13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
|
| Learning both the policy-making and science of air pollution problems. |
| I really enjoyed the class discussions where we would divide into groups. It helped me to further
the information that we have learned in class and apply it to real world problems. I think that
dividing up into smaller groups encourages students to talk because it is less intimidating that
talking out while the whole class is having a discussion. |
| Even though this class was completed in a short time, I learned a lot and deepened my interest in atmospheric pollution. |
| Urban Air pollution, and controls. |
| Everything we talked about applies to everyday life (we all breathe air) |
| The whole course was valuable!!! I definitely learned a LOT. |
| I think one of the most valuable aspect is the way in which the material is taught. Dr. Eisinger emphasizes the importance of critical thinking and analysis which is paramount in forming a good case or argument for or against something. Not only do we learn a great deal about the subject itself, but we also learn a wide variety of other skills such as risk analysis, problem approach, and critical thought; all of which can be applied to many other fields, regardless of how unrelated they may be.
Another valuable aspect of this course is that we learn how to think about these issues not only in the local, but also in the transnational context. We were presented with many real-world case-studies from all around the world which served to enhance our overall learning experience of the subject. |
| seeing daily info, and up to date problemsgoing on in our world. what impacts we have globally |
| Everything was very interesting |
| relating the course material to current events and learning how to relate past policies to future dilemmas with climate change. |

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
|
| Coolest teacher I've had so far in my college career. |
| Great teacher and lectures. |
| better instructions on how to write memos and perhaps a grading rubric. Eisinger often took off
points for things he had not explained were required. |
| adding more materials on climate change. |
| More time to work on group projects in class |
| Try to make it a little more interesting. |
| ... this course was awesome. |
| While Dr. Eisinger did an exceptional job at teaching this course, my only recommendation would be to better utilize available technologies such as the various Laulima software modules in order to facilitate online discussion, assignment submission, announcements, and other tools to make the materials more accessible (HW instructions, syllabus, etc.). |
| lesson the load of work, it was way to overwhelmin for a student. I understand that it was a fast course but he could have lesson the work load. I feel that this course should be more about understanding concepts and real impacts, then being able to graduate as an english major. |
| I think the course is great, its hard to suggest anything else, everything
was interesting and I always wanted to know more. |
| I would have loved to learn more about climate relating to Hawaii. |
|
|
24. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
|
| good professor that shows a lot of knowledge, passion, and motivation about the topic. |
| I really enjoyed Dr. Eisinger as a professor. He made the class very interesting and enjoyable to
learn. I liked the fact that he wrote everything down on a chalkboard and interacting with the
information that he was providing rather than mindlessly reading off powerpoint slides. This
engaged the students and stimulated them to constantly write notes instead of dozing off looking
at slides. |
| Very good professor. Very organized, fair, and helpful professor. |
| Really great teacher and insightful lectures. Homeworks and projects fitted perfectly with the lectures, all linking to important key concepts. |
| great professor! |
| Fantastic! I wish I could take more classes from him. |
| he is well organized and earnest. he teaching method is interesting and
covers a lot of pertinent topics. He is friendly and honest to students. He is
a good professor. |
| Awesome |
| Awesome teacher. Approachable. Knowledgeable. Really challenged me to think. Respectable.
Super nice guy but Definitely not an easy grader, still learned a lot regardless!!! |
| Dr. Eisinger taught this course with outstanding professionalism (actually one of the best I've seen here at UH) and exceptional enthusiasm. He is a very effective communicator who knows how to engage students in critical discussion of the subject matter. An outline was given at the beginning of each discussion in order to paint the roadmap of what was to be covered, which I thought was very helpful.
I wish more of my professors here at the university could communicate as effectively and enthusiastically as Dr. Eisinger does... Seriously a very impressive teaching of the material. It is clear the Dr. Eisinger has mastered the art of instruction. |
| he has knowledge on this topic for miles, hes a very upbeat personallity and strict with due dates, which is great for a prof, but he should be understanding if there was a personal problem, or sensative family issue. |
| I think that even though Doug is not a full-time professor, he does an
amazing job teaching this atmospheric pollution class. I would recommend this
class to anyone whether they are an environmental studies major or not. I
learned a lot of real world issues that I believe everyone should know. |
| Professor Eisinger is a great professor who seems to genuinely care for his students and their success. |

29. My overall evaluation of this course is...
|
| I highly recommend this course to students, both environmental studies and general majors. This
course gives an overview of what types of air pollution problems that Hawaii, the U.S., and the
world faced in the past, present, and future. |
| This course is very interesting and a little challenging but nothing no one can handle. |
| Great class overall |
| Wonderful! |
| Excellent. |
| Good |
| Awesome course. Learned tons. I would definitely recommend to other students!!! |
| Great! |
| Take it because you learn a lot but not if you are a full time student or have a job |
| great course. one of the most influential courses I have ever taken. |
| The course was very interesting. However, some sections seemed a little repetitive. I think the group projects would be more interesting if each group focused on a different case study, or possibly a different control that China put into place to determine which was more effective? Nonetheless, I enjoyed the course and the professor! |

30. Other comments:
|
| Please be more clear about what you want in memos. This was the first time I have written that way
and found it very difficult to take a lot of information and hope that what I saw was important was
also what you saw as important. |
| Keep it up, and keep improving it even more. |

| Dear Professor Eisinger thank you! |
| this class takes a lot of your time, not for the weak.............. overall I think Doug is the perfect person to teach this because he is very passionate about this topic, and gets you to understand whats going on in the world.
thanks again prof Eisinger :) |
| I really respect Doug for all that he knows in relation to air pollution. I
have a completely different view on subjects related to air pollution after
taking this course. Doug has kept the class very interesting and always
tries to have class engagement. I really like the class involvement because
it gives me an idea if i am understand the material correctly. Doug is a
great professor! |
