.
she was easy to get in contact with if we needed help. she helped students when they had problems. if they missed the test deadline, she would allow them to still take it but at a different time.
Amy promptly answered my emails whenever I had any issue. She changed due dates when she felt we needed it and she also did online study sessions - which were a great asset to have.
she took time out of her busy schedule to go over and ask questions prior to exam
email notification, the frequent updates on laulima, seeing us outside of class, holding study sessions
Study sessions and e-mails.
She reminds us if some assignments are due through e-mail.
Amy Patz showed concern for students by providing us with feedback on our exams and offered us one on one sessions going over our exams. She also showed concern by offering us study sessions out of her own time to help students prepare for the exams. I like how she asked students for a preferred time for the sessions, and also she wanted the students who weren't able to participate in the study sessions before give her a time they wanted so they could attend.
She was able to voice out any problem or mistake to everyone in class or through email, and if students had concerns she would go above and beyond to address any concerns students may have either in class, through email, or in her office. If their where any discrepancies on certain information or material she would immediately address it through her students so that misinformation wouldn't happened.
She took the time to help the students review for the exams.
She always gets back to her students via email, in class, during office hours, even outside of class.
She always emails our class about important information.
willing to be flexible with individual students who could not take test at previously planned times due to.
She would always email you back within the same day. She made time for us during office hours, and would talk to us during class if we needed help she would explain it until we understood.
She provided study review days before the exams and would encourage students to attend office hours.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. Because her online lectures can definitely help a student memorize and understand the lessons with accuracy and great speed.
yes, she is a very knowledgeable and fair teacher who truly cares for her student's learning and well- being. Very understanding of situations we, as college student might have during the semester.
Yes, it is almost impossible to not find one method of learning that you can do well with in this class.
Yes, she is great at presenting the material in a practical manner and thorough when addressing student questions and concerns.
Yes. I enjoyed learning the materials presented by prof. Patz and the way they were presented. I also enjoyed working in groups.
I would recommend professor Patz to students because she provides a good learning environment and a lot of help just to make the course better to understand.
Yes, because she is a good teacher and knows her subject very well.
yes! she was one of my favorite professors! i wish she would teach 142! :]
Very much yes.
yes, she is very easy going and friendly. I enjoyed her method of teaching.
Yes, Very nice teacher who understands the human body.
Yes she not only knows her material her presence while teaching is welcoming to a learning student who may be overwhelmed by the material
Yes, she is a knowledgeable professor. Has a new born child, but still manages her students professionally.
Yes
Yes I would recommend Amy Patz to students because she really cared for the learning of her students. It's just that you need to learn most of the things on your own and relate them in your own ways especially in the hybrid class. I would also recommend her because she provides lecture notes and study sessions which really help on exams, the biggest portion of our grade.
YESS!! i would its alot of work, and time but its worth learning the material, like a, live, eat, breath a&p kind of thing especially if your going into any medical field from healthcare, PT, EMT, RC, nursing, its better to be immersed in it and be able to apply it to your life so that it will come naturally once your actually in a program, nursing school or already in the field. i know other professors out there that teach the same subject and you basically dont learn anything, its just a download a study guide, come to class and hear me say the answers then take it. If dont want to learn anything take that and suffer later on. BUT if your really wanna be prepared, want to learn the subject/material and really serious about a&p, but also to enjoy it, and actually have a way to feel like in the field where you actually have case studies to address illnesses of certain patients and what not then this is the class for you! TRUST ME!! TAKE THIS CLASSS!!, TEACHER IS GREAT, AWESOME AND THE SUBJECT COULDN'T GET ANY BETTR, WELL WORTH THE SEMESTER, FIRST YEAR STUDENTS I RECOMMEND YOU TAKING THIS CLASS, AS IT WILL PREPARE YOU FOR NOT ONLY 142, BUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE IN THE FUTURE IN THE HEALTH FIELD.
Yes, she is understanding and flexible. She goes out of her way to meet the students needs. She even agreed to doing an online study session for the students who can't make it on campus for the regular study session.
I would recommend professor Patz because she really helps her students learn and retain her course material.
Yes, I would recommend her because she cares about our learning and she is a great instructor.
Yes. She keeps the class interesting, gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
DEFINITELY. She is the best professor I have ever had the opportunity to have me in class. She is awesome and teaches this material so well and is always there when you need help.
Yes, but maybe not in the hybrid format because the workload and is excessive with having to do online assignment, blackboard audio lessons, online power points was too much.
Maybe. Her courseload is much more intense than the other professors'.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
We can go through a lot of many parts of a chapter in just a matter of an hour and fifteen minutes with her brief but clear teachings.
She was a great teacher and her hy-brid class made learning more accessible and efficient.
She has a great smile!
She is very easy going, yet she'll get her point across.
She is very versatile at teaching which makes a her a good professor.
Good job.
overall, she's a great teacher..
Thank You!
She is great.
I would like to say that the quizzes were annoying to do but the extra credit points it provides really helps with my grade. I would like you to also maybe go over the lecture notes and study topics to help with your students studying. The narrated powerpoints were not really enjoyable yet it was helpful. The lecture notes definitely are helpful.
Mrs. Patz, thanks for a great semester!, thanks for all the support, encouragement, and extra effort you given to not only me but every individual student you had, you go above and beyond what you do as a teacher, to not only make sure that your students get the material, and be able to apply it to there lives but you also provide fundamentals in your lectures and material to not only make learning fun, but also to make students enjoy and love the field that they will soon get in too. It is great to have you as a teacher!!
She always projected a willingness to teach her students despite how many of us there are. She is very well organized and provides materials to her students that are easily accessible to us. She makes her students feel like they are learning in a professional environment and always had a positive attitude. Even though the course had a heavy workload because she is a great professor it encouraged her students to challenge themselves by completing that work load.
She is awesome!
Teach ZOOL 142!!! :)
I thought the online lecture powerpoints were the most helpful resource for the class.
18. Other comments:
Thank you for a great semester.
I like the "stop and think" questions, because they make me think for myself and confirm that I retained whatever was just covered. I learn well with prelecture quizzes, animations, and PBL's, but least with online lectures/quizzes because it is hard to keep focused on long lectures after a long day at work or school. It may just be my preference. Maybe other people learn just as well with online lectures.
NA
course is hard but mrs. amy patz is very helpful...
Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the valuable knowledge.
This class was not one of my favorites but still I needed the credit. The material content were sometimes overwhelming and hard to understand. But in the end it is taught by a professor who cares. Thank you for the knowledge you have shared and given to me.
Awesome teacher! Thank you SO much!!!

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
There's not much to change.
None
I wish questions weren't so tricky and that we only focused on what was going to be on the exams. Not everything in general and figure out what will be on the exams.

Class is fine as it is

More time on brain models
I suggest that Professor Patz to promote student interactions as well. In every lab, students should have different group members.
