13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is patient, kind, open, and friendly. She is an expert when it comes to piano, and gives students great pointers on how to improve.
She uses the piano to teach us to play scales, pieces and chords. She also provides us time to practice during class for quizzes and recitals.
She really knows her stuff.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
n/a
No changes needed.
None
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always has to know the reason of why students are absent. And when they are, she tells them what they missed the day they weren't there. She is also always available through email and responds very timely.
She reminds students to practice the pieces assigned for quizzes and to turn in free writes.
She meets with us outside of class for extra help and is always available.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, definitely! She is the greatest teacher I have come across at KCC!
I would recommend students to take her class because the coursework is easy to follow as long as students practice at least everyday.
Yes, she's the best. I've recommended her to a lot of students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
n/a
I really enjoyed her class. I hope to continue practicing Piano after the semester is finished.
She's very sweet and caring. :)

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
the methods that she teach the students very good
really knew the course topic
She knows subject matte very well.
Really know about the subject, and encourage students.
Her strengths are her knowledge of he subject are and you know what to expect from the class. There are no hidden agendas or surprises. She is organized and prepared.
She is determined to let her students learn something (and to pass). She really knows her area. I skipped a few classes and when I returned to class, she forced me to call one of her student helpers at the beginning of the class so I could catch up with old lessons. I learned a lot! For reals!
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
no need to change
have an only monday class
Don't show off. Don't make students memorize peices in beginning piano class. The level of subject matter was too hard, and the expectations too great. Many students dropped out.
Everything seems very good already.
I think for the beginner level courses that there should be more patience witht the students who are slower paced in learning.
Nothing! I just think that her students needed to be a bit more sociable. I could tell really that McSwain tried to form a relationship with the class because she would come in with a warm welcome.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
the way she approaches to every individual in the class
always reminding the students to ask for help
By asking.
I think she was more accessible during class time than outside of class. I think she showed concern during class time by coming to each of us and checking on our progress and helping us with problems we may have.
Yeah, she made me the "star of the class" and forced me to call one of the student helpers during class. She also checked if I did set up a meeting by asking the student helper. She was really on it! Oh and she kept on informing those who needed help to call the student helpers.. she also set up dates to get one-on-one advice/help.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, because I can play piano in just a short time
yes, great teacher
No. She was insensitive to te feeling os beginning students. There were advanced students in the class, who were intimidating to beginners.
Yes, I would recommend her. She really knows her stuff.
Yes, she is very nice teacher!
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is the best music teacher
thanks for everything
great job
Be more compassionate. Try to remember what a difficult instrument the piano is and how hard it is to learn. Also, beginning students may be better off just playing simple pieces. If they decide to commit to Piano 2, then indroduce scales and arpeggios.
She is a very good teacher
She's cool. Her accent is cool too.

Because of construction on campus it is really difficult to get a hold of teachers especially for office hours. So, our only option is email...and that doesn't work out too well if you don't get a response right away. I think it's important to have construction done before the semester starts. I notice that some teachers do not just use email or laulima which is unfortunate so their office is needed.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is very skilled at what she teaches.
Mrs. McSwain's major strengths as a teacher were always encouraging and helping her students. She always made she we understood what we were doing and went over the lessons. She also works with us individually for our recitals.
sheʻs awesome. she knows what sheʻs doing and she knows lots of little tips and tricks to students
She is very patient.
Her love for her student's. She does not profile or put other students on a pedestal. Everyone is treated so well. She'll go to great lengths so that no student is left behind
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Need a better assignment schedule for the syllabus. It's a bit confusing for students to understand the xls document.
None.

