13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Know wheres she needs to go during class and what needs to be covered and she covers it. She can settle the room with out much hassle and she knows her stuff terrific to listen to.
fun,friendly and interesting.
She encourages us to not be shy when we did class activities, she made me feel very comfortable she also encourage class participation.
THE BEST
She know how to teach and she considered about international students
She is organized, very clear and takes time to clarify things. She also answers questions and is very encouraging and optimistic.
She encouraged students to participate and to fully indulge ourselves in the learning process of the exercises. She always encouraged students and gave them constructive criticism. She never made anyone feel bad or stupid. She knew the content very well and explained things very clearly.
She's very good at making everyone feel comfortable, especially those whose taking theater for the first time.
Knows the subject area very well and has years of experience in theater so she knows what she's doing.
She is easy to talk to.
She always encouraged us to participate and is always excited to do activities in class.
Her biggest strength I believe is that she knew the subject very well especially since she came from New York doing what she teaches to us and that's theatre/performing arts.
She's bright, intelligent, understanding, and very verstile. She's one of my favorite teachers for the semester. she able to explain the content really well. We were reading a hard book for me to read called "a challenge for the actor" which was really hard to read, but she explained it as if i was in grade school. Not only that but she also very good at making people participate in her class and letting people get on their funky side, which is essential for making a good theatre class. She is also alot of fun and makes the class a fun place to be.
She is fun, and out going. Her class is different and she comes from different perspectivies.
Extremely patient, understanding and always displaying a good humor.
Sammie was really fun and made class feel not so un-comfortable. She made us do things that we normally wouldn't do in front of people. I had alot of fun.
a good actor she knows what shes talking about very active and fun with the students only strict when she needs to be
theater
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

nope, she did a great job teaching theater class.
NOTHING
I can't think of any changes.
none
None at this time.
none
None
Less yoga and more stuff that improves the actors ability to act.
None.
take more control of the class the students get loud
nothing
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By always being there if the student needs to discuss something or go over something with her.
help me in every single concern that I had.
When we needed help she was there to assist us.
THERE FOR US
For example,I am international student and when i couldn't understand some words, she explained to me
She made a sad face and worked things out with people, talked and planned alternatives if neede and helped when we needed it.
She was always available after class to answer any questions and she was available outside of class hours as well. She reminded us of when assignments were due and encouraged us to come to every class. She always reminded us of the things that we needed to do to pass the class.
She encourages everyone to participate.
Asked for updates when and if we miss class.
Hard to explain, but I really feel like she cared.
Every class period she would remind us about the homework that was due soon or if we watched a play that assigned and to make sure to finish the papers following it.
she connected with each student in her own way and works on them seperately. Also when the students were doing their own play she took the time to over look each play and make adjustments to make it better.
She went over assigments and provided reminderes.
She always responded to emails and was always understanding
ask questions just talk to us like we were on the same level
when other classmate bother something, she was hearing about his story seriously
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes. because there is no way you would not have fun in her class.
yes, they will not regrete it..
Most definitely because she is very nice, her class is so much fun, we did alot of working out and getting us to each other that performing in class wasnt that scary especially if your a very shy person like me.
YESSSSSSS!!!!
I strongly recommend Sammis Choy because she is nice and treated students fairly.
DEFINITELY YES!!!
I would recommend Sammie because she is a great acting teacher. Each exercise and activity we did was for a very specific reason and they were all very fun. I learned a lot about acting and also about myself.
I would recommend her class. I didn't think I would like theater because of stage fright, but she made the class really fun.
Yes I would. She knows the subject area very well and makes a safe, fun environment to come out of one's shell which is needed for this class.
Yes. Her class is awesome and I learned alot.
Yes she is an amazing teacher mainly because she is very easy and nice person to talk to and if you have any questions she answers them to the best of her abilities.
Yes, shes a great teacher, a little too much yoga but she's great. If you're looking for a way to escape speech then her class is great alternate course. If you're interested in acting then by all means please go as it will improve your skills in acting,
Yes, shes makes class fun. Made me look forward to coming to class.
Absolutely!
yeah shes really cool and personable and u can tell she has a passion for acting

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She seems to know theater, she is flexible and has good feed back at times.
Sammie's class was one of the best classes I had this semester. She began every class with a physical excersise to focus our minds and prepare us for our hour together. She always has great ideas, creative excercises and encourages us to think hard about character development. She had so much good insight about our scenes and personal acting abilities. It really was a joy to work with her, I feel she tought me a lot!
