10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Getting in depth with the DSM5. Having Chris as our instructor was a great asset in understanding and being familiar with the latest edition. Having a variety of guest speakers was great to hear from the experts themselves.
Everything, Chris is very enthusiastic and passionate as an instructor and because of that we students are more than willing to learn from him. Thank you Chris!
Everything within the course was valuable and it has been such a great learning experience this semester. I especially liked the emphasis on learning the DSM V as well as additional treatment modalities.
Learning about all of the different treatment modalities and having the ppts to refer to. Chris was very encouraging and continued to always ask our opinions and keep us a part of this positive learning experience. Again he does give a lot of work but he is very fair and we are able to look back to the works for future reference. So much resources given and feeling comfortable myself knowing that i am okay to call Chris with questions in the future is a plus. I have had such a great experience in Christopher's class. Thank you for your detailed rubric's and power point lectures to be able to look at them later, i have all of them saved. It helps to have a guide especially at the end of the semester when all of us feel so tired and drained and just trying to get by. You are an excellent instructor, please continue to teach it really is beneficial for us, communities and the state of Hawai'i.
Chris is my favorite professor and should be highly valued. I enjoyed the independent research and analysis of treatment modality.
Bringing in speakers from different organizations really helped us to see how everyone contributes to the overall well-being of the community. Chris' real world examples and knowledge of the content made it really easy to relate to the information. Also, even though Chris wasn't born and raised in Hawaii he understands the local culture well and has an appreciation for it which is obvious in how he teaches.
The different types of therapeutic interventions, DSM 5, mental health and co-occuring disorders
Chris has made every lecture, every concpet of behavioral mental health relevant to each individual. He made sure every concept was explained thoroughly and in a way where studetn were able to understand them.
The discussions about the materials were helpful. It was nice to have a variety of presenters who are knowledgeable in their field. Best when they were online without distraction.
The entire course was most valuable, but to be specific: Readings & Resources Rubrics Presentations Guest Speakers
The projects we had to do for class were helpful. I got to research a therapy modality in depth which added to my knowledge. The presentations by my classmates was instructive and very valuable.
The guest speakers as they were able to bring a different type of awareness and knowledge. All of the guest speakers were very passionate and knowledgeable about the topics that they discussed.
Learning through our assignments 1-4. Especially the portfolio and modalities. The guest speakers were helpful in learning about their field of interest in social work and types of jobs to see if It would fit after graduation. The class discussions on the material were we being thought was helpful and how the instructor ran the class was very clear and efficient.
Course material was very abundant with information. I felt very productive with this class and I felt like I learned such a great deal about behavioral mental health under this course. Every second of the course was well accounted for. A semester is a short time to learn about a huge subject, but the instructional time was used in the most effective way I thought possible.
The speakers were the most valuable resource, being able to hear the diverse individuals in the mental health community and other aspects of healthcare was a great learning experience.

18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Chris is very knowledgeable in behavioral mental health, if he did not know the answer he was sure to get it to you by next class session. Chris was very welcoming and I did not feel intimidated or pressured when needing to ask questions are wanting to share in discussion.
Chris has offered various means of knowledge and resource to us that will be valuable through our careers.
Chris has been by far the best instructor that I have had while in this program. His knowledge, teaching style, and genuine desire to help each of us become competent and empathic social workers has made it such a joy to be in his class. The fact that he makes himself constantly available and being more than willing to help however he can to encourage our success has been extremely valuable.
Clear instructions Fun discussions we can use out here in the community Always available for us and answers emails in a very timely manner.
He is a great professor and is able to explain subject matter in a real world easily understood manner.
Chris always tried to help us understand--he wasn't just trying to get us to complete an assignment but he wanted us to grasp the content. He didn't want us to just write a good paper but to show that we understand why its important to know particularly in our self-awareness, maintaining objectivity, and being compassionate at all times. If we don't understand an assignment he's always willing to help us through it and provides very clear direction.
Chris' experience, wisdom, genuine persona and his ability to articulate his knowledge to the class in that is both informative and fun, creating motivation and active engagement with his students.
