13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I think it's the interaction he has with the students. He's a professor that is easily to get along and creates a comfortable environment for students to learn.
I like how the way he teaches the course lesson is very detailed and how he knows this course very well.
He expressed concern for his students during the final portfolio.
Reid didn't pick a side to a subject we talked about; he clearly knew a lot about both sides of the problem and let us come up with the ideas.
He would give good advices and help every student as much as he could.
Reid Sunahara's major strengths as a teacher was being able to teach concepts that are really essential for the next course. The concepts taught were a bit challenging, but were caught on quickly after process assignments and more clarifications.
He talks clearly and is on topic all the time.
His major strengths as a teacher is that he is very knowledgeable of the subject. I can ask a question and he will actually know what I am talking about with no doubt. He is always available if I need help and answers my questions in a timely matter through email. He actually takes his time making sure I understand everything. He tries to make the class not as boring with his random speeches. I have no words to express how much he has done for me; however, I have learned a lot from his class that I do not think other professors would have taught me. I'm glad I chose himn as my professor.
Reid Sunahara's major strengths as a teacher is that he knows what he is doing, he offers many opportunities to try and get help, and he is not a boring person. In class he gives as much help as you need and you can ask as many questions as you like.
Reid Sunahara knew what he was talking about and was able to explain the assignment in detail. His tesching atmosphere for learning I would say was excelllent because he didnt make me fell stupid if I said a wrong answer. He is also able to help the students complete and understand what was needed to be done.
His strength as a teacher is having to make the students think about things differently. He encourages the students to participate in the classroom discussions. He would answer any question a student may have, and answer it in a way that the student can understand it.
Come out with best examples to to show what the work are to students.
Reid Sunahara's major strengths as a teacher is that he knew a lot about the subject and he presented it in a very organized and clear manner.
REid Sunuhara's major strength as a teacher is that he knew alot bout teaching english.
Explaining complicated assignments for students to understand.
Professor Sunahara's major strength is that he knows the course subject by memory and he doesn't need a book to teach the class. He explains the course material thoroughly in a timely manor, that sets the student for success with their essay's.
Mr. Sunahara in my opinion is a very responsible and dedicated english teacher. He does allot to help his students become better writers, responsible and independent college students, and to help them pass their english class. He always encourage help outside of class and was always available for tutoring. He is a patient and coaching teacher and throughout your struggles in college life and classroom. He will do everything to help you improve but at the sametime you have to do your part and try to improve yourself as well.
Mr. Reid Sunahara is a great teacher because he is well experienced in his field of study. I would get confused at many times during this course and he would always find how to explain the material in a way of relating it to my perspective.
Reid Sunahara's major strength as a teacher is that he teaches the lessons very well. Reid sets up a power point for the class to see, which is organized and clear to read. Another major strength Reid demonstrates is that he gets the class involved by having competitions in class and allows the students to answer questions. Reid is very knowledgeable, so he gives the students examples of the concepts that we do not understand. Reid also communicates well with the students. Reid also teaches the basics of writing which the students will need to know in the future.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
There shouldn't be any changes. The way he teaches us now pushes us to do better and finish all of our work on time.
Nothing, the class is good, well organized and teaches a lot of material.
None.
The changes I would suggest is maybe taking more time to explain the concepts because it felt a little confusing transitioning from one concept to the next.
I do not have any suggestions to give to Mr. Sunahara
n/a
The only change I would suggest is giving out the easy essays to do first and teaching us simpler steps to getting the essays done before the more difficult ways. It was a little bit of a challenge if you didn't understand the hard steps in the beginning because later on when teaching us the easier steps we would still be stuck and lost on the hard ones.
I would say he needs to change anything becuase I felt that he was an excelent teacher. Reid Knows what he needs to teach and how t teach it.
I don't have any suggestions for Reid Sunahara.
I personally have no suggestions for Reid. The class is very well organized.
Work one on one with the students.
There is no changes for Professor Sunahara to make.
I think Mr. Sunahara is doing an excellent job as a college english professor and i don't think any changes are necessary in my opinion.
None.
I would suggest for Mr. Reid Sunahara to teach both 22 and 100 acclerated classes himself so that it is more clear for students.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He would email his students that didn't show up to class.
He constantly reminds his students that if they need any questions or clarifications about writing the essays or whatsoever to always approach him. During class he also approaches his students individually asking if they need help or if they understand what they are doing.
He made time to talk with each of us individually about our essays. He also comes over to tables to help during any of our in class assignments.
Reid gave back comments, feedback, and progress reports.
He would ask students questions and explain things in the best way he could and give examples.
Reid Sunahara showed concern for students by taking time to explain more on assignments when it wasn't too clear. He explained it clear enough individually so that it was understandable and would be assured that the assignment can be done.
.
He showed concern for students when their grades were low but trying to get them to at least do the work. He tries to get the lazy students to drop his class because he knows they wouldnt be able to catch up.When students need help he sets up a time where he and the student are both available.
He show a lot of concern about us. If he thought we were struggling and needed more help, he would tell us to make a appointment with him and get help. Also he would even tell us if we ever needed help to just ask or make an appoinment for a conference.
He would show concern the students by asking for reassurance if the student knows what is needed to be done. He gave me a progress report of how I was doing in class, and told me that If I didn't understand something, I should ask questions. He would allow students to have a conference with him, if the student needs it.
Reid Sunahara show concern for students by checking on how far have the student gotten on the paper work promptly. Also encourage students to have a conference if students have a problems on work.
Reid showed his concern for students by having the students email him if we had any questions and he would quickly reply back. So it was very easy to get feedback from him or any other unanswered questions we had.
He shows concern for students by making us email him of what status are on. Also, he give us feedback on our works.
He would ask questions about other students who are absent.
Professor Sunahara will do one on one conversations outside the classroom to see how he could help out the students on their essays. Also he made himself available for conferences.
Yes Mr.Sunahara does show allot of concern for his english students. He always encourages his students to give him drafts of work so he can give you feedback to improve your essay and your grade. I give him allot of credit for someone to read that many essays in a certain time period and at the sametime giving detail feedback for every paragraph. His communcation with e-mail is always precise and he does his best to keep a strong communication of whats going on in class and if there is anything he can do to improve the class atmosphere.
Reid Sunahara always asked if I needed help when he could tell I wasn't getting the particular assignment, I had conferencfed with him sometimes and it helped me understand a whole lot better.
Reid Sunahara showed concern for the students by allowing us to set up a conference with him. He also helps us with any question we had.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because you would really learn something about writing good essays. You wouldn't doubt that you didn't learn anything from him because he wants to make sure that all his students pass with the understanding and skill of what he taught and that he would be sure that his students are well prepared enough for higher english courses or other courses.
Yes, because he pushes you to do better and actually cares if you pass or fail the class.
Yes, because class is interesting through his style of teaching.
Yes because he helps out the students when they ask for it.
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to students because his concepts are considerable for English 100 and he makes his lessons interesting.
Yes He is an easy going teacher.
Yes of course, he is very personable and easy to talk to. He sacrifices his free time to help you if you ask for it. Although, if you are lazy do not take him class because you will have a hard time catching up. it amy seem like a lot of work which it is but you learn something from it as a writer if you try and ask for help. If he is not available he apologizes and tries to set up another day where we can meet even with his busy schedule. With emails, he tries to answer it in a timely manner. only thing is if you are lazy as i stated before do not take his class otherwise do it you will learn a lot aboout life and writing.
Yes, i would recommend him to other students. I would recommend him to other students because you will learn a lot and he is a great teacher. He helps you when you ask or if you need and the things he makes us do is possible.
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to other students because of the way he teaches. In his class I was able to learn a different way in writting that to me, is easier. My essays now are more oraganized and flow better than my essay in high school.
Yes, I do recommend him to other students. Though, the way he teaches may not be easily to be grasped, he helps the students to ease their way into new things. He would help the student in any way so that student is back on track.
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to students because he teaches students with humor for the class not being boring.
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to other students because he is a professor that really knows the subject and who will help you with anything you need.
Yes i would because he actually makes student to be on the task, even though his class is difficult.
Yes, really playful and makes students feel comfortable to interact with each other.
Yes, I would recommend Professor Sunahara to students, because he teaches the student things that he didn't know before.
Yes i would recommend Mr.Sunahara to students because of his commitment and he is a approachable person to talk to during class and during tutoring sessions.
Yes I would reccomened Mr. Reid Sunahara to other students. As being my first semester at college I felt that this class has prepared my academic writting. Overall he is a great teacher and well rounded which made the class a better experience.
Yes, I recommend Reid Sunahara to students because he gives power points which are clear. The lessons, simulations, and his process for the class helps with everything in the end. Reid is straight up with the class, tells the students the truth about how they are doing. Reid is cool and knows when to switch from teacher to friend and from serious to chill. Reid also gives the students tips and short cuts to finishing assignments on time. Reid has a lot of experience and very knowledgeable. Basically, if the students do their part then Reid will do his. If the student puts effort into school then Reid will do the same.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is very helpful while we do our portfolios, he gives us information we would need to put in our portfolios. He also gives good reviews and comments to help us improve our final essay to get a better grade.
None.
Reid Sunahara is a really nice teacher who takes his time to help students out to assure they pass a class. He's really easy to talk to when you need help on an assignment, and his lessons are really enjoyable.

