22. How did the instructor show concern for students?

everytime he would give us a task he would ask if we had anymore other questions and if we understood what we were doing. Sometimes telling students what to do and tell them what is their grade once in awhile. he met students individually to see how they were doing in class and if were passing his class or not. The students that were not passing he opted them to drop the class. He said that if we needed help for our assignments then we should go to tutoring on Fridays because hes gonna be there. He gives a second chance to do our missing works or missing assignments. Teacher always offers personal tuturing and keeps students informed of thier progress. Norman Takeya's concern for all of his blueprint students is strong. He provides help in and out of class. He explains lessons in a way everyone on the class can understand. I wasn't sure about the other students, but in my books he is a keeper for the Honolulu Community College. Helped when didn't understand he provided the help if it was needed and corrected others when wrong. He shows that he likes to help students who take the time to come in for help, and encourages that. He would call the students who are not doin well in class and try to encourage them to do better. Asked questions if everyone understood. As a good teacher should be He was the first ever teacher that actually told me I'd be good at doing something. He encouraged me to look into Construction Management and further my studies instead of stopping once I received my degree in EIMT. Mr.T shown that he is concern for students by always asking if they need help and motivates all his students. He'd ask students if we have a hard time on something. He asks us if we have questions,comments,and concerns. Also he is avaliable outside of class time. Allows students to come in for help he explains assignments clearly and he asks for questions. he takes the time to explain one on one how to properly do assignments and class projects. He shows concern by making himself available as much as he can. He explains the material until you understand it and I feel he is patient and knowledgeable. He would talk to them one on one and let them make up work. He treats his studens as individuals. Offering study sessions every friday. Checking up with them on their grades. Calls each student that is failing individually into his office to tell them what they can do to pass the course he tells us missing assignments and shows what assignments could be done to improve your grade. when he notices that anybody is stuggling with an assignment he helps them one on one He had tutoring services every once a week on a friday. He asks questions to make sure we understand the material being taught and he offers tutoring every friday. he would let us know and help us if we were not doing to good. Offers tutoring on fridays, also works with individuals when asked upon. Norman Takeya is dismissive! He is arrogant and throws students to the wind! he unfairly grades his students and becomes visibly irritated when students ask questions! He offered tutoring for those who needed extra help. Always ended the class with "comments? questions? concerns?" and had us up to date through emails. He allowed time for questions, comments and/or concerns. He also emphasized his Friday tutoring an encouraged students to come in if they need help. He takes time to help them and explains the question so they can get if more clearly and understand it better. He takes time out of his day to help his students outside of class. He reminded us a few times that he was available after class time for tutoring. He also stressed the importance of being able to read blueprints well to be a good electrician. Mr.Takeya provided blueprints and materials for class. He also let the class make up missing assignments. Free tutorials every friday,(which is not a class day). He asks questions. he took time to know them helping them out He has tutoring every Friday which open to all of his students. He is glad to help his students to succeed in his class. He is available for help and has tutoring on his non class days no comment Norman Takeya shows concern for students is that he tell us our grades and explained to us which assignments are missing. He also explains how we can improve our grades. One way to improve our grades is doing the module project. Mr. Takeya shows concern for students by providing a tutor class on fridays. HE would come around the table and see who would need help. And he would have Friday open to his class if you need any more help. He would give individual attention to struggling students. Reminds people about the work and projects He always lets the students know that he is available for tutoring after class. Also he say if you cant make it to the tutoring to let him know so that he can make arrangements to meet with you. Norman Takeya showed concern for students by explaining things that were uncertain by the class. He always asked us if we understood each lesson. In my case he helped me one on one to help me figure out the questions that i was concerned about, as well as others... He walks around the classroom and gives each student one-on-one time to answer and explain out questions thoroughly Mr. Takeya was very reasonable with deadlines for projects when i had family troubles and was very understanding about it. He encourages everybody to do all the things to do ahead of time. Made sure everyone understood the assignments,and did tutoring for those who needed help. If some students did not have the material for a certain homework he would come up with another assignment that would make it fair for everyone. He gave tutoring and helped students in any way that they needed. The way he walks around class to help students one on one explaining. Told them to come in for study hall if we needed help and told us what we can do to get our grade up.

