9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The lectures because he does not post them online for students to review.
The study guides were very helpful and I liked that the information in this class was also helpful in the lab section.
The entirety of the course was interesting.
I thought that the way the course was structured and organized was the most valuable for me because it was easy to understand what was expected from each class and how lectures would be done. Concepts were made clear and easy to understand and parallels to concepts were made frequently to help just remember material.
I always enjoyed Mr. Beau's teaching style because it always required some form of critical thinking. Professor Beau asked lots of questions during lecture to further engage us into his specialized field of study. His lectures were always interesting and his powerpoint slides were brief and concise containing only the major points the students need to know, while he elaborated on the significance of each topic he introduced. Mr. Beau is very knowledgeable in Anthropology and is very well-qualified to be teaching in this field. Keep it up Beau!
Powerpoints
Dr. Bae
There was a lot of information that was presented throughout the course so it was difficult to take it all in. But everything I learned in this course was extremely valuable.
Challenging us to think of ways in which early modern humans would have thought and adapted to environment.
The discussion on human evolutionary origins was particularly fascinating. At the very least, it helps contextualize our origins as a species millions of years ago.
The study groups to help students when exams came along.
all
This is a lecture course, but Professor Bae encourages class participation and discussion. Professor Bae is very much a intellectual and so it's very easy to get lost in the middle of lectures for many students. However, due to the encouragment for in-depth discussion, Professor Bae is kind in answering questions and not closing his mind to any answers. He also gives several extra credit opportunities and can be lenient when he knows how badly some of us are academically sufferning.
Hands on learning in the lab.
Not giving us the answer to an opinion and having is find our own.
The lectures included a substantial amount of information which was really interesting. I began to enjoy the lectures a lot more after we got past all the information that had to do with microscopic stuff like protein synthesis. I especially liked learning about primate behavior and how to compare it with human behavior. Sexual dimorphism is really interesting too and got me wondering how humans might continue to evolve. The theories on how we came to be what we are today are fascinating. For a lecture course, Dr. Bae did a good job keeping the class engaged and constantly thinking.
The powerpoint lecture was the most valuable aspect, I wish more of my courses were so well organized for note taking.
The open ended questions after every couple of slides allowed us to critically think about the material, and I truly enjoyed that.
The in class lectures and demonstrations were most valuable
I found that this course challenged us to learn more about the subject.
I liked how Professor Bae connected the information in which we were learning with questions. This helped keep me engaged and understand the concepts. I enjoyed how Professor Bae presents the information most.
The content is interesting.
Excellent lectures. Excellent tests. The TAs helped a lot.

I wish the classroom had more comfortable chairs, so I'd have an easier time concentrating on the lecture. The chairs are very run-down and look like they were there since the 1950's. Get some new chairs!

the power point, and not being able to see them after class was over.
There was a vast amount of material covered in the course, and all information given prior to exams was fair game, so there was A LOT to memorize. But keep in mind that I have a bad memory and horrible time management.
Slides.
It all important. That's a silly question!
All valuable.
I enjoyed everything about this course

Everything seemed to be specifically tailored to be really valuable, so there wasn't anything that wasn't valuable really.
The book
I particularly don't think there was anything least valuable, but I would have preferred if this were a MWF course as there is a lot of information for us to gather on Tuesdays and Thursdays on longer classes.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Slow down a bit in the lectures.
Teaching is fantastic but try to slow down on slides so we can write down important information.
Nothing in particular, but Professor Bae does come across as a little intimidating and unfriendly at first.
Order some new chairs for the classroom and keep up the good work!
Have homework assignments and a review lecture going over main points before the tests.
Less information, easier exams.

by giving us the power points, so we can study them, and by letting us use laptops to take notes.
Maybe don't make the tests so brutal? Like I go into them thinking I know what I'm doing but I end up doing a lot worst then I thought I would.
Give us a clue to spark our memory when asking us if we recognize pop culture references for extra credit (e.g. quote something from M.A.S.H.)
He goes through a lot of information really fast and that makes it very difficult to take it all down in notes.
No need he's really goodð???
Because there are so many terms and theories and all kinds of information, it's difficult to remember it all for the test. Even though I went to class and paid attention and studied for the tests, I didn't do as well as I would have liked. I really liked and noted when Dr. Bae told us to "remember that". Do that more.
I enjoyed Bae's teaching style. I guess the only thing I would change was how many movies we watched, personally there was just too many. I would've preferred he told us to watch them for homework.

