22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She was always asking if any of her students had questions about the essays we were assigned and was genuinely interested in our opinions on the subject matter of class that day.
Available often, holds individual conferences, easy to contact via whatever
She offered conferences outside of class time to discuss how each student is doing in the course.
She definetly showed concern for her students, she gave us many opportunitites for extra credit !
She is constantly checking on her students to make sure they understand concepts and always offers her help inside and outside of class! She is very dedicated to her students!
She made herself available outside of class, rewarded students that tried hard, and pushed her students to do their best.
She always asked us if we had any questions, even if we had no time left in class. She inforces the "it's the student's responsibility to turn in their work" principle well and I like that.
She was always available for outside help. She takes the time necessary to improve writing and clarify concepts.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She gave clear examples for each concept.
She was so passionate about everything she taught that it made me, as a student, want to learn more about it.
Her class was interesting and fun to participate in. She used class well and we always fill the time up to the last minute. Tons of extra credit opportunities helped and gave me confidence in my status (passing)
I especially like the online test. I can take it in the comfort of my home with no distractions.
I like how she explains things with examples, and gives us videos to watch, it really opens up your eyes to whats going on in the world. I have totally changed my perspective for the better.
I love how Ah jan Pam utilizes all the various learning styles in her teaching (visual, audio, read/write, and kinestetics) to help students learn and understand the ideas and concepts of Anthropology.
Aj. Pam is very interested in Anthropology and knows the subject very well. She expects a lot out of her students, and she herself is NOT a lazy teacher. I loved the class, the videos, examples, stories, and that Aj. had traveled herself!
I like how passionate she is with the course. I dislike nothing.
I loved the way that she got everyone to think and to objectively challenge their ethnocentric views. She had so many examples and discussions that kept her class interesting.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Pamela was genuinely interested in her topic. I felt as though her main purpose of the class was to have us leave with a new outlook on life and I really respected that.
She is an excellent teacher and I'm very sad she won't be here next semester!
Wish she was staying at wcc
She's very knowledgable about the subject she teaches.
She is an awesome teacher and anthropologist! very inspiring!
She is enthusiastic, her classes are fun and very interesting, and she makes it easier to understand even the hardest concepts! I loved her class and learned a lot of new things!
She seems to be involved with everything in the community and sets a really good example for students. I hear of everything she is doing and think I need to step it up! I really wish the best for her in her next job and any student would be lucky to have her as a teacher!
She's an overall amazing professor and I enjoyed her class.
I love that she is involved in many advocacy/volunteer groups outside of the class. She practices what she preaches in her calls for volunteers and she has ddep conviction to better the lives of those around her.
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Yes. She was an extremely fun teacher.
Yes because she makes anthropology fun and relevant.
Definitely. You learn a lot and its still interesting and manageable.
Yes, her class is very straight forward. You know exactly what's due ahead of time and I like that.
Of course! She is an awesome teacher, she has taught me so much about anthropology. She has changed the way I see things today. I am much more open to different cultures now, I've changed my ethnocentric view point. I am always going to love anthropology!
I really enjoyed her class and would recommend her to anyone and everyone! It is a shame she is leaving, but I wish her and her husband the best in their future endeavours! All of WCC will miss her!
Highly recommend. She is an outstanding teacher!
Yes because she loves what she does and she is dedicated to her students.
Yes, because her class does not handle people with kid gloves. She has expectations and gives her students the tools necessary to succeed.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She asked questions. Asked for further explanations on individual views.
She always said her office was open to her students and she always answered emails.
When students needed help she always found time to help us. With office hours or anytime after class to make sure we understood the concepts.
Always asked if we had any questions and told us that if we needed extra help that she was available in her office.
This course was a writing intensive course and you showed concern for the students by pointing out what we needed to work on in our papers to improve.
She asks questions to make sure everyone understands the material.
Pam showed her concerns for students by meeting up with us outside of class to help us improve our writing skils this showed me that she cared about us improving our writing.
Asking questions and being available outside of class time.
teacher conferences, this was a new one for me seeing that this is college, but I loved it. Ajaan I know your reading this and want to make corrections (edit). LOL can't get me here hehehe!! I know she cares because she makes herself available, she always lets students know when campus events are, scholarships or anything students might benefit from (thought that was cool). She made me feel very smart in my writing. Knowing that Ajaan is an editor, I can only imagine who's worked she had edited, and every time she corrected a paper of mine there were always positive feed back on how I could improve and what I did well in. Once I failed a test and she went over it with me to see what went wrong.
Holds conferences with students to help them better understand the importance of bettering their writing skills
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I live for the professors that can make you feel the same enthusiasm they feel for the subject. I really appreciate the challenge to strive to think like an anthropologist.
How open she was with the class and her own experiences.
She made the class interesting and interacive! very good lectureer !!!!
I liked the power points and your style of teaching. I didn't like how the knowledge surveys were worded in a weird way compared to the test.
i liked everything.
I loved how she related terms to real life situations.
I really appreciated her level of respect for each culture she taught about. Her mana'o was amazing. I walked away with a bit more information on my own culture and my own family ways. I looooved it. I didn't like to be put on the spot at times though, I'm not one who can quickly respond to a question. It made me feel quite uncomfortable BUT she was kind and always tried to see my perspective and incorporate it into what she was talking about. I loved the videos, enjoyed the powerpoints that she provided, it was great for note taking and I loved her discussions.
The use of examples to help better the students understanding of anthropological terms I found helpful.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I took her 150 class in addition to her 200. She is truely a valuable teacher for students, our college, as well as the community.
She is an awesome teacher!
Great lectureer, organized, makes class fun and intersting!
She's very passionate about the subject she is teaching. I like that in teachers.
She is a really good instructor.
I think she's an amazing person beyond teaching. I think WCC is very blessed to have an instructor with so much Mana'o. What an outstanding individual that all students and even staff could look up to.
She is knowledgable is her teachings
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Yes, it can be a lot of work but it is really enjoyable and I found it very interesting. I was never bored.
Of course, I could guarantee that the person will learn a lot and enjoy themselves at the same time.
Yes because she is very involved with her students.
Yes, there are so much people don't know about anthropology. If they took it I think they would like it!
Yes because she makes the class fun, interesting, expalins things well, and is organized.
Of course. She makes this class very interesting and engaging.
Yes, because she teaches the subject really well.
Yes. She made the course interesting.
Most definitely, I think the class is great. My favorite type of teacher is one who loves what they do & their study. She's perfect for what she does because she's loves what she does and what she teaches. You can tell in the way she speaks, the thought that she put in to all of her assignments and all the activities she's involved in.
Keep up with readings and writing assignments, it helps to be prepared for class discussions.
26. Other comments:
Thank you for your gift to teach. It makes me sad to know that you will soon be moving away from Hawaii, just because it is so hard to find a great professor that shows you their passion for their subject. I certainly am sad that you will be leaving, but I know you will help others in your new community. Good luck.
:)
really enjoyed this class and learned alot!
Cultural Anthropology should be required for all degrees. The education learned in class is very applicable to real world functioning.
I really enjoyed this class. I loved the interactions between Ajaan and students. I learned in that way too. I loved the lectures they were awesome. I appreciated the SE assignments I thought that was a creative way to reflect back on each topic we did. I thought it was a great idea to have all students do volunteer work to see things as a junior anthropologist but I do wish the required hours weren't as much. I'm a mommy so it was a little difficult on my schedule but I did appreciate it. I'd like to say that when I first came to class I really didn't know what Anthropology was about or why I should even have to know about it. I think the first lesson should not only be what Anthropology is but also the why's too. I think that may help the students like myself have a better understanding in the beginning of what it's all about. I believe Anthro 200 should be a mandatory classes.
Thank you for a great semester

