13. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
How rigorous it is, and how, much more than any other course I've ever taken, it required a very self-directed approach.
I don't know how to finish this sentence... but this course was fun if that's what it's asking. And Wang is a total goofball.
How I tried so hard to learn what he was teaching and learned a lot. However the fact that we were told to use a software that we had no instruction in was a tragedy. I am getting a very poor grade simply because had multiple technical difficulties with little if any instruction on how to work it. I have been on the Dean's list for some time and can not believe how unfair it was for a teacher to expect his student, especially ones with disabilities, to be able to perform in the way he expected. Many of the students had their own equipment and a vast knowledge of the software we were required to use. So in my opinion this class did little more than hurt my grade point average. We also were required to make teams which helped very little. I helped several classmates with their projects and had no help with mine which probably needed the most. So yes this was the worst instructional course I have attended in my 5 years in the UH system.Especially since it was 4 hrs long, there could have been much more time learning what we were trying to accomplish. I intend to bring this matter to the advisory board for further consideration considering my grade.
The professor.
Professor Wang's accent.
Boss' Lady
The friends I've made and the camaraderie we've developed through our group work.
How stressful it was.. just TRYING to create a good film
The projects I was able to produce this semester and also how much my projects have grown over the semester. I'll also remember Prof. George Wang for his great sense of humor!
14. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
A deeper understanding of how I work with others, what interests me, and what I can and cannot do, in terms of creative endeavors.
I learned what it means to be an ACM major and have a better idea of what I would have been in store for had I continued down this track.
The knowledge that one must know what they are working with in order to achieve what they were supposed to be taught to do. I am a PC person so using an apple based project was extremely difficult and made the class that much more overwhelming.
How to effectively work with others on film sets.
Now I realize I hate making film.
Reassurance in my own skills
The importance of proper scheduling, committing to group efforts, and adapting to new technology
Basic film techniques
I learned the correct pre-production process and also how to work sound equipment. I also learned how to work better with others in a crew.

16. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is very approachable. I had no problem coming to him to talk or ask for help.
He's a nice guy.
Is great personality and ability to keep the students awake for 4 hours. A very wonderful individual, but should seriously give much more instruction in the software that he requires his students to use. Being a PC User I felt at a great disadvantage in this course.
He is always willing to help and you can email him or see him during his office hours about anything.
He was very truthful.
secrets and tips for premire and shortfilmdepot
His experience and knowledge of filmmaking really showed in his lectures
His knowledge
His sense of humor and helpful criticism when we showcased our films. Never had a boring class.
17. I feel that this course challenged me intellectually.

4.3 10 0.67 Freq(%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 1 (10%) 5 (50%) 4 (40%)
18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked how it threw us directly into the process, but I had some problems with that as well, as I note later.
I liked how it wasn't required to buy all the crap we needed to complete this class. That was helpful.
The way that the class was willing to learn if given the opportunity. the personalty of the instructor. Many of the students agreed with me on how hard it was to use the software, and many who were unfamiliar wit it were lucky enough to receive outside help through friends. I however did not.
Basic development on how to make a film.
Going to the media center.
being able to create films
The workshops
Learning about film, audio and editing. Would be better to learn it before your projects though.
I liked being able to do our own narrative at the end of the semester. Time limit made it a bit hard and most people went overtime anyways, but I loved the different types of films we got to produce.
19. Comment on the physical environment of the classroom (space, noise, lighting, seating, etc.)
n/a.
It's an lecture hall that is used by like, 20 other majors. It was nice, I guess.
Was very cold for 4 hours. Morgues and walk in freezers are warmer.
The space was huge! And the air conditioning was really cold.
The air conditioning is ridiculous.
Shitty for movie viewing
It really helped focus on viewing films, but not so conductive for groups to discuss
None
It helps to have a big projector to show films, but it does get pretty chilly in the room.
20. Other comments:
Being exposed to lighting and sound only once is not enough to get a student comfortable with using it on their own; to expect the student to be able to use them proficiently is even more ludicrous. A lot of the problems of this class are caused by its only meeting once a week. Too much information is forced into one session, and no student, of the ones I asked, myself included, could remember it all. Four hours is much too long for a course. To expect a student to be completely engaged throughout it is silly, since most will check out after an hour. All ACM classes are like this, however, and this way of operating, in my opinion, does not make the student's learning a priority. I realize that this course is to be considered a "crash course" in film making, and that to be proficient in lighting, sound, and editing, they each have their own respective course -- but the very light skimming of the surface done in 310 isn't sufficient. It should not be taught once to never be mentioned again. This is not a personal attack on the professor, who I enjoyed and thought was helpful, but just in the course structure, and of ACM itself. There are problems that need to be addressed.
I just feel that this class could have been so much more if more attention was spent on the technical aspects of the class instead of doing skits on what film crews are supposed to say during filming. I just thought that for me it was a total waste of time and actually hurt my academic standing. The time and effort that I put into it makes me very frustrated for the grade that I am about to receive. The instructor also did not put the grade book up until right before the last project so we had no idea what are status in the class was. If I had seen it like it was supposed to be according to the syllabus, I would have definitely tried to make a much more academic effort, if possible, to do better in this class.
Thank you, I'm change my major
more adobe lectures should be given
Thanks a lot!

