13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He had powerpoints that were accesible to students on laulima for studying purposes. He knew what he was teaching.
Mr. Markowitz has a very good understanding of his subject and does a good job in getting the lessons across to his students.
He explains everything more in depth
N/A
Even though my particular class lacked very much energy, he still kept a cheerful mood throughout the lesson and made it a point to encourage students to share their thoughts.
He is very knowledge able in the subject area.
He knows what he is talking about and very informative
None that i know of.
He cares when people show up and/or don't show up. He grades tests and homework fairly, even if it takes a week for tests and homework assignments to be graded.
N/A
His strength really were the students participation. The more the students participated the more the class got interesting especially since this psyhcology.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
REquire your students to come to class. It felt as though no one really cared because half the class was almost always missing.
none
He had more time for questions
Give more homework and try giving projects.
N/A
To be on top of his class. Try to be more organized. Very hard to follow...
Have a test format outline
Come to class on time. Prepare for class pryer to coming to class. Be more clear on work assignments. Be more clear on what we should be studying for exams.
Howard Markowitz should prepare more for class and be more direct about the point he is trying to make, both in class and in homework assignments. He should also be more direct in the way he phrases his questions on tests.
Not to use the powerpoint slides straight from the textbook. Make a lesson plan or some sort of structure for the class.
Open the windows or lower the air conditoner.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
We could stay after class and when questions were debatable on exams was willing to give students the points.
Mr Markowitz took his time in the lessons that were giving students a hard time. He made sure we understood the materials through discussion.
He didnt really show any concern. He would only give his lecture and we left right after.
N/A
When the class was over, he didn simply pack up and leave. He stayed and talked with students who asked for help or simply wanted to have a casual conversation. He always asked if anyone had any questions or comments and allowed students to thoroughly explain themselves and any point they may have had.
allow them to make up if the student had a good reason for missing an exam
He didn't.
He noticed when people didn't show up for class.
By showing up
He asks the students how did the assignments go and if there were any problems. He also made sure that he was reachable upon request.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yeah he was a welcoming personality and taught a lot regardless of whether the class was present or not.
Yes, psychology is a difficult subject and rather than overwhelming us with alot of material, Mr Markowitz talked us through it and made sure we understood. Also the homework assignments he came up with were a major help in understanding the material.
I would say no because his lectures don't stay on the particular subject at times.
No, because the information he goes over is kind of hard to understand and does not help on the exams.
I would recommend this professor because of the friendly classroom environment and attitude he projects toward his students.
Yes I would, it can really help in real life situations
Never. He never new what he was teaching. He always taut off of the slides and didn't know his own material.
I would if you are good at deciphering what point he is trying to make. Otherwise it can be a little frustrating but over all it was not bad.
No. Needs to be more creative in his teaching style and make his own powerpoints if he wants to use them to teach.
Yes, because he grades absolutely fair and he makes the class interesting and let's the students have a voice to say on how the assignments were.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Mr Markowitz made a difficult class enjoyable and easy to understand.
N/A
He tends to branch off into many different subgroups of a topic, but covers them well.
He always attend class even if he is running behind schedule
He is the worst teacher i have ever met so far in my collage experience. He come to class late groggy and never knowing what he is going to teach that day.
N/A
Very funny professor and keeps things interesting.

I have learned a lot from his psycology class
He would say uh or umm almost 20 times every 5 min. I had trouble listening to him because of this. There was almost no point in attending his class because of how poorly he would teach.
Seriously needs to manage his class a lot better.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Knew his material and was a cool cat. :) I enjoyed sharing my opinions and experiences in class this lead to a very interesting class that helped me learn quite a bit once we got out of chapter 1. LOL.
He enjoys people, he enjoys teaching, and he enjoys his subject. Since psychology can cover some topics which can be inflammatory his amicable nature made the atmosphere more one of discussion and debate rather than a battle royale. He often tried to incorporate various forms of media to supplement the topics covered. He greatly enjoyed hearing our insights into the topic and allowed us to come up with our own ideas based on the material. I was even amazed at some of the ideas that I came up with but like we learned in class the right type of scaffolding can help people achieve things they could not of on their own. He's an outstanding teacher.
knowledge of the material and relating it to real life. He created a classroom environment where students were able to express personal experiences with the course material, which is psy development.
He demonstrates depth of knowledge in the subject matter.
Experienced in the field.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I loved the Laisse Faire sort of teaching approach but think if it is going to be taught in this manner the syllabus needs to be tweaked a little more.
I would get bogged down with exams in other classes and even though I knew the research paper was due at the end of the semester between school and work I had a hard time keeping on task. Perhaps, make the abstract due at one point, or a very informal bibliography with explanations of why you are using each source. Then maybe a rough draft. I know we're all adults and should be doing this on our own but honestly his class is so fun and you're so engaged with learning that you forget about the essay.
A bit flakey and disorganized. Seems lost as to what is going on in the class.
Class time could have been used more effectively. We were way behind in material, and didn't have a chance to cover all the sections. Be more aware of deadlines and exam dates. When the professor doesn't know the dates himself, it confuses the students and displays irresponsibility.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Asked about us and sometimes would talk with us after class.
He didn't mind staying after to discuss a topic, he corresponded by e-mail. He would point out students and specifically ask their opinions when other students were dominating the discussion. And he asked if anyone had first hand experience relevant to the material that they felt comfortable sharing.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes great teacher.
Of course. This class felt like a break from my science heavy courses and not because it was easy but because it was so much fun. We learned from him, from the book, from each other, from media. This is how psychology should be taught.
Yes, he is pleasant and very intelligent on the subject matter. He is also caring for his students and has their best interest at hand.
No, because the class is extremely disorganized. Syllabi weren't available on the first day of class, homework assignments were posted late and students weren't notified that they were available until the due date passed, professor was unaware of due dates, came to class unprepared, and lectured material that was covered in previous classes (with the same powerpoint slides). In addition, tests were based on the textbook, but the lectures were based off of Dr. Markowitz's personal slides, and seemed to have no correspondence to the timing and flow of the textbook. Therefore, students could only fare well if the textbook was read thoroughly, and attending class didn't aid in my understanding of the material. I don't think we even covered the entire textbook in the semester.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Great guy and proffessional too!
I contemplated switching majors or maybe going back for something in psychology. If not for the reality that I would rather bandage someone up, than try and heal the complex and difficult problems that people face psychologically, I probably would switch just because learning about psychology is so much fun. Maybe I can somehow find a way to help with patient studies that deal with psychology. See! this is why he's so good, leaves you wanting more psychology!