She has been around long enough to know the industry. She has several tools to share.
she is a good actor. she is a good director also.
Sammie is very knowledgeable about the craft of acting. She has a great way of teaching and getting students to uunderstand and comprehend what she is trying to convey.
She knows her subject very well and she teaches it with amazing quality and is creditable.
is great
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Some new material from theater 221 to 222.
I think the papers we had to write were too long and drawn out. I had to stretch to fill the space and definatly could have gotten my point across in one or two pages.
When a student approaches her with a concern, be truly concerned and not just insist the class curriculum must come first!! Brain storm in order to create a win win situation. Do not act all high and mighty toward the end as if you have the power to decide fate.
nothing to change. maybe the chance to choose our partner for at least one assignement
None
I suggest the she uses more hands on activities especially because it is a 222 level class. Her time management is very poor, we always ran out of time for everything. Everything that she taught in this course was what I already learned in 221. The course felt completely dragged out. I feel like we could have completed everything that we have done within half a semester instead of the whole semester. We did a partner scene, monologue, partner scene again, and a showcase. At level 222, I would have expected moving at a quicker pace and could have completed a scene within a week or two and not a month. Each scene runs for 5 minutes at the most to perform. We could have done a lot more and we didn't need all that time to prepare. Also, I don't like the idea of coming to class just to watch her critique other classmate rehearsing while we sit around and watch and not be able to express our own ideas for them or give them suggestions. She feels that we can learn by listening to her critique our classmates rehearsal but i feel otherwise. I feel like we need to practice more acting instead of sitting around and listening because that should have been done in 221.
maybe some more lessons
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By providing extra credit to those who needed it.
Most of the time...
yes
Sammie was always available to talk with outside of class time and really listened to my concerns.
She asked us if our scenes were going well.
made sure they did there part.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Probably not the course wasn't what I thought it would be.
Yes!! Shes fun, smart and has fresh/interesting tools to assist studenst.
Yes, but be careful if you need to make any changes in the program. If you so need to, make sure to have her full undevided attention and make sure to yell it.
because she knows what she is doing.
Absolutely! Best acting teacher Ive ever had. Full of informative skills.
I would recommend her 221 class but not her 222. I feel that her 222 class could be more effective if she let the students do more acting.
yes she is a strong teacher
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She seems to fall into the same sexual orientation as all theater teachers, to include Perez...
she is a great teacher
She is a great teacher but the way she runs the 222 course must be improved especially for students who have a deep passion for acting.
18. Other comments:
For a beginner class, sort of speak, the production she chose had a scene that was far more sexual than anyone should have been forced to act. It took me over a week to be ok with the scene to include my wife accepting the role...very disturbing. Also, the other students laughed and joked about my role. Last, this has to be confidential and it will be obvious if it is not.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
she would encourage people to participate and made the ;earning atmosphere alot more fun
She was very thoughtful and had deep understanding of the strengths and the weaknesses that each student had. She highly encouraged students to push themselves to the limit, getting out of comfort zone.
Sammie Choy has many strengths! She pushes you forward and encourages you to take it to the next level. She knows how to connect with her students as well as engages us everyday. Also, it was great that she started our day with yoga!
She is very clear in her instruction and makes learning the material fun. The variety of techniques she used to encourage us to take our performances to the next level were very effectiveNone.
Sammie has a great feel for her subject, theater, and I like the way she challenges the students to think for ourselves and also her encouraging us in our group discussions after we have read a chapter to share what we've learned. I really enjoyed learning from Sammie.
She was great at fostering an environment where it was possible to take on any role. Especially through the in-class exercises, she helped us find those starting points for the roles we had, and also helped us tweak them a bit. She was great at helping us to hone in on our characters, making us out to be more believable, instead of just a student presenting memorized lines.
she is very easy to talk to and could relate to the students very well.
Sammie is an outstanding teacher. One of the best at KCC. She spoke clearly and eloquently when teaching and explaining things to us in class. I especially enjoyed her giving us warm ups of yoga in the beginning of class to loosen our nerves to get ready to perform in class and do acting exercises. I think every teacher should do this! Very good idea especially for a morning class. It motivates you and really gets my mind and body ready to learn and perform. Also the way she taught really shows that she has experience in acting and that she has a lot of respect and passion for this class.
