6. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Lectures were informative and well thought out. Dr. Hui has an exceptional passion for economics and his enthusiasm helped me, a non-economics major, retain interest in the course. Without this enthusiasm I would have most likely dropped the course and tried again when outside factors would have made it easier to focus on school.
The class lectures supplemented the textbook very well. Professor was very clear with explanations and was willing to help out with homework assignments.
MODELS! and examples :)
I learned a lot about constructing models and how an increase in government spending, TFP etc will effect the real economic variables. Everything we learned in class was reinforced by real data and graphs showing that the actual data fit our models.
Office hours. Professor Hui He did a great job offering his free time to help out students who needed it.
everything
The in class discussions.
He brings in alot of examples from outside..like going to the BEA website to calculate actual figures. that was really informative.
I enjoyed most the communications during class he spoke well and welcomed comments and suggestions.
Homework
Lectures. The book itself is tough to get through.
7. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
A focus on number crunching in homework problems was difficult, as while they did allow students to demonstrate understanding of concepts they also drowned the economic principals beneath number crunching.
I think majority of what we covered in class pertained to gaining a better understanding of macroeconomics. Majority of the class was valuable. Not too much to say here.
Everything was important in its own way.
nothing
The equations and convoluted mathematics.
lengthy slides (sometimes)
he sometimes rambled and toward the end the class sped up to quickly an most couldnt follow.
some boring powerpoints
Videos.

17. Other comments:
Hui He is an excellent economics professor. Committed to excellence in himself and helping his students understand the material. He helped me to succeed in this class when outside influence made it difficult and I would gladly take another course from him.
He is a very good teacher, the only disadvantage to his teachings is his accent. It can be quite heavy sometimes. Other than that great teacher :)
Sometimes it is hard to understand the professor because of the language barrier, but he tries his best to communicate clearly, which he does for the most part. Hui He is a great professor and his main goal is for the success of his students. He was always available for extra help and answered any questions I had thoroughly. The subject is a little dry, but Hui He tried his best to make it interesting, and I feel like I learned a lot this semester. I would gladly take another course from him, I feel that he is very knowledgeable and passionate about economics, and it shows in his teaching. It makes me take a stronger interest in the subject and the class!
I enjoyed the class very much.
awesome
Thanks for an informative semester Prof.He

Teacher's constant encouragement to look at economic intuition behind formuli
The problem sets were valuable in the sense that they really force the students to familiarize themselves with the material. The discussions were also very lively and interesting.

professor and tutor
Although I sometimes am skeptical of this type approach to macroeconomics, professor He made the subject matter more accessible. He succeeded in presenting it's overall framework
Understanding the basic Macroeconomic models and their economic intuition. Dr. He shows a deep understanding of the intuition of these models and never lets the class forget them. His passion for the subject shows and his energy and enthusiasm is contagious. One of the best professors I have ever had.
practice on intuition, clear explanation of important ideas, the subject-related jokes
7. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

I think a TA with a strong macro background is essential. This subject is SUPER TOUGH.
In order to accomplish some of the matlab homework questions, it would be helpful to have more experience with matlab. Perhaps some of this practice could be accomplished in the summer cram course or the math-econ course? It seems to be a very relevant skill to have for real world economists.
the subject was simply way over my head

17. Other comments:
Perhaps going over less proofs and spending more time on the application might be helpful to the students.
The course can be improved by giving students, especially those without programming experience, a more step by step approach to learninghow to use Matlab and Dynare.
Since the course required a certain level of programming Matlab code, there should be more sessions focusing on Matlab training. I think this will be beneficial to the future research as well.
Could use more Matlab sessions, though lack of Matlab in computer lab hurts the ability to have Matlab session.
He is always willing to answer every question we ask and answer it super clearly which is waht i like the most because that is one of the most important thing for a very hard class like Macro.
would it be better to have the second macro course in the first sem and prof. He's recursive macro on the second sem? It would do good to survey the whole field before zooming in to the recursive stuff. Also, let me emphasize that having a well-versed in macro TA is EXTREMELY crucial.
Very challenging and interesting class. Dr. He is a great professor who I look forward to learning from again.
