25. Which things, if any, do you think your instructor did especially well?
He really creates a comfortable environment to study and encourages seeing him outside of class for help. He knows his subject well, pointing out important and useful functions.
Russell always responds to emails and phone calls. It's a must for students who work full-time and can't always meet at his office.
Russell takes the time to clearly help with problems by explaining the step-by-step process. He always asks if we understand and will continue to help until we do understand.
He is very supportive and welcomes any questions. He is very patient and willing to go over it till you get it.
Russell Adkins explained the subject very well. I learned a great deal which I attribute to his teaching style. I anxiously await taking classes with him in future semesters as I feel I will get more out of them with him as my teacher.
Russel was great and answered every question. Learned alot.
26. Comment on the instructor's concern for the students.
He emphasizes his availability at anytime via phone or email, or visiting him after work. He really cares for his students, taking to people who really need help.
He makes sure we understand even if we should know it by now, and he will make the time to help you see your mistakes without telling you so that he can see if we understand.
Very concerned for the overall learning experience of each individual student.
Russell responds to questions asked both in class and by e-mail. He wants his students to understand the material for future use in life situations using Quickbooks.
He has genuine concern for the students in the class and would like to see everyone succeed.
He genuinely shows concern for his students. He makes himself available at any time for help. I myself have taken him up on his offer. He helped a great deal.
Always there when you need help.
Russell is a good teacher, treat students what they need and individually.
27. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
He's one of my favorite professors with a wealth of knowledge and humor. He is able to break the typical rigid professor/student atmosphere and make it more comfortable and friendly.
He is very informational and uses real life experiences and encourages us all the time and always available.
I like his style of teaching and will take future courses he teaches if they are toward my goal.
one of the best instructors I've had in my three years as a student at UHMC
I give him a solid 10 out of 10.

AWESOME!!!!
Excellent teacher with a great teaching style. His real life experience in accounting shows in how he teaches his class.

He manages to take a topic that appears both hard to understand and boring and expose the reasoning and importance of it without putting the class to sleep.
Overall, Russell Adkins is very knowledgeable and he uses real life experiences or scenarios. I'd take any class from him again!
This is by far the best teacher i have experienced at MCC. I especialy like how he tied in real world examples into his lectures.

He shows real concern for the success of the students, readily available and willing to make appointments for individual needs. I feel because of this concern for student success, he makes the tests a little too easy. He tells us the underlining concepts for certain tax laws, but doesn't ask for this knowledge on tests, instead giving only basic questions that ask for formulas.
He always responds to emails promptly and is available when you need to meet one on one.
Russell is always available to help his students. He does whatever it takes to make sure his students are taken care of

A great teacher with expert knowledge of his subject area and an ability to teach it to clueless students.
He cares that we learn and he should continue being an instructor at UHMC!

29. Other comments:
Mr Adkins is an excellent instructor and a wonderful person. He definitely knows his Job as an CPA and knows how to teach it! I must say that a Federal Tax Course is boring plus for it to be 6-9pm at night, some students are about ready to retire for the night but he manages to keep us alert and involved. He has energy for teaching and enjoys helping his students. He is always approachable. When we understand and grasp something his eyes light up. Many of us enjoy his class. He is a wonderful asset to Maui College. I am hoping to have MORE of an option to elect him as my instructor for classes.
A handout covering major points of interest specific to what is going to be covered in each lecture would be helpful so that we students would have something to follow. This would also help us to be able to measure our progress and get an idea of where we need improvement.

Russell is a very good accounting teacher and knows his subject well. He tries to put things in different ways to help us understand which I feel helped me succeed in his class.

I thought Russell made himself available for extra help. He did his best to make some dull material as interesting as possible.
Russell made sure the students understood the material at the time it was discussed and reviewed before moving on to another subject. He also used current real life events and examples to explain the accounting field.

Mr. Adkins is a great teacher he goes the extra mile to make sure that all those that need his help get it
Very concerned with students and constantly tells them to come in for help. He also constantly checks in to see if homework was completed and asks many questions to get the students thinking and involved in the class.
He has a genuine concern for his students and its clear that he wants them to succeed. He was always available for help, especially if the students had made some kind of effort.
Russell encouraged us to contact him outside of class via e-mail or during his office hours about questions and concerns that we may have had regarding the material.