I know that for copyright reasons, some things ant be posted online, however I think if there was more information that could be accessed online it would aid in studying for the course.
I don't think there is anything in particular for him to improve his teaching. I would appreciate it if the review sheets passed out had less topics. It was very hard for me to recollect what I had learned with the many terms. I focused too much on terms that proved not very important in the tests. Perhaps providing assignments along the way or having discussions would make it easier to further understand the content.

The tests were so straightforward, but I couldn't seem to pass them because of how points heavy the essay portions of the exams were.

I'm so glad this semester is over. I like the subject of Anthropology but it sucks that I couldn't enjoy it to its full extent because Dr. Bae made it unpleasant to go to class.
I would very much like to take more classes taught by Dr. Bae. Hopefully the stone tools making class he mentioned. I am glad I was a student of Dr. Bae, no one else could convey the amount of information in that class so well.

Although we were not given the powerpoint slides but were responsible for all materials covered, I felt like it not only pushed me to study but it also reinforced the materials on my mind since I was physically writing everything down. I like that we have TAs and both the TAs and Dr Bae showed a lot of knowledge on the materials covered in class and they were really helpful
I feel like the most valuable aspects were covered during the middle of the course. Those were the ones about different species and their anatomies. They helped me fully understand how to differentiate primates and humans (even our earlier ancestors) later in the semester.
The professor making opportunities towards students to succeed in the class
The entire course; it really challenged my brain power.
The origin of human
I thought that one of the most valuable aspects of this course were the PowerPoint slides that coincided with Professor Bae's lecture.
The content
The videos were great reaffirmation for the course content.
Learning the tenets of evolution! Fabulous!
The methods of physical anthropology and learning how to age/sex remains.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Maybe the copying down part because the down side of it is that I didn't have enough time to digest everything and concentrate in listening to what Dr Bae was saying that gives further details to what was stated on the powerpoint slides
I saw the teachings on old scientific beliefs important since they were the foundation for our research today, but some of the information was not necessarily crucial in my opinion. This would include learning about how genes are passed on. Those types of information were studied in regular biology in high school.

Dr. Bae was very on top of things. I honestly don't think he could improve his teaching. His grading is a little hard, so a better review would be nice.
its pefect to me
Make better study guides.
More video to demonstrate for the lecture
None.
Having a class in the morning is tough, so perhaps adding a video to start the class, or more visuals.
I think the class is fine the way it is conducted.
Slow down, offer more examples and really check students understanding of course material. Don't just assume that students know scientific details. Encourage questions.
Give the study guides out soon so that the students have a higher chance of doing well on the exams.
This course seemed to place more importance on grading how fast students can copy down notes instead of making sure that everyone actually understood the materials, information, and concepts presented.

This class has excessive material, there could have been some more help in preparation for tests.
This class moved very fast and had little support from readings to lectures or study guides. The tests seemed like their goal was to trick you instead of assess your learning.

