Library Essentials is a collection of 50-minute workshops for English 100 sections (including 100A, 101, and ELI 100) that introduce students to basic library services and resources, print and digital. The workshops are designed to help English instructors address the Written Communication (FW) "information literacy" requirement of their courses. The Library Essentials Program includes a menu of five workshops. Instructors can register their courses for a single workshop or a combination of several workshops.
Note to instructors: The handbook is intended to be an introduction to library research, exposing students to the concepts and skills necessary to find information using the appropriate tools. It is self-paced and intended to be a resource to which a student can turn for library research methods. Instructors may want to assign or recommend this handbook to students in class. Requires about eight hours to read and do the recommended workshop activities.