23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

i liked how you would have to be the one to ask him for help. when he helped you he explained the way it suppose to be done and the steps. Nothing i like how everything is, from the homework to the classwork. i have nothing to dislike about this class. I liked the way he explained things. He was very helpful. If you didn't understand something, he would go over it again until you got it. I liked his course because he made it easy to understand and he made it a little fun aswell. I didn't like the fact that we had all these questionairs at the same time of our project. I like the way he organizes things that make the subject more clear. He explain some details that are necessary in the course. Real world construction trade approach to class instruction, wealth of trade secrets. What liked most about his teaching is the time and availability he sacrifices for his students. He is very well organized and gets every student in the class on their toes. There isn't really anything to complaint about him except the jokes he provided for us during class. Can't take everything serious, unless we really need to focus on what we find hard to learn about, but really there is no problem whatsoever. The real life aspect that the teacher gave i disliked that he doesn't go through definition completely. He was a nice teacher and good to get along with. He was a teacher who was down to earth and worked well with his students I like how he didn't evaluate us based on our test scores but more on our hard work and our interest in the class. I especially liked about the way Mr.T taught this course by explaining the subject in a way that we could understand. i liked how he gave us formulas to get the exact measurements of things. At first disliked this class because I thought it was irrelavent to my major Welding, but as the weeks went by It all made sense to me that drafting helps alot in welding. It gives me a visual idea of things. Carpentry and Welding I can now see the similarities. His help he makes the course easy to understand he moves fast I liked his patience wih the class and willingness to help out with the work. I disliked that sometimes there was no lesson and maybe only a quiz for the class period. How he worked with us one on one.Came around and explained how things were done.Was open minded. Very Specific and direct with his approach funny teacher with a lot of interesting stories about the field and he tells us about his personal experiences and that helps us see why we need to learn this stuff I like the way we do repetitive assignments so that we eventually catch on to what we're learning if we didnt get it the first time. i liked how he tried to make it easier to understand his work. Very fun. I dislike his course! although i know the subject matter well! others students dont know and they struggle horribly! i like how he kept us doing things over and over because before i had his class i never knew anything and now i learned a lot about blueprints. It's challenging course because of the amount of work he gives out but it only makes you want to try harder. I like how the class was straightforward, simply pay attention and do the work. Also being able to work with others to collaborate ideas and solutions made for more productivity during class. What I like about his class is that I got taught how to ready blue prints and why we need to know and what it is used for. Also I liked that we got to do a project that we got to build a house that was fun. I liked that he was a cool/chill teacher (most of the time) and sometimes joked around with us. I didn't like that he handed out assignments and left it up to the students to ask questions about what we didn't understand. I would have enjoyed the class more if he handed out assignments and then helped to explain some of the more difficult concepts on the chalkboard. Mr.Takeya knew a lot about reading blueprints and working in construction. I liked that he taught us how to read blueprints and work in the real world. I like his sense of humor. Very little or no explanation to every lesson we had. Always bookwork. it was very hands on. dislike- nothing like-everything I dislike how he answers questions vaguely and how he sometimes make students feel scared to ask questions. Students are scared that he will think their question is dumb to ask. Liked how he made sure we understood the material before moving on no comment I like about this course is the way Norman Takeya reached us how to use a site plan. Also, how to draw the different 3D dimensions and what each type of wood was called on a house framing. I really liked the way he taught this class because I was able to learn a lot than I expected. I thourghly enjoyed Mr. Ts class. He is a fun teacher who cares deeply about his work and makes it enjoyable. Liked everything If we had questions he would answer them. also if he knew the class was not ready to move on to the next subject he would stay with the same one till he knew the class would be able to do it. I especially liked that he would help us if we asked him. I liked how clearly he taught the course nothing I like how he showed interest in our success, but also showed a sense of "though love". He didn't baby us throughout the course. He basically treated us like we were on a jobsite I liked how Mr. Takeya took his time with teaching us the material to fit our individual learning speed. I like him because he always entertains questions from students. He explained every assignment very clearly and gave a good amount of time to complete it which would allow all the students have time to do other class homework. Things would change from the syllabus due to some students angering the teacher. Everyone shouldn't be punished for the actions of a few students. The examples that he gives are all his real experiences he had on the job. I really enjoy those because they help me a lot. Building the model

24. What else would you like to say about this instructor/course?

its not an easy class but its not difficult either. you have to pay attention to the things he teaches. Nothing i like the project, because it helped me understand it more. I would take a course if he was an instructor any day. nothing More projects. Less book work. This course was very informative, yet simple. As long as you kept up with the reading and came to class, you learned something. This Blueprinting class is well lead with a one of kind teacher. Mr. Takeya makes it possible for everyone to pass the class, no matter how steep the hill. I for sure know Takeya can make it possible for the class coming next semester. be prepared for lots of work Hes a good teacher. Fun, can be stressful at times, but fun overall He has been an amazing teacher and I wish there were more like him. i would like to say that it would be great to have him again as my professor because he makes it fun to learn in his class and makes it easier to understan it. the house project was fun This class was a little awkward at first because just looking at the Blueprints confused me alot until the lightbulb went on. its a fun class he should use cheaper books He has a great attitude. People just need to know how to work with him and not against him. The course is okay.. Need it for welding.. He has done his job because I have learned how to read a blueprint. That is all Mr. Takeya needed to teach. Hes an awesome professor.Wonderful teacher. He's for your best interest. Great teacher blueprinting is hard It seems like a tough course to take but you just gotta be patient and not expect to catch on the first day. Mr. Takeya is a good teacher and will help you exceed in class. great teacher. Mr.T has a great sense of humor. makes class laugh every class meet. flee his course! he is a COOL teacher!!! This class has helped me understand blueprinting and made me use a lot of critical thinking independently and with others. I truly learned a lot by taking this course. And it's information that I know will come in handy in the future. He is a very good teacher he helps you in many different ways. He make things fun to do when we get assignments and he is a really cool teacher. Nothing. The class was very interesting and I will definitely be using what I learned from this class at work. more discussions and explanantions please. hands on course, interactive recommend it! Great Class! Overall, he knows his material very well. I encourage students going into engineering, construction, welding, carpentry, or other applied trades to take his class. I learned a lot. Take his course if you want to learn blue print no comment I would like say if you know how to build the module project by the end of this course, you definitely learned something in Blueprint reading. This class was confusing in the beginning but after all the practices I got to understand more and more every class. It was by far my favorite class this semester. Fun course learned a lot Fun enjoyable. just do your work and come to class I would like to say that this course was kind of difficult, but if you do your work and pay attention it is doable. It is very educational. Overall it was a fun course. I learned a lot and am ready to take the information I learned into the real world very informational and helpful in real life work situations. Mr. Takeya is a very friendly teacher. Mr.Takeya is the first cool/chill teacher I know but yet makes sure you learn something when you leave his class every time. The course is very straightforward. He is a good teacher that puts things simply straightforward and if you don't like it then you shouldnt be taking his class. Highly recommended, this class will teach everything that u need to know and have fun while learning. Nothing

