23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

This art class was fun, although too much on historical information, we could've done more hands on art projects in class. I did really enjoy the informative films though, it was really educational.

I liked how passionate Mr. Nikou is at teaching ART 101. He really goes the extra mile as a teacher to help the students understand the curriculum. I liked all the hands on activities the best though, it really let me imagination run free and allowed me to express myself through my work.

I like how well versed Marty is about the historical context of art.

The project grades were more based on the effort implemented into it, rather than how well it looks.

I like dong the projects and learning about how Art in general shaped the world and how some of it's old traditions popped up through out the years

I really enjoyed the projects we did in class. All of the projects were very interesting and fun to do. I also somewhat enjoyed the lectures because they weren't monotonous, some were really fun to learn.

I really liked the projects that we did for the class because it really got my mind to work on what I wanted to interpret in my art. But, overall it was a fun experience.

I liked drawing and discussing our projects as a class. It really helped include the class in conversation and opened our minds to other ideas that are creative and kept the mind thinking.

I like how he assign those art project to us. Because i had no idea I could actually create a master piece.

generally learning all the material

The instruction and texts give students a basic understanding of art techniques. The instruction included the opportunity to use art medium.

Getting to express my inner emotions through my utencil on a blank canvas

I raelly like the fact that the instructor has a great depth of knowledge and love for the subject which is the most important thing with any teacher. Plus the fact that you give us so many opportunities for bonus points to get a good great and to learn more about the subject. I also appreciate the fact that you go over everything that's on the study guide and even repeat whats on there, not only that giving us a LOT of help for preparation for the exams. Great job Marty :)

I like how there are so much information's on the power points that presented,and the activities we've done on class.

The opportunity to use what little skills in the arts I have to express my individual mind.

I liked the art projects, and the resources that were available, such as online reviews and study guides.

The times when we were able to sketch in class are fun. Also, incorporating videos into his lectures.

The lectures and videos helped me under stand the reading.

I liked the flexibility of the on-line class. I also liked that the lectures were available on-line. My other on-line classed did not have this available and I found it very helpful in understanding the material.

I liked the incorporation of completing art assignments as well as lectures regarding art. Mr. Nikou is informative and easy to listen to.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! IT WAS A VERY FUN YET CHALLENGING COURSE!

Making my own art

Being able to work on art at your own pace and being able to create art the way you want, not having someone tell you what you exactly have to do

I liked the fact that we could visit and revisit each lesson at our own pace, which is the whole point of distance education, i guess, but Marty (Moana) made it easy for us to access the information we needed to know through both recorded class review sessions and through Laulima videos and lectures.

I like watching the videos and doing the hands on work. I enjoyed it very much.

I loved how the online course material was formatted. It was very easy to follow and rarely did I ever feel unconnected or lost in the course.

I really enjoyed learning about the History of art.

What I liked about the course the most was the fact that we all were in control of our grade. It was up to us whether or not if we wanted to do the work or not, and he always encouraged us to do extra credit work to make the grade of the student better. He is a very good lecturer.

The clips of the movies, and the in class activities.

I liked the drawing, but not necessarily getting up in front of the class, and telling them why I chose what I did. I liked the videos also. The are so many chances for extra credit, there is no reason why everyone should not pass. Great professor.

The use of a lot of visual aids and how they were easy to access on the internet. I enjoyed doing the small hands on projects as well.

I enjoyed learned the history of art, the different centuries and how art differs.

I enjoyed being in both writing intensive and art class and being given the option to stay and participate in the art aspect of the class time.

The extra credit video essays

The art timetable kept me organized and on track. I knew when the sketchbook assignments and art projects were due ahead of time, as well as when there would be a test. Having the assignments listed by sections and available at all times was helpful. It allowed me to look back at previous videos and lectures or preview what was coming up in the next section. I felt that it let me work at a steady pace. The art review sections were great. Although I was not able to attend any of the Blackboard meetings, they made this course feel more like an actual college class.

The course give me a broad overview of various type of art in a systematic way. The course help me to explain to a non-art person why the thing I am seeing is beautiful, what I am looking at. It also give me a new perspective with the art I am very familiar with.

This course allowed be to become more creative and amde me realize what I was capable of. Overall, I really enjoyed taking this class.

