13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
My experiwence with Profressor Mayer was incredibly positive with regards to my learning as well as understanding what I was being taught. The interest that Professor Mayer extended to me encouraged me to do Better and even want to learn more of mathmatics. I am for sure for REAL grateful to Professor Mayer for ALL of his time and efforts that he offered me through his skill of the courrse content. The strageties and techniques that he taught me are and will be... incredibly helpful as well as rewarding to me and for me in my continueing academic journey. I would like to say Mahalo to Professor Mayer !!!!!
He helped me alot when I was stuck and always a good teacher when it comes to mathematics.
he is like a counsler and can help with alot of math troubles even if someone is stupid, he will guid them though without making them feel like they are very "special".
He major strength is to make sure his students understand the math assignments and to help them pass the quizzes, test, and also the course
he think of ways to help his students do better
John Mayer's major strengths as a teacher are clear explanation, good teaching style, and put alot of time with individual student.
John helps you in every way possible!!!
He's patient, helpful, and knowledgeable
Sharp at math.
he encouraged us to do well and wanted us to pass the class. he made sure he was always available to help us. he even missed a doctors appt to attend class and help us finish the course. i highly recomment him to anybody who is struggling in pcm23.
John was a great teacher. He helped me alot even when i was stuck on a problem. I was able to email him and he would help me. He replied very quickly.
John's strengths as a teacher are his concern for his students, he is willing to help his students to the extra mile, and if a student doesn't completely understand the work he will assist till the student understands the material.
John is a people person and he always made me feel comfortable with any questions I had.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
0 (Zero) changes with his teaching style or strageties terchniques.
None, everything ws great and and nothing went wrong.
He should check on the students quizzes and mention to not click on submit in the beginning of the school semester
i wish it was a actually class
I think John Mayer did really great and I don't suggest any changes.
maybe not have a lot of changes
None that I can't think of at the moment
Doing the math on the computer is ok but need more pre instructions on the different steps of math.
i have no suggestions for john mayer. I failed pcm23 last semester and I believe the only reason I passed this semester is due to him helping me and encouraging me to continue.
you cant change a great teacher.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
The time and efforts that he offered to me and other students was beyond what I expected. His interest in his teaching was truly evident by his interest of his student learning with understanding and efforts. Professor Mayer has been the MOST positive ingredient this aspect of my academic journey.
When time is running out, he will tell me that i have this many days left to finish this, and to finish that, which was real helpful.
by telling them over and over, what to do and when to do it and to stay on schedual.
He should concern about the students by looking over their quizzes and asking if they need help on things. also concern by saving money
he help us work problems out
John Mayer show concern for students by staying extra hours to help the students to finish up what they have to do. Also he work out the problem with individual student.
he understood and helped students around the class no matter what!
He made himself available to help outside of class.
always there for help.
instead of us submitting our quizzes and letting us fail by just a few percent he would constantly be online and let us email him with our quizes before we submitted and then he would email us back with our the problems we had to redo. that saved a lot of my time and i greatly appreciated it because i needed that to continue or else i would still be stuck on module 4.
He encourage me to do my work and he helped me plan out the rest of the semester because i was behind on my work. He mapped it out for me, not many teachers are willing to that for you. He was'nt just helping me but ALL of his other students as well.
John would email his students about their progress and ask if anyone needed extra help on any module. He would also make himself available on his own time.
John was willing to help the students whenever possible, he was always there for us.

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I would like to say Big Mahalo Professor Mayer !!! Mahalo... Mahalo .... Mahalo !!!!!
Always helpful and showed alot of conern for me when i was behind and needed a lot of wotk to be done.
to bad he is leaving the school, cause he really needs to take over who ever is in "head math" department because john understand that students already dont want to be in that class as it is, so he tries the best he can for the students sake and mabe lets the student change the materal presented to where the student can understand it better. Unlike most math teachers at KCC which just tell you you have to do all the work even know you might not understand it or so.
nothing else because he is a good teacher
John Mayer does only do his job but he do it with willing and caring and that's what student want to see in teachers.
thank you for letting me understand math
He's AWESOME
He even made his self accessible on the internet for questions.