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I felt that the most valuable aspect of this course were the hands-on interactive labs.
Understanding the history and present information on humans
The variety of material available to work with in a hands on manner.
I feel like the forensic anthropology section was the most valuable since we always discussed and analyzed bones in class. It was important to fully cover all the bones in the human body because we kept comparing these to our early ancestors to the end of the semester.
Kristen was really helpful and always readily available even after lab hours ended. That really helps reinforce our learning or understanding of the materials covered in class
IM NOT IN THE LECTURE
All of the material was engaging.
The hands on approach. Being about to actually handle bones really helps the learning process.
How to identify the gender, ancestral, feature of species.
Being able to have hands on experience with the fossils were the most valuable to me.
The lecture overviews before each lab helped to reinforce the information needed for the lab work. Also the clearly defined worksheets that were given for the lab made the lab work itself easier to grasp because rather than being confused on the assignment details, we were able to focus on the topics we were learning. Also the ability to be hands on with the materials helped to further my understanding of the course subjects. Also not being allowed computers in the lab itself forced me to not rely on the Internet to answer questions, but rather forced me to use deduction and critical thinking to solve problems and issues.
Learning about human bones and structure
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None.
The book doesn't complement the lab too much.
Everything was valuable and was carried on to the next topic.
That everything has to be typed out
NOT IN LECTURE
The least valuable were the post lab worksheets.
Sometimes there is extra information that is just onfusing.
N/A
Taking the online quizzes were least valuable. They really did not further my understanding of the information, but rather felt like "busy" work.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
None.
Kristen taught this lab and i Think she is doing an awesome job withit. It made it easy for me to understand the class lectures and labs. Also she engages in her students to help with their work to pass the course.
Find a better textbook
The lab was great and doesn't need improvement.
Maybe Kristen could speak a bit slower
NOT IN LECTURE
The notes that we were given were extensive and the lab instructor would often speak very fast. At times I felt like she just wanted to stop lecturing because she would sigh. I realize that it was alot of material to present, but to us taking notes it seems like more, I wish she had been more enthusiastic about it like she is when she is helping people do the labs.
Josie should run all of the labs. She is amazing.

I feel that the course could be improved by giving us some of the answers to a few of the questions to the homework we just turned in. That way when we do the next lab we won't make the same mistakes. How do we know if we are getting it and doing it right if we don't find out the results from our homework til a week later.

Thank you for a great class
Kristen Baker was amazing and very helpful. i loved coming to lab and learning. She also gives really sound career advice! great TA! She opened my eyes to what contributions an anthropologist can have to world.
The TA was great minus the lecturing portion, the content of this class is too much, I wish we could have had less variation and focused more on the two themes that surround/makeup the practicles.
Kristen was great!! Always available and willing to help!!
It is easier for students to learn if the lecture of Lab posted on laulima
Josie Yucha was an excellent TA for the class and really promoted understanding of the information and made sure we were truly understanding not only the information but the concepts behind them.

The Great information that was given in every class...
Honestly, it was all valuable to me. The more I learned the more it all made sense, and continues to. All excellent.
lecture
Dr. Bae was very thorough in his lecture presentations
I think I've learned the most from this class during my two years at UH. The course has inspired me to take on a minor in anthropology. I'm very interested in human evolution (evolution in general) and I think I mainly loved this class a lot because it helped me really understand the idea that anthropology actually is, at least to a degree, "the most scientific of the humanities, and the most humanistic of the social sciences". I never really knew what physical anthropology entailed until I took this class. Slideshows, movies, and lecture content were all great. Nothing there could really be improved further.
I'm an anthropology major, so everything that was presented in the lectures had some relevance to my field. Furthermore, all of the information I was given was very interesting and presented well, so I think that in itself makes it valuable.
The test gave a wide variety of opportunities to succeed
I learned a lot of different concepts of physical anthropology.
The subject itself is very interesting and the power-points weren't the typical boring lectures.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing
There was nothing that was of no value. It was all pertinent, relative and interconnected. Immature whiny inattentive students were the worst part.
-- snipped --
I would've liked more detail in the slides, because I felt that they were too simplistic at times for some of the more complex concepts.
The instructor overwhelmed us with too much information.
most of what we learned were just memorized facts. i feel that that kind of "learning" is outdated with modern technology and the internet
The way the course is set up isn't the greatest. I feel that I would learn a lot more if I was required to do homework or write papers and do some outside learning rather than just studying for the exams.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Have a online data base available, or at least a small portion of it so that it'd be easier to reflect on the previous class. I know it'd be unfair for those who come to class vs those who don't, but maybe a online system in which you could allow an email to go out to those only who are in attendance of that lecture...
I don't know that he can. It was all very good. Keep it challenging. Sometimes there are questions that we simply don't have enough time to discuss at length. Maybe a short discussion period for interested students.

