The study guides for the exams and quiz were helpful.
unorganized lectures, unclear lesson plans, poor subject communication and very unclear notes. very disappointed with this teacher.
professor wen doesn't seem very organized when he does his lectures in class. Its difficult to read his hand writing and he makes many mistakes when he does examples on the board. His tests are a little off as well, my class mate and I have noticed that some of the test questions have mistakes, especially the ones where you're suppose to balance a certain amount. I'm sure professor when is proficient in his knowledge of accounting but it would be nice if he could work on his preparedness and especially his accuracy.
Good job! I like how he was able to give open ended questions while in his lecture because the students felt more engaged. I felt sometimes the concepts in the homework is not covered in class, but emailing him about it really helps. At sometimes I felt overwhelmed by the homework we was given. He is really helpful and is willing to answer students the best way that he can by using a great explanation in order to come find a right answer. He is was really efficient in answering emails about homework and anything regarding the course.
I did not always feel that Mr. Wen was fully prepared for lecture. He frequently talked in circles and twice he could not solve his own homework problems. The material was challenging. I believe Mr. Wen to be a great accountant, but just not an excellent instructor. I felt like there was a lot of disharmony between the online homework through WileyPlus and what was on the quizzes.
His penmanship is quite messy sometimes and he moves the paper that hes writing on away before anyone could copy it down.
Eric Wen is a very unorganized prof who always comes to class without his calculations done before hand. His examples are always off and that makes it hard for the student to learn correctly. When reviewing study guides for tests, he can never finish the guide and has to email the class the final papers, without explaining them for us. When he instructs the class, he writes notes on paper and puts them on an overhead. His hand writing is very scratchy and unclear. Students are constantly asking him what he has written down. He uses abbreviations constantly and does not explain them, leaving the student to wonder and ask around. Tests are not graded fairly, considering we have to teach ourselves most everything in the course. Tutors and online homework do not help either. There is not enough time given to complete homework nor enough chances on the homework problems. I have to google most everything in the course to teach myself versus going to Eric. He is a very big disappointment as a prof for an INTRO course.

I am displeased that the homework due dates were inconsistent. I know that class is mandatory but when a deadline is given with a new assignment i expect the date to be honored. Not the nonsense of changing it secretly during another class with out an announcement. The incentive to come to class was already there with the sign up attendance sheet.

The online textbook and aplia assignments were helpful to a certain degree, but it was difficult to follow the class lectures. Professor Wen taught the material in a way that was very difficult to follow. I relied more on the textbook than the actual class lectures, however, the exams seemed to be more heavily geared toward the lecture information. I understand that the lecture examples were taken from the textbook, but the part that is baffling me is how I felt like I was learning two different sets of information. It was like what the textbook was saying was completely different that what Professor Wen was saying. It added another level of confusion to an already difficult course.
Overall, good teaching method. More review days would be better though.

Online homework is great for practice! Exams should've followed the format of the online homework for unification. It would have made it easier to study for exams and I think more students would have gotten higher scores.
I like how he would go through lectures with the live video machine where he would write down all we needed to know and we could easily keep up with him. The practice problems in class were very helpful, so that we can clearly see what we need to do. Some classes he seemed a little unprepared or unorganized for lecture, but otherwise he did a good job.
Professor Wen was approachable and understanding of his students. He graded fairly and would always try his best to answer any questions students would ask during class. I would take a class from him again.
I am not a huge fan of the website used for the homework for this course. I would prefer the wileyplus site; used for the 201 course.

Exams were hard.
Thank you
Sometimes it was a bit hard to read what was written up on the Elmo. But examples given in class we're extremely helpful.
Eric Wen is a great professor and was one of the friendliest professors I have had here at UH. He is doing a great job and really shows his knowledge about accounting.
Great professor! Makes time for students on an individual level and is an effective teacher of a less then fascinating subject. Graded fairly and used both in class an online resources effectively!
Little difficult to follow during lectures, but it was super helpful for us to be able to meet with him and ask questions.
None.
He was super helpful and actually made accounting doable!! Thank you!!
Suggestion: Tuesdays on understanding the chapter via PowerPoint and Thursday as in-depth analysis and examples via paper/projector? Continue to put your scanned notes, it was helpful to double check if I mistake or wrote something differently.
Thank you!