24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

He embarasses you when you give the wrong answers in class room participations.

The least I liked were the lectures, but as time progressed throughout the course I started realizing that I needed to pay close attention to what is discussed in order to pass the exams.

Some of the art projects shocked me a little bit. I was not prepared to spend money out of class to buy canvases, and photographs, or even a portfolio. I'm not much of an artsy hands on person so doing project number 3 was a little difficult for me. Also, it was hard to get out of work, and school to go to a museum for project 4.

I thought it was a challenge that the only way you can get an A in the course is by getting a perfect score on all tests and submitting all work. Lots of extra credit were offered.

The only challenge for me was the Blackboard meeting time, but I understood that it might be more convenient for a majority of the other students as well as the instructor. It was fortunate that the sessions could be viewed at later times.

25. My overall evaluation of this course is...

Very informative, he does give positive constructive critisms for you art work presentations which actually motivates you.

It's a good course to take whether it's a prerequisite, major or to just take up a class. It's really interesting and you do learn a lot through just one semester.

Good class if you like feeling-based art

Art 101 (Introduction to Visual Arts) with Moana Nikou has been an enjoyable experience. The project instructions/procedures are crystal-clear and the exams are not difficult whatsoever, unless one hasn't been paying attention during the lectures.

Awesome! Recommend it to everybody if they ever need a class that's fun.

It was very interesting and fun. He really explains things in detail and gets into it with the history of art. Gives A LOT of extra credit.

Two thumbs up.. I learned a lot in this class and I believe this art class is worth taking especially because I feel that it broadens your understanding of art more than you assumed it would.

I enjoyed this course. The course site was easy to navigate, assignments and instructions for projects were clear, the lectures and videos were interactive, the instructor was helpful, and review sessions allowed me to understand the content clearly.

Very informative, I am glad I took this course here. I had seen art museums around the world, this course does help me to appreciate the other side of track I tend to shun away from.

I think this class was a great class...very fun and interesting. Professor Nikou was very helpful and answered any question you had right away if by email. I learned a lot from this class.

26. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.

It could be improved by making more projects rather than movie reports. Having the freedom to do the movie report without a set deadline is frustrating because we watch movie clips at least once or twice a class and it piles up.

The only improvement worth mentioning is the importance of the textbook for the course could be stressed a bit more.

Change project 4 to something hands on.

It would have been nice to have more activities as a class at the end of the lecture to discuss what we learned from the lecture to help better understand it. Also, I would have enjoyed a fieldtrip together as a class rather than independently for our last project. It would have been much more helpful learning about the Museum through our instructor.

More Art project so student can be creative.

A classroom that could accomodate a horseshoe setup would suit Mr. Nikou's presentations better.

More examples could be taught in the form of activities. Maybe to give a clearer understanding to some.

One way that this course could improve is to add more opportunities to create art. Bigger art project. The second way it can improve is by keeping the lights on.

More hands on learning. Find various ways to understand art history as there is a lot to know.

Have guest speakers come in and present to the class. Take a class trip to a museum.

This course is fun and all, but sometimes there's just too many information to consume at once. Maybe a little more hands-on it'd be great. But all in all, it was a great course.

Separate the writing intensive course tasks better. Quicker grade feedback would be helpful.

The aspects of the course i liked best was taking photos on campus. It allowed us to get an experience before the actual product. Also, sharing our photos in class helped to get feedback on what the other classmates think of your work.

Professor Nikou gave the class a lot of room to be creative with our photograph projects. We also shared photos with classmates.

Professor Nikou explained and demonstrated how to control my camera using the three main aspects. I believe that alone made the class worth it.

the aspects i like the best was getting to know my classmates more, and seeing other peoples work. it shows me how i can improve more on my photos!

The instructor was very passionate about the subject he was teaching and also cared deeply for the students' overall improvement. Marty had high expectations for his students.

I enjoyed learning about the Greeks and their knowledge of architecture. It applied to the things I am learning in my architectural class. One example was the Pantheon, which was originally known as the first building structure shaped as a dome.