Nothing comes to mind
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
During lab, she always walked around to see if we have any questions. She always always mentioned her office hours and if we ever needed help she's there.
She invited me to her later lab class to make up for a missed class. I know not every teacher would do that.
She allowed for students to visit her during her office hours to discuss anything about exams that were just taken to further explain the subject to them.
E-mails and fast response times.
Always askes if anything is confusing and explains until students understands.
She helps us with questions we have.
Some of the questions that came up from time to time were sort of silly but she really took the time to answer everyone's questions and explain thoroughly without judgement.
She has hours open to go over with us grades and exam questions
She would be available during her office hours if there were any questions about anything concerning an assignment or exam.
She always makes time to help students inside and outside of class in a way that makes you feel more confident about the material. SHe is the reason why I am doing so well.
She constantly asked if we had any questions or needed help.
She actually sent me a powerpoint from her lecture class to help me study when i asked for some outside help. She always answers emails promply and is available to help study outside of office hours as well.
Helps us at the parts of the model we dont know.
Professor Patz checks every group how they are doing often during labs. She also tells us always ask questions whenever we have questions.
She e-mails her students about the time you take your test and what is due.
She was available for questions during office hours and after class. Helpful with clarifying questions on course content.

Thank you. It was fun in the class.
She is very nice and I wish she taught more classes that I needed so I could have her as a teacher again.
She is friendly and easy going. Very approachable and doesn't show anger or any negative feelings toward anyone despite what they may do. I am glad she was my first instructor for zoology.
Good job
I had fun in lab! I hope you continue doing this for many more years
I wish more teachers were as dedicated and well versed as she is.
Overall, she is one of the best professors that I've had. This class wasn't an easy one, but she did a good job at covering the material and also makes time outside of class to help students when needed.
I really enjoyed taking her class. She was very understanding and helpful.
Nothing
I would like Professor Patz for being an amazing teacher.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She gives mini lectures, which are interesting. Plus, she is helpful and encourages her students to study for her exams. Lastly, her handouts, study guides, and animation worksheets are online in Laulima. This is very convenient for the students.
She gave lots of resources for us to utilize throughout the semester. She always posted on laulima and sent out e-mails. And in the second we suggested we needed more lectures or anything, she was always ready to switch her schedule around to accommodate the class.
she knows A&P very well and gives her students everything needed to learn the material effectively. she is one of my the best teachers i've had since high school.
She knows the material really well and if there's any question we have that she can't answer, she always looks it up and gets back to us. Also, I like that she's really organized and has a bunch of resources to help us really get the material. The chapter notes and study guides are super helpful.
She is passionate about the subject, therefore, conveys material very well. She is fair and very informative with assignments and deadlines. She will go out of her way to help you get what you need to learn the material and do well in her class. She takes time to create learning material outside of just the textbook.
Her knowlege about the subject and she encourages the students to move up their grades.
she would keep an open mind for students print out assingments for her students and always have an open door
She knew what she was talking about. Gave good information and i learn a lot from it.
Her major strengths as a teacher was that she was always accesible to students and when asked for help through email she was always prompt in returning the emails.
helpful, knowledgeable, encouraging
Good communication, good classroom management, knows the subject, and responds to email quickly.
Caring, and offering help when needed.
Response to questions promptly.
She is helpful and encourages students to get better scores on tests. She uses media (powerpoints, blackboard collaborate) as a way to reach out to students if she's not doing lecture/review in class. She comes to class organized because she always bring handouts for us.
knows the material very well and wants everyone to succeed
She was VERY helpful and very quick to respond to any questions I had.
She knows the subject very well.
Let us think for ourselves, critical thinking.
She is a fantastic Professor, she is very energetic and well organized and does whatever it takes to help her students. She presents the material in a very positive manner and never seems in a bad mood.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I didn't like how we did so much work on animations and case reports when theyre not worth a lot of points.
Perhaps, the only comment I would give is to use fewer paper during the beginning of the semester. I remember that in the first two weeks of school, we were overwhelmed with a lot of handouts. Keep things concise. With regards to everything else, she is an awesome teacher. I would definitely take her for Zoology lab.
I would suggest her to be a bit more organized with her lectures. I could see the effort in her teaching which made me want to learn but constantly switching from powerpoint to whiteboard in a single lecture made it difficult to follow.
Can't think of any.
Spend less time on trying to build students abilities to work together as groups. Less focus on problem based learned cases.
Need more organized syllabus and hand-outs..
nothing
If possible, maybe not to put "All of the above" or "None of the above" as answers constantly in exams. It gets us mixed up with what the actual answer is.
Just the work, there was a lot of work due in one day. I had a hard time trying to turn it a all in
More mini lectures
none
the notes and the study guide was a bit too much. I don't like the fill in the blanks on the notes. I wish she didn't make those fill in the blanks so u can print it out and study it. It takes time to do it, which is why some people don't bother using it. Sometimes people don't have the time. I would rather just get to studying right away instead of filling in the notes first. she needs to narrow it down a little especially the final exam study guide was very overwhelming, therefore it's hard to study for the exams especially if it takes time to comprehend the subject. She needs to understand that everyone is different. Just because your a C or D average student it doesn't mean you didn't work hard or didn't study enough. Some students can comprehend faster and some takes time. She sure makes it hard to get an A in this class. It seems those A students are the smart ones who probably has a photographic memory, but if you work hard this class is passable.
Her PBL session doesn't really help her students to understand the A&P. It takes a lot of time.
Regarding her teaching style, none.
None
No changes!
Do more lecturing in class along with the PBL.
The only thing i would like to change would be to have the pre-exam quizzes due the day before the exam rather than through out the week, it would just make them more convenient. Although i understand why it is the way it is.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She says she is available at her office and comes around to help during group work.
She always sent out e-mails for big announcements and small. She even sent individual e-mails to show progress in the class, to relay grades, etc.
she gave us opportunities to ask questions and she even changed exam dates to mondays for the students to study over the weekend.
You can tell she really wants us to do well, she provides all the materials and resources you need to succeed in the class - there's online notes, lectures, animations, study guides, and even checklists for every week. She also gives a bunch of opportunities to boost your grade with extra assignments. If you fail the class it's because you didn't put the effort in.
She constantly reminded and email us to keep us up to date with our class. She asked us our opinions in class and was open to suggestions for class time use, etc.
She go over the questions from the exams that the students got the most wrong.
try to reach out to students even and try to help them or work with them to pass
She notified students what to get in the upcoming exams in order to pass the class.
She would help us as much as possible with our work, and if we didn't understand it she would try to explain it to us.
She was very understanding when it came to students understanding the material, when things werent clear she made them clear.
explained information thoroughly, available for questions, encouraged participation in class
She gave us some feed backs. We had to write about how we feel and how well we are doing in this class and she gave us feedback. She also offers for help if we need it. She also offered extra credits which were very helpful, but sometimes those extra credits are not easy.
