13. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Learning about the different frames of leadership helped me see what strengths and weaknesses I have as a leader. I am also able to see how those frames apply outside of the classroom.
That notes were made available online after it was discussed.
I enjoyed the Bolman & Deal text. The powerpoints outlining main points were helfpul. I also believe talking about current issues in relation to management/leadership were interesting and engaging. For example, analyzing M.R.C. Greenwood leadership skills brought current issues to the forefront of the course.
I found the readings, text, and class discussions most helpful in this course.
The powerpoints and the use of Laulima was very helpful. Having active learning in the classroom helps. Small discussion groups with peers and peer review helps each other actively participate as well as having the practice of editing papers. Using certain examples of current situations such as M.R.C. Greenwood and the budget crisis were good to use in leadership skills based on decision making. The shadowing of a higher education leader opens people's eyes to other positions in higher education because many different positions uses different leadership frames. Having drafts for our leadership paper was very helpful in addition with the one-to-one meeting with the instructor.
I found the combination of the readings, class discussions and exercises helped enhance my understanding of the main concepts of the field. I particularly enjoyed when we did work in small groups because I found it easier for me to participate in the discussions. I also really valued the power point slides for each lecture/discussion being made available on Laulima. Having those slides made it easier to follow along with the lecture and discussion.
The leadership paper. It helped me self reflect about my own leadership skills. What skills apply to the readings and what skills I need to improve on.
I enjoyed learning about the different leadership frames. I learned how I could use those frame to make my leadership skills better.
14. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
N/A
I felt doing a job shadowing was not so much needed. It was good see and explore other positions in a higher ed setting but should be an optional assignment. It required taking time off of work for those students who already hold a full time position at a higher ed setting. Also, too much work was due at the end of the semester. For a graduate level course, having a final paper, presentation, and exam is a lot for one course. For most classes, a final paper is sufficient. There should be more creative class assignments. Reading outloud what we should have already read during the week is not graduate level work and something usually elementary or middle school students do. The class discussions were helpful in relating course work to real life situations but I feel students should play more of an active role in the discussions instead of a lecture style of learning.
I felt it difficult to be in class for that long a period of time but the instructor filled the time with valuable and meaningful activities.
I think the textbook could be one that focuses on higher education. I believe I searched on Amazon.com before and saw different textbooks of Leadership in Higher Education. The book we are using does help with the frames, but the book does not use a lot of examples of higher education leadership since the book is focused on business realms. I do not know if another assignment could be created to help students. I would suggest an outside reading such as Greenleaf's servant leadership book or any other novels that students can read to add to their leadership paper or response paper if other readings were included.

8. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I enjoyed the open discussion I had with my classmates about current curriculum issues. I also enjoyed the presentations that each of us had to do and facilitate a discussion in class.
The ability to apply what I learned directly to my job.
college organization, creating an academic plan, curriculum, effective and ineffective teaching, critical pedagogy, etc
I think that one of the most valuable aspects of the course were the presentations that we each took turns doing. I think it's a good skill to be able to give presentations, but more importantly, I think that you gain a better understanding of the content when you have to present it to peers. I really enjoyed listening to each of the presentations. I also found lecture power point slides from Laulima to be very helpful with each class to follow along.
Introduction to some of the issues dealing with disadvantaged students and community colleges. Also, the teacher's passion about issues was valuable.
I found reflection essays to be most helpful especially in retaining information read in for assignments.
Good choice of readings. Good textbook choice. Excellent ability to engage the entire class in the discussion.
9. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
I did not find the course book very helpful. It was difficult to read and made the material a lot more boring compared to the articles in the reader.
The presentations by the other students, on materials that we have already read.
I felt that some of the presentations were least helpful partly because I read the material and presentations were just a quick overview of them. However, they were still interesting to have.
Can't think of anything. Course was well done.

11. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I enjoy the diverse selections of articles from the reader more than the textbook itself. I also learned more, in my opinion, from my classmates and select articles than from the text.
Although the students may disagree, writing more journal reflections as a way to think through the topics studied is a valuable tool. I would support more journal writing.
More element focused hands-on assignments.
I felt that this course was a difficult one to teach and that the instructor did an excellent job with what was given. I felt that the instructor did a great job teaching this course. There was lots of class participation and excellent questions asked that sparked discussion.
Perhaps a broader range of topics in the readings and their impact on changing curriculum in higher education.

20. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed working on my presentation and the class discussions were great.
Class discussions.
the articles in the reader
I enjoyed when we did small group work and had small group discussions and then regrouped as a class. I think it allows for everyone to participate in discussion while getting a chance to hear what everyone thinks.
I enjoyed the use of time permitted. The instructor used the time wisely and I felt that I learned something valuable in each class period.
Readings Journaling Student presentations
21. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The textbook.
very cold room! hard to concentrate. Also, I think that the most difficult part of this class was what appeared to be a lack of commitment from some of the other students. This had nothing to do with the instructor or the course itself. It was disappointing to see how many of my fellow students failed to meet key deadlines and did not do the readings. One student spent a good deal of time on a laptop computer playing games...very sad, and contributed to my loss of enthusiasm about the class towards the end.
the final exam
Some concepts and parts of the text for me to grasp and therefore some class discussions did not interest me as much as others. However, overall an excellent class.
