13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
cares for his students, teaches them everything they need to know.
Connects well with students, and gives clear instructions.
Chef Warrens strengths were his attitude towards everything in general. he carries with him a "no fail" mentality that pushed every student in his class. Dealing with a class with very few students didn't stop him from finishing the task. And because he had such a great personality, it didn't take much effort to get help from students outside of class to help us if we needed it.
Chef Warren knew a lot about asian cuisine
Chef know a lot of knowledge and skills about culinary arts and Chef take care of all students. So, my class is very helpful and useful for me.
Chef Warren is very patient and understanding. He has a lot of knowledge about the subject.
He is well versed and knowledgable of his subject. He presents the course subject matter in an understandable fashion.
He is an outstanding teacher overall. Very understanding, helps us out with any issues even if not class related, etc..
Chef Warren knew the subject at hand.
Strong background in the topics covered; helpful, caring.
He has a lot of experience in the subject matter and provides a challenge for me and my fellow classmates.
Chef Warren's major strength as an instructor would be giving 1 on 1 time with the students who are really eager to learn more. Not only does Chef Warren provide 1 on 1 experience in class but also outside of class. Chef is always willing to teach students and answer any questions that students have. Although he may not have the answer on hand at first, he will find out the answer later.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He gave them opportunites to stay back and learn. He also took his time on teaching us everything we needed to know.
Always checked if students were good on prep.
Chef constantly told us what we needed to do to succeed not just in class but also in life. he would tell us what needed to be done and if we didn't understand, he would take the time to coach us until we got it.
He always reminded us about upcoming exams
He was always available to ask for help.
He constantly reminded the class that he had product available to practice with for the final, and was always willing to order more if need be.
Would always tell me to not rush to class when comming in late. most teachers i've had don't even care they just tell me to call them and yet still mark off points for comming in late. i can't help that i will be late. he also constantly reminded us about things to practice for our exam and gave us the time and tools to practice it. he even took the time to reteach it to us as well.
He always checked to see how we were doing, excused us if we had personal issues, and was all around understandable.
He was readily available if students needed help, and gave us extensions on assignments when our busy course load warranted them.
He gave extra credit and kept us updated with how we are doing in class.
Chef Warren showed concern for students by helping any group that was behind. Chef doesn't like it when everybody isn't prepped for service so he will jump in and help the groups that need help.

All around very good teacher and person.
Patience, kind, helpful
He is open to having his student give input on any techniques they learned outside of class, and gives us the option to do the demonstrations if we have previous experience with something. He gives us opportunities to practice techniques and make our own specials whenever we want(deboning chicken and making those sheets of daikon). He teaches us good work ethic and even came up with his own acronym. F.U.D. Focus, working with a sense of Urgency, and attention to Detail.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Just a little more structure.
None
Nothing
no changes.
N/a
Should make the class do more Daikon Katsuramuki, especially if it is on the practical exam.
None
Nothing... Chef warrens class is awesome. Best class ever!
We need to know the meaning of Three cup chicken! Maybe your TA's can help you with putting together your papers and thoughts for the 30 minute briefing at the beginning of each day, because there were a few days that seemed a bit unorganized. It might help to have a written agenda of what you plan to speak about to us. Just a basic outline of topics.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He's concerned for our well being as well as how we grow in his class.
Certian intangibles like love and care
He calls in spend on how they are doing. And also checks on the students during class and service.
always positive. ask him to take mr. Sato as a student.
Through mid mod reviews and constantly talking to us
N/A

Chef warren talks to the students before and after service. He disscuses what needs to be done and everything we have accomplished. He goes around the kitchen making sure we are okay. He always lends a helping hand and encourages us to think for ourselves. He gives us the ability to be creative.
Always there if you need him.
He would ask about studenthe health, answer emails
He always shows patience and leads by example in his own work ethic and enthusiasm.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, his teaching methods provide an excellent atmosphere for learning.
Yes because of his experience
Yes because he is a very good teacher and knew what he is doing.
yes He is the best.