I think he's already doing a very good job. He's strict, but not too strict. He's precise about what he expects of the students in a comprehensible fashion. He rewards students that put a serious effort in the class regardless of major. Finally, he has a nice personality, which makes paying attention and engaging in his lectures easy and enjoyable.

Rather than having the class be just exams maybe include some homework assignments or readings or papers. Adding something that will get us students learning outside of lecture will make learning the material a lot easier and more enjoyable.

He's generally a friendly, humorous professor who definitely demonstrates much understanding in his field. He's great at explaining all of the concepts and he's very organized. He's good at interacting with the students and getting us to contribute to the lecture. He's supportive and seems to care about his students. I actually really appreciated the quality of his slide show presentations too. He used the perfect amount of text and images together and the white background with black Times New Roman text was great (my pet peeve - professors who suck at making powerpoint slide shows). The movies he showed us every now and then were also very interesting.

I loved this course. Fascinating subject, great job by Dr. Bae. I think his cell phone policy is terrific. Maybe Dr. Bae can more strongly emphasize the requirement for hard work, and that it is not easier than biology, although he made it clear that if you don't come to class, take notes, pay attention and work hard, you will have a lot of difficulty, much less do well.
-- snipped --
I'm not an athro major and took this class out of curiosity. Found it interesting and very informative. I enjoyed the lectures very much. think more regular quizzes or essays would be nice in this course. More chances to refresh your knowledge and boost your grade. With the tough and infrequent tests in the course, it'd be nice. The only low point of the course is the TA.
Dr. Bae challenges students and answers questions with other questions in order to get the students to think about it. he eventually answers the questions, but allows time for the students to learn and discover before he goes into detail.

The vast information that is given throughout the course
i learned the bones in the body
Actually handling the bones and skeletal components of all the species.
Learning how to identify the key features of the bones of humans, early humans, apes, and primates was useful.
Note: ALL these ratings apply to the teacher's assistant, Karen Kadohiro, NOT Christopher Bae who didn't teach the lab. Nice to get to study from real specimens.
Working with actual bones
Nothing.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
nothing really i thought it was a great course!
The labs where we had to watch a movie and then take notes to write up in a lab report
Rating the relative size of features on the scale of 1-8 was not that productive to me. It seemed a little subjective, and could be confusing.
The genetics labs didn't seem to have enough relevance to the purpose of the course.
Note: ALL these ratings apply to the teacher's assistant, Karen Kadohiro, NOT Christopher Bae who didn't teach the lab. Complete lack of assistance from the TA.
Being taught by a TA, couldn't always answer questions asked
Everything. The TA refused to work with the students. She refused to answer questions of the students. She always rushed us to get our work done so she could leave early. This was the worst display of teaching I have ever seen. She did not care about her students at all. It was obvious that she did not want to be there. I tried to talk to the professor and asked him for help on the subject since she refused to help me and he said that it was her class.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
He's doing a Great Job
The TA taught the lab, she seemed dis interested, and didn't explain things very well
I don't know that much can be done to improve the class. without exception most students (in the early lab) left before the end of class. I was most often the last to leave. Karen is soft spoken and sometimes I could not hear her well. But she never failed to help me in any way.
Since the TA taught the lab, I cannot say for sure. However, I do think the professor should be more involved in teaching the lab courses.
Note: ALL these ratings apply to the teacher's assistant, Karen Kadohiro, NOT Christopher Bae who didn't teach the lab. He can get a different TA who wants to be in the lab.
He can improve by becoming more active as a professor and firing his TA.