Made it as easy as she could for students to be successful
She updates our grades/scores on laulima regularly. Amy also encourages us to give our fellow students feedback on how well we are performing each other's tasks. This shows that she wants to get involved with how the group and individual is doing. Most importantly, she tells students how we could improve our grade by constantly communicating to us via email.
was very easy to get a hold of, and always returned emails right away. keeping me updated on my grade and what i need to get a better one.
Yes, 100%
She makes sure we understand the lectures.and she is always available to talk to.,
She offered help and always let us know what her office hours was.
She always lets us know how the class did over all on the exams and if there are particular questions that we all struggled with she makes sure to take the time to review the material. Shes the type of Professor that will go the extra mile to help her students do well, the only way to do badly in this class is if you don't put in the effort.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend Amy Patz to other students. Her class is challenging, but she does help facilitate our learning. She is very helpful and shows concern towards her students.
For students who could be self-directed enough in this hybrid class, I would recommend this teacher because she understands that this is a hybrid class and she does more than necessary for the actual class portion.
yes definitely.
Yup, it's a good class, especially for people who like independent learning, because most classes aren't spent on lectures.
Absolutely. Amy made entry into health science extremely doable and exciting because she herself is enthusiastic about the subject and provides great learning resources to help you through the semester.
Yes, definitely! For a teacher who's currently pregnant with a LOT of PATIENCE to teach! That's awesome, specially she was Thoroughly focused on teaching us in the best way that we could understand..
yes even though i failed this class she gave me so much help and tryed to help me to understand her class its not easy but she helps you to understand
Yes. She is really nice and seems like she loves her job as a professor. She knows her material well.
yes i would because she makes class fun she will try and get everybody involved.
I would if they were able to handle the work of not being lectured and teaching themselves. other than that she was great.
yes, great teacher
This is really a hard class. Yes I would recommend her, but I would also give some warnings that this is a hybrid class which is all about learning own your own. I'm sure if we ask Ms. Amy for help, she will help us.
Yes, because she actually cares about students and wants them to succeed.
Maybe.
Yes. Amy made the course as easy as possible.
yes, teaches you to work as a group and to be more responsible for yourself
I will-she was a great teacher!
Yes I would recommend to students. Once you get a grasp on how the class material is organized, it becomes easy to succeed. Difficult at first to know how to use the resources provided.
Yes because students will really learn
Yes if you are able to study really hard on your own. Her class is hybrid so if you need more than studying on own then I wouldn't recommend the PBL course.
I absolutely would. Because shes a great teacher to work with and makes some very tough material more manageable.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She tells students ways they can memorize the material better so that they may succeed in the exams. This is very helpful.
I enjoyed her lectures a lot and I wanted to learn. If she had a more traditional class, I would love to take it.
wonderful teacher
She was a great teacher and really nice :)
She is AWESOME! I wish she taught more classes...
thank you for trying to help me as much as you did, i just wasnt ready for this much school yet and mixing it with work but next semester i will give my 100% thank you again
Thank you for the encouragement you give to each and every student.
She's awesome!
I just wish she was teaching 142 as well.

Very nice and easy to listen to.
She is very enthusiastic about the subject which makes it exciting to learn and she is also really approachable and easy to go to if anyone needs help.
Mrs. Patz is very, very, very smart in her field of study. She is truly an inspiration to me and all her students I would hope!
Her course is taught precisely as her syllabus states. She adapts well to fit the needs of her students.
She knew what she was teaching.
She assists students a lot during lab experiments.
She knew her materials really well.
talking
Being available and understanding.
she knew her stuff...she spoke directly to us and told us what she knew. she's a pro at what she teaches.
shes a great fun interesting professor and she always tries to help her students through problems. Shes always energetic and presents the material in a very positive way that engages students.
black oyster
I feel that her strength would be that she knew a lot about the subject. With this, she was able to explain to us about it in a clear and effective way.
Helps to understand things easier.
Very sweet, Friendly and knowledgeable. Tests were very Clear and fair. Excellent teacher! Always Ready to help us and always offering help in idenditfying structures of the body. Very dissapointed she seems to not be teaching for the fall semester due to having a child! I wanted to take more of her classes, i hope she comes back After maternity leave!
Just that she knows her subject very well and was able to explain to her students clear when they don't understand the material.
Awesome Instructor!
She's very nice and helpful to her students.
her experiments are more fun to learn than anything else she does.
Her major strength were she knew what to talk about and made class as entertaining as possible.
She explains the lesson very well so that all the students can understand what they are during especially during experiments
knowledgeable of subject matter, helpful with questions, encouraging and patient. I enjoyed her lab very much!
-Knowledgeable -Helpful -Great Personality
I think her main strength is her enthusiasm for teaching the course. You can tell she is fascinated with the material. She is also very thorough in explaining topics, for example if a student tries to explain how they understand the concept and they are a bit off she will correct them to make sure they know the information correctly. Her class is well planned out so that you know what to is expected and when things are do. I am sad she is not teaching Zool 142 because I would without a doubt sign up for her class. I loved this class.
knowledgeable in the subject area. excellent communicator. good classroom management. offered help to students. very patient, sensitive and understanding towards students. very nice and approachable.
She know's what she's explaining to us and explains clearly
She was always there for her students. She made sure we understood the materials.
Her explanations are concise and easy to understand. She's also very patient and thorough.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
None.
None
None.
none
I think her classes are very well structured.
change your face
I dont feel any changes should be made because everything was completly fair.
None
none. terrific teacher just how she is.
None.
I suggest making each studies (online) also in class and have the online studies less boring...
Just the work a lot of work was crammed i believe and I had a hard time just trying to get everything in on time.
-Need Extra Credit
I suggest starting the bones and muscles before the pig dissection so that the students have more time to study those chapters. Also, find a more creative way to incorporate the cell slides. I really don't see the point of the slides. We never talk about them or apply them to our experiments or dissections, so they seem pointless.
some of the things she lectures or talk about in class are a little difficult to understand - needs more clarifying. In the beginning, she was able to explain the material very well. There a lot to study for the exam, I would appreciate if she could be more specific on what areas to focus on studying especially on the models.
More lectures in class
Maybe study guides, to give us a heads up on what to concentrate for exams.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always offering help and ready to answer any questions.
She would always remind us to visit her office hours and make herself available to come in if we needed extra help.
She always takes the time to go over the class information with her students and explains things very well. She is patient and easy to get along with.
If you missed a lab and you contacted you then she'll make arrangements for you to make up whatever you missed.
She emails me letting me know what I need in order to pass the class.
Open to listening about questions and concerns.
She is always available to help students one on one or answer any questions in class, she always finds what problems the most people had trouble with on exams and helps us go over it, she is very open to taking suggestions from students to modify the class to our individual needs so that we can do well in this class.
