I enjoyed the class. The stock game in the class was fun to play with. it gave a first hand look at stocks and i loved it! thanks!!!
Lecture slides were poor and hard to follow. Professor has a hard time making class relative and interesting. Didn't learn much in this class and was overall was the least helpful of my 5 FIN courses.
Prof. Hunter is incredibly knowledgable and approachable. I always enjoyed going to his class. My only regret/criticism is that we only barely scratched the surface of his knowledge of finance, and I wish we could've learned more. A faster pace or deeper understanding of the concepts would've been nice.
This course was probably the most challenging that I've ever taken. Prof Hunter really expects a lot of his students, but I never felt like he was anything but encouraging or supportive of our education. I am really impressed with his teaching style and his commitment to making sure all of his students understand the material.
Overall, I enjoyed the course. I felt the group project was a bit rushed and unclear. The in class quizzes were helpful.
Needed more time for group project.
Excellent teacher. I want to take more of his classes.

I really appreciate how Professor Hunter is very willing to help out his students with their questions and office visits. I would take another class from him if I had the chance as his teaching style is also excellent and clear.
Even though it contained the majority of our grade, I felt we didn't have enough preparation for the security analysis project. Half the students didn't seem like they knew what they were doing--if it wasn't for the very intelligent people in my group, I wouldn't know either. There needs to be a more systematic way of helping the students through each part of the project. It would be helpful if more specific reading assignments were given. For instance, rather than just providing the required chapters, also provide the particular sections in those chapters that are relevant to the class. Time could be better allocated by setting aside a certain amount of time for questions in class and not taking questions except for that period. There were two students in particular who continued to ask irrelevant questions in class, thus cutting into class time. Because of the long digressions, we would often leave class having just a cursory discussion on the more important topics. Regardless, Dr. Hunter was a good teacher, and I learned a lot from his class.
Try walking or pacing around the classroom while lecturing, it may help to keep students "on their toes". When it comes to the big finance terms or concepts--simplfy it in a way that anyone can understand it. It was abit hard to digest and remember big terms or concepts, sometimes a bit confusing to understand. Also try to give students more opportunities to improve their grades, especially those who are struggling and are putting in their effort. I appreciate that you do your best to help the students understand the material, that is a sign of a good teacher. Much Thanks for a wonderful semester! Happy Holidays! "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." ~William Arthur Ward
Professor Hunter have demonstrated great concern for me outside and inside of class. He has a great background on Finance and he was able to provide us with his experience.
The hardest class of my semester. Forced me to learn a lot, but was still very tough. Would like the curve to be more of a bell curve as I believe there will always be one standout student to skew the curve with an outlier score.
Dr. Hunter is very knowledgeable and nice. He is very approachable and willing to help students out when they are stuck in the course subject. I am very pleased to have him as my teacher. The material covered in the course is little hard but he explains very well. He is also available outside of his class to answer questions and does really well answering questions. I can highly recommend him and his class.
Difficult class and subject matter but Hunter tries to relate the material in theory and tries to apply the concepts and theories to the real world.
Tough class, but a fun class. I would recommend his class to others. Materials covered in the class are at the very fundamentals of investing, so very useful in real life. It is nice now to be able to look at the financials of a company and have an idea of what they mean. He offers learning at a higher level, where the ball is in your court to push your own learning. He is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. Although for some constructive criticism, I wish he would give examples of personal experiences and knowledge, instead of a definition or in depth technical response to some questions. Over all a very good teacher, I enjoyed going to class.
One of the best course I have ever taken in Shidler
Needs to respond to e-mails more often.
Dr. Hunter is a good teacher who really knows his subject in finance. I really liked how Dr. Hunter was able to bring real examples to the classroom (e.g. how the stock market was performing, company examples, etc.). Dr. Hunter is also great at his office hours. He really knows how to break it down into a step by step explanation for us. Where I think the course could use improvements is having a bigger room offered for this course. It was hard to see Dr. Hunter's explanation on the board at times cause he had limited space to work with. The course could also use a more fair distribution of grading. A huge percentage (50%) were weighted on two exams. Homework was only 10%. I would distribute more percentage points on the homework. Also finance involves excel, provide assignments which require excel on it. Also please assign the group project earlier since we have a lot of of other material as well. Thank you for giving me a solid foundation in Finance. I can say with confidence I walked out with more knowledge.