Projects that we had to do was fun and interesting. Mr. Moana Nikou didnt matter too much of the appearance of our projects as long as we took our quality time and effort to finish up project by deadlines.

i really liked martys lectures. Especially in the beginning of the semester the way he word things and his ideas are very thought provoking. The lectures throughout the semester really felt short even thought some where an hour long. I like his way of showing a video before he starts a lecture it gets me thinking and it also prepares for us for the lectures he is about to present. I really like that he doesnt grade you on how good of an artist you are but he grades you if you meet the criteria that is in the syllabus. That was a relief because i am not a good artist but i am intrigued by art.

The hands on parts where we got to actually draw, paint, or sculpt something.

I liked how it was more about the history of art instead of actually creating art.

I liked how our Mr. Nikou is very talkative. He brings great energy to the class room even though most of us are extremely tiered. Except that one time were he was sick but that doesnt really count. And he made good use of movie clips that apply to what ever we're studying

Mr. Nikou always contributed his energy and positive attitude to each class. His theatrical way of teaching brought life to the class. Questions are welcomed and answered properly. His grading scale is fair, and tests aren't ridiculously difficult, but still challenges you.

Doing artworks! I thought I already know everything about art, but Nikou introduced me to his own view and interpretation of art.

What I like best about this course is the presence of the class. Every student were active when it comes to discussions and answering questions.

I really enjoyed his lectures that were given during class sessions. They were very informative. The pictures and examples that he showed of previous students' work were great for those in the regular NON-WI course. I was in the WI course, but I feel that the student's artwork from previous semesters was a major help.

The aspects of the course that I liked the best were when we would watch video clips that related to the topic and helped us understand it more, when the whole class would participate in the hands on activities during class, and the extra credit quizzes that were given to help benefit our understanding even more.

I like the presentations he gives to the class talking of the various materials on art. It is clear and precise, helping to give good understanding to the students.

His presentations are something to look forward too. Everyday is something different.

This course is a great and easy course to take. I took the Writing Intensive portion of the class because I felt that I wasn't creative or as good enough as an artist to take the regular class. However, after taking this class and participating in some of the class activities, such as painting or drawing, I've discovered my ability for creativity. This course helped me explore my abilities to do different things, and has given me an opportunity to discover something about myself.

The artistic part of the class looks more fun then the writing intensive part.

My teacher. I believe Marty is one of the few teachers out there that has my full respect! He is always cheerful and encourages us to pursue any and all avenues to achieve creative perspectives in our projects.

I liked how we got to see everyone's photos and got to talk about them.

I loved this class! Really enjoyed learning the technical aspects of photography as well as the deeper artistic perspectives.

The weekly assignments were very though provoking and adequately explained the practices we were learning.

He accepted feedback about what kind of assignments we'd like to do instead of just assigning what he wanted.

i like learning how to take pictures and use the different settings on my camera. learning how to think outside of the box while using the different techniques we learned. also it was very interesting learning about the different artists in the world and what they specialize in and it helps you to improve and think differently when taking pictures.

Furthermore, in a time period in which the art major is considered reserved for the less intellectually endowed, Moana Nikou is an example of how art is truly a refined, elegant subject that has many true intellectuals at the helm.

This course seems very fast paced when it comes to the limited time to get a good photo for an assignment. I loved the variety of assignments given, but I think that if less assignments were given in exchange for more time on the assignment, this could help in producing more great photos.

Doing the Arts project and also the way how Marty Nikous taught the course what i like about Marty is that he teaches with a sense of humor .

The history interested me the most; About how art was and how it's evolved to what it is today. How everything is translated and the meaning behind it. I enjoyed the whole course, from every aspect.

Mr. Nikou gives very good lectures that are easy to follow and understand. He is understanding and compassionate to schedule conflictions.

I enjoyed learning about international artists, art work, different styles of art and techniques, and more.

I liked the teacher's learning style, he made everything very interesting and fun to learn. I especially admired how, because art can sometimes be very judgmental sometimes, he encouraged everyone to participate and ensured that no one's work would criticized and such, thus making everyone feel more at ease to express themselves.

The teacher's insight and enthusiasm are highly conducive to the learning enviroment.

i liked the actual art that we did.

I liked when he would show us movies that involves art because some of them, if i would have watched them on my own beforehand, i wouldn't think of relating it to art but he made me open my eyes and observe the different types of art in movies.

