13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
|
| He was very encouraging and really got the entire class to participate in discussions. Class was very enjoyable. |
| Made sure students got involved in the class. He was a calm people person. |
| Professor Garneau's strength is that he is very encouraging and the atmosphere he creates in class encourages others to participate and contribute to the class discussion. |
| good communicater. Strong patience |
| He is very patient, and he knows how to teach. |
| He is adept and professional knowing the style guides required for MLA formatting in the english department of the Universities, as well as an expert in grammar, but not just that, knows good literature that is engaging on a variety of levels, which therefore keeps the students interest in the class ever growing. He also is a genuinely caring teacher and his teaching methods in taking time with the subject while keeping in line with the schedule reflects that. |
| He communicated well and knew what he was talking about. |
| Very knowledgeable. I felt confident that what he taught us was relevant, and will help all his students pursue their goals. |
| It was easy to approach Professor Garneau with any concerns, learn the subject matter and its applications, and although he is relatively new at KCC, he was well organized for his lessons. |
| He has sense of humor 'for the heck of it' making us understand the subject
using easy methods. |
| Professor Garneau is a friendly, courteous, and caring teacher. His easy-
going demeanor definitely helps with putting the students at ease when
learning the course material. |
| He is a wonderful editor and knows his structural english very well. |
| He knows how to get many of the students involved during class. |
| He always encourages students to participate to the class. |
| He had a great but basic way of teaching for the students to become interactive with the class. |
| Knows his grammar. |
| Very by the book so he gets things done in a way they are supposed to and when they are supposed to. He is always on time and ready by the time class is supposed to start. |
| He knew the material well.
He is open minded and encourages students to speak their minds. |
| very intelligent and knowledgable in the english language. he seems to have had a very full younger
life and has learned a great deal from his experiences. he was very fair, did not make it impossible
to get a fair grade for the effort the student put into the class. |
| Enthusiasm, Honesty, and a Sense of Humor |
| He's very understanding and teaches key points really well. |
| English, knew material |
| He has an ability to teach in many different ways |
| not only have i personally become a better writer in general, i have also become a more "confident" writer. Theo showed an excellent representation of the basic english 100 course. his enthusiasm for making a good writer went beyond getting "the grade." he was more concerned that i understood the concept and skill vs. having the material be perfect. i not only enjoyed the the course material he selected but also enjoyed Professor Theo as a person. He made the environment comfortable and open. i thoroughly enjoyed everything i got from this course. :) A+++! |
| He is very forgiving, very patient, and is passionate about the things he teaches. |
| He always thinks of the students. Very open to thought and opinion, he does not restrict us and encourages us to think and see the bigger picture. |
| Professor Garneau is very personable, and he is well-versed in the material. The reading and assignments focused on interesting topics/issues and made completing homework assignments more enjoyable. |

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
|

| no changes |
| none, he's great! |
| None |
| Nothing; keep up the fine work. |
| He is already an awesome teacher. |
| None |
| None |
| Would be better if we could see our overall grade anytime. |
| Giving less readings. |
| None |
| i would have probably preferred to have an actual book so that we didn't have to hunt down the
syllabus every time for the readings, then download the reading. having limited internet access
made that a little bit of a pain. |
| None |
| More emphasis on grammar and analysis on essays read. |
| i really couldn't have asked for a better course. |
| Nothing. Don't change, man. |
| none |
| He is a kind person, and students took advantage of that. I am not saying he should change anything, but if he deemed it necessary for future classes, he could apply stricter rules and punish the students who break them. |
|
|
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
|
| Would always answer everyone's questions with respect. Never discounted anyone's opinion. |
| He often asks questions about students. If a student was absent he will usually ask why. He shows a general concern for what the student is doing and how they are fairing in the class. |
| showed indiviual concern |
| He told me that I should get a tutor when he tough is was needed |
| Available through email, out of class in office hours, and always willing and taking the time to answer questions. Especially it being an english 100 class taking the time to teach us all the correct MLA formatting, although tedious at times, never expressed frustration with the students. |
| He asked questions. |
| He always made sure that his students understood what was expected of them and was open to any discussion or questions. |
| He always writes direct good advices on our papers and how to improve on our
weakness, besides, he is always available after class for discussion. |
| He is available almost always via email. |
| He would talk to people after class that seemed to need help. |
| He brought everyones attention to the readings to make sure they understood them, so that the
students could understand different styles of writing. |
| He shows concern by trying to get everyone involoved in everything that the class is doing at the time. |
| He didnt exactly show major concerns for students, he believe that at this level of education
students should be responsible for their own learning. |
| Connecting using his experiences as a teenager in English courses |
| He kept emphasizing how important coming to class was and the importance of punctuality and being on time. |
| Asked for opinions and feedback |
| see question #13 |
| He addressed students personally, and stressed informal atmosphere. |
| He encourages the students to engage in class debates--to voice their opinions and participate. I suffer from social anxiety, and--unlike my other professors--he never forced me to participate by threatening me with point deduction/a lower grade. He was very accommodating, and I really appreciated that. |