I really enjoyed your class even though I struggled in it a bit. I learned a lot and had a great experience being in this class.
He's not like that other teachers that make you feel intimidated. It was easy to talk to him if we had a any questions about an assignment. he knows when to joke around and when to get serious.
Having him as a english 22 professor helped me gain an insight of how english 100 would be. Though his course may be hard, it helped me better myself in writing.
I would like to say thank you because this class really showed me the in depth of writing a paper rather than just high school. Although due dates were somewhat close to each other, it still pushed me to get it done in time and get on to the next essay.
Reid Sunuhara is a cool teacher. When teaching, he is very focus and he knows what his talking about.
Really fun class! makes assignments much easier than it is for students
Thank you Mr. Reid Sunahara for all your help and hard work throughout the semester it was nice having you as a english teacher.
He is very helpful teacher. Always he tells us " If you have questions or need help, e-mail me or come to see me at...".
Mr. Reid Sunahara contributes greatly to the KCC staff!
Overall Reid is an awesome teacher.

If I can, I want to learn from him again.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Professional Communicates well Always on time for class Open to feedback Kept it simple
his down to earth personality when teaching and his teaching method. I learned a lot in his class.
Reid's strengths were explaining writing much clearer with good examples and easy words to follow, breaks down the concepts of writing in Powerpoint slides up in the screen viewer, and makes it easy for everyone to understand the assignment and is a very nice guy.
Professor Sunahara is a great teacher! He explains everything in a very clear and easy to understand manner. He is open to students outside of the class by eitehr scheduling an appointment or via txts and emails. I have enjoyed this class and learned a lot of new things. Keep up the good job.
He is very knowledgeable in his field and is able to bring my inner writer out. He has inspired me to be and do my best in school.
Reid is without a doubt super knowledgeable. I think my fondest memory of this class with Reid was when he broke down the pidgin language and explained how pidgin can be grammatical (even though grammatical pidgin should be an oxymoron). It was enlightening and refreshing to see a local educated guy defend a culture/language he grew up with using academics. Reid is above and beyond teaching English 100, and I felt as though he should be teaching English in the 400 series.
He is well-rounded and he makes English fun and interesting.
Clear straight to the point. Nice person
Mr. Reid Sunahara is excellent at giving lectures. He is very intellectual, provides great feedback, and really teaches the material in depth. He brought up interesting ideas and topics, and I always enjoyed this class and his humor. I never felt like something was unclear, or too hard. He completely geared the students up for what they were supposed to do! Great first Professor :)
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
noting much
No changes
N/A the class is perfect as it is.
I can not think of any changes that need to be made.
I would suggest to Reid that he tone the expectations down. I feel like this is only English 100, but the expectations of his English 100 is the expectations of English 2 or 3 hundred something. Maybe it's a good thing though. When someone learns a language the best way to learn the language is immersion into the language and culture. Complete immersion seems difficult at first, and hard to grasp, but eventually that person becomes fluent. That's how I felt this class was. Some people are not good at dealing with "immersion" and they may drop the class, retaliate, give up on assignments and so on. I took English 100 before from another professor, but had to drop because of my job, and now that I have taken Reid's English 100, I can make a comparison. Reid's class is 5 times harder and 10 times more expecting of the student.
None
I wouldn't suggest anything! He is an exceptional professor.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
If you wanted him to look at your paper he said to email it too him and he would provide feedback and email it to him.
expresses his concern from his previous classes mistakes to us to try and improve our essays and overall work.
Reid gives a class course working schedule of what upcoming assignments, quizzes, tests, and portfolios to be ready for.
Professor Sunahara explaned things if students have trouble understanding, he always asks if everyone understands. Once he even scheduled mandatory private sessions during which he had discussed our papers.
He offers to meet with students upon request and to help work through any difficulties a student may have.
he always help and courage students inside or out class
Professor Sunahara set up one on one meetings with us to help up through, what I think was the hardest paper.
Reid's best concern for students was how he made himself extremely available to the students. He gave out his email, had a drop box system, where he could check up on assignments, and also gave out his cell phone number. I'm not sure how many students accessed these(I didn't), but the access was there and it was impressive. Reid wasn't too strict on deadlines, and if you were missing something in assignments that was relatively minor he would say bring it in tomorrow. Instead of just saying sorry to the student and taking whatever they had, he gave the students a chance to redeem themselves when the effort was put in.
He always emails back promptly and offers help when ask.
Talks to them after class. Shows great repore to students.
He would talk to students one on one, be available to talk whenever you needed via email, text, meeting, etc., provide strong feedback and criticism on papers, and would fully explain/include a rubric for all assignments.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. He teaches you a writing process that you can understand and use when you complete his class.
yes, although the work is hard, the learning experience from this class is worth it.
I admit the new concepts of writing that was taught to me were hard at first, but you'll get adjust to it in time throughout the summer session.
Yes, great teacher definetely would recommend to other students. Very knowledgeable about his field, discusses and explains things from different perspectives and points of view.
You bet I would recommend him, in fact I would strongly suggest to anyone needing English, to take his class.
yes...he is a good professor... he teach new things
Professor Sunahara is easy to talk to and speaks to students in a way that is understandable. If ever there were questions he did a great job trying to explain if not linguistically then visually. In this class your not just being told to write papers but being guided to think differntly. I would recommend this class to other students becuase I feel like they would get their moneys worth.
Yes, and I already have. Work, assignment, and task wise, Reid is very hard to deal with because his expectations are high, but the learning curve is exponential. Reid hurls the students into the world of academics, and explains how the professionals do it. No other teacher before that I have ever experienced brought me into that world. It's a student cultural shock to be thrown into that world, but how else can someone be exposed to that?
Yes, definitely.
yes, he is a good instruct. He is always willing to help out.
I would absolutely recommend Reid Sunahara to other students, in fact I already have. I would recommend him because he was extremely clear, concise, organized, friendly, and a very helpful Professor.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I like coming to his class to learn new writing skills. I never missed a day. His class was enjoyable to come to.