She showed concern for students by making sure she made known that her office hours were available, responded to emails promptly, always took the time to explain any uncertain concepts and graded and posted grades very quickly.
She always answered questions and suggested if help is needed let her know.
Always offering to help us, very sweet teacher. get the sense she really cares. Terrific.
Encourage the students to go online to help us better understand the materials as well keep us inform if any changes are made through the assign scheudule.
Very supportive!
she noticed some students lacked enthusiasm and asked if anything went down or something
she will always have ways too communicate with us and give us email concerning how we were doing in class and would try and help us to do better.
I had a family emergency and I had to leave class early, she gave me a chance to gain the rest of the points that I miss the day I left early
available to answer questions outside of class, during her office hours. helpful in explaining why a question was marked wrong on assignments.
-She is willing to help and give tips to students when they are in need.
By answering questions thoroughly. She was always explained concepts before we did experiments to make sure we knew why the experiment was important.
She offers help and she is very approachable. She is not one of those intimidated teachers. She has a kind personality and soft spoken, which is why it's easy for students to interact with her or ask for help.
She would always go to each group asking if we we're ok and if we had any questions. She never just watched us perform the materials, she's always walking around and participates with us.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because she is a very good teacher

I defintely would recommend her to other students. She has been a teacher who cares if you pass her class as long as you put in the time and effort.
Yes I would cause she is a good teacher and is clear on things that is needed to know.
Best A&P Lab teacher! Definately recommended!
Yes. First, she treats all her students equal as well encourage us to do the assignments and remind the class to go online to study the materials before the quizes and exams. Her maintain to stay on tract with the scheudule she handed to us beginning of the semester unless otherwise she notifies us in class or through email.
Yes, I would recommend her, because she is very helpful, great teaching style that helps you retain the information, makes you think for yourself!
not really unless youre an individual student at studying
Yes i would she is a wonderful teacher and you will learn a lot from her.
Yes. Not only is she a very nice and understanding teacher, she explains the work and she's willing to help you if you have any questions
yes, absolutely!
YES
I would recommend Amy because you really learn a lot in her class. She always gives examples that students can apply to their lives which makes it fun to learn.
Yes, I would recommend her. Her lab class is a bit hard compared to other zoology lab as I've heard. Overall she is good at what she does and if a student is struggling she does offer help.
yes because she can help you understand her lectures by assigning case studies that relate to the chapters.
Absolutely, she's an amazing teacher and you could count on her. She treats you amazingly that your not afraid to go up to her for any questions.
I really enjoyed Ms. Patz class and highly recommend taking her class because she's very patient, friendly, and knowledgeable.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She's is awesome.
I wish she was teaching in the fall because I would have loved to take her Zoology 142 class.
I hope to have Mrs. Patz as my ZOOL 142 lab teacher for the Fall 2012 semester. I really like the way she teaches!!
Great teacher.
I appreciate how she puts her 100% into our class.
She was always available to helpout her students in class when we may have any questions about the assignments we have in class.
A great teacher

I really enjoyed your lecture and your lab! It made my transition in coming back to school smooth and positive. It really hit the hammer on the head about my decision to come back to school. Thank you!!
She's a great instructor!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She provided lots of activities to help us understand the material.
Good examples.
she gives extra credit opportunities in which leads us to see the extra credit options also open doors to help us understand the topic.
Her major strengths as an instructor is that she is always there, willing to help a student with any problems he/she are struggling for the course
She is always prepared and gives us many different resources that are very useful in tests. She sets deadlines that encourages the students to not procrastinate. She is always available for any problem or questions!
She was good at bringing in her quirky sense of humor into the narrated power points (lectures). She was very organized and quick in grading our material. Things were straight forward and I felt she was always available if I need help with some thing.
Compassionate teacher who provides us with all the resources.
knowledge of the subject
She was able to explain content in the course very well in a lecture form.
Mrs. Patz major strength is her willingness to help, advice in retaining information and the way she lectures/provides resources that has helped me learn and do well on the exams.
Professor Patz was the most organized teacher I have had. She kept me on track with a week by week assignment. She went above and beyond the duties of a teacher by providing outlines, to-do lists, online lectures, extra credit opportunities, and resources that would help us on the exam.
Organized and helpful.
she provided several methods of learning such as lecture, online notes and powerpoints and was always available for questions.
her class is very fun
She is very compassionate and really wants her students to learn.
Ms. Patz is an effective teacher who is able to reach out to the students. Her prior knowledge in the field helps students understand/answer their questions about topics related to real-life issues or cases.
knows subject well and motivated students to do their best
It is very clear that Amy is a very caring teacher and she explains complex concepts in a way that makes it easy for her students to absorb.
Real kind and concise about what needs to be done. Provides outlines for everyone.
Clear presenter of subject information. Uses different study tools to assist you with the subject material. This allows you to understand the material you need to know.
Mrs. Patz was always available if I had questions or needed something explained in further detail. She was very knowledgeable about Zool.
She is a good teacher and she explained well our lectures.
Course is very organized and she explains everything is detail.
helps students in need of assistance with problem with material, very helpful
She knows well about material.
Very helpful to students.
as much of a nuisance as the subject is, professor Patz still worked to make the material as appealing as possible.
She is a good motivator, very encouraging, very smart and very organize teacher.
Full knowledge of the subject and provided us to learn with other peers and independently as well.
Gives us many opportunities and methods to learn and retain very difficult material. Very dynamic and engaging.
She is very nice and thorough about her teaching. Quizzes and exams online are a plus. We can always go to her for help anytime, and she does not hesitate to create analogies for a better understanding.
Everything was organized.
Amy teaching method is really great. She understands the material very well, and is very organize. She is one of my best teachers i ever had in college. She kept me interested in the subject which hard to do with a subject like zoology. Overall she really cares for the student, and i can she really cares for her students.
She's approachable and genuinely encourages her students to be successful students. She is very knowledgable in the subject and has an extraordinary skill in explaining complex concepts in simple terms for all students to understand.
She is willing to help students when possible. She is fair and willing to do what she can to help you succeed in her class.
She is an instructor well versed in her subject, which makes learning from her much easier since you can approach her with any question with out worrying about being too obtuse.
Knowledgeable, patient, and punctual (returning emails, grading material, etc.)
She knows her class very well.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
maybe not doing the pbl and making it strictly lecture?
to give more lecture then activities during her classes, because it would be more helpful doing exams.
Just maybe upload the powerpoint slides/narrative slides early in the week we first learn the chapters.
I think for the problem based learning classes there should be one disease given to every student (or a group of students) at the beginning of the school year and they should do major research on it and give a very specific power point at the end of the semester. This power point should include all the side effects procedures required for treatment and all the causes of the disease. This way every one in the class would get a much stronger understanding of the disease. I did really enjoy the pbl part 2 where we would discuss our disease with the opposite groups disease but i did noticed that some students only knew the questions that were assigned to them and not any thing about the rest of the disease. I think this way every one needs to understand all the specific details and master a particular disease and teach it to other students!