His lectures were very informative and easy to follow. The projects and sketchbook assignments were fun to do!

actually doing the projects turned out to be fun and interesting. a lot of the topics were very engrossing. i felt my appreciation of western art increased.

I believe my class and I was blessed with such great teacher. He was kind, open to any questions we had, informative, encouraging and more. I enjoyed the projects and lectures, but most of all the selection of extra credit videos. I honestly learn better through visual aids.

I really loved the clear timeline so we knew what was due ahead of time. I also liked the chances for extra credit.

I liked the videos we had to watch for each section. It helped me understand more and give me a visual. Also I enjoyed the blackboard sessions. I also enjoyed the projects we got to do like the clay model,painting,and picture collage.

The live class discussions were the best because it was a study guide for our quizzes. It also gave a better understanding of the assignments we were doing.

I liked the way the class was layed out for us students. We knew what we would need to do for the course and when we would need to do it. I liked the way every assignment was given and displayed to us.

I loved learning about the history behind art works and the artists background.

Nothing much the overall class content was very good and Marty was a pleasure to learn with.

Review for the final exam. the lecture was over 2 hours. It will be easier if the instructor email the students a guide line and be open for questions. Go over the material in just one lecture was too exhausted.

I wish his lectures had a video of himself actually giving the lectures out so it feels more like i am in the classroom.

I am not a big fan of Blackboard Illuminate. It seems like it has a lot of technical issues.

This course could be improved by having more art projects. Also more ways of studying the material that was learned and memorizing it.

This course would improve if the book work was decreased and the live class discussions were used more. This would allow students to communicate better. Sometimes the bookwork is hard to understand, but with the live class discussion, it makes the readings more clear.

Once again, this was a great course. I cant think of anything that would need to be improved.

The Photo taking of course! Because it really is fun as our teacher says. Thats why we're here.

I loved the hw hole course. It was a great experience.

The videos of famous photographers because we get to see how professional's do this as a living. So we know how to somehow copy those styles as best we can when we actually take photographs on our own.

I liked how we were able to go on our own and do projects and take pictures for certain circumstances.

I think that the subject is really interesting, and that really helps! I like seeing other peoples work. And how they interpreted the assignment.

The viewing of our pictures because it seemed like he was too focused on some students pictures instead of others. Playing favorites with some students.

I was hoping that during class time it was going to be more hands-on. A little disappointed in that, but still learned a lot.

Overall the friday class is too long, and its hard to focus. It's a really troublesome if your an introvert. I had a hard time pushing my self to go to places to take shots. But sometimes this could be a good thing!! :)

I enjoyed this class

I really liked sharing my art as well as seeing what others have to display. Digital Photo was very interesting and I liked how we learned from different people. Not just the instructor himself, but we learn from each other--the students. We learn from professional photographers through documentary videos that Marty would show us. Well incorporated sources from all around to help me succeed in my hobby.

This course is pretty good for his first time teaching digital photography. He sure knows how take photos professionally and can tell which photos are bad and good.

A big thing is time management. When showing the photos, maybe limit each person's set of photos 5-7minutes. I know Marty has a lot to say about different parts of a single photo that many of us don't realize but I really would like to go through the whole class' work while the whole class is still in class--some days we don't see peoples work because they're absent. I like to be inspired by everyone. Marty may have to just cut down on the thoughts which I know is hard for him, but consider the audience to let their eyes do the talking. Then have a couple comments, then on to the next photos.

It is a perfect course

There needs to be more field trip classes because the students need to be engaged with life during the class. There also needs to be more time with our hands on our cameras. There should only be one quiz to see how much we know, so the teacher can tell who knows photography or not. The quiz should count as extra credit just because the class is meant for people joining/entering the photography world.

More hands on in class.

I think the course can be improved by having fieldtrips to specific areas that relates to his assignment.

I wish there were more classes other than once a class a week i think the class should always be 3 hours long, meetings twice a week. i always learn so much in one meting but there isnt enough time to go out and do the projects that is often delayed. I really think we should push for field trips harder instead of having these extra credit it should be part of the course.

I liked how everything was layed out for us on what to look at for each chapter. It was very organized so it was easy to stay on top of everything for this fast class.