very flexible to students and their lives outside of class
She makes sure that everyone is always aware of when the tests are ready to be taken and then graded since the tests were all on Laulima
She cares for her students thoughts and continually asks for opinions. She does not bash ideas or thoughts and openly asks for other ideas or similar ideas.
Pam always encourages the class to ask questions and clarify subject matter that might be confusing to students. She is always concerned with the absorption of information and applying it in your day to day life.
She offers help during class time, and she also STRONGLY encourages us to come by her office or speak with her after class. She always asks the class if we need more time to understand the material, and if we do, then she launches into another example of the subject we're talking about.
She treats us as individuals and helps us if needed.
Instructor showed concern for students by encouraging critical thinking in class/group discussions.
She likes to make sure we're learning by giving us reading prep forms. And they do really work for me at least.
She takes time in each class to make sure everyone understands each unit before moving on.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
i like her excitement about the material, she knows her stuff and is excited to teach it to us. She does a great job at making it fun and easy to understand. The only thing i found difficult was how slowly we read Ishmael, i completely understand why we read it so slow because i could see how each chapter referred to what we were learning in class, but i would always feel disconnected from the book since i hadn't read it for so long. I think i would have appreciated the book more if i read it all at once. Some of the questions on the preparation forms for the tests where hard to answer, i couldn't seem to find the answers anywhere, this was my fault too cause i should have asked questions but maybe if that was covered a little more in class it would be helpful for the tests.
very student oriented student expressed themselves more than teacher. so it seemed the students taught each other. and very open minded to different thoughts
Her side comments were usually quite funny and indicated that Professor DaGrossa truly knew her topic for the day.
The only issue that I had was that her while she used slides, sometimes it did not represent all of the information in the textbook.
Pam is very knowledgeable and excited about the subject she teaches. Her classes are full of energy and always leave the student with something new to ponder.
She is so witty, and energetic. She makes the class enjoyable because she likes her students, and she loves the subject. Pam explains the subject in a very easy way to understand.
She is a very visual teacher and also explains the material so we can understand.
I enjoyed that the course was very interactive and thought-provoking. Instead of providing us with all of the answers, Professor DaGrossa encouraged and guided each student to think independently and critically in order to form our own conclusions.
That she provided the slides we go over in class and a study sheet for tests.
It can get kind of boring, and what I mean is that the lectures seem too long, although what she lectures is very interesting. Maybe some class work would help with that. Instead of just class attendance being class credit.
She makes it easy to internalize the information by showing how applicable anthorpology is to almost every facet of daily life and experiences.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
awesome teacher would take her classes again if i get the chance.
Primates are cute...
She is a very good teacher. You can tell she is very passionate about her subject and shows in her positive attitude.
Great instructor! One of the bests I've ever had!
She is a role model to me, especially due to the fact that my goal is a degree in Anthropology.
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Great teacher, i would highly recommend her
yes. courses expand your way of thinking and personally opened my eyes.
I would recommend other students to Professor DaGrossa's class especially if they wanted an introduction to Anthropology. If they enjoy her class I'm sure the 200 level classes she offers are just as good.
I would strongly recommend her for other students, she is very passionate about the subject.
Yes I would, Pam is very passionate about her subject and also very knowledgeable. These traits make her classes easy to learn from.
YES! I have been going around and telling fellow classmates to take her classes. Pam is a very good instructor, and very personable.
Yes, I would recommend her to other students. She teaches very well, and the material she teaches is very important in learning.
I would highly recommend Professor DaGrossa to other students. She is an amazing instructor that knows her subject very well and will provide a fun learning environment for a difficult/complex subject.
Yes, she was a wonderful teacher to learn from and made class interesting.
Make sure you thoroughly go through the knowledge survey before taking the test. I did, but I never had enough time to finish because the test is only 50 minutes long. I think 10 more minutes extended would help students to get a higher grade.
Absolutely because it is very clear she cares about both the subject content and the students.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She encouraged those that had any questions or comments after class to come see her and she would discuss it with them.
She made clear she is available outside of class if needed
She answered questions effectively and helped to meet the needs and concerns of the students when they needed more time on something or they needed to meet outside of class for further help.
She always emphasized that if we need help and have questions don't hesitate to ask her questions and that tutorial is available. She is constantly making eye contact with each and everyone of her students and if you give her a look of uncertainty she will ask the question "does anyone have any questions?"
She is awesome!!
She listened to our ideas
she gets everyone involved in class discussions.
She allows for everyone to give their thoughts during class. She is very respectable and easy to understand.
allows times for discussion and explanation
She was available during office hours and would schedule appointments for those who needed help
Ajaan Pam always shows concern especially during class. She opens discussions on every topic we learn about in class and always encourages us to express our thoughts and ideas.
She made sure each student understood the topic and asked questions which got students thinking. She encouraged students that not all answers are wrong.
She is willing to take late work.
She would have writing conferances and since this is a wrinting intensive course she made my writing skills better.
Dr. DaGrossa shows concern by urging students to meet with her one on one to discuss any issue they have concerning the class. She understands that students have to balance not only school and homework but jobs as well and makes tests on Laulima availible for several days.
answers questions throughly, willing to help outside of class, presents subject in a easy way to learn and remember, offers extra credit to help keep grade up
She made sure we understood concepts.
Always open to questions, gives a fair amount of extra credit, and is always willing to help students during her specified office hours.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She had first-hand knowledge on the subject. Her class helped me better understand why cultures are so different. I gained an acceptance for things that would normally not fit into my moral realm.
I found it hard to watch movies inan 8:30 class it makes me tired
I did like the powerpoint presentations for note taking, as it was helpful. Also, she certainly knows the subjects and the movies or videos she showed were helpful and applicable the what we were talking about at the time.
I really like the fact that she sticks to her syllabus and is very well educated and can speak of anthropology with no hesitation her way of teaching is so smooth and with no error. Also she throws in many humorous way of explaining anthropology.
None she did great ;)
She's straight forward
I LIKED everything. Very interesting course.
Sharing her real life stories as examples really helped me to understand parts of the class.
very interesting and very knowledgable
She opened my eyes to many different problems that the world faces and taught us to be more aware of more injustices around us.
I liked that she told you what to expect from day one and she treated everyone fairly. She loves what she teaches and it shows.
I really liked the care she gave to the class and the individual meetings to discuss our projects and writing assignments for the class. Ajaan Pam is always willing to discuss any matter that we bring to her attention and lends that open ear to listen to our concerns about anything.
I like the way she explained the topic. It was easy to understand and put it in your own emic view on things.
I liked the use of movies she used in order to give a clearer picture of what we are learning.
I love how knowlegeable she is in this subject. She takes a genuine interest in each topic and it makes me want to learn more. Her slides in class are easy to follow and she allows students to share and ask questions.
likes: teaches the subject in many different ways where it is easy to remember and to pay attention with power points, news articles, group works and movies. Offers help outside of class with one on one time and answering emails promptly.
I liked the slide shows.
I liked the combination of videos, lectures, and class discussion.

Excellent teacher
Ajaan Pam is a great example of a teacher who is passionate about the subject-matter that is presented in her class and is a credible source for all of her students. She is genuinely there as a guide and resource for her class, but creates bonds with each individual student that makes her entire course comfortable, but challenges her students to become better learners by opening our minds to different ways of looking at the world.
She's a good teacher!
She is a great teacher and she made me really think about the world around me.

26. Other comments:
This is my first semester in college and I am very thankful to have had a chance to be in Professor DaGrossa's class. I do have other Professors and they are not very organized in their way of teaching and it is hard to stay on task because they do not follow their own syllabus. I feel that Many professors should teach and conduct their class in the same manor as Professor Dagrossa!
Great Class!
Mahalo nui loa, e Ajaan Pam no kou mana'o a kokua!
Excellent class! I wish more teachers were like Dr. DaGrossa. She teaches because she wants to not because she has no other job opption like a lot of other teachers here which I won't do e-cafe for.

5. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The service-learning component was the most valuable to me. This was the first time that I had an instructor actually explain what service-learning was and how it could benefit not only myself but also my community.
It gave me a larger world view. I feel that I am better equipped to thing outside the box.
This course is an eye opener and interesting course it gives emphasis to value and to be aware of the culture of every individual.
Well, all-in-all, anthropology is an amazingly broad field of which I knew absolutely nothing about before this course. The course is valuable in introducing this field to uninformed people like myself.
the slides every class made it easier to understand, along with the new text book made the subject more relevant.
The lectures and out of class readings always went hand-in-hand. Aj. Pam delivers information effectively 100% of the time.
This course help me to think outside the box and expanded my knowledge by exposing me to new concepts and cultures.
It gives me a broader view of the world, since i may one day get to travel to some of the cultures we have learned about.
Knowledge surveys helped guide my studying.
having a better understanding of different cultures.
Learning to understand ethnocentrism and dangerous that can be. I hope to be more culturally relative from now on in understanding the world.
The most valuable and helpful thing about this course is the option for us to improve our grades with synthesis essays.
I have a much better view on seeing diffucult situations
seeing an anthropological perspective on the world.. and learning about many other cultures outside of my everyday norm.
I learn how to approach understanding a culture with an emic viewpoint
Everything I learned in this course, I was able to put it to use in my everyday life. It also taught me to understand all perspectives, not just my own.
The lectures and materials discussed in class. I also found reading Nisa and doing the synthesis essays are useful to understand the material better.
learning how not to be judgemental
The most valuable and helpful thing I've learned in this course is the term "Emic". This has enabled me to view things from all perspectives, while trying to understand, than judge from an ethnocentric way.
The most valuable thing that I learned from this course was to be more open to people who are different because we have more in common than we think. I also learned not to overgeneralize cultures and people.
The instructor was very knowledgeable and provided interesting learning strategies.

27. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Ajaan Pam asked questions that allowed students to answer in their own way. She made students feel that their opinion was just as valid as any other students in the class. She also interacted with students in a way that you could tell that she was honestly interested in them and their thoughts.
If a student do not understand the reading or material for that day she would try to explain to best she can for her students to understand.
By being available to answer questions all the time.
yes
She made it very clear that if we needed help in any way, we could always come and see her during her office hours or make an appointment. She also seems genuinely concerned with the students clearly understanding and utilizing the material learned in class.
having open office hours, emails.
She allows questions to be asked in and out of class and always encourages students to attend Trio meetings or seek help if needed.
Professor DaGrossa shows up on time and prepared for class.
she is very responsive towards students and ask questions about life in general and also helps us to understand about each topic.
I don't think she did.
She always made sure that every student understood the concepts and understood the assignments. She always took the time to clarify and explain complicated ideas.
She lets us correct our essays so we can have a better grade.
Very much so
She always assisted me when I needed help with anything.. for example she gave me many options for my service learning project.
Pamela DaGrossa would remind students of upcoming due dates, and would accept late work
She is very approachable and is always open to questions and explaining topics that I didn't understand. She also makes her office open if you need help on any content in the class.
Yes Ajaan Pam showed the upmost concern and respect for all students.
took the time to talk to us personally if needed.
Pamela shows concern for her students by conducting handouts that will assist the understanding of the topics we discuss in class, as well as class room discussions.
Aj. Pam always took the time to talk to her students and help them. She made time to go over any questions or problems that any of the students had and she always took the time to answer questions.
Didnt see too much of it.
28. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I enjoyed the mix of video and written information that was used to further our understanding of new and different concepts.
I have a hard time grasping Anthropology, but I liked that she had slides.
I liked the variety of material. There were a lot of opportunities to learn from a large variety of sources.
learning about other culture
Overall, I have no complaints. Pam is a great teacher and seems passionate about her work. The ONLYYY thing I sort of disliked was the lack of hands on or group activities.even in-class work. We had a few assignments like that, but a majority of the course was lecturing. I suppose that is just a part of college sometimes though. Some Teachers are lecturers, others more hands on. I personally prefer the latter, but at the same time, I'm not suggesting that the class was taught poorly at all. Pam is a real cool teacher and makes the lectures feel very open and even fun, but I don't know...I just get bored after 2 whole hours of talking. Then again, that's just personal preference, not a complaint really.
I can see how the reading maybe helpful for some people, but I personally didnt find it very helpful.
She knows how to effectively deliver information and she keeps students engaged.
It helped when we got into groups to discuss topics among peers because it was less intimidating to share thoughts on the subject with smaller groups.
Professor DaGrossa always asks if we have any thoughts about the subject matter. I like that because it challenges me to think about it. And even if I don't have anything to add someone usually does and i get to hear their ideas.
There were a lot of readings and other materials that weren't given enough time to discuss.
i like how she gets us involved with everything we learn.
I didn't like that she thinks her class is the only class her students have.
She was so organized and followed through with everything. I don't know how she remembers to do everything!
LIKE: interesting movies, exams online and more than one day to take it DISLIKE: Almost went over time everyday. so much reading, once you missed one reading you're screwed because there is just a ton more being thrown on
Nothing
I liked that I got to volunteer and work to help foster children.
I liked that Pamela DaGrossa used interesting video clips to demonstrate a particular point in class
She is very engaged in this class and wants you to learn. I could tell she wants to teach everything she possibly knows about anthropology to her students.
Nothing
Her experience and first hand learning made it easier to understand.
I enjoyed everything.
I really liked the reading on the movies that went along with the course. She chose very interesting things to watch and read so that we could get a better understanding of whatever lesson we were on. But, I didn't like the service project or mini-ethnography. I think that that took a lot of time that some students really couldn't afford to give up.
Dislike; goes over class time, too many online assignments and text reading for no real use.
29. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is thoughtful and also has a great sense of humor.
Pamela Dagrossa is a very energetic person, which makes class exciting to be in.
She is extremely enthusiastic!
great job. Good example based on her actual experiences.
A good teacher and class, night class time slightly awkward but its interesting.
I loved both of the classes I have taken by Aj. Pam. I've learned so much between the two them and will be able to take the information and apply it to my life now and in the future.
She knows what she is talking about and is very passionate about Anthropology.
This is my second semester with her and i wish she was teaching another class.
She's a nice person but she just needs to schedule her class time more wisely so it has relavence to the course.
Students carrying full-time credit load should not take this class. Although subject is interesting, student may not be able to absorb everything because their is so much to do.
Excellent teacher.
She is an awesome teacher
I have a lot of respect for her as a person and a professor.
I could tell right away that she LOVES teaching this class and it made me love it as well. She is one of my favorite teachers.
Ajaan Pam is a great instructor and I would love to take more of her classes in the future.
AWESOME teacher...
She's an awesome instructor
I really like Aj. Pam. I think that she is a really good teacher because she cares so much about anthropology. She really takes the time to talk to her students, and she is really interesting. I think that She makes a really good teacher.
30. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Yes, she clearly explains concepts and makes it easy to see how anthropology is useful in every day life.
Yes, because she makes sure that you are able to understand material before she moves on to the next.
If they want to learn, yes! If they aren't big readers/writers, then probably not.
attend class regularly and ask questions for clarifications.
Sure I would. Definitely an eye opening course, and no better way to learn than to be taught by someone so passionate about her own subject matter.
yes I would, but the night classes seem a bit odd.
Yes. She is one of my favorite professors because she genuinely cares about her students and the impact they have on our planet. She challenges her students to remain emic in every new situatioin and she rocks at her job!
I would recommend her because she is a great teacher and will make you work to understand the course.
Yes she is a really great teacher and brings Anthropology to life, she has a real passion for teaching.
Yeah, she's a fair instructor.
yes because she is great at teaching
Not to full-time students. To part-time students, yes.
Yes. She not only knows her subject matter extremely well, but she is genuinely interested in it. That helps get students involved and into the subject as well.
Only if they were really interested in anthropology. If you're only taking this course for a requirement, be ready for a lot of reading and over class time in a subject you don't really like.
Of Course
yes because she really knows the course through personal understanding and situations.
yes i would, I thought this course would be difficult to understand, but Pamela DaGrossa nailed it.
Definitely! The class has a lot of content but she sets her class up with much organization and you know exactly what you need to do to get the grade you want in this class.
Yes, she instructs the class in a way where all the students can get the concept and ideas expressed in her lectures.
Yes, they would benefit from her teachings.
Yes, because she's very informative with her course and makes the class material easy to comprehend.
I would recommend Aj. Pam to other students because she is a really good teacher. She taught me a completely new understanding of cultures. She takes the time out for her students and she makes everything really understandable. The only thing I would warn other students about is the reading and writing load. Neither are very challenging, but both take a lot of time to complete well.
If this is their only class then take her but if you have a full plate dont take her class because the material takes up waaaay too much time.
31. Other comments:
I enjoyed this class more than I thought I would.
keep up the good job.
Good teachers teach, great teachers inspire. Ajoan Pam has truly inspired me, not only to get a collage degree but to also make a positive impact on our world.
A lot of the test questions seemed like trick questions.
Keep up the great and awsome work you do you are greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. i left this semester learning alot although it was hard keeping up for me your work load is great.
None
I really enjoyed the class, even if I had some problems. I think that it was really interesting.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She was always willing to answer any questions, as well as devote extra time for help outside of regular class time. We also had a student become ill- she purchased a card and invited the entire class to sign it. She was always genuinely concerned about the well-being of her students.
By helping us prepare for test by answering our questions and giving us a study guide sheet so we could be prepared.
helped and allowed email of work
Made herself available for help after class
She offered plenty of help to choose topic for her paper and gave her time to help with doing those
She will take the time to talk to anyone about their questions or concerns, she did a great job not to devalue opinions during class but stear them in a more appopriate direction. She never denied students a chance to get a fair grade and made ample oportunities to make up assignments.
Professor Dagrossa always answers questions to the best of her knowledge and if she is unaware of the answer makes an honest statement to admit such and then does research to try to find the answer for the class or that individual.
She always encouraged our class to see her if we had any questions.
Had us sign a card for Scott when he was ill, Scott is a special needs student and came to the zoo on a field trip, Pam made sure he got to and from his ride safely by escorting him personally. Two separate events.
We all got to write a letter for one of our classmates who got her during the semester. It was Adjaan. Pam that got a get-well card and had it signed by everyone in the class to cheer him up. Overall, Ad. Pam is great in bringing together discussions throughout the classroom involving participation by many the students.
She is always avalilable for help out the classroom! She always reminds her students when dead lines are coming up.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked the class discussions and the pre-made power point slides. It is very helpful to have the lecture material ahead of time because it allows students more tiime to focus on the lecture itself instead of note taking.
Pamela showed great intrest in what she was teaching which helped me learn better because not only was she knowledgable but very intrigued to talk and explain things in detail.
she was thorough
Everything
I loved her pasion she had for her subject, i liked that she made a field trip it was a great oportunity to learn in a different enviroment and to get to know fellow piers. I like her organization, she made it very clear when assignment were due. My only comment is she might want to bring up the final paper a few times or at the beginging of the year, just to plant it in the mind.
I like the exams on line (laulima) but i especially like the material presented in class overall. She uses efficient time in class all the way until class is over.
I liked her genuine love for anthropology.
The different reading material and diversity of cultures i read about really brought anthropology to life for me.
I like the artifacts she presented to us throughout the course. Even though they weren't real, the skulls of all the different eras of man that evolved over time, were really interesting, to say the least.
She is always smiling and makes the learning environment fun! she's really positive!!!
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I truly believe that Pamela DaGrossa is interested in not only the courses that she teaches, but the students that sit in her classrooms. She was an amazing resource to have this semester.
Pamela was an awesome teacher who you can tell has great passion in what she is doing!!!
shes nice
Great class! Great teacher!
I just really liked her personality, she was quirky and made the subjects fun and really helped you take a look out side the whispers of "mother culture", she would be a person i would love to hang out with out side of school.
I love and enjoy the fact that Pam DaGrossa has traveled and is able to incorporate her experiences with her class. She is always organized and has time tables with dues dates from the very first day of class. She is always able to be reached via email or office hours and is always eager to help student who seek it. She is one of few dedicated Professors who not only loves what she teaches but loves teaching the students who take interest in Anthropology.
She is a great teacher.
when you answer a question in class Pam always asks you to to explain why you think that, this helped me to learn and remember the material.
I like her class. She uses up her time very well in discussing scholarly material with her students in respects to an anthropological approach.
She's a really good teacher.
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Absolutely. She makes the material interesting, challenging, and fun. She wants to see her students succeed, and will do anything to help them; as long as they are willing to help themselves. I really enjoyed her class.
I would deffinately recommend Pamela do other students because her teaching style is smooth and she's very helpful and there's no room failure.
yes
Yes
yes, she explanins the subject well and show much interest in her field which make it interesting
I would definetly recommend her and I have been.
Yes I would recommend Pamela DaGrossa to other students because this class helps students to think outside the box on things that are a part of our every day lives but don't often stop to think about it. I think just by having a brief knowledge of these things our society could be just a little bit better.
Yes, Pamela DaGrossa loves teaching anthropology.
I would definitely recommend Ad. Pam to other students.
Yes, She makes learning Anthropology fun.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She seems to really appreciate class input and always reminds students on upcoming events.
By clearly explaining all assignments and making herself available outside of class, readily available to assist. She made sure that students were clear on all material being learned, to ensure no student is left behind, so to speak. As a student of hers she has definitely set the bar for me as to what I need to do to succeed as a college student. I am grateful to her and her educational teaching.
We all had a service learning, or an ethnography project to do, if we needed help are came across problems, she was always there to help us.
always takes questions, very helpful. flexible with due dates and schedules.
I can only speak for my experience with her, but she showed concern for me by allowing me extra time to take my 2nd exam after I fell ill and had a 5 day hospital stay. She gives the students many opportunities to earn extra credit points as well.
would meet with students after class
She offers assistance outside of class time. She also responds to emails very quickly which i really appreciate.
She is always very helpful, questioning us, and making sure we understand everything. She would always make sure we understood what she was talking about.
She was available and was helpful with my Service Learning project. She gave us a chance to ask questions and went over the material she assigned.
Always willing to go further in detail about a topic you donʻt understand.
She fielded student's questions willingly, taught to the best of her ability and made herself available for questions/explanations after class hours. She's also very personable and friendly...interested in interacting/creating community within the classroom.
always did checks on student's progress.
Ajaan Pam encourages the class to interact. She just comes off as genuine.
Ajaan asks us questions, and she pays attention to our opinions
By being able to answer questions while she teaches. This is important for students that have trouble hearing.
She its big heart.I'm greatfull to have had an opportunity to have learned in the way that she teaches.

It was a lot of work, but I really learned a lot and enjoyed the class. She made the class very interesting.
I like the way Aj. Pam incorporates interesting reading materials into the topics we are discussing.
I liked that she balanced lecture with video presentation learning. Also, she has high expectations of her students which ultimately, I apppreciated. At times, she covered the material at a rapid pace. Once, I adjusted, I liked it though.
She had plenty of supplemental informational sources, video and other stuff.
Ajaan Pam's enthusiasm for anthropology makes class interesting and fun.
I found some of the way she teaches lessons, repetitive. It was boring at times. But i liked how excited she was for the course.
I like how she shows us examples of what she is saying, by showing us things online.

