I didn't like some of the readings just because some were boring and super long.
Some of the readings were rather long and confusing
It was a very early class.
The final presentation of our final paper. It was difficult to choose a topic. It would have been better if we were assigned a topic.
I didn't like reading Rawlinson, the book was too dense and some other readings such as the homosexuality and tv topic I found rather boring.
Some readings were relatively long and a little difficult to comprehend.
Readings
I do not understand why a writing intensive class had a mid-term test.
Some of the readings were dry in Rawlinson. I didn't care for the topic of the second paper.

Early in the morning and almost a huge chunk of your grade being participation was difficult but easy to overcome
Maybe a little too much reading, I like short but to the point readings
The reading of the very dry materials. Not all of them but some of them.
The reading since I'm not very good at dissecting readings.
The group presentation...I do not like those in general.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
it was alright. Very intersting and learned things that I never knew before.
Great course. Material was very interesting which made the class enjoyable. I liked the fact that there were only 6 students made the course more engaging.
The course is very good, would definitely recommend, the WI and HAP fulfillment is a bonus.
I really enjoyed this course! I would take another class that followed the same structure as this one.

I enjoyed the class very much, and would recommend both the class and Stacy as an instructor to friends.
I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it.
Great! Really informative and inspiring
A good course.
Although the course has a heavy load of reading, I honestly enjoyed this class.
Very good and interesting but the readings really put me off for some reason.
18. Other comments:
There were times when class discussion as a single group were quiet. However, I feel as though Ms. Nojima assumed that the students haven't read the assigned readings. That was not the case for me in particular. I felt that sometimes my input would be repetitive and not necessary; I didn't want to repeat differently what someone had already said. I also feel that the feedback Ms. Nojima sought after from her students weren't readily available for an on the spot answer. For example, doing a reading response as an assignment allows the student to think thoughtfully, which requires a copious amount of time for a student like myself. I conclude that the questions asked toward the class as a group should have been used as a reading response question rather than an in-class discussion.
Stacy will you marry me?
I was super lazy this semester but I bet I would have enjoyed the course a lot more if I was not.

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Profession Nojima was a great professor. She really knew the subject and communicated to students effectively. Her in-depth analysis on each topic of the week helped us students to not only think more critically about each subject but provided us with a broader perspective on the concepts. She provided us with great discussion and encouraged us to voice our individual/personal opinions (which is hard to come by). She also provided us with opportunities to receive extra credit. She used different mediums and styles of teaching to make the subject more interesting to learn about.
Good job
great teacher, very smart!
I really enjoyed the small class setting, made group discussions more intimate.
She is an enthusiastic and engaging teacher who encourages her students to not only think critically, but also to take into account different perspectives. She prefers to have class discussions rather than a lecture- based method of teaching, making the class more comfortable and increases participation. Overall, she is a good teacher who really wants her students to learn in her class and succeed.
She is a great teacher. There was a lot of readings but she always encouraged us to read and if it was too heavy she would revise it for us. She was always excited for class and ready to discuss.
She is a great teacher who really enjoys teaching this subject.
Solid teacher.
Excellent instructor. She is very approachable and is very understanding of our needs and is very convenient in such that she tries to work around our schedules.
Nice but she expected a lot from our class.
Very, very enthusiastic about the material, to the point of inspiration.
an extremely knowledgeable and professional instructor who inspired me to do my best. Her enthusiasm and extensive insight on all American Studies topics made me want to know more about possibly changing my major to American Studies. Ms. Stacy is a wonderful teacher who is the epitome of one who truly cares about the success of each of her students. Thank you for everything!
she was one of the best teachers ive ever had. i fully enjoyed having her as my professor and she was always so nice and easy to talk to!
Professor Nojima is a highly qualified, helpful and well-informed instructor with good attitude and enthusiastic presentation.
She is a great instructor.
A great teacher who has a passion for American Studies. Creates an even level of discussion for class involvement and selects great material for thought and class stimulation.
A great professor and very knowledgable. She is great at conducting class discussions and applying the material.
Ms. Nojima was very involved in the creation of discussion in the classroom. Although there was less class discussion than she preferred, she was able to work on trying to engage the class in the materials. She had a good knowledge of the materials as well as the movements that we were focused on in class.
very good instructor
GREAT!!!! Very knowledgable of the course material, also actively responds to questions that students ask.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed connecting articles to the overall concept/social movement that we were learning each week.
In depth discussion without criticism
discussions were challenging but interesting
The debates we had in class over topics given.
I first took this class as an elective but I enjoy the topics that we discuss. After taking this class, I feel that the information we learn is so important in American culture, and I am slightly disappointed that the material is omitted from history classes in secondary education.
The content. The information I learned about the movements in history was very interesting because I haven't heard of most of them until now.
I liked the freedom she gave us when it came to essay topics.
Discussions.
I enjoyed some of the readings and being able to discuss them with my peers. I think this allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the material and it gives me different perspectives on topics that are relevant to today.
The movie that we watched that related back to the re-education camps in vietnam
I enjoyed the freedom in the essays, writing essays was actually the most enjoyable part.
I enjoyed the class discussions and the short clips we watched.
learning about all the social movements and alot of history i didnt know
Class discussions
The discussions and movies.
I enjoyed discussions most, despite half of the class being hella shy and quiet.
The class discussions
I enjoyed the flexibility that Ms. Nojima had in adjusting schedules and assignments to the class' needs.
The videos
I loved the variety of topics. I learned a lot from this course and gained many more perspectives of groups that I never would have thought of otherwise. Also, I loved the assignment of analyzing the Frederick Douglass passage, line by line...a very different and interesting way to approach an analysis paper...usually passages are seen as being one thought, but with this exercise I was able to appreciate the thought put into every line, a trait that will definitely be beneficial for me in the future!
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
It was just a lot of reading but thats what you have to do.
America bashing a little too much
The reading. It was a lot, but has to be done.
Even though the topics were interesting, there was a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time.
The large amount of reading.
I liked learning about the different social movements.
Reading, but there's no way around it.
Some of the readings were quite lengthy.
some of the readings were lengthy and boring
The different readings all saying the same thing.
Nothing
alot of reading
Presentation :/
I disliked the long readings that i got lost in. If i wasn't all the way in the reading, i retained very little coming out of it. So interesting readings made things easier.
The daily intense reading
I personally thought that there was a lot of readings to complete.
Long readings
The readings were a little long...but I understand the difficulty in explaining an entire movement in a short passage, so I believe the readings are appropriate.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
This was a great course and I'm really glad I took it. It was interesting and really forced myself to think critically on U.S. History and think beyond your own perspective and see others. I loved the subject and I learned a lot.

This is a very interesting course that I feel is fundamental to understand, especially since this pertains to our own history. It provided a means to think critically as well as see history through a different viewpoint.

A great class to improve writing and communication as well as learning alot about social movements.
I thought I learned a lot of the different aspects of movements that I never saw before. I think it is the perfect class for students who want to learn a different side of history not taught in general history classes.