22. Other comments:
I hated writing labs on videos that we watched, it felt like a waste of time
The one thing that I know would help me (and a few others) would be to have the lab open a couple of days for a few hours before practical exams to review the bones. It can be difficult to study without the actual items. I can lose a lot of data in my brain in a weeks' time, in this type of situation. It would be of substantial benefit to me and a few in my study group, anyway.
I think the TA needs to be more approachable, and needs to be ready to help students since the lab manual was very unhelpful at times. Or, another source of reference needs to be handed out or available in order to complete lab write-ups and study for exams.
Nothing about the TA Karen's demeanor reflected a desire to be in that lab. Her only answer when asked a question: "It's in the book." She read through the lectures hastily, and on the multiple occasions she was asked to slow down/asked a question about the subject matter, she was clearly annoyed. Again, she would reply that "This is all in the book." Even reading instructions for the day's lab seemed to be incredibly boring for her. It was difficult to jot down all the instructions as she went through them as quickly as possible. If asked to repeat herself, she would give the shortest and least helpful answer. Her voice literally trails off as she talks, as if its incredibly inconvenient for her to even complete the sentence properly. I am not suggesting we be spoon-fed by the instructors or the TAs. However, the attitude of the TA was very off-putting and absolutely NOT helpful to my learning or my GPA (which is the sore point for me). She had no desire to help anyone. Not only that, but looked irritated when asked to do so. I didn't feel welcome to ask a question. And even when I did, the answers were barely satisfactory. She should have made much more of an effort, ANY sort of effort, to help us. She did not. She should have done the job she was paid to do.

It made it easier to learn as there was a lot more teacher/student interaction as well as more discussion within the class itself. I also liked the papers and doing oral presentations - I think doing your own outside research for a topic often allows you to learn a lot more than just attending lecture.
Having such a small amount of students in the course
The lectures were always packed with information but supplemented well with powerpoints and pictures. Also, the classroom style where we can interrupt lectures to ask questions while on topic were very much appreciated.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Everything was valuable. It it all incredibly interconnected.
no complaints
Buying the textbook was probably the least valuable aspect of the course because after the second exam I have not read from it because it seems that the entirety of our grade is dependent on lecture.

I don't know that he can. It was all fascinating, and not easy. A lot of work, but a great course.
Have more hands on activities.
I think a little less information in his powerpoints and lecture could help in the absorption of information. At times I felt I was bombarded with facts and figures that weren't necessarily important to understanding broader ideas and concepts.

The videos definitely helped a lot. They were more interesting than most videos shown in anthropology classes and helped to visualize concepts shown in class. The book but, that is okay because Prof. Bae was clear from the begining that we were only responsible for the information discussed in class. He held his word. I appreciate that.
It's unfortunate that the grade is based off of only two tests. It's a very difficult course and maybe people would average higher grades in the class if a portion of the grade was a paper of some sort to demonstrate the knowledge that we have gained in the course.

Don't turn the lights completely off while teaching because it puts students to sleep.
I feel that making some classes have short group discussions in certain areas can help students in focusing on the main points that are usually found on the tests. While Professor Bae may state that some information is important to know, each student may not remember well and having them recall these points over the semester may help ingrain it in their minds.

Everything was explained well, all details regarding the structure and etc.. of the class were straight-forward. Prof. Bae has a great teaching style. His test structures are known from the begining. He explains, the tests come straight from the lectures and to study strategically. Which you can do. Some of his multiple choice questions can be 'zingers' or 'curve balls' but its okay. Prof. Bae is the epitome of keeping students on their toes, while teaching in a friendly, insightful, interactive lecture style.

The owerpoint preentations were excellent. Alwasy plenty of photos, charts maps, etc to help the student visualize the concepts.
hominins were pretty interesting, i wasn't aware of how many early ancestors we had.
Going to the lectures because they were very interesting.
Going to class was mandatory in receiving a good grade overall for understanding the material. Tests were strictly off of the notes gone over in lecture so there was no need to purchase a textbook. This saves money and lots of time for reading as concepts are clearly taught in lecture.
The information which was presented was all extremely valuable and very interesting.
This course covered a broad swath of knowledge pulling in concepts from many fields including biology, geology, history, medicine, genetics, archaeology and botany.
I enjoyed learning about the primate evolution
lecture and lab, and discussions on the subject.
I value the fact that this class challenges my intelligence. I feel as though I always learn something new.
The most valuable was re-learning A LOT of basic things about genetics, anatomy and evolution that I had forgotten or never really understood to my full potential. I was able to better understand important scientific aspects of people and the world, and I was able to make greater connections with other classes and readings, and especially in my Physical Anthro Lab.