She seems to be able to draw out many different qualities in the students and always puts things in ways that I can understand.
Sammie is an energetic, fun teacher. She makes every class interesting.
Sammie kept the lessons fun and I learned a lot!
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
A longer class period :]
i have no complaints
I would not change anything or suggest anything to Sammie the class was great.
Keep the chalk boards away from the mirrors.
None.
none!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she would notice if you were having a bad day and would ask you if everything was ok.
She was always available. Whenever students needed her help, she was there willing to help them.
She would tell us our strengths and what she liked about our scenes or anything that we did, but she was able to gently point out what could be worked on. She wanted us to be our best!
She took into consideration our specific needs. For example: One day a week I was a few minutes late due to work. I informed her at the beginning of the course and she did not penalize me for those tardies. Got to work to pay tuition!
She was open to students individual situations when they arose and allowed time for us(students to take care of them) and kept us informed of what we missed and what assigments we needed to do to catch up.
She created unique in-class exercises that helped us in developing our characters. Whether it was slapping pillows on a table to show how angry the character was supposed to be or becoming a barrier between two partners to show how characters are supposed to communicated/listen to one another, she relied on good devices, I think, to do things related to building one's character.
she gave her all every class
She answered our questions promptly in class and in emails. She always offers us suggestions when we get stuck on a exercise of performing. She is always available to answer any questions that we may have until we understand the subject.
By reminding us about assignments and talking to us about how we are doing in our projects.
Sammie is a true teacher. She relates to students well and encourages them to try as hard as they can.
I had a lot of tardies that brought down my grade and she told me that I needed to do extra credit and it would help a lot.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, because she knows what she is teaching and makes it fun to come to class and learn
Definitely. Especially for those who get anxious when they have to speak or perform in public.
YES. I would definitely recommend her to all who want to try their hand at theater. She is an excellent professor who knows her stuff.
Yes. The class was fun. I enjoyed her teaching style.
Yes, I certainly would. I enjoyed learning from Sammie alot!!! I found her to stimulate our brain cells in a very stimulating way.
Definitely! She will, without a doubt, take you out of your comfort zone, and farther ( in the best way possible! )
yes. i learned alot and it was a pleasureable experience
I would definitely recommend this class to students. Sammie Choy is an excellent teacher. One of my favorite teachers at KCC. You get to do yoga exercises in the beginning of class and learn about acting at an advanced level from someone with a lot of experience, respect and passion for this subject and class.
YES! Because she smiles when she teaches.
I would definitely recommend Sammie to students. She's an awesome teacher!
Yes- I got a lot out of her class and I think other students would too.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I wish I had this class earlier. One of the best professors I've ever had.
I would like to say that she is wonderful and she is definitely in the right profession!
Great job!
I really enjoyed her as person and a teacher, she is a great listener and funny too. I also loved the stretching and breathing exercises before class, as to center ourselves...
she is a great actress
Very cool teacher, excellent tutor.
Thank you!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She's very friendly and has a well-structured class. Every class was something new and interesting.
easy to ask questions and talk to,made things fun, understanding about missing class as long you spoke to her about it.
she made class interesting and fun
She was very clear about the material. Perhaps even more important than that, she was very clear about what she expected from us. She was prepared for each class period with a video or lecture with an accompanying lecture guide and she followed the syllabus to a T.
she is fun and got you involved coz it is very clear she loves what she does
She's an entertaining teacher which is important for students in this day and age. She engages them to think for themselves, and makes the classroom comfortable for abstract thinking. Reading the plays and discussing them is the most fun, because she searches to get everybody's interpretation in. When we read the Tempest she made us do the sound effects for a storm scene and it was really fun.
Personable person showing how theater is around us more then we think.
She is very passionate about the subject and the course that she is teaching, where it makes the class much more interesting and enjoyable.
She has a career in acting so it really helps that a teacher knows from experience. She is very flexible, and tries to make her flexibility work for students. She is very calm and relaxing, and was never afraid to let her know what was on my mind.
she was very organized with what she was teaching and everything seemed to fall into place with the learning prosses.
Major strengths are extensive knowledge of all kinds of theater, inventive methods of teaching, creative assignments, and interesting lectures. There was never a day in class I wasn't fully interested in what was being discussed.
She knew the material well.
She really knows the subject matter, and cares for her students.