25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

yes i would recommend this professor to other students. the help is there if you speak up and you just have to pay attention. yes, i would recommend him to other students because he is a great teacher Yes, because you learn what you're supposed to yes i will because it is every helpful and teaches pretty good. Yes. He is a knowledgeable instructor. yes because he made it fun to be in blueprinting class. Yes, I recommend Norman Takeya to other students because he's a good teacher. He gets along well. Its not hard to reach him when you have problems on the course. Yes Mr Takeya is a motivated instructor with a passion for sharing his knowledge. It's a guarantee, one-hundred percent, positive Yes for me. I would personally recommend Takeya for students coming up the next few years. He has high standards for students, but if he needs to slow down his pace for a few students, he will. It wouldn't be a surprise if I see Takeya next semester in school. yes because he is a good teacher yes i would, he would go teach blueprint reading pretty clearly. Yes because the class is easy to pass if they just do the work. Yes because in his class you learn alot and he makes it easy to learns Absolutely. Mr. Takeya goes out of his way to make sure his students succeed. It's very hard to fail his class and if someone does, its usually because they probably just didn't care enough. i would recommend Mr.T to other students who would wish to have a great learning experience and at the same time, have fun going to his classes. they should go to mr. takeya because he's the best blue print teacher i have had yet. Yes I would because he has a sense of humor and he can be very funny. When its time to be serious he will be serious with you. He can make teaching this class fun and understanding. Yes yes beacause you learn alot yes. even though his class is hard, its a good challenge to actually see if you can do the work. I would because he is knowledgable and patient. If a student wants to learn, he is more than willing to help them out. They can learn alot in this trade. Yes, great teacher for learning blueprint reading yeah he knows what he;s doing, Yes because he knows what he's teaching, he's a good teacher. yes yes. I definitly dont recommend him! he has little time for students and has encouraged students to drop his course! yes...if you show him that you're trying he will help you as much as he can. I would recommend Mr. Takeya, he's a challenging teacher but nothing in life is easy! Yes, if you want to learn more about blueprint reading and to be challenged in the process. Yes I would recommend my teacher to other students because he is a fair teacher he respects all the student and you get to learn new things that you have never learned before. He also prepares you for your future job. I'm neutral. If you have the discipline/time to look up problems in your textbook and ask questions during class time and/or come to after class tutoring, then yes. I would recommend this class to other students because you learn a lot about blueprints and construction. Neutral. yes he takes time to talk with you. Yes! you learn a lot and its fun! Yes, because he knows his material very well, students learned a lot, and most of the work hands-on and independent. He trains his students to figure out answers on their own. yes, very knowledgable in his course yes, he makes sure that if you dont understand the course material by middle of semester, he recommends dropping class before he fails students Yes, I would recommend Norman Takeya to other students because he's very understandable and nice guy to talk to. Yes I would recommend this class to students that are only willing to put work and time in this class because if you don't you can easily fail his class especially if you don't show up to some classes. But overall I liked this class and I think students should take his class. Yes... He is a great teacher who makes the material fun to learn. Yes, good teacher heard people took this course from other teachers and didnt like it, i had fun Funny teacher, also knows what he is talking about when it comes to the subject. also he is willing to help anyone at anytime I would recommend Norman Takeya to other students because he is a good teacher and cares about his students. His lectures are nothing extraordinary but he shows concern in the students' work that comes afterwards yes because he is very comparable to a boss in the industrial industry but more understanding about mistakes. Yes, I recommend him to other students. He explains everything clearly and will learn something that will help when you go into your program. Yes, great teacher. None nope. Always be friendly. It makes us more open to you. Keep up the good work Mr. Takeya. Mr T tries so hard to motivate his students to learn and i feel his efforts are wasted on some students who really dont care. I feel better screening policies should be implemented to prevent such a horrible waste. I NOW KNOW HOW TO SPEAK GERMAN(Read Blueprints)!!!!! no. Keep up the good work Mr. Takeya! I'll definitely be looking into Construction Management. Thanks for the recommendation. It meant a lot to me. N/A n/a I think Norman Takeya is one of my best instructors I ever had and its been fun being in his class. good class i appreciate his will to motivate us to succeed in completing this course I love Mr.Takeya. I think he's a wonderful person ans a wonderful professor and teacher. You the best!! Should i have any? I think he doesnt belong in teaching! he is impatient! he is not nice and he is arrogant! Thank you for a great year! Thank for being my teacher I had a lot of fun doing plans. How to read them and now I can use them in my future job. I had a lot of fun building the house it was a challenge but it was fun. I like turtles. All in all this is a great class. Nothing nope good course good teacher. not a fan of him "punishing" the entire class for individual students messing up. other than that, recommend to other students. (: Thank you Mr.T I learned a lot that would help me in my career and home repairs. Mr. Takeya is a nice teacher. He is very helpful to his students and he shows care for his students. 22. How did the instructor show concern for students?

