2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?

This course provided me with the knowledge of Information Systems integrated into the Accounting field. As technology advances, the surge of automation continues to grow rapidly and keeping up-to-date with the Accounting Information Systems is vital.

It helped me understand some of the concepts they used not only in accounting but in business as well.

This helped me not only to learn more about the accounting information system but it helped me to tie it all in to my senior practicum and as well as my full time job.

This course helped me understand the importances of the information systems to accouting.

It opened my eyes to more career opportunities and how things work in real life system wise

Accounting Information Systems is the future of accounting.

It taught me about the AIS, about separation of duties, about internal control, and all different things.

I learned different kinds of accounting systems used in businesses. But it wasn't all just accounting systems, we learned about so may other different types of analysis systems used in a business.

This was an interesting and practical course. This is the first text book that I willingly read week in and week out.

It introduces me to many computer accounting applications. Actually, this course has showed me the real accounting world. It teaches me that accounting is more than journal entries, debit and credits, and financial statement. It show me how transactions are handle in corporations. Very useful class.

It allowed me to find information about the computer systems that are used for accounting.

I taught me how to do work in AIS.

This course went beyond theory and illustrated working processes for a variety of accounting systems which helped me to understand real applications of such systems.

It was very helpful because I'm going to be a CPA and every accountant needs to be well versed in using accounting information systems.

By taking this course, I gained knowledge on accounting information systems. I'm not an accounting major and have not worked with any accounting systems prior to this class. I know have knowledge on the systems that organizations may be using.

I learned more about the accounting field in general. I was informed with information about accounting information systems and different aspects about accounting.

It gave me more of an analytical perspective that made it easier to view things as a process.

This course helped me to better understand the fundamentals of an accounting information system. It described the internal control structure and auditing procedures for AIS.

Through this course, I was able to understand a lot more of what goes in to information systems that allow for smooth accounting procedures. There is definitely a lot that accounting information systems involve.

I currently work with the accounting software Oracle and PeopleSoft and this class as brought new understanding to what i do every day at work. i have a deeper understanding of the importance of securing company information. i also see the importance of what i do on a daily basis and what PwC is looking for when they audit us every year! I work for a major publicly traded corporation and this class has helped me to understand the complexities of our AIS.

This course allows others to see the other side of accounting that is controlled from the business end to keep things secure from being corrupted by unethical entities.

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.

Although mentioned earlier in the course, it would help students get familiarized with various Accounting Information Systems if we had actual hands-on training on the programs.

I enjoyed the resource material provided in this course. It helped to read along with the course material.

Maybe adding some excel work would help in understanding its concepts and how to use it.

Maybe an in class class is better!

I think it flows well the way that its designed.

I feel we had just the right amount.

I think there should be practice quizzes for each chapter. The questions on the actual quizzes are very limited, which makes it harder to prepare for the mid-term and final.

Maybe allowing a free copy of Access or comparable program for us to learn from. This copies are expensive but maybe a discount if all of us students opt in?

I feel that the class was perfect the way it was set up, and that there are no necessary improvements to be made.

Maybe some excel assignments might help understand the concepts of the information systems regrading excel since it is used so much in accounting.

I liked everything. Maybe just a little more extra credit or assignments.

More hands on examples of the systems we learned about would be beneficial.

As mentioned above, BUSA 416 should be a hybrid class. I would love to meet Professor Winter in personal and talk about forensic accounting and her work experience.

This course has been run like this for some time and the reason is that it works well the way its designed.

I really like the instructor's teaching style and methods of this class. I do not recommend any changes or additions to this class.

I have no comments. She provided he right amount of lecture notes, readings, and test material.

Many of the topics are very hard to learn by simply reading the text. I think there should be more assignments where we actually do the concepts discussed in the text. That would make it much easier to understand. I feel like I know very well what the text says, but I don't feel very confident that I can apply the concepts.

I feel Professor Winter's teaching style and course requirements are awesome. She definitely knows her subject matter and is able to pass this along to her students.

I also enjoy Professor Winter's classes. I think that she is organized and all course assignments and material are clear and well though out. Also, I like that the quizzes are spread out appropriately.