Very good at communicating and encouraging her students to do their best and participate.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I wouldn't have minded a little more hands-on acting/directing exercises in class.
none
I enjoyed the class, the beginning was a bit slow but towards the end the class was more enjoyable. I would prefer more hands on things rather and less writing.
i noticed that she would give us some plays to read that sometimes didn't have anything to do with what we are learning.
I can't think of any changes that need to be made to Sammie Choy or the way she teaches the course.
To make the section focused on acting, a little bit longer.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Her office is always easily accessible, and emails are returned promptly.
by talking to them when they asked questions, meeting with students outside of class,
she was very prompt in answering email and she was understanding
She responded to my emails when I sent them to her with questions and she offered extra credit assignments in case you weren't doing so hot grade wise.
more activities
She gave us some slack and was understanding.
She announced extra credit, and when plays and when quizes were due. She also allowed me to take my test earlier then schedule, and was very flexible about it.
she would tell students about extra credit and would always encourage students to come and see her off class hours if we needed to ask questions or anything.
By being available outside of class, by talking with students after class and answering any questions that we had.
By answering all of our questions, and making us answer questions as well.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I learned a lot in this class.
yes she makes it fun to learn and shes easy to work with
yes because she made class interesting and fun
yes. You always know where you stand in that class. She is fair. The course covers a lot of material but it isn't boring.
yes, because it was fun to come to class because it wasn't like class
Definitely, she's an entertaining funny lady and she's not all stuck up with a stick up her butt.
I would definitely recommend her to students because she knows alot about the subject where we learn alot and have fun at the same time.
Definetly, she is very one of the my favorite teachers at my KCC experience. She does not leave you hanging, knows how to help students, especially those who need it. She also never missed a class.
i would because she is very clear on what she teaches.
Yes, I would highly recommend, and have already recommended Sammie Choy to other students. She is an excellent teacher, the best I have had so far at KCC. She's very friendly, knowledgeable, and makes the course work enjoyable.
Yes because she is very enthusiastic about her class.
Yes, I think that she is a really good teacher, and I enjoyed her class very much.
Yes, because not only is she a great teacher, she knows the content very well, and knows how to make it relevant to us as students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Her manner of lecture is also very concise.
i was really glad to have her as my theatre 101 class
I like her
"come with me and u'll be in a world of pure imagination, living there you'll be free if you truly wish to be" willy wonka
I hope to be taking your acting class next semester if it fits in my schedule!
I definitely enjoyed being in her class this semester. She is probably one of the most enjoyble teacher i've had since attending KCC.
I enjoyed her class, and hopefully will attend another theater class.
she can take a joke. and i like that in teachers.
Sammie Choy is a fantastic teacher, I feel very blessed to have been able to be her student.
That I really enjoyed the class!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
helps with anything need to be improved
a very kind individual
encourages participation, not boring
She really cares about teaching you about theater. She tries to make class fun and exciting even for those who don't nessasarily want to go into theater! She tries to make sure that you have a good environment to learn in, even when there are very disruptive students in class!
She was encouraging us to do our best
Her character is like so familiar to any students, so I think everybody will like this class.
Sammie Choy's strengths as a teacher is her knowledge of her subject area, her concern for the students, and she enjoys teaching.
Knows the subject material very well. Very patient for the most part, even when class can be somewhat talkative. Very good input and help for student work in class. Good physical exercises.
Presentation. Communication. Confidence. All three go well together with this theater class. Making students want to learn and participate.
Sammie is able to recognize right away what areas that we need to improve in. She also brings out the best of us onto the stage while coaching us.
She made me appreciate theater and acting.
She interpreted things we read into class excerises. She new how to grab the class's attention.
Sammie is an AWESOME teacher and actor!! She is knowledgeable and passionate about Theater. Sammie also has a holistic approach to teaching and everyone feels included.
She was very clear in telling us what she wanted so there was no way to misunderstand her instructions.
She is very motivating. She is also very approachable and easy to talk with. Sammie is an excellenct teacher.
She is confident in her area of expertise Her personality is very personable She has experience in acting Her ability to coach actors.
very funny. kept everything very interesting.
Sammie brought life to the classroom. We would all get in a circle and start off with stretches and fun exercises, and she would participate with us. She made the class very interesting and fulfilling.
She knows what she is talking about, because she has experience in being in actual theatre, so she also understands that not everyone can do things a certain way and gave us a chance to analyze our own actions and come up with our own reasons why we choose to preform our script in a certain way.