hes always available for help. I have him for another subject, he offers a lot of assistance if you have any questions. He would give time for students to do the work and turn it in if necessary. Whenever there is a time where we don't understand something or need help, we can always send an e-mail or go to his office for help and he'll take the time to explain it to you. He was always available to explain and answer questions. Very prompt with responding to emails or issue that arose with assignments, tests, projects, and Laulima. He would contact us to check on our progress. Provided expert advice and advised us of opportunities in the field with scholarships, etc. If students have questions concerning assignments, he made sure everyone knew he was available to answer questions. He tried to accommodate students' schedules for meetings. He was understanding about individual concerns or issues with regard to assignment due dates. He was always willing to help, you just had to ask. Mr. T is flexible and accommodating. He really goes above and beyond when his students need help. He understands life happens. Although it was an online course he set aside time for students needed extra help with more complex portions of the course to meet in person and go over the material and questions. yes! Norman is one of the best teachers I ever had! I would be a college drop out and going no where with my life if it wasn't for his influence.

23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

I liked how we had the wednesday class because the material was hard but it died out because no one was coming to it... this is the first time i took an online class. I like how efficient it was to email him and his response would be fast. I liked that the corse was online. I dislike how this class was an online class and I felt like we didn't absorb as much information as we could have if this was an actual class. He was very organized and was always available for help. He shares his valuable knowledge with us! He had a lot of experience working in this industry and he shared his experiences. He had a lot of interesting insight and perspective on various situations. Online courses require a lot of self discipline. I like that Mr. T related the subject matter to the real world and real world applications. I like that Mr. T was so knowledgeable and energetic about the subject matter and was really always available for questions. Ability to apply the concepts in projects. I'd like for this course to be in class rather then online, but Mr Takeya explained this well, and opened his office to us any time to come see him if he had questions.

24. What else would you like to say about this instructor/course?

I dont think cmgt 100 should be an online course. the material is hard to be self taught. I feel that this should be a course thats held in class. Construction management came hand in hand with the blueprinting class. its good corse but alot to take in at once. He is a great professor that is genuinely concern about his students. The course was more involved than I thought it would be, but that is probably my expectation. There were some sections that were more in depth than I thought was necessary for an introduction class. Mr. Takeya mentioned he was using a different text book this semester and may return the one he used previously. Mr. T rocks, keep it up! This course is challenging because it uses a lot of ideas not known to most people, however, I feel I am more prepared for work in the real world because of it. Good course and instructor, would prefer to have as an in class course rather than online.

yes he's helpful If you like a trade where you use your brains, not your body. I recommend this class because you'll use a lot of it!! yes i would because he will hear you out on whats going on with you and alter things for you if approatly needed. I would recommend Mr. Takeya to other students because he is an overall friendly guy, easy and fun to talk to, and provides help as long as you ask. Yes. He is one of the best professors in the Construction Management Major. He is fair and very helpful. Yes, he was a great instructor. He made class interesting. He always seemed willing to help if you asked. He didn't usually just give you the answer outright, but pointed you in the right direction. Definitely! Mr. T is an outstanding teacher, he is fun, and makes class interesting. He is extremely approachable and explains concepts well! Yes, he cares about the students, is passionate about the program and has a lot of experience in the industry to share with students. YES! He's one of the few college professors that still cares about his students. A lot of my teachers do this just for a pay check and don't care about their students. Mr. T is a great teacher!HE CARES

This is my first on-line class so I'm don't really have any comparison. I've taken on-line training, but there wasn't an instructor that you could email or discuss problems with. You just read the material, answer the questions and receive a certificate. I would take another on-line class from HCC.