I am grateful to Pamela DaGrossa, she is an excellent professor and definitely knows her subject thoroughly.
I believe she should teach more anthropology classes. I never realized before how useful anthropology is in everyday life and it made me aware of other cultures in the world and why they are like they are.
Anthr200 really started to become an interesting topic to me as the course went on! Thanks for your great teaching ethics!
Her drive for service learning is commendable.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always asks if anyone had a hard time with anything or questions. Always seems genuinely interested in students.
Professor DaGrossa openly states that she is willing to help her students if they do not understand something, or need to talk. She makes sure that everyone understands the material covered in class by asking them directly, and encourages questions and opinions.
She made things easy for us to understand. From the moment we received our syllabus, it was clear and understandable the work that was expected of us. If I had a little more time, I would of been able to Ace this class with no doubts! But, Iʻll take it once more because I really enjoyed this class, and it sparked an interest in me, because some of the topics we covered I really enjoyed. Such as the evolution of humans and where we came from. If we really came from apes, and the lesson on chromosomes from each of our parents was very interesting too! I loved this class and I am definitely taking her again next semester so I can get a better grade for this class!
asks us if we have questions and stays after class to help us if we need it
She shows us how the subject relates to us in everyday life.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked how she incorporated different styles of learning allowing there to be something for everyone to help them learn.
I like how enthusiastic professor DaGrossa is about the subject she teaches and is willing to humor her students about some of the material or experiences she's had. There was one time on a class assignment where I asked her a question, but then she went off about not doing something I had done and never really answered the question.
I like how she used slides in the classroom and articles from different sources for us to look up and read upon. They were all very interesting!! And looking for current event news having to deal with anthropology was excitingly fun too!
i liked her visual aids and her methods of teaching
service learning as a course requirement is stupid and does not seem to relate to the course itself. It should be used as graduation requirement.
I really enjoyed the oppritunatey to serve my community through the Service Learning program!
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Awesome professor who sure knows her stuff!! Totally cool, too.
Overall Professpr DaGrossa is well educated and able professor who takes her work seriously and sincerely desires for her students to work hard and succeed.
She knows alot of information about her field of study, ALOT!! I think she is an awesome teacher!!
nice teacher
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Definitely, because she's very good at teaching Anthropology. The class was fun and interesting. I was always informed of what I needed to do for each class.
I would certainly reccomend professor DaGrossa to other students for all the above given reasons.
yes, shes a great teacher
Yes, I would definitely recommend DaGrossa to other students, because she makes class fun and learning things in her class is something I look forward too each time I got to her class.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Pamela Dagrossa shows concern for students by given us synthesis essay to help us out on the following exams. She gives great ex credit opportunities to help us bump up our grade, and helps arrange one with a tutor if needed to do so.
Aj. Pam really covered the subject very well for us. She was always adding videos or articles having to with what we were studying, that she thought might interest us to look at. She really encouraged us to study and read before class.
Asked if we understood each chapter/section.
She takes the time to answer the students questions no matter how ludicrous.
Ajaan Pam showed concern to me by always asking "How am I doing?"
Pam would ask students if they needed any extra help.
Dr DaGrossa's door is always open, she is compasionate and very easy to talk with. Not only is she an amazing professor but her work in Service Learning for her students was an amazing experience. I have valued my time in her class and encourage everyone to take her class!
Providing well-prepared powerpoint presentations and encouraging class discussion
She was ALWAYS available for you if you needed help. Always advised you of ways to get help, even with things that pertain to outside of the class.
Pamela DaGrossa usually made announcements in the beginning of class to update the students to upcoming events as well as project due in her class. She encourages students to visit her for any questions they may have and remains highly approachable. She would make adjustments to give students extra time in completeing assignments if needed.
Always offered help outside of the class, offers to help us reach the highest grade possible in many assignments in class.
She was always offering help.
She was very helpful
Dr. DaGrossa treated all students with respect and was always available to students after class.
she answered all students questions and made time to talk with them outside of class.
She asked questions to see if we understood the material.
She always stayed a little after class to speak to students who had questions. She was always available by email and also outside of class.
Ms. DaGrossa made sure that all her students did their best but showed empathy for when they were going through challenges and gave whatever help she could give.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked the fact that Dagrossa made her course interesting with great ideas and examples when teaching a lesson.
I really enjoyed her interaction with the students. She was very lively, and kept the class interesting. This class, along with my Sociology class from last semester, is one of my favorite classes ever :) The only thing I maybe disliked a little was when the same students would raise their hands to speak and she would cut them off because she wanted the other students to have a chance. I understand the reasons behind this but it was a little awkward :/
i like the way Pamela Dagrossa taught Anthropology 200, i would recommend her to other students who are interested in the course. I enjoyed each class period because she goes over everything we need to know on the test.
I liked the service learning and test but was completely paralyzed by the synthesis essays. I was unsure as to what they were asking of me.
I love how Pam teaches and this class was very interesting and cool.
I enjoyed being able to use the itunes account for class.
Dr DaGrossa is very well organized, I loved the ability to not only turn in the required Synthesis Essays on line but taking the tests in the comfort and privacy of my own home was amazing.
I loved watching Taboo, it's one of my favorite documentary series! However, I didn't like that attendance counted for a portion of the class grade. There are a lot of essays, but they're easy, and the ethnography project is fun.
She kept you engaged in her teachings. She kept everything interesting.
She was very clear as to the deadlines of papers and projects and what she expected from them listing the details expected in a rubric. I like that because it makes the assignment that much easier. You don't have to guss as to what she is looking for. She used current National Geographic documentaries and some humor to get a specific point accross. She is up to date on the latest types of references she uses. There were no dislikes.
I like how she uses all the time up in class. She lectured a lot but since she is knowledgeable about anth it made it fun and interesting. I enjoyed coming to class.
I like that we got to watch some interesting videos.
She is a very good teacher and explains things very well and thought out
PowerPoint presentations to explain course materials was very helpful.
she was well organized.
She provided a lot of examples and real life senarios that were relevant to the course.
I enjoyed the slides, being visual is a better way of learning for me and it helped out a lot. I really liked the movies she showed us, they made me realize so much!
I love her enthusiasm and her obvious love and interest in Anthropology was infectious and made it so much easier to learn.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is a great teacher and she does not need to change anything except for her synthesis essay! I think that because I turned in almost all my synthesis essays on time and it is not fair for someone to still turn in a synthesis essay that was due from the begining of class
Aj. Pam is a wonderful teacher, very intelligent, knows her subject matter extremely well, very good speaker, very engaging, I loved her class!!
She's a great teacher! i love how she gives examples about real world issues.
She is an intense woman and knows her stuff.
:)
Dr DaGrossa is a wonderful Professor, I wouldnt change a thing!
Her class is lots of fun, she's a great teacher.
One of the best professors I've ever had.
She is a great professor, that is an asset to WCC. She is clear and understands the subject to the fullest degree. She is organized which helps students learn and the text is totally inline with her lectures. AWESOME!!!!
Great, fun loving teacher. really enjoyed the class.
Dr. DaGrossa is a very positive respectful person.
Very open minded and understanding.
Sheʻs a good Professor and has a lot of knowledge to offer students.
She is very energetic, funny, and a great professor! She always has great stories to tell.
She is a great teacher and I love her teaching methods, however, she would sometimes get a little side-tracked and off topic. It wasn't bad, but it could get a little tedious when one is just wanting to get through the subject material.
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
yes i surely will. if one really wants to learn and get a benefit out of her class then yes.
Definitely!! I really loved learning about different cultures and even just about what anthropology is. I had no idea what anthropology was before I took this course. I'm even thinking about majoring in it now if my original plans don't work out :) Oh and I thoroughly enjoyed the films she showed in class :)
or course. i was recommended by her past students also.
Yes, I would totally recommend her to other students.
Yes! Pam is a very good teacher and i think everyone should take her class.
Yes, I have already recommended her to some of my fellow students, I look forward to attending her class every time.
Definitely, it's very interesting and you'll learn a lot!
I already have. She has a great teaching technique.
I would definately recommend Pamela DaGrossa to other students. She makes learning in her class very exciting. Although she is a tough professor she is clear. If you go to class and do the recommended readings and essays the class is passable.
Yes because she teaches information I think everybody should know about.
Yes
Yes! I would definitely recommend Dr. DaGross to any student. Like I mentioned earlier, she respects her students and WANTS to see her students SUCCEED and will help them to do so.
YES! she seems passionate about the subject and cares about her students opinions.
Yes I would, because I feel that I got a lot of knowledge from her class and it was worth my time and money to sign up and take her class.
I would! The amount of work is a lot and sometimes overwhelming, but I believe Anthropology is a very interesting subject and she makes you want to learn more. I really like her slides, a lecture is great, but the slides are awesome! Taking this class has opened my eyes to the things that were always right in front of me.
I definitely would recommend her! Anthropology is a great class that every student should take, and Ms. DaGrossa is the best teacher to take it from.
Yes because she is good at teaching the material in a clear way.

awesome awesome job!! ;)
Super awesome teacher!! Thank you for a wonderful semester :)
:)--:)---- Happy Holidays!!
She has opened my eyes to another subject that I could possibly be interested in. I though this class was going to be BORING. I imagined an old guy with a monotone voice smelling like old people teaching this class, instead I got an energetic, interesting, well rounded person that made me look at things from another point of view and allowed me to explore other cultures with open eyes. Instead of asking how come they don't do it this way? I ask why do they do it that way?
I enjoyed taking this class.
I love that she is truly passionate about Anthropology!