Nothing
Overall a great teacher.
I hope to be lucky enough to have more Professor that teach like Professor Sunahara.I feel privileged to have had him for English. I have never in all my years in school, liked English until being in his course. I had him for English 22 last semester and because I will be transferring to HCC in the Fall, I found out he was teaching English 100 so I had to take his course.Even though his English 100 class was in the summer and I knew the pace would be crazy, I would not have taken anyone elses course.
He has a weird/interesting/fascinating way of teaching life to the students through an English class. It's easy to see that he strives to stand out above and beyond other professors. I would be interested to know what other professors think about Reid. My guess would be that he has a lot of haters. Everyone that strives to go above and beyond the norm has haters, and I'm sure Reid has a lot.
nothing
I would like to say that Reid Sunahara is way better than any English teacher I have had before, and that is coming from someone who has attended numerous prestigious private and public schools in Hawaii and Texas.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His ability to connect with his students.
He presented a tough course but I have benefited from his challenge to me and my fellow classmates. I have grown personally and I feel confident in my writing abilities since taking his English 100 course. Thanks Professor Sunahara!
He is passionate about student getting more out of The coarse than, the basics
The best at what he do. Very compassion about his teaching. Easy to talk to when in doubt about my work.
He knows all the high standards for writing a paper.
In class he explains things very clear and makes it easy for students to understand want he's trying to teach.
he knew the subject very well, and demonstrating a variety of ways to complete the assignment. Ways that we could choose, so we would do and finish the work
Reid gives his students the real deal criticism
please see comments section of ENG 22 class
his ability to draw the attention of his students...and willingness to help students inside of class and out
Professor Sunahara, as a teacher he is highly educated about the subject that he is teaching. He gets to the point and explains to his students the things that he feels a student will find hard to complete in this course.
Reid has a strong personality. I like his teaching style.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
To remember is considered a freshman English class. The students have other classes assignments, jobs, etc.
None.
None.
none.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By answering any questions or concerns the students had within the class.
This course was online but Professor Sunahara meet with me and others personally if we needed additional direction in the course.
Keep checking and making sure to communicate and with the students
By talking to the student telling them what they need to fix and he encourages them to ask for help.
If we ever had any questions that concerned english he was always their to help me understand what i had to change.
always made himself available, by opening his office if we wanted a meeting with him to discuss grades or help in papers.
He barely ever left students questions unanswered
Professor Sunahara showed his concern for his students by making student teacher conference's to help the student with whatever he or she needed. Also to discuss the studen's grade and what he or she needs to do to successfully complete this course.
Reid always showed his concerns for students by encouraging us. Not once did he put us down. He lets us know that whenever we have a hard time understanding anything, its best to ask questions.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His lectures feel more like a conversation, students are well connected and focused when he speaks. The semester was well organized and lessons build up on each other. A student may look back, but lessons kept a students mind pointing foward.
Reid Sunahara communicated very well to the class. My favorite part of the class is the steps. I like that he broke down the steps for each assignment it really help me learn to not be overwhelmed and get the work down step by step.
Professor Sunahara is a S.M.E. on the subject of English. He answers every question clearly and in a way which anyone can understand. Any question was responded back with full feedback.
Mr. Sunahara's major strength as a teacher was that he gave very good examples for explaining the lessons, by looking at it in real life perspective. One example that he did was on the rhetoric lesson. He talked about how writers have to be careful on what words they choose since that could alter the readers' emotion and characteristic about him/her.
he loved to help me as a student, he was a amazing teachers because he wanted you to succeed as a student and he talked to you in your language!
That he cares, genuinely for his students and push them to learn.
Reid Sunahara major stregnth was that he knew what he was talking about and he could explain to us in ways where his students can understand.
he is a well outspoken educator and explains every assignment in details so we understand the process of doing the work. He makes sure everyone is on the same page and if i don't understand anything in class sometimes i just ask. He is also clear on everything and provides examples on the projector. i see confidence in Reid and he is not only called a professor, but a coach as well. A coach that will teach proper grammar, fragments, run-ons, and subject verb agreement. Also teaching the right way of doing citations.
knowing the subject very well.
Reid Sunahara is very informative when explaining things in class. He goes over them very clearly and makes sure that we understand them. If we have any questions we can ask him and he'll try to explain it in a different, more clearer way.
He knows what he is teaching to the class and he knows when there is something missing in on your paper, he can tell if you did not explain well and he knows how to help you to fix it. He is quick at returning emails back to us students. He knows a lot about writing and its standards.
He was good in explaining on how for make our essays an A paper.
Professor Sunahara as a teacher he knows what he wants from his students. He is a teacher that gets straight to the point and will explain what he feels will trouble the student.
Reid Sunahara was not like any teacher I ever had. Reid was always organized with powerpoints ready to teach his class. One of his biggest strengths was his honesty and sometimes his criticism was a little too honest but thats what made him stand out from the rest of the teachers I've had through my first and second semester.
Reid seem to be informative in his teaching, he incorporate video's, power points and verbally gives examples in his teaching so we understand it better. Reid demonstrate strong eye contact with his students when he is lecturing that is his way of knowing which student understand what he is saying. By writing daily short essays in class and rewriting rough drafts had help me in my writing skill. Reid is an excellent teacher that cares about what he teaches.
He isn't only a teacher but he also acts as a mentor. He makes sure that everyone is on the same page has him (in terms of the learning objective) and he will spend extra time on you if there needs be.
Reid's major strength as a teacher is distributing out to the students of what they are learning. Everyone has a different level of learning. Reid did a good job on getting the idea of whats being taught to his students.
He makes class intresting and draws attention to what he tying to teach
Reid has a very strong personality. He knows how to deal with students very well. Even if a student isn't so bright he still encourages the student to do their best. He is also very helpful. He let's us know that whenever we have questions about anything, we can come to home for help.
Very knowledgable, patient and understanding, always willing to help a student who need extra help with assignments. He encouraged me to try hard and do my best. He was always available if students needed to meet him before/after classtime.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
No changes
None.
Reid Sunahara should spend more time on how to make a well organize essay outline that students must follow. Since I noticed on my previous essay, that its very disorganized with no thesis statement or body to connect my points or claim.
NONE
No changes at all. Clear on every thing he says.
none.
None.
None, the way he teaches and runs the class is good.
theres nothing i would like to change. He's good in teaching.
I feel that his class was so well organized that every assignment we did in and outside of class fit to the our pace of learning.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He shown concern for students by the about of time he gives for his students, in and out of class. Student were able to schedule a meeting with him any time during the week or even right after class.
he would talk to the student about the assignment
By grading our papers strictly and letting us know our errors in each of our paper.
He reminds students the due dates of the rough draft and final draft of the essay. If he see any of the students perplex, he ask if they have any questions. Also, he asks students if they turn in their assignments or essay on the previous class period, which not many instructors do that in college.
he set up concern meetings for students who needed help.
Making time to meet and discuss things.
He ask his students if we understood whathe was trying to teach. Made confrences for students in need of help with essays.
he involves every student to make sure we understand.
open his office for help.
He shows it by helping students when ever then need help.
Mr Sunahara showed concern for us by asking us everyday how are our papers coming along and what do we need help with. He also comes to class on time showing that he cares for us and that he wants to teach us.
He tells you upfront that you need to make changes to your paper. He knows what he wrote when giving feedback on your paper.
If we need help, we can see him after class or email him.
Professor Sunahara showed his concern for his students by making student teacher conference's to help the student with whatever he or she needed. Also to discuss the studen's grade and what he or she needs to do to successfully complete this course.
Reid always made sure his students were taken care of. He gave us his phone number and email whenever we had questions to ask him outside of class. Reid would schedule one on one with him appointments outside of the classroom to make sure if we understood what we had to do with our essays. Everyone in our class knew that Reid had a tight schedule and always made time for his students after class.
He made was available at all times out of class whether thru email or a phone call.
He gave the students the opportunity to seek extra help and also guided us towards addition help if need be, and never talked down on any of his students.
Reid was available for his students outside of class to discuss about assignments students didn't understand and needed help on. He'd go over things again to help refresh students mind and for the students to understand it more.
he always told students if they need any help they can email him or set up meetings wit him
Reid showed his concerns for us students by always encouraging us and giving us feedback when it was necessary.
All I can say is...You could really tell that he was concerned, and that he cared about his class.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, if a student was to take his class, they will learn more than English but life lessons and a little more about themselves.
Yes, absolutely he is able to teach and break down the objectives. I learned more in this class then the three years spent in high school.
Yes, although a strict professor, he is very professional in the way he teaches. Which is exactly how a college professor should act.
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to students, especially local students. He one of those local teachers were you can just talk pigeon with him and the whole classroom. So if you feel comfortable talking pigeon since thats the only better alternative way for you to explain your problem clearly. Then by all means sign up for his class.
yes because reid was da best english teacher i had in my life
Yes I would, because before this I didn't like English and now I do.
Yes because he is way understandable and easy to understand.
absolutely! because taking Reid as your instructor, you will gain knowledge even if your grade is not 100% that you put in, but you are going to learn a lot.
yes. he's cool and his work is tough but if you listen and attend class, you can do it.
Yes i would recommend Reid to other students. He explains things well, gives good feedback and helps when ever students need help.
I would deff recommend Mr Sunahara to another student. He is very organzied and makes the class enjoyable and you really do learn alot from him and part of his teaching rubs off on you If they want to learn ideas and be able to think critcally then he is the professor for you.
Yes, because he is a knowledgeable teacher that is very cool.
Yes, i would recommend him to students because he show concern and also hes good in teachin.
For an accelerated course I would recommend this Professor. He does not go by quickly in this course and is very understanding to students in his class.
I would recommend Reid for future students that want to take his class because he make students understand why english is important and a good strength to have. If they are students who want honesty in a teacher and is someone who is willing to apply themselves without fooling around then Sunahara is their teacher to take.
Definitely
Yes, he is the subject matter expert.
I would recommend Reid because he is a good instructor. He knows how to explain his lessons well that all students understand what is expected. He is always available for any students concern.
yes he is a very good teacher
Yes, because you learn a lot from his class.
Yes! I definitely would recommend him to others. He is a very good teacher...Probably the best I have had in the four semesters I attended at KCC
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Awesome, supportive, helpful, understandable, clear, always making sure class understands and ALWAYS encourages questions
None.
I like his opinion about college degree and success. That both of them doesn't correlate with each other. If you have a bachelor degree or a master degree, it doesn't mean you'll be successful in life. One example that support his claim was about Steve Jobs, who was the creator of the famous Apple company. He never earn any college degree or took any computer science courses but still he came out very successful in life because of his curiosity and motivation to do something new.
NONE
I wish there were more professors like him, he's serious, he's firm but he's fair.
very helpful and sometimes funny.
This is my very first english class and i'm glad i had him as a teacher. He explained everything to me so i would understand. I would recommend him to any first years student.
He is cool!
Nothing else.
I enjoyed having him as a teacher because unlike other professors, Reid connects to his students by sharing his expiriences with the class and is something that made us feel comfortable with him and even with the rest of our classmates.
nt
He is a good instructor.
very goood sense of humour

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Reid was really knowledgeable about what he had teached us in class. He graded all our assignments fairly and helped us out alot. He would go the extra step to make sure that we get a good grade in his class. He was also really funny and knew how to kept the class fun.
Teaching how to write an essay.
Actually, my impression was that he explained every single details...He explains what to do what not to do..
He knows his subject area. He has an organized lesson plan for the whole semester.
He engages the students and encourages them to think outside the box. He makes topics relatable and gives real world examples for students to easily comprehend.
He makes teaching fun and more interactive than other teachers. He is more laid back.
Strengths: - Effective Teaching Style - Activity based learning - Not being writing intensive - Makes sure each student is passing or having them withdraw
hes know what hes doing and he knows how to teach.
He knows how to keep the class focused and awake because he makes the lectures fun and able to understand
He puts his students first and he goes well in depth with his assignments. He gives students good feedbacks and has a very excellent sense of humor. He's pretty much a very cool teacher. He makes writing essays way easier than what we learned in high school.
Teaching the subject in a different way to understand.
His major strengths were being able to help us understand the work that we did. He made us understand it in a way that we all can relate. If we didn't understand it, he tried his best to create an example to help us understand. Another strength he had was motivating us.
Reid Sunahara knows the subject very well.
Hes really personable. he was able to get corrected papers out in a timely manner. the class was very informative in what needed to be in each paper.
He spoke with a good volume so that everyone in the class could hear the lesson he was teaching. He also came up with good small activities that helped us to learn the main objective
He is a nice person and also a cool person. Even though being older he understands us as students and can relate. Always keeping a cool head and did things to help us out that i never seen other teachers do before like giving us an audio feed back on our paper not just written corrections.
he takes the time out of class to meet with students and gives one on one advice which is helpful and useful and is beneficial. he definitely knows what he's talking about, and uses past experiences as examples
He knew what he was talking about and knew how to help students understand better.
-confident -knowledge -helpful
Mr Sunahara's strenghts is that he goes in when teching his lessons. He explains the lessons thouroughly and makes sure that the students understand the subject fully.
Very activity based teaching Explains subject well so students understand
He makes sure that every student receive adequate guidance when writing essays. He is patient to check every work that students have for the class.
Knows the material. Encourages students to engage.
He knows the subject area and he is a good teacher.
really cares about students, explains really clearly
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
He should remind students what is due in the next class...n_n
I suggest that he doesn't push back due dates as much.
Give examples of work that relates to papers current students are assigned. It helps to see what other students write about the same subject to get better ideas if I'm stuck.
His grading methods of passing or failing the course by the one assignement, the portfolio whether you pass or fail it added pressure.
Nothing hes a great teacher overall
I suggest you give us easier essays! LOL naw, he's all good. I like him, he's really cool
I suggest no changes because i believe that his teaching methods are good enough for me and i learned a lot in his class.
I don't have any changes about the class but i have to say it's a very challenging. All I suggest is more time to finish assignments.
i don't have any suggestions.
I have no suggestions for change to his class
teach English 100 classes because he is a great teacher and i am bummed to know the only classes he offers are the English 100 online courses
the class was well structured, however the class had to change course a few times, in the future the class will stay on its set course, seeing as this particular class was the experiment and is a combined class.

