Paper Recycling

By practicing consistent recycling, the average office will find that the remaining trash is less than one quarter of what it was before recycling!

Procedures

Procedures for recycling are simple and depend largely on the initial separation for success. The major grades of recyclable papers that should be kept separately are:

* White paper

* Colored/mixed paper

* Newspaper

Sorting

Sort out the uncollectables and remove contaminants, and separate the rest with care; otherwise, it all will be classified as trash, without positive value. Staples are okay, but remove paper clips and clamps.

Uncollectables

Contaminants

* Envelopes

* Self-stick tape

* Magazines

* Yellow “stickies” notes

* Fax copies

* Photographs

* Shredded paper

* Carbon paper

* Paper sacks

* Self-stick labels (tear them off first)

Collection and Pick-up for Recycling

Recycling pickups at designated buildings will be made weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday. Colored/mixed paper will be picked up on Tuesday, and newspaper pickups will be on Wednesday of each week. See the locations of Paper Recycling Collection Stations on campus. Please contact Building & Grounds Management at 956-8686 for inquiries on obtaining office paper recycling stands/bags or regarding paper recycling collection stations.