He made sure he made time to answer any one question, and always came to class prepared wiith a response when he didnt. He provided multiple extra resources for student throughout the semester.
Chris' obvious extensive preparation for the class and his enthusiasm, his knowledge and experience about the field and material, positive outlook, support, made me feel like a valued student.
Chris is always prepared. He is easily accessible and helpful with assignments. His rubrics give students a fair shot at earning an A because his expectations are clear. That is extremely helpful.
He was available day and night, week ends included and was always extremely helpful.
He is willing to work with the students on their level. He is very accommodating to our needs as students, but still has firm boundaries and ideas of what he wants us to accomplish and learn throughout the course. He is easily accessible and very willing to answer any question or help us out in anyway that he can.
Organized, efficient, good listener, very understandable and adaptive to change with his students. Material on assignments clearly written so students could complete the assignments and compassionate in understanding life as a graduate student.
This professor offered countless valuable aspects. As a graduate student, what I benefited greatly from Chris was his organization as a professor. The course's calendar, schedule, assignments, lectures and rubrics was well structured and it allowed for me to understand what he expected from and of me as his student. It greatly benefited my learning experience. It helped me absorb the material well and guided me through the semester as I was given material. Being organized and structured in such an articulated way is a good communication strategy between professor and class. Other professors should learn from his example.
Chris is by far the best instructor in the MSW Program that I have encountered. He is very clear and efficient in his assignments and lectures. With little time we have in the semester, he covered many different aspects of Behavioral Mental Health. Chris is very flexible and immediately responds to questions or problems.

Chris should continue to teach this course. His background has reinforced his teaching style; providing real life experiences and and allowing me to hear what he is doing and has done for the community is vital in knowing he has been there. Chris is someone that is professional and yet still manages to be personable in the way he conducts class and discussions. Telling students that he has made mistakes and that it is ok to do so, hearing this as a student helps in knowing that this is a learning process. Chris expresses great enthusiasm in his teaching and is essential when trying to understand and grasp the subject. Chris you are rad, awesome and just an amazing instructor! Continue doing what you are doing, thank you for making this class enjoyable and making me look at the field as a way of life and not as "work". Please continue to teach this course, there are others who I know will benefit from your teachings, knowledge and passion to help others!! BIBA SOCIAL WORK!!
This course and Chris as an instructor has been fantastic. I would considering taking any course taught by Chris as he is that great of an instructor. I would also recommend anyone that asks me about taking a course taught by Chris to do so as it will be a great learning experience not only in terms of traditional education but a great learning experience about yourself as well. He is great at challenging how one thinks about individuals who are suffering from mental illness but doing it in such a way that it does not make you feel guilty or ashamed. It is simply brought up in a way that helps you to grow as a professional and an individual.
Thank you for a wonderful encouraging educational experience. I would recommend your class to anyone.
Once again, Chris is the best professor I've encountered in this program. His ability to present the subject matter in a concise understandable way is unique to him. He is patient and fair. He is inspiring and has the ability to keep his students engaged.
Chris is an awesome instructor and an asset to the MSW program.
Chris leads by example and is in a class by himself, setting the bar to a very high standard of professionalism and dedication.
Chris has made himself and his course a learning experience of a lifetime.
Chris is an excellent instructor and an asset to the MSW DE program. I would be nice to have had a HITS class with him. He is dynamic and I believe would have been even more engaging in HITS.
It was such an honor being your student. You are and will always be one of my favorite professors (for too many reasons to describe). Probably the best way for me to say it is, 'Thank you for being that PE teacher that actually ran WITH us.'Hopefully you teach again because I've already recommended your class(es). Thank you so much!
I feel that Chris is one of the best instructors that the program has. I hope you use him wisely in the future and many more students get to benefit from his vastly wide and varied experiences.
I enjoyed having Chris as an instructor, I feel that I have learned a lot in his classes. He has definitely pushed me to real think about my skills and put them into practice.
Excellent instructor and one of the best I've had in my time in school.
