ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Digital Library
ACM Digital Library contains tables of contents of twenty Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) journals and more than 400 conference proceedings. Bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the full-text for articles published in ACM periodicals and proceedings since its founding in 1947 are available in the library together with selected works published by affiliated organizations.

 

Academic Search Premier
Multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 4,650 serials, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 8,200 journals.

 

Alt-PressWatch
Alt PressWatch is a full text database comprised of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press. Current coverage includes approximately 100 titles going back to 1995.

Business Source Premier
Full text for more than 8,800 serials, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

 

Communication & Mass Media Complete
Communication and Mass Media Complete incorporates the content of CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association) and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Penn State) along with numerous other journals in communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study to create a research and reference resource of unprecedented scope and depth encompassing the breadth of the communication discipline. CMMC offers cover-to-cover (“core”) indexing and abstracts for more than 460 journals, and selected (“priority”) coverage of nearly 200 more, for a combined coverage of more than 660 titles. Furthermore, this database includes full text for 350 journals.

ERIC (via CSA)
The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) database is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related literature.

 

ERIC (via EBSCOHost)
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, is a national information system supported by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Library of Education, and the Office of Educational Research and Improvement. It provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1000 educational and education-related journals.

 

Ethnic NewsWatch Complete
Ethnic NewsWatch is a full-text general reference database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press -- English and Spanish language. The titles in Ethnic NewsWatch represent the diversity of the American population in ways that are generally not seen in the mainstream media.

LexisNexis Academic
Lexis-Nexis database of full text articles back more than 20 years from over 5600 publications. Use it to find general news; business and financial information including accounting, auditing and taxation; federal, state and international legal materials; medical and health information and general reference sources.

 

PsycINFO
PsycINFO provides citations and abstracts of international journal articles, chapters, books, technical reports and dissertations in psychology and related disciplines. Produced by the American Psychological Association it covers over 1,400 journals, representing professional and scientific literature from over 50 countries going back to 1872.

 

Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection
The Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection is a comprehensive database with nearly 480 full text titles covering topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.

 

ScienceDirect
ScienceDirect from Elsevier is an internet resource for scientific, technical and medical information. Using Science Direct you can access over 1,800 peer reviewed academic journals, search over 30 million abstracts from scientific articles and link out to articles from over 80 other publishers.

 

Social Sciences Citation Index
Social Sciences Citation Index is a multidisciplinary index, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the social sciences. It indexes more than 1,725 journals spanning 50 disciplines, as well as covering individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals. Online coverage from 1980 to present.

 

Sociological Abstracts
Sociological Abstracts is an index with abstracts to the literature of sociology from 2,700 journals and other serials, books, dissertations, and conference papers published worldwide. Coverage is from 1963 and includes all facets of sociology and related disciplines including anthropology, criminology, education, law and penology, race relations, social psychology and urban studies. Over 2,500 new records are added monthly. Access is through Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.

About the Communication collection


The UHM Library Communication collection emphasizes 20th century U.S., Asia, and the Pacific materials. The Library of Congress classification information on Communication/Mass Media is P87-P99. The UHM Library contains approximately 2000 books and 31 current serial subscriptions in this classification. Because of the cross-disciplinary nature of the field, communication resources can also be found in the Library under the classification for Telecommunication (TX5101-TX6720), Telecommunication Industry (HE7601-HE9755), Business Administration (HF5548.8-HF5549.5), Social Psychology (HM258), Oratory (PN4001-PN4355), and Journalism (PN4699-PN5650).