by giving lots of work to do like quiz, tell back, discussion every week. He is a good guy, and he also talks to his student. He's willing to help them in any way he can to have them understand. He will explain what is needed to be done. He would try find a way to help the students, that are failing, to raise their grades higher. Mr. T. show concern for students by explaining and giving examples on how important it was to stay abreast daily with the course load. For me personally, his concern is held in high regard due to his compassion and empathy for my attempting to seek a higher education, in the field of "Architectural Design Indigenous to Hawaii". In my meetings with him one on one he is genuine a unique individual, well rounded in his expertise on "construction Management", tells it like it is the "truth" and is in a professional manner very upfront gentleman. I highly recommend Mr. T. course to everyone entering into the trade and construction field. Thank you Mr. T. for your kindness and shared knowledge in this course. he showed concerns by understanding that students not only have this class so in turn he is lenient in the assignments we have to do. He make sure students do their assignment and have announcements nearly every week and informs us on our progress and what we will be doing in the following week He would send reminders on the home page of laulima reminding the students that we needed to finish somethings before a certain date, and sometimes giving us a week or so notice on it. worked with students to help them He showed concerns for students through the announcements he had sent us through laulima. n/a Because this class only meets once a week, Mr. T always posted announcements to keep us on track with assignments and classwork. He always responded to my emails quickly. He tells students that are falling behind to contact him for help or see him after class. He didn't. He let the people strive for their own excellence. If people didn't do their work week after week, they would still get second chances. Sad that many people dropped out because they thought there was too much work. I thought there was too much work, but that's no reason to give up and die. Mr. Takeya showed concern for the students by asking us if we understood or if we needed help through out the course. He didn't want any of the students to fail. he pointed out the facts about people not doing well in class with out mentioning names to expose them and make them feel pick out. Not too sure Personally, he's really attentive to my weaknesses and is sincere in helping me work through them. I find him to be very outgoing and easy to talk to which makes seeking his help really comforting. Mr.Takeya encourage us to do our best mostly through Laulima, and he always ask to the class who have any questions, comments, or concerns. He allowed for opportunities for students to get ahead when they started to fall behind He continuously let us know he's available to help us. And if people were behind, he showed concern on helping them catch up. Norman Takeya shows his concern for his students by sending us e-mails and informs us in the announcements that students whose grades are dropping (like I was in the beginning) to come see him in his office and talk to him. After I met with him, he gave me useful advice, and now I understand the focus of this course and I am passing. He showed concern by interacting with students on the discussion board. Mr Takeya would listen to the concerns and question we had for assignments and would offer help. He opted to help me out if I didn't understand the material. He was willing to go over material with me outside of class so I could do better. He didn't have to do that but he offered to, awesome. He respond right away to emails concerning work or any inconveniences on assignment submissions and etc. He also takes time to really read and even leave comments here and there through our tellbacks or messaging board. He emailed me and offered help. Made sure everyone was timely with due dates. He is always available. For me, he gave me an email so I could meet up with him to discuss my grades. He adds reminders in his announcements. He is also available for help if you need it. Allowing time to answer emails of questions quickly and also, changing things quickly if there was a descrepancy. Mr. Takeya was always available if I needed extra help in class. He is very responsive through emails as well. He tells beforehand the deadlines, what to do for the week, and tells the class how we did the previous week

23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

like: he gave a lot of interested examples, sometime stories. dislike: too many works to do. He explain well, and he also send us a weekly info about the class just in case we forgot our activities. I like all the PowerPoint he shows us because it's super interesting to me. I have no dislike in this class. What I especially liked about this course was his great ability to deliver via lecture tremendous amounts of information in a very broken down understandable manner. He is truly a great instructor. He knows exactly what the industry is about and his direct yet gentle keen manner in which he delivers the information is very admirable. What I especially enjoyed was when directed upon to comment he always allowed me to explain myself and be recognized for my efforts. Thank You Mr. T. He taught us interesting ways and ideas on how to be self sustainable and how to make our island a better more efficient place. He understands what he is teaching and he uses his past experience in the field to teach his students I liked a lot of the videos he showed, as well as the pictures and what he explained to us about his trip to Japan, it was really interesting on how Japan can make working and living in such small spaces possible, and the no litter on the streets was amazing. disliked the amount of time needed to invest outside of class for 1 credit I enjoyed the videos he had shown us that related to the subjects we would discuss in class. They were very interesting. n/a I like that Mr. T was very straight forward about what we will be covering and what would be expected from us. I think that the inclass/online format works well for this course. I like that we used laulima to turn in all assignments and quizzes. I like how he is open to any discussions dealing with the subject of the course. I dislike deadlines on different chapter. I feel that it is better to work in your own pace. I liked that Mr. Takeya was straight foward with the class. Didn't beat around the bush, didn't give a crap what others though and gave his opinion strongly. It's something you don't get with any teacher because they are afraid that someone will get offended and they will lose their job. Mr. Takeya's attitude is something we need in more classes. Teachers afraid to say things are only hindering the students in learning. I disliked how during class, he would just sometimes show us a powerpoint presentation. It wasn't very interesting. However, I did enjoy working on the final project for the course. I like that he told us the truth about the green building industry and trys not to B S people. what i didn't like is that he change alot of things each weekly. Tells us that we need to discuss in class, but doesnt provide good grounds to dicuss (yes or no questions or questions with simple answers) so we have to do a summary of the next chapter, not very fair. He HATES the green concept. Quick to shoot down ideas he doesnt fully accept. I couldnt open documents he posts on Laulima, and I asked him to changed to an older format or just post it so we can just read it on laulima, but he said he is already trying to accommodate other students and didnt do anything about it. So I couldnt do homework at home, I had to find time to do it at school when I didnt have work or other classes, which wasnt much time. I especially liked group discussions and hearing Mr. Takeya's take on the subject matters through his many years of experience. I like that the course is online, giving students flexibility to do their own pace. This course is all about sustainability, and it is a benefactor not only to construction but to the ways how we live a greener lifestyle. I did not like the skeptical tone he had when addressing green building. It is in my opinion that the material should be taught and the student allowed to make his or her own judgements based on that. I did like the research product assignments and the building assignment I really liked the way Norman Takeya motivates us to succeed in this course. He is a very honest person and will tell you like it is. I really enjoyed this course. I like how the class was to the point and one of the requirements were to post on other students topics to give an opinon on how we felt on a particular topic or chaptper of that week. I liked that he encouraged us with positive feedback whenever we shared during class discussions. I really liked the format of everything about the class. The list of what to do, the assignments, quiz's, dates when there do, the grades layout. I really liked it and showed he was extremely organized and ready to rock and roll. I liked how he was really thorough with all the assignments and material taught on this online course. Very encouraging The layout of the course was really straightforward and easy to understand. I liked that for most of the discussions, we had to apply the topic to our own lives or research a product that Ive never heard of. He made the course interesting. There is a lot of time for the assignments. A very tiny problem i had is that sometimes he does not respond to emails. I took this as an online course. I liked that each period was available for the whole week. I maybe would have liked being in the regualar class, as it might have been more interesting, though this interfered with the time of my other classes. I really liked how he set up an open forum for class discussion. It is online....can do it at anytime I am free....and there is a week for a topic, which is good....