Chris, you are such a phenomenal instructor. I am so grateful to have been given the privilege to be taught by you. It takes a lot of energy and effort, and of course, sacrifices, to be be a great professor and to run your classes the way you do. I hope if you do stop teaching for a bit, that you enjoy that time, as we all know, you deserve it! However, I hope you do find that one day, you will be missing teaching and decide to come back and offer your instruction to another generation of students. Mahalo Nui Loa and Saina Ma'ase, Sarah T. Thank you Chris for giving me the most valuable learning experience that will definitely help me in the social work field. Greatly appreciated.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I believe all contents in this course were extremely valuable as it relates to actual clinical work applied in the field/work setting. The mental health disorder assignment using the DSM 5 is an extremely essential and effective learning tool because it allowed us to grasp an understanding on the mental health disorders and it's classification updated in the DSM 5. This learning tool provided us with an overall idea and understanding on mental health and behavioral disorders that will guide us in the clinical social work field in helping clients seek treatment and manage their affliction towards recovery, long-term stability, and improvement of their quality of life living in the community.
This was by the far the MOST useful class I've taken in the 3 years I've been in this program. The tools learned in this class are tools that I will need to succeed as a social worker. Every assignment was carefully thought out and good practice for real life situations. I especially found useful the assessments, DSM, motivational interviewing.
I don't even know where to start. EVERYTHING was valuable. Chris does not miss a beat when equipping us with resources and information (even if it was a crazy amount of reading).
Chris created an exciting learning environment. I felt his real world knowledge and experience inspired the entire class. The most valuable aspects of this course were motivational interviewing, mental status examination, and the DSM-5.
Christopher Rocchio's entire class was extremely valuable from lectures, resources, and assignments they have all connected and have provided me with useful information that I can apply to real life work.
Learning about Motivational interviewing, presentations on dsm disorders and case diagnosis evaluation.
What i found most valuable in the course was the discussions on the DSM V. I also found the videos and resources given were very valuable. I am a visual learner so the videos allowed me to learn and understand the information in a way where I could easily grasp the concepts that were being presented in our readings.
I liked the presentation of various EBP for the disorders that we were studying. This was useful information.
Lectures/Assignments
Information presented by Chris and classmates.
Everything learned in this course was extremely valuable. All that have been learned I have immediately put it into practice at both my current employment as well as within my practicum site.
An abundance of information and outstanding class structure
Motivational interview was interesting and would like to see more and do more with that! I also liked all of the useful information given to us that we can use while working with our consumers, especially the link that shows the actress playing out different disorders/behaviors examples! Helped me to understand more on what to look for! Thank u Chris!!! ALOT OF WORK but Chris was flexible and even though we had to ALOT of work alot of this useful!
All of it was valuable and useful!
Starting class at 6:30 is better than later. The weekly homework keeps me on task. It keeps me engaged while not being overly cumbersome.

18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Chris is very intelligent, insightful, and extremely articulate in conveying his wisdom and fund of knowledge in several aspects of behavioral health. He is very thorough and meticulous as evident by his class presentations and very detailed syllabus. Chris also provided us with rubrics to help guide us in covering the main concepts in completing our assignments. He also gave us the opportunity to share our ideas in class, respecting our thoughts and ideas, while also providing appropriate feedback and constructive criticism in helping us be open minded of other's perspectives. The qualities I really liked about Chris is his flexibility and understanding, and fairness geared toward student-centered approach. He had an open door policy allowing us to contact him anytime if we had questions, and made himself available for office hours each week. Chris also responded very quickly to e-mails, and especially responded to all my e-mails. Chris went out of his way to assert fairness in his teaching style and grading, implementing a randomized program in selecting students to participate and share their answers/experiences. He was objective and neutral in grading assignments, and practiced not reading the student's name in an effort to be fair and neutral, while providing a grade after evaluating each assignment. I strongly believe that other instructors and professionals can learn from Chris' teaching style and character and implement his utmost professionalism. Chris is a genuine person, caring, understanding, and non-judgmental. Christopher Rocchio is a valuable asset to UH Manoa and his respective work positions in the field. His teaching style, wisdom, character, and professionalism will resonate with the students and colleagues that will have the chance to work with him.
