13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Awesome TA.
great person to have as an TA. made the labs enjoyable and lax to a certain extent (and i dont mean one of those complete fool around classes where you get nothing done). there's a time for enjoyment...and a time for seriousness. but overall, fantastic job!
She was a wonderful teacher. She was very easy to talk to and would help as best as she could. She answered and encouraged all questions and had an answer to almost all of them. She made the class very fun to go to and I learned a lot from her lab class. She is great!
She is a good TA, very easy-going which makes class discussions and even just talking to her easier to have.
good
Great TA, very informative. Speaks clearly and makes class interesting.
A worthwhile individual who helps everyone. She is amazing!
Great TA thanks!
that she is a very good TA and cares about each student.
she is an excellent TA who cares about the students and also their understanding of the the material
She was a very effective TA who was available whenever we needed her. She responded to email queries very promptly and was very helpful in class with answering questions regarding the course lectures and preparing us for examinations.
She is a fantastic lab leader. I'm glad I was in her lab class. She made assignments clear and answered our questions thoroughly.
Awesome! Very friendly and helpful. Would love to have her as an instructor again.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Just talking about the topics from class.
i liked the way she ran her labs. she encourages her students to do well and offers out her time to help should her students ask and need it. you dont know something and she'll be more than willing to explain it to you.
I enjoyed the group projected because I had a great team and I learned a lot about the subject matter we were chosen to study.
I enjoyed how the labs helped me to understand lectures, and if I missed a lecture, it helped me catch up. And I also liked when we didn't have lab.
Presentations and review sessions
Making friends
In terms of the discussion labs, I enjoyed all of the chapter presentations. In terms of earning an oral credit, it was much more enjoyable than most classes because the course content was incredibly interesting and well taught. I also enjoyed the Japanese Cultural Center visit because the exhibit was incredibly fun and informative.
I liked how Lianne kept everything organized. She was very timely and returned our quizzes the next lab class. She also kept our Laulima gradebooks up-to-date. She always sent us weekly e- mails in how to prepare for the class or reminding us who was doing chapter presentations.
Everything
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I didn't really like the presentations.
cant say that i disliked any part of the lab for this course. it was educational and fun...period.
None
As much as I liked lab, it was kinda alright. It was great before the midterms and test, other than that, it was cool.
The quizzes and tests
Too many assignments
the group presentation . the paper was the most difficult because each person has their own level of writing skills and it is frustrating to try and combine 5 papers that are written differently. I was the one who combined it all and I honestly got upset throughout the whole thing. this WASN'T the TAs fault at not
I didn't enjoy the group presentation so much. It wasn't that I didn't have a good group, it's just that I'm not a fan of them in general. I understand the merit of being able to work with others, but I just didn't feel like it was absolutely necessary for the course. It certainly wasn't a difficult assignment or anything like that, so I recognize that it's still good to do, but it was my least favorite course, personally.
I did not like quizzes. It would have been better to have quizzes on material that was presented recently and not weeks later after we all forgot the correct spelling and pronunciation of names especially like Joe K., names of people involved in the Massie affair, the Japanese poet and actor, etc. If we will be given quizzes much later after the material was presented to us, multiple choice option would refresh our memory. Just because we cannot remember the name specifically doesn't mean we cannot recognize it.
none.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Excellent and would recommend to anyone.
although she said that she'll only be doing TA for one more time after this semester, it's nice to have TA's that have a sense of humor and who know how to get the class loosened up and going. knowing how to motivate, etc. i would totally recommend someone else to take this class and to try to get her as a TA.
It is a great course, you learn a wealth of knowledge on Japanese Americans in Hawaii. Although majority of the material takes place in the mid 1900's, I think it is because that is the most important time frame for Japanese Americans in Hawaii.
The course was great, and the TA was awesome.
good
very nice
Pretty good
The course is incredibly fun and informative. The lectures are very interesting and if you have a lab leader like Lianne who can help to fill in the gaps and answer questions that the lectures might leave, the course is very rewarding. I would definitely recommend it to others.
This is a great lab class and Lianne is a superb leader who is very straight-forward about how she grades and what to expect out of the class; which gives us a thorough idea of how much work and effort is needed on our part.
Would recommend to everyone.
