8. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Suggestions were made with the intention of helping me to expand my thinking.
How the instructor provided us with a clear set of plans and expectations which will be helpful for us in fulfilling our Plan B requirement.
He worked with us and helped when we needed the help.
I though the collaboration between classmates was the most helpful in this class. A lot of the times I was very confused on what I was being asked to do or read. My classmates or group mates were valuable to have to clarify.
I found the structure of the course to be very valuable. Everything was designed to revolve around my particular project. I wasn't expected to read and reflect on how I felt about some article, instead the required course literature was designed to specifically assist in my personal project. The goal of the class was to create a proposal for a plan B project, and it seemed that everything we were asked to do guided us in that direction, without a lot of tangents.
Good, practical resource materials. Many resources available online, so we didn't need to buy books.
It helped me understand what a planB was all about, and how to get started.
The project of finding a topic and doing the Maxwell 5 was the most helpful. The starting of the template was also helpful. I now feel like I am on my way in getting my thesis done. I feel that I have a good start.
The templates and guides for writing the Plan B draft and the Maxwell 5 questions.
It helped me to realize what I have to do for my plan B.
The instructor helped me a lot with my research and the understanding of how to get my research started.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He was very knowledgeable about the content of the course. He was also very willing to help guide us in getting started on our Plan B's.
willing to help when needed
I also liked the idea that our Plan B project is getting started. It was heplful to have our professor there (face-to-face) when we had questions. I understood things better when we had face-to-face sessions. I had a difficult time learning what was presented when it was online.
I found the flexibility of the instructor to be very valuable. It seemed that this course is a very personal one. All of my classmates were working on their own individual projects, so it was nice that the professor was very flexible on what and when things were due. There were no specific dates on when a certain part or product was due, as long as I was working on it, the professor accepted it anytime. I also found the instructor's feedback on my ideas and his promptness of his feedback to be very helpful. If I submitted an assignment I would get feedback in a couple of days, if not the next day.
presented many good ideas and suggestions, personable, great sense of humor.
He has helped me get a good start on my plan B.
He gives lots of examples.
He is knowledgeable about the subject matter and offered time and resources on my topic. He allowed us to work in class so that he could guide us as we went through the process.
Tony was very knowledgeable and offered great suggestions.
The instructor was very helpful. He understood us as students and helped to make things easier. He is very understanding and easy to work with.
18. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
I enjoyed Tony's class and found it to be very informative and helpful. I feel that he helped us well on our way to beginning our Plan B's.
It was a little unclear of the expectations of the class, but he was very flexable and did what he could to help us out.
Even though our professor did help us along with our Project, I feel the work I produce is never enough or the right way he wants it. I would do the project one way in the hope that he likes it, otherwise I would have to do it again. It took me a long time to understand what he really wanted us to do for our plan B project. I also felt that time we spent face-to-face could have been used better. I spent a lot of time in class not knowing what the point of the activity or discussion was. I would have liked more time to work specifically on looking for research or working on our Plan B project.
Execllent. I feel that the instructor did a very good job in explaining his goals for us as students, and I really feel like he is doing everything in his effort to support us as researchers.
Excellent
He is a good teacher who knows his 'stuff'.
Good. Sometimes the things covered in class or abstract for me and I find that challenging and frustrating.
Excellent.
I really enjoyed Jose as an instructor. He really understands the course and allows us to expand our knowledge.

21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked that he gave us class time to work together in our groups while he went around and answered all the questions that we had.
I liked that we got to work on our Plan B project.
I liked the fact that the majority of the work revolved around my Plan B research project. Since the course mainly had me thinking and working on my own material, every assignment and article that we read has some direct impact on how I am going to go about my project. I found this to be very valuable
Relaxed atmosphere, open discussions with professor and students, had very positive outcome in exchanging ideas.
How the instructor encouraged us to work together.
Time in class to get things done with feed back from the instructor. It was the most helpful since I could use the time to get things done and get immediate feedback.
The face-to-face sessions.
I enjoyed the workshops and what we learned from it.
22. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
It could be improved if he told us exactly what he wanted at the end of the course. We were a little confused with this.
I took this course with another course and that was too much to take in one semester. I suggest taking these Plan B courses alone. The instructor could have been more clear on what we needed from the beginning of the course. I also did not find the presentations from the readings helpful. If the book really was worth reading, then he should have had us purchse it instead of printing it or reading it off the computer.
More face to face classes.
One/Two of the readings were very difficult to understand and I wasn't sure of their purpose.

8. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I do not think that this course is very much helpful. I am confused with the class content.
I had opportunities to look at my paper at many facets and understand my research situation better.
Before taking this course I have heard from senior graduate students that this course will help me develop my plan B paper, but I found nothing valuable. In my opinion it should be more knowledge about research skills. One thing that I found valuable through the semester is individual conference!!!!!
Absolutely: the one-on-one interaction with Tony. In an adviser capacity, he is really, really helpful. Very challenging and straightforward, asks a lot of good questions, lends a wealth of experience and knowledge to the situation, happy to answer questions and explain terms. . .I really learned a lot about my specific research project, and how to do it. I appreciated the lack of busy work and the many concrete, immediately applicable ideas.
being able to work on my Plan B paper - teacher allowed for us to meet with him individually as well as with the class. we were given many useful pointers in conducting our reserach and studies.
The most valuable thing about the course was getting some glimpses into what "educational research" is all about, in its various forms and for its various purposes.
This course served as a good capstone to my masterʻs study in Curriculum Studies. We were given the opportunity to work on our Plan B studies and to share our work with our classmates. I gained valuable feedback from the instructor because he structured class to allow for maximum progress toward the completion of our papers. This course was an appropriate end to my M.Ed. degree attainment.
Better understand research method How to present the result
Time to work on my own project. Encouragement to develop my interests in a meaningful way

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is willing to meet with students whenever they want his help.
I like his professional knowledge and experience of doing research.
Individual meeting with the instructor.
The instructor helped me deepen my knowledge of research methods and how to improve my Plan B. He made me aware of issues concerning my own research by asking thoughtful questions and suggesting new ways of thinking about my topic. Excellent personalized support!!!!
He obviously is very knowledgeable about research in the field of education. He is also good at getting this knowledge across. I appreciated the supplemental materials and the willingness to help with technological issues.
he was very approachable and offered a lot of advice
The instructor is very intelligent and well-versed in his field, so he has much to offer his students in terms of creative ideas about their work. He models an agile and adaptive mind. He embraces intellectual challenge.
Tony Torralba helped me process my data for my Plan B study. He made very helpful suggestions that assisted me in analyzing my interview data, which led to the successful completion of my Plan B paper. During class, he challenged me to think critically about the research process and about potential pitfalls to conducting research. He did not hesitate to correct us when we needed it, and he was also very encouraging. His knowledge and passion for research made us more open to the value of well-designed and well-executed studies. Lastly, he provided very valuable feedback, in and outside the classroom.
Face to face meeting
Encourages real inquiry for practical value as opposed to formal requirements.
18. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
I think that sometimes the professor imposes his ideas. In addition, he is too frank which makes students uncomfortable. He loves his teaching and students. He is willing to help students.
Overall, I had negative feelings toward this class. First of all, considering we should be taking this class during the last semester of this class, i thought it wasn't beneficial having students at all different stages of the Plan B enrolled. The range of stages was so diverse that it made it hard for the professor to accommodate each student. As a result, class sessions weren't as focused useful as I had anticipated. The professor was very arrogant and strongly opinionated which made it difficult for students to voice their opinions. I felt like he expected us to view research/strategies/approaches the same way he does and we were negatively criticized openly in class when we did not view things the same way he did.
He is very nice with students. He has a very good memory about students' research.
He is alright. But he needs to pay attention to all students in his class, not just a few good ones. I disagee with how he used obscured language through his communication.
He is a good instructor but he has to change the way of teaching because most of the time he talks a lot and students sit and listen to him. I think students can learn better if they have the opportunity to talk or discuss in a small group.