Professor Wen is very knowledgeable on the subject however, he needs to work on his communication skills. It is not only good enough for a professor to know his "thing," but it is also necessary for the instructor to know how to get the students to absorb that knowledge of his. He is a very nice guy, but in all, he should do some hands on activity and group work together as a class, that way students will get more involved in class and that they won't feel as if their wasting their time.
I feel that the resources section for the class was a disaster. It looks and feels like just a random stuff uploaded from previous semesters of the class with barely any organization. This made it extremely hard to locate documents. A lot of the stuff in the resource sections was old and referenced non-existent documents from past semesters. If the instructors are going to use the documents from another instructor, they need to go through all of the documents and make sure that they are relevant to the current course and updated. I think a much better way to organize the documents in the resource section would be by chapter or problem set, that way you don't have to go through four different folders looking for items that are referenced in the problem sets. Also, I don't think that the items in the resources section of laulima were properly explained to the class or even how to use it effectively. I think when you give a midterm or a final when the time is up for the midterm the papers should be collected promptly. During the midterm it seemed like people were staying behind 10 - 15 minutes beyond the end time of the test. This is unfair to people who turn their paper in promptly.
Thank you for teaching me and helping me in this semester!
I was a little upset to learn that the other class for 310 had later deadlines for their homework.
Eric is very approachable and a really nice guy. The class itself is heavily based on PowerPoints which can get tedious and monotonous. Overall, it is an interesting topic and the class could be more interesting with some more visualization.
Boring
Professor Wen is fair, but at times little unreasonable (but no big deal). Generally he's nice. He takes his time to help out students and cares more about student's learning. I would recommend him and wouldn't mind taking his class again. Great guy, really.
Great Teacher!
Although the course was well structured and the class Laulima site provided sufficient resources that assisted in solving the problem sets, the instructor was no help at all when it came to lectures. This instructor's particular teaching style was uninspired and difficult to follow. When lecturing, instead of getting straight to the important concepts, the instructor divulged too deeply into elaborate explanations - often neglecting to highlight key points in the lecture. Also, the instructor was not able to facilitate or stimulate any enthusiasm for the course. I firmly believe that if the instructor makes no effort to generate enthusiasm for the course, students are less likely to be motivated to retain any material learned from the course. Most times, I found myself relying on online resources (Laulima, Google, etc.) to teach me the material. My biggest issue would have to be the midterm exam. After taking the exam, I felt that the length and material covered took more time, than what was given, to complete. How can the instructor expect us to properly answer each short answer question if the students are more concerned about completing the whole exam within the time given. If they can't give us more time, I highly suggest editing out some questions from the exam.
Professor wen was a very nice professor. However the class was basically a self taught class. The subject material for each class was unorganized, when some questions were asked they were not answered completely. In the end I would not recommend this class for other students unless they plan on learning the subject on their own. Eric Wen was very difficult to learn from, He could improve on his teaching by having a set structure, asking people specifically what problems they have rather than read through the given PowerPoint slides so quickly.
Worst class of my college career so far. So lost and confused. Nice guy, but he should stick to accounting. I have no clue why he is teaching statistics and so many students would ditch class after signing in for attendance points.
Hard class in general. But great teacher.
I think professor Wen is a really nice teacher, however I did not fully comprehend his teaching style. I think he definitely did his best to teach the course, however, I still found it quite difficult to understand the subject matter. I felt that this was by far the toughest class for me this semester. I'm not sure if it is just difficult for me to understand or if it could have been better explained or taught in a different way. I think it was also difficult for Professor Wen since the course was already structured and set, to facilitate a lesson that was not prepared by himself. Also, although the past materials that were posted on laulima is helpful, there was almost too much information that you got inundated by all the postings.
Thank you
I would like to see this class be taught a little differently. I would like more examples of how the material we are learning pertains to real life experiences we will encounter when we graduate. How we would use the information we are learning, and to apply it to our professions? I realize a lot of the background stuff is important, but don't dwell on it to long. Get to the meat of the information and how we can start applying it.

