13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Professor Brayton's major strengths as a teacher are: - explained each of the chapters well - provided clear examples - relate the concept to real life - experiment that he showed to the class were very cool
He tries to make it fun
He knows his stuff!
He knows his material
Professor Brayton is very organized and efficient. He provides all his power points and resources on laulima so we have access to what we did in class if we were not able to make it.
He knows the material very well, brings in materials for demonstrations
he's young, so he's like a student. I guess he gets us because he's kind of easy going. he's not some hard ass teacher that gives us a lot of work. he's somewhat lenient. he's kind of boring sometimes, but he did some fun stuff like the liquid nitrogen experiment he did in class.
He talks about chemistry as if it's his passion. The next Bill Nye
He knows he's topic very well. He responds back to us ASAP.
Able to explain concepts in a way we could all understand.
He's a fun teacher, and he's young, so he's very understanding. He's also very smart and knows his stuff so when theres any confusion, he can relate the topic to a real life scenario, making chemistry understandable
His lectures are well organized and has helped me to better understand the material.
he was very into the subject.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None. He is a good teacher.
Nothing I can think of
None
Explains some material more fluently
N/a.
Try not to read off the powerpoint or have students work problems on the board
maybe some extra credit to improve our exam score. he gives those extra credit questions on the exam but those extra credit questions were tough.
Spending more time on the slides, allowing more conversation.
The material, the book was so unrelatable to real life, Daniel Brayton had to scrap some examples given and replace them with things we would actually use in real life.. the fact that he could do this, really helped... but that book needs to go!
Make longer study guides for more practice. Instead of the online homework give homework assignments because I honestly thought the way he structured his questions on the exams were must different. Also it was hard sometimes to answer problems on the mastering chemistry which became time consuming.
was actually pretty good but chem in general seems to be a harder subject.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Professor Brayton showed concern to his students by confirming them their grades and if they needed help, he would try his best to explain it.
Shows the schedule every class
He made himself available via email and by appt.
Fair
Professor Brayton is very easy to contact and he emails back very fast.
He was very accessible outside of class, easily approachable
i'm not sure if anyone really came to him, but he does offer help outside of class.
He was always available
He would always tell us to see him when we needed help. And when I would email him, he would email me back right away.
Questions on the quizzes to get to know us.
He we accessible outside of class and responded to emails promptly, and explained things in diferent ways to cater to the student.
Always asked questions and stressed if we needed help to ask.
he was willingly trying to make it so that we could understand clearly
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend Professor Brayton to students because he explains every chapters very well and provided examples that are relatable to the topic.
Yes, He's an easy going teacher.
Yes, he's a good teacher. He's very willing to give help if you need it.
Yes
Yes I would. He is a great teacher and his class is very fun.
Depends on their learning style. His class can be an independent learning, but you have to be genuinely concerned about your grade and learning the material. Take advantage of office hours.
yes
yes. hes a cool teacher
Yes, I would recommend other students to him because he's a chill professor. But even if he's chill he knows his chemistry which is a good thing. And also the quizes and tests are really easy. He doesn't give a question on the test that he didn't discuss in class.
Yes.
I would if you're a student who wants to learn from a teacher, the book itself is very confusing, but his examples are helpful
Yes, overall he is a great teacher and sets his standards for the class from the start. He really gives you a good foundation if you are planning on taking a higher chemistry course.
yeah he is a pretty fun teacher
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
His a cool teacher.