all
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None really, except so much information to absorb.
the tests were ridiculous. 300 terms and only 1.5 days to study.
None
Again, coming to class is mandatory for understanding and a good grade overall. If you aren't the type of student that doesn't like to attend class, this course is NOT recommended because you will not be successful.
Not being able to use electronics in the class.
The days right before each exam. He would pass out study guides and ask if there were any questions. But after a pretty short period of time, we were free to go, so those days were not terribly productive.
I hate the time of the class but I don't think there is much that can be done about that.
Everything was extremely valuable. I just wish we spent less time on human anatomy and more time on primates, hominids, or getting deeper into biological anthropology. But that is more of a matter of time.

the final was a week before finals week, and this was really upsetting to me since I'm taking credit overload. The week we had the final, I had numerous papers due for many other classes so I had only 3 hours available to study.
the course is good overall and he pretty much has it set up just right.

With so much important materials gievn on the class, it will be better if we have some handouts or PDF files from power-point used in the class.
I think the way he does things works perfectly. I would not mind if we could access his powerpoints in other places but it does make you attend class, which we should do anyway. :)
No comment. I enjoyed it and it was better than I expected so I cannot comment on improvement because I wasn't expecting to walk out of this course alive. The fact that I am and I learned a lot compared to students before me under different professors must mean that there already has been significant improvement.

AMAZING COURSE! All I heard before taking this course was how hard it was and how bad the teacher was.... Yes it was a different teacher that taught me the material, but it was extremely informative and very very very very interesting.
The lectures were chock-full of information. At first we could not write fast enough to keep up but he slowed the pace during the semester. He did try to encourage discussion, eliciting ideas from as many who were willing to speak up - even partially-formed ideas were treated with humor. For a 200 level course, I gave more time and effort than a three-credit 200 level course gives credit for.
The course was hard and challenging, and you have to work and put effort into it, and the professor sticks to this without altering and I believe it should be this way. The TA was great as a buffer, and though sticking to the same challenging concepts, he helped as much he could and honestly tried to give us as much points as possible.

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Everthing was very valuable.
All
Coming to class is essential in obtaining a good grade since everything that is taught in lecture goes on the test. Purchasing a textbook is not required since all test material comes from the lecture notes. This is time consuming as well as a money saver.
Instructor was very knowledgeable on the course, lectures were often very engaging and interesting.
Dr. Bae made it extremely clear what information was pertinent and insisted that we committed it to memory so that it could be applied to broader concepts concerned with human evolution. By so doing all the students were able to have informed discussions about related topics. He really made sure we had the right tools to intelligently discuss all of the issues raised.
The whole course presented future value, making no specific section more or less valuable than the other.
I enjoyed this class initially because it assumes that evolution of humans is true. I agree with this however, I feel most classes have to walk the line between school and religion whereas this course abolishes the idea of religion as creation from the beginning.
updates on new finds including austrolophiths
Professor Bae provided his students with informative lectures that aided in my learning of the subject matter. Personally I really enjoy this topic, so coming to class each day was a pleasure.
The build upon techniques used
Enjoied and learned alot from watching the videos
during class questions would be asked to us that in a sense were a daily dose of what was to come on the tests. as well as the way the class was structured via 3 major topics in human origins. overall it was these two ways in which the class was most valuable and helpful in my passing with a good grade
lectures well constructed and well presented. use of 3 non cumulative exams was also good.
Professor Bae clearly and thoughtfully presented class material through concise slides and lectures. He was also able to answer impromptu questions in ways that were understandable and relevant to the course material.
I would say that all the aspects of the course were valuable.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
N/A
i can not think of an aspect that was least valuable
Attending class is a must to pass the class and if you don't like to attend class then you will most likely not pass with a good grade. Powerpoints are not posted online for the purpose of attending class which i think is reasonable.
The videos were a little silly, but they still helped put things in context, so there weren't entirely unvaluable.