Overall a pretty good professor. I would recommend Professor Wen to my friends.
Professor Wen is a good professor and is understanding towards his students.
A more in-depth study guide and more handouts would be very helpful!
He is a very nice professor and he is always willing to help students. :)
Class was overall excellent I would recommend to other students to take accounting with this professor. However, I think if he wrote neat because most of the times we have a hard time reading his handwriting, or if he used PowerPoint, or Microsoft word it would be much easier for students to follow along in class. Also if he paused for little bit after each slide for students to have time to write notes, that would be awesome. Exams were based on the materials we learned in class & he let us know clearly what was expected of us. He is very friendly and helpful. Homeworks were challenging, and I think if it was due on Friday instead of Wednesday since most of the times we go over the material on Wednesday in class that's due for homework, it would be nice. I think the grade system is fair.
Wonderful instructor with great passion. Would love to take another class of his!
Professor Wen was always willing to be available and help a student to understand the material presented. His quick responce to emails was also helpful.
Such a confusing teacher. He mumbles to himself, his notes are unorganized and his handwriting is horrible. I went to his office hours weekly for the first two and a half months but I gave up after that because it just made no sense at all. Had to change my major because of him.
He teachers so much differently than the book it's confusing. If you miss a class you almost have no shot at remembering the materials. The reading and what he teaches is two completely different styles. The in class handouts were your best shot at understanding and following along effectively. We often went on side tracks and I got lost during the class. I would not recommend taking a course from him.
Whenever I struggled with the homework he always helped explain it perfectly in class.
Great teacher. However, had a hard time understanding concepts because the class moved very quickly. The teacher knew his material but often the lecture and the homework would be dissimilar and I would have to learn the homework on my own by reading the textbook. Could not read handwriting at times and had to ask the teacher to repeat something or move the projector so we could see. He was very nice, allowed us extra time for homework if the entire class didn't understand. The review packets were definitely helpful but lectures were very hard to understand. Tough class.
Eric Wen is very knowledgeable and is an overall great professor. The only thing I found difficult was trying to connect what we had learned in class to what was assigned as homework with the textbook. I feel like the in-class exercises helped much more than the online homework.

I was actually a little nervous about taking this class, but he made it enjoyable. Liked his examples and exercises.
Professor Wen is a very caring and supportive instructor. Throughout my difficulties this semester he has helped me and communicated with me effectively and supported any decision I made. With any decision I made he was flexible and willing to work with me because of my situation.
I encountered difficulties understanding the material, but Professor Wen was more than willing to help out! If I sent him an email he would respond in a timely manner. It is clear that he is well prepared for his lectures. He stresses the importance of learning the fundamentals of accounting, and encourages us to understand how all the concepts connect. I learned a lot from Professor Wen, and I would highly recommend other students to take his class.
Professor Wen often struggled with some questions
Good professor.
Wish he handed back out test so we can at least look at them. And at the end of class or after a certain time or so we could return them. I like how he goes over similar problems right before the exams because I felt this help guide me to studying for the material. It also gave me practice on hands on problems.
Professor Wen knows his subject very well. Also, I appreciate that he takes the time to go over the format of his exams.

