18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
|
| Strong clinical knowledge and guidance
Dedication to promoting growth of students in multiple professional domains
Strong role modeling of professional leadership |
| They were able to provide helpful guidance regarding appropriate levels of care and recommendations for services. I think what was most helpful for me this semester is that the instructors encouraged us to really think about what was best for the child on a global level for assessment purposes as opposed to being diagnosis focused. I feel my clinical formulations were improved in that sense and that I was able to tie in evidence from the literature along with case specific information in order to provide a clear picture of the child's issues and needs. We also honed in on data monitoring and response to treatment in order to encourage other providers to do the same, which I feel is crucial towards our goal of systems level change. Treatment protocols within the clinic were also streamlined with tighter adherence to treatment flowcharts which I felt was helpful when I could not get supervision. |
| Provided detailed consultation on difficult clinical issues |
|
|
19. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| Attention to promoting cooperativity and good will among workplace
Responsiveness to challenges of graduate student role
Flexibility |
| I believe that a lot of the time we are still not able to fit everything we need into one weekly group supervision. I know I was not able to get supervision on treatment cases a number of times when I needed it, either in group or from my peer supervisor. I feel like this might be a problem especially for less trained students in the practicum. Assessment presentations are also a lot less thorough than they used to be, given time constraints, so I would be careful again, for more complex cases or students with less training. Assessment timeliness is also sometimes held up because of waiting for SV. I know everyone is busy, but perhaps the instructors could also set up a standing individual SV time in addition to the group SV to help students should they need SV earlier in the week. I also feel that a higher level of individual feedback throughout the semester (not only when it is negative) would help us to grow in areas that we are not strong in. |

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| Learning how to write in a scientific method. Learning which methods were the best to use. |
| Individual attention from the instructor. |
| I feel like I gained a lot of knowledge and experience in my personal research. I spent a great deal of time thinking critically about my thesis topic and learned to be more independent in that sense. I also feel my confidence in writing and presentation skills improved, and that I received valuable input and direction from my committee and adviser.
Working in conjunction with the HOFGC helped me to develop my consultation skills as a clinical psychology trainee. I was encouraged to exert more influence upon meetings and built confidence in my ability to provide recommendations based on evidence based guidelines. I feel that the most valuable aspect of that area is knowing that we are affecting system level changes and encouraging service providers/teams to be more accountable for children in the system by consistently tracking response to treatment and data collection. |
|
|
14. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
|
| NA |
| Although having a day blocked off for HOFGC work was sometimes valuable, I don't feel hours spent there were always used optimally. Informal consultation hours were low and I don't feel the staff there is fully taking advantage of our collaboration, or feel comfortable asking for help. Although huge gains have been made in terms of data monitoring, I know there were a number of times where I offered my help or MHS1s suggested coming to me for consultation (e.g., constructing CSPs/treatment targets) and it did not happen. Perhaps continued close collaboration with the staff and direction on how we could be more useful would make our time there more valuable. |

19. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
|
| he always wants us to attempt to solve a problem on our own. |
| His effort in training his students to be independent researchers.
His enthusiasm about the field
His availability to students |
| In addition to what was mentioned earlier, I feel that Brad's continued organization, enthusiasm, and availability are most valuable in terms of research and training. I'm always encouraged to be assertive and contribute in all areas which is helpful in giving me that push I often need. His excitement is infectious and helpful in stressful times, and he always reminds us of the great changes we are making. Despite setbacks that have occured, he is always helpful in keeping me optimistic and helping me problem solve and keep deadlines in order to continue working towards my goals in the most timely way possible. |

14. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| Discussion of ethics, potential situations that we might need to use them in, and instructor's thoughts on dealing with ethical situations based on his own professional experience. |
| As a novice to the field of clinical psychology as well as to graduate studies in this discipline, I
thought that the most valuable aspect of this course was the way that it provided a comprehensive
overview of its subject while also teaching students how to succeed in graduate school. Equally
invaluable was the emphasis it placed on fostering analytical thinking skills and reasoned scientific
principles. |
| Learning about ethics through class presentations as it is beneficial for all concentrations in psychology. Getting feedback from the instructor for presentations help alot too:) |
| The course was structured in a way which allowed for a nice flow of content areas. The instructor was genuinely engaged and enthusiastic about the material and incorporated thoughtful examples which allowed for good discussion. |
| The survey of the wide range of topics about which a clinical psychologist must continuously learn to maintain the higher standards of the profession.
Multicultural awareness. |

15. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
|
| This course does a good job of covering a lot of ground. I didnâ??t think any of the classes or
readings were extraneous or a waste of time. I wouldnâ??t change or cut anything. |
| Everything was pretty interesting. |

21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
|
| Strong knowledge base around what he taught in, directed course around topics that he was knowledgeable about. |
| Up to date with current research & practice |
| The instructorâ??s objectives and grading system were very clear. He was friendly, approachable and
knowledgeable about the subject. |
| He stimulates discussion and gives constructive input. |
| The instructor was very organized and gave clear criteria and explanations for grading and assignments. Furthermore, when areas of class goals were not being met on an individual level, the instructor sent a cautionary email in order for students to compensate for their potential downfall. Also, the instructor actively encouraged class discussion and was never judgmental about comments that students made. |
| He has a very active intelligence.
Willingness to consider all viewpoints.
Knowledge of subject/field.
Willingness to find answers to questions when did not know them. |
|
|
22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| Include different perspectives on some of the more controversial issues in clinical psychology. |
| Student participation is a key component of this course. As someone who tends to think best in
quiet reflection, I would have appreciated receiving some of the discussion questions before class
(perhaps along with the reading assignments) so that I couldâ??ve had time to mull things over and
thus be a more active participant in class. |
| Everything seem good, just that I expected more courses taught on theories of clinical psychology but it was probably a misconception on how an intro to clinical course would be like. |
| Although the instructor does not like to share lecture notes, it would be good to have them ahead of time in order to elaborate on the slides versus writing important items down and engage in class discussion at the same time. |
| This was a very good course - the only thing I can think of that would be helpful would be more content on Hawaii's laws/guidelines regarding treatment of adults. |