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Wang is an amazing teacher who cares about his students. He approaches each student with kind-generosity, yet at the same time concern and good critcism for their work. Not only is he sweet, but he's funny, making the class...well, fun. Normally, 4 hours appears to be a drag, but it's the highlight of my week. 4 hours isn't enough. I'm planning to take more of his classes in the near future.
He showed us some examples from previous classes on what we needed to do.
He was approachable and kind.
he is always available for help during office hours, is nice and tries to help students
He is very honest about topics, performance and ideas regarding this subject. Extremely friendly and very approachable.
Guy is an open book. Helpful insights. Fair grader.
his experience in the field
I found it most helpful that his fun personality always made the class enjoyable, and it helped to pass the time so quickly.
He was entertaining and kept our interest in this 3.5 hour class.
He knows what he's teaching and is approchable at the same time.
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I loved the creative flow of the class, especially during lectures and discussions.
I liked working on the class project with everyone and watching short movie examples.
Production.
class production, it was fun and helpful to be able to see how other students go through the process of filming other than your own group
Critiques... very interesting.
Hands on filmmaking. Critiques/screenings were something to look forward to. Laid back atmosphere.
screening films for our peers
I liked how the nature of the course was to encourage us to depend on our classmates for help. It really strengthened bonds, especially in this field where communication is important.
I liked sharing and critiquing each others projects.
Being able to make friends who all know what everyone is going through, therefore willing to help each other out on projects.
11. Other comments:
I wish the class was spread out throughout the week, but then again a crash course of 4 hours also helps.
You are a great professor!
great professor! funny and engaging. learned a lot
My only suggestion to Prof. Wang would be to try and not let the students take over the classroom. Spent way too much time distracted with non-relevant topics when that time could be used to cover more important information.
Thanks for everything!
i wish there were a class in between 255 and 310 where the whole class and the professor could work on a film together before we are expected to make one on our own.