24. What else would you like to say about this instructor/course?

I would say that he is a good and fun teacher. interesting course and teacher His class is super easy and fun. He is also a cool and funny teacher. Finally the encouragement he has given me and that gentle professional smile and nod of approval will always be with me throughout my career and professional now and in the future. His character and demeanor though astute and direct he throws no punches and tells it like it is and i respect that in him. Thank you Mr. T. He seems to have lots of experience to teach this subject of being sustainable. Very good teacher, knowledgeable, a lot of experience in construction and he really understand what he is teaching I think that there was a lot to do on a weekly basis for a 1 credit course, but it did help a little to make us understand it a little better. the course need to be more than 1 credit It is a good course if you like discussions and lectures about the subject. N/A Overall, mr Takeya is a good professor. I learned many new things about green building practices from mr Takeya and this course. overall its good. Read the question before. I feel that this course serves as an important preparation for other students trying to enter the construction field. The course teaches the future generation of Architects, Contractors, and any other type of construction worker the way to build sustainably and build "Green". Overall this class was fairely easy. This course really does teach you a lot about the "Go Green" movement and opens your eyes as to how easy it is to construct/convert your home to a more eco friendly building. Takeya's assignments really do help you look more into the process and materials in a surprisingly easy way....Although it is also just as easy to fall back if you take it too lightly. I would like to say that he should keep up the good work and I really enjoyed his class. It was a great course for my first online college class. Very helpful Great course. I really liked that he was always available if you needed help. It is a useful course. I talked more to other students than in my classes where it is heavy computer work. This is an interesting course, and I would recommend it to students who are interested in building with green materials and ideas. It is a very interesting class. The class structure is excellent and I wouldn't change a thing. I really like the project...because it makes me think of things then assemble it....more like creating it....

I think I would because in his class if you do all the work every week, I sure you will pass 100%. Sure, he is a nice guy. Yes, because you will enjoy his class and you learn a lot of green materials. He believes that his students will create a better and greener society. I would not. Only because of the workload. It's a great class if it was strictly discussion and this class was more than 1 time a week. I would enjoy coming in twice a week to talk about the chapter we were supposed to read. It would become evident who didn't read in the class if we had discussions on just the chapter at hand. Yes, I would recommend Norman Takeya to other students. I would like to thank each and everyone I met through my career path, especially the trade instructors and Mr. T. for giving me the opportunity to excel and move forward in seeking my Architectural path towards U.H. Manoa. Especially my career counselor Shari Caresman who has been extremely helpful in being patient and understanding with me. God Bless you all. Loved this class. Would get rid of the tell-back with people having more in- depth discussions on the discussion board. It's sad to see people typing one sentence to get it done. Take away the tell-back and grade way more harshly on the content people post on the discussion board. Having an in depth discussion with classmates allows us to learn, rather than regurgitate what the book told us. I've enjoyed learning about green building practices from this course. none A waste of my time and extremely inconvenient for 1 stupid credit. I had to spend more time on homework for this class than my english class. He should at least act like he's interested in the matter. Make open ended questions for class, maybe have debates on the subjects to pull students into the subject. Chapter summaries are stupid, there is so much information to "put in your own words." Quizzes are a waste of time, he should know why, especially since we type the entire book to him in our own words. I think Norman knows all this material just fine but it seems as though he is not passionate about it. It would be nice to see him embrace his knowledge to pass on to students Good Course. It should remain a requirement to anyone trying to enter the construction field. None Great job Mr. Takeya Mahalos! It teaches you responsibility in that you are more accountable for your learning. Participation in the online course allowed me to understand the material. Though, it would have been even better in face-to-face format, though, this was my only option as it interfered with the time of my other required classes. Overall, the course was fine, though, the book used I find explains things well, though it repeats things that otherwise could be condensed, which takes more time than needed.