18. Other comments:
Thank you for a wonderful and fun educational filled semester. you made it fun and UH should have more classes with TA's just like Lianne. learning isn't too effective (in my opinion) unless you're enjoying it. Thank you again and good luck in your future endeavors after you graduate! :)
You should let your hair down more often ;D
Highly recommend!

14. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
The best. Thanks Lianne!!!
a great help to the class.
Best T.A. so far. Thanks.
Very helpful in conducting a natural learning environment. Approachable manner in which there were no walls in communication. The class environment was well created also. The class procedure was well organized and handled to answer any confusion from Dr. Ogawa's lecture.
was a great ta and was very helpful at the times i needed help.
Very good TA. I would definitely recommend her to future students!
The best T.A. I have had at the University. She was easy to talk to and always willing to help.
A GREAT teaching assistant who made class fun and enjoyable!!
She is really nice and made me more interested in Japanese American history in Hawaii.
Awesome
She is a cool TA. She is easy to talk to and very helpful
You are an AWESOME TA!!!!!! You always answered emails promptly and offered help whenever we didn't know a certain term or had a question about projects or assignments. Thank you for sending out reminder emails about important dates!! That really helped keep us on track :) This class was fun because of Lab and your way of teaching it!! Hope you continue to do what you do!! Thanks for a great semester :)
GOOD! I learned a lot by doing chapter presentations and by doing the group project.
great help :)
Awesome. That is all.
Lianne is awesome and is always willing to help her students if they need help. She is quick to respond to her students emails.
She was very helpful and probably the most approachable TA I've ever had.

16. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Her helpfulness. Thanks Lianne!!!
Chapter presentation.
just learning about the whole Japanese culture and learning the history behind then.
Group discussions.
In this course I liked the group work.
I liked doing the JCCH paper because it was a very enlightening experience that helped me to become more aware of the hardships that the early Japanese generations went through to provide us with the opportunities we have today.
I liked visiting the Japanese Cultural Center the most.
Everything
Group work!! Lab was always humorous and fun coming which was the best part of this entire AMST class.
I liked that we had to work in groups. I learned how to become a leader by communicating effectively with my group members (who we all very willing to help as much as they could) to get the job done! I learned a lot in this class not only about the class materials, but as a person.
Everything.
I liked most of the lectures because they were entertaining and informational.
JCCH paper. it was a pretty cool exhibit and I liked walking through it.
group presentation
17. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
NONE Thanks Lianne!!!
N/A
Exam
nothing.
I didn't like the reading responses that much
I would say presenting the chapter outline because I always become so nervous when it comes to public speaking. Though, I would like to say that Lianne had been so helpful in answering my emails immediately that it made the task much less stressful.
I didn't like listening to other students' chapter presentations.
The work
I didn't like how the labs were only once a week. I actually learned quite a bit from Lianne, and would have like to have more engaging conversations like the lab settings. More specifically, because it was very personal to interact with Lianne.
Picking my presentation to be on the second week of class. What was I thinking?
Group assignment. I have never been fond of working with a group for school related things, and I thought the essay part was pretty awkward (because everyone has a different writing style, I can't imagine it possibly turning out smoothly)
nothing
18. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Thanks Lianne!!!
Very interesting and learned so much about Japanese Americans.
Great! I especially wanted to emphasize the work of Lianne. She was great.
great course and would tell other students to take the class.
Very interesting course. Full of information!
Good course and good lab
Excellent! I had a great (very friendly and helpful) Teaching Assistant and I learned a lot about the Issei and Nissei's life on the plantation fields and during world war II.
A+ Lianne made the class enjoyable!
A+
AWESOME lab just because Lianne was our TA :)
I overall enjoyed the class. I would definitely recommend this to my friends, and anyone interested in learning about Japanese Americans in the United States. I sure did learn a lot, and wished a lot of other College classes could be this engaging.
Awesome, take it and learn some new stuff.
I enjoyed taking this class. I liked it because a lot of the information that I was learning about pertained to Hawaii's history. Dr. Ogawa and Lianne were great instructors and very helpful
very good to fulfill the O grad req
good
19. Other comments:
You were very under appreciated but I'd just like to let you know that some of us, even if we didn't express it are really really thankful for all that you've done. Thanks Lianne!!!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Lianne!
Lianne was very kind and patient with us, and was always willing to help. She did everything she could to make sure we understood the assignment and was very prompt in answering questions. I truly appreciate her passion towards making sure that all of us students did well!
Lianne is the best TA
