2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
This helped me enhance my personal/professional development in my major by getting me familiar with the SPSS software that is actually used in the field and I also gained a better understanding of statistics than I did when I took it in high school. Learned to analyze data and write it in words It showed me news ways of how I can organize and calculate massive amounts of data collected. Very much enhanced from taken this course. I have learned many things, theories and ideas that I can use in every day life activities. I understand that in order to be a social science major we need to be able to quantify data in a meaningful way in our careers and that is why social science majors are required to take this class. I took this course as a requirement. I know have a better understanding of stats. What I learned will be extremely useful to reach my career goals. This course did nothing to enhance any understanding. It was fast pace yet it was clear to understand what we had to learn about. I had to take this course a prerequisite for another course. I'm not sure I'm stepping away from the class with a greater understanding of the material. n/a I now understand statistics a lot more clearly than before.

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
recorded lectures/help with questions Nothing, I enjoyed the class as is. Specific websites that can further explain different formulas and their practical uses in real life. I wish the final exam was easier to get finished. Very hard to download this certain program that was needed The book we used did not adequately explain the purpose, reason, use of statistical analysis. I would prefer a more "plain language" book. Great class!

18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Offer more examples and answer questions more directly instead of telling us to Google it. My only suggestion would be to include information in the lecture power points that isn't in the book, because the book was wordy and I think breaking it down a little more in the lectures would have made it easier to understand. Nothing to improve in my opinion. Can't think of anything in particular. Having a different method to do final exam. To difficult to download the program that was needed As far as illustrations, I think that course discussions should have centered on specific examples of how statistics are used in research relevant to our fields of study & interests. The application side of this class was lacking. Also, the weekly quizzes were INCREDIBLY long. I would have preferred shorter quizzes that focused on the most important aspects of the material, and the quizzes should be conducted within the exam function of laulima so they can be immediately graded. Some instructors allow students to take such quizzes up to 3 times to earn the best grade. This allows me to best understand why I missed questions and look up the correct answer/better understand why I got the question wrong. This has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of material in other classes.
19. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
good Dr. Heak is very encouraging towards his students, and you can tell that he wants to see his students succeed. Dr. Heak also replies quickly to questions, offers lots of help, gives us alternative tools and resources to use, and provides us with tips to help us succeed and gain a better understanding of the concepts. We also got all of our work back in a very timely manner, which I truly appreciated. Although I turned in all of my assignments on time, Dr. Heak allowed people who missed assignments to turn them in before the summer session is over, which I'm sure they really appreciate. Straight forward and fair. Made students feel welcome to ask questions. Great! Provided what he expected on the syllabus and taught everything! Very open to questions and help. Very timely when responding back for feedback. Online is always a little harder but this class went pretty smoothly. Just the last part when having to download a program for the course was difficult. Other than that everything was great Good professor, available to answer questions. Liberal grading & supportive feedback, which is nice! But so smart & able to understand complex material, that it is hard to meet in the middle with our complete lack of understanding. great that the schedule was given to us. assignments due late in evening, and not an early time. this helps for those who work and are parents Awesome instructor!

25. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The fact that quizzes were not timed I enjoyed the interaction between peers on the discussion board because when I was lost it was nice to know that I was not the only one. I also enjoy how we were able to help each other out to come to a solution and Dr. Heak also provided his input to know that we were heading in the right direction. The fact that the material was easy to find and was available in an ebook. The free-trial software helped me prepare for future and present activities. The course wasn't easy but it also wasn't overly difficult due to all the material that was available. Dr. Heak made statistics approachable. The discussion post Being able to do classwork from home or anywhere due to it being online. Again, having the quizzes within the exam function rather than on a Word document, with the option to re-take quizzes for a higher grade/to better understand material would be preferred. -late due times. good for my schedule -followed the given schedule -powerpoints uploaded with clear examples All of it, great teaching method.
26. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Reading/ lectures difficult to understand Lecture power points. I thought these would have been better if they consisted of an actual lecture which explained the concepts a little more in detail and in alternative ways or "broken down ways" from the text book. Some of the material was confusing. But that was to be expected. It was short because a summer class. I believe the professor could of taught us more Downloading I hated the weekly discussion questions. They did not enhance my learning, and just added additional stress. I think it would have been interesting to find & post a research study that had used the statistical analysis under discussion for the week. It would have helped me better understand the purpose of the analysis. Nothing, very efficient and easy instruction to follow.
27. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Fair Excellent! I was extremely scared to take SSCI 210 because I heard MANY horror stories of how hard it is, but Dr. Heak made me feel confident in my abilities and set the course up for all of his students to succeed. I enjoyed it so much, I would take this class again. I enjoyed this class. Great teacher and knowledgeable. Very easy to speak with and timely on getting back to questions that arise. A necessary evil. Statistics is not fun for most people, so some of these evaluations might be based on how sucky statistics are, rather than course content. Great!
Thank you Praise the Lord this was only a 6 week class! I can't imagine suffering through statistics for an entire 10 week semester!

11. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The tests after each chapter is most valuable because it helps to me to summarize what I learned in that chapter and to fully understand what was taught to me. The exercises done in class and at home are also very useful because it helps me to understand what is taught in the class. How to properly analyze data The most valuable part of the course was that it taught me to be able to conduct and analyze a research experiment. This skill is useful because it can be used in many aspects of life. On a small scale or up to a undergraduate level or graduate level. I have never taken a course in statistical analysis and was concerned because my math isn't the best either. Searng worked with us to develop everyday scenarios which helped make comprehension much easier. 1-Sreang used Pre-tests and Post-tests to measure our knowledge and understanding of each chapter 2-He went "by-the-book" everything was awesome.
12. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The pre-test before each chapter I think is the least valuable because most of the time I don't understand all of the questions since I wouldn't have finished reading that chapter. Writing a research paper, at this level in school this knowledge is redundant. N/A NONE. The use of powerpoint, chalkboard discussion, practical excercises, reading, and pre/post tests helped learn everything we needed in 6 weeks. Having to write a summary of what was learned after each session

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
He can do more exercises in class to help the class understand more of what he is teaching and how to do the formulas. Having more examples are good too because it helps to clarify what is being taught. Cant think of anything. 1-Perhaps Sreang could have prepared ahead of class time more visual demonstrations that work well with the concepts we were learning 2-I valued the light amount of work; it was very refreshing for me since I have a very busy life outside of school, however, assigning a little more homework to drive in the concepts would be beneficial

27. My overall evaluation of this course is...
My overall evaluation of this course is that it is a enjoyable course but you also learn a lot about how to do research projects from identifying the problem to testing your hypothesis. I really learned how to analyze and interpret the result after collecting the data and testing the hypothesis. Before the course I didn't know how to do statistical research like this but now I am very confident that I can do this in the real world. When I become a lawyer, like a corporate lawyer, I will know what to do when I do research and I know this skill will come in handy for me. Professor Heak is a really good teacher because he not only teaches us but he makes every class fun and enjoyable at the same time. He always makes sure that we can keep up with him because he knows he goes through things really quickly. He tries his best to think of ways to help us understand the material being taught. He is very knowledgable and I am glad I had the chance to learn about statistical interpretation and analysis from him. Excellent. If this wasn't a required class i would recommend this class and this instructor to others. The course is one of those courses that can be applied to any field -- The material learned in the course is highly valuable!