Sammie's major strengths was how well she knew the subject, her use of examples and that the class was just fun. It was probably the most fun I've ever had in a class.
She makes the class fun and always has an objective for each lesson taught.
knoweledgable in subject, made class enjoyable, made it easier to understand the process of acting.
She paid attention while we preformed and made sure the rest of the class was paying attention
She's very outgoing and cheeful. She brings a great atmostphere to each and every class and expects the same from her students. She's down to earth and encoruges the students to try new and differen't things. She's taught me to look at situations in differen't veiws always with an open mind. Sammie is always willing to help, and treats everyone equaly and fairly.
She would take the time to see that every student knew and understood the material in class. She encouraged us to use laulima and to do postings of the class readings and if we ever had any questions.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
push the students, the more the better. they'll rise to the challenge and if they can't they at least tried. everyone in the class wanted to be up on stage, and express themselves, but instead we just did yoga and stretched. At first everyone was extremely excited about the class, but that quickly faded. it went from a form of expressive art, to a class where people just went to hang out, and play around. the class was cool, but i wish i had been pushed more. we didn't start to act until the end of the semester, i feel we should have done that from the beginning of class. last summer i took a class, and it was the best acting class ever. a bond formed between all the students, and we all became like a close family. on day one we shared a little about ourselves, and on day two we were given a few lines, about 5 lines each, and on the third we were on stage and giving it all we had. it was actually very very decent, not great but decent. students intuitively knew to analyze the character and assign it a persona. in this class we waited too long to try that. i say we should be pushed out of the nest, cause thats the only way we'll learn to fly. we should have had simple lines to memorize and tried our best, and then from there we should have been guided by the teacher, so that we would learn in real time what we were to be looking for. i think thats the only and quickest way for someone to learn. to be pushed and if we fail, then we should be guided. the students will pick up at lightening speed, and you'll see what will happen by the end of the semester. you'll have young actors, reaching near professional levels of acting.

I would like to spend more time on yoga. I really enjoyed that part of class.
It was hard to get tickets for 1 of the required plays. To cover that we had to see 2 more additional plays. I dont really think its our fault that we missed the required play as tickets were sold out. So its not really fair to have to see 2 more additional plays. Maybe just 1 more to cover the 1 required one we missed.
It was my first experience to take the theatre class. I am really interested in acting, so I had so much fun in this class.
Allow late registration.
Make the students know who is boss. Don't let them talk during your time of teaching. Not even a little.
Maybe more yoga.
none
I dont have any complaints about her.

None
none.
Maybe if there were any changes that I would like to see is that she shouldn't assign a play for us to watch that sells out quickly and also for her to go over homework thoroughly instead of five minutes of class time.
None.
MOre feedback. After class exercises, I never knew how she felt about what we did....
none.
no, not really any changes necessary.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
one on one help
she reminded us about extra credit opportunities for those who need points to make up
In this class we had very disruptive students who would constantly interupt class. However, she remained clam in the situation and tried to keep teaching those of us who wanted to learn. She always tried her best to try and bring out the actor in us, even those who didn't want to become actors. She always knew how far she could push and would push just a little more to get a bit more out of you, but never to the point that you got fustrated.
She talked to us privately if we were having problems in class
Sammie Choy stays behind after class to talk with anyone who had questions or concerns, and she reminds students of upcoming deadlines.
Gives her focus and patience to her students.
Her office hours are open for students. Seeing students and letting them know what they can improve on. Helping students feel more comfortable in front of an audience.
Sammie pushed us to do our best whether on-stage or off.
She was available to help me out whenever I needed it.
She took the time to answer any questions the sudents had, and she let the other students know that they should respect the other students in rehearsal.
Sammie is always taking time after class to speak to anyone that has questions or concerns. She always has great advice and counsels everyone with their individual personalities in mind.
We have a few special needs students that she was exttremly encouraging with. She made sure they were an active part of the class and not just observers.
She honestly wanted us to do our best she would pay close attention to every students progress and strengths and areas that could use help as well.
She would ask if we were staying on top of our assignments.
She would critique our work and push for improvement. She would also give us opportunities for extra-credit, and she would inform us of any upcoming events and auditions.
She would help us realize what we are doing and why. ANd if we needed help, she would give us her suggestions. Also, we did excersizes in the beginning of the course so that we would all be comfortable acting with eachother.
Sammie showed concern for students by offering a lot of extra credit and always stayed behind in class to answer all of our questions that we had for her.