Outstanding course and instructor!!!
I thought Tony was probably the best professor I've had at UH, and I've taken 30 credits.
I did not learn well from this instructor. Although I intially was very respectful of his intelligence and knowledge, I lost respect over time because it seemed to me that his interactions with me were unprofessional. The instructor had told me that he was going to help with figuring out how to analyze data. He is an expert at this, and I looked forward to benefitting from his expertise. Before my personal meeting with him, I worked very hard to do a lot of reading so I could tell him where I was going with my work, so he could help me. I was sure that he would appreciate all the work I had done to read various authors and think hard about where I was going. Instead, I found that he did not approve of the method of my research, even though it had already been approved by my advisor, and he was quite harsh and adamant about his criticism. I did not see a real problem with this, because people can disagree about what is best, although I grew increasingly insulted as he continued to insist that my method was pretty much worthless. I was certainly not planning to change my whole project because of the instructor's opinion and I desperately wanted to move forward with my work. Before I left his office, I involuntarily wept from shame and frustration. I tried to see the professor's criticism constructively and to adjust my work so that he would approve. However, I was unable to keep working with him on my project, because the day after our meeting, he wrote that he was not the appropriate person to work with me on it! I thought that this was quite strange--how could my work be so awful that my professor cannot even talk to me about it?? I started to think that he just didn't LIKE me and that he was taking his dislike out on me by refusing to help me. I could be wrong, but I kept trying to work with him and to understand his criticism, via email, but his responses were very short and uninformative and, apparently, uninterested. At one point, I thought that he was implying that I was pestering him with emails, when he said I should stop asking for advice about a program that he said he would help me with. Again, my evaluation is: UNPROFESSIONAL. I have paid a lot of money for my tuition, and I expected al my professors to be willing to work with me, regardless of their opinions of me or my work. I was not the only student who was brought to tears by the instructor's harsh comments.
one of high praise. Tony Torralba was a very effective professor who treated the course the way it should be treated. He guided us along with his expertise and passion for research and education. I was challenged to think critically about educational research and its implications on my practice as a teacher. He is a strong component of the Curriculum Studies staff. I was glad to have him as my professor this last semester of my masterʻs study.

Students' presentations
The way I presented my thesis and receive feedback from class mates and the instructor.
Individual conference
I think all course components were extremely valuable to me.
I liked learning to use technology for research purposes. I liked the many templates to help us organize our thinking. I liked the prompt, thorough feedback.
the relationships built within our class made it very enjoyable
I liked learning about educational research projects done by my fellow students and published prfessionals.
It suited my needs perfectly by helping me finish my Plan B paper while challenging me to value educational research done right.
Research Methodology
presentation and commments and individual conference
Encouragement on project. Time to work on project
22. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
His behavior. The professor needs to change his style when talking with students. He should not be too frank.
-having an outline of course objectives from the first day of class -having only students who are in their last semester of classes, or students well into their plan b paper.
More helpful material are needed. The instructor should give more detailed instructions to students to do their assignments.
1. The instructor should change the way of teaching such as providing group discussion. 2. The instructor shouldn't force students to agree with the instructor. 3. Feedback should be confidential because sometimes I see that the instructor hurt students' feeling. 4. Helping students more with their plan B paper.
Hold students to 20 minutes presentation time. It was a bit hard to absorb all the information in the presentations and then comment on them when we listened to them for several hours.
I wish there had been fewer students in the class so that there could have been more one-on-one time. Eight students would have been about right.
more examples could've been provided & as well as more readings for us to improve our studies
students' presentations should be limited in a fixed time
A really strong theme would give the course some focus. As it was, there was not enough connection between one class and the next. some sessions were quite interesting (e.g., story-reading and discussion), but there wasn't a clear direction.
While it was nice that the course focused mainly on the completion of our Plan B papers, I would have appreciated more discussions on the topics listed in the EDCS 667E course description: "Curriculum trends and issues related to school organization, program, administration, faculty." But other than that, the course was wonderful.
More group dicussion
Hard to say. Everybody is in a different place, so it is difficult for teacher to do one thing

Having the opportunity to develop a prospectus within a class setting.