I felt at the very beginning of the course, it was really clear to me how to approach or utilize all of the components of the hybrid class, ie; laulima, narrated power points, lecture notes, animation ect.. It took me until after the first exam to understand how these things work and once I did it made things like 10 times easier.
She started the class lectures after hearing out that we wanted it.
course is too broad
Add more time for lectures.
nothing, the way she sets up her course is honestly well thought out. She makes you do hw, quizes and watch the animations on time by giving an extra credit on the exam only if everything is done. If I forget to do a quiz the point will not be added. Mrs. Patz even changed her original schedule because her students had a suggestion but she asked all her students in both class to vote on what to do and she made those changes to satisfy her students.
Dont have as much group work.
more inclass teaching
I appreciate how she made changes and lessened the number of cases that we needed to investigate in order to make sure that we would be successful on our exams by thoroughly knowing the curriculum.

It would be nice if the blackboard collaborates could be posted earlier. With that said, I understand that Amy must have a lot on her plate :)
Less lecture, more PBL.
I would like a little more class instruction for this hybrid course. Other wise Don't change a thing.
Nothing
don't do pbl's
This class more need lecture for help students.
Spend more time on lecture rather than PBLs.
None.
Go over chapters in class instead of us reviewing it on our own at home.
Keep the number of PBLs small so that each PBL can have a focus rather than trying to keep up with constant PBLs.
No changes. At first I was unsure of this hybrid format, but not this hybrid class is pretty damn good.
More lecture time.
No changes
As long as she continues to be receptive of her students feed back (which she exceeds in) and she remains approachable (which she is), she will continue to master and improve her skills, techniques, and approches as a teacher. She's an excellent instructor!!!
Keep retooling the hybrid class dynamic. It seems there is still that struggle to get even veteran students into the unique class style. It's not to say that is at all any fault of hers, but there is still room for improvement.
I felt that the PBL learning issues are very important, however, I think that maybe a little less time devoted to discussion partners, and maybe more for lectures. But definitely still keep the PBL learning style. Huge difference in learning in a positive way.
fair grading system.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She provided us with surveys to see which parts of the chapters we weren't too clear about.
she emailed back right away
she goes over problems that we have on our assignments to give a clear picture.
During class she walks around and she always ask each of us if we need help or if we understand.
She would post the narrated power points on black board which was the best way of studying for me! They helped me understand that i am actually more of an auditory learner and that in class lectures do very little for me in learning. By listening to those narrated power points i was able to learn every thing in one sitting and i really hope all the professors start using that method!
Making her self available. Addressing learning issues that seemed to be common throughout the , for example if a bunch of us didn't answer correctly to some thing she would always take time to go back through and make sure we understood.
She will meet with you one-on-one and plan an action plan if needed.
When she changed the class schedule to put in more lecture time on more difficult parts of the content.
She showed concern for her students by replying to emails, setting up meetings with her students and taking in their concerns and questions.
She made sure that we asked if we had any questions or to see her at her office if we had any questions or concerns about the class. She also had us do a mid-semester evaluation and then she modified the class in regards to what people wrote in their evaluation. It showed that she listened to what the students thought.
Always available and quick to respond with any questions.
allowed us to take paper tests instead of online if we wanted, gave us opportunities to correct our essays for a better grade.
she reply emial very fast, we know what to do in class or at home.
She gave feedback often and she allowed for one exam to be taken later than the due date with no questions asked.
She often asks the class if they have any questions/concerns with anything. She encourages students to ask for any help if needed.
always stated that if we needed help, we can always email. after every blackboard presentation, she would always mention that if we had questions, that we always ask.
Amy had clear office hours in her syllabus and when asked was more than wiling to schedule appointments to accomodate her students.
Always listening to students concerns, worries and adjusting if needed.
Allowed you to call on classmates to help you answer questions. Every individual was called upon she did not target any one person . offered her assistance a lot of the time.
Mrs. Patz showed concern for students by encouraging us to study and providing us with more than enough information to help us get a decent grade if we just applied ourselves.
She is concerned about how our studies.
She was very concern with our opinions as students and how we can help her with any suggestions that will help her future students.
shows concern by checking if students get the material or not that she's explaining
She would come around the classroom asking if we needed any help or had any questions. She would also tell us to email if we have any questions and responds back quickly. She provides a lot of feedback concerning the work we do.
She is very concern with our studies, she is giving us tips on how to cope with her subject, and she is very easy to reach whenever we have problems with the subject.
She sent out emails to us regarding our grades for assignments, exams, and quizzes. She answers all of our questions.
Always makes herself available to assist with questions on material, quick to respond to emails and communication to go over tests.
We asked many questions and she made us understand the content with a better picture.
Available to meet outside of class.
Grades, always helped us, went out of her time to post power points and lectures for us online, and she showed us that she put in alot of work to make sure we succeed in her class.
She always remained accessible and open to our feedback! She also asked us our opinions, probably because she knows that many students (especially in Hawaii) are passive and aren't accustomed to telling the teacher what we believe he/her is doing wrong or areas in which they need inprovement. Amy Patz opened those lines of communication for us, so that we didn't have to put ourselves in a potentially uncomfortable situation.
She wants students to succeed and learn the material and is willing to help students who want to succeed.
She has a wealth of student forgiveness for common student excuses, both legitimate and rote.
Always stayed after class to answer questions that students may have had, made adjustments to some scheduling to accommodate students and their time needed for studying or getting things done. Made many resources available to the students to encourage the reinforcement of learning the material.
She suggests study habbit.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend her to other students because although it was a hybrid class she still did narrated powerpoints. The powerpoints helped me understand the material a little better than just reading the a&p book by myself.
yes, shes a good teacher who knows the subject well
yes, because she is an excellent teacher and does whtever she can to help her students achieve the subject they need to know.
I would recommend taking her if hybrid courses are your thing.
YES, because as long as you put in the effort for studying and follow the deadlines correctly, there is no possible reason why you should not pass this class with a very good grade.
Yes, because I felt like she cared and she was funny and engaging.
Yes, great teacher concise and very informative.
Yes because she is great at explaining things during lectures.
I would recommend Mrs. Patz because you literally learn from her class and helps us students to be responsible and self learners/independent people that will help us go far in our careers in the health field.
Yes. I would highly recommend her. She is efficient, organized, and my only professor who provided grades immediately (or as soon as they could) with a complete detailed percentage and point-by-point guide. I have never had a professor do this before and it helped me achieve the grades that I did because I never had any questions about my status in class. It kept me on track.
Yes.
