I learned so many more things about the Philippine National Hero than just that he is a hero and all the good he did. Prof. Arboleda helped us see the other side of Rizal and the different perspectives people have of him. This course was very engaging and encourages the students to participate and speaks their mind. This course helped us make our own perspective of the hero and learn more about the culture as well.

One of the most fortunate things this time around is being the first class to have the experience of viewing the 'Noli' TV series from beginning to end, which would not have been possible without her. That is probably the most helpful and significant breakthrough in aiding with student learning this course has ever had. With both the instructor and the environment she fosters in the classroom, there is never a dull moment in the class for any student.

Dr. Arboleda is an excellent professor who is very knowledgeable about what she teaches, very reasonable, and has a very good sense of humor.

Dr. Pia is very helpful. She lets us share our thoughts freely and that made me comfortable with her and my classmates in class.

Very enthusiastic and inspires students to be successful

I am really pleased that I was given the chance to take this course. I learned something new everyday and tita Pia is such a great professor. I will definitely recommend this class to others. I'm really happy with this course even if its a little bit challenging.

The course is too easy for native speakers and hard probably for non-native speakers. Well, what to expect with a 400 level course? The course is a good elective: easy way to a good grade. Maybe the professor should be a little more stringent with class behavior, etc. Some students take too much advantage of her kindness.

Brilliant, smart and fun teacher! One of my favorite professor in UHM.

The class was intense but fun and interesting. The instructor's teaching technique makes learning the language and culture a lot easier. Definitely will recommend her class to other students.

Class is indeed difficult but with her encouraging words every class time makes up for it. Always ready to tackle the business & always making her students laugh. Dr. ArboledaÊ»s personality is contagious & lightens up every room.

I would've liked to know what my grade was during the semester, or maybe a progress report. Overall, the instructor was great and I grasped the art of translating.

I have nothing but good things to say about this teacher. Although there are really bad teachers here at this institution, she makes me forget I've gone through those teachers.

Dr. Pia Arboleda broke down the complexities of Indo Pacific Language and Culture to her students. I feel that because of her teachings I am better suited to analyze cultures other than my own. I am indebted to all of her hard work during the semester. Dr. Arboleda puts her students first and makes certain that each student leaves the class with a greater understanding of the Indo Pacific Culture of past and present. It was an honor to have her as my professor. I will miss this class and her instruction. But I will retain the lessons and knowledge that she has so graciously passed on. Thank you Dr. Arboleda.

One of the only few teachers that smile. She lights up my gloomy week. Scratch that, her classes made my semester, worthwhile. Little things like this gives me hope in humanity, especially with all the 200+ people lectures, unending labs, rude people & just plain bad lucks throughout my academic career, she was one of the only few that smile on the daily. Tita Pia was a very good professor. she is very helpful and shes knowledgable in the material she teaches.

Instructor was very knowledgeable and passionate about the course. She was always available for consultation. Excellent, overall.

Pia was always replied to e mails and was available for help. She explains the topic well and makes class interesting.

This has been one of my favorite classes thus far. Before taking this class, I honestly had no knowledge about the history of the country me and my ancestors came from. I've gained so much knowledge about the subject material and understand more about my culture and how it came to be today, and how/why it's changed so much over the course of its history.

Rare you find teachers like this and even more rare at this school but nonetheless, she is in the class that separates the elite from the average.

Tita Pia is one of the nicest professors i know in UH. She's very funny as well.

Dr. Pia Arboleda is the best professor at UH. She has so much knowledge to share and teach to students. She is a true asset to the UH system. I am taking any classes she teaches and will recommend her to my fellow UH students. What a great class and greater professor.

Pia was always available for help. she explains things well and always replies to emails. she made the class interesting and fun. she cares for her students.

Teacher is very dedicated and has fun in class.

I learned a whole lot about Jose Rizal than I thought I would know in my life. He is a very interesting person and his works revealed a lot about 19th century Philippines and the world. This was a very interesting class!

This instructor inspired me to continue my studies in the culture. She is by far the most knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive instructor I've had during my entire college career. As an aspiring education myself, I will be sure to take with me a lot of her teaching styles.

Best Professor I've had so far at UH! I will recommend other students to enroll into her classes to be enlightened and challenged in their academic stay.

I suggest a change of final project. A group work is a great hassle especially when meeting outside class hours. Individual final project is better because it makes everybody really work.

This instructor is by far the most organized, knowledgeable, and caring instructor I have ever had the privilege of having. She always made herself available to her students. Whether in person or through email she was always open, inviting, and encouraging. She always made me feel comfortable enough to speak up in class and to ask her questions. Whenever we I needed help she did whatever she could to provide me the help. This instructor also has such a good sense of humor that made the everyone feel more comfortable. She exposed us the the Filipino culture in different ways and encouraged us to explore aspects of it that we personally found interesting. It was a pleasure having this instructor this semester. I would greatly appreciate it if she taught more Indo-Pacific classes.

She is a very down to earth person- very funny, approachable, knowledgeable, and all the good qualities you find in the dictionary. She is a very good and hard working professor. I would definitely recommend this class and her to my friends.

Professor Pia is an energetic and knowledgeable person! I can tell that she knows a lot about our [Filipino] Culture because she got her degrees there. Everything was relavent and helpful. I enjoyed the readings and her powerpoint presentations.

I liked being able to learn material that members of our ethnicities will never come across. I also liked being able to learn more about my culture in an educational and entertaining way.

Professor Pia is a fantastic instructor who cares very much for her students. She communicates the ethics of the classroom's content effectively and does so in a fair, efficient manner. She constantly engages her students both in and out of class, and I would hope to have her again.

Watching the movies and responding to them in our papers. And, of course, participating in the club events.

I enjoyed the variety of films that we watched. Tita Pia was very informative, giving us not only background information about the director, but also the social situations that were happening during the time the movie was filmed.

The movies that were shown in class were appropriate and relevant to the theme and to the overall objectives of the course.

22. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

Having the class once a week for the required amount of hours was pretty tiresome. I would probably have preferred having it twice a week, half the time per day.

This course meets the requirement of a writing intensive course but does not give the WI credit. I took the class concurrent with two other writing intensive classes, might I say, I did the work of three writing intensive upper division courses but will be awarded only two WIs. NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT

I didn't like how we had to write a lot when it isn't even a writing intensive class. Also, having to write a paper and do a presentation on the same topic. We could have just done one because it's the same information.