She makes sure everybody is on the same page. She spent a long while warning everybody at the beginning of the semester about mental and physical dangers of the class. And if somebody gets hurt she always makes sure they're okay.
giving a lot of opportunities to get things done, specifically with the plays
She would take time out to explain to students the material and of what is expected of them in class. She would explain what needed to be done and see that every student understood the requirements.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes fun class and godo teacher
at the current pace the answer would be no. she's nice, great teacher who cares, but students take the class to learn how to act. to get up on stage, and give it all they have, and i don't feel this class provided that. i know it was an intro class, but still a little more would have been nice. not so much the sitting down and analyzing the script, but more of acting it out as best we could and then analyze it from there, that way we would learn in real time, from our mistakes, and understand how to improve the next time
Yes, because she's an AWESOME teacher! =)
Yes, though it is a class that might make you feel uncomfortable, Sammy really tries to make each and every one feel comfortable in performing infront of the class.
Yes I would
Yes, because in theatre class to be friendly to other students is very very important I think, so I am 100% sure she can do it.
I would highly recommend Sammie Choy to anyone interested in theater, who wants a fun, chill class after intensive classes. You have to earn your grade, by arriving on time--docks a lot off on tardiness, seeing the required plays, and completing all work. There is a small amount of homework and she offers loads of extra credit.
Yes, especially for those who want a good feeling and good help for acting. I enjoyed this class and it is one of those classes where you wouldn't want to skip out on.
Yes. This class is fun and the teacher is a lot of fun. Exercises are done to make everyone more comfortable and confident. You get to know your whole class. You have a blast with presenting in front of an audience.
Yes, I would recommend Sammie to other students because I found this course to be very effective for the stage as well as in self discovery.
Yes. It was fun and different.
Yes, she is a great teacher with priceless knowledge.
Yes, her class was fun and enjoyable.
YES!!! I would recommend this class to EVERYONE! one does not need to want to be an "actor" to appreciate this class. A student can get so much out of this class: public speaking, listening to your body and mind, healthy life-styles, seeing theater productions, as well as learning to act-which we all do on a day-to-day basis.
Yes, I would because the class is enjoyable and she's a really great instructor.
absolutely I would recommend Sammie. She is very good at teaching her subject and is an extremly smart person. Even if your interests are somewhere else she will spark them in areas of acting.
Yes because she can help you find out more about yourself she is honest very down to earth and I would like to take her next level class.
yes, because she's a fun teacher to have and she makes the class fun to come to.
If you want to have fun and learn at the same time, I would recommend Sammie Choy.
Sure, she is a good teacher.
I would recommend Sammie Choy to students because this class was really fun and you learn how to act and different aspects of acting.
Yes, because she's a very fun teacher and her class is fun as well. Being a fun class always make learning fun and I learned a lot of things from her class.
yes, same reasons as 13
yes. fun class and I learned alot
Definetly, I would recommend Sammie to anyone interested in acting or even those who aren't really interested in acting. She will definetly show you everything there is to know from streching to having the coruge to get up and perform in front of the entire class.
yes, because she is understanding and tries her best to get to know her students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
shes a good lady and is very great teacher
also a good exercise that i did once is letting the students improvise on stage in real time. i was given an exercise once where we were asked to make an ad selling what ever we wanted. i came up with glasses that allowed you to see any woman as beautiful. i had my partner come up to me, and try to seduce me, but i turned her down. and then the glasses were placed on me and all of a sudden i just couldn't take my eyes off her, and it was i who was then doing the seducing. the catch was that we could not use any words. no words at all only sounds. so we had to be very creative in trying to get a point across to the audience without using words. this was hands down one of my favorite exercises, and some of the people came up with the most interesting things i had ever seen.
Happy person =)
Thank you so much in this semester (spring, 2010).
Thank you for helping me be a little more courageous in front of people especially on stage.
Awesome teacher.
Sammie has really opened me up not only as an actor but as a person as well. Thank u :o)
She did an amazing job with all of her classes.
She is really a wonderful instructor.
overall Sammie is a wonderful teacher and a good person. Students would be lucky to have her.
I think she is a fair kind person who loves her job and doesnt take it lightly.
Awesome job. Keep it up.
I would love to see her in character.
Sammy has been a great teacher who has been very supportive of all of us in her classes. I am taking her advance class next year. I was interested in acting before but she has helped me develop my interest to another level.