He actually cared about what the students were learning. He was very down to earth and wanted to make sure that the material was relevant and that he was being fair. He spoke to us as colleagues and not as minion. I really appreciated that when students felt things were a little rough that he really did listen and tried to make the assignments less stressful but still expecting high quality work.
Chris is by far one of the best professors I have ever had in my life. And I am not brown nosing in any aspect. Chris is clear, organized, articulate, helpful, smart and simply has so much to offer students. And his rubrics are ON POINT! Those things are extremely helpful.
His teaching style, knowledge, and real world experience inspires his students. He's a great teacher.
He was always on point, utilizing every single second given. He was able to provide text book definitions, as well as real life exmamples to the class. He also provided the class with rubrics which is extremely helpful not only to completeing assignments but pointing out key points in a lecture or to important information to keep in mind.
He was always available for questions and concerns I had. He articulated well and was always supportive in helping students out with encouraging words. He was willing to move assignments around in order to help students with things that came up personally in the semester. He listened to our concerns and adjusted his syllabus. Enjoyed his method of teaching mental health.
He is very knowledgeable and creative in the way he presents the readings and goals for the course. He gave different options and used other media tools to present the information.
He was responsive to my special needs and worked with me so I could complete the assignments.
Flexible, very helpful, useful information
His enthusiasm and commitment to the course and students. Chris has great communication skills when interacting with students. He has helped me stay focused and engaged in the area of mental health. His open door policy has allowed me to express my concerns and ideas without feeling that I was going to be judged.
He shared a lot of great and valuable information. I definitely learned a lot from him.
He has great structure, planning, organization and distribution with and for class material. He is very knowledgeable and has so much to offer for the UH's social work programs and students. He is very positive and encouraging for students and promotes a lot of growth for each and every one of us. He is a giant tool belt for the program and students' journey - he, himself is the most valuable. Mahalo nui loa Chris, Sarah Taitano, BSW
His attitude and encouragement towards all of us!!! Always willing to explain if we ask and always has a good pace where i can keep up!
The rubrics that he provided and his willingness to research information if he did not know the answer to questions.
Chris' enthusiasm for the subject; his vast knowledge; his dedication to preparing great lectures; he is positive and always supportive; shares his expectations clearly and realistically; is honest about his views on things.

Chris is one of the best instructors I had in this UH Manoa MSW DE Program.
Awesome class! I wish I had been learning all of these things throughout the entire three years rather than just my last year. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of information.
I truly appreciate all the hard work you've put into this class. Your class provides me with a lot of confidence in my practicum and helps me truly think critically. Thank you so much for everything (minus the amounts of reading...well okay that topic is bittersweet).
One of the most interesting useful classes in the program.
Great instructor. To add constructively sometimes using all the time in the class every session is providing us with information overload. Some concepts are more difficult than others and harder to comprehend text book is not always user friendly, real life examples are! Thank you for a great semester
I found the rubics helpful and beneficial because it gave us an idea of what he wanted and how to achieve the highest grade possible. He also gave plenty of valuable resources that we could use in the future.
I dislike group projects because I always seem to end up doing something that is meaningless to me. I feel that at this point in my education, I could benefit from being allowed to choose a topic that interested me and helped me grow. I believe this is a school requirement as most of my courses have these. I don't hold it against Chris.
THANK YOU CHRIS!!! Although the material is a lot to digest it helps that Chris is in the field and is practising what he is teaching. He is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, transparent and passionate about mental health, thank you!!!
This was a great course, definitely challenged me to really think about things in a different way. It also helped me in my practicum setting.
Thank you for the great semester!
Im glad we have him again next semester :)
I would take any course being taught by Chris!
Chris is an excellent instructor. He is engaging, dynamic, extremely knowledgeable, is completely strengths based. I look forward to his class next semester.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
To fully appreciate through understanding, the importance of having skills for research, analysis, and evaluation for agencies and their programs in order to practice at an advanced general level utilizing to the fullest extent the NASW Code of Ethics.
Examples for visual learners
Learning to designin an applicable Program Evaluation Report.