Should make more time to revise papers.
It will be nice if he make more time for the last essay. i know its just a reflection writing but having more time to have him and classmates edit paper before due date will help the students create excellent final draft.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Reid would always be willing to help students in class or out of class. He would always be revising peoples essays and helping them get the better grade. If people were not doing good in his class he would tell them what they need to do in order to bring your grade up.
He was available in and outside of class. Will try to give feedback when he can on email, or laulima.
he provided contact email to ask questions...
He went around the classroom asking if any of the students needed help.
He constantly checks up on students and always encourages us to turn in papers early so that he can give us more feed back to make assignments better.
Tried to answer questions if you asked him.
He set two class dates to talk with two halves of the class about their grades and how the course is going for them, and made sure the failing students wanted to with draw or stick with the class and raise their grade.
he would constantly talk to =to everyone and bug um about homework.
He would ask if any of us had questions after the lecture and if you looked like you were struggling he would come by to help and ask if you need anything.
He provided us with contact information if we needed help from him outside of school. He goes through essays and provides comments/feedback for the student to revise just so we can make our essays look better, not really an A+ paper but better than what we had before.
Send feedback on work.
He comes up to us asking if we need help on our paper. Then, when we ask for help he tries his best to really help us out and make us understand the work.
Reid gave us feed backs and provided help even without asking.
he took the time to warn students about when the drop date for the class was. showing concern for the students overall grade.
Reid was always willing to help me with any problems that I had with my paper, small activities, outlines and drafts. He also always replied back to my emails within 24 hours
He listen to any of our questions and provided accurate and helpful answers and understood anyone with difficult situations and try to help them even a student who dropped out of class received help from him.

Mr Sunahara frequently updates students on their progress in class via email or one to one meetings.
Emailing students to get their feedback about the class and how they are doing He made sure students that are failing got back on track
He always check what the students are doing in class and able to help them when they need some advising to their papers.
He emails students when he is concerned about the classes they're missing and the grades they are getting so far.
Emailed if you haven't showed up for awhile. Would help if you did not understand.
He help us with all the hard paper, gave us good comments and advice. He was able to get in touched with students and answer questions outside the classroom. He reminds us about when our assignments due.

It depends as I feel that some studentw would like toother be in Reid's class while others wouldn't as his method of teaching and grading are diffrent from other teachers.
Yes; If you want a challenge, and have the ability to turn in work on time you will love this class, and the teacher as well. No; If you are lazy, and do not come to class you will fail this course within a few weeks.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He actually respected us as more than students. we knew if we were struggling he could help us!
He knew he area of teaching.
He knew his subject very well, he was clear and he knew how to engage with his students well.
Very easy to understand. Makes learning fun and interesting. Able to explain the subject matter thoroughly so everything makes sense!
Instructor Sunahara is the best instructor. I have instructors I strongly emphasize they are not good teachers. Instructor Sunahara, as long as you ask, he will take time out to meeet with you and explain . Other teachers respond by saying, " look it up in laulima". It's been over 20 years since I have gone to school, I knew I would be working with computers but little did I realized it would be impossible to complete anything without a computer. It's been a challenge working with computers. Instructor Sunahara is a excellent teacher!
Very interesting guy, knows his subject and makes it interesting for other to learn, understanding
He can relate to every student and can explain assignments to every type of audience.
Reid is very knowledgeable in his subject and tries to make class enjoyable while still educating.
He has an extreme amount of knowledge for on what he is teaching and is able to provide help and other resources that I would not have thought he knew any subject matter about. Very good class, however some parts were unclear as to what was expected and what the assignment was.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none that i can think of. i think his work as a teacher was near perfect.
Choice of words.
He should conduct more class interactions.
No changes... everything was awesome!
none, he knows what he is doing in his field
None.
Take the time to explain exactly what is expected and what the assignment is, such as explaining what the assignment is then elaborate on what is expected.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he would e-mail us from time to check up on us. when he corrected assignments he would also write note about what we needed help in.
He would encourage them to turn in their work even if it's passed the deadline, he still encouraged us to turn in something.
He sent out emails to remind us about missing works. He took time out of his schedule to meet with his students when they needed help. He also made very good corrections on our paper.
Asked questions, gave out contact information so students could keep in contact for further understanding/?'s!
DEFINITELY!
Sent e-mails, for example, when i was sick for a week, he sent me an email with updates what happened in class and future homework
He kept students informed about their grades for both the assignments and overall grade. Also was available to students outside of class time.
He was available for questions and would help students to understand.
He suggested that we make up some missing assignments by offering other assignments, and also was available to talk on the weekends and aid in pin pointing a topic for the writing assignment so the students would not be overwhelmed by the amount of research that needed to be conducted.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. he was a wonderful teacher and i hope others are like him! he classes were fun in an educational way, and its wasnt about goofing off.
Yea. If students are looking for a young instructor who they can relate to.
Yes i would.
Yes! Excellent teacher for english. He really understands the subject and can aid students to gain a better understanding of it.
yes i would, the reasons mentioned above :)
Yes. His class has been both educational and entertaining. I feel like I have learned things for not only in English class, but for the "real world" too.
Yes I would recommend Reid to students. He is a great teacher and wants his students to succeed.
yes I would. He is an awesome teacher, he has a high expectation that he wants his students to meet, however they are not too high that all the students can't reach them. He offers help in areas that would seem to vast to comprehend.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
he was a nice teacher.
Reid is very direct with giving feedback to you papers. (sometime he gives feedback that offended me, Kind of belittled me as a person) but I guess that's what English majors do (???) I didn't take it to heart. I took it as someone who takes his job seriously.
It was an honor to be a student of his! Awesome teacher and person!
I wish him all the best, he is smart and interesting teacher
Very good teacher! However being clear in what he expects in the assignment and elaborating on what exactly is expected.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Reid is a good teacher. He explains the work well so everyone understands.
made students feel welcome. made learning fun and i have really grown as a student from being in his class
He is a very empathetic teacher who meets students needs. Especially the ones who have difficulties in finishing assignments.

He's a good English teacher.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He likes to get the whole class involved, and he has a good way of teaching students. His style of teaching is really understanding because he makes everything very clear.
The way he explains material and draws out things. Makes it easy to learn and can point out strengths and weaknesses
some of the strength that professor reid have is the ability to make the classroom a enjoyable and make his students feel comfortable in the class. he also have a great ability to share his knowledge and break everything down to the point where if you didnt understand what he is trying to explain he would make it easier for you to understand it
One of the most strengths that is that concern that he has for the students, he always makes sure that the students understand what they are doing. He also makes sure that the corrections that are made on the essays help the students learn where they went wrong and how they can fix it. Another strength that Mr. Sunahara has is the way that he teaches towards the students. He makes it to where the students are able to understand the subject and if they dont they can go after class and ask questions about the subject.
Reid Sunahara's major strength as a teacher is his lecture, he teaches in a way that everyone could understand in the same level while making it fun to learn.
Reid Sunahara's major strengths as a teacher are his concerns for students. It is obvious that the students are his main concern and makes the course enjoyable.
He was able to teach on a level that everyone in the class can understand. He also gives examples of what works and doesnt work.
He is never afraid to be himself, and that is why i really liked him as a teacher. he did teaching in a fun way, and he was very inspirational!
He cares about the student's grade and understanding.
His major strengths include being well-rounded. His way of teaching is very effective. Also, he is very helpful to students in and out of class. He is always available whenever students need his help. He is very organized and he follows the class schedule. Although I find his teaching in a fast-paced manner, I am able to learn things that I have not yet learned before. I have done a lot of improvements in my writing as a result of his teaching.
Personally, sunahara is my favorite teacher here at KCC. I like him because he seems to me like a great teacher from a high school. He has the characteristics a "good" high school teacher has. He's funny, caring for his students, and takes his time to teach the class rather than just spewing information one after another. He has a great balance of education and relating to the students so that the whole class can learn as a whole.
He took his own time to help students
His major strengths as a teacher was his ability to explain concepts very clearly. He had the ability to make the students think for themselves. He was also good at guiding students to finish their work
English.
Creates a good humorus atmosphere in class. Knows the subject matter and what he is teaching.
Reid loves to teach and cares about students. He wants to see us succeed.
he is very blunt and tells us straight up what we need to learn and how he is going to teach it to us.
english
Reid really understand his subject very well and that he is able to convey his teachings in a clear and effective way. He was also easy to talk to and he made the class interesting and engaging. He encouraged students to really think for themselves, which prepares them for the next English course. He explains his subject well and straightforward and if the students still don't understand, he tries to level down his explanations in simplest terms so the student will understand. He's makes himself available for students to seek help. He made the class not boring and even though the workload may be a bit overwhelming, he manages to make it seem not so overwhelming.
Very objective based leader helpful in context to his assignments engages class
One of his strengths were that he encouraged us to do more. Like I only wanted to get a certificate in entrepreneurship and he pushed me to get more schooling.
He knows how to connect with the students on a more personal level. He tries his hardest to make sure everyone is at the same level and answers questions to the best of his ability. If he doesn't know an answer, he'll point us in the right direction.
To be honest, reid was a great all around teacher. He's he knows what he's teaching/talking about and he tries to work with each student to see what their weaknesses are so that he can work each student individually to help them get to where they need to be.
communication and great writing skills.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I actually think that Reid doesn't need any changes. He's a cool teacher and is very strong in his subject of teaching.
i dont think i would have him change anything because he really knows what he is teaching and he does a good about at it
I don't suggest any changes for him.
nothing.
Reid Sunahara could work on simply keeping his students updated with their grades and where each student stands in the class.
i have none.
no changes i liked everything he did to teach his students.
n/a
I would say that he may want to keep the process of writing in most of the papers. In addition, he could also give more time for research in order for students to produce better quality of writing.
Nothing I can come up with at the moment. He seems to update his class ideas and teachings according the needs and weaknesses of the students. He makes changes to his classes when necessary and does a great job keeping the class orderly.
no need, hes a great teacher
I do not think there should be any changes to the course. I think this course is designed very well.
None.
Try not to swear in class and provide a better explanation of our grade.
Maybe be a bit more strict for the less focused students.
none
Nothing, just keep doing what he's doing.
None.

