12. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I like the fact that she, Prof. Isaki made us think critically, however, I thought while going through the analysis for the literatures that were provided in her class, it was up to us to critically think and analyzed it from our own perspective and form our own themes just as long as it pertained to WOMEN's ISSUES per se like being degraded and underestimated in a patriarchal post colonial era. It feels like she, Prof. Isaki didn't clarify that well in the syllabus. I also haven't had problems with my other professors when it came to grammar and the way I structured my writings, however knowing that she is also an English professor, I should have thought otherwise, but still it was a Women Studies course. All the issues I talked about in my writing were also within the same context with the other students, it was basically like we were all looking at one topic from the same perspectives. So I'm a little confused on that one too.
I like that I have had the opportunity to read different works of literature and learn the ways to analyze them for meanings related to gender, sexuality, and colonialism.
Reading materials were superb.
I liked the fact that this professor knew her material very well

14. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Clarification is a must. Prof. Isaki should revised her syllabus and state that upon critical thinking/analysis, consider structuring your essays in a format that it consider post-colonial era in a patriarchal society from women's perspectives...
In the beginning of the class, if the instructor could discuss how to effectively write a paper and make it an open discussion between instructor and students. Learning to write these papers with the correct criteria creates a lot of pressure on the students, and though this course is not meant to be easy is does not have come off a intimidating and non-helpful.
This class allowed me to think critically and use parts of my brain that had never been open to Colonialism and Apartheid!
15. Other comments:
I liked her class, good for future references when it comes to racism.
Sometimes the instructor comes off as stand-offish and intimidating. If the instructor came off as more open and understanding they could foster learning in a more welcoming manner. But I have no doubt that the instructor is very knowledgeable and very passionate about her field of study. I feel that if this class was taught in person the class atmosphere would be very different and easier to understand.

14. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
the material was amazing, I learned so much!
I like the facts that we learn about Hawaiian people. I like that we can redo our papers.
The information and reading material were extremely interesting and good to know. The video supplements that were provided in class was also very helpful in understanding the course content.
I loved the readings and the class discussions
Subject matter
I really enjoyed the lectures. They were very interesting and grasped my attention.
The texts and the use of different media.
I really liked the Professor's selection of articles that we were required to read througtout the semester because they were relevant to the current politics that people of a particular ethnicity in Hawaii face on a daily basis. Bianca is really intellegent and really into the course subject and as an art major that made it even more interesting and engaging for me.
Very edgy topics. Many of which I do not agree with but are inspiring in one way or another.
The class discussions were right on. It gave us all a critical view on the women of the pacific.
the teacher
This course helped me understand morwe about the Hawaiian culture and Hawaii's past.
Class discussions in a circle
Showing connections between topics and different aspects of issues.

n/a
The lecturer should be more organized. She should give more lecture instead of students giving presentation every class, which we do not learn much that way (It is not an Oral class). She should be more prepared when she gives the lecture, even the lecuter is only 5 to 10 minutes long. Importantly, she should not fall asleep when the guest speaker is talking and when students are presenting. She should be more helpful (when I email for help couple times, but sometimes she did not bother to rely). Overall, she should be more professional.
N/A. It was actually pretty well organized.
This class should be longer. It would help if the class was held on a tuesday or thursday, so that there could be more time for discussion
More seats available.
Student presentations were helpful, but a lot of the time, the discussion was not there either because a)students didn't do the reading or b) the group lacked discussion questions. All of the content covered in the course had the potential to have great discussion, but a lot of the time, it was lacking.
I wish the class were longer. Instead of a 50 minute class, I think it should be more like 1 hr 15 min or more.
It would be cool if we could read all of our classmate's essays on Laulima or something.
I think that everyone should take turns in saying a little on the matter in class discussion, just to spark up more conversations.
nothing needs to be improved.
Maybe this course shoudl be turned into a t/th or w/f course because in 50 mins it is hard to complete the discussions. Also maybe shorten the readings because a lot of themre really long.
Should also be classified as an Oral fulfillment course because the number of presentations we did for this class is relatively the same as the number of presentations I did for my actual Oral (focus) course.
No presentations every session! Or at least stressing to people that the presentation is not about summary but critical evaluation!! Maybe fewer presentations, but then with more background material.

10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked the fact that we were given options on our response essays and that our class discussions were very useful in aiding those papers. I also like the way she taught the course. She was a great lecturer and I was able to learn different things from her teaching style. It was one of the best women studies classes that I've taken at UH
The response essays helped to express my ideas without having to challenge other's opinions in class. They also helped me better understand the course material.
The many different articles that were read about the different topics. Watching movies were fun too as well as presentations by different students to get their feel to the material.
readings and subjects that related directly to hawaii and the pacific islands, just because it was easy to relate to and understand. i also liked the power points and the video clips as it was more interesting than just reading all the time.
Although the course did not get an Oral communications focus, I really enjoyed the presentations done in class. I liked the organization of the modules for the class. It was set up in a way that built upon each other and constantly kept you going back to previous material in order to analyze new material.
I liked that it was clearly stated what we were expected to do.
The setup of the class. Group discussions always seem to go over well. It is always nice to hear what other students have to say.
I liked a lot of the information that was presented.
Group presentations were helpful, especially in gaining different perspectives in class discussions.
I liked the videos and discussion time we had in class because i got to hear the ideas and opinions of my classmates and instructor
The discussions were great.
Student show and tell. Broke up the routine, made topic more interesting.
The global perspective and critical thinking really challenged me to read things from a different perspective. I appreciate all that I learned from this and will take these skills with me throughout my life.
I liked learning the feminist ways of seeing something.
Focuses on recent/up to date issues
able to share your own personal thoughts and views on subject

12. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think that this class overall was good, I just think that if anything were to be changed would be the amount of readings given in the course. Although most of the readings were generally good, I wasn't able to fully grasp all of the concepts because of my busy schedule.
The in class lectures could've been focused on more, instead of student presentations of articles. The lectures contained a lot of information but were gone over in a very fast manner, a lot of things could've been better understood if the lectures were gone over more.
I think there needs to be more group (small Groups) work. I think hearing what other people have to say but some are uncomfortable speaking in large groups. Should include show and tell I like the things people found outside of class to show us.
for the professor, clarity. seems as if there was something particular that you were looking for in answers, hard to understand specifically what you wanted from us. was confused at some of the course text, complicated to understand and sometimes even read.
I think before each paper is due, the professor could briefly explain what types of critical questions could be used in thinking about the paper. Sometimes the module readings would be a little confusing and a little guidance on what the papers could address would be helpful. Other than that, I think there is freedom for creativity in the papers and final presentations.
We did the same thing every day, it got very repetitive.
Maybe require students to submit their topic for their final projects a little earlier.
I thought the grading was a little unfair with essays and while we were able to think critically we still were made to think critically in a specific way rather then speak our own ideas. We needed to express specific points or it would be wrong. She was a confusing instructor.
N/A
There could have been more men in the class
More media involvement. Be more clear on what your little last minute assignments are. Mix up the format occasionally, it gets very boring!
Lighten the student presentations, more instructor lecture would be beneficial. Too much time was spent on Middle East, could have understood the same concepts in a sorter amount of time. This class was more women and politics than women and media. Understandable that these two courses would bleed into each other but would have liked to learn from more different medias as oppose to mostly political/imperialism articles.
Slow down a little when teaching. But overall this was a good class and Bianca knew what she was talking about.
involve more media