1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
the material covered. it gave great insight to the difference in cultures around the world.
I'll be practicing do be more emic while in Nursing Careers. I'll remember all the interesting things I learned about all the cultures all over the world. My professor was very smart and taught me a lot.
The articles I've read and the videos we watched in class.
That it was kind of boring because all she did was talk.
I will be using the information I learned in this class for my job and everyday life.
The different cultures I learned about and their interesting practices
Opening my eyes to what is happening all around the world and also helping me to be more accepting of others cultures.
the things I learned about different culture. Things that I learned in this course makes me realize how diverse the world is. Through this course, I was able to see the world in the eyes of other cultures. Now I know that differences between people are culturaly specific.
The studying of the different cultures, such as, the Na and Kung. I will also remember the ways to apply anthropology.
It opened my eyes, enabling me to try to understand people of different cultures with an emic view. I really enjoyed this class and feel I have learned so much. Pamela DaGrossa is an excellent teacher. I enjoyed going to her class, knowing I would be enlightened.
The materials that we went over. This was a culturual anthropology class and I learned a lot about different cultures.
all the cultures i learned about.
When traveling and seeing people from all over the world.
Applting anthropological perspectaves to day to day activites.
The teacher
there is so much different cultures in the world other than just the few that i had known to be exsiting. my horizons have been exspanded.
great teacher there is a lot of reading extra credit was a great access just in case it was needed. Overall a great learning experience.
The service learning project that I was required to complete. It really opened up my eyes on how I actually view the world.
Learning to view the world from a holistic view. Learning that my right and wrong, may not be the same as everyone else right and wrong
The two wonderful books I read. Great insight into cultures around the world!
The great examples and how detailed she was in explaining everything. Very organized. The slides helped a lot as well as her website which was easy to go back to and refer to if need be.
Beautiful boxer
!kung and by that korean guy that kept on talking out of turn in class!
The doors it opened for me in the political arena.
The mini ethnography project
i will remember this course most by all of the different cultures the we learned about and the movie beautiful boxer...
All the work we did.
I learned to not be ethnocentric, which is something I didn't even realizeI was doing in my life until this class. I have learned to not assume people should live the way I think they should because of my cultural up bringing.
When I find myself in a different world, like Europe, or Asia. I learned a lot about this class when it comes to understanding another culture, how to approach every situation with a open mind and learn to observe without judgement.
how much i got out in this semester. Learning about other cultures and applying what we learned in class with our Service learning project made me feel a part of this class. It also gave me an undestanding of the hard work anthropologist do. I loved it speacially because Pamela DaGrossa made it fun with the books we read, the activities with the class and the artifacts she brought to show the class.
Culture is always changing and it is something learned and shared.
the appreciation I have for other people and various cultures around the world. Regarding others from an anthropological viewpoint takes a concious effort to let go of old prejudices.
My instructor. I really enjoyed this course because of her.
applying anthropology in my work setting
the interesting conversations, and multiple points of view on topics
its way of teaching the differences between everything!
the things we learned gave us a better out look on how things are in other cultures. Also, how to keep an open mind and don't put our own thoughts when approching other cultures or people in general.
2. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
learning about the different cultures and subcultures
I gained more confidence in asking more questions. I learned so many new things about other cultures and it totally showed me that I really want to travel all around the globe to see all these things that I have learned in this class and to learn more than what I was taught in class.
Researching different cultures and learning about different kinds of traditions.
A better understanding of cultures and to see the "Big" picture.
How not to be ethnocentric
In the healthcare profession it will help me to deal with my patients and be more accepting and patient.
Now, I will be able to learn more about different cultures. I know how to go about learning about different peoples while avioding ethnocentrism. I will personally benefit from all the things I've learned about myself as well. I am the way I am because of the cultures that I belong/fit in to.
The ways to apply anthropology. Also to look at things with a emic perspecitive.
It has taught me to be more tolerant and understanding of others.
I am much more open to different things happening around me. I've always been open to different people and different things, but because of this class I will be much more open to things...
Learning about all the different cultures.
Not to be ethnocentric and to try to understand cultures from and emic perspective.
The way to be able to interact with diffrent people without being ethnosentric.
Going into the career
i have an affect in someone elses life that i didnt no even exsisted. I learned about having an emic view for different cultures. just the over all look at the world and the way walmart operates and treats peaple.
Not to be ethnocentric don't prejudge anyone before getting to know the person. A lot of different ways to understand what other cultures are going through it gave me a better understanding of other cultures.
Being able to relate to others of different ethnicities and their customs.
Learning to view the world from a holistic view. Learning that my right and wrong, may not be the same as everyone else right and wrong. THinking twice before I judge others. THe secret to happiness is being satisfied with my current state of being
It gave me a world perspective.
being a service learner for the community at large. I want to help the youth out even more they are the future. I want to be more involved with groups and programs for the youth. It was an awesome experience.
i learned not to be ethnocentric
A better understanding of how anthropology works in the working world
I learned how to look at situations in a different perspective, the emic view. this will help me in my relationships throughout my life and conflict situations.
A new perspective that will help me to understand the people i meet in my life. Skills i can use to better mediate conflicts that arise. Respect for the other cultures and lifestyles that exist in the world.
Learning new things in doing our project allowed me to see what kinds of things I will be working with when I get into the work field
Not to judge people just because they believe in different beliefs then me.
Life experience.
Learning about life and cultures all over the world, Learning how other people live and how how what I think is a good life may not be their interpretation. I have loved this class.
I now have a better problem solving skills, I know how to gain good rapport and I have a better outlook towards subcultures that I don't know.
The most i got out of this class that will defenitely benefit me is not to be enthocentric. I know that this can block the chances of understanding other people or what ever the situation might be.
How to deal with different people with different cultures and beleifs and remembering not to be ethnocentric about cultures and in general.
An appreciation of people all over the world (without prejudice)and viewing others from an emic perspective. The extra learning tools shared by the Prof help success in other courses as well.Time management. The Prof does extremely well and gets alot covered in a short period of time.
I know how to look at things in a broader view.
how to take an emic approach and to recognize and avoid ethnocentrism
A world view
what i really liked about this class is that it really teaches you that you're not the only person in this world. And that there are so mant differences throughout the world and you just need to understand that instead of judge it.
How to keep my own opinions to myself.

24. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she made sure to remind us when major assignments and tests were due and was available for questions in her office.
She may ask you to talk after class and tells you her office hours so you can stop by.
always willing for help outside of class and encouraged questions
She does help. She wants you to get a good grade so she gives you enough time for everything and give you clues to make it better.
She was always there for you. With email she responds rapidly and she will stay after class if you have questions.
Mrs. DaGrossa is always available for help inside and outside of class. She has responded to every email I sent her in a reasonable time period. She also shows concern by making sure that students understand the material before moving on. She allows for questions and encourages them.
Listening to what they had to say and was very helpful in answering questions when you needed her help.
She looked out for our best interest, and always asked questions. You could just see that she cared.
She always was at her office for meetings.
She answered their questions and tried her best to explain the concepts of anthropology.
By telling us her office hours and letting us know we can come by anytime, shealso returns email promptly and answers any questions we have.
Going over work
well she showed concern for me personally.I am computer iliterate an i struggled in the beginning so much so that it was hard for me to play catch up. i didnt no how to do turn it in . com, but like towards the end of yhe semester she told me that i could just hand write my papers. she gave me good advice. she was very fair. i am not going to pass her class, but will retaake it next semester. pamela dagrrossa was a very fair teacher and it was my lack of effort on my part that led me to fail. she is a very goo instructor.
Very open to when a person needed help. Willing to take the time aside of class to explain anything that was left unclear in school.
She was always available when I needed to contact her. She helped to navigate rough time patches and reschedule the due assignments. She provided extra material that was fun to help her student's understand.
Invites us to her office whenever.
She would like to see us all succeed. She teaches great material that can hopefully motivate people to see the world, and dive into something new and exciting! Makes material interesting.
If you had any questions and needed to speak to her she was available you could either email her, call or make an appointment to see her.
she lets them turn in late work.
she made herself available for help and gave oppourtunities for extra credit
She was always available for those students that needed help, and she was involved in the events that took place around the campus.
She always made sure that if we had questions, she would explain things to us. She was an easy teacher to contact via email and office hours.
If you need help she would tell you to come and see her in her office and she is more then happy to help you.
Helps us.
She made sure we all understood what was expected and assigned.
She learned our names quickly, she had a personal conversation with our class from time to time. Pam, was one of my only professors who was very professional and at the same time someone I was comfortable around to share my ideas, concerns and questions.
By giving all the possible ways a student can reach her.
She asks us if we understand or have any questions.
She provided lots of materials to help students succeed. Made note taking quite easy with Power Point Presentations available to download She was always friendly and available for questions. She listens carefully treats everyone equally and with respect. She worked for us way beyond the class time.
She asked us questions, she made sure we understood the questions and the topics. She kept up very well with e-mails and she always replied to my e-mails in a short period of time. I really appreciated it.
let everyone know she is available outside of class hours email us to inform us any important information
by asking questions and going through everything to make sure we got the main point.
She is excellent! She is always willing to help with anything she can. she takes the time to explain things to you. she responds back to emails in very timely manner. She is all around a great and wonderful teacher and a person.
25. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
Her examples made things clear and she seemed to be passionate about the subject.
I liked her visual aids she had prepared for every class. In her class I found out I am more of a visual learner, so all of her slideshows and handouts and reading material helped me to learn strongly.
I liked that everything was organized and I did not dislike anything.
I disliked that all she did was talk. And expect us to take notes becasue sometimes she was not really clear on what she was talking about. She needs to give a better study guide to. She should make a notes book with the terms and things she wants us to know it would be easier to take the notes whil she talked, I had note taking book for religion last semester that the teacher mad and it was very helpful with taking notes and studing.
She knows her stuff
I like how she gives you plenty of time. i did not like how some of the questions on the tests were not always exlplained in class
I liked that she had many examples from all around the world that were interesting.
I especially liked the way that she included a lot of educational films in the course. I am a visual learner so the videos and the power point slides really helped me to understand the subject. I also liked that she encourages the students and wants us all to do well in the course and on exams.
I especially liked how on top of things Professor DaGrossa was. She was the most organized teacher I have ever had and I really appreciated that. I never had to worry about her loosing a paper of mine or not giving me credit for something that I deserved to get credit for. She was great about responding to e-mails. Very very helpful and efficient! I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to have you as a teacher!
I liked the examples she used to teach different topics. She encouraged the class to share as well. She is personal and has an easy presence, yet carries a sense of authority.
She was so interested in the subject, and she was very knowledgeable so she was able to give us a lot of information which I really liked.
She was very passionate about it all.
I enjoyed the way she was passionate about teaching the subject and explained things very clearly.
I tought all the material was very interesting and her passion for what she does was clearly shown!
All lectures
I liked everything but i didnt exspect alot of computer work an sites i wish that it was more like the old fasion way of teachig but i learned how to use the computer more an broden my horizons.I am 40 years old an have been out of school for so long.
I liked everything about this class. No dislikes.
She was very laid back but yet to the point. She made sure that we understood her course material. Also she had us take a VARK quiz at the beginning of the semester and I belive she based her ways on all of the learning techniques.
NONSTRESSFUL, cool videos
Slides, availability of resources, itunesU, cheap/great textbook idea.
She made it fun. We got to watch movies and slides were available to better aid with what was being taught.
she lets us turn in late work without penalizing us too much.
i liked her use of videos as part of her lectures
I'm not a big fan of lecture classes because I slowly tend to lose focus, but otherwise I really enjoyed the videos she showed in class. They were very informative to the new material that we were learning.
Service learning.
She gave us so much information that was interesting and thought provoking. I loved it.
Personal experience, I like that she always found a way to make the topic at hand interesting by telling us a real life story and connecting it to our personal lives.
I loved the way Pamela explains everything. The materail that she covered in class was great and gave me a better view of other cultures.
I liked having the option of doing a mini ethnography project or the Service-learning project.
She made it easy to understand and fascinating. It was always thought provoking long after the class ended.
I especially liked the way she gave her lectures in class. Very informing and very clear and understandable.
enjoyed class discussions
Pro + Lectures were precise and timed well + In class dicussions were motivating + Builds the student a proper world view, and allows them to interpret many points of view Con + All work is online only + Limited out of class time to help students + Limited extra credit options
i really liked how she would explin her own experiences as examples....it was much more interesting and it made it easier to understand!!!(:
I liked that she loves her job and has a great compassion for her subject. She makes her class fun and always has a great attitude. Great teacher!
26. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She made the class interesting with her passion for the subject
I enjoyed her class and I think her approach to teaching Anthropology is great!
She has taught me a lot in this small period of time.
shes a good teacher sometimes alittle boring.
she was a wonderful teacher to have and this was an awesome course to take
Very motivated and loves what she teaches
She is a great teacher with wonderful stories.
Very organized and makes very good use of class time.
You made me very concious of my grammar and I appreciated that you were knowlegdable about spelling and grammar. Not all teachers are and I know that as a student I forget to watch out for those mistakes in my grammar. Now I'm very concious of my grammar when I'm writing a paper. it was a great reminder. I think it would be helpful if we had more opportunites to discuss the topics of the synthesis essays we had for homework. There were a couple that I had a very hard time with and I wished we had more time to talk about the topic together as a class.
The work load is significant, but if you apply yourself, it is worth the effort. There's so much to learn.
Thank you for everything that you taught me!