none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern by helping every student if they needed help and also offering outside of class time to whoever needed the help. He gave back our work quickly so that if we had any questions he could be able to answer them.
He told me my strenghts and told me what I need to work on. He is always on laulima I am on and we used the chat room to good use. He replies to emails quickly. He just tells the truth.
he takes the time out to help the students who needs help in the class. he was also availible for students during the times he told us that he was availible. even when were not in school and if we were on laulima he set up a chat room and asked if we needed help with anything
Mr. Sunahara concern for students is really good and he really does care for the students. For me Mr. Sunahara has helped me in every way possible, he always was willing to help me understand more of the lecture if I didn't understand it good enough. I also know that he cares about the student succeeding in the class and the subject. If there are any problems that happen and it affects the students schooling he is always willing to try and help the student to make sure that they will be able to succeed and even if it is threw email. He is always concerned about the students and what is best for them and their future.
He made vidoes for students individually explaining the progress and things we have to do and our weak points
Reid Sunahara showed concern for students by offering help outside of class and constant communication via email and phone.
every paper he would grade, he would put positive feedback, like what worked well, but also added how we could make the paper stronger and better. He would also email us back if we had any questions.
he would e-mail us to remind us if/when a paper was due and it was really helpful just in case we had forgotten.
He would give advice to the students. He would also go after students to know why they weren't in class and would want to help them by giving them the assignments needed.
He is always available for communication in and out of school. He is always available through email, chat, etc. He is sets student conference schedule in order for students to know where they're at.
One thing that I recall vividly is that he made mp4 files for each student individually to: let them know how they were doing in class, what they need to work on, and their weaknesses and strengths the student should keep in mind. Sunahara also takes time in his class to make sure everyone is on the same page as to what he is teaching.
he email back and post announcements right away
He showed concern for students by sending us emails asking if we need help. He also commented heavily on our essays and gave us advice on how to make our paper stronger.
He always gave comments on our essays constantly to help make our essays more stronger and understandable.
By allowing students to revise their papers.
He was available for anything that we had question about. Reid is always willing to help if we had questions.
he helped us by revising our work. he lets us keep on revising our work until we are satisfied.
he offerd study groups
He's always reminding the students about late work, and he encourages students to seek help and lays out who can help them beside him.
by offering help sessions and personalized help to make sure the student goes through the class
By pushing me to get an associates. And encouraging us to get our work done.
If a student is struggling, he does sit down with them and ask them what he needs to do to make the material understandable.
He helped each student by trying to identify their weaknesses in their writing and help them improve in that area so that they excel and be prepared for the next level of writing.
open instant messenger to communicate outside of class.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes i would recommend Reid to other students because hes a laid back guy and he makes all the criteria he teaches easy to understand.
Yes, because he is young and can relate to us students because he said he was in that same position before. He also gives chance for essays because writing can be rewritten and fixed.
yes because he is a great teacher and he also knows how to make it understandable for everyone to learn. if you come to class everyday and do your work its almost impossible for you to fail
I would recommend Mr. Sunahara to students that are first timers at KCC. Mr. Sunahara is a professor that really cares for the students and their career and future. He is the kind of professor that students will like because he is the type that connects with the students on the same level. He is always willing to help the students in any circumstances that they might be in. He is also 100 percent for the students. His way of teaching is also one of the things that I think students would like as well. He slows it down to make examples and make sure that the students understand before moving on.
Yes, I would recommend Reid Sunahara to students because he makes learning very understandable and fun
I would recommend Reid Sunahara for students because he is one of the very few teachers who express concern for his students rather than his work. He understands the material far enough to put his students ahead of it.
I would recommend Professor Sunahara. His way of teaching is effective but also encourages a lot of productivity. You'll learn skills that you thought didn't exist. He also ties everything back together at the end of the semester.
Yes i would. the way he teaches isnt the way most teachers i have known during 7th-12th grade, and it was refreshing.
Yes, he works at a good pace to understand everything that is needed to be learned.
Yes I would. He is a great teacher. If you want to improve greatly in your writing, you should take his class. He talks in a different way but you will surely eventually get used to it. His class in funny in a way because he relates our lessons with real-life situations. He is also very helpful in every way.
Definitely. He is a great teacher who's very knowledgeable and caring for his students.
yes
Yes I would definitely recommend him to students because he challenges you and makes you think about things on a higher level.
Yes i would because not only is class is understandable but he can teach students to have more discipline in their education.
Yes, because he is a fun teacher to be around.
I would absolutely recommend him to other students. He is an amazing teacher.
yes because he is a very good teacher it is easy to learn from him.
yes hes a good teacher and he knows what hes talking bout
Yes, if the student is willing to learn, because he really does teaches and not just act like a professor.
Yes i would recomend students only if they were serious about passing the class.
Yes, because I feel that he genuinely cares about students.
Yes, I would. He is a fun teacher, easy to understand most of the time, and he works with people when needed. He's also very easy to get in touch with for any questions outside the classroom.
yes, Reid Sunahara is a really good teacher and I can guarentee he can make people that aren't so good in writing become better writers.
Yes. He's a really good teacher.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is a funny teacher and he knows what he is doing a good teaching style and gave me a lot of chances to fix my papers. Had some fun activities too.
it was a great experience for me to have met professor reid and i hope to have him as my teacher someday
He is an excellent teacher who assures that we as students understand the material. He also shows that he cares for us as students and seems motivated to help us succeed in his class.
i just like that he was himself!
In the beginning of the class he gave us lots of material for our understanding also for studying.
His class is very enjoyable. I had fun and learned a lot at the same time.
Awesome
thank you for a great semester
A very credible teacher.
I would like to see him have the opportunity to freely teach with his personal methods so that he can truly utilize his skill.
reid is a very good teacher. he only wants students in his class that want to learn. this proves that he really cares about the learnin of other students because if theres some people that are in the class that dont take it seriously it can jeapordize the learning of other students
One of the most engaging english I've ever had.
very good teacher and seems like a great person
Nothing.
He is a very good leader, making sure that people aren't left too far behind.
keep up the good work!