Dr. Winter is my favorite professor that I've never met. I usually feel like online professors don't really "care" about their students as much because they never have to meet them or get to know them, but I certainly did not get that feeling from Dr. Winter. She has to be nicest and most cordial professor that I've ever had. I really enjoyed taking this class and I owe that to her.

My overall evaluation of Andrea Winter is good. She is knows what she is teaching us and takes the time to answer our questions when we send her email messages.

Professor Winter is an awesome teacher, and is very understanding.

Very helpful when needed, and returns grades quickly, which is good when feedback is necessary or when I might need to take extra time to learn something.

I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot about the structure of a AIS. Professor Winter provides lectures and materials that helped me better understand accounting information systems.

It is the flexibility offered only by online courses that makes it appealing.

There is not much assignments. =)

Online courses always help me to go at a pace that works for me since I have a full time job, a full time student and a full time wife and mom!

Andrea Winter is very organized in her setup of the course requirements and her weekly assignments requirements.

The articles that show the relationship on what we study to real life scenarios

The flexibility. She gave us a week in advance notice for things to be due. The quizzes were fair 10 questions for 30 minutes is awesome. she gave us ample of time to finish things.

You can work at your own pace and time!

I liked the convenience of it the most because it allowed me to work around my other responsibilities and still learn just as much as if I had gone to class.

That it was at my speed and during my available time. The instructor was there to assist me and answer my questions, when I needed help from her.

There was enough time to finish the quizzes and to study for exams.

Because each week of the semester specifies what is due but there is flexibility when we are able to actually do them, I feel less anxious. For example, a quiz is due by the end of each week, but I have the option of taking it anytime during that week.

Undertanding the concepts behind AIS, and getting to know more about how the structure of an AIS is designed and works. I also liked that we were giving a little more independence in doing assignments. The work load was very managable, but at the same time it provided a lot of materials to learn from.

The ability to work on my own schedule, no specific days or times to log on and/or meet up. I liked that there were quizzes per chapter that better enables us to prepare for the mid-term and final exams.

This is a good course to take on-line. It was easy to understand the materials.

I am an Accounting major and it gave me the knowledge of the basis of Accounting and Accounting Information Systems.

This course taught me some of the aspects of the accounting information systems.

This class helped me gain insights on challenges of being a CPA, especially being able to identify problems with internal control and also issues related to IT as well.

Enhanced my knowledge because I had very little on this subject.

All accounting courses I have taken up until this class have taught me how to do accounting accounting from a paper-based process. Unlike those courses, this course has taught me the various applications and software alternatives that accountants may utilize when working with information systems. This course has enhanced my personal development by making me aware of job opportunities and professions that I once did not know existed

This course informed me about the many principles and applications ofacounting information systems. This course enhanced my knowledge in the area and I think everyone should take it because it teaches you the technological aspect of accounting, which is a must know in the accounting field.

More hands practice with actual Accounting Information Systems to try the options that are out there.

I would love to get a comparison of scores between classmates for quizzes and exams. I always think this information is beneficial to compare where I am at with others in the course.

The text seemed kind of dated and boring. Needed more interactive exercises with actual Accounting Information Systems.

Comparing grades of other students after quizzes or exams. Example: median grade.

For the quizzes, please set them to grade right after the due date and time. We get deep in suspense trying to see what we got on them after the due date and time when the grade should actually be there right after that time.

I liked Prof Winters teaching style and methods. I don't think there are any improvements needed.

I thought everything was well organized and well though out. I did not like the group project. It was very difficult trying to organize with 4 other people. I took an on-line course to do things on my own and on my own time. I did not have the time to be working with others.

Her teaching method is great the way it is.

she is an excellent online instructor with a very structured and organized course.

Good teacher. It's great when online teachers are detailed and straight to the point and focus on the material rather than group efforts because most people take online courses to fit into their hectic schedules. She was always available for questions and gave plenty of instructions to complete any assignments or prepare for tests.

very helpful, tries to answer every students questions and gives hints on the projects she assigned

knowledgeable, she gives the students a good amount of tools to learn the subject. she is fair in her teaching and grading. She extended deadlines for the group paper when I was going to be out of town, it shows she is compassionate about our experience and understanding of our schedules.

