Create your own "industry group" ratios for publicly-traded companies
Mergent Online (U.S. and international company data) includes financials for U.S. and international public corporations. You can use the database to create a customized reports showing the ratios for publicly traded companies in an industry, and the group averages for those companies.
Step-by-step instructions for creating your own custom lists using Mergent Online's classification criteria search.
Search the database with the classification criteria using NAICS codes, SIC codes, or Mergent Industry Codes (MIC) to help identify peer companies by industry.
Select the country or index to limit the search to a more defined group (when appropriate).
Create your "Company Analysis List" by adding all search results or selected companies.
Move your mouse to the "Expand" link near the "Company Analysis List" bar at the top right of the screen, and choose "Create Comparison Report."
With your new window, choose "Ratios" from the drop down menu in section 2. Select the desired Sub-Categories and years. Check the box toward the bottom to "Include average in heading." This will give you the peer group averages.
When your criteria are set, click the "Create Report" button.
The report will provide the selected ratios for the individual companies and "peer averages" in the header.
Note: These sets include only publicly-traded companies. For private company information, you will need to gather data (when available) using other sources. See the Company Information guide for private company resources.
