18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Her style of teacher was very effective in getting the entire class engaged in discussions. Her openess with sensitivity was also a positive.
I like the discussions the best. I felt they were the most informative because you got everyone else's opinions, stories and thoughts on different subjects.
I liked how it was basically a discussion class.
I learned that gender violence is such a huge problem but it is well hidden from society. I think it is important to realize this and know what to do if you or a friend/family member are ever in a bad situation concerning gender violence.
It didnt feel like a class it felt more like people coming together to solve a problem
I really appreciated the relatable and socially informative topics discussed in class. I learned so much!
Having open discussions & the comfort level that was established right from the beginning of the semester.
The documentaries were amazing.
I LOVE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!

20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
The course materials were a little repetivive and the readings were sometimes a little much.
I would have liked a little less reading.other than that no complaints.
More guest speakers - if possible.
I think the content of this course is extemely important but I felt like some of the readings just repeated themselves and were so similar. So maybe less readings? Some of them were just so similar to one another...
I felt depressed some times for certain topics
Maybe less repetitative readings would help.
The room temperature can be fixed. Its really cold in webster. Other than that the class was SUPER GREAT!!!
Narrow the readings down because many of the readings about the same subject had the same statistics and ideas.
NOTHING AT ALL! THIS CLASS IS GREAT!!!! it should be mandated as a requirement for guys to graduate from UH! it is not really a "women studies" type of class, its more on society in general. great!

12. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked the guest speakers and videos.
The in-class discussions. I liked hearing the ideas of my fellow classmates and looking at various topics from a different perspective.
I really liked being able to spend the whole lesson discussing the chapters. I liked hearing other's points of view that was very enlightening. I also enjoyed the videos and guest speakers. They livened up the class and brought in new perspectives on the subjects.
I really like that the class was more of a discussion between the students. We were able to share our own opinions on the topics and hear the opinions of others. It is also helpful that we break up into smaller groups before going to a big group.
Discussion on reading, watching interesting movies
In-class videos pertaining to the course material, pair group discussions, guest speakers.
I like the discussion and hearing everyone else's opinions
The videos were enlightening. Was surprised and happy to see the teacher bring in an evaluator halfway through the semester. Showed that the teacher was willing to do a great deal to improve our learning experience in the classroom and as a student I greatly appreciate that effort. The class became more varied and I think it helped most of the students to learn more.
Class discussions. Discussing ideas and other points of view really expands the material. It's very helpful.

A warmer classroom! That classroom in BUSAD is freezing...
This course should be a graduation requirement. So much of this information is not known by the general public, I think that it's crucial information for all people to learn and that it is just as important if not more important than math 100.
I would like a lot hands on activities, maybe going on the board and writing or something that would relate to the topic or acting out scenarios.
More videos and current events
Taking out of class trips to events closely related to the course, guest speakers, class activities, power point presentations.
I don't think working in pairs all the time is necessary for good discussion, once in a while is ok, but not for every class. Group discussions can be very interesting.
A little more fluidity in the class discussions. A little more structure so there aren't so many long pauses with no discussion and/or off topic discussions.
15. Other comments:
Thank you!
Good class to take overall, I learned a lot about society by reading and discussing the fundamentals of American culture
I really liked this course. I learned a lot and my eyes were opened to a lot of different topics.

10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
We had some guest speakers to provide additional information about the theme of this course and also watched some films that were associated with this course. These two sources truly helped us to learn more about women's studies not only from this class but also from outside of the community.
I liked the class discussion time we got and the way classes were formatted. I liked how we had a reading due each day, and how that readings would serve as a jumping-off point for our class discussions that day. It was a great format because it focused our discussions, gave us something to discuss, and also gave us the freedom to bring up things we noticed, voice our opinions, or talk and ask questions about things we were confused about. Our class discussions were also a great forum to hear and learn from other peoples' opinions, experiences, and understanding of our readings.
The topics covered were salient and were in relation to me.
Discussions and getting to play the anti thesis roll.
I like we had guest speakers that related to the content and discussions of the course. I also enjoyed the course because, the instructor gave us a chance to speak aloud and share our thoughts and experiences.
I liked having the guest speakers come in. They gave further information on what we were reading about.
i learned about different perspectives my classmates had. And, i learned a lot about myself and others, having this class motivate me to critically think about societal issues.
I enjoyed the guest speakers allowing us, the students a new point of view on the reading or class discussion.
discussions for all to speak their opinon.
I liked being in class and discussing issues we read about
Class discussions were always interesting and fun to participate in, and I was really grateful to have such a safe and relaxed environment to express so many opinions about all the different issues. It was nice to be able to react honestly to the readings and know that no opinion would be attacked or ideas shot down. Thank you, Meiko!

12. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
No,I think this course has been good enough in terms of content and the materials.
The names and descriptions of the assignments on the syllabus could be improved because the names and descriptions of the assignments are very similar, which is confusing and can make it difficult for us to know which assignment we should actually be doing. The names and descriptions should be changed so that they are very different from each other so students know exactly which assignment they need to be doing. Also, the instructor waited a long, long time when students didn't know the answer to a question she asked or when we just didn't have anything to say. It would be more helpful if she didn't wait so long, especially when it's clear we don't know an answer, and would also help to move the class along and keep the discussion going.
Dunno.
I think this course could improve by having more lectures from the instructor instead of having so many readings to discuss. The readings very helpful and relevant to the course, but I think there should have been other types of assessments to the course
It seemed that every class we had a discussion, where the teacher would just sit there while the students had a discussion. So, i think classes should be more than just discussion everyday and have everyone interact and participate in class. Also, i think there's too much reading and should be lessened a little, so that students read the material more in-depth. But, overall, I think Ms. Arai is a very good teacher and motivated me to think about relevant issues.
Improvements could be made if the instructor were more proactive in her teaching technique. She needs to treat the students with equality no matter which gender they are.
n/a
I am unsure of how this course could be improved. This class was one of my favorite classes to attend. I loved the discussions and the students it was a comfortable class. The instructor made us really think about the issues at hand. I don't think it needs to be improved
I thought the structure of the course and the way class discussions moved were all excellently coordinated to getting everyone to understand and interpret the readings and issues.

10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The speakers brought in and documentaries watched helped enhance the knowledge we gained from the readings!
This course opened my eyes to the types of abuse that exists and how these types of abuse can be prevented. It's a very informative class that I recommend to all women's studies majors, as well as anyone else. I wish this course was mandatory for all men!
This course has broaden my awarness surrounding issues that affect women. Even though I am a women, many of the issues like date rape, discrimination against the LGBTI communities, and domestic abuse among younger people are more prevalent than I thought.
I love this class, it allows students to freely and comfortably share their opinion, critique, personal stories and debates. Although I am not a good speaker and I don't usually talk in class, I feel like I can talk a lot in this class, because no pressure to talk and no judgement being right or wrong, we just learn to hear and to share.
The videos were really intense and really moved me.
Class discussions were very insightful as to the diversity of POVs of the students.
I loved the openess and guest speakers. It seems as though you can really connect with the other students. It was nice to hear from a lot of different experiences and you really do learn when other students are teaching you. It was nice to have guest speakers. It is a nice change of pace in the classroom and I have to say my favorite part was the end presentation/project. It ends the class on a positive note which is nice!
while the subject material was often intense and occationally disturbing, it has helped me look at the world from a slightly different perspective. I really enjoyed the guest speakers that came into the class on various weeks.
discussion atmosphere of the classroom. Papers were really fun to do.
Class discussions. Although we covered rather sensitive issues, I believe that allowing students to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment is very important. Having students sit in a circle also helped to ease things a little bit...a lot less formal and intimidating.
I learned alot from this course, the material definitely opened my eyes to alot of different aspects.
videos
I really like how broad the readings are. It made me look at things differently in different situations.
The topics we discussed were very educational and helpful in life

Teacher should help guide the discussion at times. Most times the class experiences an awkward silence and it is very weird. You cannot expect everyone to talk all the time because some subjects are sensitive to others while not showing it.
The class time was just too short to go into depth on the topics.
More videos and guest speakers. Instead of the class being three times a week at 50 minutes a class, it should be twice a week at an hour and fifteen minutes because there is a lot to be discussed.
You probably can't do much about this, but it would be much better if more men attended courses like this. Their (men) opinion regarding women's issues is critical to making change and bringing awareness.
Perhaps not to pay more attention to much on absences or lateness? Perhaps could offer extra credit opportunity and have field trip?
Liked the class the way it is! Very comfortable atmosphere and instructor was very personable.
More direction from instructor.
longer class times, it often seemed like we were just getting started and then we would have to leave.
instructor being more commanding/influential, keeping the discussions going and avoiding awkward silences.
The only thing that I can think of is to have a set prerequisite in Women's Studies for the course. This might make it a little easier for students if they have a background in some of the theories/themes covered in intro. level women's studies courses.