Yes because he is very good teacher and truly knows what he is doing and loves what he does.
Yes, if going into culinary arts that is. I feel his class builds a sense of urgency as well as attention to detail. Dishes have a lot of individual components, something I would consider similar to that of Roy's or Alan Wong's. So if the person was looking for something of that caliber, I would definitely recommend him as a instructor.
Yes, I would recommend chef Warren to students.
Yes! He is a very respectful caring teacher. Always so happy and works very hard. He is the true meaning of a teacher. He is always the first one in and last one out making sure everything is good and in place. He makes learning fun. He is a very talented and skillful chef. Great way to learn.
Yes, very good teacher/chef.
Yes because he cares for each student
Definitely would, because we learn a lot about the culture and food of many different regions of Asia.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
If I could take this class again in an advance course, I would.
Thank you chef for a great module.
He is an awesome teacher!
positive super chef
Thank you chef!! Your class was amazing and I really learned a lot during these past 8 weeks

One of the best Chef Instructors to learn and gain knowledge of the culinary industry.
Hands down the most awesome chef ever!
Thank you.
Your the best chef!!! :)
I really appreciate the sense of respect that he shows to all of his students, which is very uncommon among the chefs out in the industry. It's a great mix of him having the knowledge and understanding of the industry, while maintaining the posture of a truly great teacher and leader.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Knew the subject well and is very friendly and easy to learn from
his understanding of the subject and inteest in the students
He was really supportive and made sure that you were on your tasks and duties. He also spent the time one-on-one when you needed the help on a specific task.
Chef warren is very encouraging to students. He is mostly accessible to the students. He is always open to questions and will help students.
He is familiar with Asian cuisine, so I can learn a lot.
He knows a lot of things in the kitchen. He always steered any questions toward the right answer.
Chef Warren is open to student input at any time and makes sure he is always available to the students for any questions. He encourages us to come up with our own creations. If he is unsure about a particular topic he is able to find someone that specializes in it to help give us more insight to it.
Communication. As a student I was able to understand the guidelines of the class and expectations. Throughout class everything was clear and grades were graded fairly and promptly. Chef Warren communicates every day before class, in the kitchen, and after class. We were updated day by day about our menu. The class is so complex but it ran pretty smoothly compared to the chaos I would expect.
The way he taught the class. He had his techniques and instructions, however a student for example had learned a different way to do it, he would be open to listen instead of claiming his way is absolute. He also had a lot of experience in the industry so he knew what to do in different situations.
His creative ideas and presentation for the dishes and recipes.
His past experiences in hotels and other high-end establishments gives him the skill, knowledge, and techniques that exceed other chefs, making him a excellent culinary instructor.
Very knowledgeable, patient, hard-working, organized, kind, and polite. In general, Chef Warren Uchida clearly portrays his experience to the students and simultaneously encourages students to learn, as well as overcome any difficulties.
he understands the students
He knows what he is talking about and a very good instructor.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
More special dishes should be pushed to students to help them think for themselves
time management. The class is scheduled until a certain time but always runs late.
I believe that the class was just right. Not too challenging and not too easy. No changes.
Cleaning jobs for groups.
Nothing special..
The importance of getting out of class on time.
It would help to make the class go a lot smoother if he was more organized on a day to day basis during service weeks. It could also help if he demands more respect from the students instead of waiting for them to realize that they are taking up the class's time.
Theirs nothing I'd really change. Chef Warren is in before, during, and after class. He basically lives in the classroom, kitchen, and his office cause you can always find him when you need him. He dedicates all his time to help us grow if we agree to take the initiative to do our part.
none.
A mandatory incorporation of the items on the practical examination into the menu for service, i.e. katsura-muki. Expanding the size of the sushi roll slices to slightly more manageable cuts. Emphasis on teamwork on the wok station as each dish requires several different cooking methods; revision on the instructions on the wok recipes - emphasis on seafood, as the current recipe asks for the seafood to be cooked first, then the vegetables, along with the inclusion of the ginger- scallion pesto to be the same time with the item that it coats, increasing the likelihood of it carbonizing (especially the pasta) compared to if placed at the very end. One small change on the ragout recipe for the duck some students forget the mentioning of sesame oil as seasoning - they either try to cook in it instead of the salad oil, or add it in too late or too early.