Nice and easy going teacher and class
Overall, I think Wen could have been more enthusiastic in teaching the course and relating it to current events. I liked Wen but I do not think he is suitable to be the economic teachers. He is suited towards teaching lecture and textbook material but he has a long way to improve to be engaging for debates and discussion. I also think Wen needs to be more organized and teach from the assigned powerpoints. Without it, class seems to jump all over the place and does not seem relevant.
Professor Wen takes difficult subject matter and is able to explain simply and thoroughly.
I think the class is funny, but the hand writing in board can be clearly and bigger, it will be helpful to the student who taking note in class! Also Thanks for teaching me! You are excellent! =)
I felt that the course was well organized, although I felt that more directions for the cases and project would have be helpful. It was difficult to know what was really wanted for the assignment so it seemed like students were going off of past experience with other class projects.
Felt unorganized, many tangents, not enough guidelines or expectations of students, wished assignments graded faster, boring lectures, hard to relate and learn
Though Mr. Wen is a very nice professor that is knowledgeable in Economics, I felt that he could have challenged us more and taught us more about global economics. The homework didn't really contact to the case studies, and the case studies haven't connected too much with real life for everyone. Wish it would have been more well rounded to be used outside of the classroom.
Good, knowledgable teacher. Very approachable
Dr. Eric Wen is clearly a very strong accounting professor. As an economics teacher, he attempted to integrate accounting principles into relevant economic topics. Unfortunately, his class was not as reluctant to pay attention. According to my standards, he is a typical teacher who is doing his job to teach us. However, if the students are unwilling to pay attention or participate in class, this is a student based issue and not the professors fault. In any cases, professors are allowed to remove the students from the class, but he refrains from doing so. He attempts to make our lives more challenging each day.
Professor was a few minutes late to class consistently throughout the semester. It seemed as though he was new and didn't have a well thought out plan for the class. He seemed unsure of himself alot. The requirements for the case summaries were unclear. The exams were difficult, even with a full cheat sheet, because many of the concepts on the test were not discussed in depth in class. Professor was always willing to help students and work with them, which is a plus. He is a very pleasant man and is always in a good mood. I just think he should take more time to plan out the course and be more organized.

Great semester!!!
I didn't really like the textbook. The examples in there are not detailed enough to understand what is going on all the time.
A lot of discussion in this class, we learn materials not only in the text book, also outside the class, he always find some article relate to the topic we are learning and what happen in the real world.
He is a good professor, but bus 313 should not be a subject he should teach. I am very disappointed with his approach to the students and I wished he could put more effort than reading off a powerpoint and give us weekly homework that didn't fit with the assignments and exams he gave us. He should try to give examples and help his students actually develop an interest in the course. The schedule was somewhat scattered and I feel I didn't get a good understanding of the course...
Wen knows his stuff but it is really hard to pay attention. He talks quietly and is not very exciting. Luckily I can go over things with the online homework we have. He is extremely helpful though and nice.
The text was rather expensive for the shortened version with cases and access to the course website, also I believe that the point distribution for assignments were inefficient

He's an Accounting GENIUS but has serious trouble connecting the information with his students. Half of them left half way through the course (or stopped showing up) and that was that. Lame
Professor Wen could be a little more active when he speaks to the class. He could also give out practice problem in class for us to work it out. Overall he a good professor, but could be a lot better.
I wish we had more examples and worksheets to do. The powerpoint and homework assignments does not explain how to calculate certain things.
I will never forget Eric Wen. I always have difficulty in math classes. Taking the accelerated Acct. 201 class in a short session was a big challenge. I asked Eric for help, when I realized that the summer class was too fast for me and realized that I might not pass his class. Eric did not waste any time to offer help. Professor Wen is always willing to help students and asks before going over the next chapter, if anyone has questions about homework and goes over them. I would recommend students to take him for accounting.
Thank you!!
Very nice teacher who has patience to answer questions and point you out of some confusing of the content.
Best accounting teacher I've had so far. Class was easy to follow yet challenging.
Every time I asked questions to professor Wen, he explain very clearly. It helped a lot to understand. I learned a lot about intermediate financial accounting in this class. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for teaching me this summer, I had a great time learning from you. I still remembered the way you derive PVA formula. It is amazing! Your theoretical approach to accounting bring me to a new understanding of Accounting. You are talented in explain theoretical and complicated concept, I think if you spend more time on chapter explanation and few time on working on the problem would be beneficial. Thank you again!
A professor who actually takes into consideration of his students. Willing to listen, help, and a very understanding professor when you talk to him. Lessons were engaging and very enthusiastic about the lesson.