I don't know, the play she put together was good and it was to bad there was a budget cut because it most likely would've been better. She made the best out of what she had little of and still made it a good play full of scenes.
She's very nice and fun. Although I took this class for my school requirements, I wouldn't mind taking the next level just for fun.
you have been one of the best professors I had the pleasure to learn from. Thank you for everything and I can't wait to take 222 from you in the somewhat future.
she's a good and understanding teacher.
18. Other comments:
if you don't place an emphasis on your students being professional actors, they'll take any chance they can to fool around, and just try to be silly, and funny on stage, and this was what i saw. mostly everyone stopped taking it serious, and started fooling around. but this is just my opinion. p.s. by serious i don't mean, being mean or angry, but letting the students know what you want to see. and not being nice about it. telling someone to stop being silly is okay, and asking someone to be a serious actor is phenomenal.
I think she is an asset not only to the school, but to her community as well.
I had fun, and I can't wait for the next semester.
i like enjoy with her because she did asking me help for her student class.she is friendly and good teacher.
Class was fun!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is very helpful and honest.
She really wants to see her students excel in the class, and is more than willing to lend suggestions to better us.
She pointed out what we needed to improve and always tried to help us do well.
She knows the subject matter well, and she does an excellent job of caring for the students.
She knows acting!
She was very active in the students' schedule conflicts and very knowledgeable in the subject matter. She was also very helpful.
Knows the content she is teaching
Sammie has amazing way of getting you to understand the expectations of a character you must play. She makes acting seem so effortless with her clear descriptions and directions in class. She made me feel very comfortable and encouraged me to become better at my craft. She is an amazing teacher!
I love this course and would recommend it anyone who enjoys learning in a positive environment. The books are inexpensive but you have to pay for plays especially if you don't see required ones, then the prices add up, but it is all well worth it. Overall a lovely experience with a wonderful instructor.
She shows concern for students and is always available to lend a helping hand.
She knew the subject matter that was being taught and taught it in a very clear and understandable way. She made it fun and gave each student ways on how to better their performance, with an exercise. By doing this, she gave you the opportunity to draw an emotion from something simple.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would have like to have done improvs at the beginning of the semester rather than at the end.
More activities for warm-up.
None!
No changes. It was an excellent course.
required plays in areas that student's feel safer?
Perhaps getting our grades for papers quicker.
It would have been great to do more exercises in class to benefit our way of drawing an emotion from certain experiences.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She showed concern when I mentioned an issue that I was having and she adressed it immediately.
She kept open communication through email and was available to her students during all rehearsal times.
She tries to figure out how she can give us a chance to perform our scenes, and she gives us our grades.
When I had food poisoning, she told me stay home and let me retake any missed assignments or exams I missed
She would be very understanding and accommodate with my schedule when meeting with her for rehearsal.
She was understanding when things could not work out in terms of scheduling for the show, as well as very adjustable according to schedule conflicts. She gave time when needed and helped out whenever asked.
yes
She worked with us one- on -one and encouraged us to go out on auditions.
She encouraged participation from everyone creating a comfortable atmosphere for everyone.
Especially during show crunch time, she scheduled one-on-one appointments with students so that we could benefit from her expertise.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes, because she is absolutely wonderful and I personally have learned alot about myself throughout the course and expanded some abilities I wasn't aware I could expose.
Yes. She was fun and made acting fun!
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I thoroughly enjoyed myself in the class and thought the student showcase was amazingly executed considering the lack of set or production crew. Her comments and suggestions really helped her students do more than well at the final showcase performance. I would definitely take this class again if I could.
I would take a theater class from her again.
She's AWESOME!!!
It was a really good course with a really good instructor.
It would be nice to see her perform in a play. She is a great teacher, and inspiring.
She is a wonderful teacher. Her organization, hospitality, and devotion throughout the show case proved she was very oriented and determined to make everything go well, and it did, we had a great show and everyone had fun.

nothin at all. great course.
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
The instructor encouraged students to do extra credit assignments whether or not they were or weren't doing well in the course.
listening to students, inviting them to office hours to talk about their grades and what not
making sure we stayed on track to succeed
She helped students out by asking them to see her in her office if they needed help. Also, during class, she was able to help with any questions.
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I would because this instructor provides a good atmosphere in the class, i always looked forward to going to this class each week.
keep the lectures shorter for future classes and make more group projects to keep everbody interested
yes i would recommend this teacher to other students. i thought this course was fun. she made it interestin, and shes' really patient.