The instructor's recorded classroom lectures and slides for each section proved very helpful. Also, the study guide provided at the start of the course was helpful.

Although I am not a huge fan of the book work (class reading) of any class, Marty's class readings were not only informational, but also interesting which made it easier to understand and retain. His recorded lectures were also quite entertaining which made them fun, thus more enjoyable than many other lecturers.

Nothing was bad because the class went by so fast.

The Blackboard and Illuminate weekly sessions were difficult to attend, due to time conflicts, and contained repeated material from the recorded instructor's lectures (seemed like a waste of time).

Very good I would not recommend this course to people with busy lives because there is alot to do for it. But if someone had the time I would recommend it.

Overall, I enjoyed taking this course. The workload and deadlines were manageable. The course content was easy to understand and comprehend. Also, the instructor's humor was uplifting and encouraging.

I thought that Marty did an outstanding job of presenting the course material in a manner that was not only informational, but enjoyable-- anyone can present material to a class, but the difference between a good teacher and a great teacher is their ability to make the material relevant, accessible and enjoyable to their students. Marty succeeded in all three.

I don't think I have the right to talk about how to improbe this class.It is a fast pace course and if I was to complain of how much work their was I should not of taken it.

The Blackboard and Illuminate sessions could be done without. Video clips could also be updated.

The only improvement I think could be made is in regards to Blackboard. It seems like there are still kinks to be worked out there. Changing programs mid-term was a bit of a "hiccup" which semi- disrupted the flow of the class, albeit this was not Marty's fault at all-- and it should be said that he was more than gracious and patient in making sure that we as students transitioned and adjusted to the new program as easily and as seamlessly as was possible.

I enjoyed the scope of the course and the fact that it managed to include both prehistorical and postmodern art.

I enjoyed class discussions on elluminate. Also the lectures provided, even though it was an online class, were very helpful in understanding the subjects.

Online class meetings are more convenient for me and I was more motivated to attend (and be attentive). Many oportunities were given for grade improvement (extra credit and essay re-submissions).

I like the experiment of artist.

The subject material was very enlightening. I enjoyed the movie reports, and the art projects were fun.

Prof Nikou was extremely quick to respond to questions for those of us living on outer islands. He is also very fair, giving students several ways to improve their grades. This has been a wonderful and enriching experience for me, HCC is lucky to have Prof. Nikou!

I enjoyed being able to reside in the comfort of my own home to complete my assignments.

I liked the visuals and the backround of art shown in the class.

Some of the interface was a bit clunky. I'm not sure if there's a solution, and it didn't really create problems per se, but it was just a bit clunky.

He explained everything thoroughly and in details. He pushed us to strive. He gave us a lot of opportunity extra credit. I also liked the slides he would show us while he is lecturing.

Moana Nikou used both lecture and a hands on technique to teach the course. I liked working on projects because it allowed us to express our thoughts through art.

i liked everything. it was new and different to me.

I like the fact that he showed a lot of visuals during his class, which made sense because its an art class. He also was energetic, and involved students in his some of his class discussions.

I really enjoyed his enthusiasm when speaking about art.

I especially liked the projects we did, both in class projects and our four main projects. I also enjoyed his interacting with the class and how he taught a little bit of everything. Oh and I liked how he would give us examples of projects form student in the past.

Art history helped me out in my History 151 class.

I liked the fact that he made us do sketches in class other than having lectures all day. Drawing in this class was fun.

26. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

Since this class was online, being able to finish each section whenever I wanted was what I liked best. Even though there were sort of deadlines for each section like Section 4 and 5 on Tuesday, doing them whenever I wanted made it easier in terms of time.

The on-line discussions; the videos posted for us to watch; his lectures he had us listen to on-line.

This is the first art course I have taken that clearly defined the role of art in societal change. I thought it was amazing how art has played a definite role in humanity, history, and revolution. As it is recorded we record the history and feelings of those involved from those days. This is (seems to me) something that is usually harder to get out of a book.

Our instructor Moana Nikou is tremendously knowledgeable in the field of Art History and I would argue that he could very effectively teach many courses related to the fields of anthropology, world history, religion and theory the fine arts. He is extremely interesting in his lectures, articulate and challenging. He also demonstrates exceptional patience towards students that may have none or little exposure the arts or its histories. I thought the online materials and projects were excellent. I highly recommend this instructor and feel honored to have been in his class!