18. Other comments:
Don't change. he is a great teacher!
Thank you!
be prepared to think in this class.
I am disappointed that he was not able to teach the English I will be taking for the spring semester.
I understand that he's not going to hold your hand the rest of the way, that he's there to guide you and babysit you.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Sunahara knows the English 100 course competencies and knows how to prepare us for higher English courses. I had Mr. Sunahara as a English 22 teacher and he did a good job on preparing me for English 100.
I believe his strengths were that he has a good topic for each assignments. He chose a topic that everyone would somewhat be interested to write rather than a boring topic where some people wouldn't put effort to write the paper.
Mr. Sunahara's major strength as a teacher is his passion and devotion to his field of job. He is a hard working teacher and able to reach out to his students. One of his major traits is his patience, professionalism, and intelligence.
Mr. Sunahara's strengths are that he knows his material very well. he gives good examples on what hes trying to teach the class.
He really gets to know the students individually. He really tries to work with the students to help them out. He is very approachable.
He knew what he was teaching.
He knows the English subject very well.
He knew his subject area very well. He would relate to students and try to teach based on that relation
His major strength's are that he doesn't settle for excuses. He is very straight forward, and he knows exactly how and what he wanted us as students to learn in his course.
Reid sunahara's major strengths as a teacher is that he knows how to teach the course and relate it to life experiences. He brings a good atmosphere to the class and relates to his students, giving students the chance to talk to one another about assignments and to the teacher without hesitation. The pace of the course was very well set for the students as it allowed us to immerse ourselves in work every time we went to class. There was no day where we had free time, and that gave us the opportunity to feel how it would be like to be in a university class. I Love the way he teaches, and i highly recommend him to other students.
Made the class easy and was able to relate to us.
He really tries to help his students especially out of class. He gives out his cell number instead of just a office number. You can contact him through phone, email, and see him outside of class which is very helpful. He explains all the assignments with great detail and encourages students to redo work to learn from students' weaknesses.
He is able to relate to the students and breaks down the course material in to small and understandable parts.
Reid's major strenghts included his ability to always be available to discuss with you your concerns in class 24/7. He also always had the whole assignment in a great process order so nothing was handed too you in an overload. He always checked everything for you before the final draft was due so you could better yourself as well as after you final draft was handed in. He was a really great professor and I know I learned a great deal from this class not just in writing but in myself as well because each assignment we did had something to do with our own personal lives and future academic and career goals. I really enjoyed it all!
he related well. it was easy to connect.
Always he answers our question, and his class is so clear.
he seemed to have a good knowledge about what he is teaching, and his feedback on my writing was pretty helpful. also, i think he listens to his students' opinions and make changes for them if necessary. lastly, i liked that he was available anytime by phone, e-mail, and messengers.
Professor Sunahara is very eloquent and well-informed. He knew answers about English that were both above and below the course requirements. He returned phone calls and emails promptly, which is more than I can say for at least half of my teachers. It was a relief to know that in today's technological advancements there are teachers moving and changing with the times. He established a standard that which I applied to all of my teachers. He was very "techy" which made keeping in contact very easy. Professor Sunahara also broke down the requirements in a way so that it could easily be understood.
Reid Sunahra's major strengths as a teach is that he is very knowledgable in the course that he teaches and he explains every assignment very clear.
His teaching is very understandable, helpful and fun. He is very good teacher. I can meet him to ask a question easily and he always gave me great advice. I was not good at writing but after taking his class I like to write English essay. I did understood how I should write an essay.
Reid Sunahara treats students like a colleague or a buddy, allowing the student to be at ease while taking his course. He makes students feel as if he is the same age as them, and as if he was a long time friend. Sunahara is readily available for help in the later hours of the day. When giving feedback on assignments, Sunahara may use different forms of response. He gives critiques in writing, audio, and video. Sunahara can also set themes for assignments which would benefit the student in the long run. One theme is working around a career path that the student has chosen, or is considering of entering.
he is available when you need him.He gives you various ways of contacting him outside of class. examples:through e-mail, instant message, chat, telephone, text message.
Mr.Sunahara's major strengths were that if we needed help for a assignment we could have contacted him.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
There is no changes that I wanted to suggest to Mr. Sunahara. I just wanted him to keep up the good work.
i have no suggestions for Mr. Sunahara. he's a really good teacher.
avoid profanity
None
He shouldn't move as fast during the semester. Explain a little more on the assignments, about what is required
I suggest that he slow down the pace just a little bit. His assignments went by pretty quick.
I think that he should not make any changes at all
Maybe he could have shown us peoples work from former classes as an aid?
N/A. It was a great semester and I would recommend to other students.
Maybe just a little more feedback from fellow students on our papers.
n/a
My biggest concern this semester with Professor Sunahara was my grade. I did not consistently produce well organized essays by my standards; however I felt that I didn't receive the grade I deserved from him, despite applying myself and being proactive. Other than consistency, Professor Sunahara's class is by far one of two classes that I learned the most in this semester and would not change a thing.
nothing. Although his class was one day per week, it was helpful to students even international students.
Sometimes some explanations were not too clear on some assignments. Also, when explaining some parts in the process of doing an assignment, you have referred to them by different names or directions which caused some confusion.
n/a
The only thing that I would change would be that we would have done more in-class assignments.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern by giving us a lot of time on assignments and breaking assignments down into fragments. He also allowed conference meetings for our assignments and allowed us to turn in papers late.
He showed concerned by calling the students who were skipping class , so that they wouldn't fail his class.
Mr. Sunahara showed us his concern by inspiring us to do more efforts in class. He uses his own personal experiences to lead us to the right path as college students. He inspired us by telling us that no one is perfect and just try our best. He never fails on responding to questions whether it's through e-mail or in class session. And when he response, he clarifies things in a way that I could understand it very well. Even though he has a PHD, he always uses a plain language to help us understand each assignments that he assigns to us.
Mr. Sunahara lets students know whats they're missing and also he helps and encourages students to get the work in.
He told us how he was concerned that as a class we weren't learning as much as we should. He sent me an email when I missed class due to illness.
He gave us calls to see how we're doing with our work and encourage us to schedule meetings to over materials covered in class.
He would do his best to make sure that he was able to help students outside of class. He would give out his personal cell phone number and would inform students of when he would be in school, in case students want to meet up for tutoring or for questions.
He showed his concern by making himself available to him 24/7. He gave us his email, his phone number, told us when he was on campus. As well as he would give us feedback on our work as soon as possible.
He would call the students or email the students if they missed a class. also, he would warn the students that if they do miss class then it is of there own accord. If you come to class you're rewarded with knowing what is happening in the class, if you didnt than it was your fault. Also, he would tell us if we need corrections or revisions in our work to get a better grade. He would always push us to do better than what we think we can.
He set up conferences with students to see where they were at and gave people the opportunity to get a better grade.
He offered a lot of help especially outside of class. Takes the time to help students understand.
This being a hybrid class, he made the effort to answer questions outside of class. During classes he would make sure every one was on track and that we were already starting on the current assignment of the week. Also he helps everyone not only as a class but also as individuals.
He was avaliable 24/7 whether it was thru email, text messaging, facebook, phone calls, web chat, office calls, he was always there to help. He wanted to see you succeed not fail.
if a student fell behind he would email, talk to in class, and/or call to reach them.
He is friendly.
Professor Sunahara took the time out of his schedule to explain a more advanced way of formulating a thesis to me. He explained, that rather than listing topics, I should show causal and effect. He was also very easy to work with when making last minute adjustments to meet with him.
He encouraged students to have to time to meet with a tutor and if not he was available through email or text message.
he was always accessible like using face book and telling his cell number
Reid Sunahara helped students revise essays when he could have just let the student make changes on his/her own. However, Sunahara provides his on suggestions, and helps us make proper changes to fit the assignment's steps.
He got on students who didn't turn in there assignments and told them about the consequences that could occur if they didnt complete their assignments. He sent e-mails to notify you of what assignments you were missing and asked if we needed help.
He showed concern for his students by offering help if they needed it.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because his style of teaching is simple and very clear to understand
I would recommend Reid Sunahara to students, because he strongly knows his class materials, and able to make students improve on their writing.
Definitely YES! Because he is the type of a teacher who cares more about what his students' learned from him than what a student already know.
yes, i would recommend other students to take his class. because he's funny and he has a good sense of humor while teaching the class. so basically he doesnt make teaching boring.
Yes. He presents things very clearly and encourages you to think outside your comfort level.
If you can work fast and keep up with his plan, then sure.
Yes because you will learn a lot.
Yes, he is a great teacher. You actually come out of his class learning something.
Yes, I would gladly recommend him to other students. I would because the way he teaches made me feel at ease, but at the same time he made it known that I needed to get my work done, and done well.
Yes i would recommend him to other students because he knows his area of knowledge very well. He never lets you have time to talk in class and will always push you to do better. He provides a lot of information for assignments and will always be glad to help out. He also sets a good atmosphere with the class, allowing for better participation.
Yes because he tries his best to help you pass, but its up to the students effort.
Yes, because he breaks things down to make writing much easier. A lot more work but a better understanding of things.
Yes, because he puts a lot of effort into the class and with helping students. Teaches in an interesting and funny way. Pushes students to think differently. Also pushes even more so on the students who are behind. But is not that mean about it, very chill.
HELL YA! he rocks! best teacher I've had so far at Kapi'olani CC.
yes. he shows genuine concern for his students.
I recommend his class. His class is clear and simple, but academic.
I was recommended to Professor Sunahara by a student who had taken him in an earlier semester and I'm glad I listened. I would recommend him to any student wanting to take their english and writing to another level. He is friendly, outgoing, informative, easy to get along with, and presents an environment conducive to learning.
Yes. He is a very great and fair professor.
Yes I do. I don't know other English class is good or not. but I think this class is the most helpful class.
Yes, I would recommend Reid Sunahara to other students. Sunahara makes student's feel like a friend and he goes out of his way to make sure students learn his content and to help students do well on every assignment.
Yes, I would recommend students to Reid Sunahara because he knows the course material and he's very helpful.
Yes, I would recommend Mr. Sunahara to other students because he is a good teacher.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is a good english teacher and would recommend him to any students
He is also a funny guy!
He introduced ENGLISH in a whole new level. He passes on his knowledge to his students. I gained a lot of knowledge from him, and it is something that no one can take away from me.
thanks for a good semester and i learned alot.
He's a good guy. Really fair.
Had a great semester with you. Keep it up
I would like to say that his style of teaching is great. He really got our class to interact with each other as well as the material he was teaching us. I really learned a lot, and I could see my own improvement in my work as the semester went on.
He cares a lot about the grades the student gets. However, if the student shows he/she doesn't care about his/her grade then he wouldn't bother to deal with them because he would rather teach the ones in class. This is a good thing, because it teaches a lesson to the student.
Good teacher.
Great professor. Humorous and knows his material.
He's very professional and a great teacher and he's also fun and he has the most interesting and educational asssignments Ive ever taken in a writing class.
I think I've covered his strengths and weaknesses in the above text. He is a great teacher. From a student's standpoint, a teacher is one that can not only present scholastic material in an easy to understand way but also who can cross the classroom/real-world barrier. I have not said this about any teacher before Professor Sunahara, but there are a lot of horrible tenured teachers not only within the UH faculty but also throughout Hawaii's education system; fortunately , Professor Sunahara does not fall into this category and if not already, should receive tenure.
nothing.
18. Other comments:
Thank You! :)
Air conditioning in the classroom was either freezing or warm and stuffy.
None
He should be teaching English 100 courses next semester. I don't understand why he isn't.
Keep up the awesome teaching,if he were teaching a higher level english class, i would personally choose his class to attend.I learned a lot in this class, and hopefully other students after me will too.
I hope he will be my next english teacher IF i have to take a high english class.
He rocks.. nuff said.. haha
On a side note, UH needs to re-evaluate it's faculty members so that they can actually justify charging students for their education. I have had more than a few inconsistent teachers this semester, which has made learning a lot more complex than it should be. I apologize for placing this in Professor Sunahara's survey, this is in no way a reflection of his character or ability to teach. Quite the contrary, he is a very good teacher and has referred me to other English professors so that I may continue my English growth.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he was clear about things in class about work and what needs and has to be done.
I think Reid's strengths are: Helping students be more creative, being clear when teaching, answering questions promptly outside of the classroom, helping students understand assignments, giving students the resources to complete assignments, challenging a student to do assignments on their own, teaching things that will be useful outside the academic arena of life, and relating to students.
Reids major strengths as a teacher is that he always explains everything till we understand him. He always asks us if we get what he saying, that way if we don't understand he can explain it a little more. I really liked his class, it wasn't boring!
I learned a lot of essay style from him and got a new information.
Reid Sunaharara's major strengths as my teacher in English 22 are his ability to listen carefully and communicate clearly. I love his teaching style, because he takes as much time as a student needs to have a complete understanding of the studentâ??s perspective to understand how to provide that student with an example that would best suite each different student. His youthfulness helps him provide current examples for the class that are relevant to our lives and seems to draw us in to become braver to communicate to the friend he offers us in his passionate to make us all excellent students. Reid does not just teach he strives for an interactive class by creating fun and interesting quizzes and memorable word games. He never makes anyone feel bad or even embarrassed for a weird answer, and he never negates a students efforts. He knows how to pull students into class discussions and keep them participating enthusiastically. He knows his information thoroughly. His skill level is so high that he comes off as a natural and makes learning English look simple and fun. I thought that waking up for a 7:45am class would be difficult but Reid his classes have a good upbeat pace that i found it to be a great way to wake up and start exercising the brain. I give him an A+
Designed an assignment that student are interested.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
nothing... hes a good teacher....
If i were to ask for any changes for Reid Sunahara as an instructor. I would say his teaching method is fantastic, but I would like to have him post his office hours so that i would not feel like i was taxing him for extra help on his off time.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
didnt give up on the students and worked with them to help things better and go easier in class with your work....
He was available at almost anytime to be contacted. He gave us numerous ways of contact: office hours, phone number, email, and IM. He gave great critiques on how we can make our papers better and allowed us to rewrite the paper and turn it in for a better grade.
Well if i had missed my class he called me to ask what was going on and what was my progress and made sure that i was coming to the next class.
Reid Sunahara shows concern for his students by pulling them into class participation. If i had an answer or some writing that was wrong, rather than say i am wrong he would say something like. This is good perhaps in a different place or time. He made students feel good about participating. He seems to understand the frustration of being a student and provides students as many example as they need until they understand the information correctly.
He was always available and make time for student who needed help either by phone through e- mails or by appointment for a one on one session.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes i would i think many people would enjoy him and he doesnt talk down to anyone and he tries to get on everyone's level so they can learn...
Yes, because he actually teaches english and the process of writing. I would assume his English 100 class is challenging, but I'm sure he is concerned about those students and will give the same contact information. He teaches things that are relevant to life and will help in the long run.
yes, hes a cool teacher! you just need to come to class in order to pass!
For me Reid was a really good at all aspects, as a teacher and as a person. He really knows his subject, even beyond it and during the class you would never get bored because of his jokes. He is really funny. Reid can always tell you what you do wrong and right, which really helps with your classes. His classes are concerned not only about learning about something but also learning about yourself. I think the class is really easy if you attend it and do everything on time.
Yes i would love to recommend Reid Sunahara to students because he knows how to teach with passion and makes class fun! He will make the weakest student feel vital in class projects. He has great energy to share.
yes. he was easily approach and know the assignments very well.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
ive enjoyed him as a teacher and he hasnt given up on me when i have given up on myself at times and i thank him for that
Great teacher and creative in teaching tactics. I would recommend him to anyone that I know.
I think that I prefer regular feedback than MP3 one
Reid has heart for the underdog. He has more energy than and average teacher because he is passionate about making everyone understand and enjoy his class.
18. Other comments:
an awesome teacher and i would keep him around as a teacher
As a International student, I didn't meet any other second language students in class. Sometimes I felt lonely and needed to help for assignment. But teacher helped me a lot and it was very helpful for me. I appreciated it.
We are lucky to have a teacher who really cares about their students enjoying as well as learning. We need more teacher like Reid Sunahara.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is very intelligent on his subject and the reality in general.
none
The instructor's strengths were his knowledge of english. His knowledge of essay writing and how future teacher will be grading us.
He knows what he is teaching and makes time to to explain if anyone gets lost along the way.
Explained learning material very well. Very knowledgeable in subject area. He was able to always keep classes interesting and found ways to make boring subjects fun.
the instructor's strengths as a teacher is that he is confident in what he is teaching. he has an effective way of teaching that allows the student of the classroom to feel comfortable as well. the amount of work given has a sufficient time-frame in which the students are allowed to complete. grades are given promptly as well.
His ability to teach at a rate where i can understand also he offers his knowledge and gives you alot of opportunities to come and recieve help
He was very clear with his points and was able to convey the idea of the class/topic clearly. He was very helpful and took time to listen to individual student ideas.
professor Sunahara always made sure that we understand the topics we have in the class. He let us know ahead of time that we can reach him via e-mails or phone calls if we have any questions. He treated his students fairly and give grades to his students fairly.
He was very well versed and as a student in his class you could that he genuinely cared about all of people in his classes. I heard about him being quite blunt and to the point as a downfall, however that was one of the reasons why I like him as a teacher. I don't really like it when teachers don't allow their students to think for themselves. He was also very clear about his standards and requirements for each of his students. For such an assertive person, he was quite lenient as long as they learned the course work.
The instructor's major strengths is the knowledge of the subject and the way he is able to explain assignments so that everyone understands them
Sunahara always made sure we understood how to do our assignments and why the assignment was important for us to learn. Also i felt that he connected with us students that made it easier for us to pay attention.
His major strength is his ability to keep the class interested. The teacher knows his subject very well and is able to relate to other subjects as well. His class does not get boring and he grading is very fair.
This semester I feel that my writing has developed into a more adaptable style of writing that can suit any assignment. This progress is due to the writing process assignments that helped me analysis how I write.
spoke clearly and the assignments were very easy to follow.
the Instructor is very concise of what he is doing. he had knowledge of what he is talking about.
His strengths are that he's very understanding, makes learning english fun, and is very understanding.
he makes course relevant to the wider world
The teacher knows very well about teaching.
he always try to help me.
He knows his subject very well.
The instructor was very relaxed and cool with everything. Everything he explained was very clear and to the point. He was always offering help and I learned a lot from this instructor, great teacher.
speaks loud and clear.
He creates an atmosphere that is easily to work. So it is easier to learn in his class.
17. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
I do not suggest the instructor should make any changes to his lesson plan.
none
None
no changes are necessary.
None
Nothing really, for an average student it doesn't take much in his class to get an A. He lays everything out there, he/she just has to do the work.
The teacher is tried different things with different classes. He tries to find what works best for his students rather then him. No changes needed.