Mr. Takeya is always willing to help me whenever I have questions. He is encouraging and helps me better myself by constantly pushing me and allowing me to correct mistakes I've made, rather than excepting the incorrect work. He asks students for help to make sure all students are on the same page. When help is needed from a student, he helps them almost immediately. He's always helping before and after class repeating steps for students. He was always availible for help. He made it sure that students knew they could see him for any help. Norman strongly encourages the students to ask for help, and work with others in the class through any roadblocks. He recognizes potential of students and encourages themm to raise their educaional goals. The was there to help whenever we needed it. Mr. Takeya answered any question about the class, both inside and outside of class time. He also took the time to explain concepts to the entire class at once, if the same question came up repeatedly from individual students. He takes time and understand that everyone is not on the same page.

23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

I especially liked that Mr. Takeya included humor in the classroom. He always makes class very enjoyable. I like his half lecture and half practice (lab) style. He explains what is needed and expected He was very understanding. He let us learn by doing things ourselves. I especially like the way he allows his students to discover solutions on their own. He slyly provides individual assesment of each student and then gives you just enough help to go on and discover solutions on your own. How passionate he was about his subject and how helpful he was. What I especially liked was that Mr. Takeya brought in examples from his own experience to illustrate the importance and applicability of what we were learning. I also like the fact that the course was meant to be relevant for any field where CAD can be used, as opposed to limiting its scope to one particular application (for instance, to the design of industrial equipment).

24. What else would you like to say about this instructor/course?

Although Mr. Takeya is fun and an easy-going teacher, he does expect a lot from his students when it comes to the class work. He is a great teacher and I feel I have learned a lot from him. I especially appreciate that he welcomed myself and my classmates to see him for tutoring or any other help we may need during our future semesters here at HCC, which proves how committed he is to help us succeed. He is always helpful to students even after class although some teachers are not. I like the way he explains and shares his concerning against matters based on not only from textbooks also his experience. 9 out of 10!! It was a fun course. The course was awesome for me. I feel prepared to move on to next level of this subject area. Great fun course. He males you get interested in learning and he actually wants you to learn. Another thing I liked about Mr. Takeya was the approach he took to teaching students. While he lectured (and lectured very well), he also encouraged students to think things through when using CAD. This motivated all of us to think through difficulties that came up in the course of using CAD. This is, I would imagine, probably a skill that is vital for people in the industry.

25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

Yes, I would definitely recommend Mr. Takeya to other students. If they are looking for a fun and rewarding class, Mr. Takeya is the professor to have. Yes, I strongly recommend him to other students. He is really easy going, flexible and helpful teacher. Yup^.^ Yes, because he is very understanding and helpful. Yes I would because he's a real person. I'm older than all the student in class and I recognize when an instructor truly cares about the students. I would because he is really here to help the student learn. I would recommend him, for all of the reasons mentioned above.

Thank you so much for all lectures, sharing experience, and encouraging me to do the best work through this summer class. I'm so glad to have had him as a teacher of my first AEC. Nope. As a single parent, busines owner, returning student, getting back into a classroom was a challenge for me. Norman has been extremely patient and supportive. Although I've earned degrees in the 1980's,much has changed since then. However just as back then, it's a pleasure to find a professor that can push the right buttons to individually challenge each student yet provide enough support for us to be successful. Great teacher, caring attitude towards students and willing give up his free Friday to help students. Allowing out of class help and accommodating to students needs. He would come up to you and tell you if you are doing bad in class. Help outside class. Gave time to come in on their own time to ask for help. HE was very intersting, the material was good, and his way of teaching was very good!!! Strong recommendation ! He suggested his students if they need any help with any classwork by giving his office hours of his availability, or tutor students on Fridays in his classroom. Reminding us everyday to finish out homework and work on the projects He takes time to talk to student if they are having trouble in class to help them understand, he also gives students opportunity to come in to tutoring classes if they are falling behind Takeya always ask questions to students, before leaving class, if they have any questions about the section. He would walk around the class while we are doing our work. he then asks the students who looks like they are struggling if they need help. always gave us a second chance to come in for tutoring. helped a lot which it came to learning how to read the blueprint he would ask students to make sure that they are prepared in passing blueprint or otherwise withdraw it. makes sure everyone knows how to answer the questions. he did a goodjob He help those who are in need of help. He was always willing to help during and outside of class when he could. He offers friday help when students are willing to attend. Offers help both in class and outside of class. If you needed extra help w/class work, he made himself readaly avalible for totoring. Like the final project that we are doing. He encouraged as to do the project earlier and we can ask him about the project. He also doing the project himself to show to us how we would do it. He showed it by giving us a chance to redo our quizzes if we fail it. he gives the students for asking questions I notice if someone is having a bad day he tries to make the whole class laugh and he gets at least a smile out of someone. He lets his students know when he is available to help with any homework. Once in a while he will give extra credit to those who miss a test. It only happened once. He talks loud so you wont miss a thing. he would give us chances to make up for those who miss their quizzes or test . Make sure we understood what he was teaching.

