The ERIC database, produced by the Education Resources Information Center of the US Department of Education, is the premier education database providing indexing of approximately 600 current education periodicals, including peer-reviewed journals, and hundreds of thousands of documents published by government agencies, schools of education, research centers, state education agencies, and other organizations.
The Library provides access to the ERIC database through three suppliers,
each of which offers its own unique search interface and features: CSA
(Cambridge Scientific Abstracts), EBSCOHOST, and US Department of Education (the
official ERIC web site). Whichever search interface you use, the database being
searched is the same, although the database at US Department of Education may be
slightly more current.
The ERIC Collection of nearly 500,000 educational documents in
microfiche format is housed in the Microforms Room on the first floor of
Hamilton Library. These documents, filed in sequence by their "ED" accession
numbers, are indexed and described in the ERIC
Database (see above). ED-number documents in the ERIC
Database that are not available in full-text online are usually available in the
Microforms Room
in Hamilton.
Academic Search Premier
Provides full text for more than 3,600 scholarly, peer-reviewed publications
covering social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering,
language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences, and ethnic
studies. ASP is especially useful for providing current coverage of some journals
that ERIC has not yet indexed.
ebrary
ebrary provides online access to more than 22,000 books in business & economics; career & general education; computers, engineering & applied sciences; humanities; science, medicine, & allied health; and social & behavioral sciences.
NOTE: You will need to download the free ebrary reader to access electronic books on ebrary.
EdResearch Online
EdResearch Online is a database of over 14 000 articles from more than 120
Australian education journals published since 2000. These records are from the
Australian Education Index. Full-text of articles is available for a
charge.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature:
peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic
publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and
other scholarly organizations (with access to full-text licensed by UH Manoa
library).
Hawaii Voyager Library Catalog
Index to locations of books, audiovisual media, theses & dissertations, journals,
and other materials in the UH campus libraries. Includes links to full-text when
available.
JSTOR
Provides full-text journal back files in various disciplines, including some
education journals.
LexisNexis Statistical
A searchable database of statistical tables from U.S. federal agencies, and
state, local, private, association, trade, and intergovernmental organizations.
Includes education statistics.
MAS Ultra - School Edition
Popular high school magazines and more.
Middle Search Plus
Popular middle school magazines and more.
Primary Search
Popular elementary school magazines and more.
Professional Development Collection
Provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 450 full text journals,
designed for professional educators and trainers.

administrator trade journals to assist professional educators.
ABI/Inform Global
ABI/INFORM Global can be used to find research on advertising, marketing,
economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more.
Business Source Premier
This database provides full text for more than 1,100 scholarly, peer-reviewed
business journals covering management, economics, finance, accounting,
international business and much more.
Hawaii Voyager Library Catalog
Searchable catalog of books, sound and visual recordings, and other materials
held by libraries in the University of Hawaii system. Features online holds and
renewals.
ebrary
ebrary provides online access to more than 22,000 books in business & economics; career & general education; computers, engineering & applied sciences; humanities; science, medicine, & allied health; and social & behavioral sciences.
Google Book Search
Search the full-text of books indexed by Google. View complete full-text of
books in the public domain and small sections of full-text from books under
copyright.
Novelist
NoveList is a fiction database that provides subject heading access, reviews,
annotations, and much more for over 120,000 fiction titles. It also includes
other content of interest to fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, Book
Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Feature Articles. For school media specialists
and teachers there are Standards-Based Thematic Units and Picture Book
Extenders, as well as specific teaching guides for using fiction in the
classroom.
Novelist K-8
NoveList K-8 allows you to discover the fiction titles that are popular with
young readers as well as titles to use in your classroom.
WorldCat (full version via OCLC FirstSearch)
A worldwide catalog of library catalogs. Use it to find books, web resources, and other
materials not available in the UH libraries.
Web of Science
A multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of all fields of study
that is especially useful for determining how articles have been cited by other
authors. Includes Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation
Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index.
Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest)
Dissertations & Theses (PQD&T), formerly ProQuest Digital Dissertations
database, includes bibliographic citations for the doctoral and master's work of
authors from more than 1,000 graduate schools and universities dating back to
1861. More than 750,000 dissertations and theses from 1997 on have been
digitized and are available for PDF download. Print copies of additional
dissertations and theses not yet digitized are available for purchase. Citations
for dissertations from 1980 forward include abstracts.

Child Care & Early Education Research Connections
Research Connections offers a comprehensive and easily searchable collection of
more than 10,000 resources from the many disciplines related to child care and
early education.
PsycARTICLES
A database of full-text articles from journals published by the American
Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the
Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber.
Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection
A database with approximately 500 full text titles covering topics such as
emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental
processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.
PsycINFO
Provides citations and abstracts of international journal articles, chapters,
books, technical reports and dissertations in psychology and related disciplines
with links to full-text. Produced by the American Psychological Association.
ACM Digital Library
Bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and the full-text for articles published in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) periodicals and proceedings since its founding in 1947 are available in the library together with selected works published by affiliated organizations.
Ed/ITLib - Education & Information Technology Library (AACE)
Indexing and full text of peer-reviewed and published international journal articles and
proceedings papers on the latest research, developments, and applications
related to all aspects of Educational Technology and E-Learning.
CSA Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts
Covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology,
morphology, syntax and semantics. Complete coverage is also given to various
fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative,
theoretical and geographical linguistics.
ScienceDirect
A resource for scientific, technical and medical information in over 1,800
peer-reviewed academic journals, including journals related to education and
teaching mathematics and science.
CSA Physical Education Index
Includes articles from peer-reviewed journals, report literature, conference
proceedings, trade magazines, patents, articles from the popular press, and many
other publications. Topics range from physical education curricula, to sports
medicine, to dance. Other coverage includes sport law, kinesiology, motor
learning, recreation, standardized fitness tests, sports equipment, business and
marketing, coaching and training, and sport sociology/psychology. Health
education and physical therapy are also covered.
Social Services Abstracts
Covers current research focused on social work, human services, social welfare,
social policy and community development.
Social Work Abstracts
Index to articles from social work and other related journals on topics such as
homelessness, AIDS, child and family welfare, aging, substance abuse,
legislation, community organization, and more.
Sociological Abstracts
Index with abstracts to the literature of sociology from journals and other
serials, books, dissertations, and conference papers published worldwide.
Includes all facets of sociology and related disciplines including anthropology,
criminology, education, law and penology, race relations, social psychology and
urban studies.
Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL)
Provides access to virtually all English language nursing journals, publications
from the American Nurses' Association and the National League of Nursing, and
primary journals from allied health disciplines.
PubMed MEDLINE
Access to over 11 million citations from MEDLINE and additional life science
journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and
other related resources. If the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) Library has
a subscription to the full-text site, logged in users will be able to view the
full-text.
Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest)
Dissertations & Theses indexes doctoral and master's work of authors from more
than 1,000 graduate schools and universities dating back to 1861. Full-text is
available from 1997 forward. Some dissertations include tests, scales, and
measurements as an appendix.
ETS Test Collection Database
Indexes over 20,000 standardized tests and other measurement devices from the
early 1900s to the present. These research instruments are available in
microfiche format in the Microforms Room at Hamilton Library.
Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HaPI)
Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides ready access to information on
measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists,
index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques,
vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences,
organizational behavior, and library and information science.
PsycINFO
Provides citations and abstracts of international journal articles, chapters,
books, technical reports and dissertations in psychology and related disciplines
with links to full-text. To find tests, scales, survey instruments, etc., add
the word "appended" to a keyword search, for example, "collaboration and
appended". This wording may find articles with tests, scales, surveys,
instruments, measures, or questionnaires appended to the article.
Vocational & Career Collection (select from the
EBSCOHOST menu of databases)
Designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools,
community colleges, trade institutions, and the general public, this collection
provides full text coverage for more than 350 trade and industry-related
periodicals.
