6. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
Everything she has taught and discussed with us during group sessions and during clinical days.
Through clinical I experienced a number of thing that will benefit me personally. I had the privilege of being apart of and witnessing births with families, communicating with them and educating them with the knowledge that we obtained in class.
The appreciation of bringing a new life into the world and techniques to help pregnant women.
I gained hands on experience in taking care of pregnant women and their newborns. Also, I was able to experience live births.
I learned how to better handle stressful situations. I also learned how to not take patient comments or requests personally.
All the information learned and the clinical experiences.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Carmen did an excellent job teaching this course. I can not think of any areas for improvement. She communicated effectively with students, offered support, and was readily available for any questions or concerns the students had. She demonstrated thourough understanding of the course content and demonstrated true passion for the field.
Carmen was the best clinical instructor ever! :) She was so knowledgeable and shared all her experiences with us that would benefit our learning. She was extremely patient and encouraging the whole way throughout this semester.
Carmen is so patient and understanding. She showed compassion to the field and her students. She made sure everyone was okay during the cesarean birth. She was always thinking of the students and never took a break. She was always with a student helping them and the patient during birth. She is so knowledgable and wise. I love to hear about her alternate interventions she learned in midwifery and how they vary from the hospital routine interventions. It really made me open my eyes to what I want in my birth that I didn't know was available to me.
NA. She is a great instructor.
I felt she did a good job.
She is a great teacher that is very thorough. No improvements needed.

21. What changes would you make in the clinical experiences?
Less paper work during the clinical day. When things were slow it was fine to have a lot of paper work, however, when days were busy it was almost as if we were penalized for doing the work with the nurses because we had to stay after to finish up the paper work. I think the course coordinator should change this requirement for the course.
none!
I would like more days at L&D and less days at high risk or MBCU. I only got to see one vaginal birth and one cesarean birth at Kapiolani because every day I was there, it was slow. I wish I was exposed to more opportunities. High risk and MBCU is very similar to Med-Surg and I feel we do not need that many days.
NA
Carmen was always helpful and somehow always around to help us even though there are 9 students. I wish we had more time in the nursery and less in the MBCU. Also, writing vital signs down 4 different times in 4 different papers does not have any relevance to me. That takes away from my clinical experience when I have to keep thinking how many times I have to record vital signs.

22. Other comments:
I enjoyed being in Carmen Linhares' clinical group. She is very knowledgeable of the topics discussed and she is always there to help during clinical days. She cares for her students in succeeding.
BEST clinical teacher!
NA
On the MBCU floor, it felt like we were not welcomed as students. Sometimes clinical experience was not that great because of the nursing staff on the floor. Communication was one problem. There are some things that we students can do for the nurse, yet they go off doing patient care without letting the students know. This gives students less opportunity to practice nursing skills. Another problem with the floor is that there weren't enough vital sign machines. We students end up waiting around for a while because we're waiting for the machine.
Wonderful teacher. Very organized, prompt, intelligent, understanding, and warm hearted. One of the best clinical instructors I had.
