Note: The UHM Library subscribes to many journals in both paper and electronic formats. Use a database or index to locate articles. To find a specific journal title in electronic format, search the library's list of electronic journals. Use Hawaii Voyager to find paper (and some electronic) formats for specific journal titles. Academic Search Premier
Multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 4,650 serials, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 8,200 journals.

 

American Geographical Society Online Bibliography & Current Geographical Publications
Current Geographical Publications (CGP) has been a non-profit service to the scholarly community since it was initiated in 1938 by the American Geographical Society. Beginning in 2006, the format has been changed to include the tables of contents of current geographical journals. The journal titles listed below are links to PDF files of the current issue's contents. This section will be continuously updated as new issues are received..

 

Geobase
GEOBASE is a unique multidisciplinary database supplying bibliographic information and abstracts for human and physical geography, ecology, geology, oceanography, geomechanics and development studies. The database provides current coverage of over 1,700 journals and archival coverage of several thousand additional titles. GEOBASE contains over a million records from 1980, with 72,000 records added annually. Each GEOBASE record contains full bibliographic citation, indexing terms and codes and 99.5% of records contain abstracts.

GeoRef
he GeoRef database covers the geology of North America from 1785 to the present and the geology of the rest of the world from 1933 to the present. The database includes references to all publications of the U.S. Geological Survey. Masters' theses and doctoral dissertations from US and Canadian universities are also covered.

 

JSTOR Arts and Sciences I Collection
Provides full-text journal backfiles in various disciplines. The JSTOR project's primary goal is to build a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature. Selected journals in the following subject areas are available: African-American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance History, Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Sociology and Statistics.

 

Web of Science
A multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the sciences (Science Citation Index Expanded) as well as both the Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index. Approximately 70% of the records have author abstracts. Online coverage from 1980 to present.

Dissertations and Theses
Dissertations & Theses (PQD&T) includes bibliographic citations for the doctoral and master's work of authors from more than 1,000 graduate schools and universities dating back to 1861. More than 750,000 dissertations and theses from 1997 on have been digitized and are available for PDF download.

About the Geography Collection

 

The general collection includes approximately 28,000 books and 70 active periodical titles on both physical and human geography. Material can also be found in the Hawaiian/Pacific, Asia, Science/Technology, Government Documents and Map collections. University Archives currently houses the Hawaiian Sugar Planter's archives. The collection is also supported by Hawaii Institute of Geophysics Library, the Health Sciences Library, the East-West Center Research Information Services, and the Bishop Museum Library.