Yes I would recommend her to studnets because she is a very nice teacher who is willing to help her students pass the course. She grades her quizzes and exams fairly.
yes. she is a reasonable teacher and tries to make the subject exciting and accessible.
in class teaching will be really good
Absolutely! She is a great teacher. She makes you work hard, but you come out really knowing what Zoology is all about.
I would recommend Amy Patz to other students because her course offers an experience to learn the subject with applying real-life case studies to help understand concepts. All of the resources, assignments and lessons she offers is very useful.
yes, great teacher
I would recommend Amy to any A&P student who wants to learn the subject properly and is willing to do the work needed to get an A.
Yes, her teaching is simple, effective, and enjoyable to learn under. Learned quite a lot and smoothly.
Yes just because she is a great Educator and students will learn a large amount of useful course material.,
Yes I would because she makes learning Zool fun and interesting.
Yes, because she's a great teacher who helps her students as much as she can.
highly recommended, very good teacher and knows her stuff
Yes, because her lecture is easy to understand materials.
yes, very nice, helpful teacher who shows concern for students.
Yes, because she is very good in teaching.
I would recommend students who can work on an online course for this class. Things are independently learned at home on your own. Also students who like to work in groups, classes are mainly in groups when we do have class, other than that everything else is on your own.
YES. Makes learning the material fun.
Yes, i would recommend her to other students, because in this class you'll really lean to be more independent, organized, and timely mannered.
Yes because she knows the subject very well.
yes, great teacher
Yes, because she is one of the best teachers that I've head in a college level class (and I have taken many classes because I received a Bachelor's degree in psycholody at UH Manoa and have taken other classes at KCC).
Yes because I like the PBL class. She is helpful.
I would only be able to recommend the course to those who are already well self motivated. For the uninitiated, the workload will be too much.
Definitely. She works extremely hard to make so many resources available to the students. Regular powerpoints, narrated powerpoints, Wiley Plus, quizzes on Laulima, and animation worksheets in addition to the text. She basically makes learning so easy for the student. But at the same time it encourages students to learn on their own. If these still aren't enough, then she encourages students to email her and ask questions.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Great professor.
shes awesome
none
That she is a really nice and wonderful teacher.
She is an amazing teacher and cares for every student to learn all the materials and her tests are very fair when you have studied.
She wasn't any easy teacher, she didn't cut much slack but if you did your part you should do well.
This is my first semester in Kcc and I'm a Sophomore. I can honestly say she is the best professor I had by far.
She always encouraged you to speak out in class and if you didn't know the right answer, she was very kind about it and guided you to the right answer. I didn't feel intimidated.
Good teacher.
she is great, i really like her
She is very down to earth and approachable and even took the time to know the names of the students in her lecture classes. It is a great environment when your teacher takes the time to learn your name and know who you are.
Ms. Patz is very kind and helpful to students. I appreciate her teaching methods and does her best for students to really learn the subject.
great job
She's a very compassionate teacher who is knowledgable in her subject. She is always open to any questions and that is an invaluable quality in any teacher.
I enjoyed the PBLs, a lot more than lectures.
Thank You
Thank you!
very nice teacher and has high knowlege of the material she teaches
She is great teacher!
Continue the excellent job.
By far the best instructor I have had at Kapiolani.
She makes one of my top great professors list,

She is a very kind and caring instructor. I hope she can maintain that same attitude as an instructor for the rest of her interim as a teacher.
Highly recommended. Very impressed with teaching style and the hybrid format.
Thank you.

She is amazing!
I really enjoyed her blackboard collaborate. She is a great teacher and I learned more from her lectures online than I did from the book. I liked her analogies and jokes. I hope my ZOOL 142 professor will be as enjoyable and easy to understand as she was.

i really like this class
I was glad to be able to learn more effectively from Ms. Patz's class compared to my previous experiences in this course.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Good teacher knows her stuff well.
Her major strengths as a teacher is that she is always there, willing to help a student with any problems he/she are struggling for the course
Amy Patz is very good at explaining the subject matter in a way students can understand it better, she's an overall very good teacher.
She really took the time to explain everything in class. She made sure that we were not just doing the experiments, but understanding why and what we were doing.
Funny/ Fun teacher.
Amy Patz knew there course material very well.
She knew exactly what she was talking about when she lectures the students. She knew the subject very well, which is always good because that's what the students expect anyway.
Very engaging and willing to give her own time to assist someone in their learning.
Very well-versed, and made the subject matter fun to learn. Very helpful when giving the oral quizzes to each group. She didn't lecture too long (as expected in a lab), and when she did, she focused on what we should concentrate on for the exams.
She teaches very clearly and explains all the details.
very flexible with working with students to help them attain a better understanding of the course material, even if it means changing her lesson plan.
She thoroughly explains all labs and assignments
explaining the material that needed to be covered
She is very knowledgeable about Zool 141. She is a really good teacher, that makes you want to learn. She was always willing to meet before or after class if you want to discuss your grades or just to get an idea of where your at.
She showed that she knew the subject very well. She was always available for help even when it is not the assigned class time.
she made sure that everyone understood the material very well. she gave great example that we can relate to and made learning fun.
Amy is well organized and is able to convey concepts and information very well. She creates an open atmosphere of learning by encouraging questions and discussions about topics.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
No changes at all
I don't have any changes.
I really enjoyed her class, there is nothing that i would change.
none
None.
Perhaps she could give the written quizzes towards the end of the lab instead of at the beginning.. I realize the quizzes are meant to figure out if the student read the assigned chapters before lab, but in order to minimize cheating (some students looking at another students paper) and to keep the student in class for the full 2 hours, it might be better for students to take it after the lecture/lab. They will be confident to answer the quizzes on their own (rather than peeking at another students), and can't leave lab early or when Ms.Patz isn't looking.
Maybe to show and go over the models very fast and quickly at the beginning of the class. Because due to the very bad models that we have it takes a very long time to find some very easy number on the models. If she goes over them quickly at the beginning of each lab class then the students have a slight idea of what they are looking for and in which general area they should look for it!
Nothing
don't do any pbl (problem based learning) sessions or classes.
Nothing really. Majority of everything seems fair. Maybe if she graded things "easier-less harsh"
i feel that we should of gone over all the material that was needed for the exams. like the atlas figures and the micro anatomy slides.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always ask each of us if we need help or any questions about the topic
Patz always helped me answer questions, and made sure I understood the concept thoroughly, she made herself easily accessible during class.
She always took her time with the students. She never rushed anyone and always took in account any answer that was given. She made herself avvailable outside of class as well.
.
She'll approach the student and talk to that person or she'll just email showing concern.
Always attempting to quiz to check on progress BEFORE tests or quizzes happened.
She demonstrated how lab experiments are to be done (to minimize confusion) and went around to every group to see how they were doing during model examinations. You can tell she really wants every student to succeed.
she was available all the time in class or out side of the class to help students with materials for the lab and for the tests!
