| The Photo taking of course! Because it really is fun as our teacher says. Thats why we're here. |

| I enjoyed this class |
| I really liked sharing my art as well as seeing what others have to display. Digital Photo was very
interesting and I liked how we learned from different people. Not just the instructor himself, but we
learn from each other--the students. We learn from professional photographers through
documentary videos that Marty would show us. Well incorporated sources from all around to help
me succeed in my hobby. |

| A big thing is time management. When showing the photos, maybe limit each person's set of
photos 5-7minutes. I know Marty has a lot to say about different parts of a single photo that many
of us don't realize but I really would like to go through the whole class' work while the whole class
is still in class--some days we don't see peoples work because they're absent. I like to be inspired
by everyone. Marty may have to just cut down on the thoughts which I know is hard for him, but
consider the audience to let their eyes do the talking. Then have a couple comments, then on to the
next photos. |

| There needs to be more field trip classes because the students need to be engaged with life during
the class. There also needs to be more time with our hands on our cameras. There should only be
one quiz to see how much we know, so the teacher can tell who knows photography or not. The
quiz should count as extra credit just because the class is meant for people joining/entering the
photography world. |

| I wish there were more classes other than once a class a week i think the
class should always be 3 hours long, meetings twice a week. i always learn so
much in one meting but there isnt enough time to go out and do the projects
that is often delayed. I really think we should push for field trips harder
instead of having these extra credit it should be part of the course. |

| I liked how everything was layed out for us on what to look at for each chapter. It was very organized so it was easy to stay on top of everything for this fast class. |
| The instructor's recorded classroom lectures and slides for each section proved very helpful. Also, the study guide provided at the start of the course was helpful. |
| Although I am not a huge fan of the book work (class reading) of any class, Marty's class readings
were not only informational, but also interesting which made it easier to understand and retain. His
recorded lectures were also quite entertaining which made them fun, thus more enjoyable than
many other lecturers. |

| Very good I would not recommend this course to people with busy lives because there is alot to do for it. But if someone had the time I would recommend it. |
| Overall, I enjoyed taking this course. The workload and deadlines were manageable. The course content was easy to understand and comprehend. Also, the instructor's humor was uplifting and encouraging. |
| I thought that Marty did an outstanding job of presenting the course material in a manner that was
not only informational, but enjoyable-- anyone can present material to a class, but the difference
between a good teacher and a great teacher is their ability to make the material relevant, accessible
and enjoyable to their students. Marty succeeded in all three. |

| I don't think I have the right to talk about how to improbe this class.It is a fast pace course and if I was to complain of how much work their was I should not of taken it. |
| The Blackboard and Illuminate sessions could be done without. Video clips could also be updated. |
| The only improvement I think could be made is in regards to Blackboard. It seems like there are still
kinks to be worked out there. Changing programs mid-term was a bit of a "hiccup" which semi-
disrupted the flow of the class, albeit this was not Marty's fault at all-- and it should be said that he
was more than gracious and patient in making sure that we as students transitioned and adjusted to
the new program as easily and as seamlessly as was possible. |

| I enjoyed the scope of the course and the fact that it managed to include both prehistorical and
postmodern art. |
| I enjoyed class discussions on elluminate. Also the lectures provided, even though it was an online class, were very helpful in understanding the subjects. |
| Online class meetings are more convenient for me and I was more motivated to attend (and be attentive). Many oportunities were given for grade improvement (extra credit and essay re-submissions). |

| Since this class was online, being able to finish each section whenever I wanted was what I liked best. Even though there were sort of deadlines for each section like Section 4 and 5 on Tuesday, doing them whenever I wanted made it easier in terms of time. |

| This is the first art course I have taken that clearly defined the role of art in societal change. I thought it was amazing how art has played a definite role in humanity, history, and revolution. As it is recorded we record the history and feelings of those involved from those days. This is (seems to me) something that is usually harder to get out of a book. |
| Our instructor Moana Nikou is tremendously knowledgeable in the field of Art History and I would argue that he could very effectively teach many courses related to the fields of anthropology, world history, religion and theory the fine arts. He is extremely interesting in his lectures, articulate and challenging. He also demonstrates exceptional patience towards students that may have none or little exposure the arts or its histories.

