Research Interests

My research interests center on the physiological ecology and evolution of marine algae and seagrasses. In particular, I am interested in the physiological and cellular adaptations made by intertidal algae to features of tropical environments such as high irradiance and nutrient discharges via groundwater flow. These features are not typical to intertidal regions in temperate locations and suggest a different suite of adaptational responses by tropical algae to "intertidal life".My other interests include biogeography of algae and seagrasses across the Hawaiian archipelago, ecology of reef systems and the systematics of our local flora.