Not being able to view the power points on your own, like on laulima. It helps to see the material and study from it because sometimes you miss things while you are taking notes.
Though i did not mind the two writing assignments, it seemed that their freedom of topic made it less applicable to the class. if this were a little more narrow i feel i could have been able to apply my paper to what i was learning in a better and stronger way.
text book...it had so much petential as the course is so interesting and while it is comprehensive and full of relevant information it could use some colourful pictures or something to make it more read-able
The textbook.
None were "least valuable," though printouts of the slides would be helpful because sometimes the professor clicks through the slides too quickly.

18. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Put the powerpoints online. Sometimes he went to fast in class and if you miss a slide you never get to see it again.
He is excellent all around
If anything he can post the powerpoints online, but that would defeat the purpose of him wanting students to attend class on a daily basis. He is actually helping the students out in that sense. Electronics are also not allowed, so he goes by an "old school" type of teaching which you write all your notes down with pen and paper. I feel this is good in the way that students don't have a reason to drift off in class and full attention on the professor.
Dr. Bae is an incredibly informative man who NEVER talks down to students or disregards their questions. He presents the material in an interesting and efficient way. Whenever a student presents a question that he isn't sure about he looks it up and consistently returns to the next class with an answer. Plus, he's a really approachable guy.
Improvement is not needed, he teaches the course effectively and challenges the knowledge given to us with tests and essays.
I would like to have slower lectures but, there is an abundance of information to cover. The class is pretty hard too.
less rushing through lecture.I would've enjoyed spending more time on theories or debates within the practice. If we spent more time on essay topics then perhaps less people would fail the first test.
I can't think of anything he can change. He is open to students, and teaches the material in a clear and understandable.
More pictures in the lectures so the students can see what you are talking about as well
Though the power point is great if it varied a little from time to time it might make it seem less repetitive and easier to not essentially "zone" out.
perhaps making some of the examples that are pictures or charts accessible online as while we can write all the information sometimes it is less relevant when the picture is absent, and pictures/fossils/graphs/charts can not be drawn so well (atleast not by me anyway). also real fossil specimens would be cool to show traits and evolution of them.
He could perhaps distribute test-prep handouts slightly earlier, for the sake of my stress-levels and sanity.
I would say that he is an excellent professor and the only thing that could be improved would be to make printouts of the slides available in class because he tends to flip through them faster than some people can write.

really awesome class! alot of information but presented in a way that makes it understandable and easy to learn as does the fact that it is a really interesting subject (this is the part the text book fails to convey)

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
possibly give more time for the final presentations in the class
I think he does a great job as is.
Different text book
I think that Professor Norton is a great teacher. He is friendly and he has found a balance between having students respect and enjoy is class while at the same time challenging them. He seems to enjoy what he does and this in turn interest students. I do how ever feel that the his format for testing could be change in order to better evaluate how much students really learned. For example he often would have matching questions, to match a persons name with his or her book/key concepts. All that is important in studying for this type of question is word association. Actually understanding the concepts or what the book was about it not tested and this is a shame because in the end gaining knowledge of the subject matter is more important than just memorizing associated words. In addition the study guide provided is not really a study guide it is just a list of every possible term that could appear on the test. I think that if Professor Norton gave slight more indication of what to focus more or less on it would push students to examine the content of the course more in depth. This is because when you know what to focus on you can narrow in and truly understand that particular issue, yet if students are given a long list of terms all appearing to hold equal weight they are much more likely to just skim the surface of the the issues and thus miss key points.
Maybe, have a review session with the whole class to clarify anything we didn't understand or weren't sure about... that way we could all hear the questions and help ourselves study. but otherwise nothing, he was a great teacher and i loved this class.
If the class lectures were provided in a PDF accessible to the student, class time can be spent paying attention as opposed to paying attention and scribbling notes that you would hope were legible later.