| I love the way we can have the virtual meetings online during class sessions with opportunities to
hear each other's voices and see each other through webcam. We were able to see each other's work

| Having some sections being crammed with information was what I liked least. Each section had a different main idea though so it's understandable that some would require more work. |
| Having just mid-term and final exam. Too much information to remember because of everything being squashed into 6 wks. Maybe for summer courses only, he should make quizzes after three chapters worth 40 pts. each. So, he could have 5 quizzes worth 40 pts. each totaling 200 pts. |
| Professor Nikou explained and defined the roles of Art and artists very well. I think I enjoyed his open interpretation method of instruction and acceptance of our ideas. |

| Very good. Summer courses are very difficult and this is compounded with this being a WI course. Professor Nikou however, has delivered the lesson very well and allowed for as much time as possible (given our schedule). |

| I think this class might be improved if the on-line class sessions were changed to around one hour and thirty minutes per session. Although some may not like having an extra thirty minutes per session, I feel that the instructor will be able to explain more about each section. |
| Quizzes instead of two major exams and maybe separating the WI students from non-WI students. Each took up valuable time from each other during on-line chat. I know it is seems senseless to have two lectures on the same sections, but can't think of any other way. |
| I was not entirely clear on the expectations of the writing assignments. Several of my papers were marked as incorrect only by the use of verbage or because a particular phrase was misunderstood. Perhaps, allowing the reader to take in the paper with a bit more of an open mind would be beneficial.
Other than that this course was the best summer course I have taken thus far. Professor Nikou is a very good instructor and I felt welcome and able to freely converse in the class. |

class rather than telling them to do it for homework. I think if we did more art in class, i would have
been more excited to go to class. |
| It could be improve by make study guides shorter because there are just to many information. Another thing that can be improved is making stricter rules on phone texting during class because it can be distracting. |

| Mr. Nikou, I sincerely enjoyed the class and I learned a lot. I have a new appreciation for art and I want to know more about it. This history of art is so intriguing. I discovered the Honolulu Academy of Art this semester and I love it! I cant believe I've been missing out on this stuff.

| I really enjoyed the hands on activities that Professor Nikou had us do. I enjoyed being able to not only learn about art, but create art and explore my artistic abilities in this class. |
| I liked the way the whole course is designed. It gives an insight of most of the things which otherwise wouldn't be possible. It helped me to realize the creative side in me. The learning methods used by the instructor are perfect and one does learn a lot in each and every lecture. I always looked forward to attend the lecture. |

| The textbook and the projects cause since we barley had any grades, the projects were easy ones. |

| The thing I found most valuable in this course besides the repitition of practicing in my sketchbook, was of course the slides and explanation that he gave. It was very helpful to listen as well as visually see what we were learning about. To have a visual aid, greatly enhanced my knowledge and education on art and history as well. The pictures helped me to kind of give me a better understanding. Also with history sometimes things are complicated and not easy to explain, but the teacher did a terrific job in explaining what he was trying to teach and what we had to learn. |

| Teacher/instructor had made a lot of extra credit in watching movies and giving us little projects. It helped me out alot to understand in that sense then to write from a lecture. |

| I appreciated Professor Nikou's enthusiasm about the subject being taught. His knowledge and passion for the subject made this subject more interesting and believable. |
| i like how you offered so many extra credit opportunities within the course i wish i took advantage
of them and turned my art work in. the reason why i didn't was because i felt like it was being
judged i guess vie always had that mindset in things. |
| He is a great teacher and wants you to learn, but its very hard for me to learn from just him speaking. |
| Mr.Nikou is a very good teacher in teaching the class. He explains things very well so I can understand. He was a great teacher to have this semester. |
| He has a good sense of humor and is very educated and intelligent in his work. With these characteristics, it becomes fun for students to learn from teachers such as these. Teaching material such as art can be difficult but Mr. Moana Nikou teaches in a way that makes art fun and easy to just be creative and have fun with. |
| He would have to be the best art instructor i have had ever. He gives such interesting videos and it gets me hooked. He knows so much about showing the class things that would have us hooked on it. He's a funny guy that makes class fun but also is serious about his lesson. I enjoy the hands on art work that we do and have done and i got so interested in the techniques he did that it he showed and taught us that i went out and bought more supplies to do it on my own. I loved it. |
| He is absolutely thorough in his teachings and speaks very well. Very fair and recognizes the student's potential in art even though the student never had art. Mr. Nikou also recognizes the student's work efforts in completing the assignments and projects. He never ever puts down any student who expresses their meaning of artistic ways.We are able to learn basic art and give practice to it. |