14. Other comments:
This course was a lot more difficult than I imagined at the beginning. I would have liked more guidance with Bloomberg and some of the assignments. It was difficult to watch demonstrations on how to use B-berg and then have to use it without any formal training. I think it would have been more conductive to learning if there were some basic Bloomberg training sessions with each team practicing on a terminal. Although the best way to learn Bloomberg is to just get on it and start using it, I feel that it would help to have a more hands-on approach to simply get started and more familiar with it, before the portfolio project. Also I would have liked more structure with the assignments. Maybe more clearly laid out instructions would help with this, as my other classmates encountered the same issues. The course textbook was useful for the first 2-3 weeks and then after that it was not useful at all. It was difficult to attend lecture and then have nothing to go back to read and study. For students like myself who supplement lectures with reading/studying the topics it was really tough to not have a reliable textbook. Maybe combining topics/chapters from separate textbooks into one textbook covering all of our curriculum would be more conductive to learning. However, that requires a lot of work and might be expensive for students. Looking back at the course curriculum, it would be worth the extra $ to have a solid textbook. Despite some of the difficulties regarding initial Bloomberg use, and the lack of textbook, I am overall very pleased with this course and feel accomplished to have made it this far. The topics were pretty advanced, especially if we did not have a strong base. I can definitely say that I learned a lot. Thank you for the semester Professor Hunter!
best in-depth finance teacher.
I enjoyed the class. The project was useful to get experience with the Bloomberg. The homework was useful, but I felt like it didn't enough out of it to really internalize the material. I understood the big picture, but I kept feeling like I was missing something. I understand that math requirements are one constraint on the class at an undergraduate level. Presenting CFA questions could help because it would force students go through specific calculations or articulate concepts in writing. I felt like I learned more when I was preparing for the exams because I was trying to answer specific questions about the material with the study guide. Cases were good for understanding issues, but they could have been used to teach more. If possible, it would be very useful to require students to bring in a laptop or share one with a classmate and follow the steps required to answer the technical questions of cases. For example, in the Dynamis case, we could have created benchmarks for the fund in class and analyzed the performance while we discussed issues around performance measures.
Love Dr. Hunter's class!!!! He is very knowledgeable, and really helpful!!! It will be really hard to make any comments.... Sometimes, Dr. Hunter tried to give us lots of information in one class, and it made me feel overloaded .... Also, maybe get a better control on time tracking.
Not bad. Not my favorite project, but it wasn't too bad. The short homework assignments didn't seem to help too much though. Still, I think I got a fair bit out of the class, so no complaints.
Great Professor. Taking his course, prepared me for an entry level postion in finance. The class material covers portfolio theroy, trading strategies, and prepares the students for complex industry models. If you are taking the CFA exam, you should take this course. I very much enjoyed this professor and class.
I loved the class; it got a little crazy with the schedule changes and how fast we went through some of the material. I would have enjoyed a consistently updated online syllabus or schedule of some kind. The group discussions were wonderful, and really allowed us to dig into the topics and learn much more that we would have with a straight lecture course.

Great class!
Great teaching skills and a fun class.
Professor Hunter is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have had during all of my finance courses. His understanding of finance as a whole has encouraged me to become well versed in the subject material as well as knowing both sides of an issue when it comes to investing,
Professor Hunter has always been a favorite teacher. He holds an enormous amount of knowledge and experience in the subject matter; which makes learning much more enjoyable. Wonderful teacher!!
I learned a lot from this class and I hope that future students are given the opportunities to learn the things we did. Overall a great class...there was a lot of this class that I enjoyed and can apply to my future careers. Class has inspired me to start a small portfolio and see where it takes me. I have full confidence in my abilities as a student investor because of this class. Professor Hunter is really helpful whenever you need or ask for his help. He is always there to walk you through any misunderstandings.
Prof. Hunters knowledge of the subject matter was so deep that it often overwhelmed students. He is passionate about the subject matter and helped students to the best of his abilities at all times and really forced students to step back and understand the markets and fluctuations present in the world economy and how to calculate these returns and make capital gains. It was a great class that helped to bring about much greater understanding of how to manage/create a portfolio. 5/5