Prof Winter was a great professor and she was always informative in the beginning of the week with her announcements regarding the agenda's for each week. She was always prompt when responding to questions I emailed her.

I have taken the majority of my classes online and love it. I really like the flexibility it offers, and don't know if I would be completing my degree without it.

28. What did you like least about your online course experience?

My online preferences are: 1) Assignments that open when the semester begins and are due by the end of the semester. This takes the pressure off because I know I can do the assignments as I have time. 2) I had an online class this semester where the instructor assigned required/optional assignemnts. For example, there were 12 quizzes, 10 required and 2 optional. It motivated me to take as many as I could as early in the semester as possible, however if I wanted to try for a higher score I had the opportunity to do so; or if I had to miss an assignment I knew it was okay. The pressure was off and I could really learn.

I find it to be alot more time consuming than going to campus. Also, alot more reading.

Having to wait hours to see what we received on quizzes after the due date and time.

It can be difficult to manage deadlines with multiple online courses

Finding time to actually do it and eliminate distractions.. sometimes i end up doing something else online (like browsing, or chatting), especially if things get boring..

Group assignment. I do not see the point in 5 different individuals turning in one paper. I see why in a classroom setting group work is a testament to real life situations. But students pick online classes for the reason of it's flexibility. Having to rely on 4 different people for a grade, especially when dealing with the differences in writing styles. It was a 'grin and bear' experience. You don't want to criticize a peer's style of writing, even though you would never produce that level of work yourself, was challenging to accept.

Online learning is not like in-class learning. The least think I don't like is interactivity with professor and classmates face to face.

There's a lot of reading.

There isn't much interaction.

Good. This online course was great! Professor winter always stayed on top of updating our course materials. She graded everything in a timely manner and kept the class up to date if she did need more time. She provided feedback and gave good instructions. I would take another course with her.

In my opinion, online course limits my learning about the course because of lack of instructor and classmates feedback. It's different if the course has being taught in class for instructor can explain further the topics of the course.

Better understanding of AIS.

Very important course to take to understand the workings of AIS (accounting information systems). I will definitely use the information studied in this course and apply it to my work as well as my personal endeavors. I learned how AIS is planned to suit a company's needs, how it is constantly reviewed and updated, and how important it can be for the financial strength of a business.

I learned a lot more about the accounting information systems side other than debits and credits, ledgers and journals. There are more to that and this is what the class has taught me. Having to go through a case study about audits really opened me up to something different.

It has taught me more insight into AIS. Also, it allowed me to understand some of the programs already being used in my company.

It help me be aware of internal controls within the accounting information systems.

Enabled me to really make sure I understand the assigned readings prior to taking the weekly quizzes.

It gave me a wider perspective about certain areas of my major.

The only thing I didn't like with this course is that I didn't expect to do a group project for an online course. I take online courses because as a mother I do my homework when everyone in my home is asleep, so contacting others in a group becomes difficult because most of us are "non-traditional" students who have families or work full time or even both, so doing group work is challenging.

the group project was not very effective since it was an online class. some students were reluctant to participate (or gave very limited input) and still received a good grade on the efforts of the students doing all the work.

since it was an internet course with no required chats, the course was adequate and prof. winters was as thorough as could be given the nature of the class. prof. winters is a very understanding and "approachable" instructor regarding both course info and related info (i.e. advice on major and employment opportunities). I quote approachable since this is an online course and i live on maui...never even met prof. winters...

I enjoyed the fact that the instructor is passionate about her area of expertise and translated that into our learning experience. The added learning tools -- artiles and slides -- helped enhance our learning.

She's a fair professor and I highly recommend her to future students.

The group project. I was very hard to get in contact with people, especially when everyone is busy. A lot of students who are very busy and have families take online courses, so at times their responsiblities and mind set are not too focused with school. So at times, it shows in their work. It is difficult for someone who is also busy with the same things, takes it more seriously, and is the one getting the work done. Instead of a group project, I think an individual project would have been better.