Yes, I would because she is just a good instructor overall. Her class is good because you learn and also are able to have fun. It is theatre class of course so having fun and learning at the same time is good.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Her involvement with the students is very good. She engages herself with us and really helps us to understand the subject that she is so passionate about. Though, she may give exams or quizzes, I have learned a lot and enjoyed what she has taught me about Theater. She makes learning about theater very exciting with hands on acitivites and a great personality!
everything.
Very encouraging!
she makes me smile
-good attitude -
sammie had previous experience in scting, so she knew good warm-up and acting techniques. She made the class very fun.
The instructor was able to engage the class as a whole and as individuals. She was very good at making each student feel comfortable in any situation. She offered constructive criticism and constructive praise.
Professor Choy maintained a positive attitude to encourage students to participate in class activities. Theater exercises for beginners can be awkward given that they tap into emotional and physical muscles that are yet untrained. I felt comfortable doing so in Professor Choy's class. On several occasions, I wrote to Professor Choy about my individual endeavors influenced by the lessons in her class, to which she always replied promptly and gave positive feedback.
She was awesome at getting people excited about class and activities.

none
give us more sources or websites or something for finding scenes
Maybe to do a little less yoga? Some of the exercises were hard! Or to never have students see a Pinter play again? I didn't like it!
More handouts and/or use of online resources would be helpful.
None. Well, no tug of waR. LOL
19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always answered questions and helped us with our final scenes. She gives specific and clear advice to improve our acting skills.
if something was wrong or something came up, she came to a compromise to help
She was able to accomodate students who needed help, and she was always available when we needed her.
It seemed like the instructor would take extra care to personally greet students who had missed a class meeting. This was important to me because it is hard to get back into the swing of things after missing a class; shyness and uncertainty begin to creep back in after time away.
Professor Choy learned everyone's names quickly and maintained a personal connection with them in class. She encouraged each individual member of the class to contribute to the whole via participation in activities. I felt she did so in a personable and sincere manner.
She was very encouraging and very accomodating.
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, she is a passionate teacher who encourages her students to do well. Though, she is easy and student love that about many teachers, I would recommend her as an instructor because not only is she passionate, but her techniques in teaching are taken very well to students. She knows how to engage them and really open up her students to acting.
Of course! Fun teacher and you learn a lot.
Yes, because she is a wonderful teacher. I had a lot of fun learning in this class.
Yes, I would. She is a fun teacher, and does activties that are fun, but also relate to acting.
Yes, I would recommend this instructor. I feel that this course has given me confidence, I enjoyed the camaraderie of my classmates, and the instructor requires nothing more taxing than attendance and effort.
Yes, in addition to her teaching style, I feel Professor Choy has a wealth of knowledge from her background as a talented actress in San Francisco that serves as a resource for those interested in pursuing theater further. Professor Choy also comes with many local contacts in the theater world that can provide performance opportunity for students. For extra credit, we were encouraged to attend these performances, which gave an opportunity to meet professionals in the theater field. Professor Choy has previous experience teaching in other unversities and it shows in her variety of teaching strategies.
Yes, she's probably the most interesting and good humored teacher I've had in my life.
21. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She's AWESOME!
Professor Choy helped me pick out classes for the spring semester to continue my study of theater as related to modeling endeavors. She made sure that I am aware of how to continue growing as a new actor in a personal, meaningful way.
She rocks the casbah!

26. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Having different hands on activities on different parts of acting.
everything.
I liked all the fun exercises we do before class and all the fun activities we get to during class.
the activities, the preparation for every day to get into the creative zone
I loved the acting bits, and the fun games she did.
I liked the warm-up exercises, both physical and mental; I liked brainstorming entrances and exits; I liked composing and performing physical business for a character; I liked writing beats and attributing desires to characters.
Yoga meditative training and group exercises.
I think the trust building activities were awesome.
27. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Writing papers, but what students doesn't.
none
I didn't like the yoga. I have horrible balance.
I didn't like the exercise where we had to beg or bludgeon our way out of a circle, and I did not like playing tug-of-war. I didn't like creating a short, wordless scene with physical business, but that was because my partner didn't take it seriously.
Attending the Kumu Kahua Theater plays. The assignment was insightful, but I did not care for the plays we were encouraged to watch.
Tug of War. LoL
