9. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
The different perspectives of evil.
the many examples evil can be displayed.
This class gave allowed me to look at concepts from different points of views. I realize now that terms such as "evil" and concepts of empathy and altruism are not black and white. Sometimes concepts such as these fall on a continuum.
how applicable theories of human behavior are to everyday occurences.
The Jigsaw chapter! It was really interesting to me. :)
Reading and thinking outside of the box about evil and good. I got my thoughts put into perspective by taking this course, was very interesting.
The movies that i watched
The many ways it applies to the real world. This class is amazing, and I fully encourage anyone who has the chance to take it! I think TMT will forever stick with me, and I will forever analyze lies differently. This class left me feeling much more connected with others and more intrigued by our human race than ever before.

23. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked the discussions the best. The discussions helped me stay on track with my readings and they helped me get a better understanding of the topic.
video clips, the examples of evil, and being able to write our papers according to our own opinion.
I enjoyed the mini papers the best. I felt that these papers gave me the freedom to explore aspects of topics that interested me.
I always prefer the short paper format - even in writing intensive courses, several short papers are more manageable than one long paper. I appreciated the opportunity to incorporate my own opinions into the discussions in addition to supporting it with ideas and concepts being studied. More than anything else, the subject matter was extremely engaging and enlightening - I hope it continues to be taught for years to come.
The book was probably the best text book I've ever had to read.
I loved how I didn't need to get ready, go to school and to have to fight traffic and parking. This online class was wonderful. The class did great in returning feedback as well as sharing their opinions.
The structure of having to write a paper about what we learned and then the next week taking a quiz. It helped the retention of the material
The assignments, online discussion, and quizzes were all formatted in a way that encouraged individual thought, creativity, and a deeper level of processing than just rote learning. There was adequate time to read material, and to actually be able to THINK about it and process information. Unlike many other instructors who get caught up in competition to see how much work they can pile on their students, this professor gave just the right amount of reading and assignments to allow a student time to be successful and to actually retain the information.
24. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Having no face-to-face interactions were difficult to adjust to.
N/A
none
I suppose the 30 minute limit on the exam caused a bit of anxiety. This is not to say it was unreasonable because it entailed just a few short answers... still, knowing the computer will automatically submit after a specific amount of time added a bit of pressure :o)
Some of the discussions were bland. People didn't post interesting or thought-provoking things, so I stopped reading them.
I liked writing freely in our papers. There wasn't such a harsh guideline to follow. Prof Luckhurst allowed us to freely write about whatever we thought about....I enjoyed that!
N/A
sometimes the additional resource documents and power points were not available in a timely manner. I would suggest that the professor upload all the documents at the beginning of the course. Aside from this I would say this was in my top ranking favorite classes of my entire education.
25. Global appraisal: Considering everything how would you rate this COURSE?
Mean N-Size Std Dev   Very Poor   Poor   Average   Good   Excellent
5.0 7 0.0 Freq(%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 0 (0%) 7 (100%)
26. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
No improvements. The course was structured really well.
I can't think of anything.
Post the readings, discussions, lectures, etc. on Sunday so people can start things on Monday. The professor could interact and sort of steer the discussion a little more. Some of the discussions were just people posting that they liked the chapter and didn't really progress the discussion at all. (More back-and-forth discussion is more helpful to me than everyone posting individually.)
Improved? I think it was awesome.
Post weekly readings before hand or earlier.
Please see answer for question 24, otherwise, an improvement would be to make this course available during regular semesters it is awesome...oh and maybe add a section about ethics (or ethical violations of the early 1900's) like examples of evil in psychology itself...Great Job! I hope that the University of Hawaii keeps more professors like you!! Thank you!

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
n/a
nothing. She's great. =D
It was a little difficult to take the quizes on Fridays because I felt rushed. Encouraging class participation is good and I think it would be a good idea to consider participation to include student-teacher discussions of the class material outside of class (after class, during instructors office hours, via email, etc.). Some students may find it difficult to say certain things in front of the class but would like to share the material one-on-one with the instructor or the student may have thoughts after class which they would like to share with the instructor. All this should count towards participation in addition to their class participation. It does not necessarily mean it replaces in-class participation. If a student misses a quiz/test there should be opportunity to take a make-up quiz/test (could impose a penalty for make-up such as automatic 10% point deduction).
Can't really think of anything! She did a wonderful job!

22. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
A good variety of topics and it was an enjoyable seminar format. Cherie was always upbeat and I felt like I could speak up freely.
Luckhurst knew the material very well and taught it in an interesting way. I liked the small class setup and the conversations among the students were enlightening. THe films shown in class helped me learn and apply the concepts better. GREAT CLASS!!
Short papers.
Classroom setting was comfortable. The materials was interesting. (Learned new stuff!) The videos and discussions helped with learning. Cherie Luckhurst was very supportive whether in paper or in classroom setting, it made the course fun to be in. It also helped with the learning.
We were able to freely express our thoughts and ideas/opinions. Everyone was open to others comments as well as the instructor who gave good feedback. The videos shown were good examples of what we were studying in class.
I loved the material on the Milgram experiment, Staub's theory on basic human needs, and learning about Enron. I thought the videos that were chosen to supplement the material were great at solidifying the concepts. The videos helped a LOT, especially the ones on Terror Management Theory and Enron. Great class, kept me intrigued and thinking the whole time. Good balance of lecture and discussion, and I liked that she had us research the authors to figure out if they were reliable sources or not. Also, I liked that we were able to write about whichever topics we were interested in because we were able to write passionately without having to worry about whether or not we were "answering the question."
Active discussions.
I loved the video tie-ins. I loved how it was not just boring lectures, it was discussions that were interesting and stimulating. It was very interesting to hear my classmate's opinions and ideas.
I liked that she supplemented videos for our learning to solidify the theories she presented in class. I also enjoyed the opportunity for class discussions because that engages students to become better thinkers.
I liked the videos that were shown in class because it gave a visual dimension to the topics and theories we discussed. I also enjoyed the guest speakers who were invited to speak on specific topics in the class. It was refreshing to hear a perspective related to the theories we were reading. Overall, I really learned to not judge even the "bad" or "good" people that our society easily labels because there are more complex layers that may have influenced the situation and their behavior to do so. I have learned to be critical and sometimes questioning and not be easily assuming. I have also learned about interesting theories that have now shed some light on why humans, in the most ordinary of actions, can turn to that dark side.
23. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
n/a
Discussions, only because I suck at it, but at the same time it really was helpful...
The Friday quiz. A Monday quiz might be less stressful.
Can't think of anything...
I don't like taking quizzes. I'm more of a writing papers type of person.
The fact that some of the things in the book we read were not as interesting as others...but that is not Cherie's fault. Perhaps she could have given us extra handouts that cover the same concept in a more interesting fashion.
I liked and disliked the discussion part of the course. I liked the discussion because what we read in the textbook of the theories we could hear how it was relevant in the class' personal life. I disliked it because I felt that in the readings, based on various interesting theories on good and evil, there was more deeper stuff that could have been discussed. Maybe if there was an activity where each student were to write a question to ask the class it could encourage more discussion apart from personal stories and the instructor's prompt questions.