She expressed her concerns in our opinion as students to give any suggestions, so she can better her teaching for future students.
asks students if they understand the material and explains in the best way for students to understand
She showed concern by making herself very accessible to her students.
She was available to meet out of class.
she went around the room to make sure that we were right on track and tested us on the material we learned.
Her office hours are clear and she's willing to meet with students as long as an appointment is set up. She's always encouraging student participation and discussion.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Always willing to point us in the right direction when we are doing homework questions and asking questions we are not sure about. Takes the time to make us understand the subject. Uses the full class time during the summer session and tries to fit as much as she can in that session.
She is great at explaining concepts and is very nice/not intimidating. Great teacher!
shes motivated to teaching us the material, always willing to stay back and help us with whatever.....even with other classes.....an amazing person =) love her to death
Amy is the shit!
She is good teacher because her lecture is easy to understand.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
There were a few experiments that we couldn't do due to ineffective equipment and also need newer models. If at all possible if the school can buy these equipment then we can properly test these experiments. Other than that everthing was great!
Wish I could think of some bc I know it is helpful...but everything was great.
no changes....except too bad she couldn't be able to teach 141 and 142 lecture and lab....
Yeah she should kick usagawa out of lecture and patz should teach it.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would stay pass class time to help us if we had any questions. Extend her office hours to make sure that we got our materials for the exams.
She is patient, kind and understanding.
was always there for us willing to help with everything and anything.
she was truly concerned about our well being and wanted us to succeed in the lecture even tho she didnt teach it!
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would. Very Great teacher!
Definetley, one of best teachers I've had.
yes i would...she wants you to know the material not just have you pass the class. she's very sweet and teaches the material easily.
Yes, she is amazing you learn alot and she is a sweetheart
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you for the great experience in Zoology lab! It really helped me understand my lecture class even more.
Don't change a thing!
she needs to teach 141 and 142 =)
She is the best AP professor, jonen is aswell...
18. Other comments:
Dr. J is the MAN! so funny and good sub when we had him, I wish i had Dr. J for lecture I would actually look forward to going to class. as opposed to usagawa there is no point... i can read off of the lectures too...

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Her lecture was fun, the in-class quiz and lecture notes help a lot, she also likes to share techniques that help us to memorize.
Amy Patz has many teaching strengths. One major thing is the review quizzes that we have after we cover the material while it is still fresh in our minds. Another thing is the well organized power point presentations and I love the notes that she has made for the class. She makes materials for the class easily accessible and if we do not
Great knowledge of the subject area and use of everyday examples and memorization tips.
As a teacher, Amy shows great concern for every student (despite his or her grade). She's open to all of her students that either need to go over more information or talk about his or her progress in class. She always informs us of any coming up the next class or what's just been posted on the laulima website. she encourages all her students to participate in the lecture by answering anything she asks us.
Keeping students engaged in the class while still going over the whole material.
She knows her material and if we asked a question she didn't know the answer to she went to look up the answer and told it to us the next class period.
she knows her material outstanding on her powerpoint.
very passionate teacher who knows her craft very well. Really connects subject to real life content.
knew the subject well and showed great enthusiasm when teaching. very fair and helpful.
She genuinely cares about her students. Not only does she know how to communicate with them in a way so that we understand the content she is teaching, but she is always available to her students should we need further help.
knowledgeable
Very enthusiastic about going the extra distants for students.
She makes her class enjoyable to be in.
She knows the subject area very well and always encourages students to ask questions. She makes the class room environment as "fun" as possible despite the difficulty of the subject matter. I've taken her for 2 classes, and would take her again if she had a 3rd. One of the best teachers I've had.
She appears very approachable.
She is very organized.
Amy Patz's major strengths as a teacher are, shes well organized, knows here what shes teaching,
Some of the major strength that Amy Patz has are the strong knowledge of certain topics, gets student to participate even though there are none, and motivation, the motivation that she gives her students to do well.
She could explain well on anatomy and gave students clearer knowledge of information
Amy encourages students participation in class. I liked that we took short quizes during her lectures. It notified me on what key areas to study.
Amy Patz is a real professional. I think students can tell she has been teaching this course for some time. She is organized and attacks the tougher, harder concepts from the beginning of the lecture. There is a rhythm to her lecture. She jumps into lecture with a quick review, attacks a concept with q&a, a quick quiz, attacks a concept with q&a, quick quiz, lecture is over. Its all business because there is so much material to cover in a short period of time. For this class, the students have high expectations and performance of themselves. I think students enjoy her class because they want to work at a same level as Amy Patz.
Ms. Patz is a natural leader, not just because she stands in front of a classroom, because she exudes confidence and projects a strong sense of excitement for course material towards her audience. Anatomy and Physiology weilds some difficult concepts that demands attentiveness, so behind the enthusiasm of her well organized lectures students demonstrate the desire to participate in class. She establishes a safe environment for learning, the kind that fosters positive feedback even when one took a risk to raise their hand to answer a question (whether correct or incorrect) during class. During lecture, often Ms. Patz asks the three dollar word "why" as she looks out across her room, and as a result her students start to get involved in the process of feeling like their understanding of the material is important, and that they are part of a movement towards grasping key concepts. Ms Patz is always available for her students during her office hours. Often, I felt like I was a permanent fixture in her office asking one question after the next; however, not once did she turn me away or make me feel like I was wasting her time. It became very clear that when she decides to do something, that she rolls up her sleeves, and jumps into with both feet. She never gives up on her students. I'll always be grateful for everything she has taught me.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Maybe move the deadline for online quizs after the class instead of before the class.
I know it may not be possible, but I wish we had more lecture time to go over things! Other than that I really enjoyed your class immensely!
Slow down sometimes. Some things were briefly covered and quickly looked at.
No changes are needed in my perspective.
request 1 hour and 20min classes because 3- 50 min. classes were unfortunately rushed
none
i wish extra credit quizzes could've been completed up until class time (11) instead of hour before.
None
more extra credit, take care of the lower grade students
nothing
The study guides are too broad. since we have 7 or 8 exams total for the whole semester, she should be a littel more specific on the study guide. Also, when she usually runs out of time in class, she makes us study many of the sections on our own
A suggestion that I would considered is just a review before exams. Other then that here class is well organized.
None. Maybe a longer class time so we don't have to rush through the material that needs to be covered.
Her exams should not be too difficult, her questions always consisted of MANY questions that were misleading by one word which are very tricky. I study so hard yet those questions always get to me
Nothing
There is a lot of subject matter to cover in this class. I think it would be a good idea to assign students to draw pathways like hormones from post-pituitary go where/affect what, tubular fluid flow through pct-collecting ducts indicating reabsorption, excretion, secretion of ions, water, hormones. Make these assignments optional and due on exam day as an EC. It's study guide and reinforces the processes.
NONE!
use 3D graphics for power points
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always keep in touch with her students, spend time to reply emails and answer questions.