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
His approach is relaxed yet not lazy. I appreciate that.
Understanding and willing to help
He's good at explaining things in a real world way.
He was very knowledgable about the subject, which helped when he was teaching us.
Good professor, knowledgeable
knowledgeable and fair
He's very funny and approachable. He's easy to talk to and is always willing to help.
Very straight forward most of the time.
- The professor answers all questions clearly.
He is so nice and approachable
If we had questions he would gladly demonstrate a way to solve the problem
George knows a lot of information pertaining to sound and it helped students understand what it takes as a sound producer and editor.
His openness and willingness to share his time and knowledge.
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
the recording process
I liked the practicum of working with sound.
I loved the ADR/Foley sessions because it gave me great hands on experience.
project presentations and recording
The "how-to" lectures; the class itself, it's helped me to become more aware of how sound functions within a film.
- The projects are fun, the recording sessions as well.
Learning to create sounds for cinema
The projects that we did were fun
I liked the in class productions. It gave me a chance to see how everything worked and that sounds were created outside of the set and then placed in with the final mix.
Lectures.
11. Other comments:
I wish we could have more hands on lab to understand technique. If we had a lab of computers where we would follow along, many of us would understand sound editing techniques better.
I didn't feel like I really got a sense of how to do good audio design, the lectures were long and sometimes confusing. I think that students should have access to professional equipment for mixing etc. and should go more in depth on how to design good sound
I feel that this course would be more effective if we had a lab type class where the class works on the same project in class at the same time where the instructor would give us step by step instructions on how to perform each task instead of listening and going home with whatever information we retained
George is one of the best instructors ACM has to offer.

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Very resourceful and knowledgeable, he's very reliable for solid answers and advice.
His accepting, friendly manner. It makes you more willing to open yourself up to him, without the feeling of being totally bashed on.
He was very approachable and knew a lot about film. He also helped me to see my potential as a film maker. He told me what was bad and what was good, rather than sugar coating my mistakes. He also was very honest and reliable and understanding.
George is the best teacher I have had in the ACM program
great teacher
Very understanding as an instructor
He really knows his stuff. I learned a great deal throughout the semester, and hopefully it reflected in my projects.
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Complete hands-on experience.
Going over everyone's movies. Seeing everyone elses creative ideas
I liked the opportunity to make films. I'm new to film, but I can see the difference in my work between my first and third film. I also liked doing three different projects and aspects. I think it could have been slower, starting out fresh and not knowing what to do but overall valuable fun course.
George gave really good feedback on projects and I felt comfortable opening up and asking for help when needed.
I liked the guest speakers.
Screening days. It was always interesting to see what my classmates had created as well as how they critiqued my own projects.
11. Other comments:
1. Have due dates be the same for both A/B and C/D. They always got a week longer than the first A/B section. I felt good getting my project done before them, but sometimes I wished I had more time. Having them turn in their DVDs on the same day and screening them the next class. 2. More hands on learning; Even though we got to play in the studio with the lights and cameras, I felt like I still don't fully understand anything I learned there. Anne took us into the studio one day and basically told us "you have 30 minutes to set up lights. go" and we had no idea what we were doing and she didnt assist us. 30 minutes later we were packing up with no knowledge of what we had just done. 3. Testing of the cameras. I know everything is quick, but having us all learn the camera and being forced to take the test one week later when we LITERALLY just barely touched it was a little unfair. Most students failed the first test because they didn't get to hold the camera during a certain part or didn't catch something Gregg said. He was harsh on the students, and I understand it is expensive stuff but some of us have never held a camera and need extra help but cant make it into an open house due to work or other classes. 4. Gregg was a little arrogant. I understand he is in charge of the cameras and equipment but we are new, inexperienced, and fresh to all of it. He needs to slow down and understand when we need help. 5. Lectures are too long. 4 hours sitting in class sometimes without a break in between was an overload.
George deserves a pay raise
Would be better if the students had a lab to work in when editing video, less stress on students and gives the ability to use class time to work on projects and we can also ask questions when we need help on something and also throw out ideas to other teammates when editing. With group work, it would of been nice to have to only do a single project as a group rather than individual projects. It was tough to get help but if it's their project too, students will make time to be there and help. If they don't come then the team leader can note that to the Instructor.
wish they had the guest speakers before assigning a screen write or another assignment.
To me, the class was a bit long. I understand that it has to be, since we meet only once a week, but 4 hours right around dinnertime left me hungry and restless more often than not. I felt the "quiz" as it was called was weighed very heavily, perhaps a little too much so. Not to mention some of the questions, having been written by students, were worded very confusingly. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this class.