There are no changes I can suggest at this time.
na
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always asked how you were doing and was willing to help as much as possible
yes, always followed up
He took the time to bring us in his office to have evaluations. This was a great time to express any comments or concerns and was updated with grades.
He always greets students and ask how are they. Talking TJ students to see how they are doing not only in class but outside of class as well. I. E. Checking to see if students are not stressed from class load.
He is one of the best teachers in KCC.
He always made time to answer questions and gets a lot of support from from prior students.
He asks how students are doing all the time to make sure he can offer any help.
He speaks to the class every day before and after class to discuss and concerns and upcoming events. He also set time aside to conduct evaluations towards the end of service to show us where we're standing. When ever we did something right or sees improvement, he praised up. Everytime he sees us do something difficult, it shows us techniques to be better. E acts upon the spot and doesn't hesitate to respond to our wants and needs.
One on one talks/evaluations.
He always answered his cell phone when I called and made sure everyone of us carried equal weight in our groups when working together.
By never turning away a student when he/she asked for assistance, even sometimes when he had his hands occupied.
Chef Warren was very patient and understanding towards any and all student concerns throughout the semester.
ask question showed compashion

I definitely would recommend Chef Warren. He has by far has got to be one of the best instructors I've ever had. I never had a teacher who cared so much about how I'm doing in the class and so eager to see me grow. He asks me frequently how am I doing everyday. That he should continue teaching because he makes the class fun
He is a kind and patient man and a good teacher who is always willing to go above the normal if you want to learn
Chef Warren has been a great professor and was very supportive. He would always come in to campus and was available almost from 7am-10pm every day
Thank you for teaching us
I like his cooking style.
Thank you chef.
Chef Warren is a good instructor that could just use a little more help and experience in teaching. He is knowledgeable and has a lot of experience in Hawaii's foodservice industry.
He is an amazing teacher and I'm glad I got the chance to take his class. He's very humble about his past experiences and enjoys sharing his past stories to help us improve and have a better idea of our career goal. I appreciate all he's done for me.
I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I would be willing to take the class again because I had a pleasurable experience, but it wasn't a "cake walk" either, and there was a good amount of difficulty.
He is very understanding and patient.
He should stay at KCC until he decides to retire, as the students really need him.
A Great Chef and Instructor.
Keep up the great work chef. Inspire and teach more students to become great chefs.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Chef Warren connects with his students and treats them fairly. If we have a question he is right there to answer it. He is always available to talk to about school or to even chat about the culinary industry. I also like to say that I enjoy his dishes and flavors.
He's great
he knows his subject area and willing to not only teach but learn himself
Chef Warren's biggest strength as a instructor is his kindness and the way he cares about everyone learning while students are in his class is something to praise and give credit for. He cares about his students a lot, more than himself and he wants everyone to do well and be the best in their positions at the moment and in the future.
His concern for his students
Very Patient and informative
Chef warren is very nice and approachable. He respect his students and concern about his student.
Very good with hands-on work, knowledge of subject area, and teaching students how to work confidently on their own.
He is very kind and nice
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would change the organization of things. Especially the cleaning duties and responsibilities. Other than that I think that his class has nothing to change.
He good
i don't not have any
I would like him to organize the course little bit more precisely, it is hard to do that and control all of the students at the same time but by getting the course set for eight weeks for students to follow will help him to organize students much easier as class begins each and every semester.
Nothing
smaller class is better because everyone can have more input for the class and more hand on experience.
Improve the way of receiving and printing out the recipes for class, updating the class better on due dates for work.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern by always being there to answer our questions. He always checked up on us and was always out helping to prep, clean or whatever.