I appreciate the fact that the course wasn't moving too fast or too slow.
Professor Wen seems like a really nice person but I'm sorry to say I feel that this class needs a lot of improvement. Here's a list of things I feel would improve this course: 1. First and foremost, have some energy! In classes where the subject matter is kind of dull, it's up to the teacher to get students engaged and at least try to make it more enjoyable. This way, the students may feed off of the teacher's energy and be more willing to pay attention. If the teacher is enthusiastic and passionate about the material being taught, (I believe) there's a greater chance that the students will be encouraged to feel the same. This class was so quiet and awkward and there was almost 0 student-teacher interaction. 2. Get us involved! When teachers encourage students to be more active in class, it may not only increase students' interest in the material but also make the material easier to learn/remember. To be honest, I hardly retained anything that was said in lecture. I got most of my understanding from just reading the text. The lectures didn't at all engage me, so I wasn't really motivated to pay attention. 3. I think that doing the review questions every Tuesday in class is one of the best parts of this course. What I think would make it even better is if students were actively involved in reviewing the material. For example, calling on a student to answer a question instead of just answering it yourself. This way, students' minds are engaged and required to think. As I mentioned above, getting us engaged will help us remember the material. I appreciate the effort put into this course but I do hope some of my suggestions may have an effect on future courses, especially since I'm taking ACC 202 next semester!
I really like our professor because he always appears to be helpful and it is really helpful because he posts lecture slides and problems online on Laulima.
class became boring rather early in the semester.. Same process of learning each class period, there didn't seem to be any sort of enthusiasm and his teaching style was the exact same every time. Discuss if any problems with homework, Then go over book material , then go over book problems.. it was the same thing every.class.period no change up at all. Slowly see a decrease in the amount of students in the classroom week after week.
Course material was difficult to learn, I wish you set more examples.
He gets through the lectures quickly, but the class period of problems are extremely helpful when it comes to studying.
Very informative class.
Nice guy.. Great accountant Im sure... but very monotone.
None! Great job. Keep it up!
great job
good teacher. needs to give better examples thought...more closely related to students.
I really learned alot in ACC 201 in Eric Wen's class. I liked that the class was very organzied, and I found that studying for the exams was very manageable due to the sources available (wiley, textbook, etc). I would suggest some easy, simple, occassional in class quizzes to test the students' knowledge, and maybe offer extra credit points for each right answer. This might encourage the class to do more studying on their own time between exams. Other than that, the class was very helpful and educational.
This teacher really knows his material. I used to get help once a week from him in regards to the homework, and it was extremely helpful. Great teacher.

