|Awesome class. It's tough material but professor Woollen breaks it down.|
|Professor Woolen is a great and enthusiastic teacher. She really encourages us to think and analyze instead of just memorize and regurgitate content.|
|Professor Woollen has to be one of my favorite accounting teachers here at
Shidler. She is an incredibly awesome teacher, and knows the material
extremely well. In a way, I almost feel guilty because I know that had I been
a better student, I would have done a lot better. Overall, I really enjoyed
Professor Woollen's class, and consider myself to be lucky to have her for
Accounting 401 this semester as well. The course material is challenging, but
she is an incredible teacher and does an amazing job teaching.
Much aloha Professor Woollen! Surf is up this summer! :)|
|I like the way she teaches.|
|Such a great teacher and so knowledgable about the subject. She is a hard teacher, but pushes her
students. Therefore I have worked hard and learned so much from this class.|
|I believe this course would be a lot more enjoyable if there is an implementation of group discussions during class ie. real life case examples regarding financial reporting issues, ethical conduct, and so forth.|
|Excellent Prof. I would recommend her to have an ACC321 class.|
|Great class, learned a ton from Professor Woollen!|
|Though it is a tough class for me, but I am able to learn more from this class.
|I liked how you taught by going through PowerPoints, working through class
assignments with us and then having us work on homework before assigning
quizzes. You do a good job encouraging the class, and I appreciate the extra
credit. Best of luck to you!|
|Although, I may have personally did quite poorly in this class, she has taught me something different about accounting. Accounting is not only about memorization of numbers and other formulas and constant painstaking memorization of facts and figures. It is more about knowing what you previously know and building upon that knowledge. I guess maybe it was too late for me to understand that, but hopefully in the next four accounting classes I will be taking, that I will be able to utilize this knowledge and effectively apply it to my future studies.|
|Best professor I've ever had. I enjoy the class because of professor Woollen. I see no room for improvement.
Keep up the amazing work! I wish you taught other classes as to continue learning under you.
Thanks for everything!|
|Professor Woolen does an exceptional job walking students through the processes of accounting.
She has a great grasp of learning styles and cognitive development. I feel that could help many other
new professors, regardless of subject, with preparation of material and cognitive development of the
students. Also she has always been helpful when I have needed her assistance. In my opinion,
Shidler college is fortunate to have her on their faculty.|
|she is a great teacher. the course is hard but she makes it entertaining and interesting. way better taht my 321 teacher|
|This was a really challenging course, but it was worth learning from
|Most knowledgeable teacher that I've had for Accounting. Straight forward and really makes you think analytically. Would recommend to any student who really wants to be an Accountant.|
|She is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and easy to understand professor. I
loved her class and looked forward to going to class each day. If you go into
her office hours, she is very approachable to talk to and encouraging. She is
THE best accounting professor I ever had.|
|Very hard teacher, but worth the work you put into it.|
|This class makes me really work hard so I have learned a lot and I am interested in accounting more than before. Thanks for teaching.|
|It was a great course. I really learned a lot despite getting a few bad grades after the first midterm. Though I am a little mad I got several bad grades, Mary Woolen really pushed us to master the material or at least master it enough to build more things upon it.|
|Great teacher. Her course is VERY challenging and I felt she does a good job teaching the material--especially on how to do the accounting calculations.|
|Class is very straightforward. It was very difficult and I learned a lot, but to have an exam with an average of 60% in a major accounting course should say something. Grading is very harsh in class and somewhat counterproductive in terms of efforts that the students put forth.|
|This was a difficult course because of the vast amount of information that needed to be presented. I truly appreciate Prof Woollen's enthusiasm and desire to communicate the information to the class.
My recommendations would be to use examples in class that were not in the book. When I was confused about an example (or was looking for one that was slightly different), it was not helpful to go to refer to the book and have no other options since it was the same example from class.
The second test was long for the allotted time. I think the stress of trying to finish also caused students to make mistakes where they may not have if they had more time.
I liked the handouts and the in class problems. They were very helpful in reinforcing the information.|
|This class is the most clearly outlined and structured courses I have taken at UH. Grades are distributed fairly with no favoritism and bias. The structure is rigid and the adequate reminders of upcoming assignments and quizzes are given. Overall this was an excellent course and Professor Woollen is an extremely qualified instructor.|
|She is the best ;)|
|Maybe I did not study enough... Sorry... But those journal entries are easy
to be mixed up...Thank you for putting so much effort on us!|
|Great teacher. I learned a lot.|
|Professor Woollen is hands down the best accounting professor at Manoa. She is extremely knowledgeable and teaches in a manner that is simple to understand and practical for real world applications.|
|The material was difficult, but the way it was taught made it easier to understand. Thank you.|
|Professor Woollen is and has been an excellent teacher. I wish all the
teachers at Shidler would engage in teaching the way she does. She makes me
want to learn|
|I like her presentations in ppt and will suggest she takes the 2nd midterm exam before spring break and with 3 chapters.
Maybe one extra quiz will help us to improve our grades and learn more.|
|Mary Woolen possessed a great deal of knowledge in this difficult accounting course. The content for this course is vast and it's really difficult for the students to be organized. However, she was able to make things easy for us by preparing the slides and other handouts many days in advance. The exams are very difficult, but if the student puts a lot of his/her effort, then it's possible to do well in the class. She is a great teacher, but tremendously difficult to get an A. If a student has a strong interest in learning a lot and is willing to put in the extra effort, then taking from Mary Woolen is my recommendation. The faculty is blessed to have her as a teacher.|
|She's very thorough and actually cares about students. She is fair.|
|I may not be getting the best grade in the class or completely understand every single bit of the
material taught, but Woollen is by far one of my favorite instructors. She is very enthusiastic about
accounting, which is generally not the most interesting subject, so her enthusiasm makes me want
to learn and try harder in the class. Whenever I encounter any problems, whether it be related to the
course or health problems, she is always very understanding and willing to help during office hours
or accommodate if I miss a class. While the course itself may not be in my top 10, Professor Woollen
|She explains all content and materials clearly to students.
She makes the materials much easier to understand, if you don't get it the first time, try go through again, you will have a 80% chance in understanding.
She is a great professor.|
|Should make the mid terms questions like the quiz. Mid term questions were hard to understand.|
|The course content should be broken up more into smaller sections. The amount of material to learn for the tests were sometimes too much. Her examples from class were straight from the book. The homework problems were very similar to the book & in class problems but the test material took everything one step further-which is very tough to do for multiple chapters within a short amount of time. Her quizzes were easy compared to the tests. Maybe she should challenge us on her quizzes and homework so that we are more prepared for the test. I don't like that one test grade can take me from an A to a B-. If everyone did bad on a test, it is obviously a fault on the teaching side and not the learning side.|