If it wasnt for him, i dont think i would be able to finish the course. He helped me a lot and i am very thankful for that. He taught me so many things this semester.
I am really glad he was my teacher and I really hope he continues to teach.
John knows his math and he explain and show the answer to a question where you would get it.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is willing to help students in need in a 50 min. time period, he gives us a study guide in preparation of the midterm (and possibly the final), his assignments, quizzes, and tests are all online, and his class is set at your own pace. Finally, he is a great teacher although his class can get monotonous...
he helps people who need it
He knows the material and is able to help students with any problems they have about the material.
He's very helpful and will do nearly anything to help his students finish the course with at least a B or higher.
everything
whenever we need help with a problem that we didnt get he would help us and we got it
he gives grades back PROMPLY and responds to e-mails FAST. He helps you whenever you need, and as much as you need. He is dedicated to his students! The other teachers and helpers really help you if you have questions. He understodd course material.
hes nice
Always willing to answer questions and is knowledgeable
he was there to help students out when they needed him.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Since class is only 50 min., he has enough time to do a short lecture on any of the modules but he doesn't do that. Instead, he comes to class, sits down, turn on the computer, gets up, passes around the sign-in sheet, sits back down, and he spends his time on the computer for the remainder of the class period when he's not helping the students.
nothing
Don't have the mandatory hour of our own time to come into the math lab. Some of us don't have the time.
None! He's great!
none
nothing
To be a little bit harder on students, making them take responsibility for their actions or lack of actions.
none
hire more aides. especially during end of semester...very difficult to get prompt help...wasted a lot of time in class/lab waiting for assistance.
give due dates to each lab works intead of free way style, unless they are done with the work before the due date they can keep on going.
none.
Nothing
None actually. I really enjoyed his class and his instruction.
none
Nothing.
Drop the online class. He knows his material and the computers and online lectures take away from his knowledge.
None.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He encourages us to complete a module in a certain amount of time because he doesn't want us to get left behind. Whenever a student raises their hand and ask for help, he comes to the rescue by giving the student a clear description of what he/she has to do to solve the problem.
he asks where we were
Whenever a student had a problem with their work or something concerning their grade he did his best to help them understand.
He would often check with them and always be around in case they needed help.
well
he helped us whenever we needed it
He always asked if we were doing okay, and where we stood on our chapters. He helps you in class when you raise your hand, he doesn't just leave you to figure it out like my previous teachers in high school did.
Always helped out when the students needed it, even when the student was responsible for their own results.
He understood and knew how to help us solve the problems.
always checked on our progress. always reminded us of our goals...and was pleasant in letting us know how to reach those goals.
idk
He was always there to help you if you had any problems.
helping whoever needed help
If someone needs help solving a problem, he immediately reports to them. He helps us out in a easy to understand manner so that we can actaully achieve our goals.
Giving fixed attention to those who needed it, and he explained the problems well.
He grades his tests really fast and gets back to you about your results and problem areas.
When I had trouble with My math lab he would respond to emails quickly and help me.
Helping out those that raised there hand or asked for help.
He would always ask students how far they were in their studies and if they needed to catch up.
walked around askin us questions
if a student had some trouble on a problem, he would sit down with that student and try to help them out as best as he can until the student knew how to do it.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
If you have a lot of time outside of class and you need to take Math 24 as a prerequisite, I suggest taking Mayer's class. If you want an A and you're a "fast-paced" learner, I suggest taking his class. Finally, if your the type who prefers independent study like myself, I suggest taking his class.

no
i don't like how its an online class because it didn't say that it was when i signed up for it. i think that having the student go in his or her own pace is ridiculous because it's easy to fall behind.
Thanks
I would like to see an option to take Math 24 in a normal classroom, without it being a self paced online class. This class did not work for me. I would gotten a lot more from it if I had been in a classroom and had an instructor teaching instead of a computer!
Thank you Mr. Mayer for a great semester!
more improvements on the internet, it kept on disconnecting and stuffs. i suggest to get a good internet like hikari in japan. i do not have that sort of money so i cannot afford it, but KCC you can cuz your the school and i know school has lots of money :p
This course was all online so there wasnt a lot of teacher student interaction.
nice guy