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
His wide array of knowledge and skills and his disposition.
George's positive attitude made it a delight to attend class.
Going through the steps with the tools in Final Cut Pro.
All of his knowledge about editing.
The discussions on theory were the most useful.
A smart editor
He used humor to convey his points.
He would find times to help you out when you have time
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Learning the technical aspects of working with software.
The visual aids: online PDF on transcoding and actually watching him show the different tools in the different programs.
I enjoyed the projects as well as the lectures. It was all around the best class.
Anytime we watched something from "The Cutting Edge" we were pretty much in good hands.
Hands on projects
Cooperative and kind teacher, excellent class.
how creative you can get with your assignment
11. Other comments:
One of the best instructors in ACM.
It would be nice to have a longer class period of Adobe Affects and Photoshop. Maybe have the lesson for two class periods instead of just one day.
There really should be two editing courses. One on pure theory and the other on the technical side of managing the tools. As is, by having to learn both at once I feel like we miss out a bit.
Anne is great
I wish it was more in a lab so it could be a little more hands on with the editing programs

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is positive and helpful. He is generous with his time.
He is very direct and tells you stuff straight up. He doesn't force his ways of doing stuff on you, but he does give suggestions that helped me a lot. He is a really nice guy - he isn't intimidating even though he knows a lot and has a lot of experience, I wasn't afraid to ask "dumb" questions. He is really funny too.
He made class fun and created a great learning environment.
He really goes and digs down deep to the source to help you understand the material or if you have a problem, he will do the best that he can possibly do to help solve it. I like how he mediated and encouraged communication between our class as beginners and introducing us to upperclassmen in the major and faculty who are of assistance.
He is a nice guy who is easy to talk to and ask questions
Very funny and insightful. He made the class enjoyable. He was also critical when he needed to be. This really challenged me to do better (I seriously could hear his voice in my head during my shoot).
I think George is both optimistic and realistic. He tells you your movies are good, but at the same time tells you they are terrible. So I found that this method was more of a personal challenge to me, and caused me to really show George what I could do with my final project.
His resourcefulness in regards to troubleshooting audio and editing problems was invaluable. Also a great and relatable teacher and I'm sure that anyone who has taken him has had lots of fun and has grown as a filmmaker and a person!
He is a great instructor! Keeps the class environment very enjoyable, yet we always learn and do a lot of stuff in class. He has great constructive criticism about the work you produce, therefore always allowing room for improvement.
Whenever I had questions and I e-mailed them to him, he would answer them and helped me out big time.
had a use full website, and always tried to help answer the classes difficult questions.
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Hands on training exercises.
I liked how everyone in the class had fun together. When we were broken up into groups of 3 people, I was kind of pissed, like, how can a group of 3 people make a film? But it turned out to be good because this forced people to interact with other groups - eventually there were no boundaries and everyone was helping everyone regardless of which group they were in. Because of this, I think our class grew a lot closer than previous production classes.
I really liked the hands-on apects and that we actually made films instead of just talked about making films like some classes
I liked how a lot of the activities done in the class were hands on.
I liked how George brought the class together as one.
I liked the camaraderie that was developed in our class
I like the fact that we are taught the basics of using a camera, lights, sound, but ultimately it's on us to learn how to master them. So I like the independence that we're allowed, while it is a double edged sword in that we aren't given more feedback as to how to do certain things; I think ultimately it allows us to grow closer as a class and shows us who we'd like to work with in the future.
The hands on classes were among the most helpful. Being able to touch, see, and visualize with the equipment alongside us is infinitely more valuable than charts and graphs.
The bond I formed with fellow classmates through helping out on each other's production sets and editing and such was a wonderful experience, since this industry is all about the people you know.
Working on our movie which had something to do with assignment 3 and making new friends.
being free to film what we wanted.
11. Other comments:
He is a proffesional instructor that all students can benefit from.
Really great class!
I don't think that all the paperwork on the student project completion list is necessary for ACM 310 students.
I would have liked to have had a little bit more structure in the beginning of the semester regarding scheduling a shoot (how to break down a script not only for shots, but for scheduling as well) and plan an actual feasible schedule.
This class challenged me because it taught me things about the movie industry that I did not know. A lot of the information taught by Professor Wang was new to me. I enjoyed watching my classmates' projects which were profiles and movies. Maybe this class will help me not only with other ACM classes, but for the future in the movie/music video industry as well.
i think a balance of lecture and more hands on with the teacher would have helped alot, there's one class a week, 4 hours i think there should have bin more hands on activity's through out the semester instead of just throwing us out into the field after one day of a quick basic lecture and class project.

