16. Other comments:
|
| I really enjoyed this class. The on-line modules really helped me understand the material in a hands-on type of way and it brought a new teaching style to the plate. However, if I had to take this class again, I would want him to have the students choose their own group members for the project. I understand that he wants us to learn how to work with people aside from our friends, but I had a VERY difficult time with the international students. They would not cooperate at all. I believe that even though while working with the ones that you want to work it (friends), it still poses challenges because you need to work around each others' schedules, different writing styles, presentation styles, etc. Regardless of that though, I really enjoyed the review sessions and little in-class assignments Wen had for his students. Bottom line, very few professors have as much passion as he does when teaching. I give Wen an A+ |
| He is strict but great professor. |
| Thank you very very very much for giving us such a great opportunity to learn what we should know
about Hotel Industry! You are always there for us whenever we need you... I am really appreciated of
everything you have taught !!!!! Thank you so much Dr. Wen, you are the best!!!! Love you! |
| In the beginning I thought Dr. Wen was another strict teacher and I was scared to death to take this
course. Later throughout the semester I realized that he is not strict but actually caring, and cares a
lot about his student. He wants them to really learn and not just pretend like we know the subject.
He is very helpful! For the group project we called him on the cell phone couple of times and he
was ALWAYS there to help us and give us suggestions. Great teacher and he may look strict but is
actually nice, funny, and caring professor!! :D |
| Despite being one of the hardest courses I've ever taken, I would gladly take this course again. Dr. Wen has been nothing but knowledgeable and helpful during the entire semester. Anytime students had questions, he would be more than happy to answer. He is always there for his students, no matter what and really pushes his students to strive and reach their full potential. |
| He's actually a funny professor^^ |
| Good teacher |
| Excellent. I am excited to take 431 with him in the Spring.
...he should get a date |
| Thank you for a great semester Dr. Wen! Wish you were teaching 431 this fall. |
| The only issue I have had in this class is the group project. I feel as though there is a high possibility
that you can be placed in a group where there is an unfair proportion of work that is done. In my
group, I did a majority of the paper because we are graded on the project as a whole, which led to
me writing nearly the whole project. I wish there was a way where we could be graded on what we
are responsible for on the project. This would have helped me have way less stress this semester.
Other than that, everything is fair! |
| Great teacher. He is really knowledgable about this course and teaches his students so that they are
prepared for the real world and he just wants all of us to exceed in our profession. |
| I DO NOT WANT TO SEE YOU NEXT SEMSTER!!haha |
| I would like to say thank you for teaching us, I think I am not well in this class because lack of
effort, sorry about that and again thank you. |
| I enjoyed your class Dr.Wen!!! |

12. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
|
| Dr. Wen is always there when we need help. Also, he explained everything
about the course clearly and he came the classes well-prepared. Throughout
his class, I have learned rich knowledge from him. |
| It was truly an amazing experience to have Dr. Wen during my first semester with the TIM school. I had absolutely no background in IT, and intiially, not interest in the subject manner whatsoever. However, Dr. Wen was engaging, and truly motivating; in the end, I very much enjoyed the subject matter, and more importantly, learned the material, and retained it. The knowledge gained has helped me in other subject areas, and has helped me gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry.
It truly takes a great professor, and educator, to spark that kind of interest and motivation among students with no initial background, nor interest in the subject matter. It was very evident that he wanted to make sure that all the students understood the material, and would go to lengths to ensure that we were understanding the material. More importantly, he wanted to make sure we were able to use the information in real world, industry situations to the best of our abilities. His approach to teaching innovative in the sense that usually the students have reach out first to attain support, or help, from their professors. Dr. Wen's approach is just the opposite: he extends his hand out first, and wants to make sure that you accept it. He was extremely helpful, and responsive by e-mail, and office hours: literally always responding within hours. It was evident that he truly cared, passionate, and knowledgeable about the subject material. Overall, a truly engaging, informative and motivating experience. The TIM school would benefit from professors that exhibit such aforementioned qualities as Dr. Wen. |
| His sense of humor (livened up a class with relatively dry subject matter), his emphatic assertion that whenever we needed help or had questions, he was always available (a quality rare to find among professors), and he always strived to get everyone involved in class discussions, which helped us engage and learn more. |
| He has an amazing ability to make our insufficient answers about his questions great answers. He always valued our opoinions and encouraged us to think creatively. |
| I enjoyed Dr. Wen's ability to include every class member in discussions, and make us think even
when we didn't want to or didn't understand. Many times he pushed me to think when I didn't
understand a concept, forcing me to understand.
Dr. Wen has high expectations for us and comes prepared with knowledge to convey. I didn't know
anything about IT before this class and now I am, well not quite an expert, but much more
comfortable with the associated topics.
Students in class can tell that he CARES. When he sees a student is putting in effort, he will help
that student to achieve their goals. |

16. Other comments:
|
| Throughout this program, Dr. Wen only teaches us one course. Hope we can take
his courses again in the future. |
| Refer to question 12 :)
Thank you Dr. Wen! You made an IT believer out of me! |
| One suggestion that I would make for the course is the provision of more practical information about how IT systems work, and more specifically, how they work in the hospitality industry. Any effort that can be made to visually display the way that IT works is helpful, because my classmates and I were generally very unfamiliar with uses of technology, networking, and just computing in general. A more thorough introduction to the topic may be warranted. In addition, I would've liked to hear more input from Dr. Wen about what he would recommend for the different case studies we reviewed. It would give us a more realistic picture of what's feasible in these business settings. One more thing: it would be nice to have a few more case studies that pertained specifically to the travel industry. Last two recommendations!: Perhaps a little more feedback could be given about the presentations we give in class ... I know Dr. Wen took careful notes about our presentations, but these were not made available to us so that we could make improvements. And finally, some of the comments on the papers that were returned to me were not very constructive, as if he expected us to know how we should improve. I would ask that, in future, suggestions for improvement be detailed, either on the paper or in person, rather than pithy statements like "Don't you think that your argument is weak?"
Overall, a tough course. But I learned a lot! |
| Dr. Wen is such a great professor with a lot of knowledge. He also genuinely cares about his students and teaching. I will miss his classes. |
| Dr. Wen is an invaluable addition to the TIM school and I would recommend his being employed to
teach more graduate level courses. He makes the students LEARN. Who would have thought I would
enjoy going to an information technology class?
Recommendation: The final paper is OVERKILL. 50 required sources limits the learning. 30 or even
40 sources would allow for more time to actually engage in the content of the journal articles and
make for a better final paper.
Some comments to student come from a place of caring but can be interpreted in a negative way.
Please try not to compare students to each other, even if it is meant as inspiration. |
