9. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
Saba's resourcefulness and humor during clinical situations
Ten years from now, I will remember this course by its rigor and how great of an instructor Saba was to us. She had very high standards for each of us, it was good because it pushed us to excel and know our patients holistically, which was hard to do in previous clinicals.
How my clinical instructor Saba taught me everything i needed to know on the Neuro floor. I will remember how strict she was on having to know my medications and important other information that is relevant in clinical.
Appicable knowledge
Being challenged and encouraged to work hard.
the skills and knowledge acquired in clinicals.
Knowing how to use a carpuject
Saba Kam, my instructor. She is hard and sometimes intimidating. But that is the part that makes her a really good instructor. The fact that she is younger makes it easier for us to communicate with her and find a common ground as student and teacher. Honestly, she is probably the best instructor I've had so far as a student in UHM's Nursing School.

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Saba answers your questions when needed.
Even though it was nerve wracking at times, I think the quizzes during clinic where extremely helpful. I learned so much and they helped me retain the information better because I could then apply that information to my patient care that very same day.
she was easy going and easy approachable. she was always willing to help her students and always made sure that we were understanding the material and questions that was given. she can be strict on having to know our meds and our skills but it made me more confident and competent as we got thru this semester.
Her quizzes
Everything, I learned so much this semester form her. One of the best instructors I have ever had.
Review of important information for clinicals.
Saba had a well established rapport with the staff. They trusted her, which in turn helped gain their confidence in us. She held everyone to the same standards. She represented herself in a professional manner, but created a bond with each of her students.
I found that the quizzes where helpful and going over the drugs of the patients in our care that day.
She made us think critically for every component in taking care of our patient. The lab values, the medications, the diagnosis, the assessments, the notes, and everything else. She made us do a lot of clinical skills, whether we were comfortable or not, so we could get the experience. She would go step by step too.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
This clinical has been a highlight of my spring semester and I can not think of anything to improve it.
I would have liked more time on learning how to read strips. We didn't touch on this until the end of the semester and I feel like if we had more repetition integrated into the clinical setting we could have learned more.
More quizes to test us more on the subjects.
Since Saba is very knowledgeable, I think the best thing for her to do is to assess the level of knowledge of the students, and then refresh/teach us on the topic (if lacking) and then quiz. Since MEPN is so fast, we get a jist of the information through our lecture class. Repetition is great, and also it is important to remember that transitioning over from book to clinical aspect takes time.
20. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She built a good relationship with the nurses on our floor which really makes a difference in our clinical experiences. The nurses were much more accepting of us because they had a good relationship with Saba and knew what type of instructor we were under. One of the nurses even said, "I wish I had a clinical instructor like her." :)
Saba was very organized; she outlined her expectations at the beginning of semester, which was very helpful; she gave us very clear directions on how to do assessments and perform certain clinical skills, which greatly decreased my anxiety about interacting with patients; she encouraged students to ask questions; she made notes on the things that we would miss during a clinical and then reinforced/quizzed us during post conference, which helped us avoid making the same mistakes again; she was very approachable and friendly, yet very professional; she advocated for students to the nursing staff so that WE got to do more procedures and to carry more responsibility for our patients
knowledgeable about patho, meds, procedures.
The objectives were very clearly outlined from the beginning. Saba communicated extremely well and had appropriate expectations of us. I felt challenged but always supported. Additionally, Saba helped to create a very pleasant environment with the nurses on Pauahi 6. Having a clinical instructor that works at the facility is extremely valuable.
By far the only instructor that takes the time to teach us and quiz us to continue to be knowledgable.
I love that Saba has expectations of her students and makes those expectations clear from the beginning; those expectations have helped me to improve and to develop my critical thinking skills. Saba is very accessible and knowledgeable and is able to answer any questions that I have. I also feel that given her connection to Queens and the respect that she deems from the floor, the nurses were more conducive to taking us on and allowing us to be more involved in patient care.
I like that Saba knows her stuff. She knows her pathophysiology and the best way to do things. It was helpful to quiz us on the reasons for what we are doing.
21. What two or three single words best describe this instructor?
Real - She doesn't try to sugarcoat anything and says it like it is. She would give us constructive criticism, but pick us up right after, making sure that we were in the best situation for learning to occur. Funny - We were always laughing and I feel that that has helped all of us to build a strong relationship with her.
Competent Organized Friendly
organized, knowledgeable, helpful
Knowledgable and patient.
Intelligent, disciplined, approachable.
Efficient, smart
22. Other comments:
It was helpful that Saba has worked at Queens and knew the instruments or the logistics of how things worked. I feel that all the instructors should get an orientation at their respective clinical site prior to the start of the semester because it doesn't help the student to learn if the instructor doesn't even know where things are placed or how the various instruments (electronic IV pump) works.
Wish there were more clinical instructors like Saba in the MEPN program
This was a really pleasant experience all around. Pauahi 6 was a great floor to practice skills and the nurses were generally very helpful and willing to teach us.
Saba's awesome! I learned a lot from her and am grateful that I got to have her for one of my clinicals.
I enjoyed being a part of this clinical. I felt challenged and learned a lot being on the floor. I could imagine that being responsible for many students is stressful and I think Saba did a great job managing all of us.

20. How can the laboratory be improved?
Clinicals at Queens with Saba has been a great experience and I have been able to learn so many new things and actually perform the skills that we have learned in lab. While being at Queen's I have a better understanding about how to actually care for a patient and Saba makes me feel comfortable doing tasks because I know that she is supportive and will help as needed. She pays attention to each individual student and provides constructive criticism in order to help us become more competent nursing students.

Very nice, easily approachable, and knowledgable. She made this semester meaningful and enjoyable and gave good feedback.
Saba was very accessible by phone and e-mail. I appreciated her flexibility with site visit scheduling since we had to work around the preceptor's schedule. She was pleasant and encouraging while also giving good guidance and correction where needed.