Awesome teacher!!
I had a good time
I am lookin forward to another semester with Pamela Dagrossa.
Thank you Professor!
I really appreciate her as a teacher and thank her for all that she has taught me and the time she puts into to all of her work. THANK YOU!!!
i like the taboo videos
shes cool
Thanks for everything. I wish i'd taken this class earlier in my academic career.
The State of Hawaii (BOE) should contract with Prof DaGrossa to create a high school version of Anth 200. She creates her cirriculum so well. Implement it in Hawaii's High Schools and make it a graduation requirement. Hawaii would benefit tremendously. Seriously!
I would like to thank Pam for everyting she's done for us this semester.
The lack of physical work to turn in, makes it far too easy for those of the procrastinating type to work ineffectively. For people not versed in computer typing skills it may in fact be difficult to complete essays on time.
i loved the class!!!!
I really enjoied taking this class and I am glad that I stuck with it.....

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Ajaan Pam is always there to answer questions. Even if it was something she just went over, she didnt appear to get upset or frustrated having to explain to people who didn't understand or weren't there. She is also very open to discussing different ideas and POV's. I also had a personal problem this semester and i talked to Ajaan Pam about it and she was extremely understanding.
The instructor clearly makes sure that the students know when and where they can get in contact if they need help and the instructor makes sure that students are finding the help they need by sharing tutoring information.
She made herself available for help and always encouraged our thoughts and ideas.
she reminded us that she is available outside of class to help us study and she encouraged us to use the available tutors.
She would ask us if we understand the material in class. Also, she offered her time outside of class to help study for exams or anything we were having trouble understanding.
By giving advice to students about where to find help for studying for this class.
She was able to express interest in the students question, asked for opinions regularly and discussed those questions and opinions while keeping others engaged as well.
encouraged questions
The instructor always asked questions after teaching something to make sure that the students understood the work which shows that she wants us to know the material. The teacher always offered help for studying before test, help for homework and even class material.
The teacher showed concern for the students by making herself available to all students if they needed help. She could be contacted outside of class (e-mail) if students had questions or help.
The instructor was willing to help students after class, she made herself available over e-mail and in person.
She always let her students know that she is available outside of class and seemed genuinely concerned about the students understanding of the material by asking us questions and provoking intelligent conversations.
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She TRULY loves the subject matter. The way she engaged the class, always so excited about whatever we were learning for the day. The one thing i did not like was the textbook. I cannot explain but it wasn't a good one. The author didnt seem to answer or explain anything as well as he danced around the questions. Pams lectures were WAY better.
The instructor shared with the students various skulls that she allowed us to handle and touch.
I liked the use of power points and the assigned Ishmael readings that tied in with the material.
i felt like the assignments were not always explained completely/clearly.
I like that she allowed discussion during class. Also, she incorporated interesting examples in class like articles, skulls, and videos.
I liked how she handled the study guides for tests.
I most enjoyed Prof. Dagrossas intense interest in the fleds of anthropology and her interest in the students questions, she was also very personable and ensured that no class topic became dull or repetitive.
i like that we were alway on schedule and that she was very organized. and the material was really interesting to learn about.
I liked how she had slideshows which makes the lecture easier to understand and she always brought examples of skulls so that the students would get a visual picture of what she was talking about which is very helpful in rembering material.
I liked that the teacher really loved the subject matter. She seemed confident in her lectures and subject matter. She allowed students to voice their own opinions. She always encouraged students to speak up about questions or opinions. She was always willing to help her students. Provided lots of extra credit options. There is nothing I disliked about the teacher.
Likes:the way the material could be applied to daily living and benefits us now as individuals. Dislikes: time of day the class was scheduled for
There was a lot of freedom to discuss one's personal opinions on certain matters.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
what i love about this teacher is her passion ... not just for anthropology but for whatever she gets involved in or supports. Text book sucked, lectures were awesome!
Awesome.
She is hard to follow sometimes because it was a lot of her talking and not much of us engaging.
I think she was a good instructor and I learned a lot from taking this course.
The teacher really loves teaching Anthropology.
shes a really good teacher.
she is a very good and respectful teacher who knows the subject a lot. Easy to listen to and to pay attention would take another class of hers just because she is a good teacher.
She's my favorite teacher this year.
She was a very personable person and shows concern for her students. She is knowledgeable in the course being taught and has passion for the subject
She is a great teacher.

Yes i would recommend this instructor to other students because she is easy to listen to and teaches the subject matter in a fun and interesting way where you will remeber the material.
Yes. She's confident in her lectures, offers lots of help, willing to give extra credit. Most importantly she wants the students to learn something from her class.
Yes I would recommend this instructor because she knows what she is talking about and tries to get the whole class involved an interested.
i would recommend this course to other students. I learned a lot.

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Shes always repeatedly asking if we have questions, making sure we understand, and always offering help or a further explanation.
always asks if everyone understands
Whenever someone asked a question she would listen to them and let them explain them selves. If they were confused or frustrated then she would help them understand and use examples.
She meets up with students after class to explain what we don't understand completely. She show sympathy if something bad happens to a student and gives extentions on projects because of it.
She gives mid-term reports and encouraged those who are struggling to get a tutor so that next exam they will do better. She replies quickly to emails that have to do with help of an assignment. She also keeps students inform of extra credit oppurtunities through email. She has a website that students can accest all the information of material such as syllabus, extra credit, and other informative website links. She also puts up the slides from class on that website.
by offering to provide help outside of class, extra credit options, etc
She comes well prepared for class and makes the class interesting.
She always gives ideas for extra credit
office was open and extra credit was given out
She asks if anyone has questions and regularly announces that she is available to provide help through email or in her office. She encourages people to talk to her if they need help or to get tutoring.
Pam was extremely helpful this semester. When I had to go to Oregon for my best friends funeral, she allowed me time to make up the work I missed. She is very enthusiastic about her subject area, and gave very interesting reading assignments. I have learned a lot through this course.
She gave us mid-term progress reports to show us how we were doing in the class.
SHE ALWAYS OFFERS ADDITIONAL HELP, SHE OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXTRA CREDIT, SHE IS VERY EASY TO TALK TO
she is a very caring teacher.
Mrs. DaGrossa gives us a lot of extra credit opportunities and she encourages questions and asks for our opinions or comments on the topic we are learning.
allowed students to bring children to class
She always encouraged class participation, as well as make sure we understood the material before moving foward with the class session. The Instructor was also available outside of class if we needed help with anything.
when something wasnt made clear she was there to answer any qquestions
she made sure everyone knew what they were doing and understood the material from what she assigned
By keeping track of volunteer oportunites for the servive learning projects and updateing the class as events became available
She did study ggroups if we were struggling
She offered sessions to aid students with synthesis essays. Continually asked the class if we understood a topic that was being discussed.
she will try to understand where the student is coming from and give other examples to help classmates understand where the thought is coming from.
The instructor listens to all the students questions and responds so that the class will understand.
Allowing her students ample time in which to finish assignments.
she was always available to help no matter what
Dr. Degrossa is always available outside and inside of class time. She answers her emails very quickly. She is always in her office when she says she'll be there. Making sure we understand class work. She expects a lot from us, but she is always there to help. Allows us to do extra credit. Explains assignments very well. Takes attendants so she can see what students attend class. Very concern teacher!
She emails us on extra credit and assignments. She informs us on her office hours and how to reach her and encourages us to do so if we need the help.
Asks us if we have questions and always is available to take questions
The instructor goes out of her way to make the students prepared for all the exams with key question hand outs, tons of extra credit and explains every thing thoroughly. I think the course is built for success in grade marks, although the students should be taught that not all teachers will hand them information so easily, and more work may be required of them in the future
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She doesn't just lecture, we have discussions and watch films to get a better idea and understanding about what we are going over.
she really knows her stuff. she goes over and beyond
I really like how she used a lot of movies and slideshows to help things make more sense. Ajjan Pamela is a great instructor and she really explains everything she teaches quite well.
I liked all the class discussions but we got off topic easily and didn't cover everything we needed to know for the test.
Movies, examples from Hawaii and Thailand as well as articles helped me to understand the material better.
I love the material that is taught by the instructor because as a student I can tell she loves what she does. I enjoy coming to her class because she ain't a boring instructor. Although she talks a lot, the information is very informative and shes enjoyable to listen to. She does speak clearly and is understandable, however, she sometimes talks too fast that I don't catch the info that is given. I know, time is limited on tuesday/thursday classes but to me she talks too fast. She intimadates when I talk to her. In a good way thou. I think it is because I look up to her and think she so smart that I get nervous talking to her or asking questions in class.
powerpoint slides, video, reading material was all valuable in the learning process
I learned so much from this class. Very interesting. Great use of film, articles and comparisons.
I think Anthropology is a self contradicting idea. Almost every class there was a contradiction of the "fundamentals of anthropology"
I liked how she showed the class videos.
very well educated in subject area
She uses examples to relate to real uses and applications of anthropological and she herself enjoys anthropology and cultures. She talks about her own experiences in travels and observations to connect to topics in anthropology. There are just so many things to talk about that the rest of class sometimes gets rushed.
I thought the class would have been much more alive if there was more discussion involved or group activities. It seems like most of this course is sitting through a lecture, then pushing yourself to do all of the readings and writing assignments as well as the semester project...all in all I would have enjoyed the class a lot more if it didnt take up so much time outside of the class room. It made it really hard for me to focus on my other classes as a result of having essays readings and volunteer work throughout the course.
I disliked how much attention was placed upon the Thai people and other peoples weren't really gone into detail as much.
SHE HAD OPEN DIALOGUE WITH THE STUDENTS, SHE ACCEPTS ALL IDEAS THAT WE PRESENT IN CLASS,SHE ENCOURAGES US TO SPEAK UP AND GIVE OUR OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS
she teaches very well.
In the middle of the semester she let us comment about how the class was going so far and if there was anything she could improve on or anything she could do to make us understand the material better... I put that the powerpoints help me and she was able to make more powerpoints in the class. She listens to students suggestions to help us succeed in the class.
the balance between textbook, articles/handouts, discussion & and use of media was right on
I disliked the fact that the service learning project was a large portion of the final grade because I do not believe that it really teaches us about the subject
I liked the fact that the instructor went over the material during class as well as provide the same notes discussed in class on her website.
I disliked how she always talked about Tailand I found it to be really boring yes she loved it there but we dont want to hear about her life stories
how she was very into the subject and showed that she was knowledgeable in what she was teaching
The use of humor during the lecture helped keep it intresting.
she used videos and examples to make things more interesting
Likes: class discussions, choose your own project within guidelines, explains concepts in every-day language, and is open to questions regarding information. Dislikes: The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down.
although she had explanations for every idea not everyone could relate or understand why that example was shared.
I liked the way that she is so interested in her subject. I dislike the reading materials.
It was a mix of lecture and videos to keep us interested.
she is very organized and open to anything
I love this class! I would say this is the hardest class I had ever taken. Lots and lots of reading, writing and participation. But it is also the only class I had learned so much in! Great teacher!
I really disliked the reading material. I found it tiresome and not interesting, it was all about stating facts.
Liked that it was interesting Disliked the Kung book and the other book we had to read. The textbook was good though
The instructor is very interested in the subject she teaches, she is interested in the world around her, and she is engaging and interested in engaging others in the community at large. I think it is good to have some one who brings humanity to education
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is very interesting and intelligent, i enjoy listening to what she has to say and the things she teaches us.
i love her
I really loved having her as my teacher. Honestly i just wish that i spent more time into the class.
She's a great teacher and very interesting.
She goes over and beyond. I admire her and the knowledge she shares on the material discussed in class. She is an outstanding professor. The feeling I get from her is shes compassionate, loving, and doesn't judge. I truly admire the knowledege she has and her as a person. Professors like Aj. Pam are those kind of professors that make me WANT to come to class and make the environment enjoyable to be in. Her lectures are never boring. Shes enthusiastic about teaching and that is always nice to see in a teacher. I love how she replies quickly to emails and question that I have. She is reliable.
she is an excellent teacher, keeps the class exciting
Great teacher, loves her subject and it shows. My only critiscism would be the amount of reading required, it's very hard to keep up and get something out of it when the pace is so fast. I didn't read the text book as thoroughly as I would have liked as there were so many other readings to do.
At least she's interested.
She gives good lectures.
ajaan
She crams in a lot of things into each class, and when it nears the end of the period, she sometimes rushes through the rest of the topics for the day. She also goes several minutes past the official ending time of class, leaving little time to get to the next class.
She is an amazing teacher and supporter. I think her approach to teaching anthropology is great, other than the amount of time it takes to just get the work done, overall the subject is interesting and I think she is doing a great job discovering new tactics to introduce what she is so enthusiastic about.
great professor!
THANK YOU AJ PAM FOR A GREAT FALL SEMESTER!!
her class is very enjoyable.
Great teacher... knows her stuff and is passionate about this subject!
i liked how much Thailand was referenced, NOT!
She positivly influences the class and she has good reasons behind the things she believes in. With that, I believe she is able to preform her duty as an instructor very well.
Dagrossa is a great instructor.
other than that she is a fairly good teacher
She is extremely knowledgeable about her subject and passionate
she cares about each student passing the course
She is energetic about anthropology and breaks up the text-book information with personal experiences, which livens up the class.
she has put a lot of thought into her subject and as a student you can tell that she is interested in what she has experienced and sharing her experiences.
My instructor knows what she is talking about. She speaks highly of her own personal experiences in Thailand.
Very passionate and enthusiastic about her subject.
i would def recommend her as a teacher for someone else
Dr. Degrossa is a asset to windward community college. We are so lucky to have such a well educated teacher at windward. Windward should have more teachers like Dr. Degrossa! I love her class I feel I will leave her class learning and knowing anthropology so much more and I will never forget it! and for the first time I feel I had spent money on a well educated class. THANK YOU DR. DEGROSSA!
She's a good teacher, it's just I got extremely lazy.
She was nice
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

10. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
She offered her time to teach MLA citations on multiple occasions. That really helped to reinforce my knowledge of citations and will prove beneficial when I have to write papers for other classes.
I learned new perspectives about topics discussed throughout the course that I otherwise may not have thought of, or would have been exposed to. I also learned new things related to things I have learned about before taking this course.
evolution and how we came to be.
I learn that it takes hard work from me to pay attention in class. Maybe because my beliefs are different.
This class taught me about other cultural views practiced around the world. I also gained further knowledge about the relationship between humans and other primates. This course will benefit me when I enter the workforce as a nurse because I will be more aware and considerate of the patient's and other co-workers own cultural beliefs.
Ive learned alot that this course has given to me. ive learned things that i can use to look at things differently then what they usually are.
i enjoyed that the instructor asked us questions a lot because it helps me to remember the material in the long run i enjoyed learning about primate interactions and about different cultures
i learned the anthropological way to acknowledge other cultures.
I learned more about anthropology and took a bigger interest in a subject i never thought I would find interesting.
I learn that Anthropology is very wide out spend. There are many things that are concented to Anthropoogy. Its a very interesting and exciting class to take because learning about evolution and the world to apes to religion and so on.
I got to learn more about humans and the different cultures that make up the world. I got to learn the different systems that are utilized around the world and how some systems accept certain practices and rituals.
A more welcoming approach.. I have my own opinions but now im more understanding less ethnocentric
I got three credits... assuming I pass of course. I learned that there are matrilineal societies, I never knew that before, so that's pretty cool.
a better view of different culures around the world

32. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She offered numerous extra credit options.
She tried to remind us when our homework was due as well as when our tests were. She also has set up a couple workshops to help us with our research paper sources.
makes herself available outside of class and tries to make sure we understand material.
Ask questions.
Mrs. DaGrossa always made sure every student in the class understood the material before she moved on. She also gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities to bring up our grade. Her website linked to the slides she showed in class, and the articles.
By including the students into the subject or lesson of the day. askes us questions so that we know what is right and wrong. always tells us if we need help to never hesitate to ask. always there for help after class. always giving us suggestions to come to her for help.
always willing to help
always said to go to her office if we needed help.
She made sure we understood and asked a bunch of questions to make sure we got the subject.
The instructor always always ask the students if they had any questions or if they were confused with any key words or terms. And always the students do ask the instructor back. The instructor was very well knowlegde about her subject and taught it very well!!
She always asked if we had questions and allowed us to help in discussions. She also paced herself with the material and tried not to go too fast so everyone was on the same boat.
She made a whole workshop just to help those of us who didn't know how to use MLA formating, and it was outside of class time! Pretty hardcore!
helped whenever she could
33. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked how all her powerpoint presentations were available online as well as her knowledge surveys. They were fundamental to the class and worked out great for me
I liked that she used powerpoints and pictures in those powerpoints to explain her examples. I also enjoyed watching videos and using the notes papers, they were very beneficial.
she really loved anthropology and did whatever she could to encourage us to love it as much as she did as well as provide extra credit activities for us to better understand anthropology...
I just can't conect the idea to the paper.
I liked how we received everything we needed to receive a good grade in this class. I knew what to study before exams because of the knowledge surveys. I also liked how she stuck to her syllabus and did not add/drop anything. Mrs. DaGrossa used a lot of tangible artifacts and examples throughout her lectures. The articles we read in class were also very interesting.
i really liked how she included us into her course. i like when she gave us stories. i like when she gives examples. i like when she shows us some of her iteams to make examples.
i didnt like how almost every class was a powerpoint
i think that the instructor should do more interactive things more than lecture.
She had powerpoints and good examples.
I like everything that the instructor taught becuase they really made it a lot easer for me to understand the lesson. In insruter always made the class laugh by putting some jokes in their lesson. I enjoyed that!! I really like how we can aplly Anthropology to our lifes!!!
I like that she explained things without using such big words and that we got to see examples of certain customs, objects, and behaviors by observing them through videos and direct interactions.
The videos were all interesting. I liked that she used power points so it was easy to get the notes.
interesting topics

22. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she takes time to answer questions and she is available for students outside the class
she ask us questions and listens to us about our own life experiances.
She explained the goals and objectives of the class very thoroughly and made sure students understood them.
She makes time available to the students to seek help
Asking questions and listening to our responses durning classtime
Dr. DaGrossa is always there for you when you need her. Teachers don't have to make study guides or anything else for their students but most teachers like her do and it is always appreciated.
she is very conscious of what students are doing, how they are doing in class and the ideas, questions, and concerns that students have in regard to the subject matter. She has a way listening attentively to the students questions and responding to them from an objective and informed position.
She made herself available for questions and/or conversation outside of class hours.
Throughout the class this semester the instructor told us that she enjoyed it when questions were asked, though at times it would take up too much class time and she would have to end it to continue the lesson. We really ha dsome great discussions and she was already ready to assist us in these discussions and with any questions before them or because of them. Time was taken after class to assist the students including myself. I truly believe she is sincere in her respect and concern for us students.
Mrs. Da Grossa was always available to aswer any questions we had and encouraged them, she gets excited when we have questions.
i don't know
The instructor made it very clear from the beginning of the class that everyone in the class would be treated with respect. Also, she offered to make appointments for those who needed to see her outside of class but could not come during her regular office hours.
allows many questions
She asks frequently if anyone has any questions. She also makes sure that everyone who has a hand up gets a chance to share.
Mrs. DaGrossa has offered workshops after class time to help students with proper citing of sources. She uses every minute of class time because she says she wants us "to get our monies worth" out of her class! :)
Allows for questions and dialogue after class even if she is rushed to be somewhere else. She also will set up a one on one half hour conference with you in her offuce upon request should you feel completely inept.
I feel that she honestly cares about how well students do in her class, she wants to give them every opprotunity to get a good grade. I also feel that she wants to ensure that you not only retain the knowledge she teaches for class, but also for the rest of your life. She loves her subject and you can really tell that.
She offered office time and after class sessions. She hosted her own grammar session to help people with citations after class this semester. She updates us with grades and informs us how we could improve.
She was very understanding and was willing to help every student in class.
in my class their was always conversations going on between the teacher and the students. i thought that this kind of communication was very healthy and educational also.
she always listened to what students hav to say
She made herself available after hours to assist students with homework and projects. She is very encouraging.
She definately gives you your monies worth, and is always available for help outside of class.
She showed concern for her students with her enthusiasm of the topics, and thought provoking questions that led us to think and reason and eventually understand for ourselves such complex topics.
When a question is asked, she clearly answers it and she always has time for everyone's questions.
Always gave the opportunity outside of class for extra credit which was always a plus for me!
She would always make sure that everyone understood the material. i.e. asking us questions, or allowing us to ask questions.
When I need help with my project she gave me advice about who to see and how i can do it in the amount of time given to us. She also helped us to prepare for the exam and due to that, i got a very good grade.
She always asked us questions and made sure that we understood the material before we left class.
She was easily approachable and easy to talk to. She made sure we unserstood the subject matter and clarified anything we didn't understand fully. She answered questions in a caring and knowledgeable way.
she let's us know that we can go to her office if we need help.
By asking questions, making sure we understand every bit of material, and asking for our view/input on most matters.
She answered e-mails promptly and was willing to let us sit in on another class if we couldn't make it during our scheduled time.
She wanted us to do good, so she excepted any type of extra credit.
She was very flexible when it came to outside priorities. Although, our work was marked down if we turned it in late, we had the opportunity to tell her ahead of time if we were missing class and the assignment was due before or after we came back.
She always pays attention to her students. She asks questions, she listens to you during class or even after class she has time for you.
After we turn something in to her, she will read it and give it back to us with her thoughts of how she might of liked something or how we may be able to improve somthing.
She shows concern for the students by interacting with us and asking us questions about what we are learning.
providing outside help and office hours
23. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
she always explain everything clearly
i really liked the way she taught this class. she made it very interesting and i really looked forward to her class everyday.
good use of outside examples and videos extra credit assignments interesting
Very knowledgeable and passionate about subject matter, making the class interesting and beneficial.
She used examples from her life experiences and some were funny.
I always like the fact that a teacher comes to school organized because some classes don't have a lot of time. Also, I like that she has a course outline and study guides.
See question 22
She made the class enjoyable by strongly encouraging discussion and open "digestion" of topics and ideas. She shared many samples of topics that were tangible and made learning the subject matter much easier. This also brought the topics to a level that was relatable and much more prone to be remembered.
I suppose the only thing I really disliked about the class was the seemingly huge project we were to endure during the semester, either a service learning project or a mini ehtnography. Consequently, I did not accomplish this assignment. What I did like was how She made subjects so intriguing. She would utilize her own experiences, most of them during her own studies and ethnographic formulations, especially in Thailand. I probably would have enjoyed this more if I didn;t have a grade riding on the stuff but that can't be helped.
I liked how she explained her expectations very clearly and always gave us requirements and guidelines that extremely helped me.
i didnt especially like or dislike anything
I liked the fact that in the syllabus she clearly laid out the schedule for the semester so as a student I always knew exactly where we were.
Nothing special one way or the other.
I like how she uses her past experiences when she was in Thailand and incorporate it into the lecture.
I especially like how diverse the topics are and how well versed she is. She brings her personal experiences into the class and relates them well. She is fun and interesting. She explains things well and allows us to discuss things as a class, even if we have a lot of questions or comments.
What I didn't like was the sterility that I suppose comes with science. No rooom for creativity. In some cases I felt as if I were copying from the book in synthesis essays in order to to get a point across and pass with a decent grade. However, she was always full of energy and somehow made use of every second of class time. Her Stalinistic system of point intake left room only to work hard with no regard for the"halo" effect.
There weren't any personal dislikes with the instructor, I think she's a great teacher and does a great job with her subject.
i loved the open-ness of the class. i felt very welcomed and that my comments or questions were not thought to be stupid. the course itself served as personal interest but was also magnified by the teacher's personal knowledge and research that she perveyed. one dislike was that becuase we were open to discussion we did end up missing out on a lot of topics b/c we talked so much. i don't know how but minimizing the banter and equalizing the information needed to come through is needed to balance out.
I really enjoyed her teaching.
I liked the fact that She was very enthusiastic about this subject, and kept it interesting. The complex ideas presented in this course was easy to understand, because she took the time to explain, and answer questions. I first thought this class would be a struggle with the work load, but the work was very helpful in understanding the topics presented in class.
the information and details about the subject was very clear. i was able to take alot of notes and at the same time listen in on the conversations going on in class.
i just like the way she made it fun
I didnt dislike any way. she was great
I really enjoyed the way this course was taught. We had a very vocal class, and she was able to answer all questions as best she could. We had weekly articles to read which helped me better understand that weeks material. The assigned weekly essays always helped me understand I was on the right course. Great Class. Awesome Instructor!
I liked how things were so clear cut. She gave us the syllabus, and list of questions for exams from the very beginning, with all assignments due weekly and we had a choice to either do it or dont. But it was clear, and we had no excuses why we couldnt if we chose not to. I also liked the many, many examples she used in class of how she applied anthropology in EVERY aspect of her life.
I liked that she was thorough when she explains things. I don't like how she just keeps talking but then again she gave the information we needed.
I liked how she incorporated her experiences in Thailand with her knowledge of Anthropology.
I like how she didnt really work with the mirror for humanities book. You still had to read it but what she presents in class is much more exciting.
I really enjoy DeGrossa's class. She was always very happy and she really seemed interested in what she taught. Becaused of her positive energy, she really got me interested in the material.
I liked how she incorporated books, videos, and lecture with her class. It kept things going and made it more interesting to go to.
I especially liked how DaGross planned the topics to be covered in a systematic way as to have subjects, terms, etc fit into place as the course went on. Her lecture style was neat and easy to copy into notes. Her use of the chalkboard helped the class organize the topic into smaller pieces which also made taking notes easier. The fact that she lectured about new material and THEN assigned the corresponding chapter in the textbook to be read as homework further enforced what we heard in class. Personally this made better use of my student time than if I read the book first and then listened to the lecture.
I liked that she knew her material VERY well.
I liked how much positive energy she brings to the class each day weither sick or well. I like how each class is full of useful information for the class and good source of knoledge of past and present anthroplogical points of view from all over our world.
The videos, supplemental reading and class discussions really helped with my interest level and understanding.
I like how intersting she was and her insights to her experiences in her life and coorperated it to the classroom.
I'm not the biggest fan of reading so when it came to reading the articles I didn't really like that. It did relate to the course, but I think I could've gotten the overall lesson if I had attended class.
Sometimes the subjects were boring like the world system. Maybe she can do something to make that subject more appealing to the students. Because I lost my interest during those classes.
she used a lot of visual stuff like little statues and watching videos. We were able to see the pictures, instead of just trying to read about something and trying to figure it out in my mind.
I really enjoyed learning all the terms and at first I really hated the synthesis essays but after accomplishing them I realized how much they had taught me. I also liked how everything flowed. Our notes went along with the book and that made it a lot easier. I feel that Mrs Dagrossa is an excellent teacher!
i enjoyed how she used her own experiences to better explain the complex ideas
It wasn't fun to learn it. It's always easier when the teacher makes it fun.
24. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
she is cool
she has a very good teaching approach and could give other instructors a few pointers.
Great instructor and I enjoyed having her
Dr. DaGrossa is a great teacher, she is always openned to what people have to say and sometimes is straight forward.
She is very knowledgeable, and sharp.
She is one of the best professors that I have ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed her class annd looked foward to going to it every meeting. She is passionate about her field, and conveyed this passion to her students.
Professor DaGrossa is an absolutely wonderful instructor. There are few such teachers in schools these days and I have come to realize this even throughout high school. These are the kinds of instructors that need to be in our schools. Perhaps I could say that the key stone, in a sense, for a good instructor is their own great passion for the subject. Not just interest, a PASSION.
She is always happy! She has made me very interested in anthropology.
good job. she's a keeper
she is dedicated
She is passionate about Anthropology and teaching.
Her way of teaching was fantastic! Lots of stories used as examples.
She is excellent! She is able to cover a lot of information and keep us on track while allowing us to go off on tangents and spend time discussing things that we may have a particular interest. She chooses interesting videos, and generally, she is an effective teacher.
Witty and a good source of where to go for good Thai food. For a democrat, she's all right!
She is very great teacher. knows how to make everyone feel equal and their words are just as important. She had a lot of great insight from her own views and great videos/topics. her final project was an eye opener for a lot and i feel we can walk away with a broader understanding of the human race.
Very enthusiastic!
She is the best teacher i have had so far at W.C.C.
the instructor was/is very kind. enjoys teaching her subject. very in tune with her work and happy to see it on her face.
she loves anthropology
She teaches a fun subject and classroom discussions are always open and inspiring.
DaGrossa understands what students need to learn! Loved the class and the instructor!
great teacher.
Overall..I liked her class.
She definitely has a sense of style and flair about herself when it comes to her subject (Anth.)!
She is a very insightful instructor, she loves what she does and likes to pass on the knowledge.
She is an excellent teacher. I recommended her to sveral of my friends.
I really enjoyed the topic. I really had no idea what to expect.
She made learning about cultural anthropology very interesting by telling about her field work in Thailand and the experiences she had there. This made the application of anthropolgy more real.
If you're going into anthropology as a career, she's the one to go to.
I find her to be one of the best, most interesting teachers I have ever had. She took a subject I new nothing about and made it far more then just good she has made it interesting beound all belief. I have even thought to myself what about being an anthropologist.
She is very passionate about the subject and it gets passed on to students. It makes it so much more interesting.
She loves what she does and shares a lot about her personal experiences.
She is a very nice teacher in person and in class too. She is clear and easy to understand. You can communicate with her comfortably.
I can tell she really loves her job and teaching anthropology. She makes it intresting and easy to learn.
GREAT TEACHER
it was truly enjoyable and beneficial
25. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
yes because she seems like she knows her subject
very much so...not just because she is the only one but because she eplains things very well and you learn alot!

Definetly!! she's great.
Yes, she is an ideal anthropology teacher, and the subject of anthropology is something everyone should be exposed to.
Most definitley. If you would truly like to understand anthropology, and broaden your horizons with respect to all the culture and people we share this world with, she is the professor to take.
I would absolutely recommend this instructor to other students because Professor DaGrossa is one of those rare teachers who really gets to the students; who can understand and relate to them and make the class enjoyable rather than a dead-beat, stiff room full of bored students. The class was great.
I would definately recomend this class to everyone I know. It opens your eyes and helps you to understand other cultures and not be judgemental.

But of course. Everybody could use a goopd ass whoopin' from a Jersey girl!
Yes definately! it's a great class you learn a lot and you get a lot out of it.
of course. you learn a lot in how you approach react and definatly a broader way of seeing the other side of the story. how to not be ethnocentric and embrace our differences as cultures, not change them. if more people took this class, i feel different and better changes would happen.