The application to work related problems. I like the way he would make jokes once in a while. Fun. I like how he makes the work seemed interesting and how he makes it simple. na he was good! I like how Mr. Takeya teaches this course by his lectures, how he shows examples of what/how blueprint reading is all about. How this course is required for career majors like Electrical Installation, Construction, Welding, Automotive. There were no dislikes about Mr. Takeya. I like the simplicity of how he explains homework of how it should be done It's a very interesting course, very challenging at times and not only pencil and paper work but it's also hands on I like the way Takeya taught this course by giving the students examples of parts of a building and showing us what it looks like to understand a section. i like how he made this course open notes on tests.. it was really straight forward. i really like the model project because you come across the same problems carpenters come across and how to fix it. i disliked how it was really based on carpentry i like how he extremely knows his stuff. Was straight to the point not getting off subject The way he teach was easy enough to understand. He was patient and gave a lot of work to do so that we could understand the course. He didnt always give you the answer to some questions if he knew that you knew it. he is down to earth with his assignments Makes good examples and assignments to learn the course material He is very knowledgable about the course he teaches...and does it in a way u can understand. In this course, I like the project that he gave us. It's very interesting because we can build a mini house. I dislike how Mr. T explain how to do the work. he don't really eplaine it that much. make me felt headcahe but i like it! He works thru a problem on the bored very neatly and detailed, like calculating how much concrete or the total bored feet. He lets us know if there is an error on the worksheets so we don't stress. like that he's a laid back teacher. don't really have a dislike. The subject I learned and the teacher.

The course work is very well planned out and very applicable for future use. Mr. Takeya and blueprint reading is awesome. Its very interesting and fun to take! he was very nice to his students Mr. Takeya is an excellent teacher. He loves teaching blueprint readings, making new friends with the students. Nothing Great teacher, great course Takeya is really good at teaching the class when need to and also talk story to the students about anything that relates to blueprint reading. he is a hard teacher but he really does teach you a thing or two difficult he was really good at making something foreign in the beginning of the semester seem so easy to read during the end of the semester fun environment recommend people to take this class if they need it This course was fun. It's a great course that all electricians, welders, construction workers, or anyone in that type of field need to take. it was interesting and i learned alot from the course The course is pretty fast paced due to the amount of material that needs to be covered in just one semester. Yes, very good teacher I only recommend Takeya class to students that will take up contraction, carpentering, and/or electrical because blueprint reading will help that career out in the future. yes because he will make you earn your grade and that is what helps you learn yes because he knows a lot about the subject yes i would but i let them no to be sure you want to be in a trade because its harder than it seems yes because he teaches us from the very basic to difficult parts of reading and understanding blueprint. yes, because he will help you out if you need it. i would yes because it a fun class. 22. How did the instructor show concern for students?

He is a pretty fair guy, if you work is going to be late and you give him notice, he his very understandable to that. Also, he is very flexible with schedules, work, and understands we all have alot on our plates. Mr Takeya always encourages us to do our best. In the case we are still in need of assistance, we have his contact info and are able to meet with him during office hours. He constantly ask if anyone is having difficulties with the work. Email everyone He offered help outside of class through email and other means of communication. By keeping an on-going dialogue with those who are falling behind. He is also available during office hours and/or email for extra help. This was an online course and the instructor repeatedly encouraged students to keep up with the schedule and ask for help He made sure that students knew that he was available outside of class times. He pushes us to email him or message him any concerns or questions we have. Since this was an on-line course some of the questions do not directly apply, but I can still tell by the feedback and the way assignments were constructed that this is a teacher who is fair and cares about the students. I would enjoy being in any class he teaches. He gave me clear feedback and was very understanding when I asked questions in the beginning. Since this was my first on-line course I was a bit lost at first, but Mr. T was very helpful. yes, he always helps us if we need help

23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?

I appreciate how Mr. T asks questions and gets us to think in the group discussions. There is a lot of new and interesting information about the construction industry taught in this course. His knowledge of the subject. the class was graded very good I like the application of content to real work practices. The material was very straight-forward, as were the expectations for the course. I like that Mr. Takeya encouraged class discussion via the online forum Enjoyed this class it was outlined and followed a specific routine, no surprises. This class should be worth more than just 1 credit with the amount of reading and writing that goes into it. It's a good class and deserves more credit. I liked the way he applied it to everyday life, and how he allowed students to express their personal thoughts and ideas. i espeically liked that he would email us everytime and shows he cared for what we did. I liked how it was consistent each week, and it was very clear what was expected of me. Assignments were not an overload as some classes can be, but I learned soooooooooo much about green building. This course is a great gift to me, my future, and the people who will buy and live in the homes that I will design. yes, I learned and i had to push myself

YES! Mr. T is smart and knows his subject, he also has a good way of communicating and making points. He gets his students to think. Yes. It was very convenient and accessible. The freedom to work at my own leisure. I liked the course a lot, no complaints. Having to post discussion. If I wanted interaction with classmates, I would have taken an on campus class. N/A Lack of personal interaction. Lack of a classroom environment makes learning a little more challenging. That this class was only worth 1 credit. I really didnt like that I couldnt keep on track with my work because i was so swamped with other work. Getting to know how to use the on-line site was frustrating at first, but after a couple weeks I got the hang of it. Nothing