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
George is extremely nice, and is always willing to help-- inside or outside of class. He is extremely quick to respond via email, and he is always trying to give feedback and help if you have problems. He is understanding when issues arise, and gives honest feedback in class to help with the growth of the students. George is extremely knowledgeable in the field, so he gives a lot of professional tips about organization and workflow.
He is flexible and helpful for students.
Leads by demonstration. Very knowledgeable in this field.
His honesty and corrective criticism. Sometimes there were communication issues that would cause the class to drag on too long, but overall, if I can understand where he's coming from, I learn something valuable from the course.
George is extremely knowledgeable in his field. Video editing is very technical and can be tough to learn, but George is able to keep our spirits up with his great sense of humor.
He is knowledgeable and helpful
he goes over thing multiple times, so we are able to understand it more
Hes awesome.
His happy go lucky attitude. He is fun to be around.
George is completely candid and upfront. If something is bad, he just says so (as well as if something is good). He is also very clear about what it takes to be a working professional in his field.
He knows so much about post-sound.
10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed the foley & ADR recording sessions because it was hands on, and different. Learning soundtrack pro was also very helpful, and I definitely learned alot about sound editing through this program.
Sound desgining
Learning skills not theory.
I liked making the foley sounds and being surprised at how layering can make it sound completely different. The production part of foley was the most fun and valuable, mostly because I had never done anything like it before. Learning about equipment has served useful as well.
Recording sounds and adr on site and learning the correct methods for getting the best sound possible on set.
The foley/adr project was very fun and useful in learning how to mix sound
doing the actual adr and foli stuff, and understanding how we can minipulate sound to work for our films
The professor is awesome.
Group folly and ADR work.
The whole course was centered around completely redoing the soudn for a scene from a commercially done movie. We covered all aspects of post-prodution sound in the process, and we got so see the different approaches that people took in their final sound mixes for the movie.
The hands-on foley and ADR work.
Learning soundtrack pro.
11. Other comments:
It would be great if this were taught in a lab. It's hard to take notes on how to edit, and then go home and do it yourself (it's an entirely different thing when you're doing it yourself). Also, I think it would be helpful in class to see more examples (watch films or clips) to see good audio and bad audio, to learn about different techniques that sound professionals use.
I enjoyed the class a lot!
Great course and great teacher.
I hope you had fun in Italy!
George is a great teacher, I hope that I can continue to work with him somehow even after I graduate.
Bye.
I really enjoyed this class!
I would've preffered haveing more deadlins for out submissions for this class. That would've helped me stay on track and make steady progress instead of pushing the projects to the back burning in favor of other more pressing issues. It would also be immensly helpful to have the course taught in a lab where we could actually use the software we are suppossed to learn, instead of just hearing our professor talk about it. Even a room where we couls actually plug in and use our laptops (which we are *required* to buy but NEVER actually have to have for class) would take care of the situation. The lack of the appropriate classroom is a stark reminder of UH's failure to measure up to the standards of higher ranked universities. Fortunately that didn't prevent George from doing an excellent job and and almost make us forget we don't have any appropriate facilities to conduct the class in.
Sometimes goes off on tangents.
Fun class.