I love the way we can have the virtual meetings online during class sessions with opportunities to hear each other's voices and see each other through webcam. We were able to see each other's work and present it to each other describing the process, our feelings and thoughts.

27. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

Having some sections being crammed with information was what I liked least. Each section had a different main idea though so it's understandable that some would require more work.

Having just mid-term and final exam. Too much information to remember because of everything being squashed into 6 wks. Maybe for summer courses only, he should make quizzes after three chapters worth 40 pts. each. So, he could have 5 quizzes worth 40 pts. each totaling 200 pts.

Professor Nikou explained and defined the roles of Art and artists very well. I think I enjoyed his open interpretation method of instruction and acceptance of our ideas.

I had some small technical difficulties accessing the website, however this is most likely due to my older laptop.

None... I had a great and progressive time in this class.

28. My overall evaluation of this course is...

This course was good. I don't think there are any major problems regarding this class.

Course was put together very nicely on-line. I was hesitant taking it on-line, but it was as if attending class, therefore I learned a lot. Instructor very knowledgeable and enjoyable!

Very good. Summer courses are very difficult and this is compounded with this being a WI course. Professor Nikou however, has delivered the lesson very well and allowed for as much time as possible (given our schedule).

It is a great class for working student like myself. The requirements were clear and expectations, precise.

29. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.

I think this class might be improved if the on-line class sessions were changed to around one hour and thirty minutes per session. Although some may not like having an extra thirty minutes per session, I feel that the instructor will be able to explain more about each section.

Quizzes instead of two major exams and maybe separating the WI students from non-WI students. Each took up valuable time from each other during on-line chat. I know it is seems senseless to have two lectures on the same sections, but can't think of any other way.

I was not entirely clear on the expectations of the writing assignments. Several of my papers were marked as incorrect only by the use of verbage or because a particular phrase was misunderstood. Perhaps, allowing the reader to take in the paper with a bit more of an open mind would be beneficial. Other than that this course was the best summer course I have taken thus far. Professor Nikou is a very good instructor and I felt welcome and able to freely converse in the class.

I really have nothing to add at this time. I think Moana Nikou has done a superb job in preparing his materials and students for an excellent introduction to art history!

There were just a fewl technical glitches I am sure will improve in the future as the class continues for the future students. Other than than this course is great!

I loved exploring the language of art. I was taught how to transfer ideas and thoughts by this course. Mr. Nikou was able to not enlighten me of "art" but to use relativity in his lecture. He is VERY THROUGH when it comes to direction and expectations in his projects. Bravo.

Being in his writing intensive course, I enjoyed being able to continuously edit my essays in order help me improve on my sentence structure. In addition, I enjoyed being given the opportunity in a variety of ways to earn extra credit points.

I really liked the fact that Marty really explained things and made it very easy to understand what we were looking at or why a specific work of art is so important or how two works of art could be of the same thing but so different at the same time. I also appreciated the fact as a WI student he allowed us to stay to do art activities with the ART students.

My overall evaluation of this course is that the teacher is really helpful and is willing to ask any question. As long as you follow his syllabus, you'll do great in his class.

This class is very hands on and educational. Not only do we learn about art, but about our history and how art influenced it. I would recommend this class to anyone who has a passion for art and historical background.

Cant think of any because Mr.Nikou has used all forms and tools in the use of educating. Creative and intellectually talented by nature.

I think this course could be improved by giving the students more art assignments to do during class rather than telling them to do it for homework. I think if we did more art in class, i would have been more excited to go to class.

It could be improve by make study guides shorter because there are just to many information. Another thing that can be improved is making stricter rules on phone texting during class because it can be distracting.

Hmm...possibly less lectures and more in class projects? But he used time management well and his lectures are very important in being able to do well on the exam.

I think this class is a good class and it doesn't have to be improved

lessen the amount of projects, but increase the quality/lessons learned within each one? maybe a great painting, sculpture, and museum one instead of multiple small ones.. granted the sketches could still be avaliable since it's capable of being completed in class.

I think this course could be improved by showing more videos. Although, teachers are required to teach and give lectures, it may need a different approach by using activities kids love most like television or playing games.