Always teaching and willing to push you further.
if one of us was out he asked why and if anyone knew he understands that sometimes we have to leave early because we live far away and have an early class
He asked students constantly and he was willing to help us all the time whenever we needed help. Progress report of talking to each student during half of the module was very good for him to do and for students as well.
Always asked if we are OK when we look tired and down
Takes time to teach students individually depending on their needs
He will check with his student and concern about their life and work and how it affect their school. He care about his class and students.
Being there whenever I didn't know how to do something.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Caring, fun, loving, strict,
Chef Warren is very skilled and always has an answer for our questions. He also explains how he wants us to cook and cut things.
He is the best instructor ever!
Knowledge of Asian cookery
Chef Warren is a delight to work and learn under. The class is fun, engaging, and challenging and we learn a lot.
He really knows his subject. Even though his the instructor his still willing to learn something new and if a student knows the subject matter more he lets the student step up and teach the class
Chef Warren is really a fun, positive person as an instructor. He always make sure that we learn something in class, always show concern to all his student.
Great teacher
Chef warren is a wealth of info and is a great instructor. Easy to talk to and work with
CHEF WARREN IS THE BEST CHEF IN THIS SCHOOL NOT ONLY DID I LEARN A LOT BUT I APPRECIATED FOOD MORE BECAUSE OF CHEF.
Chef Warren's major strengths as a teacher is that he's really dedicated in teaching. Eventhough his class doesn't start until 2:30pm I would see him on campus at 8am when I was taking another class lab. Also, Chef Warren knows his stuff about the Asian/Pacific cuisine.
He loves helping out his students to finish their task.
Chef Warren can reach anybody. What ever I might be going through Chef Warren is there. He is a awesome teacher. I have learned a lot from Chef Warren easy to understand and he explain clearly and is always checking on us. I think Chef Warren strengths as a teacher is making everything easy to understand at every level you may be. What helps the class is Chef Warren always goes over the daily task for the day.
He knew the subject area very well and explained the various recipes in depth. He also relates to his students very well. He's an authority figure that guided us throughout the course effectively.
I believe a strength would be that he is very attentive to his students. He makes sure everyone is fair, looks upon everyone individually aside from in groups, and that he takes care of problems as best he could when things get tricky.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Homemade poi? Longer class periods? Less banquets
No changes necessary.
No changes whatsoever. Keep up the excellent work, Chef!
Nothing wish service was longer but nothing we can do about that
Nothing
N/a
Maybe if we could have more covers

There nothing that needs to be changed.
I would that there is nothing to change the way he teaches his students.
He is perfect as he is. I just love Chef Warren I don't want to leave his class.
NO CHANGES. Team Chef Warren all the way!
I don't have any suggestions.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
When students had problems with tests, he worked with them. Pushed us harder Asked our opinions on banquets and service
He always went around each station, checking if we needed help.
Chef did progress evaluations and really tried to get to know each of us individually. He was constantly present to answer questions and give feedback as well as being encouraging and approve if our interests and learning.
His always there for everyone
Always ask how we doing, make sure that we get everything done.
Always helpful
Chef contributed to several fundraising events with his time and talent
VERY GOOD
Chef Warren shows concern for the students by constantly reminding us to do our quizes/test/hw before the deadline. Also, hes always constantly asking if we are okay, if we have any questions, if we need help on something, he's always there.
Since I live far away from my school and no transportation, he would let me leave early.
I had a problem with my PTSD, so I was freaking out and Chef Warren listened and comfort me say everything going be okay. He is very concerned with each student. He shows compassion and he understand that we sometime have problems and he is there to assist.
He would show his concern by letting us know that if we had any questions, we could ask without hesitation. A couple of students took on this offer and he was more than willing to help.
Chef Warren really looks out for his students. He makes sure everyone does their assignments and if not, will go after them until it is taken care of. He understands the technological issues that arise when taking the online quizzes, so communicates to those who need the extra time to complete the quizzes. This applies to the reflections and research projects as well. He is a very understand and fair chef.