phrases and terms
I learned very valuable lessons that I can take with me with my work outside of class.
I've learned to have more control in carrying out my vision for my projects. Thanks to Professor Wang's helpful advice and suggestions.
Learning how to work as a team in video production. I learned that your product/film comes out a lot better when you have a team that is willing to help you in any way.
advancement into ACM program with mucho interest
I feel that this course was the first school course that I have been excited to attend and complete the work. I am so much more confident and happy with my life. I have been exposed to the film community of Hawaii and feel that I am headed in the direction of my dreams.
A chance to really explore my (long dormant) creative side.
that we are entitled to make mistakes and also we must learn from them so that we can progress with our movie making abilities.
I learned a lot from what the teachers asked us to do. I learned how much effort and time it takes to make a decent film and what you need in order to succeed in this profession.
Well I am interested in film production so he has taught me ALOT about pre-production and I've learned a lot more about it editing.

He was respectful towards the students, was easy to approach, and never hesitated to help out with student projects.
His tips and suggestions after each presentation day. I like that he is very particular and pays close attention.
His critiques was very nicely done. It was fair and unbiased.
He knew a lot about Final Cut.
class discussion/reflection of films was very helpful
Chun Han Wang always replied to my emails immediately and with helpful advice. He seems to want the students to succeed in making a film that they can be proud of. He always knows how to help you improve.
His good attitude was helpful in keeping the enthusiasm of the class, despite the long hours.
his sense of humor and his ability to encourage us.
He had really good constructive criticism, he wasn't afraid to tell you what worked and what didn't work and he really helped us to figure out what worked in our films.
He has a lot of office hours and if something happens he will listen to you and he wants you to succeed so he's willing to help and he's flexible if there is an emergency.

the projects
I liked being able to make my own films as a requirement. Because of the strict time schedule I was able to work in a true-to-film environment. We seemed to learn just the right information before we made a film that reflected the teachings.
I enjoyed the opportunities for group collaboration.
that we must be really creative with what we produce.

Although I already had a good knowledge of editing prior to coming into this class, I was able to refine my skills and develop ways to achieving things in a more efficient manner. I also have a more heightened perspective on editing and the job of an editor.
I learned different techniques of editing, but nothing that i wouldnt have been able to look up on google.
The main thing is working against deadlines. I was never great at making deadlines and this class forced me to become a little better at turning stuff in on time.
Seeing other creative students.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is very knowledgeable about Final Cut Pro.
He's funny.
He answers questions very effectively and informatively in detail.
He was very knowledgeable about technical basics such as video/audio formats and what the differences were. Small things like this proved to be extremely important in every edit we did. It was also interesting learning about digital versus film, something I rarely hear about in ACM.
he's helpful and open to questions. he does his best to teach students who are not getting something.
How to make a presentation using DVD studio pro
answered any questions
He is very blunt in his critique of our work yet he is also very tactful. He also has a good sense of humor and makes what would normally be a very boring subject seem more interesting.
Enthusiasm about the topic.
Outgoing and easy to talk to.

19. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Learning how to make editing footage easier by using certain tools in FCP.
Learning how to edit.
Learning how to use the final cut software.
I liked analyzing the theories behind edits (when to cut and pacing), rather than the fcp tutorials. Watching scenes and analyzing why they cut it a certain way was interesting.
the days we had speakers were very interesting, learning from professionals in the field.
I'd say learning about what's possible in editing and seeing other's students work. Marsha Williams presentation in the end was truly inspiring.
re-editing past series.
Immediate feedback on projects and in-class demonstrations.
The ability to work with good footage rather than student level footage.
A lot of hands on, not in-class, but hands on in general. We would learn material then are set forth to try and complete the tasks.

See you next semester.
Great class.
Definitely a good course for those who consider themselves beginners at editing. I was a bit disappointed with other people's critiques, they didn't seem to help me very much... not a lot of insight.
I think it will be better if this was a lab course. Learn by doing because it's easy to watch until you start doing it yourself. If it was a class work, we can help each other. George was a great teacher though.
I had a lot of fun on the projects, especially the first project.
None.
I enjoyed the class in general. i have noticed a significant increase in the quality of my own work.