Great teacher, and enjoyed seeing things from a real life perspective and how he was able to relate the work in class to his experience as an accountant in Hawaii. Which gives a great insight to students who would like to continue in the field.
He's a solid instructor, he actually cares about his students ability to grasp the concepts and acknowledges that while this isn't everyone's favorite class, he tries to make the material applicable to our every day life.
I learned a great deal in Accounting 201 and it was due to Russell's teaching ability and style and his knowledge in the field. I plan to attend future classes he will teach.

Getting to every point & breaking down the chapter until we fully understood. Making time for us before class if we have any question & during class. Explained what he wanted from us & made sure that we all pass the class.
Russell does a great job explaining the material to everyone in the class. If you still don't understand the material, he takes the time to go over it with you before or after class.
Considering I took the 6-9pm accounting class, he was able to keep me interested. His humor helped the time pass and his well prepared agenda made each class invaluable.
Mr. Adkins uses the tools provided to him (overhead,internet,blackboard) very effectively. He is willing to invest his own personal time tohelp his students, and is genuinely interested in making sure we leave his class with skills and knowledge that we will need to move on. He has a lot of information to go through but makes good use of class time and makes sure to emphasize critical parts. Lastly he is very fair in his grading and treatment of students.
You always took the time to break things down further so that we truly understand it.
I think that the teacher really made himself available to all the students outside of class to help with problems on the homework or questions in general about the material.
Russell Adkins made sure that all his students were understanding well...as long as they came to him with questions. He doesn't pressure a student and he lets them know every class that you can reach him if you are having problems. During the middle of the semester I had a problem personally that affected my Exam #2 grade and he was aware of it. He let me know that if I needed extra help I could always email him. Every class he always lets students know that if they need the help he will provide it.
I think he did everything well.

By the way he teaches & the time he makes to meet with us shows he cares.
I truly believe that Russell cares about the students learning & understanding of the material. He's willing to work with you one on one if you need the help; even if it means meeting outside of class.
He didn't have a permanent office I could go to, but he tried to make himself available as much as possible.
Very attentive to all the students. If you couldn't address the concern at the time someone brought it up you made sure to catch them later to make sure it was settled.
He is really concerend with us understanding the subject matter. He tries to help all of us pass the class, but wants to make sure we understand the material.
If he knows you are having trouble he will do what he can to help you.

If i could grade Adkins I'd give him a A+++. He really is a great teacher & loves teaching. If any student were to ask me who they should take for Accounting I would recommend him without hesitation.

I think Mr. Adkins is doing a great job. His knowledge of the subject matter is excellent and his ability to make his class a lot more interesting is really appreciated. He is diffinitely an asset to this campus.

This was a hard class and I think all teachers would have their own style of teaching it. What was weird: It's weird to have to do the homework for a chapter you haven't even covered in class. Normally you cover it in class, learn the concept then do the homework. That was tricky for me. Also, it would have been very helpful to do a quiz, maybe even 1 a week on the previous concepts to ensure all students are learning, and understanding, as well as keeping attendance. I think that this class was taught well and Russell is a great teacher, but with those changes I know it could have helped myself as well as other students out.
He is a great teacher and would like to take another one of his classes.
The next accounting class that I take I will make sure he is the teacher. =)

Russell has always gone out of his way to help students out. I am one of the students that is unable to attend his weekly session due to class schedule conflict. So i e-mail him instead of my questions, he takes the additional time to answer all my e-mails. He is very thorough in his lecture. And very good a figuring out his students when something he is explaining does not make sense. then he goes back and explain it as detailed as he can. Thanks!!!

Overall he was a very good instructor. He was patient answering every question that we had and encouraged us to do our homework so that we could practice applying everything we learned in class.
I honestly didnt like this class very much.. it was very difficult and i felt he could have done better making things easier for us...

His instructions were mostly talks in the class room. I wanted to practice excises of problems. I couldn't get his explanations many times, but when he gave us example problems, I understood smoothly.
I enjoyed this class and I think he is a good teacher.
The hands-on learning with the forms towards the end of the semester was really good. Wish that was implemented earlier. I think its good to do more examples in class, maybe go over the homework, at least several problems, with the steps on how to figure them out. So I guess more examples covers that. Some classes had projects, maybe it provides an opportunity to understand the material better.

I honestly don't think this class should be a once a week for 3 hours course. To make things easier, i believe it would be better if they made this class twice a week. all that info is too much to grasp in one days time and makes it EXTREMELY difficult to learn these materials.
