| The techniques of drawing. |
| We developed at a much faster rate because we were given interesting tasks with the use of
all the mediums that we used. The assignments I felt helped us gain mastery of the
mediums much quicker than I would have otherwise. |

improve and learn more within this field. |

entire class', technical ability. She really pushed everyone to get out of their comfort zones,
artistically, in order to reach their maximum potential. I personally gained a great deal from the
class and now have better technical skills as well as creative ability. Her and the course really
helped me to overcome my weaknesses. |
| Reemâ??s demand for excellence kept me on my toes, and I grew as an artist because of it. |
| The variety of assignments we completed in and out of class was very wide,
furthering my knowledge of how to complete said assignments using different
techniques of line and value as well as how to use multiple mediums such as
ink, charcoal, and pencil.
Reem was also very helpful when it came to answering questions and was always
available for help during her office hours as well as over e-mail. |

| I appreciated the emails in the beginning of the semester when she would remind us of what was due the following day or what materials we needed for the next class period. I would have been better prepared for class had she kept up with emails. |

| I have really no critiques as to her teaching style and methods, because what she did worked and I
came out a better artist. One thing I would have liked to see though is her interpretation of some of
the assignments we did in class. She always gives good demonstrations, but a completed example
of many assignments would be interesting to see from a student perspective. |

| I really enjoyed this class even though it was extremely time-consuming. Reem is very knowledgable in Art and students respect and think highly of her. However, taking this class in a 16 credit schedule was so stressful and difficult for me. I think it was more than the anticipated 3 credit course I thought I registered for. |

| Reem was a very strict and demanding instructor and made sure that you knew you needed
to put in the effort and hard work needed to improve your skills. This has by far been one of
my most demanding and challenging classes yet, however I feel that at the same time it has

| I think that Reem was a great teacher! Super hard core but she made everyone learn what needed to be taught. She's pretty nice once you get to know her and get over the fear of not being able to pass her class, or the fact that she wears all black! I really liked the class especially when we started doing interesting still lives! Reem has issues with students that act like her daughter because she is in fear that they are superior to her, that is the reason she snapped at me in class the other day. that's all i have to say :)

| I can honestly say that despite how challenging this course was at times, standing up drawing for
three hours each class and spending three hours a week on homework, I feel that it was worth it in
the end. Reem was able to push me to further my drawing abilities. Simply put, I learned how to be a
better drawer. Looking back on all the work and effort I can see how that all has helped me to
progress as an artist. |

| I would HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone who wants to improve their ability as an artist
technically as well as in other aspects. Even if they are not art majors, but are serious about doing
art this class would be so beneficial. Not only did I come out of this class with much stronger skills,
but I gained things that translate into everyday life, such as patience, risk taking, better work
ethics, and more. I can honestly say this was one of my favorite classes I have ever taken
throughout my entire education, despite having spent exhausting, countless hours on work. It is
what made the whole thing pay off in the end. |
| Of all the teachers I have come across during my college career thus far, Reem stands out as the
most passionate. It is clear that she cares deeply about her responsibilities as a teacher, and
although her course was tough, I appreciated Reemâ??s dedication to push each student to draw to
the absolute best of their abilities. This was the most challenging course I have ever takenâ?¦I spent
a lot of this semester frustrated and in tears, but I am leaving this class with a better understanding
of the concepts that were covered, and I have no doubt these concepts will help me immensely as I
move forward towards my art-photography degree. |
| I would definitely recommend Reem's class to a friend or anyone interested in
taking an introduction to 2-dimensional art class to further their abilities
as an artist. She has high expectations but with a good effort, this class
is passable. Reem is always helpful during class, giving pointers of how to
make the composition of the piece more sound. She also gives compliments to
the student when work meets or exceeds expectations. |

| I appreciated the fact that Reem helps us individually and asks questions so that we can better
understand what she is trying to teach. The constant explanations of why something works and
does not work was also very helpful and valuable. |
| Learning reem's approach to painting was very valuable. All teachers, artists, and non-artists
will have different views and oppinions about art, and it is good to see different points of
view. Reemerge challenged all of us in the process of making a painting and whe tried to
make us see things we didn't see before. |
| The lectures, and movements. It really helped me learn the movements which is vital to find my
place in the art world. |
| Everything the professor had to say was invaluable. |
| Reem is highly skilled in teaching painting in a way that is easy to understand and allows the
student to develop a personal style.
In one semester she presented 10 years worth of painting skills, color mixing and paint handling.

| I appreciated the art history slide shows, but alot of the early content I saw in survey of
global art history and I thought it was a waste of time. Reem also only likes certain art works
and calls everything else trash, which I think can be harsh and sometimes discouraging. |

| I respect Reem as an instructor because she is passionate about what she is does. |
| Absolutely loved the class. Reem is a very good teacher, you can tell that she loves that she does
and she's good at it. I wouldn't want to take this class from any other teacher. I'm really glad that I

| Professor Bassous is the best professor in the UH Manoa Art Department. I've learned so much
from her. She is very encouraging and supportive to her students. She articulates well the ideas,
concepts, and methods of artistry necessary for developing artists. She has gone beyond teaching
simple ideas. Professor Bassous makes students really think about the purpose of art, concepts,
color, marks and so much more- that which are essential to understand (as an artist and even in
life). At the end of the class- it was obvious that all students had improved tremendously
because of Professor Bassous. Of all the classes i've taken and the professors I've learned from-
Professor Bassous has made an impact on my art career and life. The only concern I do have- is
that Professor Bassous does not teach beyond the intermediate level- and I would prefer
Advanced/Upper level courses from Bassous than most professors at the UH Manoa Art
Department.
Her style and method to teaching is highly interactive. She is available- and more than willing to
help students understand fully the importance to techniques, compositions, colors etc.
I am truly very thankful for taking this class from Bassous. She has helped me- and I have taken
away knowledge, experience, skill. Because of Bassous' opinions and thoughts- I feel as though
I've been changed for the better as an artist and as a human being. |