Very enthusiastic about the class, gets involved in individual projects, easy to talk to and helpful when we come across any problems.

he pushed his students. gave very harsh and strong critiques, and expecting alot from everyone.
The way he was honest about failures and didn't baby us.
Great personality, broke the ice very quickly which made everyone warm up to each other quickly and helped build a base for everyone to communicate with each other. It was easily the best attribute of the class.
George is very friendly and easy to talk to.

Lectures
Production was fun. I like the we have access to equipment
The filming of our actual films.
The format of the class was well planned, although could have moved faster to give more time for the larger projects. The final project definitely needs more time.
I enjoyed everything about the course. I learned something new in every class not just from George but the rest of the students as well. George did a great job of making students work/help each other.

Need more time for the final project! Little more than 1 month is very intense, especially when my group has 4 films instead of 3.
This course needs to be taught in 2 semesters (and I don't mean 310 + 410). There's a difference btwn 'telling' and teaching and 15 weeks is hardly enough time to 'teach' ALL of these elements, sufficiently. PROVIDE A SOLID FOUNDATION if you want these students to KNOW what they're doing on a set. Break it down. Talk about the different jobs on set and who does what instead of barking at students to assume roles they may not fully understand. TEACH lighting, sound, equipment, pre-production, tricks of the trade, trouble-shooting,. TEACH these things! Don't just say 'oh by the way, don't trip the wiring when you plug in the lights'. SHOW us how to avoid doing that - don't just say it and move on! TEACH the students how to fill out Film Office permits (city, state and UH). It would go a long way to 1) easing stress on students & 2) help to build professional relationships btwn both ACM and individual students. It looks better for ACM when students aren't driving film permit staff crazy because they're not sure how to fill out the applications. Spend TIME on all these elements, MAKE the course hands-on based, rather than lecture-based. The guest lectures were interesting, but hardly the course to bring them in. There's just too much BASIC information that has to get across for students to fully appreciate what the guests have to say. While some excellent films can come out of this course, a lot of that is from students who already have great experience in either film, video, photography and even theater. For those who don't, this course just doesn't provide a SOLID enough foundation to make quality films. I realize there are budget issues, etc., but in order to REALLY make this course effective, it really needs to be lengthened into 2 semesters.

he is makes class interesting
His honesty and strong knowledge in the subject.
He shares his point of views and knowledge about things in a very interesting way. A way that a lot of us don't think about and it challenges us, I liked this course.
Professor Wang manages to teach in a fun and entertaining style, and at the same time to be very encouraging to his students.
George is very knowledgeable in this area, and he never hesitates to answer any questions to the best of his ability. Love George!
He presents a tedious subject in a fun and interesting way to keep the students engaged throughout.
Sound is generally overlooked in other classes. After the valuable things George taught us about sound, my films will never sound the same.
He helps us a lot, and makes the content we are learnining entertaining and relates it in ways so we will learn and remember. We learn a lot through hands on learning which works very well.
He is personable and approachable. He wants to help you learn and takes the material seriously. He lets you learn by doing and makes suggestions to help you along the way. He is fun, yet firm. A very good professor!
Always willing to help us.

Everything
The structure of the course and the project curriculum.
The hands on experience of re-creating and creating sound to fit our piece of the footage was very interesting. It shows another side of the film industry that a lot of us take advantage.
Viewing examples of sound design in films, commercials and television programs and then discussing them in class was very helpful and informative. Also, I thought that the assignments were challenging and fulfilling. I particularly enjoyed the discussion of each classmate's projects after screening them.
Learning about Foley work was fun and challenging.
I liked watching and learning from the class. We made similar mistakes and individual mistakes that we all ended up learning from.
I enjoyed making teams and doing different jobs in post-sound.
The hands on experience.
I liked the hands on learning and having the opportunity to collaborate with fellow classmates. I liked having the opportunity to work with quality raw material.

i think a slightly shorter piece at like 3 min might be better for the whole Foley part of the class cause then we can experience it in a less rushed more real way
i had fun!
Class sessions should be held in a recording studio and/or proper screening room with adequate stereo sound system. Obviously, there is budget concerns regarding this issue. But I hope one day that it will come true.
I only wish more time was spent on Soundtrack Pro - it is a very complex program.
A very fun and necessary course.
It would be nice to have more lab time to work on projects with someone to help when needed.

