Biology 425 (3sh) Wildlife and Plant Conservation

Focus: Principles of conservation biology; wildlife management techniques; examination of ethical, cultural, legal, political and socio-economic issues impinging on conservation policy and practice. Field project on endangered plant species requires population status assessment of plant species and interaction with biologists in resource management agencies, evaluation of endangered species recovery plans


Comments: Enrolls undergraduates from Geography, Botany, Biology, Zoology and Environmental Studies, as well as some graduate students from Geography, Botany and Zoology.


Zool. 690/Bot 690 (3 sh) Conservation Biology

Focus: Theories and concepts of ecology, evolution and genetics for conservation of biological diversity. Other topics include restoration ecology, resource management, laws, biological invasions


Comments: Serves interests of EECB graduate students, most of whom take the course at some point

 

Zoology 750 Topics in Conservation Biology
Professor Conant teaches this course approximately every other year. Topics have ranged from natural resource management planning to ecology, evolution and conservation of Hawaiian biota. Often team-taught with other EECB faculty (e.g., Hadfield, Morden, Wilcox)