She showed concern through the quizzes and the grades and advice that she posts up. The quizzes is for the temperature check to see if the students are absorbing the material, the grades (along with other peoples' grades) help one know where they are in the class, and the advice is for people struggling in the class or people who want to continue to do well.
went over exams with students individually to help them better understand the things they had a hard time with. She also sent email notifications to remind us and provided resources online in laulima.
Amy Patz shows concern by informing those who might need to go over a bit more than what is covered in lecture because in the given amount of time, we sometimes don't go over as much as she planned. Show she informs all of us that she is willing to go over with anyone that wants to after class or office hours.
updating students via email on how they are doing in the class and offering help at any time.
always asked questions, emailed us about grades and better ways to study for exams
she is really concern about her students
constant asking of feedback and emails.
Always available to her students. She is constantly monitoring their progression throughout the semester and always goes out of her way to reach out to students who may need the extra guidance or who are not "keeping up" in class.
ask questions and quiz in class, answer all the questions from students during class
Constantly asking students to ask for help if needed.
She gives quizzes in class for students to remember something about the lecture that she just went over and she listen to students if they have any question and comments.
She would always answer my questions emailed to her promptly. She also did her best to help rearrange her schedule should you need help outside of class.
she provides 1 extra credit quiz for each of the chapter that we go over.
She replies immediately when there are questions in emails. She also shares some ideas on how an A student studies.
She showed concern for students by always listening and answering there questions, she gives one make up exam and give extra credit points for completing her online quiz's and also she's always positive.
She asked if we had trouble with certain topics that we don't quite understand.
She responded to emails, whenever questions were asked she would make them clearer for us to understand without confusion
Amy spoke/emailed me when my grade droped and encourgaed me to meet wih if I needed help in studying.
Every lecture Amy Patz starts with questions from the class. She will stop the lecture 2 or 3 times (depending on depth of the subject) and give the class an opportunity to ask questions and clarify the lecture. Students always asks questions and Amy Patz clarifies the lecture point. She stays after class to answer additional questions and makes herself available to students during her office hours.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I will, she is a really good instructor.
I would highly recommend her to any student because her lectures are interactive, incredible, and she always makes sure that anyone and everyone is equally exposed to the material.
Yes, she gives you a lot of detail when learning the anatomy of the human body and the short quizzes keeps you on your toes and up to date with the class lectures.
I highly recommend Amy Patz to any incoming student that wants to learn about the human body. Because of the topic being covered, it's generally a difficult course to cover. Amy Patz teaches at a slow, easy understanding pace for anyone and if you don't understand she is willing to temporarily halt her lecture or go over with you after class.
Yes. Shes very knowledgable and keeps students focused by her upbeat personality.
Yes because she is able to teach the material to the students in a way we can understand it
absolutely she is a great instructor
definitely. She really emphasizes and reiterates the material in a way that students can understand.
yes and i already have recommended her. great teacher.
DEFINITELY! And I do! She is a great instructor and relates to students well, cares about her students and how they do in her class, makes sure she students are prepared for exams, knows the subject extremely well, and is always there should we need additional help.
yes, but only if the students really wanna learn something and smart. if you only wanna get an A or not very self motive!
Yes. They will have a good chance to earn a good grade by learning good material.
I WILL RECOMMEND HER TO OTHER STUDENTS.
Yes, by far the best anatomy lecture teacher I've seen.
I think overall, Ms. Patz is okay. So i would recommend her.
Yes. Zoology class is much more interesting.
Yes I would recommend here to students, because shes well organized, got everything planned, and always want here students to learn and understand whats she teaching. Also provide a positive and learning atmosphere.
Yes, she's very knowledgeable.
For the lecture, not really because her exams affect your grade in this case it occurred to me
Yes. Excellent teacher.
Amy Patz's friendly nature makes her approachable. Her professionalism earns her respect right away. I can't say that I've heard a student speak poorly of her. They may not like the language of a question on an exam, but students quickly realize that its because they do not understand the subject as clearly as they thought or incorrectly read the question/answer. I wouldn't want to take this class with another instructor. She is highly recommended.
Yes I would and have already done exactly that. When asked how was she as a teacher, I always respond with the same few sentences. She really cares about her students, but she is very fair. You have to work hard to earn an A in her class. You learn more that way though, because you have to push yourself harder. She is always available for you when you have questions.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
When taking her lecture class if can try to enroll in her lab course as well (no matter ho late it is). Doing so allows you to relate both lab and lecture much easier because the order of topics taught in lab correlate with the ones in lecture.
good job
Truly an asset to KCC and the UH system.
thanks professor!
Very recommended.
Great teacher, wish there were more like her.
how i wish there are less exams.
Really enjoyed her class,I learned a lot. Just keep doing on what shes doing.
I had her for 2 semester and it was worth it. I learned a lot, it wasn't only for the good grade I want but the materials/topics that I wanted to get off of.
She provided me with a tough semester but made me learn for myself
KCC is a wonderful person. She is a humble and considerate human. If I were a student in her department, I would want her to be my advisor. Amy Patz gives students the feeling that no challenge is to big to overcome or too small to ignore, so much as it a task to be completed. She has a real 'go for it' attitude.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She's nice and does show some concerns to her students.
knows material well, just a great teacher overall
Well experienced and good lab planner to utilize the whole three hours.
Informative. Fair. Helped students.
She is a great teacher and very knowledgeable in her subject. She is easily accessible to all students. Also, always goes over the directions in class and informs us early by email to keep in my of what's going on.
Her strengths as a teacher was providing a great attitude towards students which made me want to learn. Also her labs were engaging and provided with me useful information
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would suggest not grading so hard and marking off just .5 points. Her grading is kind of difficult. Maybe suggest more extra credit?
none
Maybe offer some short breaks every so often. If they want to keep working then let them though.
none
no changes
Do grade her creative images easier. I felt she was harsh on them and expected too much
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would ask if we had any questions.
always asked if we had questions and made sure we understood the material and went over it thoroughly.
She gave us email reminder and provided a lot of the resources online.
helped students before and after class.
She always email her students of anything that were going to do in class. Always reminding of exams and proper attire for the lab.
She responded to emails quickly, her concern for students if missed class was fair, always provided alternative opportunities
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Sure, but I think you could find another teacher that could not be so hard on the grading. She's nice I guess.
Yes because class is easy if one can handle all the material there is to learn
Yes, the labs are well organized and thought out.
Absolutely. She taught the subject well. Easy to understand.
I would recommend Amy pats to any student that wants to take Human Anatomy. She goes over the materials and directions slowly with the class to make sure everyone understands what is going on.
yes, she engages students to take part in activities, grading isnt that strict
i recommend to take her class.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She grades hard in lab class.
I've enjoyed having her as my instructor!
Keep exams same format but time frame could be longer