He teaches with lots of detail so there is not much improvement to do, just keep teaching as you do. =]

i feel that the course was good. he had power points to show visualy what he was explaining. and he also lectured about the power points to further your understanding. always on time, played COOL music and wasnt afraid to be himself...

I would liked to have this course be a single course just for writing intensive students, so that we are able to discuss more about the required papers needed for this course.

Allow for WI students to be excused when ART students have projects due.

I suggest this course should be renamed to Art History 101. I know many students expected to learn how to produce art and did not expect to learn more history than to create art.

I really enjoyed the hands on activities that Professor Nikou had us do. I enjoyed being able to not only learn about art, but create art and explore my artistic abilities in this class.

I liked the way the whole course is designed. It gives an insight of most of the things which otherwise wouldn't be possible. It helped me to realize the creative side in me. The learning methods used by the instructor are perfect and one does learn a lot in each and every lecture. I always looked forward to attend the lecture.

Doing the projects it was moor of a hands on kind of thing

The textbook and the projects cause since we barley had any grades, the projects were easy ones.

I would have to say I learned more than I knew. There where things that I didnt even know about that had to deal with Art. Everyday I learn more and more about Art and hopefully keep learning about Art.

The thing I found most valuable in this course besides the repitition of practicing in my sketchbook, was of course the slides and explanation that he gave. It was very helpful to listen as well as visually see what we were learning about. To have a visual aid, greatly enhanced my knowledge and education on art and history as well. The pictures helped me to kind of give me a better understanding. Also with history sometimes things are complicated and not easy to explain, but the teacher did a terrific job in explaining what he was trying to teach and what we had to learn.

I like doing the projects

Teacher/instructor had made a lot of extra credit in watching movies and giving us little projects. It helped me out alot to understand in that sense then to write from a lecture.

Actually learning about the different types of Art, the Artists, and the differences in the styles of art each artist projected in their specialty.

The handouts for the notes for the test.

The teacher was always so into loving the art world that it really helped to get you engaged in the course. The videos and activities were a lot of fun too.

The great pictures and movies that the teacher showed us is what is most valuable to me in this class. I also appreciate the many wonderful extra credit opportunities that Mr. Nikou have to offer and I wish I could start all over and be more serious with my work assignments.

I liked that the class was very organized, it made everything easy to follow along with.

The thing that I found the most valuable in this course was how the teacher taught the class. He took the time to explain things that needed to be understood.

The most valuable and helpful thing in the course was the combination of both art history and projects/drawings we did. It gave me the opportunity to not only learn about art and its history, but to perform and apply certain principles learned in the class. The videos were also good because they broke the monotony that lectures tend to have on students.

I thought all the slides that he showed and even some of the movies were very helpful throughout the course.

I appreciated Professor Nikou's enthusiasm about the subject being taught. His knowledge and passion for the subject made this subject more interesting and believable.

i like how you offered so many extra credit opportunities within the course i wish i took advantage of them and turned my art work in. the reason why i didn't was because i felt like it was being judged i guess vie always had that mindset in things.

He is a great teacher and wants you to learn, but its very hard for me to learn from just him speaking.

Mr.Nikou is a very good teacher in teaching the class. He explains things very well so I can understand. He was a great teacher to have this semester.

He has a good sense of humor and is very educated and intelligent in his work. With these characteristics, it becomes fun for students to learn from teachers such as these. Teaching material such as art can be difficult but Mr. Moana Nikou teaches in a way that makes art fun and easy to just be creative and have fun with.

He would have to be the best art instructor i have had ever. He gives such interesting videos and it gets me hooked. He knows so much about showing the class things that would have us hooked on it. He's a funny guy that makes class fun but also is serious about his lesson. I enjoy the hands on art work that we do and have done and i got so interested in the techniques he did that it he showed and taught us that i went out and bought more supplies to do it on my own. I loved it.

He is absolutely thorough in his teachings and speaks very well. Very fair and recognizes the student's potential in art even though the student never had art. Mr. Nikou also recognizes the student's work efforts in completing the assignments and projects. He never ever puts down any student who expresses their meaning of artistic ways.We are able to learn basic art and give practice to it.

I think that he should do more art projects during class then lecturing.