Instructor was willing to be available to help all students.
we got to work on our own research
This course pushed me to start doing some serious reading and thinking about a possible research project. I also learned about how to go about writing a prospectus.
Writing the perspectus was verry helpful. Alot of the information and readings in the begining didn't have anything to do with what was being talked about in class. Not all people want to be teachers so having readings only about teaching does not encumpas everyone ion the course.
creative idea
working on my research thoughts for my dissertation.
This spring, EDCS 760 came out to be very interesting class. The class was helpful to me for so many reasons. First, it gave me an opportunity to step back and look, my research project and see where my project is. What I really meanis it helped me to see in which tradition my research project falls. It has provided me with future direction. On the top of everything, I like my instructorâ??s approach of teaching students, was inspiriting.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Tells it as it is - gets straight to the point, shares ideas from different perspectives, has a sense of humor.
His willingness to work with all students
i dont know
Each time the instructor spoke, I learned about how one could express himself intellectually without sounding pompous or over doing it. I gained a lot of resources for my project from him. I also really enjoyed some of the things he shared with the class; there were a few things we did that I shared with the teachers at my school. The instructor answered my questions through emails very promptly, and wrote very thoroughly, but made things very comprehensible for me.
The instructor was very helpfuul in providing ideas about some of the topics discussed. What he does know he is good at.
really helpful
flexibility with students' projects
He never ever made us realized that we were students and he was a teacher or a professor. In the class, he was some one who is equally passionate about learning new things. The orhter nice thing about him is the way he looks things with a critical perspective. It was inspiriting. I learn from him, how to change a role when we study or write something. Different role of critic, learner and a researcher. Not just listen to or read on things, but understand them, argue, and disagree with if one really is.
I think This class should desingn for helping student to understand varieties of resaerch in Education and guide student to decide what is best for them to study or do resaerch. But this class try to make student writ proposal which is have not learn from class yet and also not enought. Reading is not really helpful. because I think it is not suite on my interest.
18. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Tells it as it is - gets straight to the point, shares ideas from different perspectives, has a sense of humor.
Fair. He doesn't seem to have a strong background in the field of Education. College of Ed instructors should have teaching in the k-12 setting prior to being hired.
okay
He was very knowledgeable, and positive. However, he needs to allow students to have discussions during class time, to ask questions and not monopolize the conversation. Other than that, he was very helpful, and helped me grow.
My overall evalution is that TOny is going to be a good instructor once he has an opportunity to teach a few more courses. I was not impressed with some of the comments that he made about a few topics in class because he really didn't know what he was talking about. I think that once he figures out that he doesn't need to answer every question that ever comes up and doesn't feel the need to try to make up information about topics he knows little to nothing about he will be fine.
positive
Exellent. I will give him A++++++. Exellent teacher and a nice person.
consider to change the way of teaching. let students speak and share their experience and knowledge more than instructor performance in class.

21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The interaction/discussion(s) that take place are meaningful.
that we could do our own research
Working on your own ideas is always helpful. Also having the tutorials in class about computer use and library information was great.
It is good
focus on research prospective
Everything...
22. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
More time in developing the prospectus from the beginning of the course.
This course should not be a core course for people not conducting research in teacher education.
I'm not sure that the main assignment we were given (writing a prospectus) really fit the class description. I was expecting to study research on teaching, which we didn't really do. However, I was happy to be given time and freedom to read pieces which were supportive toward what I am interested in.
Instrucor needs to not be biased in his methods there are other ways of getting research methods accomplished besides taping interviews. Don't assume that everyone wants to be a high school teacher and that they are currently teaching. Cut out some of the readings and focus on the perspectus like he did in the end opf the course. All other assignmnets should also go with this work.
It is ok
He gave student more apportunities to work to gather, where they gave comments and feedback to each other. But I have only one suggestion, if he give student to work on small class assignment, where two or more student work togather and present in the class, I would say it will give student an opportunity to collaborate, and negotiate their selves. Finally, I would like to thank him.