19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
the instructor show concern easier for students every time.
The instructor should concern for his student by making himself readily available at all reasonable hours. He gave us his personal cell phone number and personal email address if we had any questions.
He offered feed back on paper before the final draft was due.
He was very easy to get a hold of incase of any questions or problems for assignments. Always put extra effort to make sure the class as a whole was never lost or confused.
the instructor shows concern for the students by replying right away to e-mails. he allows revisions with a required rough-draft. he also holds workshops for students so that they are able to improve their writing. and at the end of every class he stays behind incase anyone has questions for him to answer.
he gave out his cell phone number, multiple emails so you can get a hold of him. he also made a cd for each student so we can learn from our progress in class.
He walked around the classroom looking and reading each students paper and gave them notes on if they were on the right path and if not he took time to help correct the papers and adjust the students line of thought into the right path.
I always get a feedback what I did right and wrong with our assignments and I think that is very important to me to improve my skills in writing.
He would meet with his students one on one, set up in-class workshops for papers, gave everyone his cell number where he could be contacted at all times, and even included his messenger screen name.
He would give good feedback on students assignments and help the students who were having trouble with any of their work.
He would provide us with almost all of his contact information ( office hours, email, instant messenger, cell phone number)to make sure that if we weren't in class and we needed help we would always have some way of contacting him
The teacher allows corrections for our essays. The teacher has given out aid and allows us to seek help when needed. The teacher has also given out contact so he may be reached anytime.
the instructor show concern, when i was missing class..he reminded me that i should go class for the rest of the semester because there are alot of information will be cover. and he was right i learn a lot since i attend class regularly
By say if we need help with an assignment or need further instruction on how to do something, he's right there for us
the instructor listens and answers questions accuratley
The teacher had a lot of time after classes to explain well and teach when I had not understandings, problems about the class and the assignments.
He told us what to fix on our paper.
yes, very much, he gave you his honest opinion for what is in your best interest.
always asked if we started projcts
He went around the class, trying to help each student on assignments.

But it turned out that I enjoyed and also learned a lot about the process of writing. This is going to be very valuable to achieving my educational goals in the upcoming semesters.
yes, i would recommend this instructor to students because he demonstrates good teaching in a way that is fun and effective.
definetly would! he is one of the best teachers i ever had
yes, he is very understanding and helpful. if a student has a hard time with an assignment he had many way of getting in touch with him; phone, instant messaging, office hours, and class. he provides a helpful environment in which students learn but still feel very comfortable with working in groups for papers and projects.
Absolutely, Yes!
I would definitely recommend him as a teacher. I lot of the people I know really like their teachers to be hands on and no- bullshit like I do. So I know that they'll like him.
yes I would because I was able to learn at a fast pace as well as have a good time
I would recommend that students have Sunahara as an instructor because he is a great teacher and the material he teaches will benefit students later on in the future.
I would recommend this teacher for students who have high standards for themselves, and do not give up easily. The teacher does show concern for students who are struggling, but continues with his work. He is a excellent teacher, and students who do not have a lot of time for school or give up easier then others will have a harder time.
i would recommend this instructor because his class was very straight forward and easy to understand.
yes. i think he has a strict way of teaching but very affective. its taught me to be on point and always or constant study.

21. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
i think he is a good instructor.
His lessons plans were well thought out and always stayed on point with the course material. There was not any wasted class time or unnecessary assignments. His essay papers and research assignment also prepared us for our life and career outside of school. His is a great teacher.
He is willing to help.
If I happen to enroll in more English courses here at KCC, I am definitely going to look him up as an instructor. I enjoyed his teaching style.
nothing.
he seems like he really cares for his students
I like how he was straight to the point. he didn't butterball anything. he was very helpful and had many ways to contact him for help on revisions and rough drafts. he gave many opportunity for extra credit on each paper, and supplied me with the materials to succeed in this english class along with most other classes i will need to take in my major field in terms of writing.
I am very glad that I enrolled myself in his class, because he helped me to improve my writing skills.
Keep up the good work and don't let the lazies take over your optimistic view!!
HIs is a great instructor and very knowledgeable.
One of my more enjoyable class during the semester. The teacher is funny but serious as the same time, which is what more teachers need. Many teachers are too serious, which makes the class boring.
nothing else
very good english teacher
he is keen to explore the art of teaching and to create a relevant experience.
Thank you for teaching well. I learned a lot.
I would sign up for any of the classes he teaches.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
COOL GUY. SUPER CHILL. ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU NEED HELP. EXPLAINS VERY WELL.
For preparation to the next level of english he has that down. He prepares you well and does exercises for you to be ready for the next level.
His strengths I would say is actively preparing us for the next level of english. And also making are workloads for this class less at first by giving us big papers to take down first then it would lesson to mini-assignments such as free writes and book reports.
he relates to students very well
The instructors major strength as a teacher was, interacting with students, making us see a whole different view upon writing in a different way and made me like english more, teaching us about grammar and how to write a paper and what is expected to be read on a paper.
The instructor definitely knew his material. Had an answer to every question and helped me whenever I needed it.
He explained assignments really well. Well organized and made the class enjoyable.
The instructor's major strengths as a teacher was being able to provide a good atmosphere for his students. Not only that but he made us understand concepts in ways we could understand. For instance, he would give examples of situations that we once faced.
He had the ability to welcome participation of all students and was very clear and straight to the point.
For English 22, Mr. Reid Sunahara's major strengths as a teacher is that he made learning fun but, at the same time serious and also related our assignments to our life.
His major strengths are that he broke down exactly what we needed to do for us to easily understand. I also really like his attitude for the class he didnt show any favorites and he didnt beat around the bush. He also gave us each time to help us one on one with our assignments.
the teacher understood the material that they were teaching.
He is accessible, I feel comfortable talking with him.
He cared about his students and how well they did in the class!!! He was very prompt on answering questions and he made sure he was easy to reach since this is an online class!!!
He was always available to assist us with any help almost at all times which is a great big help.
Knows the subject very well, and teaches it very understandable and clearly to all students.
The intrsctor's major strengths as a teacher are that he is ethusiastic and knowledgeable. His comment on my paper helped me to improve my writing skill as well as let me know what I need to work on.
Provided good explanations of assignments and provided good suggestions to help with our assignments.
he was always available when i need help and able to answer all my questions in a timely manner.
One of Mr. Sunahara's major strengths is his originality as a teacher and his own way of unique teaching. When he teach, he uses different strategies on how to get to his students and one of the example is his slide shows. He gives more time on explaining our new lesson briefly than writing it on the board. He is also very patient and a good listener. Our opinions in the class really matters to him. He is always there to assist his students. He is also easy to get ahold of for he provides multiple ways of point of contacts. HE NEVER FAILED ON GUIDING US THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS OF LEARNING IN HIS CLASS,
Mr.Sunahara major strengths is he spoke clearly about porjects and assignments. He also helped you when you asked for help and challenged you to think for yourself.
he understands how students think.
- enforcement of deadlines
HE IS A REORGANIZED TEACHER WHO LIKE TO GET THINGS DONE QUICK.
The instructor had a plan of assinging assingment over the semester.
He is a very kind instructor and he knows what he is talking about.
He knows the material throughly and teaches it effectively.
prep for english 100
The instructor strengths is that he make english fun. Also explains things in ways that students can relate to.
The teacher knew what he was talking about and was able to answer my questions clearly.
being able to communicate to the students in a way that the students can relate and feel comfortable learning with.
He explains the objectives and criteria clearly and straight up.
17. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
NOTHIN. HE'S GOOD ENOUGH ALREADY
Nothing
The change I would suggest would be to mix up the assignments. What I mean is to small assignments then maybe a big paper then one small assignment then another big paper so the workload of the class would balance out more.
nothing. pick up more english 100 classes. i want him next semester and the next and the next and the next and the next.
If their were any changes for the instructor I would say nothing at all. Just hoped we could learn more about writing research or other things.
NONE
I felt that no changes should be done.
No changes needed.
none
I don't have any.
Changes that could be done arent much at all. I knew well what I needed to be do and what exactly was going to be done. He made it all pretty simple.
N/A
He should keep doing online classes!
I suggest that the instructor should require all students to attach their weekly assignment as .doc not .docx or .rtf because I think a lot of people like me don't have update software to open all the attachment to view other students'assignments. As a result, I couldn't give comment on what they were writing about. Also, I suggest that the instructor should provide the deadline of all weekly assigment right at the beginning of the semester because I think it will be more covenient for students, especially they can plan ahead the time they should spend on this class and it will help them not to miss the assignments
none.Reid is a very great english instructor and i really enjoyed taking his online course.
No changes is necessary.
I dont suggest any changes since I actually learned in class.
be more involved with the students

None really, but if any, provide an example of the material being covered. Though that would prevent us from thinking critically.

19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
HE WOULD CHAT WITH US ONLINE IF WE NEEDED HELP OR WE CAN CALL HIM ANYTIME.
He wants everyone to do good, so if you show effort he will help you out a lot.
By letting us know when we need to improve in something. as far as writing or grammar.
he always gives us feed back.
The instructor showed concern for the students by setting rules and what is to be expected. Then he'd recommend us to go tutoring if we do need help or what not. He'd also point out what is needed to be fixed on a paper to the whole class but without mentioning who did it and with that, it helped me visualize different perspective on a assignment.
He was available whenever we needed, or atleast tried to be. He responded to all emails promptly.
He would let us turn in papers that we already got graded on to be revised. He would listen to what we had to say.
The instructor showed concern by directly asking us how we felt about situations we felt uncomfortable with or concerned. He made sure we understood the procedure at all times.
by invovling his cirriculum with assigments that made sense to learn, as it will better us after school, like the career option essy.
Asked if we needed any help.
He showed concern by taking one on one time with us during class to help us with what ever assignment we were working on. Also by talking to students and letting students know when they were fallling behind.
He would always encourage us to make revisions on our work to get a higher grade.
told students important info needed to perform well on assignments.
He was very understanding when I was having computer difficulties, even helped me through them.
He gave us chances to make up assignments that were missed. He gave good feedback to our assignments
He would leave messages in the chatroom or in the lesson of the week encouraging us to log on often to be caught up with the class or his feedbacks and comments on all of our work shows that he wants us to do better.
Letting them know that we can email him anytime and he will reply asap or we could go in and visit him in his office hours when he's in.
In my case, when the instructor knew that I couldn't view his comment for my weekly assignment because I didn't have quicktime, he emailed and called me to help me with the problem. After that, he created the flash version to help me to view his comments and materials for the class. I don't think not a lot of teachers will actually care about the students like him. I do enjoy his class.
As an online instructor there is a barrier between student and teacher. However, this teacher did a good job of having videos on assignments that were given and also gave video feedback on our assignments. I thought this really helped, although you meet face to face. I know it takes time to produce these short videos for each student.
He made sure that all the students understood his instructions and if not he would chat with students and reply in a timely manner.
He treats everyone fairly and he devotes time on each of us to address us if there's any improvement that has to be done in our work. He explains in the class the importance of being actively involve in the class and how it will benefit us in the future.
The way that he shohwed concern is he asked if you need help and he helped you when you needed it.
- talked to those who didnt understand
HE WAS A VERY CARING TEACHER BY HELPING US STEP BY STEP IN EACH ASSIGNMENT AND WAS OPEN FOR ANY QUESTION VIA E-MAIL OR EVEN CELL.
The instructor told us that if we miss class then we would most likely to fial our portfolio.
He showed concern for students by making sure that all work was completed by the due date.
Provided help outside of class through different ways of contact, it was always easy to get a hold of him.
helped a lot with our portfolio
The instructor show concern for students by explaining to them what they are doing wrong if they are making mistakes.
He would ask if we neede any help on things, if we had any questions, and if we understood what he was teaching us.
tell us that we needed to buckle down
Let us turn in late work, lower grade but al least we could still turn it in for a grade.

Honestly yes. This instructor was the kind of instructor who made you have this vibe where, "you have to do your work". He wouldn't even say it to you, he'd just look at you and you could see in his eyes or teachings that he does wants us to succeed but if we don't do it, then he's not going to care about us. So, when we do do our best in class and attend class, he made sure that we were getting the education that his students deserve. English was always my worst subject. Never understood it, never wanted to. Mr. Sunahara was a great instructor and made me actually like learning about english. He is really easy to talk to and made it really easy to understand english by relating to the students.
I would also like to say that I enjoyed his class because the whenever we had writing assignments, we always had steps. For example, we would first do an outline, then rough draft, then final. This procedure helped me to my final outcomes.