Had study guides with practice questions and answers available.
Very knowledgeable about chemistry!
he knows he's area. awesome chemistry teacher. very fair
Chemistry is a difficult subject, and Dr. Brayton has a great way of making it easy and enjoyable to understand!
He was very knowledgeable of his subject,
He has a good sense of humor, which brought comic relief to the class.
That he knew the subject that he was teaching and relating it to real life things.
Major strengths are breaking down the material step by step. Writing examples on the board then explaining it thoroughly. Also, teaching us how to use the periodic table correctly.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
He should speak/explain slower
Wished he was a bit more organized. Maybe come up with some lessons that aren't based on the book.
none
None
I would suggest to change his teaching style a bit every so often. The lectures can get very repetitive.
nothing much he's a great teacher, maybe getting classes at a later time but thats unclass related.
N/A
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
help answered questions that were asked and helped out with homework problems that were hard and confusing.
He met people outside of class to help them
Graded on a curve
He communicates well with students. He emails back within 24 hours which is good.
he always reminds us to do the online homework because it would help boost up our grade
He would do his best to give visual examples and apply chemistry to real life. It made everything make more sense.
Email.questions in class. Office hours
he would help out his students any way he could meaning he would stay back and tutor showing concern.
When struggling on a problem he would help us better understand it. In addition, he would go over some of the homework problems that we may have difficulty on. Also, gave us study guides and later posted the answers so we can review our work.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, he is a fun and cool teacher.
Yes because he's cool
Yes
Sure, he's pretty chill and in order to pass the class you'd have to attend the lectures, take quizzes, exams, and do online homework.
Yes, he is really awesome teacher. He makes learning fun
Absolutely! He is a great professor!
Yes, he's funny in class explains his subject very well
I think it depends on the person I am recommending him to. His Chem 100 class maybe easy and straightfoward, however I did think he fully prepares students who intend to pursue upper level Chemistry courses.
yes very nice guy and hilarious!
Yes because he's a very easy going, approachable, helpful teacher that would help us in every possible way to better our understanding in Chemistry.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Good job
Good Class
Made realistic choices like how certain sections would not relate to us because there is no lab or because most of us are nursing majors.
Thanks for making the chemistry class fun and chill although its really hard to wake up early in the morning.
Have a great summer Dan
He had some weird, quirky survey question for the class in every exam. That was pretty cool.
thank you Dr. Brayton it's been nice having you as my teacher for my class very funny!
Overall, very good teacher I've had this semester.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knew the subject area very well and was able to explain it in a way that was easier to understand.
Speaks clearly/well. Relates concepts that are difficult to understand with "everyday" things making them easier to understand/grasp. He understood that we had an early class and was very considerate. i can't recall him ever being late this semester. and always reminded us via email if there was no class. Responds to email quickly. Provides good practice tests.
he knows his subject really well.
Ontime
His major strength is the love of the subject. He knows his subject very well.
Because he specializes in the field in which he teaches, he is very passionate about what he teaches and makes sure that the examples he gives are understandable and clear.
He knows that subject matter.
He really knows what he is talking about and it is apparent that he has a true passion for the subject he is teaching.
Easy to talk to. Really smooth in his lectures. Keeps things interesting
Very organized!
very knowledgeable...knows the material well...gives out examples...he is somewhat funny...
His experience in chemistry
Very kool professor and easy to talk to.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
NONE
I don't have any changes, the class was great.
More examples
Do not just run/read through the power points no one in the class understood the material really well. Its a lot of material but more time needed to be spend on areas that included equations. STOP making you own days off it takes away from our class time, with that much material to cover class time is perious.
None
Less lectures :'(
I enjoy this course as it is.
his teaching style...maybe because it's an early class...but at times he seems timid and tired...also his writing sucks...can't understand whenever he writes notes on the board...he is all over with his notes...not organize at all...
Nothing, everything is good
None
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
always encouraged asking questions if you didnt understand something.
he update his grade book and return quizzes so we know what we are getting in class. he encourage students to do online homework. he always ask students if they have any questions in class.
ask questions
He would email all of us or he would talk stories to us before class started.
He welcomes students to come for help. Responds quickly to emails.
I feel like the only thing that help was that we were able to do quizzes as group work it help us to understand the class material better.
He was always available through Email and would respond quickly. He also took questions after class was through.
Quick response to emails
he gives out examples has study guides for the exam...although his exams are still tricky and hard at times...overall he seems like he cares about how well we do in that class because he seems lenient...
He never give the stress to students.
He reply quickly if I have question through e-mail regarding about the class.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. He provides good examples and his exams and tests are based on his lecture and notes.
Yes, because he provides a great learning environment that involves class participation.
yes. he knows his subject really well. he shows power point slides in class and give students study guides so they know what to expect in the exam. similar questions.
yes-gets work done
Yes, I would recommend him. He's a really good teacher.
Yes, I would very much so would recommend him to other students, he is very passionate of what he teaches and makes it evident through his lectures. You learn a lot.
NO, bad teaching stay and althought he gives practice exams they only help with half to a quarter of what actually on the exam.
Yes, he made learning the subject fun.
Definitely!
i'm not sure...maybe..depends on the person...this is an independent kind of class (learning on your own)...he does teach but he is confusing...
Sure, I don't feel stress to study in his class.
Absolutely!
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
nice teacher
He's a fun and entertaining teacher.
Good teacher, just wished he taught more classes.
can't think of anything else..
Daniel is the best teacher in KCC.
Hope he teaches Chemistry 161 and 162 at Kcc.
18. Other comments:

Greaaaaaat teacher!
A method for his course that I found very helpful was to print out the power point slides and have them when you go to class and take notes directly on them that way you wont have to scramble to write everything down.
none
Keep going, Don't give up teaching
I usually dont like mychemistry class in high school but since I took his class I begin to love it. I'm so interested to learn more about chemistry.

um.........
He asked if we had any questions.
He answers all of our questions patiently and uses multiple methods of illustrating a concept until everyone gets it.

30. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is a nice guy. He did not teach Chemistry 162 well. He used a different textbook for lectures than that of the required book for the class. He is not able to clearly explain complex ideas (maybe due to time restrictions).
I think Brayton a pretty cool guy. eh makes fun of alcoholics and doesn't afraid of anything.
Grading system not accurate, it's practically based on "whatever he wants to do"...
31. Other comments:
He should not read slideshow slides taken from a textbook out loud following with a laser pointer. He should not face his back to the class. He should focus on preparing students for the final exam.
I felt as if this teacher was very unengaged and unhelpful.

16. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I think he relates to the students well. He has an easy going personality and that makes him much more approachable for a student.
He is very free and individualizes each students own learning into a self-reliant status and still offers assistance to them when needed.
Mr.Brayton is a friendly and funny guy.
His major strentghs were he was very knowledgable about chemistry. He answered back promptly to emails. He graded exams fast so you got your grades back fast.
he's knowledgable in the subject he's teaching.
He knows a lot about chemistry. But too much sometimes and it made it more confusing than it needed to be.
he knows his subject well
17. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
More hands on learning.
N/A
No changes, awesome class.
Classes were very boring because he just read off of the power points every class. Even the way he spoke was very monotone and made the class even more boring. I would have to say think of another way to get your students attention more and make learning a little more interesting. I didn't learn anything in that class.
encourage more class participation.
Speak up, Read the powerpoints before class instead of looking at them for the first time WHILE teaching the class. Don't make everything so complicated and don't assume the students "already know" what you're talking about. Also, there was a statement made at the beginning of class that the conversion factors would Maybe allowing a 3x5 card or having a Jeopardy style review would help students to memorize the formulas better. Also, there are no opportunities for extra credit, as well as no homework. Our grade was only based on tests. Some students are bad test takers and it creates more anxiety when your grade is based on only 4 tests.

to interact with the class more. be more hands on with the material that he's teaching. i felt like i had to teach myself the whole semester!!!!

19. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Emails students promptly upon missing exams and offers retakes almost immediately.
Mr. Brayton recommended tutors that were available in KCC if we were to need additional help.
His communication via email was very good but in class it seemed like he was just going through the lesson and not really paying attention to how the class was reacting to his lectures.
He answered questions when asked.
always informed us about the grades, prints out practice exams for us to study, responds to emails quickly
i didn't see him show any concern!!!
20. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
If you're the type of student who would rather study at home then I would recommend him. The class is mostly based upon lecture which is taken from Laulima. In that case, you don't necessarily have to attend class. It is without consequence if you feel that you can study on your own.
Yes, I'd recommend this instructor to students. Theres a great atmosphere here.
I would not recommend this instructor because chemistry is a tough subject for me and this instructor showed no real interest in making classes more interesting for his students. I had a hard time learning from him because he spoke softly during class and I couldn't really understand anything he was teaching me. I ended up trying to teach myself by reading the book which was why I ended up doing bad in this class.
No, I felt like he was too in depth. This is a basic chemistry class and most are taking it just to satisfy a requirement. I felt like things weren't explained very well.
yes, because he makes everything straight forward so its easier to understand
NO sorry i wouldn't!!!
21. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
N/A
He doesn't like peanut butter sandwiches.
I think he just needs to have a better approach at teaching his students. Many of his students ended up not attending his classes or dropping out of it because he was not a good teacher.
I think as he gains more experience and gets a little more used to teaching he will be good. It seemed to me like maybe he was recently out of school and hadn't quite gotten into the groove that many of my other professors do.
very good professor.
i hope you improve next semester!!!!