Always trying to improve his teaching ways.
Eric Wen was very helpful and approachable whenever I was concerned with any aspect of the class. Although his lectures were very boring all of my learning was conducted on the online program called Aplia which I would not wish onto my worst enemies as the program is extremely inconsistent and has many bugs that affect students grades in an irreversible manner. No teacher should ever use the program to conduct their homework let alone their teaching. In lectures Mr. Wen would simple go over problems that we would see in the homework. Unlike my course with Prof. Jung there was no lecturing on the practices and implementation of the materials. All in all I am extremely dissapointed in the class and feel robbed by the fact that I was forced to pay to take this class just to get into the business when I have learned next to nothing and will need to have the knowledge for my future in business.
Very helpful especially when material was very difficult to understand. Even though there were times that he couldn't explain the material very well, he did his best to answer our questions when we asked him.
N/a
I think the homework was a little to demanding, not in terms of degree of difficulty but the scoring system which was used (avg of answers given) made it so that if you got a decent score you didnt want to risk the points of trying it again, and where if you messed up in typing something in or just math mistake it could seriously hurt your grade, thus I found this grading method for the homework to not be conducive to learning the material as even though I may have gotten something wrong due to not understanding or having trouble applying the concept I would not try it again in fear of getting a worse score if I were to mess up again.
questions on test are alittle tricky and lectures are fast
Just do not read off based off the powerpoint when doing lectures.
Late to every class. Did not know material well. Would often correct himself. made class very difficult. I learned the material myself, and easily
Sometimes it was a little hard to follow what you were doing when you were explaining how to do problems to the class. Maybe work on engaging the students a little more in class.
Please upload your lectures a couple of hours (at least) BEFORE class so that students can print it out and bring it to class to follow along.
Add some interesting cases of accounting in the lecture.
Wen used to just read from the slides that are provided from the book. That made the course extremely boring and uninformative. Those slides are not the best learning tools. I would learn how to do everything outside of class. I used two YouTube channels to learn the information -- I will link them below. Luckily, the course was curved or I would have cried for hours in the shower because I wouldn't have gotten in Shidler. Although, when Wen would teach the material by using the practice problems and he would work them out and explain them further, was more effective. More proof that the slides provided by the book are not good. That book is terrible too. Why does it always have the problems have to be worked together? For example, the answer for 2 would have to used for number 3. It was really annoying flipping pages or if you did not know how to do number 2 than you wouldn't know how to do number 3. I really enjoyed Prof. Wen's class. He is always willing and open to answering any questions or concerns you may have. I've contacted him multiple times with questions and he always went above and beyond to help me out. Although accounting is a boring subject to teach, he tries his best to help us understand the concepts. Great professor!!! Very kind and understanding. One of the best professors I've had so far. I would definitely take his classes in the future.
none
Study guide and sample test really helped me with exams
Performed very well in the small classroom setting, the chapter overviews with worksheets was a highlight for the course, forced me to do the work. It's a shame the class was empty so often, though maybe that's why the lessons worked so well, it was easier to get instant clarification of the work.
none
Having the handouts actually given to us was much more beneficial than not having it as was the beginning of the course. The lectures need to be more animated meaning, not just standing behind the podium and speaking monotone. Encouraging more class participation would have been better as well, like ask us questions during the lecture. Basically the lectures were quite dull and should be revamped to encourage more participation and less boredom from the students.

Dr. Wen is an incredible intelligent and helpful teacher. His ACC 321 course offers great insight into the field of accounting, and I would highly recommend taking any course under his tutelage.
Very helpful
I'm not a fan of the textbook we used in this class. It was very helpful to have homework solutions posted online, but frustrating that the majority of the problems in the book did not have answers provided for them. It made it difficult to thoroughly prepare for exams by practicing. I would usually look elsewhere for problems that I thought would most likely appear on exams.
Eric Wen is very knowledgeable in his field but he has difficulty conveying the information to the class. The powerpoint presentations had TOO MANY slides that were crammed with so much information it was overwhelming. Towards the end of the semester, Eric Wen hardly used the powerpoint slides and taught everything on his own and I feel that was more beneficial and I absorbed more information. His exams (especially #2) has too many questions for such a short time. Exam 2 had numerous calculations to be done and too many questions that it was practically impossible to finish in the short class time.
Prof. Wen seems to care about his students, but seems very disorganized. Lectures did not seem to prepare us for exams. Exams seemed impossible to get a perfect grade. Often talked about random areas of accounting that did not help us make a connection to what we were learning. It is obvious Prof. Wen is trying to get through to his students, but may need more experience in the teaching field.
Professor Wen is a very easy to talk to person. He clearly knows the topic of accounting well. He was always helpful when I did not understand a topic. I realize that this is his first semester teaching, so there is a lot of minor things that could be improved upon. The amount of work on homework, assignments and tests should be considered more carefully. I believe this problem will be solved next semester because of his experience this semester. I would much rather have class time for explaining chapters in detail rather than going over homework. You have great homework solutions that should be sufficient in understanding how to do most problems. Towards the end you started using more of your own notes to show how to do problems in new chapters--this was very helpful compared to the slides that the book's website gives. Overall, for a motivated student his class was very easy because of the curve, but for others it was difficult. I appreciate Professor Wen's consistent positive attitude and helpfulness. I feel that attitude and willingness to help are the most important factors in a instructor, all other things can be worked on.
Great guy, had no problems approaching him with questions
prof wen's style of teaching using pen and paper is better than using the powerpoint. it's also a good way to learn when we do some problems in class. i wish we had a study guide to help us study for what's going to be on the exam.
Slow down when explaining difficult material. Sometimes you go to fast to understand whats going on.