none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She expressed her concern for them verbally in front of the entire class.
She would work with us one and one, ask us if we understood the lesson, and go over it again if we did not.
she talks to us and gets a feeling (:
She seems to be happy as long as students attempt to try.
emails, asking students to call their friend in the beginning of class and basically say "hey what's up are you coming to class today?" Recognizing individuals problems and helping address them
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, to students who have previous piano training. But I would not suggest them to beginners because her expectations are a bit too high.
Yes, I would because she is an excellent painist and teacher! You will definitely learn and improve yourself in a semester with her.
yes. sheʻs probably the best teacher
Absolutely, I recommend because when you need her, she will be there and she will go through entire piece with you with patience. You need help? Ask. She will be there.
YES a great piano teacher with such a loving heart.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
she is a really good teacher who is always making sure that we are learning something and getting something out of the course. She always comes around to check up on how we are doing and reall does teach the material well.
Her sense of humor.
she describes the teaching information very well
shes a great performer and knows how to help students struggling with piano.
she gives a european education which could be hard for a community college
She is a very competent and well trained Piano player.
Knowing her skill on how to teach another!
She is a very accomplished pianist/musician, and it is evident in her teachings. She pushed students to pay attention (which was good), and her classes were always filled with challenges and new concepts.
she has a lot of year of experience with the piano
As a instructor she was great. She was fair and understanding. I am grateful i was able to take her class. it was amazing the way she played the instrument. She knows her stuff!
able to always help you.
She is one of the best the only piano instructor I have had recently. She is very talented on the piano and I could tell that she has been playing the piano for years and she is from the Ukraine. Russia and the Ukraine have some of the most prettiest women and she was definitely one of them. I enjoyed her class. Her class provided a good atmosphere for learning and was able to cope with her students who had trouble playing the piano. Her lectures were easy to understand and were doable. The course is meaningless if students don't practice, but it's well worth it if students show a lot of motivation and effort into playing the piano.
Her ability to get the students engaged in their learning is a major strength.
Very great with helping others with technique and skill.
She explains what we need to do, helps us one on one to make sure we understand, demonstrates things to make learning easier.
fair
She knows what she's talking about. She leads by example and is very observant, letting us know if we're doing something the wrong way.
She is passionate about what she teaches.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I don't have any changes that I can suggest. It was a good class and I dont think there's really anything to change.
No change at all.
less quizzes to focus on book and recitals
nothing, she is a good teacher
none
N/a
Be more strict about deadline dates. (example: if a free write is due on a certain day, deduct points if it is late)
maybe miz up lesson plans note reading and symbol reading would help
no changes. Final recital was scary though.
Her guidelines and activities on the units were steady but it seemed like she sort of rushed through the units too fast. She only allowed her students about a couple of minutes to try and play the piece from the book until she moved along to the next page. It was like an accelerated course and only a limited amount of time to practice in class and the rest is up to the students to arrange their practice schedule outside of class. It would be wonderful if she would sit down with each of her students and go over the pieces individually until they understand.
None
Nothing really.

None. She's a great teacher.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always goes around checking how we are doing.
She always scheduled appointments on her office with each one of us to help in our weakness.
she always asked us if we needed help and recommended scheduling meetings for practicing
yes, she is not as understanding as other.
She constantly made sure that we wee preparing and practicing for our midterm and final pieces.
By understanding personal issues! Thank you!
Encouraged students to contact the student assistant for help, or to contact her to go over any concept that needs to be reviewed.
offered help outside of class
She helped the class individually when needed. That was very helpful.
always able to help you. Scheduling time to sit with you out of class to help Noting who's behind and spending extra time. allowing makeup to test. giving the best care ever
The midterm and the final recital was the most important part of the students' grade and she encouraged all of us to seek help from the tutor who was available for all days of the week and a phone call away to arrange a meeting. For once, she arranged a schedule to meet her students individually to work on their final pieces for the final recital. She is not a strict instructor and she is very patient with her students and she is more than welcome to help her students if they are struggling. However, she does not like slackers that are not prepared. She may be harsh but it's a sign that she cares and shows concern. She wasn't harsh about grading either. Her quizzes were relatively easy to get an A. It's all about practice.
Asking us if we needed help understanding anything and checking up on us one on one while we practiced piano.
continue to encourage
She met with us privately to help us prepare for the final recital. She helped us out with our group scale tests.
She always offers help outside the classroom and encourages students to practice.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would because she moves at a perfect pace and you will learn a lot in her class.
Yes. Absolutely.
sure but she's kind of hard
yes, she really like what she is doing.
Yes, because she has a lot of experience in teaching and she knows how to direct a student according to their ability.
Yes, because now I know how to play and read music on a piano!
Yes. She is an excellent teacher!

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Knew plenty about the subject and made it fun to learn
knowing the material well
She's very good at helping her students with their skills on piano. She has a very good professional skills in piano and works rigorously hard.
She is very good at playing piano. She would mesmerize me with her piano playing. She split up the material into different sections so that the parts that were related were in a certain section.
she was able to teach me piano better then any other instructor ive had in the past.
Her ability to apply the changes that needed to be made, then perform the piece as it should be was one of her strengths. Because I personally found it helpful to hear what a piece should sound like, that way I could change what I was doing wrong or not doing.
She does very good teaching
Having fun in class, always challenging in a good way, and i always wanted to learn more.
the Piano and connecting to students.
Lively which would make me want to learn more. She would encourage us to do our best and tell us to keep trying until we get the music right.

none.
I suggest. more one on one with the student. demonstrations.
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Went outta the way to sched help for students after class to prepare for exams
by pulling them aside to give them one-on-one practice
She helped them whenever they are struggling and she does individual practices one by one with all of her students.
She would let us practice while she walked around the room and helped us individually.
she always came to you if she saw you were struggling, an suggested a better way.
By having students coming into practice, one on one, with her; she demonstrated great concern for the better of the students. Helping them to become better musicians and learn how to play the piano as the "greats" do.
She helped me in my pieces and everything I needed help with
Always seeing if anyone needed help, or if we did need help then she would help us individually after class.
By listing to students concerns and being there to help.
She would work with us after class hours or we would make an appointment to work on our piano playing. For our final recital she made sure we were ready by letting us practice on the grand piano and she would give very good comments as to how we can better our piano playing.
