To be an effective language learner, it helps to have a clear idea of your language needs and your preferred learning styles. This activity uses two worksheets that help you to clarify these two things.

Step 1: Needs Analysis. Click here to download a "needs analysis" worksheet, and then print the worksheet and answer all the questions. Your answers will help you decide what aspects of academic listening and speaking are most challenging for you in English, as well as what areas you feel are your strengths. With this information you will be able to form goals for your learning (in Activity Two of this Section).

Step 2: Learning Styles. Click here to download a "learning styles " worksheet, and then print the worksheet and answer all the questions. These questions should help you to understand more about yourself and how you learn best. Whereas the "needs analysis" can help you to decide which self-access modules you want to study, this worksheet on "learning styles" can help you to decide how you want to work with the self-access activities. (Knowledge of your learning styles can help you to get the most out of your English classes, as well.)