We made our own film! Everyone inthe ACM should get his opportunity. We worked really well as a team. George was a great advisor; he came on set a lot and was even an extra in our film!

Energetic, responds to emails, great guy
That professor Wang was very knowledgeable about the field we were learning and always interacted well during classes and made the class fun and easy to understand!!

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
I liked his approach, very casual and laid back but very demanding. He is very approachable and very free with advice and suggestions for how to do things.
very funny and easy to communicate with
the ability one has to talk to the teacher
Professor George Wang is a interesting fellow. His grading system is very critical however, he makes his think in creative ways.
He was nice, he taught us the lessons in a timely fashion. He was aware of the limitations of editing class as a lecture and adjusted well. Answered questions, thoroughly. Sense of humor. Knowledgeable in subject.
George's easy going manner and great humor made the class fun.
He is willing to help when we as students decide to ask him. Most wait until its too late or never ask him for help but once we do, he always tries to do his best. One thing I find most valuable is that he gives constructive criticism and informs the students about areas where we need to improve and areas where we are exceeding.
Always available to help out and very gracious.

19. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I learned how to edit. I don't know who the person is who decided that 310 should be a prerequisite to 372 instead of the other way around, and I don't know if that person is incompetent, sadistic, unaware about basic educational principles, or all three, but I do know that dirty SOB will burn in muslim hell for 1,000 eternities, and that helps me sleep at night. :-) This was the most "empowering" class I have yet had in the ACM program, because it actually taught me *skills* that I need to make movies, rather than forcing me to make movies without knowing what I was doing.
the projects were very fun and interesting.
a lot of them
The trailer project... There should have been more projects.
Applying the lessons into our work outside of the class.
I enjoyed George's teaching style. I also enjoyed the freedom he gave us to play with the materials. The only drawback was that we didn't have classes in a lab which I think would have helped me immensely. That is the reason why I rated the course good and not excellent.
I liked the class discussion of each project because it gave me good feedback about what to do and influenced me to do better that the other person. I got feedback and also ideas about editing thanks to the other students and the instructor.
I enjoyed the projects!

13. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Group Presentations at the end of the course.
The presentations at the end by students were a nice touch. We also got to meet some interesting filmmakers who I had not previously met. It was really fun and interesting all semester long.
Conversational environment
I enjoyed hearing the opinions of industry professionals
Studying the diversity of different film genres, meeting acclaimed film makers, and George Wang's enthusiasm for the course.
Instructor's knowledge and course material and the guest speakers.
I really enjoyed the guest speakers and the in-class movie viewings. The presentations we are having at the end of the course are also very interesting because I am learning and finding out a whole bunch of new stuff that I never knew before.
The guest presenters were great and the final presentations were very informative.
It's always interested to watch films and then be able to directly communicate with the director of the film. I did notice animation and games were largely overlooked in this class though.
Watching and learning about films I hadn't previously seen or really heard about. Also professor Wang is amazing. :)
Having multiple guest speakers and seeing their different films.
Having guest speakers and watching films.
Gay cinema was interesting. I did not realize it was so present in early Hollywood. It was eye-opening to say the least.
Student presentations... especially the ones on video games. I also liked the Professor's Martial Arts presentation. Every movie we watched was great. The guest speakers were all fascinating. Gay Cinema was wonderfully artsy. I liked meeting the Shanghai students and watching Keahi translate Mandarin. Professor Wang needs to play more violent video games.