The instructors availability outside of class time was/is something that I appreciate. He never let time zones interferer with his teaching as well as the learning objectives and outcomes. Chris always encouraged questions, comments, concerns, opinions and possible solutions during class time. Always making sure to address each concern. His power point presentations were always much more easier to understand than the textbook itself. To me this shows his willingness to breakdown chapters to the best way a student can grasp the information.
Chris is thorough and makes students feel comfortable enough to ask for clarification about material.
The combination of academic materials provided by the instructor which includes Blackboard lecture, powerpoints, and even down to APA formatting!
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Everything I learned was valuable.
The time fame of the course was too quick for me.
All aspects were connected in a good flow to support the goals and objectives of this course to prepare students for their final project - submitting a Program Evaluation Report.
It was all valuable, in my opinion.
None
14. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
Realizing where I learned how to evaluate the stated goals of any agency I may be working for. It also provided excellent and useful information for systems that should be put in place if I ever decide to practice as a licensed independent social worker.
it's significance to make sure we are doing the work that makes a difference.
This was my first time using Blackboard. It was a good interactie learning experience and the instructor made it fun and engaging. I also enjoyed working with my fellow peers. Though nervous and apprehensive at first, overall, I enjoyed this first time experience.
My first course being done through the University of Hawaii at Manoa :) Also, Chris was very enthusiastic and showed eagerness to want to teach. He was always prepared for class. I never felt pressure to not want to go to class, although the subject matter was somewhat new to me he was able to teach in a manner that I did not feel intimidated.
...having to write up a legitimate evaluation proposal.
How Chris demonstrated how important it is to evaluate programs and its effectiveness to ensure client/consumer protection and is being served appropriately.
15. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I found the information which opened me to utilizing creative approaches when presenting data in order to make it truly meaningful, motivating and engaging to stakeholders the most useful concept.
Most valuable is knowing that the contents of the course will be applied to the work we will be doing as social workers.
Mr. Rocchio demonstrated enthusiasm while teaching this course - he is passionate about his profession as a Social Work Program Evaluator and it transferred into his teaching without imposing any bias to force students into this specific type of work. His knowledge and experience combined with his savvy of technology made learning the course material fun and interesting.
That being a social worker I could also be an evaluator. I never did think of this area before but is something that has opened my mind to. There is a lot that goes into this line of work but I can now see the positive outcomes to why one may want to be an evaluator.
I understand program evaluation, whereas I knew nothing about it before this course.
I was able to learn how to properly evaluate a program and write an effective proposed program evaluation
Every aspect of this course is of great value and help.

25. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Christopher's dedication to my learning was most notable by means of helping with the significant technological problems with Blackboard. Notifying tech personnel, and working with students impacted by these issues.
Chris is always prepared for each class and stays on task. His examples help to better understand the material. He is very enthusiastic about the subject which makes it easier for me to be in tune within the classes.
He was flexible to meet the needs of his students while maintaining the integrity of the course goals and objectives as stated in the syllabus.
Chris was always positive, enthusiastic and encouraging. These are characteristics of an instructor that will help me pull through the course (no matter how difficult it may seem)and although I may not fully get the material I am able to grasp the concept because of his teachings. Thank you Chris!
When he offers criticism, it is accompanied with suggestions rather than just leaving the student hanging.
he was very helpful in clarifying material and giving examples to relate to what we are learning. He was able to meet our needs in terms of how we grasp the material. He was able to provide more visuals and would ask us for feedback about his teaching and the class.
He definitely knows the material, has actual experience on both ends of an evaluation of a study being done, he has great energy and always makes sure to ask if we understand or need further clarification.

32. Other comments:
The biggest hurdle remains the technology of Blackboard. At first I thought it may have been unique to my situation, but as the class progressed I realized this is a problem across the board for students in general adding extra burden for the instructor. I thought Christopher Rocchio did exceptionally well to problem solve and accommodate these challenges for myself and all students.
Please allow Chris to continue teaching (any course),I feel that his knowledge, enthusiasm and drive to want better for communities will help any social work student want to do the same.
Thank you for a good learning experience and introduction to program evaluation.
Great course and definitely only adds to my knowledge, awesome instructor!
